Someone died. This isn't a game. This is like a big deal. Like, someone lost their life, dude. >> This mother had just learned the devastating truth. Her 14-year-old son was involved in a gang responsible for taking the life of an innocent woman. But she's not the only parent who's been forced to face the darkest, most disturbing side of their child. >> Parents have some concerns of some stuff they may have found in your room. >> Yeah, I believe so. >> And what would it be? >> A human head and hands. >> Like for real human head and hands? >> Yes. had a bad feeling about what happened this weekend. She said, "There's a bag in this closet." And she opened it up. >> Yeah, >> this is him. I was straddled on top of him like this. >> Okay. >> And uh he couldn't fight back. It was actually surprisingly easy. I was barely breaking a sweat. I thought, "Oh, this guy, he's going to be tough." >> These were the moments when parents discovered their kid was a killer. Starting off with the case of Remy Cordova, the teen whose interest didn't include peaceful things like Fortnite or football. >> I'm sorry. He asked the person in the driver's seat if he could shoot him and he got done and started shooting her. >> She took four photographs to the face. >> Is she the only victim? >> She's the only victim. >> I didn't know someone got killed. >> Well, but he fired a AR into a car. What do you think was going to happen? On February 21st, 2021, police responded to a tragic scene on Interstate 25 in Denver, Colorado. A mother of a young child was found fighting for her life after becoming the innocent target of a teenager desperate to earn status in the gang world. Between 15 and 20 shots had been fired, and a black Honda was seen speeding away from the scene. I'm going to crack your seat belt. Okay. I'm Officer Leer with the Denver Police Department. Okay. 13 battle shut down. >> Upon discovering the gruesome scene, an officer immediately tried to apply pressure to the most severe wounds in a desperate attempt to save the woman's life, but it was no use. She had suffered multiple injuries both to her face and body. >> I'm just going to keep some pressure on it. Okay. She took quite a few hits about four or five. Is she the only victim? >> She's the only victim. She >> The officers moved quickly, searching for an ID to begin piecing together who she was and what could have driven someone to launch such a brutal and sudden attack. >> Find an ID in her purse. >> Yeah. I don't know how you want to do this. You want to put the seat back. >> What's your name? Can you tell me your name? [Applause] >> Hey, Scott. >> Is there anything behind the seat? >> Electric. Hang on. I got it. >> At this point, it was clear they were dealing with a ruthless suspect who most likely was already far gone. The officers pressed on, carefully counting the shots that had been fired, hoping it might offer some clue into what had unfolded. >> All right, just about ready. >> I counted eight. >> Eight. >> Yeah, there's one right above the left windshield wiper. So, that's two out of like right there. >> Probably. >> That's the same one as the on the back. >> Okay, that's probably >> However, the officers still hadn't found anything that revealed the victim's identity, but that was about to change. might be a Pamela. >> Yeah, I'm trying to find an ID. >> Is there more than anybody else? >> No, it's just one person. Could you hold that open while I look for you, please? >> The victim was 32-year-old Pamela Cabriales, a real estate agent and devoted single mom to her six-year-old son, Leo. That night, she was simply heading home after dinner with a friend. She had no criminal record, no ties to gangs, just a hardworking woman living her life. But everything changed in an instant. Pamela was ambushed and critically injured in a random senseless attack. She fought for her life in the hospital for 4 days, but the injuries were too severe she didn't make it. Later the same day of the shoot, another violent incident shook the city of Denver, Colorado. This time at a McDonald's, involving a group of teenagers. Witnesses described the suspects fleeing in a black Honda. That detail immediately stood out to officers because a black Honda had also been seen at the scene of Pamela's shing. Police acted fast. Three teenagers were arrested in connection with the McDonald's attack. And now investigators had a pressing question. Could these same teens be behind Pamela's murder, too? One of the suspects was 14-year-old Remy Cordova. Because of his age, he couldn't be questioned without a parent present. So, when the interview began, his mother sat beside him, unaware that she was about to learn her son may have played a role in one of the city's most horrifying crimes. From the moment the interview started, you could see her world falling apart. >> I'm going to advise you of your rights. and then I'm going to leave the room and um you two need to talk about whether or not you want to you want to talk about this investigation or not. Okay. >> When the officer returned, the mood in the room changed as the mother was desperately trying to cut off her son before he said anything that could be an admission of guilt. >> I don't so totally different. Yeah. Are you guys done talking? >> Yeah. >> I'm going to turn the video back on. Okay. Yes, sir. >> Do you have my phone number? >> It quickly became clear the mother understood Remy was involved. Remy gave no explanations, no denials, only a swift signature on the refusal form, meaning that the interview was over. >> It's 10:07 p.m. I'm sorry. >> At this point, Remy was still denying any involvement. But when another suspect known only as white guy was brought into the interrogation room, the detectives finally got something to work with. >> Uh just kind of run me through when I mention this uh this location. Do you know what I'm talking about at KFax and I25 tonight or what happened last night? Can you take me through that just from the beginning there? Who you were with? What was going on? was with my friends. >> We was driving right down our 25, whatever. And then we stopped and then the car hit us in the back, smacked us, and my friend in the front, he asked the person in the driver's seat if he could. And he hopped down and started shoot. >> Okay. >> The driver was 18-year-old Nishan Johnson and in the front passenger seat was Remy. Investigators believe that Remy had given the order to Pamela and Neon was the one who carried it out, but there was still much more to uncover. >> I didn't hear you quite. So, if I have this wrong, correct me. You said you were stopped at a light. >> We were stopped at a light and someone came from behind us and smacked us with their car. >> Okay. >> And then that's when my friend and the passenger asked the person in the driver if he can shoot him. And then the person in the driver said yes. And then he hopped out the street and then he drove off. >> Okay. How many people were in the car with you? >> Two. >> So there was how many total including yourself? >> Two. >> Three. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Where were you seated? >> I was in the back seat. >> Okay. Who was driving? >> My friend's friend. >> Okay. Do you know his name? Do you know what he looks like? >> Yes or no? >> Yes. >> If you saw a photo of him, do you think you could ID him? >> Yep. >> Okay. Can you tell me if he was black, white, Hispanic? >> Black. >> Okay. About how old was he? >> 19. >> Okay. Anything identifying about him? Scars, marks, tattoos, facial hair, piercings? >> Right here. >> Okay. What was that? He has a big ass tattoo right here. >> Big ass tattoo right there. >> Yes. >> The detective then tried to lay out the conversation step by step to untangle what had really happened. >> So the car behind you guys smacked into you. >> Yes. >> Your friend Remy asked the driver if he could shoot this person. >> Yes. >> Why? >> I don't know. He just asked him and he said yes. >> Okay. >> And when he started letting off, I told him to get back in the car. >> Okay. Tell me more about when Remy gets out of the car. >> He pulls the chop out and then at first it was he said he was on safety so he flicked it off of safety and then >> it wasn't Remy though. That >> that's Loraca. >> Okay. I'm confused. Okay. >> Okay. So, you say the chop. I know what that is. Aaron, your mom may know what that is. People watching this later on may not know what that is. What is a chop? >> AR-15. >> AR-15. Yes. Okay. What color was that? >> Black. >> Black. >> Okay. >> So, you're saying that the other kid asked Remy to Is that what you're saying? >> No. Remy asked the other kid if he can. And then Remy hopped out. >> At any time did you get out of the car? >> No. I told him to get back in the car. >> Okay. And what does he do? Tell me more about that. >> He just kept and then he finally got back in. >> Okay. Yelling at his >> Okay. How many times did he shoot? >> He lit up like seven rounds. >> Okay. Did anybody pick up anything there on the street? Did you Did anybody pick up anything? Did anything fall? Phone, bullets, anything from the car fall out of the car that anybody picked up? >> I don't know. >> Okay. Do you remember what kind of car smacked into the back of you guys? >> It was like this white car. >> White car? Yeah, it was a white van. >> Oh, >> like a white van. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> At this point, a new detail had surfaced. Remy had asked for permission to the driver of the other car and then performed the attack himself with an AR-15. White guy then told detectives that he fell asleep while they sped off from the scene, but was woken up to being yelled at. >> Remy was like, "Bro, the cops are chasing us. They're behind us, bro. They're behind us." And then I woken up and I was sleeping in the back and I was like, "What?" And I look behind us and the cop is right behind us following us. And then the the driver starts going fast and then the cop turns the lights on and then we go down this one street and we hit a big pothole and then that's when the car went up and then he lost control and then I just I don't even remember. All I know is I just got out the car. >> Okay. What did you do when you got out of the car? I >> started walking up the block. >> Did you walk or run? And if he ran, that's okay. >> I started walking. The other two me, he was running. I was just I was just jogging. I was like, >> "Okay, >> because like I didn't like I didn't know he like did something. I don't know he did something like >> Well, hold on a minute. >> Like I didn't know like something that bad happened. I didn't know someone got Well, >> but he fired an AR into a car. What do you think was going to happen? >> I don't know. >> Okay, fair enough. >> He said he said he was trying to aim towards the engine. Okay, tell me more about that. When when was that discussion? >> That was after >> Okay, tell me about that. >> That was like when we was going down Kofax. >> Okay. >> He was just like he was like I was trying to hit the engine. >> Who was saying that? >> Remy. >> Did he know that he hit the person in the car? >> Oh, no. >> That's what he was asking me. What was the discussion after it happened? >> I don't think he even knew he killed Buddy, >> but he said I I was trying to hit the engine. So, what does that mean? >> He was trying to blow up the car. >> New details began to emerge, like claims that Remy had tried to blow up the car bying at the engine, but that didn't match what officers found at the scene. As the interrogation went on, the reality of what white guy had been part of started to hit him. That's when his mom and stepdad stepped in with some tough love. >> Now, now you're going to end up doing time over someone else's boy. I'm going to do a time over someone. Someone died. This isn't This isn't It doesn't matter what you know or what you think you didn't know. Someone last night. Someone This isn't a game. This is like a big deal. This isn't like, oh, you stole a car and didn't go to school. Like, someone lost their life, dude. behind somebody's dumb that you was in the car with riding around thinking that this is hot. >> He He obviously doesn't give a [ __ ] about anything. His life, his kids' life, anybody's life apparently. And you're hanging out with him. Do you think he gives a Obviously not. He This cop don't know if you you touched that gun or not. The detective then brought his agame, confronting the teen with some alarming information, details that helped unravel what had really happened that night. >> This next question is important. Okay. >> All right. >> I'm going to ask you this. Be honest with me. >> Did you? >> No. >> Okay. And I'm asking you that because >> Did I say hi to you? >> Someone independent said they saw you. They describe you to a tea and what you're wearing that you were the >> I promise I was not. >> Okay. Well, I promise I ain't gonna cut it. >> I was I wasn't this me up. That was >> Okay. So, again, when I swap for DNA, am I going to find your DNA on that trigger guard on that rifle on that AR-15? Am I going to find your DNA? >> Probably cuz I moved it. Yeah. >> Someone said it was me. Yes. >> Yes. >> I'm going step over here real quick. >> Okay. >> Someone said it was me. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> I know I did. >> I know for a fact I did. >> Help me explain why I should believe you. >> You don't have to believe you, but >> No, he has to believe you, dog. That's the thing. >> All right. Like I like look listen listen to me. >> I know I didn't that gun. I know I didn't because he even asked where Sonic if he can before he even shot the gun and popped out. >> The detective continued to press the teen when he decided it was time to come clean. >> All those times. How many times after that have you fallen asleep? Cuz you know how many people sat in that chair and told me the same thing you're telling me? Cuz I don't believe you. >> Okay. >> I never felt like I really fell asleep. >> Well, I find it hard to believe you just >> at his auntie's house. I really fell asleep. I was like I was just laying down in the back with a blanket sling. >> So you've just witnessed a turn into a homicide. You're going to tell me now you fall asleep. >> I know you didn't. But my point is somebody with an AR-15 a high power rifle and you're telling me >> within an hour after within 30 minutes you you fall asleep. >> I really did fall asleep for real. I really like for real like >> I really did fall asleep in the back. >> And then they woke me up saying the cops behind us >> Remy and Rashan. Did you ask him to stop? >> Huh? >> Did you ask that? >> Yes. I was like, "Bro, why are you going so fast?" He was just going fast. >> Tell me more about that. >> And he's just going fast. And he just smacking everything in his way. And then we get to this one the main street and we go down. It's a hill. Boom. Pothole. Flip up. I hit my head. And then I don't remember. I just hopped out. Okay. >> Like all I know is I just started like flying around in the car, hitting my head on everything. >> All right. If you've done nothing wrong, just explain to me the best you can, why do you leave? Why do you walk off? Why don't you stay outside the car when the police show up? Why do you walk off? >> Cuz I thought I was going to get in trouble for the guns. The gun was right next to me. >> Okay. >> The AR-15 was on the left of me. Like I told you, he reb put it in the back and then that's when I moved it over to the left of me. So, I was not trying to get in trouble for two guns that was in the car and they was going to leave me. >> Okay. >> They was going to leave me. They already ran. >> Okay. How about any casings? Any live rounds did you pick up or have on your person or in your position? >> I found some 22s on the floor and I picked them up and put in my pocket. >> Tell me more about that. >> That's it. Just I found some. >> Okay. What' you do with them? >> I put them in my pocket. >> Then what' you do with them? >> Nothing. They were just in my pocket. >> Okay. Did you ever see the driver who you're calling Ran? Did you ever see him with any ammunition or any spent shell casings? You know what spent shell casings are? >> Like after you done >> Mhm. >> Uh I think I had the 223s. >> Huh? >> They had the 223s from the AR-15. >> Who did? >> Ran all through the car and I guess some of them landed on him. >> Okay. >> Did you have any? Uhuh. Okay. Why would he say that you had them and you dropped them? >> He said I had them. >> Yes. >> He's lying. I never had that. >> Okay. >> I never had no shell casing that was empty. >> Okay. >> I only had those little 22s that I got. >> Due to the severity of the crime and Remy Cordova's criminal history, the 14-year-old was tried as an adult and convicted of first-degree murder in the shooting death of Pamela Cabriales. He was later sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 40 years. Neshan Johnson was sentenced to 35 years after being found guilty of seconddegree murder, attempted manslaughter, attempted assault, vehicular eluding, and acting as an accessory to a crime. The third passenger in the car was not charged in connection with Pamela's murder. Moving on to the case where these parents were faced with an unthinkable truth. Their son had taken the life of his partner, the mother of their one-year-old grandchild, who was also missing. >> We know where Christine is. >> Do you know where Christine is? >> Yes. >> Oh, you got her? >> Yes. >> Well, you want to hold the baby? >> Uh, Christine's dead. >> No, no, no. [Music] >> Looking for >> yourself to shine a light on our situation that we're working with right now. Joseé Morales and Christine Holloway had been together for about a year and a half when their daughter Vanessa was born in September 2018. But behind the scenes, Jose had a troubling past. He was known for using drugs, especially PCP, and had a long history of violence and run-ins with the law. By late 2019, Christine had had enough. The constant chaos was wearing on her, and she was ready to end things. On November 23rd, after yet another argument, the two exchanged angry text messages. Oddly enough, just days later, they still spent Thanksgiving together with family. But on Sunday, December 1st, everything changed. That day, Jose called 911, saying he was high and had seen two men outside. He abruptly ended the call when Christine walked by. After that, no one heard from her. Later that evening, when family members couldn't get in touch with her, police entered her apartment and found Christine deceased in the bathroom. That itself was haunting. But then they realized that her daughter Vanessa was missing. 2 days later, officers arrived at Jose's parents house where Jose was staying to break the news. Christine was dead and their one-year-old granddaughter had disappeared. >> We know where Christine is. >> Do you know where Christine is? >> Yes. >> Oh, you guys? >> Yes. >> Well, you want to hold the baby? >> Uh, Christine's go don't go. What happened to her? >> We're looking for >> your son to to shine a light on our situation that we're working with right now. >> We're investigating. So, I'll let you know this. It's a homicide. [Applause] >> Oh my god. >> We are looking for all the help we can get. Will you follow her? Will you follow? >> She's at her she's at her apartment. [Applause] >> Oh my god. Oh my god. >> But we we can't find the car that he says she's always driving. >> But we find we know where the car is that you say that she's driving. >> They know why. >> Yeah. >> What's up? >> When I asked you about her buying a new car, you said you knew nothing about it. >> No, I knew about it. Well, why did you say you didn't know anything about it? >> I know about it. >> First time. >> Well, she bought a car. She bought She bought a car. >> No, Jose. Where you today, >> Jose? We also just took your car. >> The car is gone. >> Yep. >> I don't know. I don't know. But you want me to come up with an idea, bring something up? >> What you want me to do? >> What you want me to say to just invent a situation? From the moment officers spoke with Jose and his parents, something felt off. Jose seemed out of it, possibly under the influence of drugs again. But things took a turn when officers confronted him with a key piece of evidence, surveillance footage showing him leaving Christine's apartment on Monday, the day after she had died. >> I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. You guys have to break the door in there to get in. >> You broke the door to get in. Why don't you tell us the story if you want to say something to your mother? >> I don't know how you got >> was in her house one day. >> I don't know. >> What you mean you don't know? >> She wasn't there. >> Well, you were there. >> I was at I was at Hector >> when >> How is he How does he not know where he was yesterday? It's not even 24 hours later. How does he not know that? >> I say I was at my boy Hector. No, you weren't cuz you were leaving the house at 1:49. >> We have him on video leaving the house and we also have a witness saying he was there >> today on Monday. >> Monday to tell you can invent a scenario. >> What happened to >> invent something? You want me to come up with ideas and and give you information that I don't know? >> That's all you want. That's why you guys ask me. >> No, no, no. I mean you you can do whatever you want. You can >> there is nothing that I can tell you. I don't know. >> Say you have to >> what information you want. >> Obviously something did happen. >> Were they in a serious relationship? >> Huh? >> Were they in a serious relationship? >> Yeah. >> Well, he said it was >> Oh, it wasn't a serious relationship. >> He's going to say you were >> I was at I was at >> on Monday. >> I was with him >> on Monday. >> The weekend. The weekend. on Monday. >> But you just said you were with Hector on Monday. You said I don't remember what I was doing on Monday. >> I was with Hector the weekend. The weekend. >> What about Monday? >> They asking about Monday. >> Listen, you don't have to answer. You can do whatever you want. You can leave. >> I don't I I'm not clearminded person. >> Okay. I can I can understand that. You have a lot of stress in your life. >> Yeah. I have no job. >> Okay. So, you >> I'm broke. I live with my parents >> and you got three kids and you're trying to support the three kids. >> I can't. >> Yeah. It's It's not easy. That is not easy. Yeah. And And you should be the one supporting your parents, but you can't right now cuz it's that that's how hard it is. You just lo lost your job a few months ago. I understand all that. You know, that's that puts people in the wrong set of the wrong mindset. You know, it's not >> No, it does. >> It does. Yeah, it does. But >> sometimes you don't think clearly about things. >> Exactly. >> Right. You know, and >> No, I FaceTime you from Hector House. Make you believe that I was with her. >> Did you see her? Did you see anything in the back when you saw my face on FaceTime? I was making you believe that I was at Christine, but cuz I didn't want you to think that I'm out with my friend party. >> So, who were you facetiming with? What phone were you facetiming with? >> Wait, Hector's Do you have your phone? >> Yeah. >> All right. So then you should have Hector's uh contact. >> No, no, no. >> You should have Hector's contact, right? >> No, no, no, no. We're FaceTime with the >> Whoops. Is >> that iPad? >> Yeah, I downstairs. But how was he? So he was facetiming from the house here. >> No, no. He think he thinking when when he go uh to Christ. >> But that's not Hector's number. >> No, not Hector. I was FaceTiming my mom. >> With Hector's phone, you said. >> No, no, not with his phone. With my iPad. >> During a second round of questioning at Jose's mother's house that night. He denied having anything to do with Christine's death and said he did not know where Vanessa was. A few days later, Jose was brought in for a formal interview at the police station. He walked in freely to help the investigation. What happened to Christine and where's your daughter were just two of the many questions detectives were determined to get answers to. >> All right. What was that? What's your last name? Morales. >> Yeah. >> Even though the door is kind of closed. I mean, you're free to leave. We brought you here to talk to you. I understand you're >> I'm free to leave. >> What am I going to walk all the way home? >> No, we'll give you a wreck. >> I'm just saying you're not held captive here. Not like you're not. >> So why you what I came here for? >> To talk to you >> about what? >> We're trying to find Christine or your kid. >> All right. We That's That's exactly what I've been trying to I've been trying to call her, too. >> Okay. >> All right. >> All right. So, >> we're in the same page. >> Okay. Good. It's I'd rather have it that way. >> When's the last time you talked to her? I talked to her I think was Monday morning when she was going over. >> So that was yesterday morning. Monday >> about what time? >> Early in the morning. >> Okay. So that was talking on the phone or in person face to on the phone. >> Did she say anything? Was there a problem? Was there any kind of issue? >> No. No argue. Did you hear anything in the background? >> Nothing. >> She didn't sound like she was having any problems. Did she sound different than your normal conversations? Well, it was super fast. It's like she couldn't be on the phone. That that kind of got me like like she didn't want to stay on the phone. Like I called her. She didn't want to stay on the phone at all. >> But just give you short answers and try >> like quick like I probably spoke to her for less than a minute probably quick. >> And that's not normal. >> That's not normal. Well, it isn't. It is cuz sometimes sleep for a while sometime it was early in the morning and so >> Okay. >> Jose's story didn't add up and the detective had a growing suspicion he was holding something back. So he pushed harder in an attempt to uncover the truth. >> So when's the last time you saw her in person? >> Friday. >> And where was that? >> At my house where you picked me up. Yeah. >> She was there. >> Yeah. >> Okay. With Vanessa? >> Yeah. >> Okay. And so you left. So it was Friday. You were with her? >> Yes. >> And Vanessa. >> She came over to our house. >> She came to visit you. So she drove. >> Yeah. >> No, wait, wait. Thanksgiving Eve. >> That's Thursday. >> Thursday. >> Yeah. >> Thanksgiving Eve. >> She came over and she slept over my house. >> Her or Vanessa slept over. Okay. >> Wednesday. Wait up. Let me get that right. Wednesday after work. Wednesday, she got out of work around 3:00. She had an early day. >> So, Wednesday out at 3:00. >> Yeah. So, I said to her, "Pack pack a lot of stuff and come over cuz my mom said they can stay over >> for Thanksgiving holiday, whatever." So, to spend Thanksgiving. >> So, she came over with Vanessa from work, getting ready for work. She packed the car. She came over with us from work and um and she slept over. >> So Wednesday night she slept over. >> Yeah. >> So Thursday she hangs out >> she slept over too. >> She hangs out with you guys Thanksgiving. >> Yeah. >> And then when does she leave? >> Friday. >> So she slept over again. >> She slept over until Friday. Not Friday. Not from Friday to Saturday. >> Right. >> From Thursday to Friday. >> So Wednesday to Thursday, Thursday to Friday. >> Exactly. And then when did she leave on Friday? >> Probably around I'm not sure. Somewhere in the afternoon around 6 I think. >> So at night evening like around dinner time. >> Yeah. >> All right. Did she leave by herself? >> Yeah. With Vanessa. >> With Vanessa. >> Yeah. >> And you're assuming she went home. >> Exactly. I assume it. Yeah. >> At this point, it was clear that Christine was last seen with Jose, allegedly leaving his house on Friday after the two had spent two days together and celebrated Thanksgiving. >> So, make sure I got this right. She left your house or your parents house on Friday. >> Yeah. >> With Vanessa? >> Yeah. >> And you didn't go with her? >> No. >> So, where did you stay over the weekend? >> I stayed with my friend Hector. >> Hector? He lives in East. >> What's Hector's last name? >> I don't know. >> Last name. >> You know where he lives in East David? Does he know you're Christine or he has no idea? >> So he has no idea where Christine is. Even though I got a girlfriend, your only girlfriend or you have other girl other girlfriends. She have other boyfriends. >> We're not that close, >> right? >> It's like we have a baby. >> Yeah. >> But it's not like she my girlfriend. Girlfriend. We say that. We use that word very lightly. >> But we have a baby together. That happened. It happened. So I guess I'm assuming a little bit of responsibility by helping her out a little bit. >> Yeah. >> So >> yeah. No. So we didn't go up with the baby. So we let her come over and stay over our house and holiday and things like that to see the baby. >> So you do all that for Vanessa. You It's not for Christine. >> It's not for Christine. It's for Vanessa. Yeah. Exactly. >> So your family likes Vanessa. >> Vanessa. Yeah. We really we really we really don't like Christine. She said she okay, you know, but all right, that's it. We love Vanessa. >> Jose's claim that his family really didn't like Christine didn't quite align with his mother's emotional reaction when she found out Christine was dead. Coming up, the detective played a strong card, pressing Jose even harder in hopes of breaking through his story. Listen. >> Yeah. >> Listen. >> Yeah. >> Listen. What? >> Your dad said you went to Christine's Friday with her. Why would he tell me that? >> He said that I went to Christine. >> Yes. Probably. That's why he thought I was. >> Why would you? You said you told him where you went and if you told him you went to Hector. >> She got her own car, >> right? But why would he tell me that you went to Christine's if you told him where you went? >> Why would he tell? He probably assumed. >> No, you said you told him where you went. >> I told who? It was a >> But it's a whole misunderstanding right there. >> All right. >> One thing that deeply unsettled the detectives was that Jose hadn't asked about his one-year-old daughter, not even once. >> Are you Are you 100% sure that Vanessa is your kid? I didn't have no DNA test, but I assume so. Yeah. >> What was that? >> I didn't have a DNA test, but I assume she's my Okay. >> I mean, cuz if I someone came to my house and said Vanessa's missing, and it's my one-year-old daughter. >> I'm worried. Yet, he admitted to leaving multiple times to buy cigars at a nearby Shell station. Security footage showed him appearing calm and unemotional. At one point, he even claimed he and Christine were just acquaintances, a statement that made no sense. as they'd been a couple for three years and shared a daughter. Christine's landlord and his mother reported hearing loud banging and heavy dragging from her apartment early on Monday, December 2nd. A neighbor's security footage later confirmed that Jose left the apartment about 30 minutes after police had knocked on the door for a welfare check, meaning he had been inside at the time. A few days later, a local charity director reported finding blood stained toys in a donation bin near St. Michael's Church in Darby, Connecticut. Police also recovered a trash bag containing blood rags, mail addressed to Christine, and a single pink child's croc. A later search of Christine's apartment, uncovered the matching shoe. DNA tests confirmed the blood was Christine's, and surveillance footage showed Jose disposing of the items on December 2nd. The medical examiner concluded Christine died from blunt force trauma to the head and torso. Her death was ruled a homicide. On February 7th, 2020, Jose Morales was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence. Sadly, Vanessa has never been found, and Jose remains tight-lipped about her disappearance. Now, to the case where a 12-year-old girl took the life of her 9-year-old brother. >> I'm so sorry. I'm sorry. >> Come here. Come here. >> I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. We're just going to put handcuffs on just for now. >> On January 5th, 2023, officers from the Tulsa Police Department were dispatched to a home after a 12-year-old girl had brutally taken the life of her 9-year-old brother. When officers arrived on scene, the suspect was heard apologizing to her mother for what she had done. >> I'm so sorry. I'm sorry. >> Come here. Come here. >> I'm so sorry. >> I'm so sorry. >> We're just going to put handcuffs on just for now. >> I'm sorry. people. >> Where's the >> SORRY. I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S >> I'M SO SORRY. >> I'm sorry. I was upstairs in my room and I threw it out the window. It was behind the apartment right here. >> You threw it where? >> I threw it out my window upstairs. Not Not right there. It's the room. It's the other room. It's right behind the apartment. This apartment right here. >> So, where would the knife be? On that side. >> Behind. Right behind you. >> The knife. I'm so [ __ ] sorry, mama. I'm so sorry. I don't know what happened. THIS IS SOME DEMONIC [ __ ] I'M SO SORRY. >> WHAT'S your mom? >> What's your mom's name? I got to go with him. I'm so sorry. I don't know what the happened. Sit criss-cross on the grass. Okay. >> Okay. >> Just sit there for a second. You don't have the knife on you, right? >> No, I swear I don't. I'm sorry. >> I don't. I don't I'm sorry. I don't know what happened. [Music] >> Is there anybody else inside the house? >> No, it's just me, my mom, and my brother. >> Hey, how would I get to the knife? Is there the back side? >> I can show you. Okay. >> I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. I really didn't want things to happen like this. This sucks. I'm so sorry. I'm probably going to go to jail and I'm going to live the rest of my life in prison. >> That's it right there. Okay. I'm so sorry. I don't know why. >> Can you do me a favor? >> Psychological evaluations later revealed that the girl was genuinely confused after the murder. She couldn't explain why she did it. Her mother explained that the 12-year-old had been on ADHD medication, which had made her edgy and unstable. Eventually, she decided to take her off the medication on her own. >> I don't know what happened. >> It's okay. It's okay. >> I heard my brother screaming and I didn't know what to do, so I just ran out and then I came back cuz I didn't cuz I was scared. >> How old is he? >> He's 9 years old. >> 9 years old. Okay. All right. I'll be right here. Okay. >> Okay. >> This ain't tight. >> Am I going to jail? >> You're not going anywhere right now. >> Will I be in jail? >> What was that? >> Will I be Will I be in jail >> right now? Okay, I know there's a lot of things going on right now. Just take a breath. >> I don't know why I did it. >> Just take a breath. Let's not think about it. >> Is my brother in the hospital? >> He's in the hospital right now, little lady. Yeah. >> Will he live? >> Pretty sure he will. There's the doctors. Doctors are all over there. We'll take care of him. Your mom's over there, too. >> I'm so sorry. I'm sorry. Never going to forgive me. >> It's okay. >> Take a breath. >> Are the handcuffs necessary? I'm a good child. >> You're a good child like this, which is what we have to do. Posy, especially if you're sitting in my car, you know. >> Got to itch my eye. >> Yeah, I know. Coming up, the suspect was taken to the police station. >> Just go ahead and we'll leave it like that for now. Take me this. Go ahead and turn your hands over, guys. I'll bring it with us. We're going to come over here. Your mom's here, too. They just pulled in. Okay. I'm going to kind of walk you through everything and we'll just go from there. Um, >> at this point, the mother arrived at the station and the officer was able to offer brief relief by telling her that her son was still alive, at least for now. >> Okay, so right now he's breathing. They're doing everything they can. Uh, but it's I was just talked to the doctor and she was saying it's all good things right now. >> Oh, thank God. Okay, >> so I have to leave both my kids tonight. I I I know that this is a a probably I mean I >> 12-year-old daughter. I don't understand why she would do something like that. She's so >> I can I said I cannot imagine what you're going through right now. >> She's never been aggressive or anything. >> Yeah. >> It's not like her. Like it's like they look each other like brother and sisters, but it's never they never like fist fight or do anything like that. >> He was in bed. He was downstairs trying to sleep. I don't know why she even went down there. Like what the hell is she I don't understand any of it. All I know is I heard him screaming, the worst scream ever. And I thought maybe he was having a nightmare. So I started to try to wake him up and there's blood everywhere. And he said, "She's stabbed me. She's stabbed me." I was like, "Who?" And he started going in and out of consciousness. And so that's what they told me to put him on the floor, do chest compressions, and and I couldn't find my daughter anywhere, was screaming her name, and she ran out after she did it cuz she was scared. So, right now she's safe and she's in custody with us right now. Uh, this is a really over like I I'm I mean I this is a very um there's no words that I can tell you that's going to >> so weird. Why would she do that? >> Those are answers we're going to be looking for. And >> yeah, like it's just weird. They don't I mean they don't really get along that great but they never would have assumed she'd do something like that. That's crazy to me. Like she was like I don't know why I just it was crazy. I don't know. She doesn't even curse. Like I don't know. >> Just Yeah. I can >> She's not a bad kid. Like she doesn't do bad things. You know what I mean? Like she doesn't trouble. It was weird. Yeah. >> What's her name? The mother was overwhelmed with grief and her mind raced with questions that had no easy answers. >> Own sister, you know that he will never forgive her. She will never it will never be there will always be issues now between them. Like what the hell is she thinking? >> Well, it doesn't I mean she's 12 years old at that age. You know, there's a lot of things going on in the brain. She probably wasn't thinking. >> Hello. So, what we need is to get is a search waiver for the apartment so we can go through have our crime scene detectives go through and do a thorough investigation of this. Um, so you don't have to authorize us to do this, but uh I mean it would really aid in our investigation of trying to figure out everything that's going on. >> We know what happened. My daughter says she got a knife and stabbed him three times. >> Well, we need to find the knife and we need to do all that. >> Can I be there? >> Uh, >> I just don't know. I don't have anyone there right now. There's nothing. It's not like I mean if there's any like we're not looking for any like I I'm not saying I'm just saying like like or anything illegal. It's not for that. >> I just don't Yeah, it's fine. I want to sign it. I just >> I just don't have anyone that can be there right now. >> Well, and that's there won't be any like cuz this is like crime scene detectives that go through and it could even be homicide that goes through. And >> you do have two cats there, too. I don't want them to get out. >> And they're not going to get out. They're >> Okay. Yeah. >> So, your name is And you're only authorizing us to go through there. >> Okay. Did >> she not get the knife for you guys when >> Well, she got where it was. >> Well, if it's inside the house. >> She said it was in her room. >> Okay. Well, so that's the thing. We can't just go in there. >> Yeah. >> Uh so the only thing I need to get from you is your signature right here. Uh here's a pin >> right here. >> Yeah. I'll give you guys uh >> Hi. Oh my god. >> Go back over there and give him some time. >> She was upstairs. He was downstairs asleep and she just heard screaming. Come down there and she thought that he was just having a nightmare until she saw the blood. >> Okay. So >> makes you wonder what's going on in the 12-year-old. >> The 9-year-old boy later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Due to Oklahoma law, which prohibits felony adult prosecution for children under 13, the 12-year-old girl was not charged as an adult. Instead, she was taken into custody and held at the Family Center for Juvenile Justice in Tulsa. As of the most recent updates, no formal charges had been made public and the case remained under investigation by the Tulsa Police Child Crisis
