We got everything that's going on, okay? We want to make sure that all the people that are there are the people that they're >> [music] >> Our son. Talen Mo- >> She just moved out here in February. >> She She moved here in February? >> Every call that comes through dispatch carries the weight of the unknown. But, what happens when the female cops make discoveries that will haunt them for years to come? >> Oh my god. >> Man, let me step back. >> And then, the guy was moving around the fire, just throwing more gasoline. >> These were the moments when good female cops made horrifying discoveries. [music] We begin with a case where a report about a 3-year-old girl living in unsafe conditions led deputies to a home that left even the most experienced officers at a loss for words. >> With my grandfather My grandfather. >> Yeah. You're the grandfather? >> I got a baby, yeah. >> Okay. >> 60 Charlie, I'm 10-12 with the grandfather there. >> Lane, it's this house here. >> Yeah. They're saying that this grandfather's here with the with his son. And they said they came to do a welfare >> Yeah, I saw that. >> When I went to towards the bedroom >> Okay, thank you. >> On August 26th, 2024, deputies with the Simpson County Sheriff's Office responded to an urgent report of a 3-year-old girl living in unsanitary conditions with no running water and no guaranteed daily meals. When they arrived, the parents were at the door, and the deputy made one thing clear. He wasn't leaving without seeing that child. >> Yes, other side. Need somebody to block right there. Pull block that whole area because it it goes down to that car. Yeah. And then, that guy on the phone there that guy on the phone there he's the guy who entered. >> Okay. >> Okay. What you're going to do is you're going to direct this officer to make sure he stays 10-4 with him, right? >> Okay. >> So, who walked in the house? >> Okay. Hey sir, would you mind moving that crew Well, we got to block off that blood area cuz they're cutting it off, but can you stay 10-12 with him? I'm going to go get rusty and stuff like that. >> Okay. Yeah, he pronounced, so you want to get his information. >> Okay, perfect. >> What address? What address you talking about? >> I don't know. >> Um, the woman >> Can you get me the address? >> And what apartment? >> I don't know. >> You did it You called it in? Did you call You just How did you get the address? >> I didn't have the address. I know she stayed here. That's her car. That's her car right there. >> Yes, her car. Which car is that? That blue car right there is her car. And who is that The owner of that car is who? >> Passing Jefferson. >> Okay, who is she to you? >> That's my nephew's mom. >> Your nephew's mom? Okay. And who And she's your Who is she to you? >> My grandfather. My grandfather. >> Yeah. You're the grandfather? >> Of the baby, yeah. >> Okay. >> 60 Charlie, I'm 10-12 with the grandfather of the the baby. >> And where's the baby at now, you know? >> Is he up there? >> I don't know. >> What was he? >> Okay, we we They're in there now, so they'll be in a minute. >> Police, EMS, and forensics investigation teams arrive at the residence, and what they find is the worst-case scenario. Family members begin arriving on scene and are questioned by officers. They provide essential information necessary to identify the perpetrator of the crime. However, they can't provide any information unless they have a direct connection to the victim. As a result, most of the neighbors are unaware of what has transpired behind the closed doors of the apartment. >> Are they all there? >> I don't know, so I can't tell you anything that I don't know. I got here just just before you. I was just putting up those signs. And what is your relationship with the uh apartment? That's your dad? Okay. >> Um Can I get the rest of your tape? >> Yep, I I didn't I didn't can it up. I was waiting the truck was going to leave, so they they made >> We'll get the golf cart in a little bit. We need to talk to somebody uh >> Okay. >> I'm here now. >> Does she have the baby with her or not? >> No, no, she doesn't. >> They came to our house looking for these two. >> Okay. >> And I didn't know what was going on, so I was worried. Thank you. >> Hey, I'm sorry about that. Can I get your name real quick? I didn't catch it, but uh what's your husband's name? >> Ivan Mosley. >> Um were you talking just cuz you were here or >> What officers found as they made their way through the house stopped them cold, and they hadn't even reached the room where she slept yet. >> Uh this is my um my nephew. This is my nephew, and that's my dad. And I just ran down. >> Okay, so you're family to the residence? >> Mhm. >> Okay. All right, thanks for the information. >> So, I got the grandfather and the grand and the the son of the grandfather. They said they came to here to do a wellness check for for their >> Okay, the grand >> Yeah. >> The grandfather, I need to get him. Is he around somewhere? >> Yeah, he's right there. He's in the back. Yeah, I got his name. With the other kid. >> Yeah. >> They're both Mosleys. Yeah. They're both Mosleys. >> What's uh >> The father's name is uh David Julius Mosley. >> And then Isaac's the only son. >> And then Isaac is the son. >> All right, David Mosley, his family >> Mhm. >> of resident. >> Mhm. >> Okay, thanks, sir. Appreciate it. >> Mhm. >> Um >> And I got the >> They said Sunstar didn't come in. >> I got the paramedics. I got all the officers that arrived. >> Uh-huh. >> According to the first individuals to arrive on scene, they claimed to be the victim's grandfather and uncle. A baby about 2 years old was with the victim, but the investigation and the apartment records show that no baby had been present. This presents a brand new puzzle for the authorities. Another child is at risk, and they have to track him down. This gives them a crucial clue about who may be responsible for the crime. >> Is there a lease agreement for uh the individual in that apartment. >> Officers documented every inch of the house as they made their way through. And when the child finally woke up and emerged, that only deepened their concern. They followed her to the room where she slept, taking in every detail, every corner, because what they were recording was going straight to social services and the courts. >> We think they're both here. >> Okay. >> But I don't know. They said that the baby should be in there. Did we search for a baby? >> No, we We're holding the scene because We got to make sure that the baby's okay. Let's talk to the tenant. They saying >> This is this house here. >> Yeah. They saying that the grandfather's here with the with his son. And they said they came to do a welfare check. And the baby should be with the mother. So, they don't know Did we Did we search for a baby? Did we hear a baby crying or anything? >> We didn't hear a baby. >> Where's the maintenance man? >> The maintenance man's back here. I got his name. >> That's him? >> Yeah. >> make sure he doesn't leave. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. We need to hold on to him. >> Okay. I got his ID. Like, apparently, I think he lives in this con- complex. 1160 >> You stay with him. Make sure he doesn't go. >> Okay. >> Put your car right here. S26, I'm uh right here, Mama. Right here. S26, I'm 10-12 our complainant. Hey, Mama. I'm talking [music] to you, okay? Okay. I'm talking to Martinez, all right? >> We're going to stay right here, all right? >> Yeah, I'm going to have somebody else do it. Can you do it? Come talk to me, Mama. We're going to be right over here, all right? What's your name? Okay, but we're still gathering information, okay? And we're still trying to figure out everything that's going on. So, I don't want to give you information that isn't correct, okay? >> They've been in? >> They've been in, but they're still They're still trying to figure out everything that's going on, okay? We want to make sure that all the people that are there are the people that are supposed to be, okay? >> Direct family members of the victim, including her mother and siblings, arrive on scene. Officers must be clear with the details of the situation to notify them properly, but first they need to obtain information and statements that are not influenced by an emotional reaction. The mother's terrified and extremely worried and officers have to do everything they can to gather the necessary information for the investigation and continue the search before it's too late. >> Okay. Spell your name for me. >> L A K E L A >> K A L T A >> I need to advise on weapons. >> And your last name? >> Denson D E N S O N >> Now who is it that you were reporting missing? >> My daughter Passion Jeffrey. >> And her baby? >> And her son. >> Payton >> Mosley. She just moved out here in February. >> She She moved here in February? What apartment? >> Um 3616. >> When did you last hear from her? >> Yesterday around 5:00 in between uh 1:00 I was on the phone with her between 1:00 and I was out here at their house about >> And he was there? >> Yeah. And when I left because I brought him a um glasses, shades, like you saw. It was his birthday. >> Right. >> And we ate ice cream with him and >> Do you know his birthday? Like what what day his birthday was? >> Uh 29th. >> 29th. >> I don't know if that's his birthday. >> Can you write that down for me? >> Can you write that down for >> He's 21. >> They're coming. >> He He's 21. >> Okay, so he just turned 21? >> Yes, yesterday. >> Okay. What does your daughter look like? >> She's short, black hair, about 5'1". >> Yeah. >> And her hair's like this. >> Like that. >> Like in the same color? >> No, dark hair. >> yeah it it it it's black. >> Black. >> She just popped hair, very short short like you said, 5'1". Yeah. >> What was she last wearing? >> Um brown tights and um Taylen birthday shirt. Happy birthday Taylen or two something like that said. >> The orange and blue um birthday shirt. >> Uh I'm going to let this officer take over real quick. He's going to get some information. I've got her I've got her info, her phone number. This is the person that she's trying to report. >> Okay. >> She last saw him at 2:00 or 4:30 and 5:00. And then she was upset by baby daddy's birthday. That's baby daddy's name. Uh birthday was the 29th. I started to get her description. Just get with her. >> Okay. >> I know, Mama. I'm going to go get some info for you. >> Pocheun Jeffrey, age 22, is the victim of the crime and her 2-year-old son, Taylen Mosley, is missing. According to recent information, Pocheun had been living there for a short time and frequently communicated with her family via FaceTime until that morning when there was no contact. The child's father, Thomas Mosley, age 21, has to be located and investigated, but absolutely nobody knows his current whereabouts. >> Yeah. >> He's got his car golf cart here. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Did you check out the apartment over here? Oh, no? >> I walked around them and I took my finger and when I pushed the bathroom window of the bathroom door open, that's when I saw her on the ground. >> Did you hear a child? Did you hear any child? >> No, I tried to look for the kid. I tried to do a quick look through the bedroom and and behind the sofas and I didn't see nothing. The girl from downstairs said that >> Was the front door open or did you open it? >> opened it. >> You had to open it with a key? >> Uh I put the key in and turned it. Now, if it was open, I don't know cuz I was so >> Uh-huh. >> But I didn't realize that I put my hand on the on the Now, I'm out and the zone I was putting it on. Yeah, we still >> You need to stay with us. For for a little while, all right? It's going to be a little while cuz we're going to have a factors investigator coming in. >> I actually live on the property. >> Stay with us. Like, we don't want to make lose you out of sight of you cuz we're going to have to go over a lot of things. >> Yeah, the detective's going to need to talk to you, all right? All right. Is it okay Can I live right there? But is it okay Is it all right if I go and talk to my wife? Cuz my wife is in the know. >> All right. Just let her know. >> All right. >> Yeah, we don't want to I don't want to have you go. >> All right. >> I'm assuming the door was locked because the parents told us on property. >> Yeah, she was there. >> I saw that. >> When I went to towards the bedroom cuz I was like concern was the kid and her safety. After I saw the bathroom door was closed, so I pushed the bathroom door open and I saw she's laying on the floor face down with her shorts down past her buttocks, her blouse is up to her neck and she has a hole about the size of a of a silver dollar on the left side of her skull. But between the ear and the skull, right about here. >> And you didn't see any signs of the child, right? >> No, I tried as I was backing out, I tried to look around the apartment. I look I did walk into the room looked around the side of the bed and I backed out of the apartment and as I was walking out, I tried to look behind the sofa, but I didn't want you know contaminate too much in there. >> Mhm. >> So, I walked right out the door, but I didn't see anything. I didn't hear any any any noise coming from the baby. They told me that the that the boyfriend is in the hospital. >> Yeah. But we're trying to make contact with him and see what's going on. >> The neighbor downstairs stated that she heard them yelling and screaming last night. >> male? >> Yes. >> Okay. How much do you weigh? >> 165. >> Okay. Thank you, sir. Okay. And if you I know you've been advised to stay >> Yeah. >> to stay you can't leave cuz you you were you did witness everything. I I just walked in and saw you and the two other people are standing by as well. So, I mean find some shade, try to stay hydrated. If you need anything by all means let us know so we can grab it for you. >> Y'all got my wife >> The girl was taken to the hospital immediately and what the medical report revealed stopped everyone cold. Visible bruising, a cut above her eye, a wound on her scalp and several broken ribs. The conditions of that home had only been part of the story. With everything documented and the medical evidence in hand, deputies had seen enough. The parents were separated and then came the handcuffs. >> Okay, thank you. Hello. Would you like me to knock on the door? Thank you, officer. All right, guys. Yes, thank you. >> The 35-year-old father and 33-year-old mother were charged with child abuse in the first degree [music] and endangering the welfare of a minor. Turning to a case where the disappearance of a high school senior pulled investigators into a discovery so disturbing, it would stay with every officer on that scene long after the case was closed. >> That somebody had been small or that somebody had been with somebody else's girl or something. It had to do with some nasty [ __ ] And that he was upset and that he needed some backup for a fight. He told me it was just a fight. While he was telling me to >> [music] >> move this way to avoid a camera and to avoid being seen. >> On the 17th of October, 2021, 18-year-old Dwight Grant, known to everyone as DJ, vanished [music] on a Sunday without a trace. He was a senior at Miramar High School, a gamer, and a good kid who didn't drink or smoke and checked in with his family constantly. When he didn't come home and missed school the next morning, alarm bells rang immediately. >> I have anxiety and depression, so like he would >> He has anxiety? >> No, I have anxiety. >> Okay, so he would check on him. Do you know the girl that he's talking to or trying to talk to? >> No. >> No, he Does he have a girlfriend? >> Not to my knowledge, no. >> No? Okay. Great. All right. Um so you you haven't seen him What's up, Matt? No, everything good? Okay. Um All right. Uh Okay. Thank you very much, okay? So you haven't spoken to him since >> Sunday night. >> Is this his behavior? Like does he do He's a good kid? >> He's a good kid. He's a good kid. He doesn't drink. He doesn't smoke. He goes out with his friends. He goes out with his friends. He calls literally all of us all the time to let us know like what's up, how are you doing, or >> Okay. All right. Okay. Same same thing with these kids, have they seen him? Let me Let me speak to them real quick. >> By Tuesday, officers were canvassing the area near Sherman Circle North. What they found in the bushes outside an apartment complex stopped the search and started a homicide investigation. >> When did this all happen at the bottom of the >> At the bottom. And uh see I got to go to the last table that's there. I got to move to the sand and you can see that. Probably they're trying to clean it up. I got to come out of here quick. I got to come out of here quick. >> Yeah. >> I got to come out of here quick when they come out. >> this all happen? >> Sunday. >> On Sunday he went missing Sunday. Um so go around in the middle. Go up to the second floor and put it across so there's no uh no no one goes down the stairwell. >> That way, that way. >> So we got that and that. Um crime scene tape uh crime scene log. Let me get that started. >> Whoever I need if somebody pulls the video from the place, I already have some >> If you If you If you Where's your car at? >> Right here. >> Okay, so >> need to see who was there doing it because I they're probably >> office the office >> The body matched DJ's description perfectly. Two stab wounds, one to the neck and one to the chest. It was too soon to make a positive ID, but officers blocked off the scene and began processing. Back at headquarters, a tipster walked in with something unexpected. Her teenage niece's group chat full of messages from classmates who already knew exactly what had happened. >> Can you just give me a brief rundown? I'm so sorry. >> And what's going on? >> Yeah, cuz I I don't know how >> I'm seeing on the news that they found a body over by Sherman Circle and they keep showing the picture of the kid that goes to Miramar High saying they can't guarantee that it's him. Basically, blah blah blah. >> Okay. >> But I mean, my niece is following all the texts that are coming through that they're her friends and there's people from school there and they know it's him. >> Okay. >> I don't know if that I I don't know on this >> No, I understand. >> assuming that it's him because of what >> Did you say Did you speak to a detective or anything like that? >> No, I haven't talked to anybody. I just came here because my niece was telling me that she had got these texts from this girl yesterday from from the modeling and she said it was the most traumatizing day of her life when she seen him yesterday, which would have been Sunday. >> Yeah. >> So, in my mind one and one, I'm not saying she did anything, but I'm not saying I can't come here and not show you either because She's She's saying >> tells everybody in the >> people she's and she's in a gang what she >> I mean, it could be just to be, you know, the top school or to be tough. >> But you never know. >> Like, you don't know. It's the same thing. I don't want the the text messages here. I don't want them >> To do >> to show my niece's She's that I don't want >> I don't want her to to associate with Okay. >> Right. So, it needs to be kind of >> Got it. I understand. I understand. >> Please, if you can just write on there not to put her name in there. Just in case this girl really is who she says she is. >> You're fine. No, I understand. >> She's a senior and I want my niece to make it out of school. >> I understand. You guys are good. All right. And And anything else? This is my area. If you got more things you You to turn it be here. I'm here until one. >> That's just the words that you put there. It's just They say They say something or see something, say it, and then just It just doesn't sit right with me. >> No, no, I completely understand. Anytime, ladies, okay? >> Mhm, thank you so much. >> Okay, have a good day. >> By Wednesday, the body was officially confirmed as DJ Grant. The group chat that could have been dismissed as teenage gossip had just handed investigators three persons of interest: 17-year-old Andre Clements, 16-year-old Jaysin Smith, and 17-year-old Kristi Parisian. Officers wasted no time tracking them down. >> Miramar Police Department. Miramar Police Department. How you doing, ma'am? >> I'm waiting for my sister to go over there. What happened? >> Is Is Are you the only one here? >> Kristi? >> Is Kristi here? >> No. >> Are you Kristi? >> No, no. >> Oh. >> That's my daughter. >> No, I'm saying is anybody else in the house? >> No. >> Okay. Do you mind talking to us outside for a minute? >> Huh? >> Do you mind talking to us? >> I have a Detective Woods here. >> Hello. >> Hi, how you doing? >> I'm good, thank you. >> Good. Um >> I heard the message. I was at work. I was I don't have a ride. I'm waiting for my sister to go over there. I got the message. >> You got the Come over here and >> What happened? >> I just need to speak to you over here for a second. >> Oh, Lord. >> So, uh right now there's an investigation, and I guess it's your daughter? >> Yeah, that's my daughter. >> Your daughter, her name came up. So, what we're going to have to do is we're going to have to keep you out of the house for now. >> Me? >> Yes, ma'am. Uh Nothing has to do with you personally, but we have to keep everybody out of the apartment. So, if there's anybody else in there that's in there >> My little sister, she's at work right now. >> But nobody else is inside? >> No, only the two of us. >> Okay, yes, she's in, okay. You're the There's nobody else inside right now? >> No. >> Okay. >> When officers arrived at Kristi's apartment, her mother was outside waiting for her sister. She was cooperative and patient, completely unaware of what investigators would find when the search warrant came through. >> That's my phone. >> I need you to put it Jazmine Smith was tracked down late that night. She was ready to talk and what she described made it immediately clear this had never been just a fight. >> I'm sorry, I didn't hear it. >> Which is what we figured after seeing it. >> So, I I need honesty from you, okay? >> I've been 100% I've been 100% honest with you. I know 100%. >> I know, but I just I need to know. Like, does this implicate my child in this action of what happened? >> Um I don't know exactly what happened. You You're telling me that you were told to do something. I don't know what you did. I don't know what you did or didn't do. >> She She said that she was told to um keep him in a corner. >> Andre Okay. Andre told me that somebody had pissed him off. There's somebody who looks messy with somebody else's girl or something. It had to do with some messy chick. And that he was sent and that he needed some backup for a fight. He told me it was just a fight. >> I want to make sure that you both understand because I've said this already to you in the past that you guys don't have to stay here. You do not have to talk to me. >> How are you going to arrest my child? >> No, I'm not arresting your child. I'm not. But I want to make sure that you understand that because she is 16. You'll be I'm being completely honest with you. I want to hear what she has to say. But I I I just I wanted to reiterate because I said it to you and I and she wasn't here. That's all. Okay? Do you understand? Do you Do you understand what I'm saying? >> I understand what you're saying. But I don't want to go to some police station and leave without my daughter. I don't I'm just saying >> You don't have to We have to call this house, but you guys don't have to stay here. That's all I'm saying. >> Smith told officers she had been instructed to dress in all black, wear gloves, and follow Andre's lead. She thought it was going to be a fight, but the more she talked, the harder that claim was to believe. >> He told me to dress up in all black and follow him. >> Andre? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> I wouldn't do anything if he just didn't do this to me. He told me I would have a fight or a fight. We walked all the way there and wound up this way. And Chrissy was there. Chrissy had seduced him from what I know. I was trying to just pretend and forget that it didn't happen. I already knew that if something like this was going to happen, I already knew the cops were going to show up sooner or later. And I was already starting to prepare myself for the worst. Mom, >> What do you mean by preparing yourself for the worst? >> If they send me away, Mom. Because by everything I've already said, I'm an accomplice. And I know this. But I'm sorry. >> Come here. I can't. Come here. >> [snorts] >> I just >> Smith described the entire operation in detail. The route they took to avoid cameras, the disguises, the signals, and the roles each of them played. And then she described the moment everything stopped feeling like a fight. >> So I'd like for you to kind of tell me step by step on how everything occurred. You know? Um from the like how it all started, how you even got notified or whatever, and then moving forward from there. Okay? Just take your time with it, you know, step by step as best as you can. >> Do I start now? >> Yeah, yeah, yeah. I might have questions for you here and there. If I interrupt you, I'm not trying to be rude. I'm sorry. I just want to make sure I you know I get certain details here and there, okay? But uh but yeah, you go ahead. You can just start. >> Before Sunday, before he came over, >> Who's he? >> Andre. >> Andre's from school also? >> Yes. >> You know his last name? >> Clements. >> Clements? >> C L E M M E T S >> M M E T S >> E T S >> Okay. Um is he uh what grade is he in? >> He is senior. >> A senior? >> Yes. >> Okay. Um All right, so you were saying >> Before he ever came over, he told me that Friday, I believe it was Friday, that he had a situation that he needed to deal with. He was wondering if I could help him out with a fight. >> Okay. >> Me knowing that I used to fight in elementary and used to be a bad kid-ish >> Mhm. >> outside of school, I had agreed because he was a good friend of mine. I'm like, it's just a fight. >> Okay. >> So on to Sunday, he had said he was going to be coming over around 6:00. He came over at at least 6:45, close to 7:00. >> Okay. >> And he had proceeded to tell me the whole scenario of "You're going to get dressed in all black. You're going to wear clothes that you don't care about. You're going to wear gloves. You're going to wear a do-rag. I know the whole layout of the building and everything that we need to do this." >> Okay. >> Get dressed. Just wait and then we'll go. >> Okay. >> We had gotten dressed. We had prepared. Our mom had gotten home. We had told her that we were going to go on a walk. We had left the house immediately with me, Andre, and Chrissy. And we had left the complex all the way down. He was explaining to me that the person that he me and him are going to fight with, and that Chrissy was going to seduce to get him to come downstairs. Had messed with a girl that he knew and had essentially, from what I know, >> Okay. >> This is what he had told me. And on the way there, he's telling me exactly where we're going to walk, exactly how we're going to walk, exactly going to do and what we're going to wait for, wait for a signal. And I was like, "Okay, this is just a fight. We had walked up the stairs. We had walked through the front gates of the complex. >> Mhm. Do you remember which complex it was? >> I don't know the name, but I do know that it's the complex next to the old house that we used to live to. We had walked in fully. We were wearing gloves, two sets. We had on all black from head to toe. We had on our hoodies. We had on do-rags to cover our eyebrows and facial hair and anything like >> Okay. >> We had masks on as well. We had walked out and >> Are you talking about masks? >> Yeah, sorry. We had walked out and we were [clears throat] Immediately when we got in there, we had walked over to where the staircase was. There were no cameras. While he was telling me to move this way to avoid a camera and to avoid being seen. >> Okay. >> We had walked through there. He said there was no cameras there, so we had relaxed and chilled out more. I'm just thinking this was a fight. And I'm thinking the reason why we had on all black is because wouldn't if he would fight him cuz he seemed pretty upset over the whole situation of what was going on. Like, okay, maybe he's going to fight him and there's going to be blood and he's just like, I don't need you to get blood on you. >> Right. Right. >> Or anything or you know, I'm just like seeing anything like that. >> Uh-huh. >> So, we had walked up the stairs while Chrissy stayed downstairs and made a call or a text saying that she was here. Me and him were upstairs. She's just talking to me. We're relaxed. We're chilling. And then he got a signal from Chrissy to walk downstairs. We walked downstairs and he tells me to wait on the top of the stairs. And he had a weapon with him. He told me to hold the weapon. We had gloves on at this time still. We had walked down the stairs. He had approached the boy and Chrissy had moved back and walked down the stairs as well. >> Did Did you know this boy or no? Okay. >> When we he boy tried to make a run with it run for it after Andre like approached him and was like, "Yeah, we have a problem." And he had me standing behind him with the weapon. So, he tells me Chris he looked at me and he made a run for it and I'm like, "Okay, well, this is just for intimidation. I'm going to put this down." I ran and I helped Andre to tackle him and put him onto the ground. >> DJ had begged for his life. He told them he wouldn't say anything and wouldn't bother anyone. Andre stabbed him anyway, twice. Smith admitted to holding his legs down while it happened. >> Andre is talking to him saying everything he has to get off of his chest. He's saying how mad he is. And then he proceeds to say, "You know what I have to do, right? That I have to hurt you. Like I have to get you back for what you did." And the boy is like, "You don't have to do this. I won't bother you. I won't say nothing. I haven't seen you guys. I won't say anything. I won't nothing." And I'm just thinking, "Okay, just probably going to hit him or punch him. And then everything else is just he's just going to get to fight. We're going to leave." Andre asked for the weapon after explaining to him that he was going to kill the other boy. He had asked for the weapon and I just handed it to him cuz I'm like, "I don't know about this." But I'm like, "Okay, maybe you're joking." Cuz me and Andre we play something like to mess around and we do like play fighting. We're just very like sibling type relationship. >> Right. >> And he had taken the weapon and he had pushed the other boy into the corner and he was begging not to get hurt. And I'm just thinking, "Okay, he's just going to hit him." And I was Andre told me to come here and help him. I'm like, "Okay, you can do what you want to do. You can punch him or something." And I'm just holding it and then Andre proceeds to rapidly punch her. And then after a while, Chrissy said, "There's a lot of cars here. There's a lot of people watching and it's getting out and you need to hurry it up." So, like, Andre, do what you got to do. You need to hurry it up or we got to go. >> Mhm. >> He proceeded to take out a a small weapon and attempt to >> I'm sorry? >> attempt >> Okay. >> And he was failing and I was just like, "Okay, I didn't see it because I'm holding his legs." So, I'm in a position where I'm holding both of his legs and I'm wrapped around his under torso and I just feel poking right here and I'm wondering what that is and the other boy, he has a the weapon just like waving it just like trying to not get harmed. And then he had another smaller weapon and he took that out and he right here. >> Where is right here? On the neck? Like back side of the neck? >> Like side. >> On the right side? >> Did you do right side? >> After the attack, the three teenagers dragged DJ's body into the bushes, cleaned up, sealed the evidence in a bag, and walked back to the complex where they lit a bonfire with gasoline and burned their bloody clothes in an open grassy area visible to residents. That's when a witness saw them. >> Also, the boy was just like, "You're going to kill me. Just let me out or like end it." Because he kept going in and out. He's like, "Let me out end it or do something." And Andre I'm forgetting. And he had told me and Chrissy he had told me to get Chrissy and get the cleaning supplies. And at this time the gloves that we were having on wearing for a brick had torn. And I was getting nervous. I was getting scared. And I wasn't showing any of it because I'm just like I don't If I show this they're going to know that I'm like I don't know like I can't do this and I'm like freaking out and I'm like I'll do what you say. I didn't tell him this but I'm like I'll do what you say. It is what it is and whatever happens happens. So I had helped Andre move him a certain direction under the cameras under the one camera that we saw right there. And into the bushes. And at this time we both had not eaten. We both were exhausted so he's like push him back here into the bushes and just leave him there. We'll figure out what to do with him at a different time. And I'm just like okay because prior to this he had told me that this was the first person he had ever Prior to this he had told you that? When we were at the house when we were just talking about the whole plan what to do. What was going to happen but he never told me that he was going to kill somebody until at this time. And he was like this is the first person. We'll leave it here. I'll ask Chrissy. >> The witness remembered everything. The fire growing larger, the gasoline bottle, and the material being thrown in. She had even alerted a security guard. And when she saw their faces on the news, she knew immediately they were the same people she had seen that night. >> And the two girls they were just standing there but they weren't moving much. The the chubby girl she was just like moving back and forth like standing in the same spot but moving a little bit. And then the guy was moving around the fire just throwing more gasoline. >> What was he you you Did you What did you see him throw? >> It was It was like a bot- It was like the normal bottles that the >> Like a bottle that you use for like a barbecue or >> Yeah. Yeah, like it looked like a I don't have any water bottles, but it just looked like one of those normal bottles with like, you know how it's like when you go to a restaurant, it's like ketchup. >> Okay. >> Yeah, like he was just throwing the gasoline. >> Okay, like that >> Mhm. Those He was just walking around the fire. He was just throwing more in the fire, which was getting bigger. >> And what was it? >> Uh I don't know. I just know like it looked like some type of material. It didn't look like uh cuz we have like a lot of ducks. It didn't look like they the duck or something. It just It looked like it was a material they I don't know what kind of material. Like clothes. >> Something something of material type. >> Okay. >> Um and did you recognize any of them? >> No, cuz it was pretty far, but um seeing them on the news, their like their faces, that's when I That's when you can like >> that they were the same ones that you saw that night. >> Yes. >> Okay, and then when you saw that fire happening, what did you decide to do that after that? >> Honestly, since they were doing it on the grass, I felt kind of unsafe that they would probably like go to the certain points to spread the fire cuz they're teenagers. So, I just like um I just slowly like I I walked rab- like really fast and I went to the other side of Sherwood Forest, like um the other side of the complex of Lake Vista. >> The other side of like where the leasing office is. >> Mhm. >> So, you were able to see their face clearly. If you were ever able to see them again, you would recognize them. >> Uh I didn't see their face, but I like I saw their like their body shape. And seeing them on the on the photos, you could picture like you could picture them especially the chubby girl. It was very noticeable. I could see her braids. And the kitchen >> alert the security guard >> Yes. >> of the fire. >> Yes. >> And that's when he was made aware. >> Is there any anything else you can think of about that night that kind of stood out to you? >> Um, no, not really. I just like their I just saw like their emotions and right when I came to my apartment, they were >> What what did they appear like? >> They you could you could feel the the traumatization from them and you could feel like they were scared. And but you could also feel like they they had that energy of the way of thinking like he deserved it. Like you could you could notice that. >> Okay. >> And right when I went to my apartment, I immediately went to my balcony to see if they were still there, but they they were gone really fast. >> Right. And all you saw was the >> I all I saw was the burnt grass. >> Investigators now had security footage, eyewitnesses, and Smith's confession, but the most shocking detail of the entire case was still to come, the weapon. >> You had said that the weapon you the guy was using you used it to the boy. I'm I'm assuming it's it's a knife then that he had. >> There was a knife and there was a bigger >> A longer what? >> sword >> A sword. Okay. Um, do you know what what what ended up happening with those? So, it was a a small knife and then the long sword. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Smith claimed she hadn't seen the sword until it was already being used. Detectives weren't convinced. Carrying a sword from one apartment complex to another without anyone noticing was a difficult story to sell, and the text messages on the teens' phones made Smith's claim that she thought it was just a fight even harder to believe. One message read that murder would definitely happen soon. >> When he first came here before all this started, right? When he first showed up at your house, he got here with you you said it was a collection of knives. The small ones was a part of a collection? >> ones I didn't see, but they were like either in his pocket or in the bag that he brought with him. >> Okay. And I guess one of them stayed behind, and then he took one small one, and then the big sword also. So, he you saw the big sword when he first showed up here in the first place. >> Not when he left. I didn't see it exactly. I only saw that there was a bag with it. I was like, "Okay." Cuz somebody else had taken everything out of the house behind this, and I didn't know where that was. And I believe it was there in like a jacket with him or with Christian and Christian and I don't know where the bag was. >> Okay. >> I didn't see it. I wasn't there. >> Within days, all three were detained and charged as adults. Smith and Parisian pleaded guilty and were each sentenced to 25 years followed by 10 years of probation. [music] Andre Clements, who investigators say drove the sword through DJ Grant's chest, pleaded guilty on February 18th, 2025, and was sentenced to 40 years [music] in prison plus lifetime probation. The presiding judge left the courtroom in tears. Next, a case where a wellness check outside of Florida apartment complex led officers to a discovery so disturbing, it would set off a desperate race [music] against time. >> And the baby should be with the mother. So, they don't know Did we Did we search for a baby? Did we hear a baby crying or anything? >> a baby. >> I didn't realize that I put my hand on the No, I'm not. And there's a door officer and she's laying on the floor face down with her shorts to past her buttocks, her blouse is up to her neck and she has a hole about the size of a of a silver dollar on the left side of her skull. >> On March 30th, 2023, St. Petersburg Police received a call from neighbors reporting something seriously wrong at a nearby apartment. No one knew exactly what had happened yet, only that it was bad enough to send everyone running. >> Do we know her name? >> I don't know anything, sir. >> All right. >> I walked in, saw, came out, and called you guys. >> Okay. >> Is there anywhere we can get more room? >> Hey, uh does anybody know her name? Do they know her name at all? >> Sir. I was getting all the information ready. >> Got it. >> It's on the way. >> Quebec Delta Golf Tango 04 should come back to a Nissan Versa blue in color. >> You guys want to go down? >> Yeah, we'll go down there. >> All right. >> Go around. >> Other side? >> Yes, other side. Need somebody to block right there. Pull block that whole area because it it goes down to that car. Yeah. And then that guy on the phone there, that guy on the phone there, he's the guy who entered. >> Okay. Okay. >> What you going to do is you're going to direct this officer to make sure he stays 10-12 with him, right? >> Okay. >> That's who walked in the apartment. >> Okay. Hi sir, would you mind moving that cruiser Well, we got to block off that blood area cuz they're cutting it off, but can you stay 10-12 with him? I'm going to go get rescue and stuff like that. >> Okay. Yeah, uh he's pronounced, so you want to get his information. >> Okay, perfect. Thank you. >> Among the first to arrive were family members claiming they had come to do a wellness check. They mentioned a baby, but when officers searched the apartment, there was no baby inside and nobody knew where he was. >> Who are you guys? You guys got identification I can >> I have it in my car. >> Okay, go get it so we can get everybody squared away. >> Can I call someone? >> Okay, hold on. >> I got to get baby my my my my mother. I can't tell you anything that I don't know. I got here just just before you. I was just putting up those signs. And what is your relationship with the That's your dad? Okay. >> Um Can I have the rest of your tape? >> Yep, I I didn't I didn't close it up. I was waiting The truck was going to leave, so they they may >> Get in the golf cart in a little bit. We need to talk to somebody. Okay. >> Does she have the baby with her or not? >> No, she doesn't. >> They came to our house looking for these two. >> Okay. >> And I didn't know what was going on, so I was worried. They're both Mosleys. >> And the other >> name is uh David Julius Mosley. >> And then Isaac's only the son. >> And then Isaac is the son. >> Isaac David Mosley, he's family >> Mhm. >> of resident. >> Mhm. >> Okay, thanks, sir. Appreciate it. >> And I don't know They said that the baby should be in there. Did we search for a baby? >> No, we're we're holding the scene because >> We got to make sure that the baby's okay. Let's talk to the lieutenant. They saying this is house here. >> Yeah. >> They saying that the grandfather's here with the with his son and they said they came to do a welfare check and the baby should be with the mother. So, they don't know Did we Did we search for a baby? Did we hear a baby crying or anything? >> hear a baby. >> As the victim's mother and siblings arrived on the scene, officers pulled them aside one by one and with every conversation, the picture of what had happened inside that apartment became a little clearer. >> Was your car right here? S26, I'm right here, mama. Right here. S26, I'm 10-12 with our complainant. Hey, mama. I'm talking to you. Hey, I'm charging my phone, all right? We're going to go right with you. I'm going to go get some info for you. >> Building manager had already painted a grim picture. Blood outside the door and what he found when he stepped inside. And now the neighbor directly below confirmed she had heard screaming, slamming doors, and a baby crying the night before. She hadn't realized what she was listening to, and the clock was already ticking. >> Oh, yeah. Do you check out the apartmento bien? Or no? >> I walked around them and I took my finger and when I pushed the bathroom window of the bathroom door open >> Uh-huh. >> that's when I saw her on the ground. >> Did you hear a child? I'm sorry. >> give me my address. >> Thank you so much. >> I've been doing this job for 30 years now and I say that in the 30 years I've been doing this I found maybe 35, 40 people because I work in a lot of old people. >> Right. >> And they've all been natural. This is the first one since I've been here in Florida that I found and I've never seen a crime scene. >> Yeah, wow. What did you see when you went up there? >> Well, there's blood and bloody footprints all over the apartment. >> Yeah, I saw that. >> When I went to towards the bedroom because I was my concern was the kid and her safety I thought I saw the bathroom door was closed so I pushed the bathroom door open and I saw that she's laying on the floor face down with her shorts down past her buttocks, her blouse is up to her neck and she has a hole about the size of a of a silver dollar on the left side of her skull. But between the ear and the skull, right about here. >> And you didn't see any signs of the child, right? >> No, I tried as I was backing out I tried to look around the apartment. I look I did walk into the room looked around the side of the bed and I backed out of the apartment and as I was walking out I tried to look behind the sofa but I didn't want you know, contaminate too much in there. >> Mhm. >> So, I walked right out the door but I didn't see anything. I didn't hear any any any noise coming from the baby. They told me that the that the boyfriend is in the hospital. >> Yeah. Well, we're trying to make contact with him and see what's going on. >> And the neighbor down stairs stated that she heard them yelling and screaming >> Are you Hispanic male? >> Yes. >> Okay. How much do you weigh? >> 165. >> Okay. Thank you, sir. And if you I know you've been advised to stay >> Yeah. >> to stay you can't leave cuz you you were you did witness everything or or just walked in and saw you and the two other people are standing by as well. So, I mean find some shade, try to stay hydrated. If you need anything by all means let us know so we can grab it for you. >> Yeah, I'll call my wife. I live right here so I'll get my wife to bring me the things. >> Yeah, just have her just don't leave the scene. Have her come out and give you whatever you need, okay? All right, thank you so much. All right. >> Thomas was tracked to his mother's house. He had arrived the same night with severe lacerations on both hands and arms. An arrest warrant was issued immediately, but the boy still wasn't with him. >> Hey, how are you? Good, good. Everybody in the back? That's everybody in the back. Thanks. Yeah. >> She's inside. >> Okay. But she's in the back side? >> Go in the back door. >> Okay. Okay, thank you. Hello. Thank you both. Should we start leaving from there? >> Yeah, I just >> I should, right? >> I just don't know if we need to get these people out of the park out of here. >> Hello, we're we're going to start evacuating the park right now. >> Oh, okay. So, we need to >> Yeah, it's going to be it's an active crime scene right now, so >> And I'll pass the word on as I'm going around. >> Please and thank you. Yeah, we're going to start shutting everything down. 6 km southwest of downtown St. Petersburg, officers shot and killed an alligator in a local park found with something in its mouth. It was the body of 2-year-old Tayan Mosley. Autopsy reports revealed Passion had suffered over 100 cuts and stab wounds. Thomas Mosley now faces two first-degree murder charges and remains incarcerated in Pinellas County. [music] His exact sentence is still pending. Moving on to a case where a respected university professor's unopened door led officers to a discovery that would unravel one of the most chilling investigations northern Ohio had ever seen. >> This is a robbery. The house would have been more ransacked, right? They have pretty bad in there. >> There's bolt cutters and no cases in the house all over, but >> Okay. >> no weapons. >> On April 19th, 2023, Hudson police received a call from a woman saying that the father of her daughter was supposed to pick her up from school, but he never showed up. >> I was wondering if I'd be able to request a wellness check on someone. >> Okay, what's going on? >> Um my daughter was supposed to be picked up by her father today. Um and I got a call from the school that she was still at the school, so I ended up picking her up. Um they tried to contact him. Um I tried to call him a couple times and haven't received um anything back. >> And what's his name? >> Todd Morgan. >> The missing man, Todd Morgan, [music] was a well-known professor and a devoted father. It was completely out of character for him to forget to pick up his daughter, and the thought of what could have happened kept running through the woman's mind. >> Has he ever done anything like this? >> Um no. You I don't think he would forget his daughter from school, but we are going through um some custody issues right now, which is why I find it was find it to be a little bit more unusual. >> Uh when you call him, does it go straight to voicemail or does it it ring? [music] >> It rings. >> Realizing the urgency of the situation, officers rushed to Todd's house. By 7:00 p.m., a patrol unit was on scene, where they encountered a truly nauseating sight. >> 2016 Ford, black in color, is Todd Morgan from that address. Validated as a BOLO for a missing >> Is he in the Ford? >> He's not. >> four. >> Okay. You said you see blood. Want some radio? >> What? >> Yeah, go on back. Getting a mess over here. Oh, boy. In an instant, what began as a routine welfare check had escalated into a disturbing crime scene. >> I don't see a weapon. That's why I'm thinking something else. >> At first glance, the scene didn't look like a robbery that had gone wrong. While searching the house, officers found a piggy bank on the floor of a child's room with money scattered everywhere. But as soon as they stepped into the main bedroom, things took an even stranger turn. The bed was completely messy with alcohol bottles left beside [music] it. On the floor, officers found open condom wrappers, suggesting that someone else had been there with Todd earlier. Near the stairs, they discovered another shell casing with the same caliber as the others, but there were still no signs of a weapon. >> We're going to call the detectives out. >> Hey Todd, do you want to Are we Say it's pretty bad in there. Yeah, he is. >> Multiple shell casings in the house all over, but >> Okay. >> No weapon. >> He must have been there for a while. So I'd like for somebody to come out and take a look. Their shell casings are all over the place and just just to figure out exactly what to >> While inspecting the scene, officers found a broken piece of the door frame suggesting the door had been forced open. They also discovered boot prints leading toward the driveway. Prints that didn't [music] match any of the officers footwear. Todd's car was still parked outside and his wallet hadn't been touched. As officers searched the home, they collected every shell casing they could find. [music] They even found several guns all legally registered to Todd, but none of them matched the bullets recovered at the scene. Hoping to piece the puzzle together, investigators turned to the neighbors and what they told police offered a much clearer picture of who Todd was and who might have wanted him gone. >> I saw somebody come out of the house to the car that was next to the Porsche. >> Car was in the driveway? >> They were in the car. I mean it was there. >> No, it was next to the Porsche. >> Okay. >> And and it was there when I woke up this morning at 5:00. You know, as I walked >> The car was already there. >> was already there. The person was do I Yeah, when I woke up. >> Okay. >> But at 7:15, 7:20 I heard and then I saw someone come out of the house go to the car, open up the car, was there for a while and then took something back into the house like a package or a box it looked like. >> Okay. >> And then came back out not running but walking fast. >> Quick pace? >> Yes. >> And what time was that? >> It had to be 7:20. >> At 7:20? [snorts] >> Yeah, that it all happened within a couple minutes. >> what You heard three the three >> The two shots I'm assuming. I don't know. And then I thought someone was banging on something. And then and a little pause and then three more or four more. >> You said can you describe that car? >> I can't really It was a smaller car, light colored, maybe a light blue, light gray. I couldn't get the make of it. >> You have cameras? >> I checked [music] my ring. >> It didn't pick it up. >> It didn't pick it It didn't pick it up. >> Okay. >> It was uh was like a four-door or two-door? >> I >> [music] >> I couldn't tell. >> Our person show >> No, I didn't I mean no, I did not. I did not see the person. >> Okay. Uh my wife thinks there was >> long hair. >> Long >> And I saw somebody come out of the house with long hair to the shoulders. I couldn't even tell you if it was male or female to be honest with you. It looked like a smaller frame, not a big person. Got into a little car. I would think a car champagne color. He said it was bluish. So, there you go for our perspective of of what it was. >> cars The um Todd, from what I know, he's only been here less than a year. He has two children um from different mothers. They're coming and going all the time dropping kids off. >> sure sure. >> And um there's always like a Jeep there from somebody he knows. And I don't know if it's one of the mothers or not, but it's a newer Jeep. This was a car that I'd never seen. >> You never seen that car? >> No. >> But this >> came out like Jean said, grab something from the car. I thought it was more like a package, he thought it was like a box. Again, we weren't putting anything in perspective, it's just what we watched as passing by, and then the person took something back into the house, and then came back out, and then just drove away. And Jean even commented like, "Well, there couldn't have been anything, they're not in a rush." So, >> And the seven the car is there? Okay. >> I don't know how to work this thing. But >> Okay, so that's the car? >> Yeah. I don't figure we're going I [music] want anything from that or whatever. >> Okay. Um, I'll give this back to you. I'll go tell um >> I'm not sure how to >> Yeah. >> And then it's then it jumps to 7:30 and it's gone. >> gone. >> Yeah. >> So, this What time is that right? >> 6:50. >> 6:50. Okay. And then 7:00 is gone. >> Yeah. Well, I The next spot on here is 7:30, so there was a gap. >> Okay. >> it's gone at 7:30. >> Okay. Um Give me 1 second. >> Now, the pieces of the puzzle were finally starting to come together. Officers had both a description and footage clearly showing a car parked beside Todd's SUV. According to one of the neighbors, the vehicle seen was a light-colored car, a vehicle unusual in that area. Hoping to gather even more pieces, investigators decided to speak with Mary Ann, the woman who had first called the police. >> found Todd [music] dead today. So. >> And uh any explanation? >> Uh we're still an on-on-ongoing investigation. We have the detectives looking into it right now. Yeah. >> Did you do an ice over device? >> What's that? >> Um [music] it's to uh he'll breathe into it and it reads whether he's had a drink or not. >> vehicle? >> Uh but just any >> Oh wow, anything at all. Okay. >> Um and the last report I got was from yesterday at 7:00 in the morning. >> You get reports from >> Yeah, we got a >> No kidding. >> a result for that test yesterday. >> Yes, I can pull it up. >> Does it give numbers or just say if it's positive or negative for alcohol? >> Um it does give numbers. >> Okay. >> What's this test called again? >> Ice over device. Thing I can think of that this was well over a year ago, his ex was dating someone that he said felt threatened by her and him ever having to exchange anything in person. >> Okay. >> So, they would meet >> They would meet at like a public park or a common >> [music] >> area. Ex- Is this Is his girlfriend's >> His ex-wife's um >> [music] >> boyfriend. >> His other ex-wife's? >> Mhm. Um and at that time he said he was dating someone. >> Okay. You but you didn't you didn't confirm or or deny that. You don't know. >> I don't know. >> At this point, officers had a compelling lead, a jealous boyfriend angry that his girlfriend had been seeing Todd. The injuries on Todd's body supported the theory. Two shots were fired at close range, all from the same 9 mm handgun. This wasn't a simple dispute, it was personal. Then, detectives uncovered something even more revealing. While retracing Todd's final movements, they discovered a 911 call from his house at 7:21 a.m., almost the exact time neighbors reported hearing shots. The call connected, but no one spoke. Investigators believed it may have been triggered accidentally during the struggle. When investigators traced the number, it led them to Terreona Pascal, and her description perfectly matched what they had. Officers moved quickly to speak with the woman, but when they arrived at the address linked to her, an elderly man answered, and there was no sign of her. >> Hello. What was she What was she in trouble? >> What are you talking about? >> Oh, okay. I I guess you better know. >> Can you tell her to call the Hudson Police Department? >> Hudson? >> Hudson Police Department. Hudson, Ohio. >> Okay. >> What what friend is she staying with at? >> I don't know, man. That is something I mean, she she be she was she's a friend, you know, like a little girlfriend, you know, she younger. You know, I'm I'm a older man, and you know, I'm just If he is upstairs in the bed, y'all y'all want to walk through my dog house? Ain't no ain't no Terreona in here. >> Terreona, she's she's What's that? She's one of her girlfriends in Garden Valley. >> mailed to your house? >> Yeah, how far how far is that from here? I mean, we could follow you over there. >> Although Terreona was no longer at that house, detectives had something just as valuable, her phone. By tracking it, they were able to follow her movements step by step, and that's when the picture sharpened. In the minutes following the accidental 911 call, Terreona was already speeding down the interstate fleeing the scene. As she drove, Todd's phone moved with her. Her silver Ford Taurus X, the same vehicle caught on a neighbor's camera, was soon located near her sister's apartment. From there, investigators brought Terionna in for questioning, and it was then that she realized her carefully crafted plan had finally unraveled. >> I'll be back here in about 5 minutes, okay? >> Okay. >> Okay, [clears throat] you need anything? You okay? >> Yeah. >> Okay. I'll be right back. >> Okay. >> You were at 911 >> Um I don't know who I called. >> Okay. Um who did you call 911 back? >> I don't know what you're talking about. >> Okay. If you can't call 911 >> Um >> Okay. >> She kept >> Um why would it dial 911 on April 19th? The morning of April 19th around 7:30 in the morning. >> My [snorts] phone? >> Yeah. >> I don't know. I don't know. >> Okay. >> Um I don't know if my phone would call. I didn't call nobody. >> You called 911. >> No, I did not. >> Okay. >> I don't know how you got that number. I didn't call. >> Yeah. Yeah, we got your phone number. Um we attempted to call back that morning. We didn't get an answer. >> Terionna >> Here's something Here's what's interesting about these these two photos. Okay, these two photos were actually um on your phone. >> On my phone? >> Mhm. >> Well, they were on my phone. >> You actually typed in any search um for this guy. And you viewed this image on your phone. >> Um >> You also did a search for 321 Spruce Street and you viewed this image on your phone. >> Um I don't >> All right, I'll give you I'll give you an opportunity here to to talk to us to let me know what happened. >> Okay, and I'm telling you I don't know going on, but what do you have? I don't know what's going on. >> She's Tariyana was now trapped in a tightening box of evidence. On the day Todd died, he had sent her $50, followed shortly by an attempted $1,000 payment. Her DNA was found on a cigar in Todd's bedroom and on the condoms as well. Another major piece of evidence stacked against her. Tariyana and Todd had first met on Bumble and their conversations had continued through text messages. The digital trail was undeniable, but there was more. Investigators uncovered a connection to another case. The 9-mm cartridge used to Todd matched one used in an unsolved 2021 in which her ex-boyfriend had been At the time, officers hadn't had enough evidence to make an arrest. Now, everything had changed. >> Todd, a lot of information. We have We have a We have Bumble chat messages. Okay, we have shell casings. We have um shoe prints. We We have a lot of stuff that um is a lot of evidence there, okay? Mhm. This is your opportunity to to talk to us about it, okay? >> I really don't know what you want me to say. I'm >> We We want to know what happened. We want to know what happened. We have a lot of questions. We want to know what happened. Um Todd Morgan sent you $50 this morning. A few minutes later, >> I don't know >> Okay, but he did. So, what What I want to ask you is there was another payment about 20 20 minutes later, there was a $1,000 payment that was sent from um Todd Morgan to Black Beauty. And you You referred to Black Black Beauty as this Cash App as you. That's you, obviously, in that picture. Um so, he sent you $1,000. Now, we go back to the $50 payment. You say guys send you random $50 every now and then. Okay. You guys sent you random $1,000 payment? >> No. >> Okay, so >> Well, it could happen. >> It could happen. >> It could happen. >> Okay. [music] She arrived at the vehicle on April 19th. We have We have this cash app payment, right? It went through for $50. We have another cash app payment that was 20 23 minutes later for $1,000. We have this vehicle leaving on Morgan's house at around 7:23 in the morning on April 19th. Um You said that's your car. >> Mhm. >> Uh have your phone um at 3:28 West Ridge Bowl Street on April 19th at 7:00 in the morning. And she had your phone at that address after midnight on April 19th, which looks like the which is there overnight. >> And then you had a bunch of them. >> It's not possible. Your DNA is inside of that house. Black gloves are inside of that house. Tire footprints that are inside that house that match shoes that that you're wearing in Facebook photos. >> Although Terionna didn't admit to the crime, the evidence against her was undeniable. She was taken to trial where, in a shocking turn, she suddenly changed her stance. >> Yes, to his family, um I'm very sorry, and I hope that one day that you can find it in your hearts to forgive me. That's it. >> You two a period of 20 years to life on count one, aggravated murder and unclassified felony. In addition, that sentence will run consecutive to the 3-year firearm specification, which is attached to that count one. That firearm specification 3-year sentence must be served first. It must be consecutive, and it is in fact mandatory. This will make you eligible for parole, which there's no guarantee of that, [music] at the earliest of 23 years, but you could serve up to life in prison for this matter. Do you understand all of that, Ms. Pacha? >> Yes, your honor. >> So, in the end, Teriana pleaded guilty to aggravated and was sentenced to 23 years to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 23 years. Next, [music] a case where a mother drove over 2,000 miles across the country with her children, and what officers uncovered when she finally stopped left everyone on that [music] scene completely sick to their stomachs. >> Gabe. >> OH, GOD DAMN IT. OF COURSE YOU TELL HER HERE RIGHT NOW. >> I JUST THINK OF THREE KIDS TRYING to survive. >> [music] >> On October 29th, 2024, officers responded to a welfare check after reports of children left alone in unfit conditions. Upon arrival, they tried to contact the mother, 40-year-old Selina Gallegos, and assess the children's safety. >> Hi. >> Hi, how are you? >> What are you on? >> We got a call to just come check up on you. Is your mom home? >> I'm home. Who called you? >> Just a concerned citizen. Hi. Is your mom home? Not home? Okay. >> I can call her. >> Okay. Yeah. Do you have a phone number for her? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Give us a minute to call our friend. And if you hear cuz you're trying to keep my brother in here. >> No, no, no, no. We just came to do um just to check on you guys. Do you have her phone number? Would it be okay if I call her? Hi, this is Officer Bonnie from Simpson Police Department. I'm trying to get a hold of Selina. >> Oh, she's right here. >> Hello. >> Hi, is this Selena? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Hey, we're actually here at your residence right now. We're planning on doing a welfare check right here. Are you anywhere near? >> Not at the moment. She's at work. >> You're at work? Okay, well, we do need you here. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay, we'll be waiting, okay? >> Okay. [music] >> Thank you. Bye-bye. >> How was school today? >> It was good. You go to FHS? >> Yeah. I was at my mom's chance to like a fair working friend. >> Yeah? >> Guess what? Reminds me of me talking to that versus sports mom. I was like, "Well, stalker mom." So, I don't know if she dressed up like a soccer player or can be like a barbecue. >> Oh. >> Nice. >> Yeah. >> Do you know how long it'll be before your mom gets home? >> Normally, she hangs out with her boyfriend at work. >> Oh. >> But, I don't know how long she's going to be like I don't know how long it will take her to call. I don't know, maybe like half an hour, maybe like maybe like 45, [music] 55 like >> While they waited for the mom to arrive, officers noticed the children outside, dirty and unaccompanied. Their initial conversations with the kids revealed clear signs of fear and uncertainty. >> Well, we'll go wait for your mom to get here, guys, okay? So, just so you guys are aware. >> Yeah, I'm aware. >> You guys aren't in trouble. We're just making sure you guys are okay. >> Yeah, we're all right. >> Where's your shoes at? Your feet's going to get cold, man. >> Eh, it's all right. I mean, it's not it's not usual I find myself a hobby. >> Yeah? >> I find myself a hobby with this. >> Where's your shoes at? >> You know what I'm saying? >> You know what I do with this? >> Gabe! >> Don't let it touch my face. >> Let's not. >> Sometimes it lands on >> Sometimes it lands. >> Let's not let's not do that, okay? Cuz I don't want you hurt. >> What if What if you throw it and you hit you hit somebody over there? That's not a good idea, okay? >> Oh, don't worry, Bonnie. Don't Don't worry. It's all right. I'm very I'm very careful with it. >> Just so you know. >> I know. I'm not saying you aren't. I'm just I just >> Hey, but me and Mason are like this. You know what I'm saying? >> Hey, but me and Mason are like pick that way. >> Yeah, it's not safe. You know what I'm saying? >> Here's Mason and you. I got like half of you. >> Come on, Gabe. Look how much cool you stopped in your life. >> I mean, look I mean, you see this? This was me nice though. This was just from me nice though. All that, you see? All those freaking cracks and that and hey, even this thing right here, I freaking I think I ripped off a piece of the Let's go. >> Hi. Oh, you're property manager? >> Yes, yes. >> Okay. We're just doing a welfare check. We're waiting on mom. So, we'll be here for a little while. Okay. Hey, Chris, doing okay? >> OH, GOD DAMN IT. OF COURSE YOU DO. I HEAR YOU RIGHT NOW. >> HE DIDN'T LIKE THAT. >> DO YOU HAVE ANY FAMILY HERE, PAL? Do you have a pulse or >> Not really. I have a sister though. >> I mean, it's mainly just mom. Oh, do you not have any other pulses or aunties? Nah. >> Where's your socks? It's cold. At least you got a jacket. >> Eh, that's mother's. >> Let me see that. >> Eh, that's mother's. >> Thank you, ma'am. Hi. Okay. >> Hey. It's only about uh yeah. >> It's okay. Are you talking to me or her? Me or Gordon. >> I I was I was talking about her and she got I don't know. I just I just don't like you when family's going to always yell at you. >> Oh. >> The reason why I got mad about here is because I just don't want them to get mad and come >> Well, Chris, we're just checking on you, okay? To make sure everything's all right. So, we're not here to make any trouble or get you in trouble, okay? >> The mother, Selina, arrived after some delay, visibly panicked and concerned. The officers began questioning her about the situation. >> Good afternoon. >> I'm just working. >> Yeah. May I have you keep your hands out of your pockets, sir? Thank you. >> I'm not being investigated, so why you why are you asking me? >> I'm not. I just asked you to keep your hands out of your pocket, sir. >> I don't want to get involved in this car. >> Spreading all kinds of bad juju. Thing to this person. What she said? What What was it? She Well, she's kind of his sister. They grew up together when they were little kids. Her Her dad used to date his mom. And thing to this person I barely talked to. He already told me that she was talking to him earlier about saying all kinds of saying all kinds of things to him. And I was at work at the mess. Me and her I don't get along, but I haven't done anything to her. And I think she's she's making it personal what she's doing. a very Uh as far as living conditions is going, then Meaning the house is a mess. So Yeah, I think puppies and dogs passed away and and dog being supposed to have What Whatever. I don't This is just what I'm getting from this person. Okay. I don't I mean, I do have I do have four dogs. And I do have four puppies. But So So in in the city you can only have four dogs. Okay, so I'm just letting you know that. Okay. Do I have to get rid of two dogs or can I just get rid of the puppies? That's all I'm waiting for. Soon as they're old enough. But that's still a couple of weeks. Right. No. And that that's something I [music] have to talk to him. I don't know how to be honest with you. And I know I spoke to you before, but what what's your schedule like as far as the pets? Like walk me through I to work at Target in the I'm going every morning. >> Tuesday, Saturday, and Sunday >> What's your >> 2:30 I come home. >> I go get >> from Melissa. I wait for the bus >> And >> I go get them dinner. >> She asked if I would stop by or the lady I'm doing the house for. >> I just want to give you a chicken for the day. He's good. It's like side project for her. >> He said >> Not often. >> Maybe for a few minutes to run to Family Dollar cuz I don't have a vehicle at the moment. >> But >> I don't know what you're talking about. >> Cuz we've gotten multiple reports that you're leaving them home >> I don't understand. >> Okay, there's just been multiple witnesses that you don't come home until the mornings to let them school and take them to school. And I already know that this is true as far as your oldest going to RVs and maintenance of them. >> I finally got that one. >> And and [music] we've had this discussion with her over the As far as today goes, I had to contact CYS [music] to figure out what's going on with the policy so they are in jail. I don't know yet. I I got to speak with CYS. I got to figure out what's going on. >> Selena admitted she was struggling to manage the household's condition and was visibly upset and apologetic. >> I didn't do anything. >> But it's concerning because we've had multiple calls >> I think the first one was But when when random people are calling and neighbors and stuff, but it's anonymous calls. We don't know who called. >> It's not anonymous. >> So we don't know, but we're getting multiple reports from different people, which is a concern. Okay, I have been to this house multiple times >> I'm still here for child for child >> Okay? >> Chris Chris keeps running away. >> Right, and you're leaving your children unattended and leaving your 11-year-old to watch them. >> I'm not going anywhere. >> It doesn't It doesn't matter. Your kids are home. >> I don't know where they're going. >> Right, it took you almost 45 minutes to get here. And how long were you How long were you gone? Go up there and check and see if he's in there and come back. If she's not she's not at the house right And how far out is that? I had said But her king was at the house. So I know it is. All right, I have No, but I asked you to be responsible here. Responsible, ma'am? I think that's Whatever your opinion is Okay, I was responsible I did it. Okay, we do need to do a walk through to the house to make sure that there's I don't know if there's any living spaces and living quarters in the house. Okay, where do you all the children stay? Where does Caleb sleep? Most times most of the time in the garage. Okay, and what about Pedro? He will have his room. Chrisfer has a room. What about the other What's up there? Um, I've been fixing it up. It's not ready right now. There's no power. There's Is there a stand in there? He was in there to be alone, was he? Him and his brother don't get along very well sometimes. So he goes in there to be alone. Okay, and my next concern You know, when we get here obviously Chrisfer is upset because we're here. And that's fine. There's no more fault in him. Very good. He has an array of knives that he somehow I I I don't know. He had a knife with a rope on it. So he had a knife with like a rope on it and he's swinging it around and throwing it against the fence. So I told you you can So that's That's That's why I need to >> [music] >> I understand. I caught him with that thing the other day. I threw it away and he went and found it. So take it somewhere else or throw it away. I don't know. But he's out here unattended spinning that around. There's other children here to play. On top of that, we pulled a fixed blade that's about this long from Okay, like do you understand my concern at this point? >> On the trampoline, ma'am, where the kids play. >> Do you have a guess? You're going to watch me? >> Nobody even really even knows what I'm going through. Nobody Nobody calls me. Nobody talks to me. Nobody says hi. But, I leave my kids alone for more than 5 minutes and I've got SWAT team up all over the neighborhood. I have nothing anybody here. I'm just a single mother of three kids trying to survive. >> As the questioning continued, Selena shifted into a victim stance, lashing out at the neighbors who had called the police rather than taking full responsibility for the situation. >> Do you need help with anything? >> I don't have anybody for that. They offer all that. C Y D already talked to me about that multiple 200 times. >> And have you tried to get any help with that? >> I know about the whole medications and appointments and they want me to classes and all this other stuff and >> Okay, have you Have you accepted any of that or is there any type of plan there? >> them my new number, but it's out of service right now. So, the only way you can reach me is here at the house or maybe at work. >> Whose phone is your daughter? >> It's my phone and like you can still call, but like I I don't have any data or anything like that. Sometimes she gets the call, sometimes she doesn't. >> Okay, cuz she called you perfectly fine. >> That's why she's probably using That's why my phone says it's over minutes. Cuz it only [music] gets 5 gigs and they said I've got like It's over my limit. So, >> [music] >> I mean >> She was able to make phone calls, right? >> No, I >> It's a lot of excuses that I'm getting, okay, and not a lot of accountability. At this point. Okay, so game plan for today? >> I can never leave my house again. No. >> Well, we'll until you see what happens to you Selina, okay? We're going to do visit inside, okay? They're probably going to talk to you. They're probably going to check the kiddos. As far as I go, they're doing their best, for sure. Okay? >> People don't even know what's going on. They just see Selina. They don't see me here. They're just nosy. They have no idea what's going on with me right now. >> Mhm. >> Yes. And this is all just a bunch of added drama that's way too unnecessary and it doesn't make any I don't have anybody. I have no parents, no family. I have nobody around here. >> Is my mom going to jail? >> No, she's fine. Did she take a shower, Chris? >> Yes, I did. >> Okay. You can go inside if you're I don't know if you stand out here with your hair wet. You're cold. >> Yeah, your mom >> Your mom's fine. >> Okay, but what did mom tell tell you? >> That was That's more of an adult conversation, Chris. So, we're going to wait till mom comes back out, okay? Can you maybe get mom for us? >> Is she inside? >> Do you want mom out? >> Yeah, can we talk to her again? >> Mom will get pissed off. >> No, we won't. Nobody's mad. Nobody's mad, Chris. You're fine. >> See, I told you. Mom hates it when you're here. >> And plus, it's cold out. You know, we don't want you to get sick. Your hair's all wet. >> I'm sorry. I can't. I just can't. >> As Selina faced the reality of the situation, officers began a thorough inspection of the home's hazardous conditions. >> Oh, oh, don't let the dogs get out. >> Oh, sorry. >> Man, this is a workout. >> Can you go get your mom, please? >> She's really freaking out right now. >> Okay, tell her we need her at the door right now. >> And the thing is she's mad at me cuz of my freaking rope spear thing. >> You're not trouble. You're not Yeah, you're trouble. >> Did you get your mom? >> Ooh. She's coming right now. Can you guys come in? >> Okay, thank you. So, as far as You said Where does everyone sleep? >> Well, Selina has her own room. >> to mostly we sleep in here cuz we don't have the internet at the moment so we watch movies. >> Yeah, but the only the only it's not working. >> SKATE. SKATE. DO I HAVE TO TAKE YOU OR CAN you guys You want to sleep I'll just let you guys stay. I'm sorry watch your Yeah, there's You want to walk around? You want to chew on anything? It's in the process of cleaning but it's Yeah, go do what you got to do. IT'S OKAY, MAN. CAN I TALK TO EACH of your kids by themselves? Maybe just go outside. >> Yeah, that's fine. I didn't want anything. Watch yourself. Orange is at the bottom. >> You're only sleeping in here? You can hang out? >> Yeah, I mostly sleep here. >> Okay. Do you watch TV in here sometimes? >> That's 241 Oreos. >> Yeah. If there's internet here I could but for right now there's no internet. >> No, okay. Can I look back there? Or is that a bathroom? What is that? >> Yeah, sorry but that one's off limits. It's the bathroom but you don't want to look in there. >> All right, I won't look in there. All right. Well, cool. Nice hanging out. I appreciate it. >> Okay, I'll I'll go get my stuff. I'll go over you guys. I just need to go and get my stuff. >> it, Chris. Thank you. >> Got my stuff packed in. >> Okay. >> All done. >> Hey, I'm ready. >> Are Gabe and Kaelen in the quiet? That's it. >> Not yet. They're getting their stuff. Yeah, they're getting their stuff. >> Despite the terrible conditions, officers stayed calm and focused on keeping the children safe and comfortable. For Selena, however, things quickly took a serious turn as the evidence of neglect left little doubt about her failure as a parent, prompting officers to take action. >> Yes, are you staying? >> Oh, we're having So, you're just having to stay tonight with you guys? >> Yep, you're going to stay in that over here. So, let's grab your bag and you can put it in your brother's in the car already, okay? >> Yep, [snorts] and the thing is, will we be back home tomorrow? >> Um, just depends, okay? Possibly. >> That's possible. >> Yeah. >> Possible? >> Yeah. >> And then cuz I need to get my mom myself. >> That's okay. >> I know. >> Okay, that's stuff for the night. That's okay. >> We'll be okay, you guys. Give me just a second. >> By the time we come back, guys, the thing is, if we have to get a ticket to a foster home, we need to get back back so I can take the suitcase and everything else with me. >> That's okay. We're going to worry about Yeah, we'll worry about tonight. As long as you have stuff for the evening, we'll be good to go, okay? >> Yeah. Yep, and >> Okay. >> I'm scared they're taking me off to do what? I'm in trouble. [laughter] >> Yeah, you guys are not in trouble. >> Yep, I just hope Yeah, I just hope we'll be able to actually come back home. >> Yeah. >> Okay, then that's forever. >> And actually making it to school. >> Oh, yeah, you guys will go to school. >> So embarrassing. >> Yeah. And that's just say And let's say it's actually this week. So, I hope you have an apron over at school or something because I want to do a lot of fun things. It's like on Wednesday, there's like a three-way going on at my school. On Wednesday, it's like barbecue day versus soccer mom. And I don't know if I'm like a soccer player or like a or like like a dad sort of like barbecue. I want to do that. So, yeah, I need mom like an apron or something. >> Perfect. >> okay. Wednesday, what we got? Yeah, like I don't care if it's like a green apron, a blue apron, a black apron. >> Just an apron. >> Just an Just like any apron. Just any apron. I just like I just hope we can get these dogs taken care of. >> Yeah. Yeah, we're going to take care of it. Well, let's get you in the vehicle. It's cold. I think your brother's already ready to go. >> Brother? >> Yep, he's already go. >> Is mom going to step out? >> Yeah, she's looking for a jacket for him. >> Oh, perfect. >> All right, Selena, I'm going to put your hands behind your back. All right, you're under arrest right now. It's going to be for child neglect. Okay. >> We're up the clients to tell for the dogs. >> It doesn't mean that they're going to just like you said call. So, we still hold they'll be a hold to say that you're >> certain for the dogs to >> Okay. Can you let go of your feet your fingers? I need to adjust these cuffs. Watch your head. You can go to the right right here. Face the wall. >> Selena was charged with three counts of abandonment. Next, a case in which a routine wellness check on [music] three children left officers completely unprepared for what awaited behind that front door. >> I don't know if she's breathing or not. Looks like >> I got >> I'm just letting you know what the deal is. Just just so you know. I am I am okay. >> So, does it sound like mom? What do you mean "doesn't it"? >> On January 13th, 2024, [music] officers in New Mexico received a call reporting that a child had marks suggesting harm. What they were about to uncover would reveal such an absurd level of disregard that it would leave even seasoned professionals unsettled. >> There's nobody >> Okay, I was saying the little girl. >> Oh. >> She's unresponsive. >> Okay. >> Yeah, yeah. I'm in too. >> Is mom here? >> She's in the bedroom. >> Oh, she's down there. Okay, I'll go keep an eye on her. >> Yeah, go ahead. >> I went out there, mom was checking in and she had two of the kids with her. One of them was sitting in the car seat. One another older daughter that was walking around and she had this one. She's holding it wrapped up like this. Mom said she's just really weak. And then I tried to get a weight on her. So, I brought her over and I was like, "Do you think she'll stand?" She's like, "No, she's just really weak." So, I was like, "Can you hand her to me?" She's like, "No." And I pulled back the blanket and looked at her and she was cold. So, I was like, "Let's go back to her room." Went back to her room, put her on the bed, she was unresponsive. So, we grabbed her, brought her back here. Covered her with a blanket. marks or I mean Is there any goals? >> Is she closed still or >> She She had a diaper on. She was a baby. >> Okay. Her diaper and blanket. >> She's got bruises on her neck. She's got bruises on her back and her butt, too. Looks like >> Okay. >> You haven't gotten her information yet or anything? We literally pulled the receipt, came in here, asked the clerk to make sure that the mom didn't leave. >> I just want to make sure she can't sneak out while we're away. So, she can't push the door open? >> No, she can't. >> Okay. >> Was it Lily? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Lily Santos. >> Her date of birth is 20? >> Yesterday. >> Okay. >> I was told that they were on her cheek. She was fidgeting like she was playing outside all day. >> Okay. >> I know. After receiving a brief explanation from medical staff about the condition the little girl, Lily Santos, had been in upon arrival, officers approached the mother, Carrie, inside the hospital. She was visibly distraught, although unaware that her daughter had already passed away. >> Hello. I'm Officer Garrett. >> Thank you. >> She is a police officer, and so we're going to do a little bit of investigation. Do you have an ID with you by any chance? Do you know if she's by chance a patient? >> Um there there were >> Okay. Are you from North Carolina? >> Yeah. >> Do you have any Mexico address? >> No. >> No? Okay. >> I'm from North Carolina. >> Uh-huh. >> She had a different location than what she told >> Okay. >> I thought I was supposed to talk to somebody else. >> Uh-huh. Okay. >> And then we've been trying to like drive >> Where is your final destination, I guess? >> I was going to just get here and then I was going to try to get a hotel for the night. I was going to call churches or somebody to see if they could help too. Get help to get a place. >> What led us to here tonight? >> Uh she was really sick. >> Okay. >> And then she just wouldn't eat for the night. Couldn't take like a nap last night or whatever. Then we woke up and she's We weren't far, but I was too tired. Okay. I just couldn't get her to move. >> Where were you at before you came here? >> Massachusetts. Hey, let's say right now it's Friday night. So, Friday afternoon or maybe late Thursday night is when you left Massachusetts? >> Yeah. >> Okay. How long has she been sick for? >> A couple days. >> And since in the past couple days has she fallen? >> It's been three weeks and yeah. >> From like where? >> Like off of a toilet. You know what's going on? I just want somebody. >> Well, so this is just part of our investigation. Like I said, usually when children arrive in the hospital and she does have some bruises, we just start an investigation. >> Hi, you need anything? Has she Has she noticed anything? >> Oh, I don't think so. >> I know I wrapped her. I wrapped her in that blanket >> Uh-huh. >> to keep her warm. >> Yeah. Did you notice she was getting cold? >> Yes, she was cold. >> Okay. >> She's been shivering. >> Uh-huh. >> I guess it's just a fever, but >> Have they been victim to any of the domestic violence back in North Carolina? >> Yeah, but she's saying her dad >> Okay. They just witnessed it that they haven't >> She wasn't born. >> Oh, okay. Cute little eyes. Yeah. >> And I would never >> Yeah. >> Cuz I left North Carolina and went up to Mass >> Uh-huh. >> just to stay with family and then I just I couldn't do it because I felt like I was unwelcome. >> Uh-huh. >> I want to be on my own. >> Uh-huh. >> And I just want to start fresh with my kid and not see me get abused by family. >> Being hurt. >> He only hit me on the side of the head. >> Okay. Was there any sort of abuse from your family? >> Just verbal. >> What's his name? Do you mind if I >> Josh. >> And is he the guy that you were trying to get away from? >> He's verbal. >> Okay. Give me a couple minutes and I'll let them do what they can do and then we'll keep you updated, okay? >> As officers began asking questions about what had happened, certain details quickly became difficult to reconcile. The timeline didn't sit right and neither did the explanation for the child's injuries. With the medical staff's account still fresh in mind, her words were already raising quiet concerns. >> Are you going to check the other two kids in for just a medical evaluation? Not safe to go home. >> Yeah, I know we >> Okay. >> Well, we'll we'll certainly be having detectives come out and stuff. We're just >> very >> beginning beginning stages, but yeah. >> Okay. >> Same thing with the crazy part there. >> So, it sounds like she's trying to escape a domestic violence situation. I don't know if she had just been driving driving and driving and driving. And it's a Chevrolet. So, that's why she drove so crazy. >> Did you look in the car? >> It is surprisingly clean. What's like they drove across the country so many times. There's nothing, no dirt, no food, no crumbs, nothing in the front seat or the back seat. There's a small pile of clothes in the trunk. >> So, Carrie, we just have a couple questions for you separately. Could we speak to you for a moment down there? Well, my officer will stay with you. He'll stay here with you. Almost followed you. >> Okay. You want to say hi? You want a popsicle? What popsicle is what color do you want? >> I want a purple one. >> Purple one? Let me get you a purple one. >> I think there's candy. >> Could I check a couple things? Can I just see your tummy? >> I don't think she's going to say anything. >> No? >> Okay. >> How about your legs? Do your legs feel okay? Do they not hurt at all? How about your arms? Do they hurt anywhere? >> No. >> Hospital staff is just going to try to get those kids admitted before they like let her know what's going on. The inconsistencies combined with the circumstances surrounding their arrival prompted officers to take additional precautions. At some point during the process, Carrie was informed that her daughter had not survived. >> And she I mean, you know, like She was weird about it. She cried a little bit, but the same I could have happened. With the happened no yeah I'm definitely not the one to ask what time is that but it takes a little while to drop the temperature that low >> impact on her neck >> go into the room >> I saw a lot of bruising on her brain there's some scratches on her face her lips there's abrasions I think it might be just like if she was coughing up blood maybe something yeah it didn't seem like neglect at all the scratches look pretty scabbed over with the blood I would have to imagine it's pretty fresh but there's like covering the inside of her lip there's an older foreign scar on her inner hip >> underneath the diaper >> it looks like it's on her wrists and her >> it >> if you look at the linear they especially look >> look like she was restrained yeah >> I said they tried CPR for like 10 minutes but the doctor pretty much told me he said we knew she was her pupils were already fixed and dilated >> I mean this is just what we see too >> okay let's wait for the detectives cuz I think I've seen enough >> okay >> well that is yeah I've seen enough >> I'm sorry my name is Miranda this is Chris is it okay if I sit and talk to you a little bit while we wait for the chaplain >> due to the positioning of the body cams the beginning of the interrogation is difficult to hear still Carrie recounts the abusive relationship where she was threatened with and therefore went to Massachusetts to live with her family where she [music] suffered verbal mistreatment >> always yelling at me for something that wasn't helping me. Wasn't doing this or it wasn't providing enough food or I just thought I'll just take care of the other two. Wasn't me. Wasn't what I was supposed to do. I just couldn't do it. I just wanted to send her somewhere different. I wish I was better. Trying to get her to eat. >> Did she say anything to you then when you were carrying her out? Was she awake? >> I seen her eyes open. Was she moving? No. She never woke up. I can't say it was an accident. She was just too sick and it got worse. I was stopping it. I didn't want it to happen. I didn't think this would kill her. I thought it would help her. I wasn't trying to kill her. It was worse. >> I don't really imagine what you're going through, sweetie. Do you know what your other kids are doing? >> They don't know about it. >> Do you have any history with like child protective services or anything like that? >> In North Carolina we did. They dismissed it. The lady said it was a living hug. >> It's a bug. It's a public trust. >> If somebody was smoking stuff or anything and they they dismissed it because there was nothing there. >> All right. I'm talking to her. >> This is Carrie. I'm Carrie. >> I'm so sorry for your loss. >> I just want to see her. Say our goodbyes to her. I just want to hold her. There's no one close to her. >> I will definitely do the best we can to honor your request. But for right now we just have to kind of just wait a little bit longer. >> I'm going to put this out there. Just just so you know. I ain't I ain't going to get up. But family don't think so, but I do. I want my children. I want my children. Family doesn't like it at all. I do not have much assistance or anything. I am able. I do have the patience. I don't want that. Is this a fair hearing? >> We don't dictate how or where your children go. >> So they're going to be taken away from me? >> No one said that. We just have to figure out what's going on. Okay? >> During the interrogation, Carrie appeared visibly shaken, at times struggling to maintain her composure. Yet outside the room, other officers raised questions about how someone could travel across the country without any communication or a clear sense of direction. >> She has a cell phone or computer, laptop, or computer. That's her only way of communicating with anyone in the last station that she was being held in was here. Was she Was she on the phone? >> Not that I know of. Did you guys talk to her last night? >> Yeah. >> So did it sound like mom? What do you think she is? >> The other kids are like So when are they going to help me get clothes, right? >> Yeah, they'll they'll help you get clothes, food, things like that. >> My kids are doing okay. >> Oh yeah, they're they're doing okay. How are you doing? Good? >> I am good. She likes to watch >> So it's the pilot that she watches? >> It's the two of my family and friends. >> It's not a good situation. I'll give this to you to hold. >> Thank you. >> Yeah, I do enjoy it. Um some days are are definitely harder than others, but Not Not Um I'm really sorry you're going through this. >> Worthless piece of [ __ ] with a charger. >> Yeah, that'd be good. Get the uh And the phone's in the box, so you have that on you? >> It's in the box. >> Okay, okay. Have you ever been to New Mexico before? >> Seems like today was his first day for everything. >> Yeah. That's for sure. >> I don't know if I lost the key. And then we drove him to pick Lily up. >> Mhm. >> Do you know what time she passed? >> I don't. I'm not sure. >> Cuz I didn't. >> I'm Detective Herrera. My name's Walter. I'm with the Albuquerque Police Department. >> At least she lived with my grandma. Grandma will take care of her. >> I know it's going to be hard, but try to get some sleep. I think that's going to be the best thing for you. >> All right, you take care. Call us if you need us, okay? >> Shortly after arriving at the hotel, Keri was arrested. As detectives continued digging, a more disturbing picture began to emerge. In a forensic interview that has not been publicly released, her eldest daughter described living with other adults, and the specific details she provided coincided with evidence found on the victim's body to suggest that the three children were subjected to inappropriate conduct. Keri eventually admitted that she had not been truthful with detectives. Months earlier, she had been forced out by family and had moved in with a woman named Christina Pinacenter and her son, Austin Bing. How they met remains unclear. Just one week before Lily's death, they relocated again, this time to New Mexico, where Christina's boyfriend, James Welch, was also living. According to statements later obtained by investigators, it was there that the cruelty escalated. Keri described Lily being restrained with shoelaces, while her older daughter said their mother only watched. Keri claimed she argued about taking Lily to the hospital and was allowed to go only if she stayed silent. That same night, officers moved in to arrest the remaining adults connected to the case. >> Police Department. Police Department, open the door. James? >> Yes. >> Welch? >> Yes. >> Step out, please. >> Who else is inside? >> Christina? >> Yes. >> Step out. Turn around, please. Face me. I'll bring you your team prayer. >> I don't know. >> We'll explain everything to you in a moment. Who else is inside? Nobody? If we find somebody inside and you turn out to be lying, >> Can I lock my doors? >> Uh, not yet. No, I'm sorry. >> Austin, they already know you're here. Come out. >> Put your hands up. Get your hands out of your pocket. >> Is that all right? >> Step out and face away. >> Can I just grab my shoes? >> All right. >> No. >> Step out. Face away. >> Yeah. What's going on? >> Face away from me. >> Yeah. >> Put your hands behind your head. >> Shouldn't have been in there. >> Is there anybody >> Yeah. >> No one else is inside? >> No, no. >> We have three individuals uh detained. We're going to make an announcement to the 20 and McLaren and try and see if nobody else is inside. >> Albuquerque Police Department, you're not free to leave. You're inside, make your presence known. Come to the sound of my voice. Your hands up and empty. Do it now. >> There is. Oh, it's just the dog. >> Do you wish to take a seat for the time being, 20 sign? >> Don't say anything to each other. >> Yes. >> All right. Thank you, sir. Have a good walk. If you want to take a seat in the little uh something like that, you can be sure. >> The ones that beat her own kids and put marks on her arms and A wild child like Be good, Austin. I love you, James. >> This way. >> Yeah. I'll be sitting here. >> This is frustrating. This is like this has nothing to do with us. It has nothing to do with our kids. Look, I know the situation, but it's just the point that how can we get charged with something that has something to do with their mother? >> After being arrested, the adults were taken in for interrogation before being transferred to prison. However, when faced with the charges, it became clear that accountability would not come without resistance. >> So, when do we go to court? >> I am not sure. >> Are we supposed to get summoned or something? >> So, the detectives wrote a warrant for your arrest. So, right now, that's why you're under arrest. >> For the child abuse? >> Your exact charges as they are on the warrant is child abuse resulting in and child abuse times two. >> That resulted in Oh my god, what's happened to the mother? >> I'm not sure. She was with the detectives before I came in this evening. >> She's the reason for all of this. >> And I don't I I've done none of the investigation, ma'am. Okay. >> I'm just saying this I want to see that smart I did. I didn't report it. I'm sick. She talked Should get charged with the same thing as we are? >> I wasn't here when she was booked and charged. >> Yeah, so it's probably just a warrant and it's for child abuse. >> Okay. That's all I wanted to know. >> So, do you have you and Christina? >> Yes. >> Um probably just one of the charges. >> How did they come up with the counts? >> Those are additional charges. >> They charged child abuse by >> Who is? >> I am. >> Then we both are. >> Yeah, me and him both. >> Yeah, me and >> Crazy. That We don't have kids this time either and I'm getting charged with >> Just listen to >> I'm sorry. I'm sorry. >> I'm really sorry. >> We were trying to get diapers. >> I feel lost. >> I feel lost. >> That's all you can do is find your >> Yeah. >> What? >> I'm good. I'll stand I said to my family >> No problem, sir. >> I know. I hopefully you don't cuz I kiss everybody at home. And no, I wouldn't care if they were to charge me with something I did. That's the thing. I've done almost 16 years with a clean >> [music] >> Their frustration was evident. They maintained their stance, repeatedly insisting they should not be held responsible for what they claimed was solely the mother's doing. Upon the prisoners arrival at the penitentiary, other police officers discovered the case and were visibly affected by what they were beginning to understand. In the end, all four adults were charged with resulting in and multiple additional counts. All pleaded not guilty and the case is currently awaiting further court proceedings. [music]
