Did you get kicked or burned? What's with your stomach? Who did this to you? >> And then he like banged my head into it and like I had a huge bump and everything. >> I know, but this is one of those things where the state takes very seriously and so do we. >> A girlfriend should never have to fear [music] the person she loves. But what happens when their men become the ones she needs protection from? And the only way out is a call to 911. >> He set up calls for me with two of his guns and he told me not to move. I asked him, "What are you going to do if I try to run out the door with what are you going to do? Shoot me?" And he's like, "If I have to." So, I don't know if that counts or not. He put the other hand over my mouth and held my nose shut and he dragged me from the living room into our bed. >> These were the moments when cops rescued girlfriends from highly toxic [music] boyfriends. We begin with the case of a woman who dragged herself to a stranger's home begging for help. And the condition she was in when deputies arrived made one thing immediately clear. She had just escaped [music] something terrible. >> You burned on your shoulders? And your head as well? Okay. >> Who did this to you? I'll call a paramedic. I've been beat up and burned. >> 2nd, 2024, deputies in Lafayette, Georgia responded after a woman appeared at a home begging for help. The victim, later identified as Amanda Cohen, could barely speak. But what little she told them was enough to point the investigation in a very specific [music] direction. >> Yes, ma'am. Can you roll your sleeves up a little bit for me? I know it hurts. >> The homeowner who found Amanda told deputies she knocked out of nowhere, desperate for someone to call for help. She was in rough shape, and the woman who answered the door couldn't understand how Amanda had even made it there. The officers still didn't have the full picture, but that was about to change. >> Where were you when you were assaulted? >> Uh I don't know what street it >> Where? >> I don't know the street name. >> Do you know where you're at right now? >> Mhm. >> You don't know where you're at right now? >> Yeah. >> Where do you Where are you right now? >> Right here. >> What's Do you have ID on you? I just not heard it. Nobody door opened. She was like, "Hey, can you you know, call a paramedic? I've been beat up and burned." My first assistant My first, you know, thought thought was somebody like threw out the car. Like beat her up and threw out the car. That's how she ended up here. >> Mhm. >> I didn't know she ended up like >> Wait. >> across town and somehow managed >> I don't know how she managed to walk over here. >> here. But yeah, I don't even know. I honestly don't even know uh >> Yeah, if you could just jot that little part down the about a close time whenever. Um All I need is just your name, your birthday, address, and a phone number. You don't need to fill out this statement. [music] I'll scribble this out. You can You can take it inside and fill it out. And that way you're able to sit down. I know it's going to be hard to write with him. Yeah. >> Okay, so just my name, address. >> Yep, and then just a telephone number. >> Okay. And then whatever >> Yep, yep, everything that you can from the time I guess she got here to whatever. And if she might have told you anything. >> Paramedics arrived and began treating Amanda while officers stayed close trying to gather whatever details she could manage. >> Did they punch you, baby? >> Did it happen this morning? Me and ambulances in small spaces don't get along. All right. Got it. >> Oh. >> I'll get out of you guys' way. >> Amanda had given them a name, her boyfriend, Jarvis. [music] Acting on that information, officers headed straight to his residence to see what he had to say. >> But uh you She run off like when it's time to go to work. I work nights. >> You were here. >> And I thought just take one around the >> Is that her stuff right there? >> Yeah, yeah, man. Cuz I'm I'm about tired of this dry crap. >> What? We'll cut it off her Let's go back here. >> Yeah, I need to cut this off. >> Does she have a room she stays in or >> Yeah, she Look, that's my girl. >> Okay, okay, she >> Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. What side of the thing is it? That's my side. This house big like like in the back where y'all saw in the back, you know, the tree limb fell and, you know, I had to put a tarp there, but All right. Sheetrock's done fell. >> Here, stay here. Just trying to get out of your way. Ooh. >> Hey, man, it ain't pretty good. >> Yeah, yeah. I ain't talking a lot more trash people when he's around. I ain't a good fighter. >> Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, but but so so what's going on with her? >> Well, hey, look, man, not not to to mess around with that. This is what we're going to do, okay? >> Yes, sir. >> Um and and let's let's run down to the PD so we can talk there and fill out some paperwork. You're not under arrest, nothing like that, right, man? It What's the Huh? Just so you can write write a statement, something like that. It's not the jail. It's We don't have a jail at our department, right? It's right here. It's You can go there, man, and we'll talk to you about some stuff so that we can sit down and talk talk, okay? >> Jarvis acted like he cared about Amanda, but when officers asked where she was, he had no answers. His story was already starting to fall apart. >> What kind of family emergency did you have? >> She didn't come back home. >> She ran off, man. >> You're not allowed in my house. >> I'm not coming in. She She ran. Like when I I tell the girl >> When When When did she run? >> She ran She I I text her phone. I called her phone. We talked on like uh on yesterday. >> Right. >> On day before yesterday. >> Was she staying with someone yesterday? >> Man, I don't know where she go. >> Okay. So, are all her clothes right there or is there like >> No, she had more. She had dresses and and this this four-bedroom house. She had clothes and everything. >> So, this is Saturday morning, right? So, you were calling her Friday night, Saturday morning? >> Thursday Thursday night, Friday. >> Okay, so that So, that's the night before. What You said but what was happening last night? >> I didn't go to work. >> Why? >> Because of Because of this. >> And you didn't keep trying to reach out to her or nothing like that? >> Man, no. >> Okay. All right, here here's the deal, man. You got your shoes and stuff. Grab your phone. We're going to go to the police department, okay? You got any weapons on you, buddy? I'm just going to pat you down before I put you in the car, okay? >> Uh patting me down for what? >> Make sure you ain't got no weapons. You ain't got no guns or anything on you, did you? >> No, sir. >> No, that's all I just want to make sure no one gets hurt or anything, okay? >> Why would you say that? >> Cuz I don't want no >> I haven't drank much. >> Yeah, you're good. >> If you drank I don't have anything. >> any weapons on you or anything? >> Man, I don't have any. >> If you do, that's cool. >> Jarvis's reaction didn't match the seriousness of the situation, so officers decided this wasn't a conversation they wanted to have on his front porch. After the talk in his house, Jarvis was brought in for questioning. >> What's in your front pocket, buddy? Go ahead and empty out your pockets. >> I was I was going to as soon as I could. >> Let's go ahead and empty out all your pockets for me. >> Sorry, I don't have anything. >> Hey. >> I don't have anything. >> Look, listen. You are making me super nervous right now, okay? >> I just got here. >> Just your demeanor, okay? >> I'm asking about my woman and y'all >> All right, so so here's the thing, okay? I'm going to be real straight with you, right? >> Yes, sir. >> What you're saying, right, as far as the events and then where we are, they they don't Some of that stuff don't make a lot of sense, okay? >> Don't reach in your pocket, all right? Keep being in touch with us, all right? >> I'm going to just empty out my pockets. >> listen to me, okay? >> Listen to me. >> Hey. >> Listen to >> Right? Right now, you're not under arrest, okay? But for you to go in their car, they got to pat you down, to sure you ain't got any or like that. Like I said, it's okay. That's all they're doing, man. >> Yeah, right, right. All I asked was can I turn that washer off when >> You already did. >> No, >> [music] >> I started it. >> You already did, man. >> I couldn't think of the letter for them. I said I couldn't think of it. >> The interview started casually when he last saw her, what their relationship was like. Jarvis talked about long work hours and not knowing where she went. But the detective was already picking up on things that didn't sit right. >> To the right right here. Just have a seat in the waiting room out there. >> Um So, what what All right. All right, my name is Nick. I'm one of the detectives. I don't know I looked at it What's your name again? >> J- Jarvis. >> Jarvis. >> Jarvis, okay. All right, man. Like I said, you're not under arrest, nothing like that. And we're just we don't even know that anything illegal has happened. All right, we're just trying to find out. You mind talking to me? Like just about what if you even know anything at all. >> The same thing I told you at the house is what I'm telling you now. >> All right. >> And that's all [clears throat] I know. >> All right. I work nights, you know. >> I sleep when I get off. >> All right. >> I'm off six days, seven days. >> Yeah. >> Well, it don't matter like six days, five four four hours or not. >> Yeah, as much as you can, probably. All right. >> I sleep and I get up at a certain time. >> Yeah. Um >> We've been having our ups and downs, but you know, she if she want to go, she she she she grown. She's a grown woman. She come and go. She like the house getting She don't have a house key, so she don't have one. And you know, she don't have to work. I mean, >> Did she work at all the time, man? Like you work at all the time, too? >> She's a little woman and I'm not from around here. >> All right. >> And just stay here. >> All right. >> Like somebody at home. >> Yeah, yeah. >> No no, like like uh, is the land, uh, land lot? What is it? >> Land lot? >> Like, right across the road. >> Oh, the housing authority? >> No, like, the other side, Linwood. >> Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. >> Yeah, I mean, it's like, it's kind of bad that way. My dog came up missing. >> Yeah. >> I made a report about it. >> According to Jarvis, he hadn't kept closer tabs on Amanda, but the detective wasn't fully buying it. But as Jarvis laid out his version of the missing days, that story was about to run straight into a timeline that didn't add up. >> So, when is the last time you saw Amanda? >> Wednesday, Thursday. Wednesday, Thursday. >> Did you see her yesterday at all? >> Uh, when I came home, I had, uh, Popeyes, and then I had Chinese. >> What, what day was that, what day was that? >> Uh, the days, my days are kind of mixed up cuz I'm on night, but, uh, I was calling, calling, calling. >> Mhm. >> No response, no response. She didn't look at the phone, and I I I >> Right. >> No, it it's on the phone. >> Okay. >> Yeah, yeah. >> No, you need to you give me my phone, I can show you. >> Like, when I stopped. >> Right. >> The signal went out. >> So, today's Saturday morning. >> All right. >> Saturday night. >> Wednesday, Wednesday night. >> So, it's Wednesday night, you think? >> Thursday night, one, yeah. >> Okay. And you told me over there, you didn't go to work last night. >> No, I didn't go to work. >> Why didn't you go to work last night? >> Cuz I was worried about my woman. >> Right. >> My woman got me, she cheating on me. >> Right. You know who she's cheating with? Do you know who it is? >> I don't know no one down there. As far as I know, it's work. >> Yeah. >> The city, in the store on top of the hill. >> Is there anybody that has like a beef against y'all now? >> I don't know no one down there. I don't know no one. >> Okay. >> No, I don't folks I know is work. >> Right. Okay. Um, does she have any friends around here that you know of, that you hear about? >> No, no. I don't know who she is. >> Is she right, is there she ever have like a friend that's a girl come over any of those? >> Uh, back in the past, like, like, uh, I don't know her name. I ain't like, I've been dealing with her like 14 years. >> Yeah. You Amanda? >> Yeah, and this girl like, let's say I don't know her name, like around 100 people, I'm drunk as a skunk and [clears throat] I went to work. >> Yeah. >> And, I'm like, "Be home at Be home at Be at Be at home when I get off work." >> Yeah. >> My girl wrong somewhere. I don't know. >> Yeah. >> I'm like, "Well, what's going on?" I'm We got into it. I'm in jail. I'm in the homeless >> Oh, she was in jail? >> No, she said I called her jail. >> Oh, okay. >> I mean >> So, you're calling her all that kind of stuff right out, but you hadn't seen her. >> No, like last time I saw her, like when I brought her chicken and Chinese. >> Jarvis had just tried to explain away the gaps in his story, but the detective wasn't letting up. The questions turned to the night before, and what Jarvis admitted next caught him completely off guard. Why was the phone still at your house? Hers? >> Yeah. >> And, she She get it when she want to. Like, she She when she was brushing her teeth, she'll do it. If she want to go to travel bag, she'll go. >> Yeah. >> That's her property. Don't tell her she can't can't go anywhere. >> Yeah. Is she And, this isn't to get her in a top trouble, right? Is she on any type of drugs or anything that you know of? Is she She drinking? Is she drinking? >> We drinking. I mean, she >> Yeah. I mean, I drink too. We're adults. You can drink, right? >> Like, we There's no >> Yeah, yeah. Were y'all drinking last night? >> No. No. No. Cuz I was going to work. >> Mhm. >> But, around like 7:00 8:00, I don't know when I told dude and I'm not going in. So, I I know better to go in cuz I was I was drunk as a skunk. >> Right. Like, I mean, like I said, it I could have lost I could have lost my job if I would >> would have been clocked in. >> Yeah. >> So, I know not to go in like that. >> Right. Had she been drinking Had she Are you drinking too? >> every day. >> Well, I'm saying, like, so you you said >> She drinking every day. >> Yeah. So, what I'm saying is that is like last night, 7:00 8:00, like, "Hey, man, I can't come in." Right? >> Right. >> You'd been drinking. >> Right. >> Like, just hanging out, right? >> I started drinking after I talked to him. >> After, okay. Did she start drinking then too? I never saw her man. That's the thing is that you know, someone somebody somebody's done something to her and I don't think it's you but I like I want to make sure whoever it is like you know, we can take care of her. Make sure it don't do this kind of stuff again. And I you feel the same way. Yeah, yeah and I'm asking him like what's going on what's going on and he He ain't saying nothing. I got you. So in any of the last times you said and I'm not I'm like has she been arguing a lot lately or anything with that lately or >> With who? >> Anybody. >> With you or the wall? >> I sleep. >> Yeah. >> I sleep. >> I got you. >> I spend time with her. I go sleep. Okay. >> [clears throat] >> I get up like 7:00. >> Right. So which one of these is yours? >> I heard this one be here. >> This one's the one that ain't broke. And so you said I can look at some of that you care if I look at the messages and stuff? I can go ahead? >> Okay. You got to be careful man. But look man I don't I don't I don't even want to talk no more man. Like I just want to see what's going on. Y'all can give me a little lawyer or whatever. >> Okay. There you go. I'm going to get them to run you back home, okay? I'm going to keep her phone and I'll get it back to her and stuff like that, okay? But cuz she she's in the hospital for a little bit. Like I said >> I don't What's wrong with her man? >> I don't to be honest with you man I I'm not a doctor I don't know. She she looked pretty rough so So we're going to talk to her tomorrow and stuff like that. Like I said just So we'll get you out of here man and I do appreciate you coming in here and talking to us at least giving us a light on the back. >> Upon further investigation officers were able to determine that Jarvis was the one responsible for what happened to Amanda. In the end 43-year-old Jarvis Jackson was convicted and sentenced to decades behind bars. Moving to the next case a girlfriend called the police after a fight spiraled out of control only to protect the man who [music] had just hurt her when officers arrived. >> like [ __ ] him in and doing all that and like >> Like to you? >> Yeah. >> Do you want the medics to check out your eyes? >> Did you have like anything to make it better or still like stinging? >> It was pepper spray in her eyes. I understand the emotion and stuff but bottom line is he did it to himself. >> We got into a little This is has happened. >> It doesn't sound uh >> This is not like >> In her eyes it wasn't little. >> On April 28th, 2024, officers in Ohio responded to a call that came in the early hours of the morning. A girlfriend had been attacked inside her own apartment, and by the time police arrived, she was standing outside with a story that would force the officers to make a choice she wasn't prepared for. >> Hi guys. What's going on? >> I don't Okay, well, I don't Can I like get out and talk to you? >> Absolutely. >> Okay, cool. >> Whatever you want to do. Watch your step here. >> Okay. >> Hello. >> I didn't see the other one. Um okay, well, I don't know. My mom's always like a big convo when stuff happens, but I don't Like I don't really know like what he's like going to do. Like we were in there and we got in like a really big fight and he was like He was yelling and doing all that and like >> Like to you? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> And then Yeah, I got pepper sprayed in my face. >> He pepper sprayed you? >> Well, I was He was trying to get my car and then I was trying to pepper spray him and then it blew in my face. >> [laughter] >> Okay. >> my first time using it. >> Fair enough. >> Yeah, learned my lesson. >> It got bad enough inside of you that you wanted to pepper spray him. >> When it was out here because I was trying to leave and then he was coming out at me and then I was like just like go away and he had took my phone ran inside and yeah, it was just >> He has your phone still? >> No, I Yeah, not yet. >> Sorry. >> I now have my phone, but >> Did you say he destroyed your car, too? Or his car? >> It was I mean, kind of. I'm not going to lie, I went and did his car in anger, too, but yeah, this is what he did to my car. >> What did you do to his? I have to ask. >> Just a little bit of key on the side. >> Which one's his? >> The blue green Acura. >> That one right That one right here? >> Yeah, I don't know if it's eventually >> Is that the key mark right there? >> Yes, it is. >> I mean >> That's the best news. I don't know if that's >> When was that after everything? >> It was Yeah, after and then I pepper sprayed my face. >> All that was after what happened inside? >> was after because he was like, "Get out. Get out." I was like, "I just want my phone. I want my purse. Like let me grab my glasses." My glasses are broke. I was like, "Okay, let me put the pepper spray in." Like just like I'm like drive home cuz I don't want I didn't think my mom would answer. I was trying to call her and nothing was happening and yeah, I'm not I I don't know what is going to be the outcome of all this. I don't want to get him in trouble or anything. >> The girlfriend had just finished walking officers through what happened inside that apartment. She admitted some things she wasn't proud of either, but the marks on her body were telling a story all on their own and the officers were about to make a decision she never saw coming. >> It was Oh, yeah, and then he like banged my head into it and like I had a huge bump and everything. >> Yeah. Yeah, good one over there. >> Oh. >> You got something that had busted open here on your >> Might be a pimple. >> Oh, I mean but there's blood there. So, something So, something caused this busted lip. >> things and just the whole nine yards. He was really really drunk. He was out from like 3:00 p.m. till literally just got home and I was up all night. Like >> What's the matter? >> We left. >> Do you want the medics to check out your eyes? >> Do they have like anything to make it better or is just like >> It was pepper spray in her eyes. >> Do you have any milk? >> Let's see. I don't have >> It's okay. I can go home and get some milk if you have it on you. >> Uh the subject is only requesting the medics if they can do something with the pepper spray in her eyes. If not, then she's just going to go home and deal with it. Something want to come up to camp? >> We have all these stuff >> We obviously have a few more things we need to do before you can leave. We'll get you out of here soon. Do you live local? >> Yeah, literally across the street. >> Oh, Laner Woods you said? Okay. >> Oh, I'm sorry. It's okay. >> Look, I was combining Chase and Laner Woods, so >> Well, everybody does, right? >> Over Laner Woods, got you. Um >> Yeah. >> So obviously we got to go in and talk to him real quick. But So, is he going to tell me that you him >> I mean >> Other than other than what you're claiming like I'm sure when he's holding you down doing certain >> Yes. >> Oh, sorry. >> Hello. >> She She sprayed pepper spray and it got a little bit of the back spray into her. >> time trying to >> So, just wanted anything that can help that sensation otherwise >> Yeah. Um >> You got any milk? >> Um >> Oh. Oh, is that them? >> Huh? >> I just want to make sure you're okay. >> She has a few marks which we're going to we're going to photograph and everything. Did you when he had his hands on your neck did you lose any consciousness or having difficulty breathing or anything? >> I was definitely having difficulty breathing. Yeah, I think that's like probably what the neighbors heard was like a very unpleasant kind of noise, but yeah. >> But you're not right now, right? >> Huh? >> You're not having difficulty breathing right now. >> No, I mean I was like hyperventilating after but that's all. >> Did you hit your head hard on anything? >> Yeah, he was like smashing my head into the No, not lose consciousness but like I had a huge bump and my head like was like hurting so bad that I was like trying to see but I also had to put my contacts in. >> The girlfriend had just told officers everything. The fight, the damage, the moment things got physical. She had been honest about her own actions, too. But what the officers told her next made it clear the decision was no longer hers. You and him are boyfriend girlfriend? >> We are, yeah. >> How long? >> Yeah, it's three months. >> A year in March. >> And you live together here? How long? >> Almost a month. >> All right, so It was a year in March but dating and you live in together about a month. Okay. So, obviously this is domestic violence. You're the victim on the report. We have required paperwork we have to do. Basically just a victim's rights packet and domestic violence packet. Normally we do it on scene, but since you're going to be going with your mom tonight we explained to her we're going to have her go ahead and head to the police department and he told her how to get there and one of the other officers is going to meet you guys on station and start that paperwork and then him and I are going to go address it with Diego. I know you said you don't want to get him in trouble, but State of Ohio requires us to make an arrest if we can determine a primary aggressor and based on what you he's going to go to jail for domestic violence, okay? I know you don't he calls harm to you with visible marks, that's why, okay? Well I and I understand the emotion and stuff, but the bottom line is he did it and he's so, okay? There's no fault of you. What's happening to him tonight I know, but this is one of those things where state takes very seriously and so do we, so I guess that's why. Absolutely, absolutely. And the fact that there's marks we have to have someone take pictures of you two to document the injuries. That's part of the packet we do. We we have to attach more or less full body pictures of face, hands, neck and any and then take specific pictures of each individual injury which would be couple marks that we can see, but we'll explain all that on station. Um like I said and in no fault of you he is getting arrested like I said and like it's nothing you did wrong, it's nothing that you were telling that you want him charged. It's I I told your mom even if you would have said even if you would have decided not to tell us what happened, we already told her, she told us. It won't change anything, he's still going to get arrested, okay? >> With her statement now on record, the officers went straight to the apartment to confront Diego. He answered the door groggy and confused and the story he was about to tell them would clash with everything the girlfriend had already said. >> And do you have an apartment key on you? >> Uh yeah, I do. >> Is it locked, do you think? >> Probably, yes. >> If he doesn't answer, you give us permission to open it up. >> I guess so, yeah. That sounds fine. >> Can we just keep the key and return it to you on stations? Would that work? >> mean I'm not going to be driving over >> That way we don't hold you up. >> You're going with mom, then we'll just bring it with us. >> Am I allowed to like That'd be a first. I >> He's not doing that, no. >> No. >> You don't want to be there. >> Okay. It's okay. >> Yeah. >> It's okay. >> All right. You guys want to head to the police department there? Someone will meet you there, and then we'll meet you back there, okay? >> Okay. >> All right. Does he have any weapons in there at all? >> No. >> No. >> Okay. >> That'd be great. Yeah, the one up in the back one on the >> Okay. >> All right. >> Diego. Diego. >> Hello. >> Come out here. It's police department. >> Oh. >> You all right? >> Yes, sir. >> What's up, man? >> What's up, bro? >> How are you? >> Good. How are you? >> Well, it's toasty in here. >> It is toasty. I was sleeping. I'm sorry about that. >> What? Is that glass? Watch where you're walking. It's glass. >> glass. >> Okay. >> I already wiped it, and I just decided to go to bed instead of cleaning it up. >> Okay. >> All right, man. >> Something happen with you and your girl? >> Yeah. >> You guys going to talk about it or you going to let it slide tonight? >> It'll work. >> All right, everyone. All right. >> Yeah, it's >> What happened? >> Um nothing really off the subject. I went out and with my friends, and she wasn't there, so we had a little conflict. Uh she was here all night, and I came home about 2 hours ago. And we had a conflict, and things didn't go our way. >> When you say you had a conflict, what does that mean? >> You see the house. >> I mean, is there more to it than just stuff being trashed? >> This is how I came home, but it's fine. I'm going to clean it up. There was nothing. We've had this happen before, but like not like here at my house. We used to live together, but I'm at my mom's house, but not over here. >> Anything physical? >> No, sir. >> Can Can you tell me how she got the marks on her? >> Sir, I promise on everything I love I would not This is my girlfriend. >> I understand that. >> This has happened before. We've had fights, but not like this. I went out with my friends, so obviously we weren't on the same page. I was I'm off this weekend. She's not. She has work tomorrow. >> I understand. I mean, she's obviously giving a different version. She has visible injuries to her neck. She had a spot on the underside of her face here. >> Officer, I I promise you on everything I love I would not touch her. This is the girl that I would marry. I love to death. This is not like Officer, I'm telling you. No. >> Do you have any injuries on you at all? >> No, sir. >> Any marks on your neck or face? >> She did have the pepper spray, and I did get sprayed on my back. >> Yeah, I know that. >> But it's all good. I just thought I'd go to bed and just sleep it off. >> Diego had just told officers the fight was just words, nothing physical, no force. But when they pressed him on the marks on his girlfriend's neck and face, his answers started circling without ever landing on an explanation that made sense. What about the cars? >> What about it? >> Her car and your car? Do you keep Do you keep her car? Do you keep your car? >> She She has done that plenty of times. Did you actually look at my car? You will literally see a bunch of scratches. >> I understand, but >> from her. >> Hers are new. >> Huh? >> Hers were new. >> Yeah. >> Did you keep her car tonight? >> Not tonight. >> Not tonight? There's still paint [clears throat] shavings on it. >> No. Are you talking about the hood? >> Yeah. >> Nowhere else. Just the hood. >> Just the hood? >> Just the hood, bit, >> Tonight? >> Not tonight. >> When when did that happen? >> Weeks ago. >> Okay. And what about yours? There's new ones on it? >> Is there? >> I mean, the ones on her car look new, too, so maybe I'm wrong about both of them. >> I don't know if there's any new >> Did you do this or she do all this? >> She did. >> So everything inside here she trashed? Okay. >> It wasn't even that bad, but then I looked and then I noticed the flowers I got her from a couple of days ago. >> Yeah. >> Yeah, it's uh I got my game set up and stuff, but nothing's nothing's like destroyed, bro. Like this is all going to be swept clean up tomorrow. We're looking brand new. >> If you had your best guess if you had to guess something that happened during all of this, what would have caused her injuries? >> Officer, I I >> But I'm only asking you to answer >> man, like I'm I would not do this to >> I would hope not, but like I said, she was very emotional telling us this stuff and her feelings obviously sound pretty sincere. >> Diego's story had been falling apart with every question. The officer had one final thing to tell him, and the words that followed sent everything spinning in a direction he never saw coming. >> Officer, I'm telling you right now I would not Like this is my girlfriend. This is the person that I've been with for years. Like we've had this happen, we've had altercations. We just got this apartment a few weeks ago. I'm not trying to get a victim >> not trying to get an apartment with her. >> Okay. >> Like this is what happened. A whole thing that I was just trying to sleep off. I thought it'd be good. I did not know you guys would come here. I did not know this was going to be a whole thing. I just tried to sleep it off. I just like keep peace going. Can you leave? And I don't know why >> And she was planning on it, and mom picked her up, and we got called here, and I guess in our dressing some of the things that we saw, and unfortunately she is claiming violence happened against her and has marks supporting it. And obviously I'll give you a chance if you want to fill out a statement or I can document what you told me on here. >> know what she like I know. Did she document or like is she like is this like a charge thing or something? >> So to clarify you are going to get arrested tonight man. You're going to be going to jail for domestic violence. >> Are you serious? >> She did not want to press charges. >> Officer >> But the state has to pick up the charges when a statement's made that has injuries supported. >> I did not do this. >> And I want to believe you but unfortunately I have to take tonight I have to take the side of what her story is with the injuries. So you are >> Well what injuries? So I did not see any >> She has like almost like a blister on what should be her right side of her neck, redness over here, spot here, some of her acne got busted open here. She claims that you put your hands around her throat, you had slammed her head on the ground, you had slapped her, several different things. >> Officer >> All leading up to >> not be telling the truth right now. >> I wouldn't lie to you about something like this man. I mean [snorts] I have no reason to lie to you. And If I could sit here and take your word for it I would but unfortunately state of Ohio requires us to make an arrest when a story given matches some of the evidence at hand which is the injuries are consistent with what she said. >> With the cuffs now on, Diego's shock turned to something quieter. He asked about his car, about what would happen next. The officer answered every question but one thing was already certain. He wasn't going back inside that apartment tonight. >> Do you want >> We can wait till the We're fine. We can wait till the bottom of the steps so you don't fall down the steps with the handcuffs on but after that I got to cuff you and walk you to my car, okay? I think so that's our policy. Nothing personal. >> I know sir. >> Put your palms together for me, okay? >> I didn't see that happen but >> Turn palms together like you're saying a prayer that way. There you go man. You're [music] fine. You've never been arrested before, right? So, you don't know what wear are. That's not a bad thing. Yeah. You good? You still okay? This one I got No, I mean, they aren't too tight? Yes. Okay, hold on. I'm going to lock them up here just to make sure that >> [music] >> they don't get any tighter for the transport cuz you've been sitting on them. All right. We're actually going to go right over here, just want to the right, okay? Do you want your phone? What's that? All right, I appreciate it. >> Look, you want to see if what my car has. >> Yeah, we can show you. I I assume those are new. Correct? Hey, come over here. Any more of these new or those old ones? Are those new or those I don't I'm asking, are they new? Okay. You want to charge them with coming or damaging? It's It's probably not going to happen tonight because of everything else going on, but but I can give her a ticket for it down the road, but I know. All right, let's walk over here, okay, man? He's going to Don't worry. He He's going to take pictures of it so we have it documented. I understand. I know. Listen, we're just going to do our due diligence and make sure everything's photographed and stuff. This is Okay. >> I don't want nothing for her to for the scratches. >> I got to reach over you and get the seat belt. >> Yeah, you're good. >> You good? I'll chain here. So, we're going to go out to the jail. I got to type up the charges out there and then I'll I'll serve you everything. >> name, sir? >> Mine? >> Yeah. >> Nick Barth. >> Nick Barth. >> Yeah. got it. Um Do you want do a written statement or you want me to document what you told me on my body cam? >> When does that come into play? >> I'll have you do it at the jail. Be before you go in the holding cell, have you fill out a statement if you want. And then I also I'm going to take pictures of you just to show that you don't have any injuries. You want to fill one or no? >> I don't want nothing to follow up. >> Okay. Okay. >> Okay. >> All right. >> I don't I So this is just >> me take photographs of you either or no? >> I don't have nothing on me. Officer, like we didn't I didn't >> I know. I'm going >> I'm okay. >> She does. That's what I'm saying. That's why her stuff's getting photographed. I just want to document if you have anything or if you don't have anything. It's up to you. >> That's fine. >> Okay. >> I shouldn't I don't feel I'm fine. >> All right. >> You can at the place anytime. >> You said I can? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> In the end, Diego was arrested and charged with domestic violence. Next up, we have the case of a woman who called 911 after a terrifying morning inside her own home. And when officers finally tracked down her fiance, the story he told them was nothing like hers. >> I ran to the kitchen once and I grabbed the knife off the counter. He he didn't point the gun at me, but he went like this. He put the other hand over my mouth and held my nose shut and he dragged me from the living room into our bed. He told me he was going to call the cops and tell them I pulled the pillow from under him. >> Do you know how many you have with you? >> Three or four. >> Are they pistols or >> They're technically considered pistols, but they're rifles. >> On January 30th, 2023, officers in Florida responded to a call from a woman who said she had been held against her will [music] inside her own house. By the time they arrived, the man responsible was already gone. But what the girlfriend described to them that morning was something no one should ever have to experience. >> Hello. Did you call? >> I called. >> Okay. Sorry. What's going on? >> Um I came home and my fiance woke me up about 5:00 this morning. Um he did some not very nice things, but that's okay. Um and then about 20-30 minutes later, he came back in the room and he pulled me out of bed and he made me sit on the couch and he sat across from me with two of his guns and he told me not to move. Um I got up and I tried to go out the back door once and he stopped me. I ran to the kitchen once and I grabbed the knife off the counter. >> Mhm. >> But he he didn't point the gun at me, but he went like this and told me to drop the knife, so I dropped the knife. And then I went back and he made I sat on the couch for probably, I don't know, it's been most of the morning. He didn't let me move. He had my phone and my car keys and my wallet and my credit cards hidden. >> Are you injured at all? >> No. >> Do you have any kind of marks on you at all? >> No. >> Okay. Do you have um an idea on it? >> I can I can grab it for you. >> You mind if I come in? >> Yes. >> Was that that knife like ever used or anything like that this morning? >> Um no, they were used for dinner last night. >> Okay. >> It was on the counter >> Was it clean or not? >> Um I mean it might We had tacos. We probably used it to cut like lettuce or something. >> Okay. >> Yeah, I don't know. Sorry. >> It's fine. Um I have my partner coming and we're going to I'll go over everything again. >> The girlfriend sat down with officers and began walking them through everything that happened from the moment she woke up. There was a lot to cover and every detail she shared only added more weight to what she was describing. >> Does he have any kind of um medical issues? Um >> Um he takes a lot of medications. >> For what? >> Um I know he has anxiety like I do. Um he takes different stuff than I do though. Um he has all kinds of weird stuff. He's some doctor he goes to in Port Orange gave him some like shots he's giving himself and like hormone pills and stuff. I don't know what it all is. >> Okay. Is he diagnosed with any kind of like any kind of mental disorder like bipolar, uh this schizophrenia, anything like that? >> Not that I'm aware of. >> Um depression or anything like that? >> Probably depression. He's threatened to kill himself a few times. He did that this morning before he left, too. >> He did do it? >> Yeah. >> How did he do that? Tell you or was it on the phone or >> It just whenever we fight, he's just like, "I might as well kill myself. I'm going to go blow my brains out." Like >> Okay. >> I think he just uses it as like a >> Um do you mind if I see the text messages that he's been sending? >> Oh, he's only sent me two so far since all this happened. >> Since this morning? >> Yeah. Well, because he had my phone all morning. He didn't give it back till like 10 minutes before I called you guys. He was like, "I don't want you to leave this morning. Please call me in a moment." >> Getting your money from the pawn shop? >> Yeah, he took $400 out of my checking account last night to pay somebody for something. >> And then what this was like to pay you back? >> I guess so. He said he would pay me back. He said he was going to pawn one of his guns to pay me back. >> What did he take What did he say he's taking money for? >> Um he bought a ring camera system that fell off the back of a truck from somebody. >> Okay. >> The guy he bought that from is also the same guy that he said was going to come take care of me this morning for him. >> Do you know you Do you all know who that is? >> No, I don't know his name. I've only ever seen his car. >> And he's been here before? >> He's been here a couple times, yeah. He knows where we live. >> As the conversation continued, the girlfriend had walked them through everything step by step, including the moment she screamed for help and how he reacted. But then she said something that raised a question the officer hadn't thought to ask yet. >> Did You said he Did he ever threaten you with a gun? Can I ask you? Did he ever say like he was going to shoot you? Did he ever point it at you? >> He didn't point it directly at me. There was one time though when I put it in here when I asked him, "What are you going to do if I try to run out the door? Like, what are you going to do?" And he's like, "If I have to." >> Okay. >> So, I don't know if that counts or not. >> you. Um has he ever been violent in the past? >> Um He's been not nice. >> Never physical though? >> Um >> Like to this extent? >> Not to this extent. There was one time where he wouldn't let me leave the room we were in. >> How long was that here? >> No, that was at the house he was living at before here. >> Okay. How long ago was that? >> 4 months ago, maybe? 3 months ago. Um >> And you guys don't have to keep like kids in I just said you don't have any kids or anything. >> No no kids. >> Um the gun that's in there, is that the one that he was using to point at you or to hold you there? >> I have no idea. He's got like two really small ones. He's got like a medium-sized one. He's got two really big ones. >> Yes. >> He has He always has the one small one like in like in a holster in his pants. Um he had the big one by the couch, definitely. And he had a decent the medium-sized one of them on the couch next to him. >> Okay. >> I don't know which one he had in his hand at what time. >> Um did you ever with the knife, did you ever injure him at all? >> No, I didn't even get near him. Opposite side of the room. Cuz he had a gun, I obviously wasn't going to try to get close to him. >> And all this took place It started this morning, right? >> Yeah. >> Um >> Between like 5:00 a.m. and >> Any time it was physical would have been this morning? >> Yeah. >> Not like right before I got here. >> No, uh-uh. No. >> The girlfriend explained how she finally got her things back piece by piece, how she waited until he was gone, and how she called the police the moment she knew she was safe. But as the officer was taking her statement, something came up that she hadn't been expecting at all. >> Do you have any injuries or anything like that? >> No. No. Um at one point he calmed down a little, so I went back in our bedroom to like put space between us. Um and he came back in and he started asking me questions and like getting upset again. So, I got back up and I walked back out to the couch. And he started coming Well, back out to the living room. He started coming out, and I started to try to go towards the back door. He stopped me and wouldn't let me get out the back door. So, at that point, I just screamed really, really loud. I screamed help as loudly as I could. Cuz the sun was up by then. I was like, maybe somebody's walking by. Like, um So, I screamed help, and that really made him mad. He put one arm around me, put the other hand over my mouth, and held my nose shut. And he dragged me from the living room into our bed, and he put me down on the bed. And he's like, you won't [ __ ] scream. And I was like, what happens if I scream? What happens if I run? Are you going to kill me? He's like, I'll do what I have to or if I need to or something like that. Um And then I said, well, I'm going to get out of here somehow. I said, and I'm going to call the police. And then like his whole demeanor changed. He was like, you don't need to do that. He's like, you know I was just messing around. Nobody's coming to take you. I'm like, that's not how you mess around with somebody. Like, um so >> And that was right after the sun came up? >> Yeah, probably like I don't know. I don't know how long the sun had been up. >> Okay. >> It's all kind of blurry. Um And then he started saying, you know, you don't need to call the police. I'm sorry. He's like, I didn't mean it. He's like, here, I'll give you all your stuff back. He's like, just come out and be calm for an hour and I'll give you your stuff back after you calm down. So, I just sat on the couch and slowly, but surely, he like walked around the house and he like gave me my car key back. And then he like did other stuff for 20 minutes. Then he came back and gave me my wallet back. Then he did stuff for 20 minutes. Then he came back and gave me like my credit cards back. Then he said he couldn't find my cell phone. He didn't remember where he put it. I was like, well, my Apple Watch will ding my cell phone. So, I dinged it, and it was in his car. Like, I know he knew where it was. So, he got it out and he gave it to me. And I said, "I would like you to leave now." I said, "I need some time in my home to feel safe and to calm down by myself with my animals." I'm like, "I'd like to have a cup of coffee this morning and not feel like I'm in danger in my own home." So, he's like, "Okay, fine. I'll leave for an hour or so." And he got his stuff and he left. He took the ring cameras with him when he left. >> Mhm. Where were they mounted? >> Um they weren't mounted. They were just sitting. There was one sitting on the high picture on the far side of the living room pointed like at the living room. And there was one on the eye the kitchen counter island pointed towards the living room also. >> Uh you guys don't Do you have Wi-Fi here for those cameras to be used? >> We don't yet. No. Our Wi-Fi's getting set up tomorrow. >> Have you seen the cameras used since you've been here? >> Um he says they've been used because he says he saw me the other night come out and let the dogs out and stuff and there's no way he would have known that if he hadn't seen it on the camera. >> The officer told her that the fiance had already reached out to law enforcement and he was telling a very different story. The news caught her off guard and what the officer said next was something she needed to hear before they moved forward. >> All right. So, I'm going to ask you some questions. Some of these are going to sound kind of weird, but um he's been in contact with them already. >> Okay. He told me he was going to call the cops and told them I pulled the plug on him. >> Okay. Um he's got injuries. >> He's injuries? >> Yeah. So, what did he have any injuries when he left here? >> He did not. No. >> Um you said there was like a physical struggle whenever he came in when it first got physical was whenever he >> When I screamed and he dragged me into the bedroom. >> That was when he had your or his hand over your mouth. >> mouth and yeah. >> Okay. Um were you ever trying to get out of that at all? >> Um I couldn't really fight. I was holding onto my dog for dear life. I mean, I'm sure I was going like this, but and I think once he put me down on the bed, I tried to kick him, but he grabbed my leg like really really forcefully. >> Where? >> Um, just like down around here. I don't know. >> Around there? >> Yeah. Oh, I have marks all over my feet from surgery, so it's hard to tell. Um >> And that was the only physical part? >> Yeah. Well, there was one point after he gave me my phone back where I said I was going to call the police and he went across me and tried to grab my phone from me. And I tried to grab it back from him, but he got it out of my hand. >> Was he ever or you ever injured in that altercation at all? Like scratches or anything? >> when he pulled it out of my hand, but it didn't leave a mark or anything. >> Okay. Do you know what hand he was holding the phone in by chance? >> I know everything's falling out. >> me? Um, I would guess his right hand cuz he's right-handed like me. >> Okay. >> Do you have any injuries? >> He's got a mark on his head. >> Yeah. >> And then he's got I think it was his left. >> What? That looks like cuts or >> Yeah, they're like scratches. He's got scratches on here, on this arm. >> You can scrape my finger >> across the top of his forehead, too. >> Right here. >> You left here and he hurt himself. Tried to hurt himself. >> Just raise your right hand. Do you swear and affirm that the statement you gave to me today is true to the best of your knowledge and ability, so help you God? >> Yeah, 100%. >> Just sign there. We'll be right back with you, okay? >> The girlfriend had given her sworn statement, and now the focus shifted. Before going to speak with the fiance, the officers took a moment to gather a few more details. >> If I'm going to leave him, his life is over. He lost his family. He's just going to kill himself. He's like, "Here, I'll give you the gun. You And I'm like, >> That was today? >> Just stay away from me. Yeah. >> What time was that, roughly? >> 10:30, 11:00. I >> Okay. So, that was well before he left. >> Oh, yeah. Well before he left. >> You you that text message or anything like that? >> No. >> Just said it verbally to you? Okay. And he hung out here for a little while longer and then he left after that? After he made those statements? >> Um >> I say hung out, he was just here in the house. >> he like put his shoes on and he like gave the rest of my stuff back to me. Then he spent like 20 minutes before he left begging me not to call the cops. >> Mhm. >> And then he got in his car and he left and as soon as he was out on the driveway, I came out and I made sure he was gone. >> Mhm. >> And then I called. >> Um and you said as far as medication-wise, he's on anything you said? >> Um I mean, I have all his pills in the house. I can show them to you. I just don't know what they are. >> Is he diagnosed with anything, do you know? >> Um not that I'm aware of. >> Can we take a look at those? >> Yeah. >> With everything they needed from the girlfriend, the officers turned their attention to the fiance. He had his own version of that morning and the story he was about to tell them was completely different from the one they had just heard. >> Give me a brief rundown as far as what happened today. >> So, I was down here. We just moved into the house. She's going through the divorce. Hasn't been taking her meds like sporadically on and off and then stopped taking them when we were together. Every other day it's it's the end of the world. I want my life back. And then this is a mistake and So, she's been at work two hours and every other day it's the end of the world. Well, this morning another breakdown freaking out. We start arguing. We go back >> What was What was she freaking out over? >> I was like, "You ruined my life. My life is over. I don't want this." >> What time was that? >> I don't know. It was like 6:00 or 6:30. >> So, she was already late? >> She was on and off. She She's very light sleeper. >> Okay. What happened after that? >> We just started arguing back and forth. Came out the bedroom into the kitchen. I was going to make some coffee and she goes after me. Then got the knife and started going at it. We're certain they are. It's the same dumb [ __ ] >> She grabbed the knife and what did she do with the knife? >> She started playing with it. Just like she would any other week. We got into it. >> Did Who Who first? >> I never I never cut her. >> Okay. Well, you said you're going at it so that's why I'm asking. >> did try to like restrain like if anything you know restrain. >> Did she come at you with the knife? >> She came at me. >> Okay. Um Was she saying anything to you? When you were with the knife? >> Yeah, okay. As far as she's going to kill me or something like that. >> Yeah. She threaten you with it? >> I don't want to get in trouble. >> Okay. >> The fiance claimed the girlfriend came at him with a knife that he was the one defending himself. But when the officer looked closer at the injuries he was pointing to, something about them didn't match what he was describing. >> Where were the guns at? >> All throughout the house. >> Okay. Um >> They're usually just laying around. >> What's going on with the one that's still there? >> I grabbed what I saw and I left. >> Okay. Um >> I don't know if there's one or two or three left. I don't know how many I just grabbed. >> How many guns do you have? >> Seven here. >> Do you know how many you have with you? >> Three or four. >> Are they all pistols or? >> They're technically considered pistols but they're rifles. >> Okay. >> Rifle pistols. >> Just the short So all this happened during after Was that after you got the knife away? >> It was all day. All day. It was like from 5:00 until we stopped. Then it started up again. And then it stopped and it wasn't until like what 1:00 or something like that. 12:30 or 1:00 before I left. >> Okay. When she had the knife, how was she holding it? These These are going to sound like silly questions but we have to ask. Was she holding it like this? >> Or was she holding it like this? >> No, like this. >> Like this? >> Just have it like this. >> Oh, oh, okay. >> Um >> When she cut you in the head with it, how can you recall how >> I was in the kitchen and was turning around. She came at me and grabbed me around the arm, and I went down and she cut her foot. I don't know if it was here. I'm assuming it was a knife cuz it hurts. >> Was it just once or >> Well, she didn't keep coming at me. We were arguing. The only thing I was doing was trying to restrain her. >> So, you're saying she cut you where? There and where else? >> I think I don't know if it was her arm or a scratch or I don't know if it was >> What happened right here? >> Where? Which one? >> I don't know. Between everything going on. >> Are you on medication for anything? >> I was prescribed uh lorazepam, but I don't take it. I just got a prescription for a prescription of >> What's that for? >> It's anxiety medication. >> So, that's >> Basically >> Gotcha. Um I'm sure they probably already asked you about the injuries, but do you need any kind of medical attention or else? >> I don't know why. >> We have to ask. What's that? >> I said I figured why I'm going to ask. >> Yeah, we ask even if you have no injuries, if somebody's claiming a physical altercation, we have to ask. So, liability thing, plus we want to make sure you're okay cuz there may be some we don't see. Um any injuries anywhere else other than what we can see? >> I don't think so. >> Can you turn around for me? >> The officer compared the marks on the fiance with the story he was telling. The scratches didn't line up with a knife attack. The details weren't adding up, and as the questions kept coming, the gap between his account and the evidence was getting harder to ignore. >> Marks. Turn around for >> Turn around? >> Yep. >> Turn around? >> What's that for? >> Turn around. >> Can you explain it to me together? >> We have two very completely different statements. This is supposedly been going on since 5:00 this morning. >> Of course. >> Correct? >> Since 5:00 this morning, yes, sir. >> Okay. The knife, there's as far as the knife, there's nothing consistent with a knife here. Um if you were to Have you seen your head? >> No. >> Okay. You have a scratch going across, you have a scratch on your arm, I believe, on that one. If this was a knife, you would have at least somewhat deeper, it'd be straight, like a paper cut. >> I don't know if the knife or nails or what. >> And we also have So, she put it in a sworn written statement that you said that um that you just wish you would with the gun. Um are there any kind of thoughts of self-harm >> No. No, not at all. >> Okay. She said that you had You said that you wish she would have you when she had the chance. >> This is [ __ ] >> Um that Go ahead. I'll let you finish. >> Officer, so anybody can make any kind of claim? >> So, if it's in a sworn statement, I'm It's not just any kind of claim. Right now, we don't Go ahead. I'll let you finish. You're asking me questions, but I'll let you finish. Go ahead. >> I'm sorry. >> Go ahead. I'm I'm here for you. You tell me. >> Please just talk. I don't mean to be rude. I'm just trying >> Hey, if I If one of us come and get you, would be Would you be willing to come and get his car? >> Yeah, I can do that. >> Okay. He's already been taken down there, or he's on his way down there now. >> Okay. >> And then um I'm going to do a report on it. I'll probably have it done tonight. All right? Um this side. It'll be the back. I know it's not comfortable, but >> No, it's okay. >> Hey, I'll turn the air on. Do you want the window down, or do you want the air still? >> I I would say Could I please have a drink? >> I can't give you any. >> In the end, the fiance was arrested and charged with domestic battery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and false imprisonment. Moving on to the case of a woman who called 911 after a confrontation, [music] and while her boyfriend claimed it was just a breakup, the evidence officers uncovered told them something else entirely. >> Hey, the kid is here. He's on property. You want to send one more? >> Yeah, you guys shut the door and lock it just in case. Did you place your hand over her mouth or pin her down at any time? So, you smashed a pitcher? >> smashed Yeah, I cracked it with my hands. >> On April 10th, 2026, officers in Florida responded to an apartment complex after a woman reported that an argument with her boyfriend had turned physical. She had already given her statement outside, and now officers were looking for the man she accused. His car was still in the lot, but he was nowhere to be seen. >> here, and I was like right at that door like right right there, two doors down. >> Okay. >> got in his car. He was parked right there. >> Like in that open spot? >> his car? >> Is this his car right here? >> His car is on the other side. I'm pretty sure. Yeah, that's his car. >> That's his car? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Yeah, his car is on the other side. I don't know. I can't see it. >> Is that his car here? >> Yes, Dad. Just go inside, okay? All right. >> All right, both of you guys go inside. >> Hey. >> Hey, the kid is here. He's on property. Do you want to send one more? >> Okay. 22 come one, just go ahead. >> I'm en route to 97. I guess the uh suspect's in the apartment now. I'll start heading that way. >> I'm going to go make contact. >> No, no, no. Just hang out upstairs until Cody calls arrival. >> All right, we got it. >> All right. >> So, this gentleman doesn't have a mustache. Does he still have a mustache right now? He's with another girl, too. >> No, that's not him. That's not >> That's just his car. >> car. I don't know where >> Okay, yeah. You guys >> a dog, um, so maybe he's around here. It's a goldendoodle, so she was here during this time as well. But, I'll go >> All right. Yeah, you guys and shut the door. >> Okay. >> Um, and lock it just in case, okay? >> With the girlfriend safe upstairs, officers focused on locating the boyfriend. His vehicle was right there in the lot, but the man himself had disappeared. As they widened their search, the next few minutes were about to lead them straight to him. >> She's up in her apartment, 202 C. This is his car. I'm going to just walk around and see if I see him. >> Does he live with her? >> No. >> Where does he live? >> He lives This is his car, but he lives down in Truman Annex. >> Okay. >> He left. >> Sharp. Sharp. >> Does she have his location on Snapchat or something? >> She doesn't have a He, I think, has her phone and Apple Watch. >> No. Okay. How long has that car been here? >> The uh >> Did you touch the car? >> Not yet. No, we came out because she said he threw something in the bush. Is it still warm? >> No, it's cold, Sharp. Does she Does she know like if he goes and grabs beer somewhere like snacks? This is supposed to be his girlfriend? >> Yeah, 8 months. >> Officers had just located the boyfriend nearby and brought him in. He was calm, cooperative, and had his own version of what happened, one that sounded nothing like what the girlfriend had described. >> All right, I'm just kind of showing up. So, what's what's going on? >> Uh, we just got in an argument a few hours ago, kind of just escalated. Calling each other out on stuff, and yeah, basically nothing like no actual reason. We didn't really just ended up saying not be with each other, and >> Okay, so you're going through >> through like a breakup? >> Yeah, basically. And I was like, all right, well, let's just I was like, let me get my stuff, let me get your stuff, and I mean, it wasn't the prettiest, but I I never like never no physical I tried to hug her and stuff, but nothing like forceful or anything like that. I was never like throwing her around or anything. >> I got you. All right. Um another officer is the primary officer. I'm just helping him out. So, he's going to probably want to talk to you in a few minutes. >> Sure. Is that the one I was on the phone with? >> Uh no, that was my sergeant. >> Okay. >> Yep. So, um the other officer is the primary officer, so he's probably going to want to chat with you. >> Sure. >> Um so, I'm just going to shut the door and leave you in there for a few minutes, okay? So, just sit tight for me, okay? >> Absolutely. >> Um So, I just was like, "Hey, man, what's going on?" Like, "I'll talk to you for a second." And then he just he confirmed that he was in an argument with his girlfriend. He didn't say anything other than that, like physical or anything like that. >> Okay. >> So, I read him the Miranda and kind of just see if he corroborates what my my rear video is uh >> Is rolling? >> Is he here? >> Hey, how's it going, Tyler? My name is Officer Cahill. So, basically before I'm going to ask you a bunch of questions, but before I do, I got to read you this, all right? >> The boyfriend, identified as Tyler, told officers the argument was just words, nothing physical, no force, no struggle. But the girlfriend had already given a very different account, and the officer was about to put those two versions side by side. >> Do you understand each of these rights as as I've explained them to you? >> Yes, sir. >> With these rights in mind, do you wish to speak with me now? >> Uh it's my best ability, yes, sir. >> Yes? All right. So, why don't you start with kind of telling me what happened. I know you told Officer Florians that you were in an argument with your girlfriend. >> Sure. Yes, sir. >> All right. So, did it any point did that get physical? >> Uh not to my awareness, uh hurt or or anything like that. >> Did you place your hand over her mouth or pin her down at any time? >> No, sir. >> No. Okay, so she's telling us that you pushed her down on the couch and you placed your hand over her mouth. >> I tried to talk to her multiple times. Like I said, I invited her multiple times to talk, sit down with me. >> Okay. So, did you ever pin her down on the couch or the bed? >> No, sir. >> Okay. Um do you ever place your hand over her mouth or blankets over her face? >> We had We tried to hug a few times. Uh but I don't think at any point I was anytime trying to like cover her face or anything like that. >> Okay. So, what what was the tell me on your side as far as like what the argument or what the fight were about. What were you guys arguing about? >> I mean just kind of a magnitude of things. Just things escalating in our our relationship. But just she I was trying to talk to her about things that I was feeling and it's been a kind of a problem and it happened 2 weeks ago actually at home and she was doing the same thing saying, "You're throwing your career away. Like I can get you fired right now." She kind of did that whole number like to me 2 weeks ago in front of my roommate. And uh it's kind of a I just feel like it's kind of an egg shells I'm walking on when I'm around her. >> The officer pressed Tyler on the specific claims the girlfriend had made, being pinned down, being held against her will. Tyler denied everything. But then the conversation shifted to something else entirely and that's when things started to get complicated. >> it wasn't When did you meet up with her tonight? Like how did that >> up from work at 5:00. >> You picked her up from work. Okay. So, when you picked her up from work >> There was no issue when I picked her up. >> Okay. She didn't say anything to you after you picked her up from work? >> No. >> Okay. Um what were you doing before you picked her up? >> Golfing. >> You were golfing. Okay. You picked her up and then what? Then what happened? >> her straight back here. >> Um once you got home, then then walk me through kind of what happened there. >> Uh we were just kind of doing thing, like let the dogs out and walk them and we were just kind of talking and then we kind of just like argument kind of arose and she was saying that I was, you know, picking at her or whatever and then it kind of just escalated from there. >> So, you really wasn't like a >> Okay. >> like you did something or I did something. It was just kind of just kind of >> But when you when you say things escalated, can you I mean we weren't there. Can you kind of explain what you meant? >> Uh, well, we were just calling each other out on just like just bull that you irritate me with that, I irritate you with that and then yeah. So, it wasn't really a specific thing like, you know, I >> And while you while you guys are like throwing those insults back and forth, like are you guys being animated? Are you talking with your hands? Is anybody like Is she shoving anybody? Is she shoving you? >> No. >> Nothing like that. Okay. >> Not until the very very end was like I was like, "Do you want to figure this out >> Right. >> or do you not want to figure this out?" I invited her three times on the couch to sit down and talk about it. She said, "No, I want you to leave." I said, "Okay, let's talk let's talk like I want to if we're done, I'm going to leave. I'll hug you." So, she hugged me. She kind of pushed me away and then I hugged her back like pulled her back in and then maybe that's what she thinks I was like being maybe aggressive about, but I after that I I don't know. I grabbed my stuff grabbed my as much as I could and my dog and I and I left. >> Okay. Did you take any pictures, any any money, any any of her property? >> Uh, no. Nothing that didn't belong to me. No. >> Tyler had just given his side about what happened inside that apartment, but the officer still had questions about a few things that didn't add up and what he told Tyler next made the stakes very clear. >> So, there's some broken glass in the apartment. What happened how did that happen? >> There was a picture of us and I said I you do you want to just ruin this and then she goes, "Yes." And then I just broke it in half. >> So, okay. So, you smashed so you smashed a picture? >> I just yeah, I cracked it in my hands >> [cough] >> and said, "Do you want do you want to be done with this?" She said, "Yes." Broke it. Left it on the counter. Right there. And then once she left, I threw it in the trash. >> When she left, she left with her dog. Did she tell you why she was leaving? >> Not really. She She's going to the cop station or >> Okay. You said when you left, you threw stuff like whatever you had in the garbage. Which garbage? >> What I had in the garbage? >> You said a picture that you threw stuff in the garbage. >> Just that picture, yeah. >> And what garbage? >> The one in the house. >> Okay. She's saying that she's missing a few items. She said she's missing an Apple Watch and her phone. And her phone? >> I put I put the Apple Watch on the counter when I left. >> Okay. >> I have no idea where the phone is. >> You didn't actually put those in your car while you were leaving or like with with the stuff that you were just taking in a rush? So both of them you left on the counter. >> I have no idea where the phone is. >> But the what? So if you >> [cough] >> just We're basically just trying to find those items also for her to get back. Can we Is it okay if we look in your vehicle just to We can look in your vehicle when we get back there. Okay, sounds good. >> And it should It's probably >> Okay. Tyler had just given his explanation for the broken frame, the missing phone, and the Apple Watch. He let officers search his car, but nothing turned up. The girlfriend was adamant about where she'd last seen those items. And as the search came up empty, the questions were only getting harder to answer. >> What did what and what did you do at that point? You said you threw a picture out when she left. >> Yeah, and then I grabbed as much as my stuff that I could >> Okay. >> What did you grab? What What were those things? >> It's in the car. It's probably like a our little calendar, like cash we had in the piggy bank. It wasn't a lot, so I had my dog as well. So it was just like a couple of things. >> Yeah, where is your dog now? >> At home. >> Okay. >> I I called my buddy to get her. >> When she came back to the apartment, what happened at that point? >> She She was like talking to some dude in the hallway or whatever. Or or on the corridor. I just left. >> And then at that point you left. Okay. Did any point try leaving your car and try to get her to get back in the car with you? >> Uh I lived around the complex, but I did not really lure her in or anything like that. >> Okay. >> Did you talk to her? Did you say anything like through the window? >> I mean, yeah, I said like is you know, is this really over or like whatever like so to that context like like are you not you know, I'm trying to talk to you. That was that was it. >> How did she receive that? >> I didn't hear or really visually see anything. >> Okay. >> You didn't see her respond to you? >> No. >> The way she recalls it and now when you're playing golf, were you drinking while you're playing golf? >> Yeah, but we ended at 1:30. >> 1:30? >> we tee'd off at 9:00. >> Okay, so when you went to pick her up at 5:00, where did you where did you leave from to go pick her up? >> Her apartment. I went from here to the apartment, walked the dogs >> And left there, went picked her up and then came back. >> Yeah, yes, sir. >> Okay. She obviously hasn't been drinking. She's been working. She made a statement that when you tried to get her to get in the car, you looped around, you went back to the apartment. When she returned to the apartment at that point, what happened? Okay. >> had to grab everything. >> You'd already grabbed everything. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> She had some dude like dude up there in the hallway. I don't I don't know. >> The officers told Tyler exactly what would happen if those items didn't turn up. He was the last person who had them. Tyler stuck to his story, but what the officers told him next was something he never saw coming. >> I didn't see no Apple Watch or phone. And I doubt it's here. >> Did he say what what he wore or what it might be? >> He said he doesn't He said he He said he left the He put the Apple Watch on the counter. But he said he had no idea where the phone is. >> So, she just said up there that the last she saw was in his hand. But she said she said I'm going to call 911 [clears throat] on my Apple Watch. Snatch it off and then he snatched it off. >> I don't know. >> All right, Tyler, one more question, boss. She's missing her iPhone and her Apple Watch. You were the last one she had those pieces of property, right? So, it's going to This is how it it goes cuz you you took her watch off her wrist, right? >> Uh yeah, I unlatched it and put it on the on the uh um on the sill on the far end of the >> Okay, so she had her property until you were there collecting stuff. >> to say, "I'm going to ruin your career." and all this stuff. I was like, "Let's just take the watch off." >> I understand, but it was on her. It's her property. And her she's missing her phone. You know, obviously you understand iPhones are very expensive. So are Apple Watches. She's searched her whole apartment. So either it's in your stuff, we searched your car, it's not in the car. So, it can either be you get charged with theft for temporarily depriving her of her property or you get charged with grand theft because of the price of it. So, do you want to tell us where you might have put it, thrown it, or anything? It'd be better to just tell us. >> Yeah, I never took it out of the apartment. >> The watch? >> Yeah, no. We went on a walk together. If she dropped it anywhere, I I don't know. >> Where did you and her go on a walk together? >> just walk just up and down the street. >> Up and down here? >> Yeah, or up towards uh the Boulevard area. >> Okay, so it no >> on our phones together, so >> Okay. >> when we're when we're together, so >> You You're saying that the the watch is in the apartment and you have no idea where the phone is. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> I mean, I'd imagine so. I don't I don't know. >> But I mean, you understand the implication because you're the last one you you pulled the watch off of her. >> I put it on the window sill and she knew it she knew it was right there. >> All right. >> I cuz she was, you know, threatening and saying, you know, "Your threatening your career." and I said, "Let's just sit down and talk." Put it on the window sill and she said, "No, you know, F this. I want to Yeah, get out." So, then that's when I left. >> If she can't find it, you're going to end up getting charged with grand theft. >> All right, Tyler. So, you're going to be placed under arrest for domestic violence. >> Yeah. >> So, I'm going to have you step out. >> In the end, Tyler was arrested and charged with domestic battery by violation, grand theft, and robbery. [music] Next up, we have the case of a girlfriend who swore she just slipped and fell. But, the neighbors who heard everything through the walls were telling officers a completely different [music] story. >> Because >> Because I was trying to grab the cigarettes from him, and my leg intertwined with his, and I went down. >> You seen you witnessed him punch her or something like that. >> Yeah. >> What did you hear? >> Sounded like smacking. >> Right. >> Stop it. Please, don't. >> a sudden, he hit against the side of the house right here. You can see it moving. >> I unders- Ma'am, I'm understanding >> I'm going to be smelling decomposed body next. >> On July 27th, 2025, officers responded to a trailer home after neighbors reported a domestic disturbance. When they arrived, the boyfriend was outside acting as if nothing had happened, and the girlfriend had a story ready. A tussle over a pack of cigarettes, a fall in the hallway, and a face full of bruises she was blaming on a wall. >> Hey. What's going on, man? >> I got into it with the guy again, no big deal. >> Ma'am. Can you come out here, please? >> Yeah, we did. Yeah. >> No, I need you to come out. I need to see you. >> No, that's not That's the mom. >> What's up? >> Like >> Who else is here? >> No, I did not. >> Tell her to come out here, please. I don't Just stop right now. Tell her to come out here. Come out here. Are you all right? >> Yeah, I'm sorry. >> Officers pulled her aside. She held her story together, but the dispatcher had been on the line the entire time it was happening. And what they had heard before officers even arrived told a very different story. >> All right, what's your name, ma'am? >> He stole her cigarettes. He tried to get them back from me, and they get to go off right here. I'm sitting right here, and they're struggling over the pack of cigarettes, and he >> You seen You witnessed him punch her or something like that. >> Yeah. >> If you seen it, I need to know. Did you see it, or did you just assume like So, what did you see, ma'am? >> I seen him hit her. He slapped her or punched her. I seen I seen him go like this. He's got the marks on her face. >> Right. So, you didn't see how he hit her. >> He I don't know if he slapped her or punched her. >> But, you seen one or the other. >> I I seen him go like this. I don't know if he went like this and slapped her or he punched her. >> Did you see his hand in her face? >> It went Yeah, and then she went Oh my god, you just hit me, and slid down the wall. >> You heard her say that. Okay. You have any other injuries, ma'am? >> No. >> Okay. Well, ma'am, it >> No. >> not completely. >> And I went not loud, because I've been beat up by a man before, worse, way worse, by a >> This is not bad enough for you to want to do something. >> He didn't do this, though. That's the problem. >> Ma'am, what's your name? >> Rebecca. >> Rebecca. >> by Becky. >> Okay, Becky. His mom is stating that And then Ma'am, can I >> He was saying that he'd been fighting all day, because he's been talking to his brother's girlfriend. >> please talk? >> So, she started >> Can I talk, please? >> Yes, I'm just telling you. >> Thank you. His mom is stating that she she witnessed >> He did it. >> And then, the neighbors are even describing the same exact thing, ma'am, of what they heard. >> In the hallway. Of us tussling in the hallway over cigarettes. If I thought that I was in a danger with him, I'd have called. But, I'm not. >> How often do you guys fight? >> We argue a lot. This time, it was because of his brother's girlfriend. >> Do you see where all this is adding up, ma'am? And I didn't even finish what I said. Not only does his mom say that he she was saw you get and slide down the wall. They're even saying the same thing where they heard you slammed up against the wall. And it's matching up with when you probably you possibly slid down the wall when you were Do you understand that? >> I understand, but that's what I'm saying. I do not get it. And that's what We were tussling in the hallway. >> Mhm. >> I spun. When I spun, I hit the wall and fell. >> Okay. >> Of course I'm going to fall. >> So when you toss it over pack of cigarettes >> Over pack of cigarettes cuz he takes my cigarettes from me all the time. >> Okay. >> And that's my stress reliever. >> Okay. I understand. >> Don't take my cigarettes. So me, because I've been through so much, yeah, I do fight back. >> Mhm. >> And I will tussle a man. I don't care. Don't take something that's mine. >> I understand that. I'm sorry about it. I don't know what it what's going to come from this after the course, but we do, you know, have a job to do. You know what I mean, and I'll apologize if you don't think we were right on this, but >> Really, I don't think so because, you know, like I said >> I believe you're just not being honest with us. >> The officers turned their attention to the suspect's mother who had witnessed the incident unfold and could provide a crucial eyewitness account of what had happened that night. >> what's your name, ma'am? >> He took her cigarettes. She tried to get them back from me, and they get to the wall right here. I'm sitting right here, and they're struggling over the pack of cigarettes, and he >> You seen you witnessed him punch her or something like that. >> Yeah. >> If you seen it, I need to know. Did you see it or did you just assume that? >> No. >> So what did you see, ma'am? >> I seen him either he slapped her or punched her. I seen seen him go like this. She's got the marks on her face. >> Right. So you didn't see how he hit her. >> He I don't know if he slapped her or punched her. >> But you seen one or the other? >> I heard I seen him go like this. I don't know if he went like this and slapped her or he punched. >> Did you see his hand her face? >> It went yeah. >> And then not not >> Oh my god, you just see me and slid down the wall. >> 3800 >> You heard her say that. Okay. >> After taking the mother's statement, the officer confronted the couple once again. Despite the eyewitness account, both remained firmly in denial, forcing the officer to dig deeper into a story that wasn't adding up. >> EMS? >> 3800 1100 Hardy Street >> with her face? >> The corner of the wall The >> 8 copies >> Corner of the >> Corner of the wall >> Yeah. >> That's what I was telling him. I'm on thin ice. I bruise easy. I bleed easy. >> All right. What's this about somebody beating somebody's ass? >> What? Nobody said anything like that. >> Not so. All right. I'm just saying this is what this is the notes we get in. >> Yeah. So the neighbors said >> So what? Y'all was outside when this happened? >> No. >> No. We were inside. >> All right. >> Nobody said anything about anything about beating anybody's ass. >> One by one, the neighbors came forward. Multiple accounts, all describing the same thing. Smacking, what sounded like choking, a woman screaming stop, and body slamming against the inside of the trailer hard enough to shake the walls. Nobody saw exactly what happened, but everyone heard it. >> Did y'all just hear everything or you just see it? >> Uh we saw her and him. This is not the first time. >> I don't understand that. >> Every time I'm over >> Did you see Did you see him her? >> I did not see >> I know. What did you hear? >> Sounded like smacking. >> Right. >> Stop it. Please don't >> All of a sudden there was 30 against the side of the house right here and you could see it >> This was outside? >> No, inside. >> That's what she in the window >> a window that's open. >> her what? You seen them both >> I saw them both fly >> fly down the >> Okay. >> You could hear it, too. >> Okay. >> Screaming >> She's lying. >> No, with the dispatcher >> I was like, she got everything. The dispatcher heard everything while this was going on. And then as soon as you guys get here, they are all cool. >> Yeah, and they And then they started walking. Yeah. >> Huh? Don't have enough. I don't know. Yeah, I understand. >> It's my and my birthday. >> Thank you. >> I've been here since March. >> Of last year. >> Okay. Y'all together, married, with him? Okay. >> We're together. >> Okay. How long y'all been together? >> Uh 3 years. >> Y'all got kids together? >> No, no, no, I got I got kids. >> He's got kids, I got kids, yeah. All right. This is why we're in the small hallway, we're arguing over cigarettes, and I went to grab them and I fell and hit the corner of the the wall. >> Am I able to come up there, please? >> Yes, yeah. >> How did Did you go You All right, tell me what all what all you guys seen. >> See where See where at. We can hear >> Yes. >> on. >> I understand, yes. >> And they got all their windows open right here. >> Right. >> Right. >> Like we literally just got done eating and we all come out here to smoke and like all we do is hear this chaos. >> Right. Did you guys say something You see You Were you able to see anything? >> and we heard like it sounded like the side of the trailer we got coming at us. >> Right. >> We all yelled, "Hey!" >> Right. >> And everything they calmed down and she was like, "We got the cops coming." >> But you didn't see anything? >> We saw him and her. >> And they >> run back. >> Okay. >> The open window, them walking through and chasing each other. They were right in this window. >> They were standing cuz right there >> We saw two heads. >> In that little window right there? >> Yeah, in that little window. >> Okay. But you didn't see her like slide down a wall or >> We heard the bang. >> the tumble. >> Big bang. >> Did you hear like a smack or a punch? >> It sounded like she was getting a whooping on her. >> It's so like this. >> I mean it's So Sorry, you guys got to go. >> I'm sorry.
