Hello, Coral Springs families. I'm Chief Brad Mock. As the school year kicks off on August 11th, I want to wish all students and parents a safe and successful school year. The Coral Springs Police Department takes school safety very seriously, and we want to share a few reminders with you. Hi, I'm Sergeant Brian Wilkins with the traffic unit. Please remember, school zones are once again active and are 15 mph. Please watch for children crossing the street. Always yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk and stay alert, especially during arrival and dismissal times. I'm school resource officer Tim Burton. We want to remind parents to monitor their child's social media and the apps that they use. Please talk to your child about online safety and the dangers of sending or sharing inappropriate photos. I'm Detective Tom Fiola with the threat management unit. Posting or sharing online threats is no joke. These actions can have serious consequences for both students and their families and may result in jail time. If you see a threat, don't share it. Report it right away to police or the school. Lastly, I want to recognize our outstanding school resource officers, as well as our school guardians and campus monitors. They play one of the most important roles, that is protecting our children every day. We encourage you to learn who your school resource officer is at your child's school. As you can see, we have zero tolerance for school threats in Coral Springs. If you or your child ever sees a threat, do not share it. Report it immediately. On behalf of the men and women of the Coral Springs Police Department, we wish you a very safe and successful school year.
