As officers continued checking the property, Constable Mark Loauson approached the unlocked front door and stepped inside, announcing their presence for the first time. But what happened moments later would change the course of the entire call. What? I don't [ __ ] def Hello for this. [ __ ] is wrong mother? Mother should have never broke in my house. Sorry about that. In the end, Sergeant Eric Mueller was proclaimed deceased on scene and two other Officers were injured. A lamb fight was later charged with first-degree murder. Her report raised concerns for their safety. Upon arrival, officers had no idea how dangerous the situation was about to become. We currently have a roommate that um we need to evict because he's been acting really weird and um has made um us extremely uncomfortable and we wanted to do it today, but he disclosed to us that he has a gun and I don't know if this is going to be a safe um something safe for us to do. We don't know if he's on something or what, but he's not getting out of the house. Jacob, >> Phoenix Police Department. Look how your feet are. >> Okay. Right, >> Jacob? >> That's what I'm trying to ask you. >> Oh, >> I don't understand what you're saying. >> Officers tried to establish communication with the suspect, 22-year-old Jacob Mavine, but he refused to cooperate. As the hours passed, tensions inside the residence continued to build until an unexpected turn changed the situation. >> So, as I'm walking backwards out, you can walk with me. >> So, remain. >> So, it's equal. It's >> the give and take, Jacob. Jacob, Jacob, this is Officer Huber with the Phoenix Police Department. Can you come down and talk to me? >> Jacob asks officers to meet him outside or in the garage. But nearly 5 minutes later, when he still hasn't come down the stairs, Officer Huber makes contact again. >> So, I can't meet you out in the garage. You come up. >> It's either you come down here or we come up. >> I was trying to make you feel more comfortable. >> Good. I'm right here. >> That's not >> Yes, it is. >> Yes, it is. >> And either you come down or we're coming up cuz the other the other person in this is Deon. We got to get up to Deon as well. >> The one I told you. No, >> Deon's in his room. >> Yeah, that's what I'm saying. So you come down or up? So yes or no? [screaming] >> Hold on to that. In the end, Commander Greg Carnacle lost his life while two other officers survived their injuries. After hours of negotiations, Jacob Meline eventually confronted officers and passed away at the scene. Next up, when officers pursued a car traveling at high speed, what began as a routine chase was about to escalate dramatically. >> 11, get ready for air. >> We got people [ __ ] hurt on the road. You want to drive like a [ __ ] [ __ ] >> Don't talk to ME LIKE THAT. STOP DRIVING like a [ __ ] [ __ ] >> On February 23rd, 2026, officers from Okachobee County, Florida, were in pursuit of a young driver who had been attempting to flee, but they had no idea the pursuit was about to turn into something far more serious. >> Hey, I'm right here, buddy. >> It's all right, brother. You good, buddy? >> What's his name? >> Roads. >> Austin. >> Austin, what's going on, man? You know where you're at? Stand by. >> Hey, you got somewhere important you're going. I'm good. Are you guys okay? Are you okay? >> The police just crushed us. >> That's me. I'm trying to make sure you're okay. You okay? >> Yeah, but you should not have done it like that. Do you not see my lights and stuff? Okay, that's fine. I just need to make sure everybody's okay. >> Yeah. You want to take to the hospital? >> Yeah. >> Are you okay? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> I'm going to need EMS. >> Yeah. >> Where you at, sweetheart? >> Where you at, sweetheart? >> In your head. >> Yes, ma'am. At this point, the moments that followed would reveal just how serious the situation had become. >> What happened, buddy? >> There was two cars in the straight lane. I got them the the one side to move out that they were stopped. There was the the first lane was stopped and I couldn't see. It seemed like everybody was stopped in the closest lane out. So, I had to get my computer and camera from the office and then I was coming down there cuz I was just I was on the phone with Jean when it happened trying to figure out where I need to go to get to help out cuz I didn't want to clog the radio and I started recording this as I got out. >> Have you been down there? And then he kind of started answering questions there at the end. Um, he became a little bit more alert. >> Okay. >> Um, but he's is >> possible or you don't know. >> I'm not sure. >> In the end, the fleeing driver was taken into custody after the crash while the injured officers received medical attention and survived the incident. Moving to the next case where a routine traffic pursuit was underway after a driver violated multiple laws, but officers had no idea how badly the chase would unfold. >> Holy, we got you. We got you. Hey, Miller, give me that haligan over here. >> While officers assisted the injured deputy, another team approached the driver identified as 27-year-old William Eric Thomas to assess the situation. They were unaware of the clear signs that something was seriously wrong. >> Back up. Back up. >> Get out of the car. You guys fired me. >> What? >> You guys fired me. >> I I don't care about that, bro. >> I'm here. >> Where's the handle? >> This right here. >> Can you help me out? >> Probably. Step out. Step out. Come on. [laughter] >> On February 9th, 2022, near Camp Verde, Arizona, Yavapai Apache Police Sergeant Preston Brogden responded to what he believed was a routine call for help. But within seconds of arriving, he came face to face with 39-year-old Valentine Rodriguez, a man armed with a high-powered rifle. And when two tore through the quiet desert air, everything changed. >> 223 fire. Officer down. OFFICER DOWN. PRESTON. COME ON. COME ON. 223. [screaming] Where are you? WHERE ARE YOU? WHERE ARE YOU? My go. I got you covered. >> 223. FIRE. [screaming] FIRE. [laughter] >> PRESTON. Come on. Let me take YOU TO THE HOSPITAL. COME ON. PRESTON, COME ON. FIRE. 223. FIRE. 223. OFFICER DOWN. >> COME ON. I got your cover. I got your cover. I got your cover. Come on. Come on. Come on. >> As the dust settled, the gravity of the situation became painfully clear. Sergeant Brogden had been hit, collapsing to the ground as his strength quickly faded. But while one officer lay wounded, another was right there beside him, acting immediately to keep him alive. You're good. Come on. I got you. This way. This way. Come on. I got you. Come on. [laughter] Come on. Come on. 223. [gasps] Come on. Come on. Come on. Press this. Come on, man. Come on. For several exhausting minutes, he lifted, dragged, and supported the wounded sergeant, forcing his own body to take the weight. Each step toward the patrol car became a battle against panic and the ticking of time. And just when it seemed impossible, he managed to get Brogden inside the vehicle. >> Get out of here. [gasps] [panting] Come on. I got to get you the hospital. I got to get you the hospital. >> [laughter] >> Get in there. I'm going to throw you in there. [clears throat] Okay. I'm going to take you to the hospital. [panting] [clears throat] Are you in? [laughter] [snorts] Keep pressure on it. [sighs and gasps] Keep pressure on it. Keep pressure [laughter] on it. Subject ran. I don't know if it's a pistol or a long gun. Native American or Mexican male. Looks like a blue flannel shirt and pants. We both fired at him. I know. Unknown if any took off down the river. [laughter] I'm going, buddy. I'm going to target. [panting] [laughter] Multiple units. [panting] [laughter] [snorts] >> 223. If you could advise the hospital. We got a male approximately 30 years old, 35, gun wound to the abdomen. Unknown of any other injuries at this time. You don't want medical to meet you somewhere. >> 223. I'm already in row with Sergeant Brogden. I'm still talking to him. [gasps] [panting and sighs] >> What was that? >> Oh, 229. I'm at the I'm going to the hospital across or the fire department across the street from the jail. Can you advise them? I'm pulling up now. >> Finally, he spotted a fire station in the distance and without thinking drove straight toward it, desperate to get the first aid his partner so urgently needed. Oh, I'm just keeping pressure on it, buddy. I'm just keeping pressure on it. >> I'm just keeping pressure on it. >> Bleeding. >> It's [panting] You're bleeding a little bit, buddy. Once they arrived, the officer stayed beside Brogden, applying pressure and steadying him through each moment of fear and confusion. Even when the sergeant believed his leg was broken, the officer reassured him, refusing to let panic consume the scene. Come on. They're coming [laughter] right here. They're coming to you. Come on. Don't leave me. Leave me right here. Leave me right here. >> [panting] >> A3 unreadable. >> He's right here. Gun wound right here. I don't know if he thinks his leg may be broken. [gasps] >> Halo. Halo. As firefighters and medics worked to stabilize him, the full weight of the night began to settle in. Yet through sheer determination and a refusal to let a fellow officer pass away, Sergeant Preston Brogden survived his injuries. In the weeks that followed, the department credited the responding officer's actions with saving Brogden's life. The suspect, Valentine Rodriguez, fled into the nearby riverbed, but was later captured following an extensive search. Up next, what was supposed to be a routine welfare check turned chaotic when a suspect transformed a simple encounter into a tragic scene. >> You were on the wrong side of the road, Kenny. >> I was not on the wrong side of the road. >> You were driving on the wrong side of the road, brother. Get out of the car. >> Wrong side of the road. >> Get out OF THE CAR. >> [screaming] >> LOUD. I'M HIT. >> ON February 8th, 2024, Deputy Shelby Edgars noticed a suspicious vehicle swerving between lanes. Good deal. I paint mama's house. He just sent me this and I called him back. But >> but I'm on Bluetooth. >> Okay, you're good. >> At first, Officer Edgars didn't notice anything unusual about the man. He just seemed like someone dealing with a lot. But after checking his license and insurance, she realized the car was registered to Kenneth Deart's mother. When she returned to speak with him, the strong smell of marijuana hit her. She calmly informed Kenneth that she intended to search the vehicle, but he didn't take that lightly. >> So, I smell weed in the car. Have you ever smoked weed in this car? >> Nobody. I don't smoke or nothing. >> Okay. You don't smoke or nothing? >> No. >> Has anybody ever smoked before? >> Nobody. This is my grandma's car. There's no smokers, man. >> Okay. Well, I smell it.
