Pence and Sabra Flag. At this point, additional units were called in to prevent any chance of escape as officers believed they could be dealing with a pair capable of committing violent acts without hesitation. >> Isaac, this is the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office. You need to come out and talk with us. >> What's your side look like? >> Windows, [music] AC unit, bunch of boarded up windows. >> Who is it? >> Fairfield County Sheriff's Office. >> Hold on. They're tightening up. >> Roll around Roll on your side. Roll on this side. Get your knees up underneath you. You're going to sit up on your Count to three. We're going to stand up. I think I just have my phone in my uh right pocket. >> Same thing? Roll her on her side. >> The woman still inside the home identified herself as Isaac's mother, explaining that her son and his girlfriend had arrived earlier. She added that upon their arrival, she noticed something unusual. They seemed upset as if something had happened. >> Do you know what time about time they came? >> Uh, about 5:00. >> 5:00 this morning. Okay. Do you have any idea where they went before that? You don't know? All right. Are you Are you mom to >> mom. >> You're Isaac's mother. Okay. Okay. Um Is this Isaac's residence? >> Yes. >> Okay. All right. Did Isaac tell you anything when he came home? >> Uh, they were both uh just acting irate and mad about something. >> Mad about something? >> Uh >> Do they normally get in fights about stuff? Is it pretty typical? >> No, not really. It's usually pretty >> Pretty calm? Okay. >> [music] >> Did that seem kind of odd that they were getting into a fight? >> No, they weren't fighting. They were just mad with like >> Oh, mad about >> Yeah, just about what had happened. >> They weren't mad at each other. They were mad at a situation. Okay. >> with each other. They were >> Okay. You'll be detained for a while due to a case out of Hocking County. Um, it's being investigated right now. I think that happened in Hocking County. So, [music] we were told it was a high risk and everything had to keep, you know, everything has to be on a need-to-know basis. >> Okay. >> So, >> I I was like >> Yeah. Yeah, that's why that's why we're out here like this. Um, >> [music] >> if you wish to call Franklin or not Franklin, if you wish to call Hocking, you can and they'll be able to advise you more on it. But as of right now, we can't we can't disclose any information coming out of there, okay? >> All right. >> All right. So, I think with them being loaded up, I think we're going to get out of here, but you can go inside and get warm. >> All right. >> Thank you. >> Not a problem. >> While officers transported Isaac Pence and Sabra Flagg, they continued collecting information at the scene. A key witness's testimony indicated that a black car spotted at the crime scene that night had led them directly to this house. >> I don't see anything that jumps out at me. >> All right. Well, the only thing that I said no. I don't know what you're talking about. >> not going to open it. >> Yeah, cuz we need to preserve that. That's what I was saying. Like there's like someone's footprints and stuff. Like someone was in it or something. Cuz he's Yeah, hell, there's a footprint clear up here. >> Yeah, there's blood. >> Right there, right there. Yep, yep, right there. Oh, no. And check on the mirror. And right here. So, there is some blood on the car. Yeah, there's blood on the car. but he didn't look like he had any blood on him. All red marks on that back of the shirt. Somebody like kicked out of the car there's like there's blood on the car. >> Yeah, that's clearly anything here too. It's like on the side that's what there's a footprint stuff like someone was kicking as it was going by or something. >> There's blood all over the seat too. Hard to tell in it. >> Yeah, it is hard to tell. >> Yeah, cuz there's drink spilled over there. Blood on the door too. But like I said you could have come home with that. >> Wondering what Did something they said was the back glass already broken? >> So that's what one of our descriptors was but it looks [music] like somebody had they got in their car and somebody had started waylaying it. You can see all the blood here. You got blood here too Jenkins on the fender. >> All right. >> Blood here on the hood. Yeah, and like I said you got blood splatter here but you got blood splatter here. Up here. You see that? Blood up here. >> Yeah, I got this here. >> Okay, there. Here, here and there. Funny how I walked by at first or make that I didn't see anything. >> Officers began a preliminary inspection of the vehicle used by the suspects but several details immediately stood out. The shape of the damage on the passenger side window appeared consistent with an impact from someone's head and blood stains were found throughout the vehicle suggesting it may have been used in the commission of the crime. >> There's blood on the Blood on the hood, blood on the windshield, blood on the door side pocket, blood on the window, blood on the mirror. There's blood splatter everywhere. Um and that's all without opening it. Didn't open it, didn't touch it. >> All right. >> So, all that stuff's there, and um you can take It's hard for that cuz the glare, but we didn't want to open it. >> Are you taking it on This is this on the outside? >> Yeah, like I said, we didn't open it or nothing. I didn't want I didn't want to open it. >> No, that's fine. >> But, you know, like I said >> look good in the reflection. >> Well, it's about to be >> That's why I moved out to the side. I said, "Yeah, that's That's not even my good side." >> I don't know anything. I got on at 6:00 a.m. I was told to come down here. That's all I know. >> This is a dumb because I Of course, he had 15 people try to jump me. And it was her brother. Her brother had 15 people try to jump me. And I defended myself. That was what? >> Okay. >> It The same thing happened about two, three months ago with her mom. Her girlfriend having you into where everything else under her mom. It's just a bad family to try and get into. And I got two kids. I got no choice on that. Not having them today. Now, if the mom and the brother that want to try to call the cops on you Apparently, when you sick 15 people on somebody, you're not supposed to try and defend yourself. >> But, do you know why they're trying to detain her, too? >> For whatever I mean, just to interview her, I think, really. That's all I Oh, it's that really was just to interview you two. >> Cuz they tried to jump me, and I pulled out a knife. >> There you go. >> I went for the arm as much as I could. About two times, and I pulled back the knife away, and they left. I was like, "You're good. >> Got my >> Officers noted glaring inconsistencies [music] in Isaac's statements, some of which bordered on the absurd. The level of force used was inconsistent with a defensive reaction, instead appearing calculated, raising the possibility that the party had been used as a setup for the attack. >> Can you get him on the phone so he can stop talking? He told me how he stabbed him. And I'm not asking him. >> [laughter] >> So, I told you. >> He told us there was nothing on there when we were talking to him. We're good. >> I just keep saying I don't know or I don't know. >> That's what she was She was telling me. She's like, "I don't know." She's like, "I don't know what's what's going on." I said, "You're just being detained right now for investigative purposes in the county." I don't know nothing. I can't disclose with you what's going on because it's all happening. >> I literally keep saying all I know is we had to come out here and detain him so he can be interviewed. I'm done. So, I ain't it. >> She doesn't even know. She She's like, "We were there. We left. I don't know why Isaac did something or did something." I was like, >> He's saying that she got jumped by her brother. Or that he got jumped by her brother. That's what he keeps saying. I'm like, "He said I had to defend myself." At first he was like, He didn't say he stabbed him, but then he just said he stabbed him. And so, I stopped >> from the absurd. >> It's called >> We got a search warrant for the residence and the vehicles, uh just based upon what happened. So, >> A search warrant for the vehicles and the residence? >> Yes. >> Okay, what are we looking for? >> Evidence that I don't know why this [music] all happened today. So, >> [sighs] >> Okay-dokey. >> [music] >> So, what we're going to go We'll go in >> They were going to try breaking his car. His key should be [music] in here. >> Yeah, his keys, that would be fantastic. >> He was on a lanyard. Uh he had it with him. I It's with his evidence. >> Does he have another key to it? >> No, there was only one key. >> All right. Okay. >> We just have everybody just kind of hang out right in this area. We just got to make sure that there's no firearms, things like that, in the general vicinity. >> Uh my firearms are in my gun cabinet. >> Okay. With suspicions surrounding the weapon used in the killing of the victim, identified as Charles Starner, officers began a search inside the home. When the suspect's mother was questioned about the damage to the rear windows of the vehicle, she revealed a concerning detail. Isaac's anger was a constant issue, one that had the potential to turn destructive without warning. >> It's good to know. So, you want to search the whole house? >> Yeah, we've got a search warrant for the whole house. >> For what? >> And all of the vehicles out here. >> What are you searching for? >> Well, it's it's in regards to a homicide. [snorts] >> A homicide? So, what exactly >> We're looking for >> Guns? >> Any evidence pertains to it. I couldn't really tell you more of why he said that the Hawkins County detective will come and talk to you guys. >> Okay. >> And give you a little bit better idea. >> I'm Detective Sumner with the Hawkins County Sheriff's Office. Um I believe that the Springfield County detectives have informed you we're here for a search warrant um out of a homicide that took place in our county. I'm going to read you your statement of Miranda rights just because at this point in time you're not free to go. I do have a couple questions to ask of you, okay? Do you know where Isaac and Sabre were at last night? >> I have no clue. >> Okay. Um do you know what time they arrived back at the home? >> Uh they showed up at about 5:00 cuz they woke me up beating on the door. >> Did they say anything when they entered the home? Did you notice anything about their clothing or anything that seemed out of sorts? >> No, >> [laughter] >> I wasn't paying attention. I was sleeping. >> on their clothing. >> You know, they Isaac drinks just about every weekend. >> To the point of intoxication? >> Sometimes. >> Okay. As a the condition of the vehicle outside, have you seen it? >> Oh, [music] yeah. >> Is it >> Well, not today. I haven't here yesterday, but >> Okay. Is it always missing Has it been missing that back window for some time? >> For about 2 weeks. >> Like a couple weeks? >> Yeah. >> And what happened with that? >> Uh he was trying to pull a girl out of a a ditch at uh Sabre's friend's house or something. >> Someone Sabre knew. >> [music] >> And he accidentally backed his car into her car and he got mad and punched the back glass. >> When he came in tonight, did you notice any blood or anything on his clothing, either one of their clothing? >> No, wasn't paying attention. That's >> Is he known to carry any weapons on him? Does he have access to weapons? Does he have a gun registered to his name? >> No, the only The only guns in the whole house are my guns and they're locked. >> At this point, officers sought more information about whether Isaac had access to any weapons within the family. According to the autopsy, Charles had stabbed multiple times, which led officers to question where the weapon might be. >> Go through those to make sure they're all there. >> Uh he can't get in there, but now I I haven't probably had them in my gun safe for a over a year, year and a half. >> Okay. >> But I don't have very many guns. I have two uh old .303s, which are uh like military rifles. >> Mhm. >> And then I think there's a there's a BB gun in there. And a over under .410 .22 and I think that's all that's in there. >> Okay. Um how about like does he carry a pocket knife on him regularly or a knife of any type? Does he have any type of hunting knives? >> Um he has a couple uh like pocket knives. >> Ones you like open with your thumb? >> Folding knives? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Like he would use at work [music] or just whatever. >> Okay. So, I'm sure they have explained to you, but we have a search warrant. We're looking for a weapon at this point. Um there was a some type of altercation that took place. They were out at a cabin in Hocking County. Um during that altercation, a gentleman was stabbed multiple times. Um he has passed as of this morning. They both were transported back to Hocking County. they're going to be held um in the regional jail and then they will have an arraignment and likely both face charges. >> What happened? >> A heavy pill to swallow first thing in the morning, you don't expect to be waking up like this and you certainly don't expect to get that kind of news. That's why we're kind of trying to put a timeline together, piece everything, see where he was at, where he went when he left the scene because we have about 11 witnesses that say they fled together. And we're trying to kind of develop a timeline at this point see what happened, where they went, who knows what, those things. So the inventory, we're going to first do the search warrant on the car, take full inventory. Like I said, we're looking for the weapon used at this point and then they will likely come into the home to serve search. >> Officers went to the home of a young resident identified as a friend of Isaac. There the witness stated that Isaac had arrived unexpectedly. According to him, Isaac appeared nervous and gave few details but admitted to having seriously hurt someone during a fight. A crucial piece of evidence that officers needed to confirm the couple's involvement in the >> So what's going on? >> So my friend showed up to my house at like 3:00 in the morning in the morning. >> Who's your friend? >> Isaac Pence. >> Pence? >> Yeah, I didn't hear about the news that it actually happened until this morning. My friend called me said he was at the hospital and he was here, said that he got jumped at a party and he had to stab someone. And he was freaking out and I was like you need to leave and call the cops cuz I don't want it here and he threw the knife that way. I have one camera and there's also one in my drawer but I didn't touch them. I was going to bed. I don't know >> Been across the street somewhere? >> No, he was standing right here and he threw it. >> Show me about like where you're thinking. >> I'm thinking either >> Where's the one that you're seeing, that red one? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Sorry about my dog. >> No, no, it's perfectly fine. I'm used to doggies. Where do you think he was standing, like in this vicinity? >> Right here. >> And uh >> I threw it from here. >> And I heard it either these bushes or up there, possibly sticks. >> But you don't think he threw it and then just threw it like this? >> No. >> So you saw him toss this one on camera? >> Toss this one. He was in His car was about right here and he threw it down, right? >> And then this other one you say somewhere over there? >> Right over here, yeah. I didn't want to try to look for it. >> I see footprints. Did you happen to walk through there? >> over there. >> And you didn't see anything? >> I just looked by the bushes. >> Okay. All right, buddy. Um so what I'll have you do is uh just fill out a quick statement on a sheet of paper on what happened. And um then uh we will if you're fine, we will uh just have you pull the video and then we can send it out to an email, okay? But you don't have to do that right now. I'll just We'll come over here and I'll get you a statement form. Okay, so this looks like another detective here. And um what since he's here >> be alone. So yeah. >> What's that? >> In the end, on August 26th, 2024, Isaac Pence was charged with murder, two counts of felonious assault, obstruction of [music] justice, and tampering with evidence and was sentenced to 18 years to life in prison. Meanwhile, Sabre Flag was charged with a fifth-degree felony. As the investigation unfolded, a third suspect was identified, Bryce England, [music] who was arrested for misconduct at the scene of an emergency and later released on bail. Next, when a call leads officers to a disturbing scene involving a suspect who refused to accept the end of a marriage that had lasted for decades. >> What's going on? >> I just got my wife inside and she's yelling at me and we were arguing. >> And what happened after that? >> I don't know. That's what was going on. >> What did he say to you? >> I I told my wife >> On October 2nd, 2025, officers were dispatched to an emergency 911 call after a woman reported that her friend had been seriously injured inside a car following a confrontation with her husband who refused to accept the end of their decades-long marriage. What she didn't realize was that the man she once trusted had been hiding something far more dangerous until that mask finally slipped. >> Hi. Just so you know, I got a body cam. What's going on? What do you mean you just your wife? Okay. What happened? Can you come up here for me? Okay. Do you live back here? Do you live here? >> No, no. Uh lady that walked down here with me does. >> Okay. So, who is that lady? What do you have all over you? Okay. Let's step over here, okay? She's down there in the car. Okay. What happened today? What do you mean a long-term thing? >> We're getting a divorce. >> Okay. What's her name? She lives with you on Holly Brook? >> We were she was in the process of moving in. >> Okay. Okay. >> She She was in the hospital. And she called a lawyer. >> And she what? >> She had had a severe wreck. >> Okay. >> And she was in the hospital in Chicago. >> Okay. >> But she's been She's been back about uh >> 5-10-5 I'm out. >> 2 months or so. I can't remember the date. >> Okay. >> The suspect cooperated with the investigation without hesitation. His simple answers raised doubts about whether the crime could have been premeditated, especially since that route was not common for the couple, or whether it was simply a coincidence that escalated from an argument into a tragic outcome. >> So, what happened today? Why were you down here? >> Uh she's been staying with the lady you talked to here. >> Okay. >> They're home with her. >> Okay, she's been staying down here? >> Uh-huh. >> Okay. And what's that lady's name? Okay. Can I pat you down real quick and make sure you don't have any Do you have a knife on you still? Don't Don't touch anything. Do you have a knife on you still? >> No, I don't. >> Okay. Where is the knife at? Just keep your arms up for me, okay? >> I'm not going to >> No, every I don't want to get it all over me. So, how did Were you driving the car? Okay. So, you drove down here today? >> Yes, I was coming to >> Okay. So, how did it escalate to where we are right now? >> It's It's always been escalating, it seems like. >> Okay. >> 5-10-5 >> But what happened here? >> She started yelling at me, and we were arguing. She tried to scratch me, I guess. I don't know. >> Okay. >> I just lost >> Okay, and what happened after that? >> I just went with the knife. >> Okay. >> The one I had in the car. >> Okay. So, you came to pick her up today? >> Yes, we were going to the to set you up. >> So, you guys got into an argument as you were leaving and she tried to scratch you? >> Well, she yes. >> I didn't know I'd be out helping me. >> She didn't scratch you? >> She tried to. >> Okay. Okay. And then you grabbed the knife that was in the car? >> I did. >> And you cut her throat? >> I I hit her first. And then I got to the knife. >> Okay. Can I ask [music] why it escalated so quickly? Like >> It's It's been going on, ma'am, for longer than I can remember. >> Okay. >> With information about the couple's divorce, officers sought further details on whether this could have been the motive for the crime, taking a calculated approach to understand the suspect's reaction. >> So, how long have you been going through the divorce process? >> We actually are just beginning the divorce process. >> Okay. What would you like here? >> What's your name, sir? Uh the knife in question, it sounds like we don't know. >> He does not have it on him. >> Okay. >> Have him down there stepping on him. >> Uh here's what we're going to do. >> Go ahead. >> Uh let's uh walk up to one of these cars. You patted me down before, but this is Detective I'm going to have him just make sure you don't have that knife on you right now. Okay? Do you have anything on you that could hurt me? You're okay? >> No, I don't. >> Where did you last see that knife? >> It was in the car. >> In the car. Okay. If you're okay with it, will you take him go with him to the TV and then I was going to just start on >> Uh-huh. >> If he If he uh fits down here. Stay with >> Oh, [ __ ] >> Let's go up to the >> We follow them. Ambulance to LS 1. >> Uh >> Have them follow ambulance to LS 1. >> Yeah. Will you follow that ambulance and stay with the victim for me? >> I >> We're going to LS 1. >> Yeah, that's fine. You can go. >> Yep, I'm good with it. >> Following but we'll have him go up there. >> Yep. >> That is what we were provided, yes. >> All right, James. Go ahead and have a seat for me. >> It might be easier if you put your butt down first and then kind of slide in. >> Are you following the ambulance? >> Yeah, I'm going to LS 1. >> I'm going to pull this down and buckle it. >> Okay. >> I don't know. I know I'll be in route to LS 1. >> And you just sit tight. Officer Newman's going to take you down to the police department and I'll meet you there, okay? >> I'm good. >> At this point, investigators returned to the victim's friend who had previously seen the suspect wandering aimlessly along a dirt road. Her account reflected distress as she described feeling helpless, unable to assist her friend in time while the situation was still unfolding. >> She is his friend. >> Was she leaving your house? >> They were involved leaving together. >> They were leaving your house together? >> Yes, together. And they got this far and I don't know what happened. >> He said, "I just couldn't take it anymore." He just snapped. He said, "I couldn't take it anymore." and >> Okay. >> I I don't know. My My body cams on. Okay. >> Um >> And so, he calls you. Can I see that phone call? >> No, he didn't call me. >> I I'm That's my car right there. I take the dog for a walk. >> You just happened to come down here. >> to come down here and I'm like, "Holy crap, what happened?" >> All right. Okay. And was he in the When you came down here, what did you see? >> back to our house. >> He was walking and when you saw her, was this where she was at? >> Yes. >> Okay. You She was already on the ground? >> Already on the ground. Non-responsive. >> Okay. And he was walking back up to you? >> Yes. And he said to you >> I I killed my wife. >> Killed your wife. Okay. >> Did you know him? >> Yeah, I I know Jim. >> What's your relationship? >> He's my >> Okay. Is he married to her? Let's step over here. >> the process of a divorce. >> Okay. >> And Oh my >> And they >> He's out there. >> That's okay. >> Okay. >> I can now. >> Yep. >> So they came I'll just ask you some similar questions since I wasn't here for this call. >> Okay. All right. >> Okay. And you're with him? >> Yeah, it's that's done. >> Okay. And they came over this morning? >> Uh she's staying with me. She's been here for a week. >> I see. Okay. >> And he came over this morning. They were going down to the bank to settle some finances in in pursuit of the divorce. >> So was he was she expecting him to come over this morning? >> Yes, absolutely. >> Okay. >> And he honked. I I was on the deck with her. She She said, "I'll see you after the thing." I okay. >> Okay. >> And so I I I thought everything was fine. I was just going to take my dog for a walk. He was walking back towards our house with on his shirt and I could didn't see then, but I said, "Jim, what's happened?" And he said, "I just killed my wife.
