This is Officer Wisnet with the Coral Springs Police Department Traffic Unit and I'd like to thank you for joining us for our 99th episode of Traffic Thursdays. Have a happy new year and drive safe. Coral Springs five copy of 5900 block of Springs. Good morning. Yes, sir. >> I'm Officer Wiser at Coral Springs Police Department. Stop video recorded. The reason why I stopped you, man, is you're running up on that car. I mean, you are literally there. You couldn't fit a car in between your truck and the car in front of you because you're running up on them so hard. Is there any reason for why you're driving so aggressive this morning? >> Not really. I'm going to my wife to go give her some breakfast and then go to my doctor appointment. >> Gotcha. >> And then >> cuz I mean the speed limit's only 40 mph here, man. The guy's doing 40. >> I was going 39. >> 39. >> That's going 39. >> My My problem with you isn't your speed. My problem is the guy in front of you is doing the speed limit as well and you're running up on him, hitting the gas, blowing smoke all over the road with the truck. You got to slow down, man. Just take it easy. All right. Do you have your driver's license on you this morning? Thanks, sir. The truck is registered to you. >> My truck. >> Okay. All right. Let me check your license real quick. All right. Stop. This gentleman southbound. We're right around uh Coral Springs Drive and Lake View Drive. Um in the lefth hand lane doing the speed limit. Guy in the right hand lane next to me is doing speed limit. guy in the truck here. He's I see him come up on the right hand side. He's traveling in access of the speed limit to catch up to the vehicle in front of him and then he has to slam on the brakes and then he's speeding up. He's got a diesel truck so he's blowing black smoke all over the road hitting the gas running up on the back of that vehicle looking like he was trying to cut over in front of me and cut me off but he didn't have the space. But he was literally within a car length of the vehicle in front of him. If that car in front of him needed to slam on the brakes, it would have been very difficult for him in the 6,000lb truck to to stop before he would have rear ended the car. I mean, he was that close to him. So, I'm just going to check his license plate information. Check his driver's license. See what kind of history we got. He's had a couple of uh citations. Looks like previous suspension, which he's valid now. So, you're driving a single lane and a tent citation. Looks like the vehicle's been complained on as a reckless driving vehicle in the past though as well, which makes sense. So, I'm going to be issuing him a citation today for following too closely. Usually don't get people driving crazy around a Mark patrol car. All right, sir. Here's your driver's license back. I had to issue a citation for following too closely. It's a moving violation. So, you do have four options. All the options are going to be in that moving or correction in that pink uh mailer that I gave you. Just read through that and we'll tell you how to take care of the next 30 days. Okay. All right. Drive safe. This guy is speeding up. Motor 5. Copy of 5900 block of springs. >> Hello, I'm officer West at Cor Springs Police Department. Stop signing video recorded. Reason why it stops traveling 55 miles an hour. It's only a 40 mph zone on on Coral Springs Drive here. Do you have your driver's license on you this morning? >> I actually forgot my wallet at home. Are you the registered owner of the car? >> My husband. >> All right. Do you have the registration with you? >> Um, yeah. I think you open the glove box from the the dashboard thing. >> Open glove box. >> There we go. >> All right. You have the same last name? >> Yes. >> Okay. What's your first name? Okay, perfect. Let me check your lights real quick. All right. We're heading southbound 900 block of springs. And the driver of this vehicle right here, this uh gray Tesla, was northbound right-hand lane uh catching up to the vehicle, eventually passing it, but she's doing 55 miles an hour. It's a 40 mph zone. And um so we did a U-turn and uh made a traffic stop here on her right up here at Springs and Lake View. So she does not have her driver's license on her cuz she left her wallet at home. So, we're going to check it here by name, date of birth, and see if we can get a picture for her. License is on file, and so is the picture. And that is definitely her license is good. So, I'm going to issue her a citation for failure to carry her driver's license on her. Give her a break on the speed. She doesn't have any history of any moving violations. Uh, she doesn't have any history of any violations with us. So, that's good. All right. All right, there's your registration bag. All right, I'm going to give you a break on the speed. Okay, that's a moving violation, $255 fine. So, what I did is I wrote you a citation for not carrying your driver's license on you. Okay, it's easy to take care of. The information is right here information back home because I realize my wallet. >> No points, nothing like that. So, just take care of 30 days. Just slow down. >> All right. The reason why I did that is you don't have any history. It doesn't look like you've gotten a ticket. At least with us, you haven't been stopped and gotten tickets. >> Like I'm like my heart is like racing [laughter] cuz I don't think >> All right. So, like I said, it's only 40 miles an hour. So, the fastest speed in the entire city is only 45 miles an hour. So, just keep it below that. Okay. All right. Drive safe. All right. >> You, too. >> So, the main difference between the laser and the radar, cuz we use both, is that the laser, it shoots out an actual infrared light. So, it's not visible to the human eye, >> but it shoots out an infrared light that goes down, hits the front of the vehicle, and then comes back to the unit and gives a speed based on the amount of time it takes the laser to go down, hit the car, and come back. >> So, it's just constantly giving that speed out. So, when you're looking through >> the laser, it's just like a like an optic on a on a rifle, for lack of a better term. You're just looking down through it. There's a little reticle in there. You put it on the car, pull the trigger, shoots the beam out, comes back, reads out of speed. So, like right now this vehicle's coming. So, it's telling me it's 45 miles an hour at 464 ft when I got them. So, this other vehicle's coming 58 at 591. So, when I'm using the laser, I'm looking down here. I'm saying, "Oh, this vehicle looks like it's traveling fast. I'm going to estimate a speed on it." Pull the trigger. It's going to tell me a speed. So with the radar that we have mounted in the vehicle or even the handheld radars, radar is sending out an actual wave. So it's going out, it's hitting multiple objects and it's coming back and giving you the speed uh that that objects are coming back at you, but it's giving a lot of different vehicles. Basically, anything it's picking up and coming back. So it'll tell you what the fastest vehicle is out of a group of vehicles. You just have to be able to discern which vehicle that is. But it's the same thing that we're doing with the laser. You're looking and estimating the speed of a vehicle. Um, so let's say, you know, this is a 45 mile hour zone. I'm looking down saying, uh, that looks like that vehicle is doing 60 mph. I'm just using the laser to confirm that. Freezing right here. 64 in the silver F-150. motor five. Copy. 50 104th Way and Atlantic. >> 104 in Atlantic. >> Hello. How are you? >> I'm officer whistle springs police department. So, it stopped audio and video recorded. And the reason why I stopped, she's doing 64 mph out here on uh Atlantic Boulevard. So, it's only a 45 mph zone. You have your driver's license on you? >> I do. >> All right. >> I just I was putting some eye drops in. >> Thank you. Is the uh truck registered to you? It is. All right. Do you still live over Margate? >> Yeah, I still live years. >> Gotcha. Let me check your license real quick. Okay. >> All right. All right. So, we're just doing some stationary enforcement down here on Atlantic Boulevard. [clears throat] And uh from time to time, we do get people exceeding the speed limit quite heavily in the area. So, like to get out here and do enforcement, try to slow some people down. This guy is doing uh 64. It's a 45. So, he's doing 19 over. Was in the right hand lane. Change lanes in the center lane to pass traffic. And once he got out front, he just opened it up. So, so that he was not paying attention cuz he's trying to put eye drops in his eyes. If you're putting eye drops in your eyes while you're driving, that probably not a good idea. Plus, you probably don't want to do 19 mph while you're also doing that. So, uh, he's been previously stopped in the 12300 block of West Atlantic by Lake View Drive. So, out by the Sawrass, uh, for speed as well in a work zone there. And it looks like he has a prior refusal to submit to a lawful test of breath urine or blood. So >> previous DUI [clears throat] >> license is currently valid. Um so we are going to be issuing him a citation for speed today. All right, sir. Here's your Sorry, I didn't mean to stall you. Uh here's your license back. I did issue a citation for the speed and it's a moving violation. So you do have four options and those options are going to be listed in this bank mailer I'm giving you with the citation. So just read through that and take care of it the next 30 days. Okay. >> Drive safe. Okay. >> Nope. Yeah, you're good. You're the register on the car, so you're good. Drive safe. Okay. Safety set. >> Motor 5. Copy 50 104 on block sample. >> Good morning. How you doing? >> Good. I'm officer W Cor Springs Police Department. Stops audio video recorded. reason why it stopped you traveling 66 miles an hour out here on uh Atlantic Boulevard. So, it's a 45 mph zone. Do you have your driver's license on you this morning? >> I do not. I left work to come grab a haircut. I left my wallet at the office. I have a picture of it now. >> Are you the registered owner of the car? Okay. Do you have the registration with you? >> Should. I just got a new one. Yesterday, actually. >> All right. Perfect. Gotcha. All right. Yeah, I can look it up on the computer as well. So, cool. Let me just check your record real quick. I'll be right back with you. All right. >> All right. So, doing stationary uh enforcement out on Atlantic Boulevard using the laser. Um saw this individual. He's coming up in the uh the left hand lane, the number one lane. Uh coming up on traffic doing uh 66 miles hour in a 45 mph zone. So, stop on here. Does not have his license on him either. >> Seems to be the theme of the day. >> All right. That is him. License is valid. >> Have >> been previously stopped and warmed by Tango 32 and one of our alpha units. We will be issuing a citation today. It's 21 milesPH over the speed limit which is cruising. So, so you just come over here to get his haircut. back. >> Needs to slow down next time. >> So, running late to things is not an excuse. >> All right. Here's your registration back. So, I only issue one citation. It's for the speed. Okay. It's a moving violation. So, you have four options. Those options are going to be in this pick mail. I'm giving you the citation. Just read through it and take care of it in 30 days. Just in the future, make sure you do carry your driver's license on you as well. Okay. All right, man. Drive safe. motor 5. Copy of 55,000 University. >> Hello, sir. >> How you doing, sir? >> Good. I'm officer whistle springs police department. Stop doing video recorded. Reason why I stopped you traveling 56 miles an hour. This is only a 40 mph zone on University Drive. Do you have your driver's license on you? Perfect. >> I'm so sorry. >> Is the uh truck registered to you? >> It is. All right. You still live off of uh >> No, I live right. >> Okay. Just make sure you update your driver's license when you get a chance. Uh just so the state knows, you know, where to send you stuff. So, let me just check your license real quick. >> So, I'm just doing a little stationary enforcement up here. 5000 University. Um, like I've talked about before with this being three lanes wide now for the construction, people can uh kind of get up to speed a lot easier. And the problem with that is it's only a 40 mph zone. So, um, we stopped this uh truck here. He's doing 56 miles an hour. And we're going to check his license here. >> Looks like he's been stopped one, two, three, three times. uh one ticket and two warning. He's doing 16 over. So, we'll be issuing him a citation today. Unfortunately, the two previous stops he had this year, I'm not sure exactly what those were for since they were verbal warnings. It doesn't clarify exactly what the stop was for. But either way, if you're getting stopped, you're doing something. So, citation today it is. All right, sir. Is your license back? I issue a citation for the speed. It's a moving violation, so you do have four options. All the options going to be listed in that pink mailer I gave you with the citation. Just read through that. It'll tell you how to take care of it. 30 days. All right. >> All right. >> All right. Drive safe. Okay. >> All right. Sorry about that. >> Yep. Hello. >> Hi, officer. >> I'm officer at Coral Springs Police Department. Stops audio video recorded. So, the reason why I stopped you is when you're northbound in the left hand lane, you got up to 58 miles an hour. It's only a 40 mph zone. >> All right. When you're in the left hand lane passing traffic there trying to go over >> Yeah, you definitely slowed down after that, but like I said, you got up to 58 there. >> I'm trying to get into this lane. I'm going to my appointment. >> Going to the doctor appointment. You still lived on. >> Okay. And the car is registered to you? >> Yes, that's correct. >> Okay, perfect. Let me just check your license real quick. Okay. Doing stationary enforcement here. 5,000 University. Um, red car here that we have stopped. She was in the left-hand lane. >> Uh, leading in that lane. She's coming around traffic. That was in the center lane. Uh, got up to 58 miles an hour. And uh, of course, once she saw me, she slowed down and then >> she said that she was trying to get all the way over across traffic to get into this medical complex for a doctor's appointment. So, >> that's why she was speeding around traffic was cuz she needed to get over. Usually, when you got >> a quarter of a mile to get into a turn lane, >> you No, I would think you'd want to get over there way before that, but >> not try to rush around traffic, but she's doing 18 miles an hour of the speed limit trying to get around traffic. cut and then cut across all those lanes to get [clears throat] over. So, we could just stop one time. >> She's doing 18 miles hour speed limit today. So, she is going to be getting a citation. >> All right, ma'am. >> Yes, ma'am. I issued a citation for the speed. It's a moving violation. So, you do have four options and the options are going to be listed in this pink mailer I'm giving you with the citation. Just read through it and it'll tell you how to take care of it the next 30 days. Okay? Just slow it down next time. I said it's 18 miles hour over the speed limit. So, you just got to slow down next time. Okay? All right. Yep. Well, you got to got to change lanes >> way before that, though. Like, you you can't be doing 18 miles an hour the speed limit trying to pass people just cuz you got to get over. Okay. All right. Drive safe. Okay. Move your vehicle out of the road. Motor five, copy of 50 9900 block of Ramblewood. >> Hello. >> Hi. How you doing? >> Good. I'm officer whist Coral Springs Police Department. The stops, audio, and video recorded. The reason why I'm stopping you is you're traveling 48 miles an hour. This is a 25 mph zone on Ramblewood Drive. >> 48 >> somewhere. Yeah, you're doing 48 miles an hour. Do you have your driver's license on you? Is there any reason for the speed today? >> No, I ain't noticed I was going 48. Gota >> I just got stopped and look. >> I was on my way right now to go do my tag cuz I didn't much know my tag was expired. I just came from the hospital with him. He had to go do some testing came from spring hospital. Now I was heading over here to the driving place so I can do my tag cuz I didn't. >> Well, this is a a common way to cut between University Drive and Coral Springs Drive. But yeah, the reason >> my first time going this way. I never been in this road. >> Got you. Well, the reason why it's 25 down through here is because the houses are literally right on the road. So that's why the speed limit is so low. >> Cuz I was just going by with my GPS. As I'm driving, I'm going with the GPS and we're not even paying attention. That's why I'm so like >> Gotcha. Are you still live in Margate? >> Yes. >> Okay. And the car's registered to you? Yeah, >> it is. All right. Let me check the license. I'll be right back with you. All right. >> We're just doing some uh moving radar on uh Bramblewood Drive here. Um, so that means, you know, we're utilizing the vehicle mounted radar while the vehicle is in motion. Um, I saw this black Nissan left-hand lane, uh, coming towards me. You can tell she's at a high rate of speed. Um, and, uh, she's doing 48 miles an hour on radar. This is a 25 mph zone. It's residential. I mean, the houses are literally right on the road. Um, this is a common road for people to cut in between University and Coral Springs Drive. I notice I'll stop a lot of people that have their GPS up and this is um and this is one of the roads that it tells them to cut through. Um however, they're not paying attention that the speed limit's only 25 miles an hour and said she's doing 48. And we get a lot of people that complain about the speeders through Rainbow Drive. That's why we're out here often. Uh, as you can tell, the resident over here is yelling thank you from his house. I I hardly ever am I out here where I'm doing traffic stops where uh pedestrians walking or neighbors that are, you know, out around their house, they come out and say, "Hey, thank you for being out here because they're just sick of the speed, which I would be too. I mean, 48 is almost double the speed limit." So, it's way, way, way too fast for >> All right, ma'am. Here's your license back. All right. Issue a citation for the speed. It's a moving violation. So, you have four options. The options are going to be in that pink mailer I gave you with the citation. If you read through that, I'll tell you how to take care of it in 30 days. Okay. >> Okay. >> All right. Drive safe. All right.
