What is it you think you're here for? And describe that. What What happened? Well, I pushed her off. Okay. I got the knife. Okay. How many times you think you stay? A lot. Okay. As an officer, everything from a noise complaint to a routine welfare check can turn into the most disturbing discoveries. You can't hear the screams. In the black box. Yeah. Oh my god, dude. Long story short, I wanted to see what Here are the moments when cops accidentally made disturbing discoveries. Starting off with the case of when authorities lifted a mattress only to discover the person they'd been searching for, lifeless. On August 28th, 2022, officers responded to a hotel after a housekeeper made a terrifying discovery inside one of the rooms. Something that once the suspect was identified would put a man behind bars for a very long time. Oh man, you think under the bed? Yeah. Oh, sweet Jesus. Oh, yeah. All right. All right, might as well get out of there. Upon entering the room, it didn't take long for officers to find what the housekeeper had discovered while cleaning, a body hidden beneath the mattress. The victim was quickly identified as a 26-year-old woman from Manatee County and was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Her swift identification would become the first major breakthrough in the search for the person responsible for this horrific crime. All right, guys. Watch your step. Don't touch anything. Try to clean up this 104. Going to close the door and hold it here. No one else was in there, right? Uh, we didn't look under the other bed. All right. Austin, you want to take a look? No, no, I'll go in. I'll wait till I get some people. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I don't blame you. Unsure if there were more victims hidden in the room. And fearing this could be part of a larger, more disturbing crime, the officer checked under the second mattress, the only one that hadn't been cleared yet. I just want to check over here. I just want to make sure there isn't another Nope. It's clear. Okay, we're clear. You going to put you on it, too? Can we just see you? Yeah. You know what I would suggest we do just in case there's some evidence in the trash can? Just go ahead and just warden off this whole area. to see if anybody was in this. With nothing found under the second mattress, officers began securing the scene, rolling out crime tape and closing off the area. They also removed a nearby trash can, suspecting it could potentially contain evidence linked to the crime. Inside the trash can, investigators found a pair of bloody sandals, something to keep in mind for later. Camera. Yeah, it's disconnected. And there's a camera down there. It's disconnected. Wow. The nearby surveillance cameras had been disconnected. Luckily, the couple that had been living in the room next to the crime scene had some insights into the situation. Say again. Not bugging you. No paranormal business. Just want to eat my food. Did you hear anything last night or last couple days over here? Only when there's some drugs are so [ __ ] out of their head, you can tell they're no big drugs cuz they're like fall down the steps. Can we just talk for a minute now? I really don't have anything to say to your camera. So, can you give us a description of the other person she was with? Oh, I didn't even know you have a she is the problem. Well, you said there was two people, right? I'm assuming they stayed in the room. Yeah, there was a whole lot of people. A whole lot of people. So, it's been pretty much in and out. It's just rank the description. You got a party girl that just did too much trashy stuff and somebody did slowly and she's always up here making a fool of herself. That's all I know. Was she with anybody? Old girl always sits outside of her door. Okay. So, did did you guys see her with anybody else yesterday or I didn't see her with anybody? Nobody. And you didn't hear She's always just with that one young boy. One young boy. Do you know his name? You know what he looks like? skin. I don't know. Blonde hair, black hair, brown. Brown, white male. I really don't know. People's I just like I don't want it to be my brownness. I don't care. Um all I know is there some young dude. Is it a white male, black male, Hispanic? White guy. But then you see white guys, you see black guys, you see undeniably there's guys There's guys coming out on the live there's guys always like on a consistent basis. Do you remember how tall he is roughly? 5'8 59 probably 5'8 5'9. 5'8. That's like 6 foot. That's not How much do you think you weigh? 180. 180. Any scars or marks or tattoos? Not to my knowledge, but I think he has like a little beard strap. The description was surprisingly similar to the victim's boyfriend. So, detectives began searching for him and eventually brought him in for questioning at the station. Now, you know why you're here. We know why you're here. And we really want to we want to understand. And the only way that we're going to understand is is through you. Okay? Some things happen, some bad things. Okay? You look like you're going through it. Okay? And you know, just instead of us just hitting you with question after question after question, what do you what is it you think you're here for? Okay. And who who is the person that you murdered? Steven came clean to detectives almost immediately and then began to reveal the disturbing details of what he claimed had happened. We got the hard part out of the way. Okay. We want to hear your version of what happened. And look at me, Stephen. Okay? There's no right or wrong version. There's only the truth. Okay? You can tell us a lot of things in here. You can confess to 50 people in here, but if the evidence that we have doesn't align with what you're telling us, then we know there's something wrong. Either we have to reassess what we've done or you're you're being dishonest. Fair enough. Okay. So, let's we're not going to interrupt you, okay? Just just tell us what happened. We have a pretty good timeline, but just break it down for us. Me and her were arguing cuz she says that I was cheating on her with invisible women. Okay. Um Okay. Sorry. And she tried to me. Okay. Let me see what you got there. No, don't take them off. Is that That's what that is. Yeah. Okay. Okay. We'll look at him later. That's fine. And where did this happen at? In the hotel room. Okay. What are you doing when this starts? She was getting home. Okay. Okay. Okay. And you were doing what? Laying in bed. You were laying in bed. Okay. And is she she in the same bed with you? Okay. And there are two beds in the room. Okay. One closest to the door or the one closest to the bathroom? Closest to the bathroom. Okay. So, you lay in bed. She's laying in bed and she starts in with this invisible people. You're having an affair. Okay. And then what happens? She tries to attack me cuz she's tired of me being Okay. And I offended myself. Okay. And describe that. What What happened? Well, I pushed her off of me and I got the knife. Okay. All right. And what kind of knife? Like a fixed blade or one that you flip open? Flip open. Flip open. Do you can you describe it? So it's not a Is that the That's the whole knife or is that the blade? That's the whole knife. That's what color? Black. Black. Okay. I'm going to take a couple notes just Okay. How many times you think [Music] you want to call? A lot. A lot. Okay. Okay. Do you remember where you stuck her? I know you said a lot. I think in the neck. At this point, Steven was sharing details that would have otherwise only been revealed in the autopsy report, like where he had wounded his girlfriend and what kind of weapon he had used. Coming up, detectives pressed further with their questioning in this moment. Okay. So, you've you've disarmed her. She's tried to stab you. You've disarmed her. She is uh you you now have the knife. Okay. And are we on the bed still? You're on the floor. Where at? Between In between the beds. In between the beds. Okay. And you're on top of her at this point. Yeah. Okay. So, you stab her. You don't know how many times you stabbed her. Okay. But he's just a lot. Okay. So, how, and I know this is kind of a weird question, and I understand that you're probably in a little bit of shock at this point. How long did this confrontation go on? Five minutes. 5 minutes. Okay. And is that from the time that she tried to attack you or is that from the time she started accusing you, attacking you? Okay. Okay. Then what happened? I was scared. I I think that's fair. I I I think that's fair. Let Let me ask you a question because we're not trying to We're not trying to paint you as a terrible person. Okay. When you woke up Saturday morning, did you plan on killing Jennifer? Okay. Have you guys fought before? Okay. And is Jennifer a physical person? Get go handsy getsy with you. Okay. And what about you with her previously? Have you guys had not that this matters, but have you guys had confrontation before? Okay. Physical domestics. Domestics, right? That's in the Yeah. Yeah. So, that's an all in one thing. How long you two were you two together? Two years. Two years. And how long have you been together? Like at the hotel? Not that hotel, but 2 years you've been together together. So, no matter where you were, you were together unless somebody went to jail. Okay. All right. Okay. So, what happens after? At this point, the detective asked Steven to explain the events in chronological order. And that's when it came to light that crucial evidence had been thrown into the trash cans and in the woods nearby. I took a shower. Okay. Did you call anybody? No. Was anybody else there? Okay. What happened after you took a shower? Where'd you go? Okay. It's a lot to process. Okay. And then what happened? I went back. So now now you got to deal with it, right? And this is probably stressing you out while you're out walking. Okay. All right. So, you you went back to the room. Were you still alone? Okay. And then what did you do? I tried to cover it up. Okay. Describe to me. So, you tried to cover it up. What does that mean? Clean up. Tried. Okay. All right. And what what did you do? Used the towels to wipe the floors and everything. took the bed sheets and wrapped her. Okay. And then I stuffed her under the bed. And so obviously you took your stuff with you. And where's your clothing? In the woods. Okay. So the stuff Let me ask. So the stuff that you had on, is it in the woods? No, I threw that away. You threw it Where did you throw it at? In the dumpster. That's in the dumpster right at the hotel. Okay. So All right. So the dumpster at the hotel, that's the camouflage pants. And so when you walk out when you walk out of the room and down the stairs like looking towards Waffa House, is that the dumpster? Yeah. Okay. All right. And was it in a bag or was it just loose? In a bag. What color? You know, clear bag. Clear trash bag. Okay. Okay. And once you went out, you you got rid of the clothes and the towels that you used to clean up. And what did you do with her stuff? Um, most of it I just packed away in a bag. Okay. Like I put it with my stuff. Steven wasn't holding back. And now the detectives wanted to know what happened to the weapon used to perform the crime. Threw it in the lake. Threw the knife in the lake. Okay. Which lake by Sunny's behind the hotel. But the one sunnies. The one in the circle. Okay. Okay. And whereabouts in the lake? Do you know where were you standing when you tossed it? Do you remember that back when you Oh, no. That lake that close to the Yeah. Oh, I had no idea. Okay. Did you throw a lighter a ring in the garbage at all? A lighter ring. Okay. So, some stuff we just found. That's I just asked because we had to go through garbage, right? So, we don't know. I mean, we knew the shoes definitely were going to be, you know what I mean? But all right. So So you can throw the right out. So I actually, you know, now that I think about it, yeah, I think I think you can. It's not a big window, but it's it's big enough to throw something out of this much space. And I just like that. Did you hear it at the water? I watched it. Oh, did you? Okay. Cuz at what point was this before, after you cleaned up, or during? Before I cleaned up. Was it before you left? Okay. So, before you took a shower? Okay. Did you Why did you think she was dead? So much. Right. Was she Was she talking at any point afterwards? No. Not moving, making any sounds, nothing. Gurgling. Gurgling. Right. Okay. And I would I appreciate your honesty. I would expect you to say that. Coming up, the detective brought his agame, getting blunt with Steven in an effort to uncover the real motive behind the crime. There's there's one part of this that doesn't make sense to me. And I'm not saying you're lying. I'm saying that I I need some clarification. Okay? I'm Look, I'm just going to be honest with you because I told you I wouldn't [ __ ] you. Okay? So, I I don't want to even beat around the bush about it. I'm not feeling like you got to with the knife. I'm feeling like you did get attacked, but I'm not feeling the knife part of it. Okay. I see the injury to your hand, right? But from my experience, okay, it's it's not it's not adding up. Okay. And let me just tell you this. There's you've been I I think probably one of the most honest people we've interviewed in a long time except the last guy. That guy was unbelievable. But anyway, so was there obviously there was a fight. Okay. There was a disagreement. There was an argument. There was a something. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me that she got out of the bed, went to retrieve your knife, and came back and tried to attack you. And I'm just telling you, I'm not seeing the evidence that that's the way it went down. It feels to me like there was a fight, something did happen, and you snapped. Am I right or wrong? I'm right. Okay. Did she go hand Did she get handsy with you or was she just like a Chihuahua just barking and barking and nipping and you just had enough and you you got up and grabbed the knife. Okay. Because you just you were done and the injury on your hand your hand slid down the blade, didn't it? Yeah. Yeah. See, open your hand for a minute. So, listen, man. Here's the deal, okay? Obviously, you're going to get charged with, okay? It's it's going to be second degree murder, okay? It's not first degree. Um, you know, obviously you're not dumb. You know, we recorded all of this and we record that to protect you and us, okay? We're not the judge, okay? And we're prison. We're not here to Well, we're not, but that's not what we do. You know what I mean? That's out of our wheelhouse. Steven was sentenced to 60 years in prison. Moving on to the case where a routine welfare check led to what may be one of the most disturbing discoveries yet. A child found locked in a cage behind bars. Do you mind do you mind if I come in? Yeah. I know you want the gate open, baby. We're working on that right now. Okay. Their most autistic child whose name is is basically caged into the downstairs living area. And when I say caged, caged. He's naked. There's feces around. It's extremely messy in the area. On April 23rd, 2024, officers were dispatched to a home in Nevada to conduct a welfare check after several of the couple's four children had gone missing and the school had grown concerned. Sorry to wake you up, bud. What time did you go to bed? About 2 3 this morning. Yeah. Okay. So, it's not horrible. You got some sleep. Yeah. Uh even though the kids might have kept you awake some. So, I'm just here uh because they asked me to be here. Okay. Based on the situation, the kids haven't been in school. One of them is being home homeschooled uh for the number of days that they haven't been in school. So, they got a few questions based on what they need to do as a school representative for truency. Okay. Does that make sense? It sounds like you got some challenges here at the house. Um your wife and you have different, you know, schedules to probably try to handle the kids and stuff like that. That's great. It sounds like you're doing trying the hardest you can to make the situation work, right? So, but they still have a job to do based on, you know, their policies and students. Yes. We're just checking because they haven't been at school. Um um he's not in school today and um I think he has to leave the school. um uh they're supposed to be in uh Nevada Learning Academy, but they haven't been, you know, enrolled. So, we're just concerned to see we just want to check that they're all okay. Yeah. Um so that I can bring the report back to school. Um what concerned me was that I heard the banging and he said, "Let me out. Open the door." He thought it was police. He was like, "Please let me out." So, but then when I asked if he's okay, he stay quiet. So, I just wanted that I can see that he's okay. Oh, yeah. He's okay. And a kid like that, it makes sense that they would say, "Let the man who eventually opened the door was identified as 41-year-old Jeffrey Scandlin. Initially, it was just a school official who knocked, but when no one answered and she heard screaming from inside, she immediately called the police." The old like child kind of like Yeah. He Do you mind do you mind if I come in? Yeah. Um he's a big kid. I I can come in. Yes. Okay. Um he's half Simone, so he's a big kid. Oh yeah, probably got some meat to him. Oh yeah. Once inside, the officer saw what looked like cage bars installed in the living room with an 11-year-old boy locked inside. But that wasn't all. The room was reportedly covered in human waste smeared across the floors and walls with piles of trash scattered everywhere. Coming up, Jeffree started explaining why things were like this. Um, so, hey buddy. He basically we had to do this because it keeps him from kicking holes Mhm. everywhere in the house. Does he have like uh he doesn't hit his head on the walls or anything like that? No. No. Okay. Um how about the other children then that are supposed to be in school? Yeah, they're upstairs. You able to get them down here? Yeah. Hey, Sarge. The officer wanted to ensure that the other kids inside the house were okay. Meanwhile, another officer arrived and started asking Jeffrey questions about the child enclosure. Set up for him. Yeah. cuz he's part of Simone. Yeah, half Sabong kids. He's very strong. He just turned 11, but he's super strong. Yeah. I mean, I he's ripped off cabinets, kicked holes. His room upstairs, he you know, he kicked a hole through into my bedroom. Okay. You know, it's just he, you know. Okay. So, to keep it from destroying the house, we try to keep him in here. He doesn't know how to unlock. No. Wow. Well, on this one we had to uh we had to tie this up and then on the other on the other door we have a key lock. Okay. So, cuz Yeah. I mean, some some of them are very observant. Oh. Oh, dude. They are smart. S smart in ways that we don't expect sometimes. Oh, they're so sharp. Him him and my daughter, they're both autistic. So So my concern as a safety officer is what happens in case of a fire. Uh that that can be cut right there. It's just tied up. So, that door opens right up. Uh, and the other one has it locked. He could open it and yank it. Uh, no. Well, it's just tied up right now. It's just tied up. Right. Right. Right. But I mean, technically Okay. It opens right up. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. They were concerned about that when they installed it. Yeah. Yeah. And that's I mean, that's what we're looking for is the safety of the situation. Did you want to go up and get the kid? Jeffrey explained that he had two children living with autism, but kept only the older 11-year-old boy behind bars, claiming it was due to the boy's strength and alleged destructive behavior. Moments later, the father of four offered an explanation for the children's absences. Hi, baby. How did I go to school today? Uh, they've been sick for about the last couple of days. Um, we're good. She doesn't she doesn't need to come all the way down. Or do you have questions or uh No, I don't know why she doesn't. Yeah, she uh they've had the flu for about all of last week. It started with him and they were throwing up and she caught it, he caught it, whole house got it for me. So Okay. Yeah. Yeah. And that wasn't related to the school though that they had the flu. No. Okay. So commun communications communication is huge. All right. So no matter what call the school cuz I've even had like casinos call us to check on employees. Okay. Casinos, adults, check on their adults because the adults didn't call in sick or this or that and it's been 2 days. So, we even have, you know, big corporations calling on adults employees to make sure they're okay. Okay. So, big thing is communication. Call the school, say, "Hey, she's not feeling well, stomach flu, be offered one days, maybe 5 days, whatever." Same with whatever other children, so that way they have an understanding what's taking place. Jeffrey told police that the family had been sick with the flu, but that excuse didn't get him off the hook so easily. They both share a car and go to work together or something, you know. So, yeah, I was passed out and didn't know if it was just right pounding or not. And so, his speech isn't uh very good right now, right? Yeah, it's not. Okay. When he was first born, I mean, he he didn't actually start talking till he was about four or five years old. Okay. We thought he was just going to be non-verbal for his whole life. Yeah. But, you know, he's been going to school and basically all all his verbal skills are basically just what he wants and then what he copies and hears off of the phone. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Cuz I try to communicate through with him through the the window through the plywood just to make sure he was good. I'm like, "Hey, are you okay? You know, everything good?" Cuz he was bum bum. And of course, the way it sounds because of his size, I mean, it sounded horrible. But I was like, "Well, he's not screaming like he's in pain or anything like that." I was like, you know, hey, I don't see any cause to be concerned in that aspect cuz he's yelling, you know, some I just like as long as he's, you know, if he's, you know, using his head like some of them do, as long as the helmet or something like that, you know, he loves using his feet to kick. Doesn't look like he's got any injuries or anything like that. So, that's good. Yeah. We've had to all this plywood we've had to put up just so he doesn't break windows. Yeah. I noticed the one window was broken. I mean, that made sense when I seen it. I'm like outside, the officers called CPS to give them a rundown of what was going on at the scene. So, um, the situation is, uh, we're probably going to we're going to need somebody in route here. So, we got our SVU on the way. Um, their most autistic child whose name is is um, basically caged into the downstairs living area. And when I say caged, caged. Um, he's naked. There's feast around. It's extremely messy in the area. And, uh, windows are boarded up. So, when our SVU gets here, I don't know what children may need to go with you guys, but this is extremely autistic. a very strong uh young boy because he he tear he tears apart the house. He's teared cupboards off the wall and stuff like that. He's just strong and very destructive as a child with his level of autis autism. He doesn't have I'm surprised he doesn't have a helmet on, you know, so he's not banging his head against things. But like he was pounding on the plywood that's over top of the windows and it was I mean you could hear from the street. I mean just thuds thuds thuds thuds. But when I was trying to ask him his name and stuff, he couldn't uh he's not cognitively able to answer questions. So with that, I mean, he's been out of school for a while, I guess. And I mean, I could understand why in a sense. Um I don't I mean, you'd almost have to have a specialist come into the house and meet with them. Um they've been sick though, too. It looks I I don't see that it doesn't appear that the kids look sick right now, but there was some sickness going around last week like throwing up, flu kind of stuff. Coming up, the children's moms arrived at the scene, giving the officers an opportunity to talk to her for the first time. Hey, you Misty. Hey. So, we got called here. My name is Officer Boie. got called here because the Clark County School District uh truency officers were tasked to come out here um to try to make contact, make sure the kids were okay. All right. So, that's why we came out here was to assist them. Um based on them not making contact, they could hear some screaming from the inside. So, that's where we went ahead and uh they called us to assist and try to figure out what the situation was. Okay. So, we came here um and their job was to make sure that the kids were okay cuz they haven't been in school, right? and nobody's been calling the school to give the updates. So, they weren't aware that the children were sick. So, your husband, we're talking to him right now. He informed us that they were sick and that was one reason why they were out of school. Um, but there was also concerns based on uh, you know, we heard the yelling from the inside, the pounding on the inside. You know, what's what's the real situation? Police identified the mom as 46-year-old Misty Scandlin. Does that make sense? So, that that brought up Yeah, we see that. We understand that and we know that's a challenge. Um, so based on that, uh, going in there talking to your husband was asleep, so it was hard to get him up. He finally came to the door. So we were talking to him, trying to understand us the whole situation of everything. Does that make sense? So based on that, we're here now. We're going to be sticking around for a little bit. We got a few more questions to ask and go from there. Does that make sense? Did you leave work early? All right. Well, thanks for coming out early. Back inside the home, another officer asked Jeffrey a few final questions before child protective services arrived to help rescue the child from the cage. Um, when when did you have this installed then? Uh, a few years ago probably 6 years ago. Oh, wow. Okay. So, he was strong at a young age. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Jeez, buddy. That's just part of his stmming. He just Oh, yeah. Yeah. You know, that's that's Yeah, I get it. So we actually have um you know the the good thing about this is we can start a conversation and stuff. We have a team right now that called crisis response team and their main goal is to help people like this in the situation having these challenges and things like that no matter what the age is because they're you know from from kids all the way up to um you know 80 year olds you know. So when we uh and they also help with like people as well, but um they they come and help and provide uh resources um try to help out with finding a program, a plan, you know, things that can help out the family cuz it's I know you've grew he's grown up with it, you've grown up with him and stuff in this realm. Yeah. But sometimes you get stuck in the same patterns and don't realize, you know, all of a sudden 2 years later there's more resources out there, but you haven't looked for resources for 2 years. Does that make sense? Yeah. So, there might be more resources out there that you're not even aware of. Okay. You know, um I know sometimes the schools are very good at helping with resources as well. Um but you know they have their protocols or people they work with and we have we're kind of independent in a sense that uh our team uh it's it's a newer team so it's probably why you haven't heard of it but they're they're newer at uh dealing with these situations or not with these situations dealing with helping people. So but they're able because they're new they're they're grabbing all this information everywhere they can come from. And one of the main officers has an adult child that's on the spectrum. And so he he knows exactly what it's like, you know, between the different triggers and things like that. And they might grow out of a trigger and develop another trigger, you know, so they're a really good team that understand the situation and could help you with uh additional tools. Okay, that makes sense. The officer kept the suspects talking until reinforcements arrived to speak with the child inside the enclosure, who clearly didn't seem happy with the situation. A gate open. The bubble guppies. A gate open. Oh, the gate open. You have You beautiful voice. I love to hear you talk. Can you tell me something else? Gate opens soon. Yes. Would that make you happy? Oh, I can't wait to make you happy, buddy. He doesn't answer. Just hello. I know you want the gate open, baby. We're working on that right now. Sounds like there's a problem with that. Okay. Um, master bedroom is up there right at the very top of the stairs to the left. There's shotguns. So, um, if by chance I will catch you, we're working on the gate right now, sweep. This angle captured what living inside the cage was like with boarded up windows and human waste smeared on the floor. Hey, can we talk about the words, you know? Yeah, the words you know. You like the gate open. Why do do you like the gate open? Yes. Do you like to be back here? Go back here. Here in this room. Do you like this room? Hey buddy, do do you like this room or do you out? [Music] Do you want the gate open? You like the gate open? Yeah. Soon. See you real soon. So, guess what? Guess what? Soon soon gate open. Yeah, soon gate open. Gate open. Yeah, soon. Coming up. Emergency services arrived at the scene and granted the 11-year-old's request. Gate open. Gate open. Gate open. That's right, bud. Soon. Gate open soon. You guys ready? We're ready, sir. And they're contained, right? Yes. Heads that way. Up. Yeah. Up bed. We're going to open gate and go bed. Open gate. Sit bed. Open gate. Sit bed. Open gate. Sit bed. Battery level is low. We just wait. Hold on. Just wait one second. Yeah. Yeah. We're going to the bathroom. Yay. Here we go. Right to the bed. When the gate was opened, the child was put onto a stretcher to evaluate his physical condition. So, we just have somebody just so Yeah, we're going to we're going to if it's cool, we'll both go in the back with you guys. Cool. Let's play. [Music] Jeffrey Scanland and Misty Scandlin were both arrested and charged with one count of abuse and one count of neglect. Moving on to the case where officers found a kidnapped woman in a storage container, luckily still alive. Music playing the screams. In the black box. Oh my god, dude. Long story short, I wanted to On May 2nd, 2023, officers were dispatched to a residence in Ohio after receiving a tip about a missing woman who was allegedly locked up in a man's basement. Here's the footage of how the incident unfolded as the officers made contact with the man. Bro, you can't be here like this. You can't be here like this, bro. I'm just knocking on your door. I understand that, but you making you making me hot. What? You're making me hot. What does that mean? All right, come on out. Apparently, this all started in front yard. Give me a few minutes to take a look. How you doing, sir? Y'all can't be out here like this. My name's Officer Robas. That's officer Oed. Just so you know, everything's recorded. Listen. Yes. Turn those cameras off, please. Well, what's what's going on? Can you please turn the cameras off? You have to give me a reason, and I can't. You guys are making my my spot hot. I work for you guys. Okay, long story short, I work for you guys. Please get out here. You guys are blowing the spot. Who do you work for? I can't tell you that. Why? I cannot tell you that because I'm not allowed to tell you that. When officers made contact with the suspect, 31-year-old Delante Edmund Guyger, he asked them to turn off their body cams, claiming he was some sort of undercover FBI agent. Of course, they didn't comply. And as the scene unfolded, the disturbing reason why he didn't want anything caught on camera began to surface. Okay, so just understand that. Well, here, go home. We have a call here, sir. Let me just tell you why we're here and then we'll leave. It could be nothing. I don't know. I don't know anything about you. All right. I'm just saying y'all can't be here. Y'all making my spot hot. All right. Well, that doesn't make any that doesn't make any sense. Don't I I don't It don't need to make sense to you. You So, what I need y'all to do is Hey, sorry, can you come over this address for a minute? No, don't don't do that, bro. The man was suspected of having a woman tied up in his basement. And this was likely the reason why he didn't want the officers to enter the home. Okay, long story short, I need y'all to leave. Make a phone call. Well, we're not going to leave that quickly until the camera is going. There's nothing going tied up in the basement. There ain't nobody tied up in the basement. Can we look? No. No. But why? Why not? Because I say so. Um, it's something tied up down there. No. What's your name, buddy? I can't tell you that, bro. What do you mean you can't tell me that? This your truck? My dump truck? That's my company truck. That's right. It's in my It's Yeah, there's nothing going on with Is it in your name? No. Then why why don't you want to tell us who you are? I'm trying to tell you I am an confidential informant. That's all I have to say. You guys are bing right now. You guys are No, that's not all you have to say. That's Who told you that? I I can't say nothing else. Well, if there's something down in the basement, we got Nobody in the basement. I just What I So why can't I look? Why do you Why do you all that stuff that went on in the past with those three girls, man? We got to take this seriously. What three girls? Gina, the Jesus. And I don't know. You know what I'm saying? If we don't take this seriously about something, I'm about to give you my social security number. Oh, yeah. Stop. Please don't. We're not going in without Yeah, he can't do that. Tell him please not to do that. Do what? I'm not going in your fine. Sergeant, please tell him not. He's not going. Okay. I'm going to give you my social security number. I want you to run it. Okay. Don't come up. What's going on is you guys had a crackhead make a foster claim. All right. Okay. Well, that's an answer. That's it. Well, then we still have to follow up on it. There's nothing going on, sir. All right. All right. But do you understand our point? I understand your point. You're actually If we just walk away and somebody actually is there, what are we going to do? Well, that's what you guys are going to have to do because I'm not letting you inside. Do you see where Do you see where the problem lies? No, there is no problem. We don't just write he said it's cool and we leave. Well, that's that's how it goes. Because if I No, that's not so what do you mean? Listen. So, they're not going to let this go. No, listen. So, either today, tomorrow, the next day, in the next 5 minutes, you're going to considerly have these problems. And if we have to talk to Detective Smith and say, "Hey, do you think this guy would have a girl kite up in his basement?" He's going to say no. Is he 100%, bro? I just He's willing to risk his career for all that. You think I'm [ __ ] Oh my gosh. You're going to take a a crackhead's word over uh Detective Detective Smith's word, right? I haven't spoken to Detective Smith. Well, you going to talk to him, man. He going to let you know what's going on. I I was down there for an hour with him yesterday. Okay. I just left my probation officer. Why would somebody Why would somebody say that? Crackheads. But why would a crack say that about you? The crack is But probably cuz they want more crack, bro. Do you have crack? No, I'm not going to. Why would I say that? Why would you ask me that on camera? I don't know. Why would you do that to me? I know I don't have no crack. It's my job. Well, why would the crackhead be here then? The officers noticed major inconsistencies in the story of why they weren't allowed to enter the basement. Despite this, the officers insisted on coming into the house to search for the woman. There's a lot of music playing the screams. I know that's there's a lot of music. I had to knock for a minute on the back. So, let's go back. Yes, you can, bro. Yes, you can. I'll talk to you in your officers coming. Talk to Texas. I do, too. I only want you I only need you in my house, bro. We'll be fine. Please. Please. You understand that the safety issue of it, right? For a police officer, bro. You know what I mean? Trust me, kill me. He's fine. He's a silly cat. Oh, anybody got a lighter? I smoke my nerves. I do. If you My nerves are really bad. Let's get out of the rain. I got a lighter. Just stay here. I want to get out of here, too. I talked to you. No, dude. There's too much going on. Just no. No. All right. Stand outside. Leave this crack in case. The basement turned out to be empty, but the officers weren't convinced that was the end of the story. No cost. Okay. Later that night, a different informant told the officers a haunting story about the suspect. His girlfriend see he has a girlfriend named who's a black girl and they tied her up, stabbed her, beat her and killed her. He showed me pictures. He they made he made her write a thousand times. I am a rat. I am a snitch. I am a rat. I am a snitch. Then where he murdered her at he ripped up where the fireplace is. He ripped up all like the tile right there. He told me I have to paint it and I have no choice. He wants me to paint it tomorrow. And he was telling me everything about my pierce. He said I'll you too. So he's like spill a heart. He literally just [ __ ] and he told me I guess he put her in the basement. My friend Katie see her in the basement called the police and they said it would he called the detective. Detective said we'll just let let them search your um basement. So he moved her body from the basement to upstairs and let the cops come in and search the basement and left. Apparently, the suspect had moved the body from the basement earlier that day after hearing that police were on their way. The woman's account of what had really been inside became a major breakthrough. Officers returned to the home, this time with a greater sense of urgency and a much clearer idea of what they were looking for. Hey, hey, did did you talk to Detective Smith? Did he tell you what's going on? Yes. All right. So, I appreciate this. Um, he's a line before this. Yeah. You know my number. What's up, bro? How y'all doing? I'm in the overtime now, man. Come through the background. Okay. Yeah, I can do that. Is that cool? Yeah. Yeah. You sure? Yeah. Thanks for all my bro. Sorry for my attitude. Okay. Give me 5 seconds. Leave me the bad car. Oh, no. All right. In these quote 5 seconds, the suspect was most likely trying to hide the body for the second time. After waiting for about a minute, the suspect came to the back door. Yo, Jake, did they know what I told you about though? Listen, we're here to look to see for a body. That's it. Um, you give us consent to make sure there's no one laying down in here. This is my uncle. Yeah. All right. Go outside. You going to let him out? Yeah. Yeah. You take off, man. You do you give us I'm going walk I'm going walk you up through this. As the officers searched the house, they heard a harrowing sound coming through the walls. Where you at? Where you at, man? M35. You can send us two numbers. All right, we're looking. Hey, how do you get to her? In the black box. Yeah. Oh my god, dude. Radio, sit here, miss me. I'm terrible. Oh my gosh. I'm terrible. All right. How old are you? I'm 60. 60-y old female. Step up. EMS. Are you injured besides that? I'm paralyzed. You're paralyzed. I'm paralyzed. What's your name? EMS is EMS is in route. Are you cold? I hurt. You hurt? All right. We want to get you out of there, but I'm afraid to move you. I'm going to let EMS do all that. Okay. Hurt so bad. What did he do to you? He did what? You want to fire? At least get her up. She says she's fire here. They can Are they here? No. They've been dispatched. Huh? Did he stab you? Damn. Where are you, you think? In my arm. Your arm. All right. Did he sexually assault you at all? No. Okay. Do you know how long you've been here? No. Did is it just one day? The victim was transported to the hospital. As for Delante, he was taken into custody and brought to the station where detectives led him into an interrogation room. That was but like I wasn't going to. So I wasn't going to I've been feeding her and you know what I'm saying, but I just can't have her. Alabama. I just cuz I'm working with Detective Smith trying to get him 10 guns, five AKs, four Glocks three that's supposed to be going into the valley like next week. You know what I'm saying? I'm trying to get him mov 6 ounces a day on crack and I'm trying to get him descriptions of ounces a day. But like I found out that this is that and you know what I'm saying? If I was when you found out who I was that that that the lady that that that what I was taking care of in my house um is a rat and if she was to get back out on the street exposed okay you know get you know what I'm saying? So like I'm new to this I understand how up I know I can't get out of this man. You know what I'm saying? I know I know it's Dante recounted the details like it was pretty basic for him to deal with stuff like this. Tuesday. So she probably got there like Monday or something. Yeah. And one day she was kicking it, cool, calm, collected. Hold up, hold up, hold up. You know what I'm saying? Eating, lying to me. Like, dude, you tripping. Like, why do that? You know what I'm saying? So, that's how that went down, bro. I apologize, bro. Okay. But I like I just die out here in these streets with y'all with these crackheads cuz this is serious. I keep on telling them like, I need to talk to a a corporal. Put me in a room by myself. Like, the way y'all play like it was 50 cars in front of my house. I don't think the streets talk. You know what I'm saying? Type [ __ ] Like, so like I up, but like I'm new to this and I feel like my life is in danger. People trying to three times already. You feel kind of been shot in my underneath my underarm, blood, all type of weird. This is crazy. And I felt like I was going to die. If I didn't hold her for like two days and tell her like let her know what was going on, I was going to kill the [ __ ] Feel like would have been dead. Long story short, I wanted to catch you in a minute. Would you mind walking me through again? I I know it's a little tough right now and it's it's bad time but like everything that went through like the time where you and were together like what happened during those days tell her move her from the basement to another room fed her showered her gave her some water put a blanket over her telling you the truth no let's find Was I raping her? No. Okay. Is that what you about to ask me? No. You about to ask me? No. Like, were you giving her drugs and stuff like that? Why would I give her my drugs? I just man at any point were when was she asking to leave? Different things like that. She has nowhere to go. Okay. She has nowhere to go. All she was just asking was why? Stop. I won't do it again. I'll never tell. I'll never tell. I'll never tell. blast, please. I'll never tell. I know I deserve this, but I'll never tell. Like, that's a culture in the streets. You know what I'm saying? I got four beautiful kids. Okay. So, during this time when the traffic stop occurs and she goes on her way, was there anybody that ever said like besides like if she was doing anything that like, "Yeah, she told me that." No, I thought it was somebody else until I did my homework. Okay. So this is all you transpiring doing everything doing all your own stuff in your head and like hey listen to the detectives as we log out the car detectives like you can go. Thank you. Okay. Okay. You ain't even get searched it's crack $200 worth of in a car skill and they just you didn't even get searched. Yeah. Yeah. Just forget your bag. You're forgetting your bag. They're helping her out with Don't forget your bag. Go ahead. Go. Thank you. Dante mocked the detectives and then tried to cut a deal to dodge the charges. Did I see it on TV? I'm excited. I'm so slick, right? I'm slicking in. I almost got almost got away. Yo, cops horrible, boy. I'm slick, boy. And I ain't trying to brag no boss. I try to brag no boss, bro. You know what I'm saying? We going We I'm going help y'all out flat out. But I can't be I can't sit in this room. I can get keys and keys and keys and keys and guns and guns. You going to see it in my phone. I know everybody big. I just want to know. I know. I know I'm in trouble right now. I know I'm in trouble right now with this this happen after I make those busts for you. You know what I'm saying? The judge will understand that. She should understand that. You know what I'm saying? Like Yeah. Yeah. You know what I'm saying? Like you you know what I'm saying? Right. Right. So like I need to go home. home turned out to be the last place that Delante was going. He pleaded guilty to felonious assault, kidnapping, tampering with evidence, and having weapons under disability. He was sentenced to 16 to 20 years in prison. Now, to a case where a father stood beside officers as they uncovered the heartbreaking discovery of his daughter, deceased. How are you related, sir? I'm a dad. Your dad? [Music] Okay. And then if you would just come unlock the door quick and Okay. She's gone. What? Madison was a 9 mm. Well, I thought she just passed away. She's dead. I was just told she just passed away. She's dead. On May 12th, 2022, 23-year-old Madison Clevenger failed to show up for work. Known for her dedication and passion as an EMT, her absence quickly raised concerns. When her colleagues couldn't reach her, they contacted her family who rushed to her home. But when they knocked on the door and rang the bell, there was no response at all. Her sisters puppy. Hi. How old is she? Uh in early 20s. Early 20s. Any of y'all know family member or anything? Oh, you're a family member. Okay. Yeah, sister. Sister. Okay. Got a cry bar or something so I can break in. Yep. Um there's a window unit back here. I think we can probably move that window unit. Not the not the closed one because it's clearly um screwed in, but the other one we could probably get in that uh far window unit back here. We can probably get through there. Growing increasingly anxious, the family called the police for assistance. Together, they managed to find a way into the house through a window. Madison's dad was the first to enter. How are you related, sir? I'm the dad. Your dad? Okay. [Music] And then if you would just come unlock the door quick and the dad came to unlock the front door and as he opened the door his face revealed the nature of what he had just discovered. Okay. [Music] Okay. Yeah, she's gone. 211 212. She's 107. Okay. I'm going to need y'all to go out. I'm sorry, sir. I'm sorry for your loss. Can we Can we step outside? When officers entered the room where Madison lay, she had no pulse and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The area was quickly secured as detectives and forensic teams moved in to investigate, documenting every detail. There were no signs of forced entry. A chilling hint that Madison may have known her killer. She She's She's dead. I'm sorry. You go in. No. I'm sorry. [Applause] The detectives focused on her relationships, particularly her recent boyfriend, Hunter Bishop, as a possible suspect. Why don't they pulled over? I've heard that name, too. Oh, he's friends with some real winners, too. real winner, she said. Yeah, he is. I think and I think I've heard of him in that in that regard. Something about your baby mama calling me daddy just sits right with me. Well, this was from May 6. That's the last time he's posted anything. That was last week. Nine days ago. Yeah. He may have his settings set up that some of his posts don't post unless you're friends with him or something. Neighbors reported seeing Madison's boyfriend leaving her home the night before her body was discovered. Officers were already suspicious and his reaction when they spoke to him only deepened those suspicions. Let me see your hands, man. Hey, I'm Officer Ash with the police department. How's it going today? I'm doing good. Uh, you got your license, registration, and insurance? Uh, yeah. driver's license. Is there anything in the vehicle I need to be worried about? Any bombs, guns, drugs, illegal contraband? You ain't got any firearms or anything in the in the No. vehicle. Okay. Mr. Bishop, do you mind taking a step out of the vehicle for me? What for, officer? Well, I just want to make sure there's nothing in the vehicle I need to be aware about. There is it? Okay. Well, to be honest with you, you're wanted there it is. Uh, our C is needing to speak with you. Who? Your what? Our C, our detectives need to speak with you. So, I need you to step out of the vehicle and I just Okay. Um, can I turn my vehicle on? Roll my windows up. Yeah, we'll we'll let you turn it back on. And I just need you to step back out here real quick cuz at this point at this point you are being detained. You're not being arrested but you are being detained. There was an incident that happened last night that you need to that our detectives need to clear up with you. Okay. Oh. Do you have a warrant or anything? No. That's what I'm saying. Right now right now you're being you're just being detained. You're not being arrested. Okay. Okay. Okay. Make sure. No. What's that in the front of your pocket or front of your shirt? Where's the gun at? I don't have a gun. There. Well, you have a holster. Where's the gun at? I don't have a gun. one. Where's the gun that's supposed to go in there? Okay. Like I said, as of right now, you're just being detained for questioning. Okay. If you would go ahead and put your hands behind your back for me. I'm going go ahead and place you in handcuffs. So, there's not a gun in the in the in the vehicle. No. Do you mind if I take a look to make sure? Okay, there's no problem. All right. If you would to sit back here to my vehicle, like I said, we'll get you we'll get it all rode up and all this fun business here in a minute. Okay. And I'll let you get some stuff if you need something out of there. I don't want to leave my car here. No. No. It's going it's going to go with us one way or another. Either you're going to drive it or we'll have it towed. One of the way I can't afford to get it towed. Okay. Why am I sitting in the back? Just cuz you can't sit up front. Police obtained surveillance footage from around Madison's apartment and nearby areas to trace her boyfriend's movements. What they found was chilling. The couple had recently visited a gun shop together. With that discovery, suspicion turned into probable cause, painting a picture of premeditated betrayal. Armed with enough evidence, detectives brought Madison's boyfriend in. The interrogation room was now set to become the place where they'd uncover the truth. All right, before we get to the top, we got this paperwork, just like everything else. Am I Am I being charged with anything? I don't know what's going on. No, right now we're just doing our investigating part of it. Why we wanted to talk with you today? That's no idea. Okay, that's fine. I'll fill you in on the details as much as I can. Our officers went out to residents today to check on welfare of medicine. She missed an appointment which apparently is unlike her. And when we finally was able to locate her, we found out she had passed away. At this point, we are trying to talk to any and everyone who has known her or has seen her previously and is trying to put our pieces together. So, that's why I'm talking to you today. Oh, wow. Pay close attention to the boyfriend's reaction when told of his girlfriend's sudden death. Oh, wow. Moments later, another detective entered the room. This kind of switch up is a common interrogation tactic designed to increase psychological pressure and catch the suspect off guard. Um, Detective Ripp had to step out for a little bit. He's following up on some other stuff. Uh, he asked some questions about the uh the traffic stop and everything cuz my officers were telling me some some concerning things. They found a holster appendix holster here on is empty. Was there a gun in it? There was no gun in it. Um, why would you carry a holster without a gun? You know, I I wouldn't want to lug this stupid thing around if I didn't have a gun in it. Um, why' you have a holster? Did you go to Guns Plus and purchase a gun? I gave her some advice on picking something out for her. Right. Did you guys go together? She shot it. Did you go out and shoot at the pond up there and got the targets and stuff? You spray paint the targets and all that other stuff. You remember that? We had targets, too. Yeah. The detective first questioned the suspect about the gun, then got more direct, pressing him hard for the truth. You got a holster on you. You got a gun in your car. It's probably got your fingerprints all over it. I got a I've got a 9 mm uh casings from when you guys went shooting. I had the targets when you went shooting. I got stuff at the crime scene that says what killed Madison was a 9 mm. Well, I thought she just passed away. She's dead. I was just told she just passed away. She's somebody shot her. I mean, um, wow. Um, I was just told she passed away. She did pass away. Well, I guess I would never inform how. Yeah. I mean, we I believe you took my car out there to go [ __ ] I guess she could have left it in the car. I mean, I was at my house all night last night. All right, coming up. The detectives switched once again as a third investigator entered the room. This time, the approach was emotional, hoping to break through the suspect's defenses. I want to know, am I dealing with the absolute cold blooded kid that dealt with somebody before and now lo and behold, you got a hold of another gun and just some things happen or am I dealing with the person that spread of the moment things happen. The simple fact is I've got you on video holding a gun. We've got statements from individuals saying you shot a gun. That's enough right there in itself. So, what I want to know is who is the person I'm dealing with? Who am I dealing with? Mr. Bisher, did you kill? Absolutely not. Mr. Bisher, did you hear? Absolutely not. Everything you're telling me right now is not the truth. I don't have Look at me. Face me. Come talk to me. What happened? Start from the top. What time did you go over there yesterday? I don't know. Sit in the parking lot for I don't know 15 30 minutes. I don't know. Went over house on the porch. Smell a couple cigarettes. Soon. The detective then made the final squeeze for the truth. You should lay it all out for them. I'm going to go check on a few things, verify a few things, and I'll be right back. Okay. So, you're really good at your job. I want you to remember I told you quite a while ago that I'm talking to you. Um I'm not going to write a statement for you because it is obvious that I'm making this some details that will be better displayed or showed in videos because there will be um McDonald's video footage and I can promise you we're going to get every bit of that. But I want your statement as far as what happened. Okay? This is your chance to write it all down, to lay it all down for me. This is so that you can make it crystal clear for me. So, give me just a second. I'll be right back. The case proceeded to trial with Madison's family attending every hearing in hope of justice. In the end, the jury found Hunter Bishop guilty and he was sentenced to life in prison, ensuring he would never have the chance to harm anyone again.
