He's got corner house with a white Suburban. >> Please jump over, please. >> I'm coming. >> Jump over, please. Please come help me. >> He's I think he's on this truck. He's uh behind the bush. >> As more officers arrived, they found themselves pinned down by Cantu, an armed man, moving between a bush, a garage, and the cover of nearby vehicles. Getting a clear shot, let alone getting close wasn't going to be simple. >> Black man with a rifle at the corner. All right. Watch. I don't see it. >> You coming? The channel's on closed. Please close. Close out. Somebody, please come help me. >> He's I think he's following me in the truck. He's uh behind the bush. >> Drop the gun. >> Black male with a rifle at the corner. The police. I don't have a clear Mexican incoming unit. I need a rifle. It's your garage. >> While other units worked to pin down the suspect's exact location, rescue teams pushed forward to reach him under active threat. And every attempt to move in came with a very real risk. >> Hey, we need to develop a plan to get the CRU guy. Garage is open again. >> At the garage. >> He's at the garage. He's got a rifle. out the garage. >> Where's he at? WHERE IS HE AT? LET ME SEE YOUR hands rifle. BACK UP AND GET COVER. >> FIRED. FIRED. Hold on. I'm moving. Uh, we've got multiple fired. Okay, >> we need to get >> avoid which way we need to come in. >> Come right off our Riverside. You'll see our cars. We're going to have to move uh north and we're also going to have to move west to get this containment. >> Go. >> Yeah. EMS is asking for a place to clear. >> I'm moving. Watch. >> As the standoff dragged on, SWAT was called in to help establish containment around the property. What started as a single ambush had turned into a full-scale operation with no end in sight. So, I'm in the uh victim's house now. >> I'm across the street now. I still don't have eyes on him. >> Just be clear, we have an officer. >> Yeah. I'm not sure what the address is where he's at. >> Yeah. 122 took it to the left eye. What number of house are you in? >> Is that the one behind me? >> Which house is this coming from? Where did that play off? >> You clear the air fired. Black male, no shirt. white minivan and driveway. It looks like >> What's this house number? >> Frank 510. I'm going to move again to the north and try to extract the officer. >> Forward, please. >> Frank 510. I'm at the door trying to get to our person. I need here. >> What's the address? >> Okay. All right. What are you with? I don't know. I'm not a pellet gun or a real gun. >> No, it's risky. Risky risky. >> Frank 510. Shut up and listen. >> I got one officer in the face. >> He's white and conscious. I need that extract team right now. >> Just stay. He's inside. Get him out. I got this. >> Officers pushed forward toward the wounded officer while trying to pin down Cantu's shifting position. Every step closer came with a risk none of them could take back. But the standoff was only minutes from finally breaking. He's >> inside. Get him on. Hang on. Let's go. Rescue. Rescue. >> No. Stay in the house. Close the door. Move. Move. Move. Move. Move. Move. STOP. >> I'M A CROSSROAD. Go a >> go. Don't. It's not worth it. >> On February 20th, 2026, officers from the Antioch Police Department responded to a Food Max grocery store after a report of an armed robbery in progress. What they found waiting for them outside would set off a pursuit none of them expected that morning. Officers arrived roughly 3 minutes after the suspect vehicle rammed into the front of the store with the driver already speeding off. What happened next put far more than just the store at risk. Got a vehicle. Let me see your ass. Get the off. >> Get out. Get out. Get out. Get that. >> Let me see your hand. Let me see your hand. Let me see your hand. Let me see your hand. Hey. Hey. Let me see your hand. Let me see your hand. Hey. >> Stop the car. Officer Donaldson repeatedly ordered Duza to stop the car, but Duza had no intention of listening. With the vehicle still moving and no way to predict what Duza would do next, every second put both of them closer to a moment neither could undo. >> Stop the car. >> Hey, stop the car. Stop. >> Get out the car, bro. >> Stop the car. >> Get out. Stop the car. >> Get out. >> Stop the car. >> Get out. I'm crash. Hey, I'm crash. I'm crash. >> All right. Stop the car. I got family, bro. >> All right. Talk. Talk to me. Talk to me. Talk to me. Talk to me. Talk to me. >> With Duza refusing every command and the situation growing more dangerous by the second, Officer Donaldson made a decision no officer wants to make. >> That's not going to work, bro. That's not going to work. >> Stop. I'll >> stop. I got a friend. JUST GET OUT, BRO. PLEASE. >> STOP. >> JUST GET OUT THE CAR, BRO. >> STOP. >> JUST GET OUT THE CAR. >> I will put one in you. >> Just get out the car, please. >> Stop. >> Just get OUT THE CAR, PLEASE. >> STOP. >> Just get out the car. >> Stop. I'm about to get >> Stop. >> STOP THE CAR. >> STOP THE CAR. >> STOP THE [ __ ] CAR. [screaming] >> STOP. >> I'mma You >> stop. While officers were trying to stop Duza, the driver was hit. The vehicle came to a stop moments later, but the suspect wasn't finished trying to get away. Z5 fired. Z5 one fired. Subjects belt out of the car. Right here. Still one. >> Just one person. Keep the man. You got it. >> You're in the bushes. Let me SEE YOUR ASS RIGHT NOW. He's not loading. >> Go get up there. Watch your hands. Assist. Assist. I got I got >> Don't move. Let me see. Close your hands right now. >> If you see your hand, put your hands out >> like an airplane. All right. >> Let me see the other hand. >> No. Hands up. Keep your hands up. Do not move them until I tell you to. You're not doing it until I tell you. >> In the end, Duza was charged with kidnapping, robbery, assault with a deadly weapon upon a peace officer, two counts of burglary, grand theft, and unlawful [music] driving or taking of a vehicle. Up next, we have a case of a routine hospital escort turned into an ambush. A trap none of them saw coming. >> He was right here. That was one of my officers. >> Are you kidding? Officer in there. just now. >> Damn it. >> Say that he left with a inmate. >> On March 20th, 2024, officers from the Boise Police Department responded to St. Alonsus Regional Medical Center after correctional officers escorting inmate Skyler Meade were ambushed by an armed accomplice, Nicholas Umpenor, waiting outside. Officers were hit almost instantly and the scene collapsed into chaos within seconds. >> We have one officer, I'm unclear which jurisdiction it is, there's another officer there trying to get him into the ER at this time. He just left to go back into the bay to see if he could confront the man with the gun. >> We got multiple units rolling 23. Let's just keep the air clear for a second. Get that person out of there. There's somebody over there. sign pointing it at the ambulance thing outside the gun outside towards us. >> Cover. >> I got nothing. >> I got moved. As responding units rushed to find me, confusion spread fast. But a tragic mistake would leave another officer caught in the crossfire. >> Movement at the counter. There he is. >> Don't move. >> Got nothing. >> There he is right there. He's got He's got the gun in his hand. He's got the gun in his Dispatch. Fired. Fired. Suspect is right inside the door. He's got the pistol in his hand. Hey, code. >> Where's he at? >> What's the code? >> I got it. I got it. >> He went right. He went right. Watch yourself. >> Shield up. >> Shield up. Shield up. Let's go. >> Shield. Chill. >> Who's me? Who's me? Put away my firearm. >> He said he's saying he's put away his firearm. >> Where's the person that had the gun? >> He left. >> Left where? >> The guy left. >> Yep. >> He was right here. >> No, that was one of my officers. >> Are you kidding? >> No, we Jesus. >> He's getting here. 3250 last guy. >> Wait over there. Who's in here? >> Room by room, officers pushed deeper into the hospital, clearing patients and searching for a man who was no longer even inside the building. What they didn't know yet was just how far this manhunt was about to stretch. >> Suspect was in the ER bay. He ran this direction. So, we're holding containment here. >> Okay. So, I want you >> What's that? >> I was just telling him they had like 14 guys going over there. So, more bodies on this side cuz the suspect ran this way. >> Yes. So, they found out this guy is uh a heavy SD started walking out supposedly got one of my officers got around the shoulder. The other one got to the van. >> Dude popped around the corner with a gun. >> One of my officers got shot. Head towards four. That's what my guy saying. >> Somebody on video. >> Hey, somebody's saying the guy suspects in pod four. Where is that? >> Where is that? >> Show us where it I got to go get. >> Show us what is. >> What is that? >> We don't know what that is. >> From the hospital with us to tell us where >> we don't know where pod four is. Can you do this? >> Pop four right here. >> Hey, check room. Check room. >> All right, let's get this thing on. >> Hey guys. Hey. Slow down. Slow down. >> Slow down. We're good. Let's make a contact team here. >> Second contact team here. >> Has not been checked. Hey, that's got a that's got that caught in it. >> That's got that caught in it. >> Likely. >> Grover. You said with them pulling back. >> Look, this has got the curtain caught in it. Where do you want to go? Around the corner. >> Hang on. Hang on. >> Is there something blocking the door? >> Nothing. >> Hold on. Blue >> on the floor in there. >> Something under that bed. >> The security officer saying that he left with the inmate. You guys go get with the guy in the camera room and try and find his last location and try and track that down. >> The officers then made their way to the hospital where inmates were being treated unaware that the chaos they had just walked into was far from over. All these rooms have innocent in them. >> Okay. All these have innocent in them. >> Okay. You got a um >> Go ahead, Rogers. >> You got some in the bed straight ahead. So, >> we got the other team to our west right now. Moving south. >> All right. Pushing up. Okay. Um, two shields. Just get side by side. Slowly move up. >> This room's clear. >> Sge. >> Serge. We're clearing this. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Go. >> Nice and slow. >> They're out. >> Nice and slow. >> Friendlies are out. Yep. Watch >> one. Old lady to the left. We got friendlies, but they know to go. Guns down. >> I got left. >> You got two door right here. Let's just keep clearing it. >> Blue, blue, blue, blue. >> Clear. >> That should be a 15y old female. >> Do we need to get up through there? >> There's a 15-y old female here alone. >> Okay. >> The search for me and became a 36-hour, 130 mhunt, but their escape came [music] at an even greater cost. While on the run, they murdered two men, James Monty and Gerald Henderson, for a getaway vehicle. In the end, both men were captured and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of release. Moving to the next case, an officer approached a suspicious vehicle, unaware he was moments away from getting trapped inside it and driven into a decision. >> If he takes off, take off. Yeah. Just don't get caught inside of that car. >> No. Yeah. >> Stop, man. Just let me out. Let me out. Stop. Stop. >> On March 18th, 2023, officers from the Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in northeast DC. What they found sitting inside it would set off a chain of events no one on the scene expected. >> See if this door is open. Okay. If it is, I'm going to pull it open. I'm going to grab him. Just one guy, right? SL once he see us. How bad do you think it'll be if you park him in? >> He's got to get started. He's got to get started. >> All right. 31. Now you get the crane. The crane is on. Do me a favor. Um, vehicle does have some indications that it is stolen. The ignition's punk. Do you have a crane available? At the scene, officers found the vehicle running with a young man asleep and the ignition punched. Confirming the car had been stolen. Getting him out safely was the next problem. And every option on the table came with its own risk. >> Carefully cut it out. All lots of door from the exterior. >> The door opens quietly. He's still knocked out. Then I'll move away. Somebody just has to jag him. He's got his hands up. >> So, the last guy to uh him and I will we'll yank him out. Um or do you want to Who wants to be You want to be hands? >> Well, my other question is, >> have we looked to see if it's in driver? >> And is it still running? Is it still running? Okay. >> Cuz I I saw it running earlier, but then I didn't see the car. >> It's not. >> Oh, yeah. So, like I just want to make sure that we don't have anyone on our end or your end >> that if he like throws it in drive, >> it's a foot remover or side slate or if he throws it in reverse. I just want everyone to >> The best way is cut out that plastic. >> Yeah. Unlock it again. >> Carefully and quietly try to unlock the door. If that works and we're able to open the door, he's still knocked out. >> Then we can reach in and pull him out before he gets to the gear. But we're not going to go in there if we start up because he's gonna wake up and drive and let him go at that. So, we don't, you know what I mean? >> Yeah. >> But we don't want anybody to get caught in the middle of that door. So, I think >> cut out that plastic, >> try to unlock the door once again. He's still knocked out there. Trying to make room. >> Mhm. >> Quickly just jump in there, grab him, grab his hands, don't let him put in drive. Okay. >> And if he takes off, takes off. Yeah. >> Just don't get caught inside of that car. >> No. Yeah. So we report stolen. >> So if the car is stolen and the tag comes back to a different car than that car. >> When was it stolen? >> I think recently recently. >> Do we know if it was carjacked or >> straight stolen? >> Oh, just straight. >> So I think that's the best approach. Quietly cut out the thing. Unlock that door. If he doesn't get startled, you I can always cut it. Unlock it and bend down if he doesn't get startled. That kind of >> If he hasn't woken up yet, I feel like >> I'll turn everything down whenever you're ready. But please don't get caught inside. >> Yeah. >> Speaking among themselves, officers planned to quietly get in and pull the young man out before he could react. But as they moved in, the situation took an unexpected turn. Heat. Heat. Mhm. Police. Don't move. Don't move. Don't move. Don't move. Don't move. [ __ ] STOP. >> With an officer now inside the back seat, the car sped off down the street. What happened next unfolded in seconds? >> Stop, man. Just let me out. LET ME OUT. STOP. STOP. STOP. SHOT FIRED. SHOT FIRED. SHOTS FIRED. DON'T MOVE. Don't move. >> 512. Don't [ __ ] move. The vehicle veered off the road, crossed a sidewalk, and crashed into a nearby house. Officers rushed forward, but what awaited them inside the car would test every one of them in the minutes that followed. in park. >> He looks in park. I can't shut it off gas. >> Yeah. Yeah. I copy out >> everybody out of your house. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> I'm making sure my son was coming over. I'm just making sure they >> get out. Get out. She tell you to do the stomach. >> Car is all my >> I got a head injury as well. Hand injury. >> You got the kit? >> Yeah. >> GCC kit. Yeah, >> I need major guards for the back. >> And I'll need [ __ ] for the stomach, too. >> Injury. Got one. >> Two rounds. Two. Three. I need a patch of back. What do you got for me? >> You all right? >> I need you. You okay? >> On your back. >> Do you see any exit wounds? >> Just anything I can slap on them. >> That'll work. Got any tape? >> Yes. >> You got what? Two in the back. Three. You got tape in there? >> Yes. Yes. Taking out. >> Yeah. I can use this, too. Look at that. That'll work. This is a chest. Be advised, MPD want to assist us with a landing zone. >> You got Eagle coming? >> Yeah. >> Hey, they got Eagle coming for a landing zone. >> Anything else? >> Is that all you got? Hey, in the back of the uh interceptor, there should be a small bag on the floorboard. >> That'll work. particular traffic. >> Yeah, this could wrap. >> Yeah, I'm coming towards you. Got it. >> Yep. >> 959. >> We'll keep him up. Officers pulled the suspect from the vehicle and immediately called for a medevac as backup units worked to keep the scene secure. >> Hey, you good? Nothing. >> Sorry. You want me to take over? >> Yeah. Right here. Stay right here. Stay right here. Stay right here. doing. >> We got multiple rounds. >> Multiple rounds. Got a round right here. Shots in the chest. It looks like I just >> You want this? >> How about that? >> So, what did this >> try to get a story? Did this happen? >> Yeah. Yeah. >> He was uh he was out in the vehicle. >> Unresponsive. >> Tried to move him >> and then he took off. >> Okay. >> Yeah, he was unresponsive before getting shot. Let's In the end, the US Attorney's Office found insufficient evidence to pursue federal civil rights charges against the officer involved. [music] Next, we have a case of a wellness check that turned into an ambush officers never had the chance to see coming. >> Should have never broke into my house. Sorry about that. On May 11th, 2023, dispatchers in Bourge, Ontario, received a call from a woman who reported hearing loud music, screaming, and the sound of a firearm shot coming from the house next door. Officers were sent out to make sure everything was okay. But this wellness check would soon morph into their worst nightmare. Echo the location, Nancy. as well. Okay. Okay. Yeah. Good boys. Yeah. Come on up. >> I still have that. >> Well, I can't let those window bolt. I just covered the front door. We're just going to do a perimeter check first. So far, everything seemed quiet as officers made their way around 39-year-old Allen's home. However, [music] what they didn't see was Allan sitting quietly inside, ready to unleash hell. change that. So see Dolly doesn't have a gun that's square. You see you come through this ball. See >> what? I already When Allan refused to open the door, the officers [music] braced for the worst, forcing their way inside to make contact. But that decision would turn out to be the biggest mistake of their careers. You don't mind There should have never broke in my house. Sorry about that. Allen fired nine rounds. Sergeant Eric Mueller was struck almost instantly, collapsing inside the mudroom. Constables Mark Loen and France Gamash were also hit, though their body armor stopped the bullets. And as the weight of what he had done sank in, Allan began to panic. Yeah. Wow. No fire police off street. Sheriff's unfortunately broke into my house in my house. >> Where am I? >> Additional units rushed in as Sergeant Mueller lay helpless on the floor and despite paramedics's efforts, he [music] passed away. The suspect, Alam Beloy, was later charged with one count of first-degree and two counts of attempted murder. Moving on to the moment officers attempted to solve a [music] domestic dispute. Not expecting the male to be armed and ready to strike, saying, "I'm going to kill you." >> I see like that. >> Okay. Where is he right now? >> He's uh probably in the basement. >> On March 8th, 2024, Hamilton Township police officers responded to a residence on Orchard Avenue in Hamilton in response to a 911 call concerning a domestic dispute. And when they talked to the woman who made the complaint, she revealed something terrifying. >> I hear that. What's going on? >> Had way too much drink and I don't really quite understand what he's upset about. Um, but it's a little bit out of control. >> Um, he does have a lot of guns in the basement. He's a hunter. Things like that. He's not me specifically, >> right? >> But I'm not able to reach him. I don't really understand what's happen. >> No, he's calling us all kinds of names. All very derogatory things like that. He's saying I'm going to kill you. I see nothing like that. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> No, but >> what's his name? >> Vincent. >> Vincent. Okay. >> Yeah. >> All right. You just want to hang out here with my partner? >> I do. Absolutely. My dog is very sweet. She's big. She's not >> Oh, I'm good with dogs. I love dogs. Going in to find a suspect in a basement stacked with firearms was far from ideal for the officers. Still, they chose to confront 44year-old Vincent Koreah, hoping to talk him down. What they didn't know was that Vincent had no intention of going along with that plan. >> Where is he right now? >> He's uh probably in the basement. If you want, I can lead you through. It's not like a bad situation. >> I got you. [snorts] >> Whoa, whoa, whoa. Within seconds of entering the house, the officers saw Vincent coming at them with a huge firearm and their lives flashed in front of their eyes. Just as Vincent opened fire, Officer Pyramali's own firearm jammed. At that moment, Officer Derek Fabain was forced to make the [music] most difficult and most courageous decision of his life. YEAH, [screaming] WHO THE [ __ ] THROW THE GUN. THROW the gun. THROW THE GUN AWAY. THROW THE GUN. THROW THE GUN. THROW THE GUN. THROW the gun. Got you covered. Throw the [ __ ] gun away. [music] >> Officers hit. Officers hit. Get your message. >> Both officers were hit and were immediately taken to the hospital. Officers and emergency medical personnel rendered first aid to Kareah, but he unfortunately passed away at the scene. Moving on to a case of an officer who responded to what he believed was a routine call for help, unaware he'd already stepped into a trap. >> Where you hit, >> stay with me. This came from the house over there. >> On September 7th, 2023, Louisville officer Brandon Haley pulled over a car with no headlights around 2:30 a.m. Before he could even approach the vehicle, gunfire exploded from a nearby house. I'm [screaming] officer down. Fire. Fire. [groaning] Oh my goodness. Where my stomach? No. Leave it on for right now. Come on. for anything Kentucky. I GOT TO down godamn hurt. Within seconds, Haley was hit in the chest and collapsed behind his patrol car as bullets kept raining down. Pinned down, bleeding, and struggling to breathe, Haley could barely call out his location. That's when Officer Colin Belato sprinted straight into the gunfire. >> Give me EMS. Give me EMS. Officer down. free. >> Fire. Fired. Wait a stomach. Put it in your stomach. No, leave it on for right now. Come on, Kentucky. I'm going to down. Step it up. I I need more cars. >> [clears throat] >> Hey, watch that. This sounds I believe this came from the house up there. Stay with me. Hey, watch to WATCH YOUR BACK. COVER THAT. ONE OF THOSE HOUSES OVER THERE CAME FROM THE FRONT DOOR. [panting] I got it. In the middle of the gunfire, Bolato grabbed Haley by his vest and dragged him nearly a full block into a nearby alley. Once they reached cover, Bolato didn't stop. He immediately began life-saving aid, sealing Haley's wounds, calling for EMS, and directing incoming officers toward the house where the shots came from. Despite the chaos, Bolato stayed locked in, keeping Haley awake and talking as his condition worsened from the gun wound. There's >> stay with me. [clears throat] >> Hey, we're going to be on Kentucky right up here in the alleyway. I got an officer with a gun wound to the chest. [panting] [snorts] This is like mill two black males. Hy, stay with me, bud. [snorts] I'm right here in the alleyway on Kentucky, HALF A BLOCK DOWN FROM 40TH. I can see your vehicles. I got chest seals on both sides. Come on. Stay with me, bud. Do you anywhere else? >> No. >> Are you sure? [cough] >> Just stay with me. >> You're good. You're good. >> Somebody got a bag. Anybody got a bag? >> Somebody get a bag. >> Bring it back. Bring it back. Bring it back. >> Good, buddy. Buddy, breathe. Kentucky Street. Breathe. Breathe, brother. Breathe. Breathe. Breathe. In the house right up there south of Kentucky Street. >> Did you check his back? >> What? >> Check the back. >> Yeah, I got it. >> Wait, wait, wait. Right here. >> Stop. Somebody watch the 101 moving. >> No, just miss. >> Hey. Hey, man. >> Let's go. CAN WE GET YOUR CAR? WE GOT TO GO. LET'S GO. >> GET IN THE CAR. >> GET IT OPEN. GET OPEN, SIR. >> Get in the car. Get in the car. Get in the back. Bring him through. Bring him through. Bring him through. >> Get out of the way. >> Stop working on it. >> Go, go, go. >> Hey, Sergeant, watch this house. >> When backup finally arrived, officers rushed Haley to the hospital in an unmarked car where he was quickly stabilized. Doctors later said the only reason he survived was that Belato got him out of the kill zone fast enough to stop him from bleeding
