911. What is your emergency? >> If he comes into the room where you are, you do not have to talk to me. You brow 230. Bravo 365 signal 4. >> You don't have a coping away. >> Baby is out. >> Baby is out. Okay. >> 911. What is your emergency? >> 911 inside the center. >> Hello, my name is Shante Reed. I am a 911 emergency call taker and I've been with the city for 10 years now and I absolutely enjoy what I do. So, I did see on episode one with Lou that you guys were getting on him about the handheld. [Music] We do have headsets as well which we use on the daily. 911. What's your emergency? >> Yes. My next door neighbor just knocked on my door. She needs the ambulance. She's having an issue with her stomach. >> Okay. What's the address? Okay. Your unit as well. >> I I have her in my unit right now seated. >> Okay. And how old is she? >> 82. >> 82. >> Okay. And is that was that her answering you in the background? >> Yes. Yes, that's her in the background. I've got her seated. >> Okay. Can you please ask her does she have any medical history we need to be aware of? >> Rescue 113 copy an illness call village sector 113 Al Lima 82y old female abdominal pain. Copy. >> Copy. >> Responding. >> Copy. Responding. Okay. All right. All right. And just let her know that we are on the way there. We are coming lights and sirens to her. >> Okay, you got it. >> All right. Take care. >> All right. Excellent. Thank you. >> All right. Bye-bye. >> Hi, my name is Melissa. I've been here for coming up on 20 years uh with the city of Coral Springs and in dispatch. I've been a supervisor now for nine years. Um, currently I'm working our fire channel which handles fire rescue for Coral Springs, Parkland, and Coconut Creek. Um, we are working supervisors. So, sometimes we will have supervisors handling radios. And currently I'm on Fire Channel. So, as soon as the call taker puts in the address for the call, it automatically gets routed to Fire Channel. if it's a medical or a fire rescue call. Um, we hit recommend and it'll pull the closest units for that call. And we have a thing where if the rescue is coming from out of zone, we start the engine as a closer unit to have lower response times and get people that are needing medical copy uh medical assistance faster. >> My name is Christina and I've been >> 9,000 Westview. Yeah, sorry for my interruption. That's Tango 30 from Traffic Thursdays. Some of you love him. You shouldn't. No, he's great. Um, okay. So, I'm Christina. I've been here for 9 and a half years. I am obviously a dispatcher, right? But I'm also a SWAT dispatcher, SWAT tactical dispatcher, and a communications training officer. So, part of what I do, not only work with SWAT, but I am hopefully training the future. and I've trained several employees that have come through our department, including several here right now. So, right now I'm on Coral Springs main channel and we got a few things going on. Tango 30 is running traffic. We have Tango 32 who's also running traffic. >> 911. What's your emergency? >> Hi, I'm calling uh we're an underground utility contractor and we have to call in like these tickets before you dig underground. So, pretty much uh the gas company told me to call 911 cuz we hit a gas line. >> Okay. And what's the address of where you all are? >> 4683 North University Drive. >> Okay. >> Coral Springs. >> Okay. And you said that it was a a gas leak. >> Yeah. So, we hit a 2-in gas main line. >> Okay. All right. We'll definitely get someone out there. And it's right in front of this location or >> it's in the back. So, it's like a shopping plaza. The number I gave you, the 4683 is for one of the shopping like stores, the units. >> And we're in the back. >> Engine 43. Engine 42. Platform 80. Rescue 42. Rescue 43. District 43. Copy. A gas leak. Gas leak. 4683 North University Drive. 4683 North University Drive. Sector 54D Delta. They're revising a mainline gas leak. It's going to be to the rear of this location. All units, switch over to TAC one. Tack one for the gas leak. >> Okay. All right. Thank you so much. On 1051, we have units on the way. >> So, anytime we get a call in Coral Springs that has more than three apparatuses, um, two engine rescue, three units on the call, uh, we switch them to attack channel so that they get their own dedicated dispatcher that will handle all the traffic. um usually structure fires, gas leaks, hazmats, anything like that. >> And that way that dispatcher will handle all requests. >> All right. So, right now I have a couple things going on and one of them is the police side of the gas leak. So, for us, it's to aid with FD fires response by blocking off traffic and starting to empty the plaza. So I we have units that are set up on all the entrances to the plaza to make sure we have no more incoming customers and then they can also get the people that are actually currently in the plaza out. >> Windfire is responding to a gas leak uh especially one where a construction company has hit a line. Our units will respond and we already have contacted Tiko while they're in route. Tico usually gives us about an hour ETA, sometimes less depending if they're in the area. as a main channel dispatcher, we send them to attack channel, so the attack channel's handling it, but I do monitor the attack channel to assist with any additional requests they need, any additional units. Um, they will set a perimeter around uh the area. And so this one's in the plaza. This happens to be like the Marshall's Plaza Wing University. We contact for Cole Spring. We contact Sunrise, the city of Sunrise, for their hazmat units to respond. So they're starting hazmat at this time >> and they go ahead and we patch the channels at the BSO uh mutual a channel and our channel so that the units can all communicate together. So in the city of Coral Springs we do have the five fire stations and then we have the three in Parkland. In Coral Springs they have each an engine and a rescue. When it comes to Parkland station 42 and station 109 both have an engine and rescue. 97 is just a rescue station. They do house the tender though that will assist with um any areas uh that need water and they don't have easy access to the water. We do have some areas in parkland like the ranches that don't have easy access for hydrants. Um the tender will respond to all fire calls there to assist with putting out fires quickly if they don't have um access to hydrants. >> So now we're actually getting a suicide threat call. So you guys hang out with me. My mom just was trying to kill herself. >> Okay. And what address is mom at? >> Okay. And how old is mom? >> 61. >> Okay. And what do you mean she tried to kill herself? What did she do? >> She hurt me n she know. >> Did she cut herself already? >> No, she's threatening to herself. She's serious. She's serious. >> Okay, we're definitely getting someone out there. Does she still have knives in her hands? >> Huh? >> Does she still have a knife in her hands? >> Yes. Are you Oh, okay. >> Is it just the two of you there? >> Huh? >> Is it just the two of you there? >> Yes. >> Okay. We're definitely getting someone out there to you all. Okay. >> Call advising 65-year-old mother is threatening to cut herself with a knife. I'll get your 94. Go three. >> Where is she inside the house? the kitchen. >> She's in the kitchen. >> Hey, you missed that suicide threat call. Be advised, the mother does still have the knife currently in the kitchen. Delta 29 48 to that call. >> 10. Any other unit that clearing copy the 32 call? 34th, please. Third joint safety >> example. So right now while they're headed to this this suicide threat, my job is to one make sure I get them all the details they need. Make sure I'm delivering that information quickly and precisely, but also to check the history at that location to see if this has happened before to see if this woman or this person has a history of doing this and what the tendencies they usually use. So, does she usually use pills or are there other weapons in the home? Checking that history and checking things about the home helps to give my officers the best possible information they can get before they get there. >> 218 from the 1078. >> All right, I'm going to let you know when we have um actually one of our officers just pulled up on scene um and I'll let you know when they want you to come out. >> I hear sirens. Okay. But just at this time, just stay in the room and I'll let you know when to come out. >> So, right now, we have our first unit arrival, but he's waiting on a backup to get there. That way, they can go approach the home together so we can we keep they keep each other safe. >> And let me know if you hear anything at all that's unfamiliar inside. Okay. >> 441. >> 41. So, I just received a call of a suicide threat. Um, the caller's mother was threatening to um cut herself and she was still in the kitchen with the knife in her hand. Uh, the caller barricaded herself in her bedroom um to of course get safe away from her mom. Um, she answered all of my questions that I had for her. She was pretty calm. Um, and as the police arrived, then I stayed on the line with her until she was safe with the officer. So, in situations like this and a heightened call, um, it may seem like we're asking a lot of questions and the callers do become agitated. They get aggravated at times. Um, but it's only for the safety of course of our officers and um, that are arriving on the scene. Um, and also for the caller safety. Um the fact that she stepped away you know from her mom um into safety um that's huge as well. Bravo 34, Brava 13, 658 missing. >> Bravo 34. >> Call advising 6-year-old son missing for 15 minutes. He should be on a bicycle. Getting further. Good one. >> 30 copy. >> And units responding to the eight missing. Looking for light-skinned black biracial male. Should have curly dark brown hair. Lassie wearing a blue soccer jersey with the number seven on the back and blue shorts on a green and blue AMX bike. Lassie what? Okay. Tango 324. I put you on it. Okay. So, a couple things going on. So, right now, even though we sent them to another channel so they could talk amongst themselves, we have our missing person going on. It's a six-year-old who was on his bicycle. Mom kind of had track of him, lost track of him, and so now we're trying to help her locate. >> It's been about 15 minutes uh since she's last seen him now, but that time delay grows with, you know, as time passes. So, it's really important that we get units in that area trying to locate that child as soon as possible. We have about 10 units on the call as well as other resources that we're bringing in. The drone, blood hound, um even our K9 unit will be in route. So, a lot of different resources we can use >> and way back home. I just so >> Mom has given us some important details. She did say that he's used to riding in the area. He usually knows how to get home. However, he never usually goes this far away from home. So, we're just trying to help her track him down. >> She's given us a great description of him. She knows exactly what he's wearing, what kind of bike he's on, the color of his bike, the type of bike. So, hopefully we we find him pretty soon. >> Tango 32. He's at uh >> just let him know we found him. >> Child 32. >> Go ahead. S delta 30 requesting you send a picture of the child to him. >> You want me to put in my car and bring it back or wait >> or it's just a verified identity and then they take take it from there. >> All right. So, so our update child located which is great news, right? We are so happy about that. That's what we wanted. That's the result that we want the best possible possible result. And you know who found him? Tangle 32, Officer Dino from Traffic Thursdays. Of course, his head is too big. He's never gonna go down now, right? But thank thankfully we found him. He's in great condition and great health and he's perfectly fine. And now they're connecting him to his mom. >> 911. What's your emergency? >> Hi. Um, I have a 5-month-old difficult breathing. >> Okay. And what address are you all at? Okay. And you're an employee? >> Yes, I'm the practice manager. >> Okay. And she's he or she is 5 months. >> He's Yeah, he is a he. >> Okay. All righty. And um any other medical history we need to be aware of? >> No. >> Okay. >> They did give him a treatment. His oxygen was at 84 and then went they went up after the treatment to 91. >> Okay. All right. All right. And he is conscious at this time. >> Yeah, but he's still breathing after the treatment. >> Okay. >> Station 80. Copy. Trouble breathing call. Trouble breathing. Can be a 5-month-old having trouble breathing. Just be advised. They are working a gas leak on the north side of the road. >> All right. I have this and we are on the way. >> Okay. Thank you. >> You're welcome. >> Engine towards the assist reference to a kitten stuck in the engine. So yes, our fire department goes out there for cats and trees, kittens in the engines, ducks in the drains. They go out there and they assist with all animals. They also keep um oxygen on the trucks for dogs that are involved in fires. Our previous call that we had was a pediatric that was having trouble breathing, a 5-month-old. Our rescue is responding to assist with that medical call. Um, typically >> 71 route one >> copying route >> typically a trouble breathing would require an engine and rescue just to make sure that they have enough uh personnel to handle it in case the person does code. Um, but with this one, our rescue 80 has three medics on the truck. So, typically they will handle that on their own. Um sometimes the trucks that only have two medics on board will request the engine or we send the engine with them um to make sure that if there is a medical emergency or somebody does code having a trouble breathing that they have enough personnel to transport and handle the code. We handle most pediatrics will if they're a trauma alert or anything high medical they will be transferred to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale. Adult trauma alerts will go to Broward Health North um in Pompador Deerfield. One thing with um fire main dispatch is we are handling the three different cities. So right now I have the gas leak working in Coral Springs. I have an accident with injuries in Coconut Creek and then I also have other medical calls in uh FD calls that are handling all over the cities. So just keeping track of where my units are. Um making sure that I have enough units in both cities. Uh so I noticed that I was getting short on rescues in Coral Springs. So I moved um a rescue from the south up north to cut down on response time if I need to. rescue anyone. >> Two pro tips. Pro tip number one, if you call 911, don't hang up. Seriously, if you call, even if it's an accident, stay on the line. Don't hang up. Let us talk to you. Tell us it's an accident. That way, we can cancel the call and there's no issue. Cuz then if you hang up, we have to call you back and you're wondering why we're calling you, wondering what happened and trying to get your address. Then all of a sudden there's police at your house, you know? So to avoid that, just stay on the phone. The other tip is for everyone, anyone watching, try to always, always, always know where you are. Any time you're traveling on the road, on the highway, try to just keep a sense of your directions and where you're headed and where you last saw. I know it seems simple, but unfortunately, especially when we get shaken up, we have a tendency too, right? Where we forget things. But if you have that natural muscle memory and you remind yourself where am I checking where am I, what road am I on, where am I headed, you know, we make a conscious decision, it helps us that if if you know, hopefully not, but if something happens, we can help you to the best of our ability. We are always use resources of course, but the best resource is you. You're the caller. The best resource is you. >> So I hope you enjoyed episode two of 911 inside the center. If you want to come work with us, then you can go on over to coralpr.gov911 reccruitment.
