A Missouri conservation agent was patrolling near the Bagnell Dam when he observed the suspect fishing in in a restricted area. >> How's it going? >> Oh, not too bad. How are you? >> Oh. I was hoping I'd blow it. >> Got a big fish or you hung up? >> I got a fish. Been waiting for this guy all day. >> Okay. >> Sorry about that. >> Wait. Now, that fish has got to be released. >> Yeah. Can you Can you take a picture real quick? >> Uh yeah. >> Would you like for me to? This is the biggest catfish I've caught. >> Are you ready? >> Yep. >> Smile. All right. >> Okay. This is the second day in a row we're running into you guys. >> Where'd you run into us yesterday? >> Oh, different different game wardens. Okay. Uh out on the uh in Jeff City. >> Oh. >> On the Missouri right there. >> You just have your permit on the phone and that's it? >> Yeah. Yeah, cuz I'm out of I'm out of state. >> Okay. What I'll do is I'll get your information. I'll pull you up on my phone. >> Okay. >> And your name? >> Brandon. >> Do you still live on the Mississippi? >> Yep. >> Okay. Uh Brandon, up here where you're fishing, >> Okay. >> this is a restricted fishing zone. You can't fish within 75 yd of the dam. >> Oh, okay. >> yellow line is, it comes down the bank, that's where your line, lure, everything stops. >> Oh, okay. >> Like if you were to be fishing on that line, see that big white sign on the far side? >> Yeah. >> That marks where the the zone is on the other side. You can cast straight toward that sign or downriver, but not up toward the dam. >> Okay. >> The only reason anybody should be up here at all is to get bait fish with a dip net or throw net. >> Okay. >> And what is going to happen? You are going to receive a ticket for fishing in a restricted fishing zone. >> Okay. >> I do have to assign you a court date, but you do not have to appear in court if you get it taken care of ahead of time. >> Okay. >> But if you don't get it taken care of, you need to make sure you show up for court. >> All right. >> What part of Wisconsin is Fremont? I'm assuming it's Fremont, maybe it's pronounced differently. >> You know, I'm not too sure. Cuz I I've only lived there for maybe 2 years now. I moved up there from Washington state. >> Okay. I know the like north part of the state, south, central? >> I I couldn't tell you. >> Let me just go over this with you briefly real quick. >> Okay. >> You'll notice I've handwritten three zeros in front of the ticket number. >> Okay. >> The court just recently changed their ticket numbering system, so you got to make sure you include those three zeros, otherwise that number can't be found in the system. >> Okay. >> This is the date, time, location of the incident. This is your personal information. This is the statute number and regulation number for fishing in a restricted fishing zone. I'm giving you a court date 9:00 in the morning on May 14th, 2025 at the Miller County Courthouse in Tuscumbia. >> Okay. >> As long as you get it taken care of ahead of time, either online, by mail, or by phone, then you don't have to worry about that court date. But if you don't get it taken care of, make sure you're in court on that day at that time, otherwise a warrant will be issued for your arrest. >> Okay. >> And you don't want that over a fishing violation. >> No. >> Okay. I need for you to sign by the X. It's not an admission of guilt, just saying you will get it taken care of by either pleading guilty or not guilty. >> This is your copy. >> Okay. >> And this is the instructions on how you can take care of it like I said, either online, by mail, or over the phone. Give it about 2 weeks, week and a half to 2 weeks before you try to do anything with it because I have to get it entered into our system and then delivered to the court and the court has to get it entered into their system. >> Okay. >> So like if you called them on Monday or Tuesday to ask them about it, they'll have no idea what you're talking about. But also make sure you don't forget about it. >> Where's the phone number for that? >> Should be a email address right there. That'll give you all the information you need. >> Okay. Cool. >> Okay. And do you have any questions at this time? >> How much is it? >> That I do not know. It's completely up to the judge. >> Oh, okay. >> We don't have anything to do with fine amounts or anything. >> Oh, okay. >> We don't see any of the money from it or anything. It all goes to the schools. >> Got you. All right. Well, I appreciate it. >> Okay. And like I said >> telling me cuz I mean I'm down here once a year for work and earlier today, I mean there was people all over this bank. Then I and everybody left so I just moved down here and I was just fishing so. >> Yeah, I understand. Main thing learn from it and make sure it doesn't happen again. Like I said, that yellow line, that's where everything stops. >> Okay. >> All right. >> Sounds good. >> Okay, be safe. >> Yep, you too. Appreciate it. >> In the end, the suspect was charged with fishing in a restricted zone. He pled guilty to the charge and was ordered to pay $247 in costs and fines.
