my name is Brian Hobson and I'm a driver engineer with the Coral Springs Parkland fire department and I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer on November 30th [Music] 2020 during our life scan annual physical during the ultrasound they saw a lymph node that was uh inflamed slightly and I had to make an appointment with my primary doctor and we had it biopsied and it came back as thyroid cancer obviously when I got that news after the [Music] biopsy everything [Music] changed I never thought thought at 37 I would be told I had cancer immediately I called Chief Bader and I said what's the next step here I don't even know what to do we got together with um and and created a plan and within 15 16 days I was at um uh having surgery I have numbness in my face and my neck from the surgery from where uh the nerve endings got cut from when they did the surgery there's a lot of small side effects I get tired you know some of my thermal regulation is different everyday activities in the beginning were completely different it's been a very tough adjustment and almost 2 years later I'm still dealing with some ups and downs but I worked through it everything got cleared up so that's that was fantastic news obvious ly coming back was amazing it's great to be back on the truck with my friends and my family it's a great feeling being back here in this family and it might not be this way if I didn't do Life [Music] Scan the city took care of me very well I it was and an outpouring from fire Administration all the way up to you know the city manager the outpouring of support was amazing and it definitely helps you get through that process knowing you have that support and that backing of of all those individuals part of this journey is mental health you can go to some really dark places in your mind and you might not think you have somebody to assist you but we have those resources available with just a phone call and those are the things that when you add them all up together really make this a successful Journey [Music]
