So, there's video of you pulling lot tickets >> that I paid for. I got it through transaction. >> No payments. >> All my transactions from Speedway. >> Oh, no. >> Okay. Those are different days. >> Then you're under us. >> That's fine. Can I get my >> stuff? >> Sometimes Pride convinces employees that they're one step ahead, even of the system itself. But what happens when an employee believes no one is watching and the cameras capture everything? I've been taking money to buy secret stuff for me and my little sister for a little while. I've never been in any type [music] of trouble in my life. I'm so scared. >> These were the moments when dumb employees realized their scam was caught on camera. We start with a case where officers responded to a call involving a sly woman who was trying to scam her workplace, but she didn't realize that her routine had already been recorded. >> Do you know why we're here? >> No. >> No. So, there's video of you pulling lotto tickets >> that I paid for the video. I didn't see any payments. >> I don't know why you didn't cuz I got all my transactions. No, I'm telling you the truth. >> I don't I mean, this video footage, but I got all type of transactions. I don't have to steal anything. I pay for everything. >> On August 6th, 2025, officers in Joliet were called to a Speedway gas station after reports that one of their own employees had been quietly cashing in thousands of dollars in stolen lottery tickets. Are you Shenica? >> Yeah. >> Can we talk to you in the back really quick? >> What's the first name? >> Shenica. >> Shenica, can you go to the left? Right over here. >> What? >> Right over here. Back here. So, you know why we're here by chance? >> No. >> No. So, there's video of you pulling lot tickets >> that I paid for. I got it on transaction. >> No payments. >> Yeah, I did pay for pull up some transaction. >> I sure can. You want me to go get my my phone? >> Where's it at? >> My phone is there in the front. >> Where at? >> On the counter. >> What color? Does it have a case on it? >> Yeah. So, >> you're saying you paid for all these >> all tickets and I do. >> Okay. >> Cuz I got proof cuz I from Price Price scanner phone. >> Cuz my video I didn't see any payments. It was >> I don't know why you did it cuz I got all my transactions. >> Can you pull that video up so we can go over it again? >> The suspect was identified as 38-year-old Chenica Gray. And from the moment officers arrived, it was clear something wasn't right. She was escorted to the back office where her nerves immediately started to show. You could see her eyes darting around trying to piece together a story that might save her. But what Chenika didn't realize was that detectives already had all the proof they needed. Security footage showed her slipping lottery tickets beneath the counter, scanning them on her phone, and then casually tossing away the losers as if no one would ever notice. >> May the 21st, $850 transfer $650 to my cash out, which I paid the 650 right there. 650. >> Where's the cash out transaction? I just showed it to you. I transferred from my I transferred the money from my cash app to my Visa card. >> Okay. Where's the transaction on the Visa card? >> I just show >> at the store though. 850. >> That's crazy. >> I'd rather just be straight up. >> No, I'm telling you the truth. I don't I mean it's video foot, but I got all type of transactions. Don't see them to the store. >> You said on which day? >> The 21st. >> 21st. $850 and the >> 30th $600. 5:08 a.m. >> Say 30. >> $600 on the 30th. >> Speedway 50, Speedway 20. >> Now, these all the transactions don't give you for Speedway. I don't have to steal anything. I pay for everything. >> Okay. >> So, how many transactions did you make >> to end up to the 600 or whatever dollars? >> All my transactions from Speedway. >> All of them. >> Okay. Those are different days. We're talking about two separate days where two separate transactions came out. >> And the 30th, >> the 21st. >> Yep. >> But I don't have I wish I had kept the receipts, but it's not on. When officers pressed her for answers, Chenica tried to talk her way out, pulling up old receipts, insisting she'd done nothing wrong, but the dates didn't match, and the lies started collapsing in real time. >> Oh, then you're under us. >> That's fine. Can I get my stuff? I'll get out later time. >> Okay. >> Can I take your phone? I'll hold on to it for you. Okay. >> Put your hands on how, but Okay. >> Can I go out the back and not the front? >> You have an idea on you at all? It's in my purse. There's your purse in the front. That's what I was saying. Can I get it? Go through it. >> My partner's going to search you quick. >> That is crazy right there. >> Step up for me. >> You're fine. >> You Your legs work though, right? Your legs tight though. I'm >> Are you guys able to send a flash drive with us? >> Do you have anything on you? Needles, weapons, anything? >> Just a question I have to ask. Okay. If you don't, now I do. >> I mean, it's just crazy right now. >> And again, right now, it's just not adding up. If you have the evidence to show you didn't do it, then right now I'm got got to go to court, right? >> Go to court at court. >> Yeah. >> You can prove it at court, then not a big deal. >> How long you been working here? >> I only been working here since May. I never took anything. Like seriously, everything that I did was transaction. >> Where'd you work at before you working? This is I don't even do jobs like this. >> Stupid, bro. Like that. >> Thank you. Here. You don't have to pump right there. >> [music] [music] >> After the search, Chenica was led through the gas station in handcuffs, walking past customers who had no idea the cashier they saw every day had just been caught stealing from the very business she worked for. >> Mommy, what? >> Sorry. >> What color is your purse? >> It's black. It's right here. Where all my bags and everything? That's mad. Everything right there. >> Are we able to get >> here? Look, I got you. You're fine. >> Because I don't do this. >> There's nobody in here. So, let's go. >> That's fine. I'm not embarrassed. I can't wait till soon proof. >> Okay, we'll head down and then just so you're aware, I don't know if you ever been arrested before, when we get down to the station, you'll get searched again. That's fine. >> I usually tell people cuz when they get to the station, they're like, "Why are you searching me again?" Yes, I can. I know how it goes. I >> I have family members that's post and lawyers. >> I got family members. That's police officers and lawyers. >> Where are my phone? So >> I have your phone. It's in my pocket. I'll give it to you. Oh, is it your head? >> No. Just fit. I'll see. That's why I'm like I can't >> I don't know. They're tight. But we're close to the station. When we get to the station, they'll come off. Okay. >> Here. Put your feet like There you go. That's better. I'mma put this on you. You >> turn on some air cuz I'm adding for you. Okay. >> In the end, Chenica Gray was arrested and booked on two counts of theft. Do you think she learned her lesson or just felt unlucky for getting caught? Moving on to the next case where an employee thought she could get away with her scheme only to discover that cameras had captured everything. >> Oh my goodness. >> Lost my lost my teeth. [ __ ] my teeth. [ __ ] my >> Yeah. >> I don't even know. >> I don't even know. I just came here to search. >> Sir, >> from this right here, >> sir. >> That you haven't answer this question. >> Jamaya, >> you you never seen >> Answer my question. >> On August 15th, 2025, West Palm Beach police responded to a call from a Wawa store regarding a suspected employee theft. The investigation began after the store manager noticed irregularities and suspected that a cashier had been diverting money from the register. >> Hello. >> Is the manager back there? >> She's the >> Did she leave? >> She she sprinted. Okay. Yeah. All right. >> She went get it. >> What um what did she take? Do you know? So, um, at this one she, um, she does a gift card and she brings a gift card through and then doesn't put any cash in the chill. And then there were other incidents where she, um, avoids items and then puts the cash underneath her um, >> is an employee. >> An employee. >> Oh, it's an employee. Okay. Did you guys just like confront her about it today or something or >> So, yeah. Lost mention was on the phone with her and then before you could even get her to give a statement, she went book it. >> You gave her a statement over the phone? >> Yeah. >> Okay. The suspect was identified as 19-year-old Tama Diazi, who had been working at the location for less than 4 months and had allegedly stolen at least $750. She drew attention after a pattern of repeated transaction cancellations at the register. When the manager questioned her about the irregularities, Tama's reaction only deepened the suspicions. And all these incidents, did you have it on video? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> So, a lot of these are voids. So, she would bring the customer through. >> Okay. >> Void it >> and then um [music] take the money. >> Okay. And >> instead of cashing out the customer, >> so she would ring them, act like they were or ring them up, void it out of the register and >> they would give her the money and then she would void it >> out of the register and then take >> cash it out and she would take the cash. >> Yeah. So she the way she does is she's sneaky. She puts So if they need a receipt, she'll put like a cup of ice in 50 cents. >> So it still through the register and then she'll just void the other item that she's taking the money. >> Okay, hold on. So she brings up So the customer gets two cartons of cigarettes in Newports. >> Two Newports. Okay. >> And a um large mixed fruit. And then she puts that cup of ice co that cup of ice code in. >> And then what she does is she'll cancel the she the customer paid cash. >> Okay. >> So she cancelled before she hit cash [music] she cancelled um out the the cigarettes. >> She canceled out the cigarette. Yeah. >> Okay. and then um puts it in under like an unknown, but she canceled it. And then she just keeps the cash [music] after she cashes it out. >> Okay. And and you said all this is on video. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> And then she takes the cash out of the register. >> Then she puts the cash on the left hand side of the till. >> Okay. >> And then later on around like 8:42, she'll do like a um a [music] safe drop where we have to drop our 20s and everything like that. Okay. And then she'll bundle up some of them and put them under her phone and then the rest is on top, but she's doing the the traps. >> At this point, officers realized that Tama was unlikely to return to work after being confronted by supervisors. As a result, acting quickly to locate her became crucial, as there was a real risk she might flee. But Tamia's reaction would soon raise even more questions. >> Hello. Amaya home by chance, >> Tamaya. Yeah, we have this at her listed address. >> No. >> So, Timaya the Asia, >> what happened? >> Is she here or not? Hey, Deasa. How's it going? Hey, we got to talk to you about something real quick. >> You're Tasa, right? >> Tasia. >> Yeah. Tamaya. >> Tamaya. Yes. >> Yeah. All right. If if you don't mind setting that down for me. >> Oh my goodness. >> I'll explain. I'll explain it to you. I'll explain it to you. I'll explain it to you. I'll explain it to you. >> I'll explain everything to you. How Hey, how are you? Is that mom or you sister? >> Grandma. >> Okay. Are you related to her or no? >> I'm her girlfriend. >> Oh, okay. >> I'm her grandma. >> We're Thank you. Uh, so I don't know the details of the case, right? But at one point at one point she made a mistake, you know, involved some fraudulent activity as far as I know cuz I'm not the investigating officer. >> Mhm. >> But there's there's active pros as far. Okay. So we come, we make contact. Um I mean if you like a followup, we can give you a call back with more details. I'm sure she she'll bond out and explain everything to you. fraudulent activity. That's my >> like something with with like I said, I'm not investigating officer, but all I see is that she has a active problem cause her arrest. So, I go pick her up. Okay. >> Go sit up. Just face the face. >> Anything on you? >> Anything on you? >> She has a problem. >> Problem is arrested. That's why we came to pick her up. He's going to get the details on the plane. Just give him a second. Please call. Thank you. >> How are you going to help me? Go >> ahead. In the meantime, you want to grab her. >> At this point, the weight of what had unfolded began to settle on Tomia. The explanations she had leaned on no longer held, and the pattern she had tried to minimize was quietly taking shape around her. As the reality set in, her composure gave way and it became clear that this was no longer something she could talk her way out of. >> So, she being arrested? >> Yeah. As of right now, she's under arrest. >> Yeah. >> Like go to jail. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Yeah. So, she still has to get booked and go through the judiciary process, you know, this um she gets bugged, postponed, and then, you know, gets released. Hopefully if everything checks out unless she's in probation for anything or anything like that and then you know they you know it's between the state attorney's office and and and the case you know and her and all right >> you know your phone number >> you know >> okay >> but I ain't got the um >> yeah I'm sorry I mean >> as the investigation progressed options were running out for Tama the only path forward was the truth or so it seemed with each question she attempted to distance hers herself from responsibility, presenting an image of innocence while downplaying how often it had happened, as if uncertainty could erase a pattern. Investigators began to piece together the true scope of Tamia's actions. A pattern so extensive that even she seemed momentarily unsettled. In that moment, the true scale of her actions became impossible to ignore, revealing a scheme far larger than anyone initially suspected. So, I was assigned a case involving Wawa. My understanding is that you are an employee of Wawa, right, for about 4 months. What happened there? >> He was basically saying that I was voiding something. >> Mhm. >> And putting it on a gift card or whatever. But >> I'm sorry to I didn't hear what you just said. >> He said I was voiding something. >> Voiding? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Did he tell you what you were voiding? >> Um no. And then he was like asking me like um [snorts] what was I doing with the the money that I was voiding with or whatever. >> Uhhuh. But I don't you need a manager to void. I didn't know I didn't know how to void or anything. So I didn't know what he was talking about. But then he was like, you know, you do know what I'm talking about. And then he was like, oh, you've been voiding stuff and putting it on a gift card, some stuff like that. But the only thing that I've ever like, you listening? >> I am listening. >> I just want to show you exactly what he's talking about. Go ahead. >> Yeah. So the only thing that I ever put on a gift card is like tips. And he never told me that I couldn't put my tips on the gift card. How many times did you put your tips in a gift card? >> Uh, how many times have I got a tip? Hold on. >> You need help? >> No. Okay. >> How many times I got a tip? How many? >> About how many times? Estimated. >> I get tips all the time. >> One, four. >> Five times? 10 times? How many times have you put your tips on a gift card? >> Every time I get a tip like I always get a tip, no matter how how long I work, whenever I >> But can you estimate how many times did you get a tip? Uh probably like >> I didn't really start accepting well I didn't really start knowing that I can get tips until employee told me and that was in August. >> In August? >> Yeah. >> So you started receiving tips in August? >> No. I was been receiving tips but I didn't know that I could take the tips until an employee told me like hey you can't actually get the tips instead of like putting it into while I was moving. I was like kind of like okay >> so let me let me tell you exactly what it is so that way you save time. I know this is very unconventional um because we're here. I'm working, you know, this detail and I want to be fair to you. Okay? I'm a reasonable person. >> But you voided a cup of ice 76 times. >> A cup of ice. >> You you voided transactions and you charged for a cup of ice 76 times. Why did you do that? There's got to be an answer cuz if you want me to be honest with you, you got to be honest with me. >> At this point, Tama still believed she was navigating questions, not conclusions. She didn't realize how much had already been documented. The focus then narrowed to a single transaction, a customer purchasing over $200 in items, leaving the store, and a void entered moments later. When asked about it, she hesitated, claimed she couldn't recall the moment, then offered an explanation that drifted from what the footage showed. The video kept playing. her composure did not. >> So, let me just to show you an example. >> All right. So, this is your receipt. This is you. You were on the cashier. >> Do you recall this transaction? A lady purchased. And I know this is from July July 6, but a lady purchased a carton of cigarettes 9735. >> Another carton of cigarettes 9735 and large bowl of fruit. You cancelled >> the cardinal cigarette, the cardinal cigarette, the fruit bowl, and you rung up a cup of ice. Do you recall that transaction? >> No. What if I told you that you took the $200 that that lady gave you and you counted it on camera and you put that money to the side inside your drawer? Do you recall that? >> Yeah, I recall. I always take money and put it inside my drawer. Okay. So, why did you cancel those three items and the lady walked out with those three items? >> Sir, like I told you, I was never trained on the register and the register had a lot of counter problems. So, if I did No, I'm not going to say if I did it. >> Do Do we agree that you cancel three items here? At least in this example, >> I don't know. >> When you look at your name and you look at the three items, do you see where it says cancel? >> Yes. >> Right. So, do we agree that you cancel those three items? Like I said, sir, I was never trained on a register, >> right? >> So, >> I know. I know. Tamaya, >> if I took the money and I put it in the register, how >> I don't know, Tamaya, you're the only person that has that answer. All I can do is be honest with you >> so that if you're honest with me, I can let the state attorney's office know, listen, she was honest with me and this is this is out of character for her. And I can do that. I cannot promise you anything, but I certainly can do that and I will. I cannot do that because right now I'm leaning towards you're not cooperating. >> So, but you're not telling me the truth. You know why you're not telling me the truth? >> Cuz he gave me it was 76 times that I counted and he printed all of the receipts. So, all of these receipts that I have here >> are and then let me show you are receipts that you you for some reason you cancel those transactions. So, here's one with the gift card, right? So here we see Timaya. We see the date. This was 81 2025. This man purchased a Heineken. Do you recall that? >> Mhm. >> Huh? You recall it or I mean I don't. He purchased a Heineken. See the sale >> of a Visa. Well, purchased a Heineken. Then you cancelled it. Then you rung up a $100 Visa card. >> Do you recall that transaction? The situation quickly escalated. Tama's tone shifted from evasive to confrontational as she began arguing with the officer. What started as quiet deflection turned into open resistance, her frustration rising with every question, even as the evidence continued to close in around her. You cancel. So, let me show you receipts. Here's another receipt. >> Mhm. >> You cancel cancel all of those items. >> And what did the camera? You took the money. >> I took the money. Why did How could you say that? I took the money. You cancel it 26 times. >> Okay. You said 76. >> Yeah. When I count So, so for the record >> Mhm. >> I have a staple, >> but here's here's here's one receipt. Let me uh >> You don't have to count it. I'm actually >> No, no, I'm just going to show you everything they gave me. >> Uh-huh. >> Cancelled. >> Mhm. >> Sale of a couple of bikes. >> Mhm. >> You were very good at it, Taya. >> Actually, I want to tell you, you were very good at it. Even in your mannerisms, I even told him is uh Broxen. I think Roxson is Roxson. I said she's very good. She's very good at the cashier. Like you're very smooth. >> No, I actually here. Cancel. Cancel. 50 cents cup of ice. >> Okay. Your story. >> So it's 76 times. You said 76. >> That's not an accident. >> No, I never said it was an accident day. Did I? >> No. I never said it was accident. You're not taking ownership. But I don't know what you want me to take ownership in. >> I want to know where the money went. >> Okay. You want to know where it went? Okay. You want to know where the money where if you see me put the money in the register, then what do you mean where the money went? >> And then if if if I canceled it 76 if I canceled it 76 times and you said that I rung up a gift card for hundred and something dollars. Are what are like you're trying to say $100? >> $100. Are you trying to say that that's where money went? I'm just asking. >> No, Tam, this is what I'm not going to allow you to do. >> I'm telling you the truth with there's a police report. >> Uhhuh. >> I know about the police report. >> Okay. So that so it's up to you how much how much you want to talk to me. There's a police report that they did. >> Mr. He's a certified fraud examiner. >> He did his investigation and after he did that he calls the police. >> Okay. >> So when I show up to let me finish. >> So when I show up >> he already has video and he has receipts. >> Okay. And now I'm asking you on the video, did you ever see me take the money? Yes or no? >> Yes. >> You never >> You took $200 from this right here, >> sir. And that you have Answer this question. >> Jamaya, >> you you never seen >> Answer my question. >> Yes. >> I you as you asked me a question and I was truthful. I saw you count the 20 >> $200. And where did I put them? >> You put them in So if this is the drawer, you put them right here away from the 20s. >> I put them away from the 20. >> So if you have 20s, tens, and everything else, you put this in a completely different spot. >> Then this is what you did. I'm going to tell you. >> Uhhuh. >> Amaya, this is what's going to happen. >> If I'm communicating with you, I already watched the video and I know your actions. So, I just want you to be set free. >> I I'm trying to be honest, but I'm trying to understand what >> No, this is this is this is the truth. >> While the officer carefully narrated what the cameras showed, Tamia repeatedly contradicted him, crafting an alternate story. Her arrogance grew with each exchange, flipping the roles and treating the interrogation as if she were in control. [music] A shift that visibly pushed the officer's patience to its limit. >> So, at 9:07, you grab cash from the drawer. This is just one example. >> Mhm. >> There's several of them. M >> you cash the you grab the cash from the drawer. >> You also grab the $200. >> You conceal. You go and get the the the uh you uh the do a night the drop underneath where you put each $20 bill. >> Right. But you keep the $200. >> I keep the $200. >> Yes. And then you go get your cell phone. Hold on. Then your cell phone is over here to the left of the counter. Mhm. >> Then you get the the cell phone and you still have the $200 concealed underneath your cell phone. >> Okay, sir. Now I'm going to I'm going to actually I'm not going to ask you anything. >> Yeah. >> Um so when I do a safe drop, before I do a safe drop, when I do a safe drop, >> and now that you said it was 9:07, so that mean I was leaving at either 9 or 10. >> Um that's supposed for me to go home. >> So when you when I do safe drops, I take my tip money out. I count my tip money out and I keep my tip money with me. Now, let me tell you how the gift card came about. So, listen. No, no, no, no, no, no. Listen to me. I'm trying to explain. I know it's two different, but I'm trying to explain it to you. So, when I was talking with my manager one day, right, she was telling me when when I told her, you know, like I get tips or whatever and like when you're talking for me to do my account, then that's when I take my tips out my account, right? She says, "Oh, um, why that?" She was like, "That that makes you look suspicious." She was like, "Actually, don't do that because Carrie wouldn't like uh you taking your tips out the register." So whenever someone give you a tip, either just take it or you can just add all your tips up and put your tips on the gift card. So I'm like, "Oh, okay. Put my tips on the gift card." So then when I started counting my tips, like close for close to the time that it was time for me to go or whatever, I count my tips and I put my tips on the gift card. So that way I don't have to drop any money in the in the um I don't have to take any money. So it looks like I'm taking any money out of the drawer. And that's um like I said, when you talk to the managers or the the managers that I each shift that I >> Mr. Carabio, can I borrow your brain for 30 seconds? >> At this point, she tried to flip the narrative, insisting she never did it and claiming the cash drawers were never empty. Officers countered her statements with clear evidence, laying out the facts piece by piece. Still, she clung to the lie, maintaining the facade, even as the proof made her story impossible to defend. >> I took the money, right? In order for me to void something out, you need a manager fingerprint. I don't know a manager fingerprint. So, when he's saying I ring up a couple, I I don't know. I don't. >> You didn't avoid it tonight. You cancelled it. Listen. >> Avoid is different. You cancelled it while the transaction was open. I You're not being truthful. Listen to me. I'm not allowed. >> Okay. >> You can't I watched you on the video. Cancel it. >> You didn't watch me on Sir. >> I wouldn't lie to you, >> sir. Sir, I know that you're a detective and I know you >> Nope. It's the truth. I would lie to you. You >> cancel. You never watch Sir, I'm telling you to your face. You never watch me on a video cancel order. I'm telling you that because if you >> those receipts, >> okay, >> I understand what the paper's saying, but on a video, even if >> you're not even acknowledging that you're wrong a couple times, >> um the video the the stuff that he's talking about with me taking the money that's in the drawer. That's before if you look at the evidence, that's before I knew about my gift cards, right? >> Anytime I got a tip and it was time for me to do a safe job, I Yes, I did take my money. But if you go over the records of Waw Wa um drawer count or whatever, my drawer never ever came up short because I always added my tips up or I let my manager know my amount of my tips. She'll count my drawer and you know she'll do her job basically and she let me okay it's okay. Now, like I said, I have well, not just saying you can't do any, not necessarily saying you can't do anything, but in my proof, there's managers that I've worked with, that I've talked to about this situation when it was brought to my attention, and they all told me the same thing. If anything ever happened, let us know because this isn't what they're trying to pin on me or what they're trying to say is not true. >> Okay? >> And I did um what did she tell me to let you know? >> Um there is a manager there that I actually got into it with to where she started doing like little funny stuff and I kept track of that too. So I'm not going no it's the truth. >> You never watch Sir I'm telling you to your face. You never watch me on a video cancel order. I'm telling you that because if you >> those receipts, >> okay, >> the officers made one final attempt to understand her motives, giving her another chance to explain. Instead, she continued to dodge the truth, offering half answers and contradictions that only deepened the investigation. Each refusal made their job harder, but her fate was already sealed. The evidence was undeniable and no excuse, no justification, no carefully chosen words could change what was coming. Arrest was no longer a possibility. It was inevitable. >> Please explain to me why you charge 50 cents of a cup of ice >> over over 25. >> Sir, like I said, I was not trained on the register. It's a simple question. Another a lot of problems. I do not ever It's over 25 times. >> Okay. And that's and that's where and then if they see and that's where someone should have talked to me and asked me you know what am I doing that's that that why does that keep coming up and saying that I don't I don't know I don't I was not trained on the register right for me to even know how to even bring up a cup of a cup of ice you can't scan a cup of ice >> you were very on the register I don't >> you were extremely smooth on that register >> you were very good >> it's not sir like I said I was not trained on the register I paid attention to other employees to where I know how to take the money put the money on a as and do my job. >> Um, I still have a question and I don't understand the cup of ice >> over 25 times. Well, you did it. I don't understand why you did drops concealing $200 underneath your >> How could you listen to me? How could you tell me that I dropped two? I took $200. Did you You see me count every 20? >> It's separate. >> It's separate. >> It's all separate. >> What do you mean it's separate? When you have When you have 20s in your hand, I'm doing a drop. I take every single 20. So, how could you sit here and tell me that I took specifically $200? >> Cuz I saw you put them to the side. You saw me put them to If I grabbed, like you said, if I grab a drop of 20s, it's a whole bunch of 20s in my hand. Right or wrong? >> How could you specifically say I I I I took $200? If there's a whole bunch of 20s in my hand, how would Even if one of those 20s slipped up or anything? How could you say that I took the $20? All the >> Sorry, I'm not following what you're saying. >> Me either. >> This customer gave you $200 in 20. >> I don't want to talk about you. Have a nice night. No problem. >> Thank you. Have a nice night. In the end, Tama Dia was arrested and charged with one count of felony grand theft and one count of felony organized scheme to defraud. Up next, we have where a woman's attempt to help her family would soon become a costly mistake. One she didn't realize was unfolding in full view of the cameras. >> So, I'm going to get my second. >> So, you will be going to jail today? >> Who's not burning me out? >> You'll have to make a phone call from the jail. And how were you doing this? >> The first I just took cash and then I was just getting the gift card. Unfortunately, >> is there anything I can do? >> On November 11th, 2024, officers received a call about an 18-year-old grocery store employee, not for a robbery in progress, but [music] for a theft unfolding quietly behind the register. For months, the store's owner had noticed a steady disappearance of cash paired with an unusual increase in gift card transactions. By the time authorities were contacted, the losses had accumulated to nearly $20,000. since uh August 19th until November 5th, she has been activating gift cards without paying for them and keeping the gift cards for herself and that's a total of 17 uh 1,724.95 of losses that she has been causing. >> Okay. >> Um now she also said that she had taken about $300 in cash. Now I don't have any evidence of that. It was just verbally also. >> Okay. Sorry. >> Okay. What's the hanger inside? That's just for >> the suspect was an 18-year-old woman who had been working at the grocery store for several months, blending into the routine of the register. At that moment, an officer sat down with her. His questions no longer exploratory, but [music] measured. The kind that assume the answers are already known. >> How you doing? What's your name? >> I'm Deputy Kramer. I'm here obviously in relation to the incident that's been going on with you and your employer at this point in time. You have the right to remain silent. [music] Anything you say can or will be used against arrested. >> I know. Just listen to me. Okay. Just listen to me. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law. With these rights in mind, do you wish to answer questions? >> Yes. >> Yes. Okay. So, what's what's been going on? I've been taking money to buy stuff for me and my little sister for a little while. >> Okay. You said you're taking it to buy food for your little sister and you. >> Nobody ever been in. [laughter] >> Okay, calm down. >> Never been in any type of trouble in my life. I'm so scared. >> What's the home life situation like? Is it Is it just you and your sister or >> It's my mom. She works a lot. So, she's not really there. So, it's basically me and my sister, but she's with my older sister right now cuz my mom's at work and I'm at work. So, I'm getting arrested. >> So, you will be going to jail today. >> Who's going to pardon me out? >> You'll have to make a phone call from the jail. Okay. >> Why am I getting arrested? >> So, the your employer wanted to pursue charges. >> I wanted to pursue charges. >> Do you know the total dollar amount of money you took? He told me to >> How much do you think you took? >> Like a th000 maybe in total. >> Okay. >> And how were you doing this? >> The first I just took cash and then I was just scanning the gift card. >> So you'd scan the gift card and do what? >> Just been in the mountain that I needed. >> Okay. I don't know my mom. I never been in trouble. I'm not thinking of freaking out cuz I don't think you're going to get me out. >> When did this start happening? >> Maybe like a month or two months ago, maybe. But it wasn't like an everyday thing. >> How many times a day would you do this? >> Probably like three three times with the cars. >> Despite stealing for months, she appeared shocked when the consequences finally confronted her. The suspect's expression soon turned into a breakdown of crying, her hands trembling, and regret was visible in her eyes. >> So, you probably won't get out till you probably had to spend the night, and you'll get out first thing in the morning. You have to see a judge in the morning. Okay. [laughter] >> I said, [crying] unfortunately, [snorts] >> is there anything I can do so you won't press charges? Unfortunately, this is what the company wants to do. >> Can I have your driver's license here? Can you? >> Yep. We're going to we're going to walk out. We're going to talk to her out there. Okay. So, I'm going to take you up to the jail. All right. You'll hang out in there while I write my paperwork and then you'll be turned over to them. They're going to basically put you in with into the system and then you'll see a judge in the morning. >> What time in the morning? >> Around 8:00. >> And then I'll go. If you want to sign here, this just means that you're also trespassed from this location. Okay. They don't want you coming back. If you do, you will be arrested. Okay. Do you want me to search her real quick? Please. You want to stand up against the vehicle real quick? Do you have anything on me that's going to poke me, prick me? Anything that I should be concerned of now? >> No. >> No. >> Okay. Put your hands up here. >> What's your mom look like? >> She's black. She looks old. >> You're going to have to take this off later. Are you okay to just take it off now? >> Yeah. >> We can give it to your mom, too. Care creamer. Spread your feet real quick. >> I think this is her right here. >> Okay. Phone's got to go with him. >> Do you want your phone to go with you >> or do you want your phone? >> So, I'm going to give all of her stuff to you. >> Okay. I'll explain to you kind of what's going on and I'm going to explain to you. Um, but I guess she was caught stealing from from the business. I guess she was charging gift cards and pocketing her gift cards. She's been doing it for a few months now. I guess she also admitted to taking cash as well, but due to the dollar amount, it does constitute a felony. So, we don't have discretion on it. She's got to go. They would they persistent on pursuing charges. So, if you'd like, you can talk to her. Shortly after her mother arrived at the station, officers explained everything and returned her personal belongings. The reality of the situation finally set in. The girl became visibly emotional, not in defiance, but in regret. It was clear she never imagined that the way she chose to help her family would come at such a high cost. Mommy, you got to give me You want to call everybody, you got to call them here. I'mma take my password off so you can get into my phone. >> Come on, everybody. Get me out of here. Call the call. Call everybody that's in my phone. >> Elizabeth, do you want this to go with mom? >> This is just a copy of the trespass. Okay. >> This is the evidence there. >> So, do it a little bit. She'll be able to give you a phone call. Once you get there, you'll be able to talk to the booking deputies, okay? They'll be able to give you a little more information of the process. Okay. Step back. >> In the end, the suspect was charged with organized fraud involving an amount under $20,000. Up next, we have a case where what started as ordinary tasks quickly became a trap for the employee whose misuse of their work for illicit gain would soon be revealed through careless mistakes. >> Chucky, come with me, Chucky. Come on. >> Come with Chucky. Stop resisting. Stop resisting. Let it go. Do not cause a scene here, sir. I'm I'm working entertaining kids for living. >> What the is this about? >> Why are y'all even harassing me? >> Don't Don't pretend like that's not you in the picture. All right. You know it's you. Just start telling us the truth. >> I don't want to go to jail. >> On July 23rd, 2025, Tallahassee police officers were dispatched to a Chuck-E-Cheese after reports that an employee wearing the restaurant's iconic mouse costume had stolen a woman's credit card and used it multiple times for himself. When officers arrived, they spoke with the victim who had [music] tracked the suspect down on her own and immediately called police. >> Uh, what was the date of your daughter's birthday party? >> 28. And then when was the first charge? >> We'll make a note of it. >> Figure it out. We can include it. Yeah. Um, I don't know if it'll go against him or not, but we'll we'll figure it out. >> How many total charges were there? >> You see video already, too, or not? >> She showed me video. Yeah. I was trying to think like especially with all these charges to make a solid case. What we need to like we'd have to go collect video from all the locations which definitely like Cert. >> Well, I would say I would say she has the most recent one, right? >> I don't Is it? It's one of the charges. I don't know if it's the most recent. >> I feel like we have enough as long as everything lines up. Um >> I think we have I mean we definitely have enough to >> If it is If it is what I think it is, then I feel like we have enough. We'll see. It's crazy to me how all these like storefrs and like shopping areas have just plummeted. >> Dude, I can only imagine like us going in there and him running and then us using force on him in front of all these kids. Oh my god, >> that would be terrible. >> An appointment in front of,200 kids inside. >> The officers could barely contain a laugh at the idea of arresting Chucky Mouse himself, but they remained composed as they reviewed video evidence the victim had collected from one of the locations where her card had been used. You can see the gray and then half of the circle right there. >> There. Let me >> slow down for you. >> Mhm. >> You feel pretty confident with that? >> Yeah. >> In the video, >> there's a glimpse where you can see half the card. >> You can see Would you stop? I'm trying to tell him something important. [laughter] You can see half the card and it's gray with a a circle right in the middle of it. >> Right in the middle of it. Hopefully. >> Well Well, >> yeah. Gray with a circle. I would say I would say I don't know if we're searching him yet. So >> yeah, >> we have to question him for >> but we can always ask consent when it comes to >> One key detail stood out. The woman's card was gray with a circle on it. That same detail appeared in the surveillance footage and it would soon become crucial when the otherwise harmless looking mascot was brought outside. Before long, a deputy arrived and quietly located the man, preparing to bring him to the back once more officers were in place. use the bathroom. >> The man was later identified as 41-year-old Jer Jones. At that moment, he was still in his regular uniform, smiling and greeting families. But he'd look very different once officers moved in just 15 minutes later. >> Oh my god. >> All right, we're going live. >> Yeah, for sure. >> This is going to be epic. >> Oh boy. >> Oh my. >> Go around, man. >> Go around. Do you want me to do you want me to come in for these kids? Okay. >> Ma'am, who's in the mouth suit? Was it the gentleman that was just up here? Okay. >> Chucky's a little bit busy, man. Chucky, come with me, Chucky. >> Come with Chucky. Chucky, stop resisting. Stop resisting. >> You're being detained. Stop resisting. Let it Let it go. Let it go. Do not cause a scene here, sir. We're gonna talk to you in a minute. Okay. >> We got to do our job, ma'am. >> It's not my call, ma'am. I'm going to talk to you in a minute. Let you know what's going on. Okay. >> All right, that's fine. >> I got you. >> I'm I'm working entertaining kids. >> I got you, buddy. Come over here. >> You got You got anything on you? Just going to poke me. Stick me. me. >> You got anything on you? I'm going to pat you down. Okay. What's that? What's in your pocket here? Just your wallet and stuff. >> Look, I'm just doing my job. I understand. >> What the [ __ ] is this about? >> We're going to talk. >> We're going to talk to you in a second. >> Um, how does this come off, man? Is it just like a normal Can I get I got to take this back. This is my work stuff. >> Okay, we'll take care of that in a minute. >> We'll do it. Put them in the car. >> Man, what is going on, man? I got hold on right here. >> Jones looked stunned when officers confronted him. Caught in the middle of entertaining children inside the restaurant. He repeatedly insisted he had done nothing wrong and claimed he didn't understand what was happening. But that confusion was about to disappear fast. >> I don't know what y'all talking about or what's going on. >> All righty, sir. I'm Officer Cruz >> with the Dallas Police Department. I'm conducting an official criminal investigation concerning fraud. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law. >> Do you understand each of these rights as I've explained them to you? >> Yeah, I understand. But what is going on? I don't know anything. >> Why are y'all even harassing me and I didn't even do anything? I'm in here working. >> Sir, I need you to answer the questions before I talk to you. Having these rights in mind, do you wish to talk to us now? >> I I Why? What? I talked to y'all and I don't know what's going on. >> It's a yes or no, sir. Having these rights in mind, do you wish to talk to us now? Whatever, man. >> Yeah. >> Is that a yes? Okay. >> All right. So, we are investigating some some fraud stuff with the credit card. Did you uh have you been using anyone else's credit card anywhere? >> No, sir. >> Have you been Have you been shopping lately with a credit card? >> No, sir. Only card I use is my own cash app. That's it. >> So, you don't use a credit card anywhere? >> No, sir. >> Okay. Um you you've never obtained a credit card from here, found one, lost or whatever else, and used it anywhere else. So there wouldn't be any video of you anywhere shopping with a credit card >> like at the meat market. >> At the meat market that doesn't belong to you? >> I don't know anything about a meat market. >> You don't shop at the meat market? You So you haven't gone anywhere and used a credit card to shop anywhere in the past week? >> No. >> Okay. Um >> Jones insisted there would be no video footage of him using a credit card anywhere despite officers literally having watched that footage moments earlier. Still, they pressed forward and asked the obvious questions. Have you ever been to a place called 720? >> 720 in Tallahassee. >> 720 Orange Avenue. The meat market. >> Oh, the meat market's meat market. >> The one that you're on film stealing. >> What about Cloud Smoke Shop? You ever been there? >> Okay. >> The one you're also on film stealing. >> What about the Waterburger? You go to the Waterburger and get some food with a credit card. Okay. >> Only thing >> neighborhood meat market. You went there multiple times. >> I use my own car now. I don't use other people's stuff for nothing. >> Okay. At the meat market, you use your own card. >> My own card. That's it. >> So, you do you did go to the meat market then? >> I go there, but I don't use nobody car my own. >> When's the last time you went there? >> To the meat market? >> A few days ago? >> Few days ago. Okay. And you used your own card there? >> Yes. My own. Nobody else's. >> Is that the app thing you were talking about? Your Apple Pay thing? >> Cash App. >> They take cash out there. Okay. What about the Time Savers 2? >> Cash App. >> Cash App. So, you've been there recently? >> About two weeks ago. Okay. >> What about Tony Mart? >> No, >> I haven't been no recent. >> You haven't been to Tony Mart. Okay. >> Time savers again. So you you go to these places and use your cash app on your phone to pay for stuff. >> Never with a card. Okay. So if we got video of you using a card? >> I use my own card. No one else's. >> Well, you said it's a phone, right? It's a >> I I have that card, but it's not with me today. >> You have the car, but it's not what cards do you have on you today? >> I don't got no card on me. Both boss scores. That's it. >> That's it. Okay. >> And a pack of cigarettes. That's it. >> Okay. So, you're So, you're denying all all claims of of going over to these places and using uh someone else's credit card. >> I don't use nobody car but my own. >> Okay. You know how much meat you bought or about how much stuff you spent in the past few weeks on your uh your your Apple card or your cash app card or whatever card you had? >> Not too sure. >> Not too sure. >> Working. >> Okay. >> No ballpark. What? What were you buying from like the the 420 of the smoke shops? [music] Just >> cigarettes or >> cigarettes? I just cigarettes. >> Okay. >> Remember two key details for later. Jones claimed he never uses credit cards and that he only smokes cigarettes. Officers hadn't yet confirmed whether either claim was true, but they had confirmed that he was lying about not being the man in the footage. >> Does that look like you? Something you wear? >> No, sir. I don't wear no stuff like that. >> You don't wear anything like that? That's not you. >> That's not you. Hey, look at me. It's going to be in your best interest to tell the truth, okay? Don't Don't pretend like that's not you in the picture. All right? You know it's you. Just start telling us the truth. >> I don't want to go to jail. >> I mean, if you're lying to us, you're only going to make things worse on yourself, buddy. Cuz all that's going to go in the report and all the judge is going to see all that. >> I'm not trying to go to jail today. >> I I understand that, but we got to investigate what happened here. So, if you want to I mean, if you want to let us know what's going on, that would help everyone here, including yourself. >> Hold on a minute, officer. Can I go inside to get my >> Have a seat. You can't go inside. >> It is. And we'll go get it for you. Just tell us where your ID card is. >> I don't have it at all today. >> Okay. What's your What's your first name? >> My first name. >> Spell it for me. >> J E R M E L. >> J E R M E L L. >> Yes. >> What's your middle name? >> J. >> What's your last name? Sir, what's your last name? >> Jones. I just work here. >> J O N E S. If >> we take these cuffs on, >> are we going to have to get in a fight? >> No, sir. I'm going to cooperate. >> All right. Good. >> I'm going to cooperate like a regular person. >> Thank you. >> All I do is do this 9 to5 every day. That's it. >> I go to work, come home. That's it. Huh? >> Yeah. I think they Oh, this about to cost me money. I'm about to lose. >> Not, man. I know the the owner's a pretty good guy or the the main guy. >> The GM. >> The GM. He's a good guy. I don't know if it's going to cost you your job, man. >> I don't want to go to jail for nothing I ain't do. >> If I find a card or something, I turn it in if I'm in. >> We'll get it figured out, man. We'll get it figured out. >> Can I smoke a cigarette? >> Not right now. Right now. >> Not right now. >> We'll get to that in a second. >> I might have been on camera in that store you saw, but not using what y'all think. >> Okay. Jones denied everything and said he hadn't been inside any store. But moments later, his story flipped completely, blowing the case wide open as he suddenly admitted he knew about the card, just not in the way officers expected. >> Um, so he says he only has one physical credit card. It's plain white, just his name on it and the magnetic strip on the back. That's all he has. Because if he would have used a card at all of these stores that he's he's seen himself on camera at, it would have been either his phone cash app or the cash app. All plain white card with a magnetic strip on the back. >> So the card that we see you using in the footage with the circle on it, >> what card is that? >> I didn't get that card. >> That's what we see in the footage. So what is that? >> One of my cousins may see me with their car to go to the store here and there. That's it. What does that card look like? >> I do not know because it's not with me. >> Have you gone to the the store with your cousin's card at all the past few weeks? >> Keep keep working on that. >> I need my notepad so I can write some information down cuz I'm going to need your cousin's information. >> I don't know none of their information. >> You don't know their information, but they send you to this store with their credit card. >> They be right there with me. >> Where do they stay? You know, how do you get in touch with them? >> Too far. >> What's their phone number? >> She don't got one. She don't got a phone number. So, where does she stay? >> Where's your cousin stay at? >> I gave you a card. What's that? >> On the other side of town, man. >> Other side? Where? On the other side of town. >> I'm trying to help. I'm trying to help you. You're telling me you're going with your cousin's car? Give me some information on how to find your cousin so we can verify and see what kind of card she has so we can help you. If you're if you're going to tell me you're going with someone's car and then not give me any information that helps me see if that's valid. >> She was like a gray car, but I don't know what kind of gray car it actually is cuz I only used maybe a couple times. >> Have you gone Have you gone to the store with anyone else's car other than hers in the past few weeks? >> No, >> just hers. Okay. So, what's her name? >> All I know is key. That's all I know. >> Key. >> Yeah, that's all I know. I don't know her actual >> K E Y. >> Yeah, that's all I All I know why. When Jones failed to provide a phone number, Facebook profile, or even an address for the cousin he claimed owned the card and only knew her as key, officers were faced with yet another lie. As they grew frustrated, another employee quietly described Jones as a valuable worker. >> All right, here you go, sir. And then I didn't even I didn't even think about it, but to clarify, >> when we grabbed him, like even the slightest, he was technically resisting arrest. So, he was tensing and bracing, and he wouldn't even let us move his arms. Well, I >> So that is kind of how it went. >> I understand the job. >> I'm 100% >> I know it's a terrible place to be. >> I understand. >> Yeah, that's that's it. I understand the job. I got custom on top. >> Do you have a backup by chance or not so much? >> I mean, if you good. I mean, I can't >> I'm just saying do you have a backup like person inside that can be tucked in? >> No. >> It's all right. You're good. We'll get it. >> All right. Well, sorry again. I know it sucks. I mean, had he not resisted with his arms tensed up like that, we would have happily walked out or back or, you know what I mean? But, um, yeah, it sucks. I'm It sucks how it went for sure. So, uh, sorry about it. If you have any other questions, just let us know. Um, but I'm pretty sure we'll be taking them. >> Back with Jones, officers made it clear that his fate was sealed. There was no walking this back. And things only got worse when a search revealed several disturbing items that added even more charges to his case. >> There's there's physical visual evidence to match it. And what what you're telling us is not helping break any of that. You know what I'm saying? So basically, we're probably going to have to take you over to jail, book you for this, and then the detectives are going to have to get to the bottom of what's going on here. If you if you're innocent, they'll I mean, they'll talk to you and they will, of course, you're innocent until proven guilty. But they'll talk to you and you'll figure out with them the timeline of events and what's going on and how this stuff happened and how this misunderstanding took place if that's what it is. And if not, if it's if if it's something that you did and you're you know, you're either honest with him or you're not. And that's going to affect court, trial, and charges. So, it's it's how honest your being helps you more, you know what I'm saying? More than it's going to help anyone else. So, it's we're trying to find out what's going on. What you're telling me is not making a whole lot of sense with what I'm seeing. And it's if you want to lie to us, you can lie to us. That's your choice. >> I'm not going to lie to y'all by [ __ ] >> If you want to tell us, you know, the truth or you can tell us whatever. You know what I mean? But if you the more truthful you are with us, the more it's going to help you in the long run. >> Cuz I'm not trying to go to jail today at all. >> I understand that. But that's where we're at right now. >> We're going to jail right now. Yeah. >> So, >> step out and face away. I'm just complaining y'all. >> That's fine. >> What am I being charged with? >> What am I being charged? >> You don't have anything that's going to poke me or stick me right there. >> Last thing I want to do is get poked by something. Okay. >> What am I being charged with? >> That's my smoke show. >> Do you have a medical marijuana license, sir? >> I was on the way to getting one. >> Okay. All right. >> On the way here. Just set it up. >> That's mine. Oh, I wonder what this one is. >> Yeah. And there's yours, too. So, you did have your car on there. I thought you told me you didn't have anything. >> I thought I didn't have it today. >> I found that today. >> I found that today. >> All righty, sir. >> July 24. >> I wish you'd have told me you had that on. I got >> I was trying to get to that point. >> I'm going to um >> I was trying to tell you I had some more pocket. I was getting to that. >> Well, let me see what I'm going to do about that. Okay, I'm see. Put your legs in there for me. >> That ain't no illegal sult. I paid for that with my own car. >> Where'd you buy it at? >> I bought that at >> this. Why is it in a bag like that? >> They did that theyself. >> They did that there. Okay. Have you >> Mommy does not? >> I bet. >> All right, sir. Remember if if I missed anything on you and you take it in there, it's going to be another charge. So, did we miss Do you have anything else on your person? >> You can check. Well, I mean, do you do you have any other drugs or any weapons or anything on you going to get charged with? Is there anything else in your pocket that we might have missed? >> I you can check on I don't I think y'all got anything. >> Oh, I told y'all about the >> Yeah, I got you. >> I told y'all about >> I got you. I'm about to do my job. >> I hope not, man. >> They probably going to fire me for something like this. >> You never know. Like I said, that guy's pretty cool. I think he's pretty understanding. >> I've been dedicated to nothing but that and I'm the most valuable one they got. >> What? I would think they wouldn't fire you. >> In the end, Gerald Jones was arrested and charged with credit card theft, criminal use of personal information, and fraudulently using a credit card more than two times or for over $100. In the next case, the threat wasn't an armed suspect. It was a trusted employee. As thousands of dollars vanished, officers uncovered irregular deposit records and unexpected witness accounts. >> It's clear as a day in the video. Camera right in there right over top of you. Scanned. He has to enter them up dozen six times. >> You're under [music] arrest for felony charges out of the city of West Palm Beach and referenced in fraudulent. >> The allegations is that there's money missing and just before you answer, >> I've been working this case now for quite some time. You walk into the vault, you remove the cash deposits and you hide them, whether it's underneath a folder or underneath something else. So, do you want to talk about the truth? >> On April 11th, 2024, the owner of a Staples store called police [music] to report a theft so elaborate it left the responding officer in absolute disbelief. >> A GM >> Mhm. >> My uh he just went on LOA. >> Okay. >> Um what is that? >> 29th leave of absence. >> Okay. Um he basically job abandoned but you know how those rules go. Uh he didn't contact anybody but then somebody got a hold of him through HR and they put him on the way. That's so >> so I get notification from our bank. >> Mhm. >> And it goes through another person who works in corporate says hey we got three deposits. Outstanding. >> Mhm. >> And it's from uh it starts at [music] the end of February. So I'm like two weeks behind on this notification. All right. >> Mhm. I request to the store to this GM, send me your Garta log that shows their sign for it. Garter comes, picks them up once a week >> and then our weekly deposit log. So he sends that to me and they look fine. Look like they're picked up and gone. So I'm thinking, "Oh, it's not our fault. Must be the Garta." >> They have a camera system, so I have to verify and confirm, right? >> So I'm watching it and in any given week, you got seven business days. Carter comes once a week, so you get seven business days. So they should pick up a minimum of of seven bags. >> So a guard comes in. They're supposed to pick up seven bags. He scans six. [music] It's clear as a day in the video. Camera right in there right over top. He scans. He has to enter them up. Does it six times so he leaves with six. We have paperwork that shows he scans six, not seven. So we have one missing just in that example for 920 hours. >> Mhm. >> So the suspect here is that GM. >> And um is and how long has has that been going on? >> Yeah. It started the first deposit missing is the date [music] um what is it 229 >> 229 and it's been going every week since. >> Yes. [music] Well, it escalated obviously. Yeah. So >> So in the beginning it was one bag. >> Yeah. >> And then how how did it started one bag? Uh well it was sales date 226. That was the first one sales date. So we have 11 bags missing and that's the total loss we have right now. >> Okay. >> And everything that's occurred after this. He went on LO8 shortly after this cuz I started sticking my nose into it. Hey, send me the logs. Send me this. He knew he was in big trouble >> and nothing happened after 3:17. >> No. >> Okay. >> I started inquiring about 3:20, 3:21 >> and it stopped >> and it completely Well, he left. Yeah. And he and >> what day did he leave? >> Uh his last day worked I think was 3:29. >> 329 but nothing happened from 329. >> We're clean deposits picked up in the bank. the only person. Let me show you the safe so you get a little grasp here. >> I wish I could open it for you. Got a proper way. I have to get locks this off. So, here's the safe. This is where the deposits were kept. >> And [snorts] this where the deposits I'm sorry. >> Yeah, >> where that's where they are. >> Yep. Okay. >> That's where they are. This is just your safe funds. This is where they keep all the money throughout the day. >> As the owner laid out the employees scheme, the officer could only listen in shock at the level of planning that had gone into the heist. But the story was about to get even more surprising. So, the thing about Dwayne, he's he's in here a lot, but the videos, the camera's right there, and it shows what he's doing. He's preparing deposit here. He doesn't go down there until he throws a deposit in. >> And Dwayne is the person that you're most suspicious of. >> No, Dwayne is He's clear. >> He's He's the tech suit. The guy I'm suspicious of, it's so obvious. I'll show you a clip. >> Okay. >> The GM, he's got a drug problem. There's no question about this. Everybody I mean, I talk to the the key holders. I go, "Anything different going on?" Anyway, that's another story. That's He says he's in the hospital. He's in rehab. Anyway, um I don't know that for a fact, but he the GM is the only one. Well, first let me explain the video. The video here because there's so much dead time in this room. >> You could go 6 7 hours in a day while we're open for business. No one comes in here. Door closed. >> Right. >> So, for me to for us to have to watch video for that would be >> Yeah. They skip forward until somebody's in here. >> Yeah. But you don't know. But the way it's set up, it's motion activated. So as soon as that door comes open, the the video backs up maybe two seconds. >> Mhm. >> And then it it it starts recording. >> Okay. >> And then you see the door open, you see the people come in. So what I saw was the GM coming in >> uh going into that deposit. So when he's here bending down, digging around into the deposit, >> uh from that angle, it's really difficult to see exactly what's going on. It's not like stealing from a register and you got the camera, >> but you don't see him put it in the pocket. >> It's nothing that obvious. What he does is he uses this prop right there. He used that once. This is this is lost and found stuff that shouldn't have been down there, but this envelope was in there and he's he has no reason to really go in there unless a customer says, "Hey, I left my passport here and there's one in there." But this is so out of policy, it's not even funny. It's not how we handle it. But anyway, that bag was down there and that's one of the things he messed with. And he would be down in there with the deposits. Mhm. >> And all of a sudden he walks out here and goes into his office with that bag and then comes back and puts it in. So >> Oh, so he takes that bag with him. >> Yeah. Takes it into his office there. >> For months, officers worked side by side with the owner to build a case. All the while, the suspect walked around smuggly, convinced he had gotten away with it, not realizing he was soon going to walk into a trap. >> What's your name, sir? >> Anthony. Anthony, you're under arrest. You have you have an arrest warrant. Okay. >> For what, sir? I just >> Is there any guns in here? No, sir. >> Okay. Just stay right where you're at. >> You're under arrest for felony charges out of the city of West Palm Beach >> and referenced in fraudulent. Nope. That was for That was for Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. >> Yes. Charges City of West Palm Beach. Come on out. >> Come on out. >> No. Come on out. Put your hands on top of the car. >> Fresh charges for you. >> They're new. They're new. >> You You got arrested on the 12th. >> Hey, >> for Palm Beach County. That was for schemes of defraud and using other people's property, things like that. This is for something completely different. >> City of West Palm Beach. >> City of West Palm Beach. >> All right. So, would you rather take this take this off and I'll cuff you? >> Oh my gosh. >> I know it sucks, dude, but this is this is what it is, brother. >> Yeah, I guess. I understand that. >> You got you got some keys on you. >> Yeah, I can my phone. >> I'll get your phone. I will get your phone. You want to take this off? >> Yeah. Yeah, >> it' just be easier, more comfortable if you want to take that off. >> It's fraud stuff. It's nothing violent. You're not, you know, you're not >> I think he probably wants to. I I'd give it a shot. It's probably worth talking to him about. >> The manager was clearly convinced that he was untouchable by the way he reacted to being arrested, but officers wasted no time cutting through his arrogance. >> Any idea why a detective will be talking to you right now? And before you answer, please please >> do you have any idea why I would be here talking to you specific to Staples? >> No sir. No. >> So if if Staples management uh how many managers did you have under you at Staples? >> Uh so my direct reports my >> how many people had access and a key to the cash room at Staples? I would say other than myself, there were of four >> four other people. Okay. >> I mean, and that's just during that time, mind you, like I was telling you before, there were many visits with many managers at different levels, you know, whether they're regional, divisional, in and out of that store very frequently. >> Okay. The allegations is that there's money missing. And just before you answer, >> I've been working this case now for quite some time, right? Okay. >> So, the allegations would would you know whether there will be any allegations that there will be money missing from the cash room of Staples? >> I can tell you what I am privy to regarding um the discre discrepancies because I was involved with investigating them um probably I don't remember how long before I went out sick. But um I remember we provided all the information and the the uh you know the uh armored carrier uh logs and you know just everything that went along with that and at at that point um you know that's as far as I was um involved with that. Now, with that, I know that was um as a result to it being reported in through the system that they um hadn't received um uh deposits that were >> Did you ever did you ever take any money from Staples >> in before you answer that? I've been dealing with this for now a few months. >> Did you ever take any cash deposits from Staples? I did not take any cash deposits from Staples and I understand. >> Anybody else take cash deposits from Staples? >> Not to my knowledge. Not that I've seen or I'm aware of. I can I can tell you. Um, >> have you ever come to Staples in a day or time that you were not supposed to be working at Staples? >> Once confronted, the man's carefully rehearsed story unraveled almost instantly. No matter how hard he tried to stick to it, the officer kept chipping away until the cracks started showing. >> Sir, I I would come to Staples. uh off my schedule at different times all the time and as related to what I was just explaining to you. Um I would come there as needed as uh you know >> so if there's video of you >> walking out of that cash room >> with cash deposits >> you're saying that that video would not be truth. I'm saying that that's not what it I did not take any cash deposits out of Staples now. And I was I had explained over the phone dealing with uh the loss prevention um TED and other and and you know as far as you know some of the concerns that I had regarding the safekeeping regarding you know the the process because they were on process and I was doing my best to get things on process to avoid the types of issues and the discrepancies that we were going through at that time. And what would be that what what would be one thing that you did to accomplish that? >> So in that um one of the main things is that in that particular safe um there is uh an internal safe as well. Like so when you open the main safe there's another one >> and it's connected to a chute and the chute goes down just like every other retail. I've been doing retail a very long time and that's how it's supposed to be managed. So that way once it's dropped, it's secured until the armored car person comes and picks it up with their key. >> So you're saying that there was excessive amount of liability with the lost confound >> and you're saying that there was a kind of a mess. That's my word. It's a big mess >> between uh the cash and that >> for years. I mean you these things were 2013. >> But then you decide to merge the cash with the lost and found. >> No, no, it was already done. It was already >> That's not what I was told. Here's what the allegations are. >> That's not true at all. That is not true at all. You could check in and go back. I I swear to you if you continue digging in the investigation for that fact of how they were managing lost and found and you'll see from before long before I got there they were using that bottom uh c cabinet as the lost and found with no um additional like separation between you know that stuff and the uh the deposit. Uh, but I one thing I did was made them put all of the lost and found into like a consolidated bag that said lost and found on it, you know, and make them uh try to upkeep the lost and found ledger as as frequently as possible, you know, or as at least consistently. But there that I there's I did not merge that those two things together. I was trying to break them apart and to get rid of eliminate the lost and found and then going forward instead of automatically putting something that was found in there and forgetting about it, make an effort to contact to look up identify the person and reach out and let them know that you have their their their item and and that's what we were doing up to that point. But they had things going back from like 2013 2014 in there. The suspect thought talking in circles would buy him freedom, but all it did was bury him in a deeper hole. >> At no point did I did did I go in there and take money out of there. I mean, I I you know, I've been I've been going through enough and it it's been hard enough like what's been going on with I was working open to close for for months on end since I started there. No days off and my family is out here. We haven't we were we weren't even able to settle into a permanent home yet. I have seven kids. My wife we we weren't even able supposed to be like that for this long. But I've been obligated to be here which I've done in good faith. Did my job. Did everything I was asked. Gone to other locations to help. >> Do you want to be truthful today or am I just going to listen to you talk and I'm just a straight shooter? >> I'm being tr like truthful. So, so here's the in regards to money that is missing from the safe and you on video several times at least four that I counted that I saw >> where there's discrepancies in the cash you walk into the vault, you remove the cash deposits and you hide them whether it's underneath a folder or under something else. So, do you want to talk about the truth or do you want to because the truth will set you free. I'm a reasonable person and when there's no victim, there's no crime, Anthony. So, if Staple decides not to be a victim any longer, you're not gonna see Detective Palasios anymore. But if I'm going to sit here and I'm going to have to accept you lying to me, I think that's a little bit unfair. I think that's disrespectful and we'll just we'll just leave it at that and you stick to your story. If you want to be truthful and say, "Okay, listen, detective. We have been going through some tough times and I went through this and I was against the wall because I will probably do the same thing, Anthony, if I have to feed my family. But please don't lie to me after I've been looking at this for months now cuz we're at the end of July and this is back from February and March I believe it was and there's several deposits that are missing and I don't know if you knew but there Anthony I'm giving you the facts and the truth. Um, >> the truth is documented. So, I'm not making it up. >> Understood. >> So, and there's videos where where it's it's on a sensory basis that when it censors somebody in the room, >> it goes off and it starts recording. >> I've reviewed those videos. I reviewed the consistency and I saw you grab deposits from underneath the safe, the safe that you're explaining. I saw you logging in on the clipboard, whatever you were logging. I saw you pull out certain things. I've already gone through that. I'm trying to understand why you did it so that I can pass along the information and you can potentially honestly help yourself. I'm not a judge. I'm not a jury. I just collect information. I review information. And I'm I'm pretty decent at it. I'm not going to say I'm the best. I'm also very reasonable. and I will share whatever message you have for me to share with Staples and management. But just please understand that this is this is a decent time for us to talk about the truth so that >> you can potentially help yourself. Despite the evidence stacked against him, the former Staples manager refused to admit the truth during his interview with investigators. He was arrested and charged with felony grant. In the next case, a promotion was supposed to reward trust. Instead, [music] it exposed greed. As money began disappearing, officers were called to what should have been a moment of success only to uncover a trusted manager abusing his position. >> Apparently, over the course of your employment, there's a lot of cash registers that were turned up short. They have video surveillance of you uh folding money in your hand and instead of putting it into money counter, you slip it into your pocket. Is that accurate? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. Is there a reason why this was happening or you >> It was just like financial hardships. On December 19th, 2023, deputies were dispatched to a target regarding one of the store managers who had been caught stealing from multiple registers. The act in itself was downright shameless, but the man's uncaring attitude only worsened the situation. So, I was notified by Target that apparently over the course of your employment, there's a lot of cash registers that were turned up short and that they have video surveillance of you uh folding money in your hand and instead of putting it into money counter, you slipped into your pocket. >> Is that accurate? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. Is there a reason why this was happening? Are you >> It was just like financial hardships. Um, and then it turned into a bad habit that [music] should have subsided long long ago or never even started. But yeah, that's all it stemmed from. >> Okay. Do you happen to have a drug problem? Cuz we do have like drug court. We have programs to get people the drugs. >> Nothing addictive. >> Okay. Like that. Just needed to get out of a hole and then it stuck with a bad habit really. >> Okay. Um, do you roughly know about how much it's been going on for the past, you know, almost a year or 6 months? >> Um, I I believe it was 6 months since I started. That's when I bought my house. That's when I needed to >> um finalize some things that >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Okay. You about how much money roughly? >> They're they're estimating 10,000. >> 10,000? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Do you think it might be a little bit more than that? Cuz I know it's about 10,000 only in the last two months. two months. >> Yeah. The last two last [music] uh 30 to maybe 90 30 I would say 30 to 60 days is about just over 9 grand. >> Wow. Yeah. Not that I'm aware of. Like [music] I told them I I when I receive it I I spend it on on like materials and stuff cuz I'm remodeling my house. So >> Okay. >> Nothing that I'm aware of. >> Okay. Understandable. >> You married sir? Any kids? >> Just engaged. Got kids. Yeah. >> Okay. How many kids do you have? Um technically two. >> Okay. >> Mhm. >> Biological or >> No. >> Okay. >> All right. Um you have anything you'd like to add? >> No. If you What I would do is the whole statement form if he wants to >> Well, they have a an admission form here. Can I see that? >> Is this uh your form, sir, that you uh you signed out? >> If you can read it. Hey, >> sorry. >> Okay. And this is just your signature here on the statement. Okay. >> Okay. Let's see if I can get a copy of that. >> The man brazantly admitted to robbing almost $10,000 from the store and felt no remorse over his actions. With his confession out in the open, there was only one thing left to do. >> All right, sir. Well, today you you are going to be placed under arrest. Okay. >> Okay. You'll be able to bond out of the jail and then from there it's with your attorney speaking with the state's attorney and target on working out some type of agreement in order for paying back. and you can go and see what the charges are going to be. >> Sure. >> Okay. They could reduce the charges. They can drop the charges. As long as most likely the money is paid back to Target and Target agrees to accept the money before it goes to trial, then they can always drop the case with the state's attorney's office. >> Okay. >> Okay. So, that's something you can definitely work out. >> Mhm. >> All right. Do you have any questions for me? >> No, sir. No. >> Do you have any questions for Target? >> No, not that I'm aware of. >> Okay. Okay. So, you are you do understand you are um fired from the store? >> Yep. >> Okay. Is he trespassed from the store? >> Yes. >> Okay. And you are being trespassed from the store as well. Okay. It means you cannot come back to the store property unless you actually speak with somebody from the store and then they lift it. But in order for them to lift it, they have to contact us because it's going to be documented that you are trespassed. >> Okay. >> From just this location or every location. >> This location. >> Okay. Yeah. So, if you'd like to come back to this target, then you make sure you get in touch with management and management has to call us to cancel the trespass. >> That's fine. Can you leave me real quick? I need a picture for the trespass. >> All right. Stand up for me. >> Do you have any Well, before you do you have anything in your pocket you like to take out? Do you have >> I just got keys and a phone and a wallet. >> Key phone. Okay. >> Take it out. >> No. Uh, no knives or anything? >> Nothing harmful. Take off this watch. Okay, we're going to take off this watch. Okay, so that way we have some room and you're not getting cut off circulation. Okay, >> and it doesn't damage your watch. >> Thank you. >> Yeah, place the back of your phones like that. >> Yeah, I wait for >> you got nothing gross in there. No, you just listen. In this line of work, you've you've seen it all. >> I just don't put my hands in people's pockets. So, I got gloves on. Just walk and then I'll hold the door open. That sounds good. I grab this property. >> Are you grabbing over the thing? >> Under the bench right there. >> Is that your backpack? That's his backpack to his head. >> Is it alarming going to go off? I >> got >> No, this ain't cold. >> It's cold enough. All right, we're going to go back to that second car back there. The deputies weren't sure just how in touch the man was with what he'd done. So, they decided to give him a well-deserved lecture. >> This opportunity to let people know that we make decisions in life that are not great. They'll learn from them. And that's the important thing. And I hope that regardless of what happens, we can learn from this today and get done and >> consequences that come with this. >> Yeah, this one's going to [ __ ] >> I want I was going in the fire service. So, >> work out. >> Yep. We got to figure it out. Maybe working it out with parking or something. >> I hope so. But that's what I've been >> job that I've wanted to do. >> Yeah. >> But regardless if if it works out, if it doesn't work out, you'll have a story to tell and got to make better decisions than what you've already made. >> What's in this pocket? Like probably some earbuds. I'm trying >> keys and AirPods you said. >> Yeah. >> Membership I don't go to. >> Yeah, we all have those. >> They might not be >> 90302. Where are you at? >> Yeah, there's I just not want to come out here. I don't want to go dropping them all over the place. Nothing up here, right? No pockets. Good. Okay. Give me just a second. Go ahead and take a seat. Thank you. >> Hey, Cameron, you've been so honest with us. Is there any money in your wallet that belongs to Target? >> Uh, just the big bills, I think. >> Okay. One second. Just one second. >> 374. >> It's warm in here, man. >> I don't like being cold outside for a second. >> I don't like being really hot or really cold. So, >> I can turn if it's too hot, just let me know, right? And you're honest with us and hold on for a second. >> Does a backpack need to go in? >> No, I haven't checked that. This is everything that doesn't need to be searched. Wallet that does need to get searched. You got an extra pair of gloves. I'll stand right here while you guys. >> Just when it seemed the officers had the whole truth in front of them. The man's wallet offered even more incriminating evidence. >> I asked him, "Was there any money in here that belonged to Target?" He said, "Just the big bills." Okay. >> So, if you want to continue with that line, I can pull out whatever. >> Feel free to Yeah. 50s hundreds. >> When is this from this money? >> I don't know. It's It's >> Is this from It's not from today. It's from previous days. >> Okay. So, how much money is supposed to be in here? >> I don't. >> Is it safe to say that most of this money is from Target >> or changed from Another five and $100 bills. Hold that for me. So, six, seven, eight, five. I'm just separated by 1,000,29 if I counted. Okay. What what are you thinking with this? >> Uh I mean he he admitted that most of his money is either change or money from >> So unfortunately have to do with currency forms >> to give it back to him. >> No, cuz if it's going to go into property at the sheriff's office, then it needs a currency form and it has to be signed off by a sergeant. >> In the end, the male was charged with felony grand theft. Up next, we have the case of a foolish employee who forgot that supervision doesn't stop at the title and that every canceled transaction leaves a [music] trail. >> I am here to talk to you about your employment here with >> my next question. How do you explain the number of canceled items that you have just in the last year? >> On November 16th, 2024, officers were dispatched following a report from a restaurant regarding employee embezzlement. The owner observed over a 3-day period that the employee had been cancelling cash transactions and pocketing the money. The business reported an estimated loss of $57,000 dating back to 2021. Here's the footage of officers confronting the suspect and uncovering that theft wasn't the only thing she had to answer for. >> Yeah. Who just what employee just got here? >> Who just walked through the door? >> And >> are you Ann? >> Yes. Come with me outside. >> Thank you. Do you have your ID on you? >> And your driver's license. >> Do you have a license? How did you get to work? I drove. >> All right, hold on. Don't go nowhere. It even tells you. Why don't you have a license? >> Uh, it's been suspend uh suspended. >> I'll go look it up, but just tell me. >> Yeah, from Jersey. Is >> your car secured? >> No, I'm going to go back. Can you trade with me stuff? >> What happened? >> I'm uh I'm in work. You came in to get me at work? What? I don't I don't know. >> You got no license. >> Oh, is that why y'all stopping me? >> I was inside already. Please. >> Oh, watch you pull up driving. You know, it doesn't matter. >> Sir, we were evicted [clears throat] the other day. Hey, we're at an Airbnb. I need to work. >> You evicted from the storm? >> No, it's my own personal stuff. >> Okay. >> It was my job. >> Okay. Well, I mean, we can see. Have you had any uh tickets recently? >> Uh, no. >> How long's your license been no good? >> Uh, >> have you ever had a license? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> I mean, my daughter has her license. >> Yeah. >> Is that Is this her car? >> Yeah. >> Okay. What's your license suspended for? >> I don't even remember now. It's from Jersey. >> Okay. Is it like just like speeding tickets or is it DUI or? >> Uh I can't even remember right now. No, no DUI. >> So, Florida won't give you a license cuz in New Jersey you're suspended. >> All right. Well, let my partner get back and he'll do some research and could just uh be a citation, but I can't promise anything. So, >> okay. I'll have my daughter come get the car, please. >> Yeah, I'm I'm not gonna tow it or anything. Um, you're cooperative, so >> I know what's going on. >> Yeah, we're just waiting for >> Can you take your bag off? >> Why am I being arrested? >> You got no license. I'm driving. >> Please, I can't. >> Put your knuckles together. Oh my god. >> You said you have a family member that can come get the car. >> Yeah. >> Do you know their number or you need it out of your phone? >> Uh, I need uh >> At first, the officers focused on resolving the issue of her suspended [music] license. But once the woman was cuffed and taken away, they began digging deeper and eventually started questioning her about [music] the theft from her employer. >> And then having these rights in mind, you want to speak with me? >> Yes. >> So I am here to talk to you about your employment here with um How long have you been working here? >> Uh 5 years. >> 5 years. Was it something else before? Was it a different restaurant before the name? Uh, I don't know. Okay. Do you have any idea why I would be speaking with you? >> No. >> Okay. What What days do you typically work? >> Uh, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. >> Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. >> Yeah. >> Are those full 8 hour shift? And what is your are you a waitress or waitress? >> And how much do you make being a waitress here? >> Uh it depends. Okay. Uh between 1 150. Is that including tips and stuff? Um, now Ann, I I I want you to be completely honest with me, okay? It's it's certainly not the end of the world. Um, but there's obviously some serious stuff that we got to talk about. Um, but I'll be honest with you if you're honest with me, okay? Okay. Which will go a long way help you out a lot further. Okay. Anne was informed that the officers had more to discuss with her than just the suspended license. And that's when you could hear the panic start to creep into her voice. >> Um, now when you have you ever taken any cash out of the gun? No. >> Your own bank? >> We can. >> Okay. Have you ever changed any orders and canceled any out? Take cash out of the register? >> No. >> Okay. So, remember when I said be honest with me? Okay. That's that's what we need here is honesty, okay? Cuz there's going to be some things that you're going to have to explain. And if you're not going to be honest with me, it's not going to end very well. So my next question, how do you explain the number of canceled items that you have just in the last year compared to your co-workers? which are very significant. So, your co-workers have only had about $1,200 in canceled items. Yours are in $15,000. What's that explanation? How do you explain that? >> Uh, >> honesty is important here. Okay. >> Yeah. No, I I >> I've already I already talked to everyone I need to >> I know the answers to a lot of the questions I'm asking, which is why I'm asking you to be honest. Okay. There's documentation. Okay.
