On January 10th, a quiet neighborhood turned into a circus when a fight between sisters over a puppy turned out of control. Officers arrived to find a house divided and a suspect who literally could not stop screaming to save her life. What started as a family dispute over a dog's bathroom habits quickly escalated because nobody knew how to act like an adult. It [music] was a classic case of family ties turning into family knots and the police were stuck untying the mess. South Connect 0343 we hear yelling inside and arguing. HEY! HEY! THAT'S 344. >> [screaming] >> IT'S GRANNY. DON'T YELL AT ME. WHO WAS OUTSIDE? GET UP. I DON'T KNOW. GRANNY TOLD ME. YEAH. THIS IS NOT A JOKE. PUT ON THE CUFFS. PUT ON ME. PUT ON THE CUFFS. WHAT? PUT ON THE CUFFS. SHE RAN TOWARDS ME. DID SHE RUN AT YOU? I WAS JUST SITTING. SHE JUST PUT ON THE CUFFS. THEY'RE THE ONE WHO CAME OVER HERE TRYING TO FIGHT. THEY DO NOT LIVE HERE. SHE'S A GROWN LADY TALKING ABOUT SHE'S GOING TO PULL A GUN OUT ON ME. >> HOLD THERE, YOU. Why are you yelling? BECAUSE THEY CAME OVER HERE TRYING TO FIGHT. THEY CAME OVER HERE TRYING TO THEY DON'T EVEN LIVE HERE. OKAY. WHY ARE THEY DON'T EVEN LIVE HERE. WHY ARE YOU SCREAMING? Stop screaming. Where's your ID at? IT'S IN MY ROOM SOMEWHERE. OKAY, I'LL GET YOUR NAME. SHE OUT. SHE JUST THREW THAT [ __ ] DON'T YELL LIKE THIS, MA'AM. HEY! HEY! GET MY OTHER GET MY PARTNER. IS THERE A ROOM OVER THERE YOU CAN TALK TO? You're going to go that way? Can you grab MY PHONE? IT'S RIGHT THERE. I'm going to go talk where you so you don't yell back and forth. Is there a dog here? He's in the room. Which room? Is the dog loose in there? No. Is that your room right here? Yeah. Okay. Have a seat. Okay, what's your first name? Janaya. And who else lives here? Just my brother and my mom. And who is that lady you were fighting with? That's my cousin. She lives here. >> Blood cousin or a friend? >> Blood cousin. They all pulled up talking about they wanted to fight. Who's they all? >> Her, her sister, and her mom. And her mom threatened to pull out a gun on me. Her, her sister, so your other cousin? Mhm. And my TT, my auntie. Did you see a gun? No, but she carries it. What did she say about the gun? Because my mom No, what what exactly did she say about the gun? >> She was on the phone with my mom and she said that I would put my gun I would put my gun out on her. Janaya was absolutely losing it, screaming about how people who don't live there were trying to fight her. She tried to sell a wild story about a gun being pulled, but her credibility was already sinking. The officers had to move her into a separate room just to get a word in edgewise. Usually, the longer the story, the bigger the lie and hers was a novel. >> All right, cuz the whole argument was about a dog. She like, "If you want the dog out, we could put it out cuz I'll put my gun out on her." That's what she said. On the dog? On me. Because me and my mom had a argument about the dog doing that. That was the whole problem. So, I had to leave the other day like 2 days ago from work cuz my mom called me. She's like, "The dog, she pooped all over the floor. This dog got to get out of my house." Oops. Okay. The only reason why I came home early is because I heard the dog like, you know how when you hit a dog and like it whines or whatever? >> Mhm. She said she kept saying, "I'm going to kill it. I'm going to kill this dog." That's what she was saying. When she got to the police >> what what made them come here? Yeah, just tell me. Just tell me in a couple sentences. Okay, well Cuz you know what, your story is very long. We don't have that much time. She started choking the dog >> Who did? My mom. Cuz she gets mad, she started choking the dog with the leash. I did not try to hit her. I tried to stop her. >> When choking, you mean just pulling the leash? >> No, like she was manhandling. The dog is like a puppy. She's like so little. She was manhandling it. It was It was like that. And what's your mom's name? Victoria Sanders. Victoria Sanders. Okay. How did this How did How did this Why did you charge towards your cousin? Because they were fighting me before y'all even got here. What I'm telling you, they came over here to fight. >> already had started by that point? How did the fight initiate? Because I was talking Okay, before they came over here, my cousin Listen, listen. Just tell me how the fight started. Like who hit who first, who pushed who first? My cousin hit me first. Where did she hit you? I came in here in the living room and I don't know where. She just hit me first and then we just started fighting. >> Like on your face, on your stomach, on your leg, where? My like in somewhere in this area. Okay. Janaya claimed her mom was manhandling the dog, which was a tough pill to swallow while she was busy being the loudest person in the room. Someone definitely needed to save that poor dog from those clowns as animal cruelty is never a joke. She kept spinning this narrative that everyone was against her, but her story was starting to feel like a low-budget soap opera. And then we just started fighting. And you said you were >> of like I was cursing or whatever. And you already said no, but just I'll I'll ask again. Do you want to be checked by paramedics? Just say yes or no. NO. JAMAL! WHAT? CAN YOU GO GET MY PHONE OUT THE KITCHEN? Like can you see if it's there cuz one of y'all probably took it or something. SEE, THERE'S NOBODY I'M JUST TALKING AND SHE SHUT THE [ __ ] UP TALKING TO ME. JAMAL! GO GET IT. AND AND IT DON'T STOP. She's 20 and she keep fighting me. This ain't the first time this happened and I keep tell calling the police telling y'all this. Well, she lives here. She got to stay here. That's what y'all keep on telling me. Yeah, so Because she lives here, we can't force her out. What you have to do if you want to You have to go through the eviction process through the courts. That's something we can't do. But if there's violence involved like physical She's physically Then you can Then you can get an order of protection, ma'am. Get an order of protection. But if she's not always telling the truth and she puts her hands on me. But I want to make a report against her. And then she just wants to tell them when I put my hands on her. And then she sits up there and laughs like I'm doing something to her. I be on the phone every time she start up. All right, well, let's not talk about it. That's Let's not start a whole 'nother argument. Like I said, if you want to evict it, you Now, what about the police report today? Let me Let me get to it. There is going to be one on file and then you're going to talk to my officer and see what you guys want to do from here. But for future, you got to go through the courts for eviction and get an order of protection. So, every day he sitting here and let her fight me is what you saying till they decide she she got to go. Yeah, cuz we can't force her out if she And she ain't And she ain't going to stop cuz when she start acting up and I say I'm going to call the police, she says, "Why? They ain't going to do nothing." That's exactly what she keep on saying. She lie. I don't even believe her half the While Janaya was busy ranting, the family gave a completely different version of the fight. Every person had a different version of who threw the first punch and the truth was buried under a mountain of sass and screaming. It's funny how everyone becomes a victim the second the body cam starts rolling. She called my mom on the phone, but she was in the wrong. She started walking out the room and they didn't just stand over there and then she just went at her into fight. They were trying to pull her uh her cuz then she started Yeah, fighting her. Okay, listen listen. Listen, who hit who first? She hit out of the room and hit me first and then She She says that you hit her first. >> I did not hit her first. I was STANDING IN HERE. YOU GOT TO GET the story straight. We just asked you. That's all. And nobody The phone dropped. I didn't hear nothing. That's why I just drove over. Any marks anywhere? SHE WAS SITTING THERE CURSING AND [ __ ] AND SHE HIT ME FIRST BECAUSE I WAS TALKING ON THE PHONE WITH MY GRANDMA. SHE LIKE, "WHO THE [ __ ] IS YOU TALKING TO?" THEN I JUST STOOD THERE AND SHE PUT HER HANDS ON ME FIRST. HER WHOLE INTENTION WAS TO COME OVER HERE TO FIGHT ME. You know I had to mark my face up. Don't talk. Just don't talk to her. You ain't getting along with her. She don't ever come OVER HERE NO OTHER DAY. THAT'S WHY SHE CAME OVER HERE TO FIGHT. I CAME TODAY CUZ IT WAS WEIRD. I'M TALKING ABOUT BRANDY. SHE DON'T EVER COME OVER HERE NO OTHER TIME. LISTEN, DON'T TALK TO HER. OVER HERE TO FIGHT ME. YOU GOT TO WHAT? LET ME TAKE a look at you. YOU WERE SAYING ON THE PHONE, "PULL UP THE CAR RECORDS." YOU LITERALLY SAID YOURSELF. DO YOU HAVE ANY MARKS on you anywhere? I'm going to shine a bright light. >> face. Close your eyes. Lift your chin up. LIKE THEY BOTH LITERALLY JUMPED AT OKAY, I SEE a small scratch. What? Yeah. Could you put it in the front? No, that's not how that goes. Some people I'm going to try some myself. Okay, well, you don't have that option right now. So, you can either put them on or we'll walk you out like that, okay? So, I can help you put them on. That's up to you. So, do you want to put them on or no? Yes or no? Okay. Well, The officers finally had enough of the screaming and decided it was time for Janaya to take a ride. She tried to negotiate where her handcuffs should go like she was at a fitting for a custom suit. She was literally making a bad situation 10 times worse for herself. Her hair was standing up like she had stuck her finger in a light socket matching the electric tension in the air. You want to grab these We're going to grab these Crocs. Put your Crocs on. Come on. We don't have time for those games. Walk out the door. Go. You're ridiculous. We'll get it for you. We have no issues with grabbing your phone. She kept crying about her phone in the kitchen as if her social media status was more important than her looming court date. She was trying to play the victim card until the very last second. Watching her struggle to get into the squad car was the perfect end to this circus. She finally realized that her one-person show was officially canceled by the Orange County Jail. Just relax. I get it, we hear it. You'll have a court date. Listen, you're going to have a court date. You'll tell You'll tell your side of the story, right? We'll tell your side of the story in court and the judge will decide, okay? And I got you now. So turn back around so he can adjust them. Relax, just relax. Just don't jerk around. That's that's all we're doing, okay? But you know I don't have anything. >> I don't know anything. I don't know you. I don't even have pockets. That They don't have nothing to do with if you don't have anything on. Like I'm not comfortable with you touching me. And that's fine. I'm a female at the end of the day. You don't have to be comfortable. I'm still not comfortable. Well, that's that's not your That's not your problem. Yeah, this is why you're in the predicament that you're in. Well, you don't know me like you said. >> need to know your child. You got a camera? Did you grab my phone? No, I did not. I'm not talking to you. In the end, Janiah's inability to keep her cool turned a family spat into a permanent record. She thought she could out-scream the law, but the only thing she accomplished was getting a front row seat in a police cruiser. The puppy was likely the only sane one left in that house after the smoke cleared. It was [music] a textbook example of how not to handle a police interaction. She was officially charged with domestic violence for the physical altercation and resisting an officer without violence after her dramatic floor routine. It was a wild night that could have been avoided if everyone had just focused on the dog instead of throwing hands. If you think the mom should have been arrested for how she treated that puppy, or if you think this family needs a serious intervention, hit that like button and let us know your thoughts in the comments.
