It's only a matter of time. No problem. I gave up everything on a chance. Somebody lied. Getting too many god chances, man. You know what? I was in the shower. I heard guns. I killed my wife. Some killers think they're smarter than everyone else. They think that if they act shocked, cry on command, and call 911 first, no one will suspect a thing. But what happens when the mask slips and the truth starts to surface? No. You think Do you think all you want? I think you did. No, I didn't. These are the moments when the killers tried to play the victim and it backfired. Starting with the chilling case of Keith Johansson, a 36-year-old man married to 25-year-old Brandy Johansson. Keith had just stepped out of the shower when he found his newlywed wife lying lifeless on the bedroom floor. According to him, she must have accidentally sh herself. Do you think she did this to harm herself or you think this was accidental? Any idea? No. No, I think it's accidental. Then I heard this secondary shot and I ran out there and seen her laying there going. So, I called you guys immediately. She She had her little scream and then I heard two guns. I feel really offended that you guys can try to pin an accident on me. On April 7th, 2018, Keith Johansson placed a frantic 911 call claiming that his wife had herself while he was taking a shower. She brea she talking to you breathing anything? Yes, she's breathing. All right. Is she able to say anything to you? Baby. Hey, baby. No. Do you think you'll hear it? Okay. I can hear her breathe though. Can you apply? Are you applying pressure to that wound? No, I can't like that. I'm wet and I'm sliding on my floors. You can't apply pressure. I can't see it. I got wood floors and I'm sliding. I don't want to risk hurting her or possibly one of the guns going off, too. Hurry. We are. We're on our way. They're getting there as fast as they can. All right. The first officers at the scene found Keith's wife lifeless in the bedroom, just feet away from where her son sat watching TV in another room. Brandy had been twice in the chest with a 9 mm handgun, a detail that raised immediate suspicions. How would she be able to hit herself twice in the chest? Cool, man. Relax. Relax. So, you got in the shower. How long were you in the shower? What' you say? Maybe 5 minutes. 5 minutes. Sorry. And I heard boom boom and I thought it was a balloon. How many shots did you hear? Two. You heard two? And I thought it was a balloon at first. Then I heard this secondary shot and I ran out there and seen her laying there going. So I called you guys immediately. Keith's accounts were inconsistent and the officer noticed that he was not wet at all despite his claim of just getting out of the shower. At first, he claimed that this must have been accidental, and then he claimed she had been suicidal. Over time, his story grew even more bizarre. I was going to tell her mom. All right. Hey, listen. You at this point at this point, just listen. You're going through a traumatic experience right now. Just relax. Deep breaths. Try to try to just collect your thoughts. All right? Listen, this is not something that you're going to be able to do like that. Okay? Right? So just I don't want nobody in my family to ever have a gun again. Okay, Keith. Just Okay, you're just right now. You need to try hard. Nobody can say I I know. But Keith's deep emotions seem to convince the friends and family around, but the officers and detectives seem to think otherwise. Deputies on the scene discussed the lack of water on his body and defensive scratches on his torso that would likely be consistent with a struggle. A lot of scratches on. Yeah. He's not wet. No, he was in the shower. Yeah. Okay. Um the only thing that that thing is the shower is underneath his shirt. Under her shirt? Under his shirt? Where the case? It's like right at the foot of the bed. Dude, he's got scratches and blood all over him. And he said that he was in the shower. He's not wet at all. As the deputies dug deeper, the narrative began to unravel. The Johansson's home was equipped with surveillance cameras capturing almost every angle both inside and outside the house. The night before Brandy passed away, Keith and Brandy had a verbal dispute. Footage shows her sobbing on the bed while he verbally assaults her. It's only a matter of time so much and threatened to spend the rest of your days in an institution. I could throw you there tomorrow. You did? No problem. Can you push a person to either beat or you because you're on 911 kick out of here or you ain't waking up. I want to just hurt you and leave. God knows you deserve just too many chances, man. to show a cop these videos. In a calculated move, he removed the cameras before the incident. What usually happens here? I don't even know. These aren't usual occurrences, so I'm sure they don't want to be standing out in the rain and then the sun. Looks like it's about to down. I mean, like house is not helping. Oh, I I'm sure they have a whole list of they get paid a lot more than I get paid to know how to handle these situations because I don't know if I'm going to be all right. Keith was brought into an interrogation room where detectives were waiting for him. If it hadn't been for the surveillance footage, the jury would have most likely believed his claim that it was truly an accident. However, the motive was clear. And about 3 minutes later, I pop, you know, I was like, "What the heck?" You know what I mean? So I just thought then I heard pop and it was just, you know, that's how it went pop and I was like, "Ah, something's wrong." Went out, slipped across at the floor, was looking around. I didn't see her at first. And then I was like, "What the heck, man?" And I looked over and she was laying right there like this. I was like, "Brandy, Brandy." And at that point, there was no blood or nothing. I said, "Brandie, Brandy." Then I looked down and seen the guns and I immediately called 911. I mean, immediately. Here's the first major inconsistency in Keith's story. He claimed he couldn't rescue Brandy because he was wet and slipping on the floor. But surveillance footage from inside the home tells a different story. Instead of staying by Bry's side, Keith was seen running around the house, hiding illegal contraband, all while pretending to be with her. In reality, he was letting her pass away on the floor. The only person in the house at the time of the incident was Bry's six-year-old son, Keith's stepson. Speaking with him became a crucial part of the investigation. She She had her little scream and then I heard two gunshots. More evidence began to unfold, but Keith kept rejecting his involvement when he was questioned in the interrogation room. Can you tell me in as much detail as you can in your mind what you think really happened? In my mind, what I think happened from where she was and the way she was is maybe she was trying to make our bed and she grabbed him and when she grabbed them, one went off and she dropped the other or wore them both. I have no idea. But it was just you don't think you're going to get out of the damn shower and see this. No. Um, immediately when I stain her down, I know that she had accidentally let off a round. Um, and that's what I think happened. Um, of course I have I I don't know cuz I wasn't there for sure. Um, but that's what I would think would happen. Why she'd be moving them makes sense. Mhm. Um why she did move them, I have no idea. Only she knows that. And uh that's the only thing that I can think of. How familiar with guns is she? She's newer. Okay. Newer to it. Law enforcement had a lot of evidence against him, and the autopsy report only backed up their suspicions. In the blood spatter analysis that was conducted, it became clear that two bullets had been fired. One from a short distance and one from a distance. In other words, Brandy couldn't be the one who fired these bullets. And his story about this being an accident was falling apart. How often does it happen that somebody accidentally shoots themsel twice? I don't know if she was shot once or twice. I don't know. Well, you said it went off twice. Yes. Yes. Um I don't know. I don't know. Um, she dropped the other one. You know, it happens. Sure. Um, I have [Music] never I have never heard of it being like that unless you drop it, right? Heard of it being like what? I'm sorry. Like AMS fire. We need to have a little bit of a harder conversation. Okay? Because as much as I want to believe that the guns fell and went off and shot her, what we have at the scene just doesn't show that. So, I want to keep our relationship open and honest, and I want to be able to respect you, and I want to be able to preserve the love that you have for Brandy, and I also want to give Brandy the justice that she deserves. And I think we need to have a harder conversation. Go for it. Is there any chance at all that something different happened that you have not told us? None. Because that's what happened. I got to I got no reason to lie to you guys. I mean, you guys are investigators for God's sake. Um, that's what I seen and that's what I heard. Well, I mean, you said you have no reason to lie. I mean, I'm not saying that you're flat out lying to us. That's not what I'm saying at all. Okay. What I am saying is that what we have at the scene, okay, does not add up to what you're telling us. I want I want to believe you. I do. And I want to keep this relationship going that we have so that it's not difficult for you. I don't want to add to the trauma that you've already gone through. I really don't. It's not going to be difficult. Well, yes, but you can make it easier for yourself. We cannot. Sure. Sure. If after we leave out of this room today, I'm able to say that I feel comfortable with everything that we've talked about, you'll never have to see me again. Okay? And at this point, I don't feel comfortable with that. That's fine. You can investigate as much as you want. And we're going to fine, but this is your opportunity to help yourself and to lay it all out for us because there's a backstory. This isn't the story. This is the story and I'll get a lawyer and I will prove that this is the real story. Okay? And you are completely entitled to that. Um, ask Ryland. I mean, that's all that happened. We did ask him. Okay. And you know what he told us? Do you want to know? Yeah, because I wasn't up. He told us that he heard his mom scream. I heard no screams at all. None. Why would he make that up? Ask him. Is he a liar? He has been known to tell them. Yes. Does he tell you on the regular that his mom screams in the bedroom? No. Has he ever told you that his mom screams and it was a lie? No. Not not screaming, but he lies about a bunch of other different things. You can ask his real father, and he'll tell you that, too. So, why on this date would he lie about his mom screaming in the bedroom? Notice how Keith's body language and tone shift when the detective starts pressing him harder. This is a classic interrogation tactic known as good cop, bad cop. used to see if a suspect will crack under pressure. You guys can try to pin whatever you want on me. She didn't scream. Listen, dude. Nobody's trying to pin anything on you. I'm just telling you what I heard, man. That's it. What I heard, what I seen. I mean, if you're trying to pin something on me, why would I have called 911? You have a conscience. That's why. You love your wife. That's why. So why would happens in the heat of the moment. You're not a bad person. You're not a monster. No. Um I would never do anything like that. Um accidents happen. I feel kind of offended. I feel offended too if we're going to go to that level. I feel really offended that you guys can try to pin an accident on me. No, no, no, no. I thought that's what you were getting at. Not at all. If an accident happened, we are more than willing to listen to them. But what I'm telling you is what you're conveying as the accident that happened isn't the accident that happened. If something else happened that was accidental, sure, we could lay that out and I would be happy to listen to it. I am not saying that you're I am not saying that you're a bad person. But what I am saying is with my training, my experience, and the crime scene, the accident that you're laying out isn't the one that happened. Well, that's what I seen when I came up. That's what I seen. No, it's hard. It's very hard. I I know it is. Okay. And uh I can't tell you something that I don't know. I'm not going to make up stuff. I just can't. Well, you can test me for gunpowder. Go ahead. I don't care. Do whatever test you need. I do not have nothing that I haven't told you. I haven't stepped out of my box and told you stuff. And that took a lot. In court, it only took the judge 3 hours to conclude that Keith had taken the life of his wife. He was ultimately sentenced to life in prison without parole. Now, we turn to a case where a divorce ended in the most tragic way imaginable. After 27 years of marriage, Kendy and Dan Howard had gone their separate ways, seemingly ready to move on with their lives until this happened. 911. What's the address? 911. My voice. What's the Tell me where you're at. Okay, take a deep breath for me. Take a deep breath. Come on. Come on. I need here. Okay. On February 2nd, 2021, a chilling 911 call came in from a man claiming his wife had taken her own life. But as officers arrived on the scene, they had no idea what truly awaited them. A horrific discovery that would only grow darker as the investigation unfolded. Wait with him. Get gloves. Sended medical. Yep. Central. No, no heartbeat. Not seeing anything. The footage you just saw captures the aftermath of Kendy Howard's tragic death. She and her husband Dan had spent more than half a lifetime trying to make their marriage work, but eventually they agreed divorce was the best path forward. For Kendi, it marked a fresh start. She was finally breaking free from Dan's controlling grip and had even rekindled a romance with her high school sweetheart. But just as she was stepping into the life she'd longed for, the tension between her and Dan was about to explode with deadly consequences. Dan claimed that Kendi had shot herself while taking a bath on the second floor. disturb your scene. Oh, please help. Hi guys. Huh? Excuse me. I honestly haven't seen it. Oh [Music] no. Please don't tell me it's going to go away. Hi sir. Good. How are you? Oh, please. Please. You hear anything? The officers noted that while Dan was outwardly emotional, raising his voice and appearing distressed, he didn't shed any visible tears. They also found his reaction unusual, especially considering his background as both a Marine and a longtime law enforcement officer. Meanwhile, in the bathroom, the officers confirmed that Kendi showed no signs of life. They quietly discussed how they were going to break the news to Dan. Zach. Yep. Do we given This is a different case. So given the circumstances of him and emotions and things like that, do we want to tell him? I don't think medical did medical tell him that she dead. I don't think so. Do we want to tell him or do we want to wait? We better tell him. Okay, I got it. Uh, actually, you know what? You haven't done all before I take pictures. Yeah. Okay. What's his name? Dan. Thank you. It's Dan. Hey, Dan. Hey, Dan. Dan. Hey, Dan. I'm Deputy Wheeler. I'm I'm sorry to inform you, but your wife is pastor. No. God damn it. [Music] Hey Dan, I got it. Hey Dan, is there anyone that we can call for you? Anyone that can take my Oh my god. Is there anyone we can call to give you some support or anything like that? Any family that um Dan, I know this is hard, but when when is the last time that you saw your wife alive? I know this is this is tough. I don't know. How long How long ago? Can you recall? No. Um, what time is it? Did you Did you call 911 when you when you heard the gunshot? No. Okay. I didn't Well, I Oh, no. Well, help us out with the time frame. All right. I didn't think it was a gunshot. I was downstairs going. It sound like something hit the floor or something. I don't know. When was when was the last time you saw your wife before she went to go take a bath? Hour and a half. Hour and a half. Hour and a half. Hour and a half or something. I don't know. I really don't know. I'm out of it. It's It's about 11:15. Maybe 9:30. 9:30 or so. I Okay. I don't know. I might be wrong. Oh my god. Despite Dan's attempts to claim innocence, officers were immediately suspicious. They were already aware of his volatile past where he had threatened a neighbor with a shotgun in 2013 after finding out that Kendi had an affair with him. During questioning in the kitchen, Dan tried to paint Kendi as irrational and emotionally unstable, insisting that she had threatened to harm herself on multiple occasions. Did you ever make any statements that made you concerned about her well-being? Yeah, about every day. Well, it's just she's so emotional. She tells, "Well, we we should split up." And I I agree with her and she'd go the other way. How long has this been going on? Was this hitch? Last hitch. We're pretty distant. You know, I knew something was up. But last month, yeah, whatever it turned out to be. Yeah. Pretty distant. Do you suspect she was cheating on you again? I asked her that I asked her that to give me closure cuz you know that would be it. She said she hadn't been. [Music] You believe it, man? Her behavior I I don't know. It just doesn't add up. Okay. What does it add up? She's behaving the same way she was before. And uh before we made a go. That was pretty good. And uh when she said she didn't want a divorce or she does want a divorce, it changed about every other day. Dan explained that his marriage to Kendi had become strained over time, partly due to their long-distance arrangement. He spent a big part of the year working at a bay in Alaska. Investigators later uncovered that Dan had a history of serious misconduct. After returning from his job at the bay in Alaska, he resigned from his position as a police officer, a role he had held for 19 years. He had been working with the Idaho State Police, but was ultimately fired after a search warrant was issued in connection to the incident with his neighbor. During the search, authorities discovered thousands of rounds of ammunition, all stolen from the department. Dan and Kendi had weathered many storms together, but now Kendi had made up her mind. She wanted a divorce. Dan claimed that on the night of the incident, he and Kendi had argued about how to divide the belongings inside the house. According to him, the reason she had the gun was because it was one of the items she insisted on keeping as part of the split. She went and and put earnest money on a house while I was up on the slope down there. Text me once she was going to go see an attorney. She saw that attorney a day before I got in and then she had those papers. She and I tried to talk her out of it. Let's talk first. Well, she didn't. And so since I've been here, we've been uh just going back and forth. You want to make it work? Okay, I'll encourage you to make it work. If you don't want to make it work, I'm encouraging to still make it work. I couldn't see throwing 27 years away. But then, you know, I'm the one that filled out the papers and I'll give her what she wants if that's she wants. Then she we'll do everything 50/50. Okay, that includes the flipping house down there. Wait. So, you're I mean, obviously you're you're wanting to make things work here and she's saying I'm trying to encourage her. She's telling you you're not hearing me. I want the house and change. Okay. I feel out of love, but breaks my heart. I'm hurting you. Yeah. and then she'll come back and go, "Well, I'm not sure if I want the divorce." Let that count. In front of the officers, Dan appeared unfased by the idea of splitting the couple's assets, which totaled around $2 million. But according to Kendy's friends and family, Dan had always been extremely money focused, often obsessing over even the smallest expenses, sometimes confronting Kendi over purchases as minor as $10. This contradiction raised further suspicions among the officers and tensions escalated when Dan received a phone call from his stepdaughter who was screaming at him. The emotional outburst gave the officers another opportunity to press Dan for the truth. You told me your wife. I have no idea cuz I got to tell you that phone call put chills down my [Music] spine people. You did it, didn't you, Dan? No, I didn't. I didn't think so. But now after listening that I think you did, didn't you? How the hell? How the hell? She doesn't know. She wasn't here. She knows what she knows that there's a divorce going on. What does she know? She knows something. She wouldn't have reacted the way she did. Well, I don't know what it is. Mother, she obviously had concerns if that was her knee-jerk. Okay. Well, you understand where we're coming from. What the Cuz I talked to my daughter about that. [Music] Understand? You think Do you think all you want? I think you did. No, I didn't. The autopsy report revealed that Kendi had fought desperately to survive. She suffered a broken jaw, extensive bruising across her body, lacerations on her feet, and even a secondderee burn on her arm. What raised even more suspicion was the trajectory of the bullet. The projectile was angled downward, which contradicted the typical pattern of a self-inflicted gunshot, usually fired horizontally or upward. In March 2024, Dan Howard was convicted of seconddegree murder and domestic battery. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Moving on to the case where what began with a forgotten lunch, a silent phone, and an unfamiliar car in the driveway ended in a double homicide and a truth darker than anyone could have ever imagined. Can you come down with me? Still breathing. Still breathing. I don't know what happened. Everything happened so fast. He sort of stuck here I think when they shot him and he asked me help to shoot him too because on the morning of February 24th 2023 in the quiet suburb of Hearnden Virginia everything seemed ordinary. The Banfield household a picture perfect family home with white pillars was starting another day. Inside lived Brendan Banfield, a special crime forces officer, his wife Christine, a highly respected nurse, their four-year-old daughter, and their live-in opair, Juliana Paris Magalo. But under the surface, something sinister was already in motion. Good. Still breathing. Fine. Still breathing. Still breathing. [Applause] Hey. Hey. want me to play her to watch the show or something. Uh, if you just want to tell me quickly what happened if I don't really know what happened. Everything happened too fast. I was going to take her to the zoo this morning. Can you go with Officer Batani really quick? Why don't you go with us? He has some stickers for you. I was going to take her to the zoo this morning and then I forgot the long we're going to pay. I turn around and came back here and then um I saw this car. Are they both inside? They're both inside. Person, I guess. You don't know who that Do you know who the person is? I have no idea. And then I saw his car. I called her to see what's going on because in the morning like the And then he was trying to voicemail. I called Brandon. It's her husband. He's over there. I go him. I I see a strange car, but I don't know who is that. Can you please come in here? I'm scared. I was just following the car. And then that morning, Juliana had taken the young daughter to the zoo. But shortly after leaving, she returned, saying she had forgotten the child's packed lunch. When she got back, something felt wrong. An unfamiliar car was parked in the driveway. Brendan had left for work early that morning, and Christine was the only one who was supposed to be at the house. To make matters worse, she wasn't answering her phone. Panicked, Juliana called Brendan. He raced home. According to both of them, they entered the house together. What they said they found upstairs would set off a chain reaction of horror. At 7:49 a.m., 911 received a call from Brendan Banfield. In the background, the Opair could be heard. The call was frantic. Brendan reported a man in their bedroom with his wife, Joseph Ryan, 39 years old. He claimed Ryan had stabbed Christine and was still attacking her when Brendan drew his firearm and opened fire. Juliana too allegedly fired a gun, but still unknown to the officers. By the time officers arrived, Joseph Ryan was deceased after taking a bullet in the head and the final one in the chest, fired by Juliana. Christine was barely alive, suffering from multiple wounds. Hey Paul or [Applause] [Music] Jose somebody's outside in the back in the back. There's a dog in the back. Anybody else outside? Huh? Who else is outside? Oh, nobody's outside. In my room in here. Bam. Stay here. Stay here. Stay here. Who is the shooter? Who shot who? I got a blowout, kid, if you need it. Bring it up. Okay. Yeah, if you want. Oh, I'll hold down here. Okay. Bring her bring her down here and we can get info directly from her. [Applause] Hey, can you come down with me? Blow up here. She's she Juliana was visibly shaken. To the first responders, it looked like a chaotic domestic nightmare, but something far more disturbing was hiding under the surface, making it hard for Juliana to keep a straight face when speaking to the officers. He he he came here and then we went inside. He the guy, I don't know who it is, he was spanking her doing I was just here. Were you here when it happened or did you walk up in there and how they were? Yeah, he went upstairs first and then I went to see what is going on. I left the basement and then when I went up the stairs he Brendon was saying who is Drop Drop the knife. Dropped the knife. So Brynden's a police officer. Yeah, he's an officer. Is he with Fairfax? No. Where's he an officer? I don't know. I think it's I don't know. I think it's he was offici Vienna. Yeah. Joseph Ryan was a 39-year-old man who by his friends was described as a calm man with some fetishes in the bedroom. Those fetishes were some that came to life when he used the website fetlife.com to connect with people with the same fetishes as himself. On the website, he went under the name Taco Supreme 7000 and connected with Anastasia 9. The two had a dialogue going on for some time and decided to meet up in the morning of February 24th to do their things. In the profile picture was Christine. It was later clarified that Christine was definitely not the creator nor the user of the account. At the scene, Juliana kept acting like she had no idea how this happened. Do you need anything else right now? Not right now. The the guy who shot is a they think of Vienna police officer. So, we got to think about that. That car, we don't know who that's the guy who came up here that started the issue. This car is the outside guy, the silver car. These two. So this is their car. That is the guy who came here. Okay. Um [Applause] then it was two because they were yelling each other. He was saying like drop drop the the I'm sorry. My first thing was just on No, no, no. You're doing really well. Um he was saying drop drop the Oh, the knife or the gun? The gun. And B said no. Police on drop the knife. And he was I'm going to kill her. I'm going to kill her. And I don't know why he he stabbed her from he stabbing her. Bren I think shot him and he asked me help to show him too because it's okay. You don't have to get it all out right now. I never saw her before. Like you didn't see the girl before either. So the guy and the girl you don't know. She's my boss. Okay. He's Valerisma. But I never before like a lot of fun. Okay. Christine was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced deceased. The officers had a hard time figuring the puzzle of this incident, but detectives eventually found out that Brendan and Juliana had an affair ongoing for several months up to this incident and even went on getaway weekends just the two of them. To make a sick story even more sickening, it was confirmed that Brendan Banfield was behind the fake profile of his wife on the fetish website, posing as her to lure Joseph Ryan to their home for a staged sexual encounter. Juliana, the Opair, played the part online, posing as Christine to convince Ryan to come over. Texts revealed that Ryan believed he was engaging in consensual sex. He had no idea he was walking into a trap that would end his life. Investigators unearthed a monthslong affair between Brendan and Juliana. The motive began to crystallize. They wanted Christine gone. With the false narrative of self-defense unraveling, the truth came into focus. Brendan and Juliana lured Ryan to the house under false pretenses, planning to murder him and make it look like he had attacked Christine. They stabbed Christine, then fired bullets at Ryan to complete the illusion of a home invasion gone wrong. It was staged. It was premeditated, and it was cruel. In September 2024, police arrested Brendan Banfield and charged him with multiple counts, including aggravated murder. His trial is set for February 2025. Juliana, once playing the innocent Opair, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in October 2024 as part of a plea deal. In exchange for her testimony against Brendan, prosecutors offered a reduced sentence. Her sentencing was recently delayed, but she may receive time served, depending on her cooperation. What looked like a case of violent intrusion turned out to be a carefully planned murder. A husband and his mistress plotted the death of an innocent woman and an unsuspecting man, then attempted to spin a lie so compelling that for a moment the world believed them. Now, to the tragic case of a husband who ended his wife's life on what was supposed to be the most romantic day of the year. What happened? We we you we had a disagreement and I say I just want a divorce. I took it when you grabbed it and went off. I She yanked. I grabbed it and she yanked back and the gun went off. Okay. In the early morning hours of February 14th, 2019, Olivia Jones was seen at a local supermarket picking up groceries for a Valentine's Day dinner with her husband, Chris Jones. She bought herself a bouquet of red and pink flowers before heading home. What she didn't know was that just 40 minutes after leaving the store, she would be dead. A tragic ending born from toxic love. Authorities found Olivia lying on the bedroom floor of her home in a quiet neighborhood in Bonham, Texas. 11 minutes prior to the discovery, they'd received a call from Chris. Call on 911. What is the address of your emergency? Olivia, please hurry. Hurry, hurry. So I can take the gun. Tell me what's going on. I'm at home. Please. Somebody [ __ ] in the head. My wife. Please. Please. Please tell me where is she? In the head. Okay. Where in the head? And it went off. Okay. Okay. I want you to try to control the bleeding. As soon as the call ended, officers rushed to the scene. The responding officer, Officer Butler, knew both Chris and Olivia personally and was close with them. His body cam was recording as Chris urged them to come inside the house. Where's the gun? Invisible broken down on the dress. Come this way. Okay. Please come this way. This way. This way. Okay. Please. The officers made their way to the bedroom where they found Olivia on the floor. Sir. Okay. Step back. Step back. Mr. Get his mom. Olivia was found face down and incredibly still breathing despite having been shot in the head. Paramedics arrived quickly and began treating her while police worked to secure the scene. Officer Butler then had Chris walk him through the events leading up to the What happened? We we we had a disagreement and we I say, "Baby, if you're not working with me, you're working together." I say, "We've been doing this." My 19-year-old stepdaughter was eight, my 11-year-old was one. I said, "Olivia, if we can't get it together, we can't be together. Okay, we we got several, but we" And I say, "I just want a divorce." And her reaction was, she got the gun. I said, "Give me the gun." She like, I don't remember which hand. I'm like, "Give me that gun. What is you doing? Stop trying to scare me." Uhhuh. I took it when you grabbed it and went off. I She yanked. I grabbed it and she yanked back. The gun went off. Okay. The gun went off. Chris's story immediately raised red flags. How could a man his size be overpowered by his significantly smaller wife? At one point, he dropped to his knees in apparent anguish, but there were no visible tears when he asked Officer Butler if he could go check on Olivia. Mr. Butler, God help. No, no, no. You don't need to go in there. Okay. Is she alive? Yeah, she is. She is. We got him. We Is she alive, Mr. Butler? Please don't, please don't tell me she alive and she not. Yeah. When I saw her, she was She was talking. She wasn't talking. Is she breathing? It looked like she was breathing. Like, don't go in there, sir. Sir, I need you to stay right here with me, okay? And calm down. Calm down. When Chris was told that Olivia was still alive, his reaction showed no relief or happiness. Another red flag for Officer Butler. Back inside the home, Olivia's wounds were so fatal that she sadly passed away a few minutes after the paramedics arrived. The officers searched the house and noticed surveillance cameras installed around the house, both inside and outside. They also found the gun that Olivia was shot with. However, they found it strange that the gun was in another room that Olivia was shot in. If Olivia was holding the gun, how would it end up in another room? The only logical answer would be that Chris had moved it. Following this discovery, the officers decided to detain Chris and escorted him to the back of the police cruiser. A detective and a sergeant arrived at the scene to begin the investigation. According to him, she grabs a dime elevator in their bedroom. She did that. He claims he reached for the gun to try to get in front of her. And when he reached for it and they struggle over it, boom. Chris was brought down to the station where they took pictures of his hands still covered in blood. Soon, Chris was taken into an interrogation room where two detectives would question him. Starting off by asking him what caused the argument. He said that he felt as if Olivia wasn't pulling her weight in the relationship. I am very particular. Mhm. If you heard that, that's true. I am very particular. You strive for the best for people. I work really hard and I I I don't make excuses for myself and I don't set up excuses for anybody else. After telling Olivia he wanted a divorce, she went to the bedroom and grabbed the gun. What did you say? Really? You serious? Really? This is not going to solve anything. Okay. You know this is not You do not want to do that. Put that freaking gun down before you make a mistake and hurt yourself. She was crying. She was crying. Chris handed over his cell phone which had access to the surveillance footage from inside the house. Say if you want to access just that camera, you touch that and that's just that camera. Okay. You understand? So far, let's go back to devices. Yes, sir. And everything is labeled carport, backyard, front door, back door, laundry room, side garage, living room, kitchen. Police reviewed the surveillance footage, hoping it would support Chris's version of events. At 8:41 a.m., Olivia is seen going through her morning routine in the kitchen. Then, suddenly, the video cuts out. 3 minutes later at 8:44 a.m. the footage resumes showing Chris pacing frantically and dialing 911. At 8:55 a.m. the responding officers are seen entering the living room. This timeline suggested that Olivia must have been shot during the unexplained 3minute gap. In the interrogation room, detectives asked Chris the obvious question. Why was that footage missing? We're still trying to pull up these videos here. Okay. Why would there be no recorders doing that? I don't know. It should be. Everybody that went in that house should be on there. But like I said, the internet, you can go through days and it's going to get pretty much done. We shouldn't have bought that. Just keep like you can pick whatever day you want and it's never going to be consistent. That's why I say it was a waste of money. Well, I you know, I'm I'm wanting desperately to find some video on here that cooperates what you're what you're telling us, but almost all the videos start right after this event happened. Chris offered a string of excuses for the missing footage, blaming everything from internet issues to uncharged cameras. But by this point, detectives were skeptical of everything he said. The fact that Chris was the only person with access to the system made it far more likely that he had deleted the footage himself. Since they couldn't rely on the video, they asked Chris to physically reenact the moment he claimed he tried to disarm Olivia. Now go ahead and do the my Give me the go. I'm good. No, you're good. The chair. I'm sorry. You're fine. The chair, man. I'm reliving it. You are. I'm reliving it. So, she should be shot in the back of her right head. I did. Did you feel me twist your Did you feel me twist? Did you feel me twist your twisted? With each question, it felt like Chris was making up answers on the spot, trying to force the pieces of the puzzle to fit rather than telling the truth. The detectives suspicions deepened, and they were only reinforced after speaking with Olivia's sister, Angela, and Chris's former lover, Leticia. Though interviewed separately, both described Chris as aggressive and controlling. Even Olivia's oldest daughter shared a chilling memory. She once overheard a fight where her mother screamed that she couldn't breathe. In the days that followed, the girl noticed bruises all over her mother's body. The evidence against Chris was piling up. And now the officers pressed him again. What happened to the missing footage? To be honest, I think I look guilty leaving those vehicles. I'm I look guilty. Not if you not if you say right now. What What did you just say a little while ago? I freaked out. I panic. I did some stuff I shouldn't have done. Is that one of them? Yes. How many did you delete? I don't know. Okay. I'm just afraid of being blamed for something. I did do something that looks really bad. The confession was a major breakthrough for the investigators. And as the case unfolded, even more evidence began to point toward Chris. In April 2019, he was officially charged with firstdegree murder and seconddegree manslaughter. But in a surprising turn, just 24 hours after being charged, Chris was released on a $150,000 bond and placed under house arrest with a GPS monitor. The decision sparked outrage both among the community, but also in Olivia's grieving family. When the case finally went to trial, Chris was sentenced to 30 years in prison for taking his wife's life. Moving on to the case of Marak Heeko, the man who turned himself in in the most ridiculous way after taking an innocent stranger's life. No, I know what happened. I know the people they involved. So, I just know did some guy come here. Yeah. And he up some guy. I don't know what happened. Right. I don't know what happened. He just on July 25th, 2022, officers responded to a household in Chelmsford following a serious assault where the victim sadly passed away. A female officer was standing outside the house when a young man came across. Who are you looking for? I'm looking for a I can help her. What's going on? Uniform one night. Yeah, I can help her. What's going on? Yeah. He approached the scene and claimed that he could help the officers with the investigation. No, I know what happened. I know the people they involved. So, go again. But I need to dig deep, you know. Thank you. What's your name? I'm not going to tell you my name. I don't give a Because I know what happened and you need me to know figure it out what happened. If you don't have me, you don't know what happened. He continued by giving specific details about the victim. details he'd only know if he was the suspect. I just know that some guy come here. Yeah. Then he up some guy. I don't know what happened. Right. I don't know what happened. He just got Merrick was already highly intoxicated, but as he continued drinking of the bottle, he got drunker by the minute and with that also more aggressive toward the female officer. You're going to think about me, but it's not going to be me because he has no proof. So, so you think something's happened to a male in this address? No, I know what happened. What happened then? Tell me what happened. This city is mine. I'm not going to This city is yours, is it? Yeah, this city is mine. The officer called for backup and Merrick was arrested. Van, please. You've been arrested. Okay, we're trying. I've been arrested. We're trying not trying not to manhandle you, but we need you to get in the van. While Heko was in custody, he became the main suspect of the 44year-old husband who was deceased. Just 3 days later, Heko was sentenced to life in prison for murder.
