Hi, I'm Lieutenant Candace Ols and welcome to What's on the Truck Tuesday. Today I want to share with you our newest tool in the toolbox and this is the Epoch blood analysis system. With grant funding, we're able to put Epoch machines on every rescue truck in Coral Springs and Parkland. This Epoch machine can check up to 25 different lab values, allowing us to check a metabolic panel, electrolytes, blood gases, and hematocrit. These test cards take only 90 microL of blood to give us all of the test results that we need. These are accredited lab results and they give us the ability to diagnose and treat diabetic emergencies, respiratory emergencies, smoke inhalations, sepsis, cardiac arrest, altered mental status, and even traumatic injuries. We're grateful for this opportunity to take our patient care to the next level and to strengthen our partnerships with our local hospitals for continuing care.
