Get outside. >> This is my house. >> It's not your house. >> Yes, it is. Hey, let me in. You back up. Hey. Stop. Oh, hey. Take her to the play. >> Some people think they can walk into homes and treat them like their own, but what happens when police arrive and reality hits hard. >> I'm not going to play these games. >> Hey, sit down. >> Will you shut up for a minute and we'll deal with all this? You're being uncooperative. One of my guys got injured. Shut up. >> Get out of my house now. >> That's not happening. >> Get out of my house now. >> Okay, you're under arrest. >> No, I'm not. I ain't getting out. I ain't I ain't been evicted. The state of Ohio has a law that, bud. I ain't been to court. I ain't been evicted. You can't throw my [ __ ] out. [music] I'm a resident there, bud. >> These were the moments when serial squatters thought laws didn't apply to them, but it backfired. Starting with this squatter who wouldn't vacate without [music] getting back the rent she never paid. >> Me and my girlfriend owns the house, so I don't know what you need to take up with the police. Well, whatever the case may be. >> I own the house, [music] but yeah. >> I'm just getting frustrated cuz I'm getting like Yeah, is there any way that I can like move forward with like like how would I go forward with like getting my money back, getting evicted? >> On March 2nd, 2023, officers were dispatched to what first appeared to be a routine eviction, but once they arrived, it quickly became clear that 22-year-old Jinja Na Jacobs and her girlfriend had pulled something far more troubling than a simple housing dispute. >> Yes, I own this house. My name is Patty Peoples. I own this house. It was for sale. We came over here to let a handyman in to do some work and he said, "Well, there's a dog and puppies on the front." So, we came over and these people moved in yesterday and she has a signed lease and paid $3,100 for first and last month's rent and a pet deposit. So, >> already talked to her? >> Yeah, she's very calm and very very polite. >> Hey, how you doing, young lady? Good morning. >> Hi. >> What's going on? >> So, basically, um I'm 22 years old and I just moved out of the halfway house to homeless house. My mom died 2 years ago. I've been in a homeless house for a freaking year. I've been up money to get an apartment. This dude, Mr. Christopher Cross that I've been contacting, which I'm going to give you all the information that I have. He brought me to this house on about February the 15th, and he showed me the house. He walked right in the house. He came here. He unlocked that [music] front door. Came right in the house. He showed me it. Told me the house was for for $1,200. I mean, $1,400. Excuse me. >> I think we need to talk about, unfortunately for you, the next steps. But this week, we have an offer on the house. >> The officer instantly sensed that something about the situation wasn't quite right. Both parties seemed calm and polite at first, but then Jacob suddenly steered things in a very different direction. >> And according to my my dad is a He sells houses. He works for One World Realty. And according to him, I contacted him um about this. So basically So basically this is like That's a lot of money amount of money that I'm going to have to get back, $3,100. And he basically told me that I don't have to um I don't have to go. He basically told me that I don't have to go. He came and he will go He will go through the court system to get me I need to go, but he told me I don't have to. So it's really up to him on what he does about before y'all. My dad said I don't have to go on who had to do something. Because I paid my money to be here. So whatever the police says, then that's what we'll we'll go. But if I'm not getting my money back today, then I'm not leaving today, unfortunately. Cuz then I have no money, no place to stay. That's just not unfortunate for me. So sorry. >> I asked you So you met this guy how many times? Twice? >> Three. >> Three times? >> Three times. >> What does he look like? >> Okay, so he's a white dude. He's about a little bit taller than you, maybe just a little bit taller than you. Bald guy. Grayish, silverish, goldish color, if that makes sense. Like it was like all those colors in one. Like it was gray, gold, and silver all in one. Like that's the colors it was giving me. >> And what was the breakdown of the payment again? So >> It was the rent was $1,400. The payment deposit was $500. And security deposit It $1,200. I thought it was $600, but that was not it. It was 1200. >> And you see that he sawed off the front door handle. >> Oh, yeah. And she said that that's not even the same door handle that was on there. Must have sawed off the lock box and the front door, too. >> Jacobs began offering a detailed description of the so-called man who had allegedly rented her the house. But before long, it became clear that a far darker truth was hiding beneath the surface. >> Is your Oh, that's your Okay, look. >> Hold on to this. I'm going to be I'm going to be straightforward and completely honest with you and Frank. All right? You're being You're being scammed for your home. Um this is what I believe. Now, when I >> She's part of it? >> I assume so. Play it smooth for now. I'm going to explain everything to you, okay? >> Let me see this is what I'm sorry. Um so, I believe that she's part of it, but I can't say for certain right now. I believe this could be one of those circumstances where she may have created a lease and came to the house and did this because there's a similar circumstance that she's involved in where it's almost the exact same thing. >> Real. >> I believe that that's going to be the case. So, I don't Honestly, right now, she's not knowing that I'm going to play it a certain way. >> Yeah, yeah. >> But I'm going to try to You got two options, okay? She has either leave and she had or she has to be a victim. And I want to do my best It's coming in soft and then it'll get a little tougher with it and try to convince her that she's going to be investigated personally. >> Huh. >> That'll leave you you alone in it because if if But if Technically, I can't prove it. So, she can still be a victim. >> Uh-huh. >> And it's technically would be a civil ordeal. So, you would still you The options are she deletes on her home, which I'm going to try to really convince her to do. Or you have to be a victim. >> Got it. So, you have you you saw that this exact same thing had happened with her prior? >> It's similar. Yes. >> Like how many years ago? Recent? >> Less than a year. >> Okay. >> right. So, I'm just going chill out and let you do your thing. >> Yeah. >> Okay. All right. >> All right. And then I'll let you know. Hold on to that. That's your report number. This incident is going to be documented. Um >> And is there any way that I can like move forward with like like how would I go forward with like getting my money back? Getting it Getting it to this dude to get my money back? Like how would I move forward about all of that? >> I'm going to give you that information in a minute. Um So, how did you come into contact with this person? >> Zillow. >> Zillow? >> Yes. >> Is that where it was listed? >> Yes. >> Okay. Is it still listed? >> No, it's not because when I went on there to show her because she said her house is for sale and I thought it was for rent and I went on there to go show her cuz I didn't All the information I've given you, I've talked to your friend, too, because like they're in fortunate for the both of us. >> Uh-huh. >> And um >> And how are you guys communicating? >> Through email. >> Okay. You got an email chain that I can see? >> You said the email? >> Like yeah, can I see the email? >> Oh, okay. Yeah, I have to go on my computer to do that cuz that's This is my iCloud. It's on my Gmail. That's why I gave you my Gmail. >> Okay. >> And I can send you if you have an email, I can send you the chain, but I would have to go in my my house and get my computer. >> Are you able to do that now? >> I can Yes, I can do that now, but I'm not sent to Like I can do that now, but like this this all Like once I go back in when I come back out, it's going to be it because I have to be to work at 9:00. That's what I'm telling both of you guys. I have to be to work at 9:00. And I can send you the information that you're asking for because I'm giving you all the information I have on my phone. Anything that's on my work I mean on my computer, I can send it to you on an email, but standing here until now, it's not going to work because I'm getting frustrated because it's been almost 2 hours. So, if you have an email that I can jot down, I understand that you wanted to just do AirDrop, but if you have an email that I can just send to your coworker or anything as the case may be, I can send that to you because the emails was ranging between the 15th and the 28th and I can send that to you, but it's going to be 9:00 and I need to get to work. Um >> Okay. Well, this is the first time I heard about you having to be at work at 9:00, so I understand. >> Why not? I I haven't said it because she knows. >> Hold on. >> I'm just getting frustrated cuz I'm getting like angry. >> not You're also not allowing You're also not allowing me to speak. I've been respectful. >> I've been respectful to you, too. >> It quickly became clear this was a scam when Jacobs fumbled for excuses about why she couldn't produce the emails from the man she claimed had rented her the house. In reality, it was the fourth time she had run the same scheme while casting herself as the victim. >> What I got to say is this is the first I'm hearing about you having to be at work at 9:00. Even though you said it to her, I didn't hear that because I'm not her. Okay? I've been in my car for >> Can I get your badge number? >> It's right there on the form. So, let me let me also let you let me Let me also let you know this, okay? So, that's fine. I understand your your concern. Um you're going to be investigated for fraud, okay? >> That's perfectly fine. I told you that already. >> If there If there is probable cause, you're going to be arrested, okay? So, one of your options when the big option that I think you should take, I think you and the young lady should go ahead and possibly move out because if not, then we're going to come back and we're going to take you guys to jail. >> Okay, so according to >> If we have probable cause to take you to jail >> Okay, if you have probable cause, that's fine and um that's fine. I'm not even going to say nothing else to you because I know how this works. My uncle is also a police, so I'm not going to say nothing else to you. I'm going to allow you to do what you do. Um I'm going to send you the information that I have. Well, I've given you the information, right? All this information. >> I haven't I I I don't have have it. I didn't receive your contact information. What is your name? >> Zena. >> Could you >> You didn't receive my contact information. You mean like the >> Your Yeah, by the way. >> The number that she just sent me, right? I mean the number that I just gave you, right? >> Yeah. >> Oh yeah, I have a text I have a text message, yeah. Um Okay, anything else you need to tell me because I will be calling you. >> yeah. And make sure you vacate the premises um as soon as you can. >> Okay, so um y'all can come back later. Y'all can go ahead and how about y'all How about you can actually call people here and y'all can Can y'all How long How long is it going to take to investigate? >> As long as it needs to take. >> Okay, because now it's going to get a little further because you're saying you're trying to arrest me for fraud when I know it's not fraud and I have money that's been given. So, now it's going to go a little further. >> you'd be investigated for fraud. >> You No, you What you said was I need to vacate the premises because if I don't leave, I'm going to be record I mean for fraud basically. All because I told you that I had to be at work and I got a little upset because I feel >> why that is. >> That is. That is because you That wasn't the What's his name? That wasn't how it was going to be. I'm not going to debate you. You can go ahead and get ready for work. You can come back later. You can come back later. As a matter of fact, I will call other people. >> You can call whoever you need to call. >> Um I have your number. Um For all of any other information, I will contact you again. Um if you have an email, I can send you any other >> Just call general information phone number. Ask Officer Smith. My badge number is right there where it says officer number. >> Mhm. Okay. >> So, what's the next step then? >> Basically, it's Well, I'm going to let him tell you. >> And you get your >> Of course, I'm I'm not going to vacate. I'm going to let him investigate and do what he does. And once you find out I'm not fraud, then you can take the next steps. Cuz I can't believe that you just worded it like that and everything. >> I said you're going to be investigated for fraud. >> He What he's saying is I believe he got frustrated cuz he wanted me to send the email for the change of the uh >> Okay, ma'am. >> The officer explained the consequences if it turned out the rental was fake. Jacobs didn't seem to fully grasp it at the time, but a few days later, she and her girlfriend chose to leave. Before [music] moving out, however, the pair sold all the brand new appliances and left the house in ruins causing $40,000 in damages. Back at the scene, the officer spoke with the frustrated homeowner who still couldn't access her own property. >> To go in the house now to look at the state of it. >> No, technically no. Because technically she she technically still could be a true victim. Technically, she does have an expectation of privacy because technically she is renting the house. >> I understand. >> The eviction process takes 30 days after the person's been served. After they After they've been served. >> Damn it. Even if Even in this situation, it's 30 days? >> Because technically she could be telling the >> Is there an offer on the house? >> Yeah. >> Oh my goodness gracious. >> I'm sorry. It does happen though. >> Yeah. That's what I'm hearing. >> Get this done as soon as you can. Talk with one of your business lawyers today. Tell them what's going on. You already got it documented with the police, so you crossed that off. They're going to say, "Call the police." You already did all that. Um, they can sit there and fix the process for you with the county courts. And it's going to tell you everything Google it, it's going to tell you everything you need. What you need cuz you'll It's going to say like person's name and all that stuff. It's all going to be documented in a report. >> Okay. All right, thank you. >> All right. >> All right. >> Good luck to you. >> Coming up, the suspect once again tried to twist the narrative, convincing the officer that she was the real victim in all of this. >> All right. Um, so basically, so these are the numbers I need to talk to cuz I really don't appreciate how your attitude has changed. So, I'm just going to come me being a niece of a police. I don't know if you know my uncle's name, but his name is Austin Smith. That's my uncle. Um, you probably don't know him. But, I just don't like the fact that as soon as I I've given you all the information I've given you. I just told you I came out of a homeless shelter. A person that comes out of a homeless shelter that has a 3-year-old son, this is very frustrating to them. This is very frustrating and very mindful to them. I have a car in the back that has to get towed here because it doesn't not work. So, that's very frustrating for to hear those words even come out of your mouth because I just gave you all the information I could. The only reason I can't give you the last piece of information is because like I said, I have to go get it off my computer. If you want to stay here for the next couple of minutes for me to get it, I can do that. But, I've been saying for the last couple of minutes and she knows that I've been telling her I have to get to work. Even when you came back and you said something about information, I said I have the office of the police process because I have to get to work. When she left and came back, I told her she even asked me she said, "Okay, well, will you be at work when I come back?" I said, "No, I don't have to be at work at night." So, excuse me for thinking that you heard that I had to be at work, but this this this is frustrating. This is very frustrating. And don't And don't even do all that damn emotional act. It's frustrating. This is $3,100 plus more that I came out of pocket that I cannot get back. And basically, y'all telling me that I have to move or I cannot get my money back. Then, you're telling me that basically, I'm a You're not telling me that I'm a fraud, but then again, you been nice as to me until I couldn't do that. Then, you begin to call me a fraud and have an attitude. My mother just passed. I don't have nobody to help me and my dad damn he he he been in the picture when he wants to do all he can do is spit out money. He said he's not here for me. So this [ __ ] is frustrating as [ __ ] And for me to come to a black police and for him to basically try to not even try to do anything cuz you were nice. You didn't do anything wrong until I told you I couldn't get those emails and I can get them for you. I just couldn't get them right now. Like I said, you you you do what you have to do because that will help me to get my money back. But all of that oh she's a fraud she's a fraud I don't take that lightly because my daddy will get me a lawyer and I will press I will press charges and I will do what I need to do. She tell you how she bone rushing here. This is my property. She shouldn't be bone rushing in here. But I didn't make it that make it that you're bone rushing here. Well who the [ __ ] is in here while my child is in there? But I didn't make it a video because at the end of the day just like it's unfortunate for me it's unfortunate for her because she probably possibly have to come out money that she probably doesn't even have. So it's a way of both things but I just don't appreciate how you were so nice and so gentle until I told you I couldn't get that last piece of information. Which I can I just couldn't get it right at the moment. And I have my job calling me because I signed up for overtime that I totally forgot about and that's why I was so extreme about it because I signed up for overtime at 8:30. It's 8:55. So they were calling me and that's why I kept running in and out the house running in and out the house so that I could talk to them without being in y'all face having to talk to me. But I felt like I shouldn't even have to explain any of that because I just wanted to apologize for even snapping on you that's number one. Number two, letting you know that I didn't I didn't appreciate that because like I said whether you feel like your tone changed or not your tone changed. Your tone changed and your demeanor changed. And I didn't I didn't appreciate that at all. But that's what I wanted to let you know. >> I see. Good luck to you. Have a good day. >> In the end, Jacobs was arrested for fraud, criminal mischief, and trespassing. She was sentenced to 30 days in jail. Up next, a squatter who believed she was untouchable and above the law when it came to living [music] in someone else's home. >> Go away. >> You're not going to make us come in and arrest you, are you? >> Go away. It's my house. >> She's got you there. >> Ma'am, if I go in this window, you're going to go to jail. Where you at? Oh, this is so silly, ma'am. >> On March 5th, 2025 in Ohio, police were called after a realty company reported someone illegally staying on their property. But when officers arrived, the woman flat-out to leave. >> Yeah, this is the window. Climbing in? I don't know about me, but >> [laughter] >> Yeah, we could bust that out. >> Hack the place. Yeah, hack the place. >> Why are you here? >> Why are you here? >> I'm not here. >> I don't know about that. >> Go away. >> What did I say? >> She said, "Go away." >> You're not going to make us come in and arrest you, are you? >> Go away. It's my house. >> She's got you there. Well, we're not going away. Well, I mean, I we didn't going to have you go through that way. I I thought you >> There's There should be a lock box on it. >> I already gave it to him. I already went out. >> Oh, on the front door? >> I don't know why this is here, but I'd have to go in to open that front door so you guys could get in. This is my only way in. >> Are you going to come out here? >> Go away. This is my house. I pay rent here. I pay rent. >> And who are you paying rent to? Well, that's not who owns the house. >> That is just a lie. >> Might actually He's parked. That's here. Well, you just got to leave the house. >> Go away. Go away. >> Ma'am, if I go in this window, you're going to go to jail. >> I pay rent here. I pay rent. Well, you're about to go back unless you leave this house. >> The woman clung desperately to her story, insisting this was her home. But, the paperwork painted a very different picture. And before long, the officers decided it was time to prove once and for all that she wasn't staying there. >> Are you wanting to sign trespass charges? Like you'll go down and do that? >> Yeah. It's fine. She shouldn't be here. I'm assuming the minute that either you guys leave or I leave, it's going to be the same thing again, you know. >> Last chance, ma'am. >> Um yeah, this one sold >> There's no lock box. There's no way for you to get in. You can't take this off. >> I don't know what to do there. This sold November last year, so >> And you are the manager currently? >> Yeah, one of the company brokers, yeah. >> I just called to double-check and verify this is the correct address and they sent me a lock for the whole file. >> It's >> Call for a dog? >> No, we're good. I'll get in. I just don't feel like it. >> You shouldn't be in here than I am. Sorry. >> I'll let you in around front. Ma'am, where you at? Oh, this is so silly, ma'am. >> Go away. I was in here on my phone. What do you want? >> What's your name, ma'am? >> Dehanna. >> What? Why are you in here when you shouldn't be in here? >> This is my house. >> It's not your house, ma'am. >> It is my house. I paid rent here. So, what do you want? >> How much rent do you pay? >> 250. >> Ma'am, this is going to be a silly thing to go to jail over. >> What do you mean to go to jail? I >> The owner of this house is here, and they're to sign trespass charges on you. We've given you >> So what? This is my house. for being in a house that you don't belong >> Ma'am, is this really worth going to jail for? >> I'm not going to go to jail. I don't pay rent. >> You don't You don't live here. You broke in. You're going to get charged with criminal trespass and go to jail. If you leave now, you still won't go to jail. I'm telling I'm telling you what's going to happen. I don't believe you. I'm telling you what's going to happen. >> I told you to come. >> I heard you. >> I told you to come. >> So I'm thinking if I can get this whole thing out, maybe we can go through here. We're going to have to toss her. >> Yeah. >> Unless she's not trying to go through that little window. >> Blood Viking, please tell them get out of our house, please. >> I think it's just her. It's just one. >> Cuz everybody went to work. >> She's been in here a while. >> No, I have not. I just came back from school. >> How'd you get in? >> From the front door. I got a key. >> The door don't open. >> Cuz I locked it. Duh. Dumb sense. Get out. I'm waiting till my mom and my dad come back. >> The suspect's behavior grew more bizarre by the minute, and it became clear she was destined for jail. But just when officers thought the ordeal was over, another problem surfaced. >> Ma'am. >> No. >> Yes, ma'am. >> I'm not leaving out my house. I'm not leaving out my house. >> You are. You're under arrest. >> No, I'm not. Go ahead. Do not touch me. >> Ma'am, don't touch me. >> Do not touch me. Do not touch me. Do not touch me. Do not touch me. Do not touch me. >> Listen, we don't want to fight with you. We don't want to fight. >> This is my house. >> asking you to leave. >> Okay, blah blah right now is killing Jasmine on, and right now he told me to stay in here and wait till he come back. So leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. I'll wait for blah blah to come back. >> Okay. >> Move! Move! Move! Move! Get off of me! Get off of me! Get off of me! >> [screaming] >> Any luck? Huh? >> I didn't do nothing wrong. For what? >> You ready to stand up? Okay, 1 2 3. Come on. We're going to walk towards this window here, okay? Put your foot up, please. Help. >> You want to try? Need assistance or you good? >> Just watch me flop out of here, that's all. He's way more cooperative about that than I expected. Yeah. Oh my god, there we go. Yeah. What's the best way to get free of these boards out. >> Yeah, all right. >> Yep. >> What's happening? Going over here and who's here? >> Don't worry about it. Keep on walking. >> I just wanted to see his uh um >> She's good. >> All right, she's all right. >> I don't need to ask them to leave because I did this house sometimes because I have nowhere to sleep. >> Oh, don't go in there anymore, man. >> Don't go in there cuz you'll get arrested. >> With the woman finally secured inside the cruiser, the officers turned their attention back to the property manager to wrap up the call once and for all. >> You're willing to go down and sign charges at the station here in a minute? >> I think I just did. >> I'm sure everybody's been breaking in there cuz of the Literally, that guy that just walked by, he goes, "Oh, I've been staying there every once in a while, too." And like he just thinks it's okay. Well, don't do it again, man. >> nothing. She wasn't stealing per se. >> was just sitting there on the floor. >> So, I don't think we're going to There was some truck parked out front here and they disappeared when you guys got here. >> Yeah, no, I think this is like This is like the homeless shelter right now. That's That's what they're >> upstairs, there's a air mattress. There's wheel shoes. Wheel shoes. >> I guess I got to make sure they'll even take her for trespass. >> Yeah. >> I mean, yeah, cuz I'm with you. She needs >> Anything. Yeah, yeah, I mean, if she They won't take her for that, maybe they'll take her for something or something like that, too. And then I know that I'm assuming they're probably not in their right mind considering >> No, she's definitely not. >> There's drawers full of rocks and >> Yeah. >> All right, let me Let me look at her info. You're good if you want to head on out. >> The woman was arrested and charged with criminal trespassing. Up next, this family believed they could squat in someone else's home forever, [music] but the police were about to show them a very different reality. >> I'm being evicted? >> Yes. >> No, I'm not. Show me the paperwork where I'm evicted. Get out of my house now! >> That's not happening. >> Get out of my house! >> Okay, you're under arrest. >> No, I'm not. I didn't do nothing. >> Hey, listen to me. Taser, taser, taser! >> You guys tased me, man. >> Correct. We gave you lawful We gave you many lawful orders. >> On August 19th, 2024, officers were dispatched to enforce an eviction order. A couple and and child had been squatting in the residence for over a year, but what should have been a simple removal soon spiraled into chaos. >> It's time to go. >> I know. Don't come in here with your cocky attitude. >> I just Now we have to come out here. >> Hey, whoa, buddy. >> No, no, no, no, don't >> You're not leaving. You're going to get arrested for trespassing. >> We are leaving. >> I I told him that. You're staying here, thank you. >> Not anymore. >> Yes, I am. >> Not anymore. >> They said I'm not evicted. >> No, I'm not. Show me the paperwork where I'm evicted. >> Well, this is what's going to happen. We're not going to play here in front of your kid. Let's go. >> Are you kidding me right now? No, you ain't throwing my [ __ ] >> Bro, bro, bro, bro, bro. How many times have I dealt with you, bro? Come on. All right, watch what you call us. >> But I'm on the >> Okay, call the police. >> That's fine. >> So, it's time for them to go right now, right?
