Miss, please step out of the car. Come on. Miss, please step out of the car. I'm going to do some testing with you to make sure you're good to drive. I'm asking you nicely, please step out of the car. Come on out. Miss, come out. Miss, come out. Christmas is usually for opening presents, [music] but this driver decided to open a whole bag of trouble in South Plainfield. It was barely 5:00 a.m. when officers spotted a vehicle swerving with broken taillights, looking like a disaster on wheels. What should have been a standard holiday traffic stop quickly turned into a heated standoff. Instead of a merry Christmas, the driver offered nothing but excuses [music] and a very suspicious scent of holiday spirits. Good morning. My name is Lieutenant Mark Bullock. My badge number is 1026. That's 1026. I stopped you for two reasons this morning. One, both your taillights were not on and not working while I was behind you. Furthermore, when you were heading down the street, you started swerving to the right. Is everything okay this morning? What's that? All right. Do you have your paperwork on you, miss? License, registration, insurance card, please? May I see it? Thank you. Is everything okay, miss? All right. Like I said, you were not only the taillights weren't working, like I said, it's also so you swerved a little bit. And while I'm standing here at this window, I do smell an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the interior of the vehicle. How many drinks would you say you had all together tonight? And how many was that be, ma'am? Do you know how many drinks you had tonight? All right. Do you have the registration and insurance as well? I'll take your license for now, thank you. Do you have your registration and insurance, miss? I know, but I need your registration and insurance. Thank you very much. Appreciate you trying to look for them in advance. Can you come out? I need to talk to you on the side of the road over here. I'd appreciate it. I just want to make sure you're okay to drive. I'm asking you to exit the vehicle because I'm lawfully allowed to do so, and I want to ensure that you're okay to drive. So, could you please come over here to the curb with me? Miss, please. I'm not I don't want to argue or Cuz I said so, huh? Let's go. Miss, please step out of the car. Come on. Miss, please step out of the car. I'm going to do some testing with you to make sure you're good to drive. I'm asking you nicely, please step out of the car. Miss, yes. We're not We're only looking into this motor vehicle thing. That's it. We're not interested in anything else, so we're clear. Sir, do you speak English? The officer was far too patient while dealing with this mess of a driver who clearly had a few too many holiday spirits. What a vile human being she turned out to be, suddenly pulling the I don't speak English card after she had been talking in English for 5 minutes straight. [music] She should have stayed at home instead of driving around drunk at 5:00 in the morning like a total hazard. Miss, please come out of the car. You got to come out of the car. Yes, you do. Well, then we're going to place you under arrest. Okay. >> We have translator. Translator. Okay. Tell him. Telephone number. Translator. You shouldn't come over here. I'm tired. That's okay. Yeah, I'm tired. Translate. Translator. What did she say? I'm tired. Um I don't want to leave my vehicle. I am like half a block away from my home. I'm fine. I'm just tired. All right. Well, tell her she's got to step out and and go over some testing to make sure she's okay. Otherwise, she's definitely going to be placed under arrest. Even with a translator on the phone, she [music] was still stuck in her own little world of denial and entitlement. She claimed she did nothing wrong, but her swerving told a completely different story to anyone with eyes. The officer's patience was wearing thin as she played these games. It was obvious that she wasn't going to make this easy for anyone involved, including the poor translator on the line. Cuz I have no choice. And the other thing is her house and her license is is Plainfield. That's a few miles back the other way. She's going away from her house. Okay, what was that? I am on I am on my way home. You can follow me if you want to home. I'm okay. I'm just tired from work. I didn't do anything wrong. Ask her then at least try this before we get anything goes crazy. See if she'll be willing while she's still seated in the car to stick her head out so I could give her an eye test. She's shaking her head no, I assume that's what she said. She said she's not doing it. Just tell her tell her one last time and I don't want this to go bad at all. Tell her she has to get out of the car otherwise she's going to be placed under arrest and I don't want to do that. So tell her she's got to get out or she's going to be placed under arrest. I mean this is her last chance. Okay, what did she say for that? I'm not forced to do that cuz I didn't do anything wrong. Okay, so she's not going to get out I guess. Okay. All right, tell her she's under arrest. Step out of the car, ma'am. You're under arrest. You're not cooperating with our with our investigation. You can't just be, you know, suspicious of everything especially a DUI and then drive off without any testing. The officers finally had enough of her stalling and decided [music] it was time for her to exit the vehicle one way or another. She went from acting tough to crying as soon as the reality of her situation finally hit her. Her audacity was truly impressive, especially when she brought up Jesus while being a total danger to society. If she really cared what Jesus thought, >> [music] >> she wouldn't risk the lives of others because she decided to drive drunk. Come on. Come on out. Miss, come out. Miss, come out. Miss, please come out. We don't want this to get physical. Please come out. Thank you very much. Come over here. Get over here. Yeah. Get against the car. >> [snorts] >> Yes, sir. Jesus please. Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ. Jailer, jailer, why me? Please. >> [gasps] >> Jesus, please. I know I'm guilty. All right, her keys are right here. Right here. I'm going to go grab her phone. Yeah. Jesus, please. Jailer, jailer, why me? Why you doing this? >> [laughter] >> In the end, she managed to turn a simple traffic stop into a [music] forceful felony arrest through intense stubbornness and bad acting. Her Christmas spirit was replaced by the cold reality of a jail cell because [music] she couldn't just follow basic instructions. She thought she was above the law because she was near her house, but the only place she was heading was the booking desk. It was a pathetic end to a very dangerous morning drive. The suspect was officially charged with resisting arrest, driving under the influence, obstructing justice, and driving [music] with busted tail lights. Her attempt to play the language barrier card failed miserably, [music] leaving her with a stack of legal problems to start the new year. If you think the officers handled this holiday headache correctly, or if [music] they should have moved faster, drop a comment below.
