Take this damn way right now. This is how y'all be being a [ __ ] [ __ ] Doors close. What do you mean? Doors close, you [ __ ] Close the damn door. Ma'am, you got to come this way and get on the bus or get on the train. Come here. Don't touch me. Put your hands behind your back. Tampa International Airport is usually a place for vacations and business trips, but on April 21st, 2024, it became [music] a stage for a very different kind of performance. Most people are worried about their gate numbers, but one visitor was more interested in diving into trash cans [music] and ignoring every rule in the book. It was a classic case of someone treating a major travel hub like their personal living room, proving that some folks think that no trespassing [music] signs are just friendly suggestions. I'm all right right now. Hey, ma'am. How you doing? >> Hello. You okay? Yes. All right. You can't be going through the trash cans here, all right? You don't have business here. You need to leave, okay? You know how to get over to the bus stop? You know how to get over to the bus stop? Huh? It's time to go, all right? Hey, if you don't have any business here, you need to leave, okay? So, what are you going to be after all of this? Okay. The officer practically begged her to head toward the bus stop, >> [music] >> but she just stared through him like he was made of glass. It was clear she had no business being there, >> [music] >> yet she chose to loiter like she owned the place. She was essentially a human glitch in a very busy travel system, ignoring every polite exit strategy offered. Just trying to talk to you. I can't I can't really hear you. What's up? I paid for that. Yeah, um We just checked in a spare, right? But there's nobody down there to leave the bag, so what what should we do? To leave the bag? Like to check it in? >> we checked it. Yeah, I paid to have it checked, but and I got my boarding passes and everything. Uh what time's your flight? 5:00. We need to get the rental car back before 1:00. 5:00 in the morning? I'll give you time to take care of it. Yeah, um you're probably just going to have to wait till the morning. Control 131, if you have uh one more that can come meet me over here at Sikorsky level three and Avenue A one start as well, please. While other passengers were just trying to check their bags for 5:00 a.m. flights, >> [music] >> this woman was wandering around like she was in a different dimension. The officer was officially done with the games and started calling for backup to level three. It is scary how many people like that are wandering around in our society today without any supervision. She was treating the airport like a buffet and the staff [music] was clearly not interested in serving her. What's going on? Hey. Need to come talk to me. You need to come You need to come talk to me. Where are you going? Ignore him. But he can't hear you. Nor did he want to. Who are you talking to? Stop holding the damn door. Ma'am, you need to come out here and talk to me. >> going to talk to you. Why not? >> I don't want to talk to you. I'm talking to you now. I'm trying to leave you the [ __ ] alone. I know, but I'm trying to figure out what your what your business is here at the airport. I'm just trying to help you out. Try to get you where you need to go. >> right now. I'm going to take this damn way right now. This is how y'all be being a [ __ ] [ __ ] Doors close. What do you mean? Doors close, you [ __ ] Close the damn door. Well, the door's not going to close because I need you to talk to me. I'm not coming out here to talk to your butch ass. Cuz you need you need to leave. You need to leave the airport. >> We stand our ground. We don't move. No, you have no business here at the airport and you need you need to leave. Okay, so the airport operations manager is going to come out here and he's going to issue you a trespassing warning, okay? What's your first name? You don't You don't know what your first name is? I set it down somewhere. >> [music] >> She tried to pull a disappearing act by holding the elevator door, but the officer wasn't falling for that tired trick. He kept it cool while she was proving that mental illness is everywhere, >> [music] >> even at the airport. She claimed she didn't want to talk, but her mouth was moving faster than a jet [music] engine. The officers realized she wasn't going to budge without a serious reality check from the department. Come on, we got to get out of here. I'm not doing that. You're not going to do that to me. Do what to you? I'm not going to do anything to hurt you. I just want need to get you somewhere where So we can get this alarm to stop, okay? I'm not going to touch you, but you need to leave the airport, you understand? Bring your backpack. Yeah, thank you. No, she's 20 called it. Very far from cooperative. Yeah. And she had a pair of scissors in her hand, so that's why Oh, yeah. She put them back in her backpack, but trying to get over towards the bus stop, but I don't even know if there's a bus running right now. She stopped you? No. When she does, it's not very pleasant, but that's all. Haven't haven't captured it yet. Might be able to get it on the bus or on the uh train. Oh, oh, oh. Control 131, go ahead. 131. Uh let them know that we're moving over towards to the uh standby. The officer tried to play social worker, >> [music] >> but she was busy listening to voices he couldn't hear. Interestingly, she was carrying a pair of scissors, which [music] turned this from a nuisance into a safety hazard real quick. The officers were trying to get her to the bus stop, >> [music] >> but she was acting like she was allergic to cooperation. It was a one-way ticket to a bad time. Ma'am, you got to come this way and get on the bus or get on the train. I don't know. She won't give me a name or anything. I told her she needs to leave, so I'm going to trespass her myself and then if she refuses to make any effort to leave, then she's going to go to jail. Yeah. Ma'am. Ma'am. Ma'am. Ma'am. Come here. Put your hands behind your back. Stop resisting. Now. Relax. Relax. Stop resisting. Drop the drink. Drop the drink. You got to stop tensing up. Stop tensing up. Relax. Got it. Control 121, take pictures. The second she felt a hand on her, the don't touch me routine started, >> [music] >> which is always funny coming from someone causing a scene. It's a recurring theme. The people who hate being touched the most >> [music] >> are the same ones putting themselves into situations that result in robust touching. It didn't have to go that way. All you had to do was just talk to us. I guess we have LTU searcher. Yeah, that's fine. Um We're going to get her out of here. >> Do any of you Yeah, do any of you guys have a car close by or I'm on red departures. All right, we'll go down to red departures. You mind getting her stuff? Yeah. I'm going to try to find out >> her shoes. Yeah. We're going to try to find ID. They should make those bright yellow, you know? >> [music] >> You said you're on departures, right? Uh yeah, I'm ready. I'm not even I'm not even sure if she's been here before. She looks familiar. Yeah, probably. After the arrest, while she was being escorted toward the [music] patrol car, the officer correctly pointed out that everything could have been solved with a simple conversation. All she had to do was talk like a normal person, >> [music] >> but she chose the hard way and ended up as a joke. Some people seem more comfortable creating chaos [music] than choosing common sense. Control 131, be advised we're located down to uh red departures. Got her wallet from her. I think I I took that lost and found for you. >> [laughter] >> Yeah. Um See if I can find some ID Is Andrew going to transport? She said her wallet is in there. Okay. Um probably. All right. Who do I Who's That's me, but two doesn't have a cage. Oh, okay. Are you okay to transport, Connor? The officers started the delightful task of digging through her backpack to find out who she actually was. She looked familiar to them, which usually means she's been a headache for the airport staff more than once in the past. >> [music] >> She needs the hospital more than anything right now, because taking her to jail just to let her out the next day does nothing. Hey, let them know that she's being uh trespassed and you're doing it. So, just to let you know, okay? You're being trespassed today. That's valid for 1 year. The only reason you could be here is if you're flying out. Okay? So, if you have official business, you can be here. But, you can't just come here to hang out or use the bathroom. Okay? Do you understand that? What? Do you understand that? I think she said, "I heard you." Yes or no? Yes or no? I don't I don't understand mumbling. Do you understand the trespass? Yes or no? I'm going to go on the other side on him. You don't have a seat here. I told her about her trespass. Good, I got you. Yep, I'll give it to you as soon as you go in. Keep your your your foot out. You got both shoes? This airport adventure ended exactly how everyone expected, with a ride in a cage and a ban from the terminal. >> [music] >> It's a sad reality of modern travel that security has to spend their time handling people who aren't even flying. Hopefully, she finds a way to get the help she clearly needs before she tries [music] to check in at another public building. The suspect was officially charged with trespassing [music] after refusing multiple orders to leave the airport property and ignoring a formal warning. >> [music] >> She also faced a charge of resisting an officer without violence due to her physical struggle and [music] tensing up during the handcuffing process. It's wild how many people treat public spaces like their own private playgrounds until the handcuffs [music] come out. Let us know your take in the comments. Should she have been sent to a hospital instead of a cell?
