has a decapitated body. Holy [ __ ] I cut his head off, dude. Holy, dude. That's crazy. >> He plays soccer with his head. >> Yeah. >> Being an officer means not only keeping the streets safe, but also confronting the most bizarre and unsettling crime scenes. But what happens when the gruesomeness of a crime is so extreme that it leaves even seasoned officers shaken to their core? >> Your name's Jeff? >> Yeah. >> Where's Glenn? >> Glenn on a plane. Oh, yep. There's there's one. Holy. >> These were the moments when good cops discovered horrifying crime [music] scenes. We begin with a case in which officers were dispatched to a park following reports of a body. But the macob nature of the scene they encountered revealed [music] just how disturbed the human mind can become. >> You ever seen that guy? >> No. >> Your hands. >> You don't know that guy. On June 20th, 2021, [music] officers from New Mexico received a call that would unsettle anyone. According to the caller, a body had been found at Apadaka Park in Los Cusus lying on [music] the street. After receiving the call, officers rushed to the scene. But what they found there was far worse than they had imagined, and it would mark their careers forever. >> Oh my god. Hey, it's a decapitated body. >> I was about to go get a water burger, bro. I like the body laying the ground. >> Oh, is a knife of blood over there? >> Yeah, it's like stuck to the ground. You can see all the blood on it. >> So, I figure this is like cartel relief. I really want to walk up to the body and just check it out. Hey, sir. Uh, I I got to puke and I don't want to puke in the crime scene. >> I did say decapitated head. [music] >> Decapitated head. >> Holy. >> Sir, put your hands up. Get on your knees. Put your hands where I can see them. Stay where you are. Keep your hands up. >> I got cover. You got contact. >> I cut his head off, >> dude. Holy dude, that's crazy. Holy. He caught somebody, dude. Dude, did you see how small that knife was? It's literally this big, dude. He had to be gnawing at that thing for a while, though. Spines, dude, are tough, bro. And we drove by here cuz we kept going to these calls over here. We were probably driving by and he's just hacking away, man. >> Dog, the knife was like 3 in legit. The head is like >> in the middle of the road. You might have another head in the bag, bro, cuz there's a bag with blood in it. Looked like a head in it. How the do we drive by here and nobody calls that? >> People call in code 24. This code 24 time. Yeah, this gets his head hacked off with a pen knife >> and nobody says nothing, dude. He cut against the tree, too. There was like an execution stop. >> I'll be heading, >> dude. Cuz that was a It was a car accident for sure. [music] Nah, dog. He got his head cut off. Holy. It's bad, bro. >> Oh, yeah. >> And he dragged the body and probably threw the head because where they cut the head off is like here and then the body's over there and the head's even a little farther. >> Dude, that was that's up, dude. Okay, so like the See, this is the tree that the we found the pole of blood on. The body's like like right here and then the head's like right there. No, no, no. Like like the chop spots here. >> The body is like in the middle of the road with the head part wherever like a sk a neck and then the head's over here somewhere. I don't know if he was like cut him off, toss the head and then drag the body. >> We have a decapitated person at Hanaka Park. Affirmative. >> See that black spot? >> Yeah. >> Oh, the cabza. >> Wow. Okay. >> Hands covered in blood. >> Uhhuh. >> And there's a knife stick in the ground covered in blood. >> Wow. So, like some al-Qaeda [ __ ] >> It's a welper check for a male laying on the ground decapitated. And there's a knife sticking in the ground covered in blood. Like a steak knife. Filelet knife. >> What? A steak knife? >> Like a thin fillet fish fillet knife. >> It could be all kind of just a guy getting his head chopped off with a 2in knife. You can't even >> What the 50 ft south of the body up against the tree. Large bowl. >> So, what's going to happen is we're going to go hang out in the booking room for a little bit and then the detectives that were over there, they're going to come and talk to you here in a bit. Okay. So, just because you're going to be talking to them and stuff like that, you're going to be in a more comfortable room where they're going to allow you to most likely take the handcuffs off. Is it cool if I take out all the items out of your pockets? That way, I can put them safely in this bag. >> Yeah, >> we at the scene, officers found the lifeless body of 51-year-old James Garcia. Finding a body was disturbing enough, but the state in which James was discovered went beyond any limits. His head was located 30 m away from his body, and a small knife was found at the scene, so small that officers questioned how such a horrific act could even be committed. Fortunately, the perpetrator was quickly located sitting calmly under a tree with on his hands. He was later identified as Joel Arinega Science. Joel was immediately handcuffed and taken to the interrogation room, although officers expected to understand what had happened between the two men quickly. Joel made it clear from the very first question that the interrogation would not be easy. >> You feel any better? >> No, I'm Did you sleep at all? >> No. >> No. Okay. I just wanted to come talk to you a little bit more. um remind you that I did read you your rights. So, just remember that if you have any questions about your rights, you can ask. But um is there anything that you can remember from last night? >> No, sir. >> Can you tell us what happened last night? >> You remember where you were at last night? Okay. [music] Do you remember why you're here? No. >> Do you have any questions about what happened or how you got here? >> All right. So, well, here's the thing, man. Is we picked you up at Apadaka Park. Okay. You remember that? All right. Remember you had blood on you. So now you have blood on your hands on your clothes. You didn't tell me about that. You know how the blood got there? Okay. Can you tell me anything that you do remember from last night? >> You said no you don't remember or you just don't want to tell me? Who's James? Have >> you ever met James before? >> Do you hang out down at the at the community of Hope at all? [music] >> Where do you like to hang out when you're not at Apadaka Park? Do you have any idea why you're here? No. Well, I think having the blood on your hands is kind of a good uh indication of why you're here. >> Joel was clearly unwilling to answer any of the investigators questions. According to him, he didn't know James, had no connection to him through any community, and didn't know why he was there. He acted as if he was clueless about what had happened, but investigators knew he was hiding a dark truth behind his attitude and continued to press him for information. >> Because you don't know anything about that, >> you don't know why your hands were covered in blood, why there's blood on your clothing. You know anything about the the person that was out there put on the park. Look at me. Can you look at me? This is a serious situation that we got going on right now. Okay. We really need you to talk to us and tell us what happened. I know we tried before and I know there were some issues with wanting to talk, not wanting to talk, not remembering, right? Okay, that's why we're back at it again. Okay, we want to try to we don't want to just leave it at that. Try to see what we know about what happened. Do you know anything about what happened? Yeah. Can you tell me what you know about it? Why not? You can't remember. This would be a good time for you to try to start remembering, okay? Cuz I'm going to tell you right now, we have somebody that out there. You understand that there's a man out there? And you know that this is a good time for you to talk to us and tell us what happened. because there was nobody else out there but you and him. >> Joel sat there in complete silence, saying nothing. His behavior was deeply unsettling, as if he had not only taken someone's life, but seemed almost detached from the reality of it. Investigators continued to question him. Yet, he maintained the same strange, unyielding demeanor, revealing nothing. >> Do you understand what's going down right now? No. We're investigating the of that gentleman that's out there. That's what's going down right now. Okay, obviously you know that when we show up and we find somebody that's we have somebody that has blood on their hands. You can see where we're coming at, right? This your time to explain on your hands cuz all we can do is put two and two together while we're out there. All we can do is take what we see on you and what we see out there at the scene. You understand that, right? And if we're misconstruing something or not getting something right, this is the time for you to tell us. And we want to make sure that you fully understand the gravity of the situation right now. What do you think's going to happen right now? You don't think thinking about what I've just sat here and told you about all that we've talked about about guy being out there, you having blood on your hands, us finding you near him. You can't conjure up anything about what you think's about to go down. I know you're a lot more logical than what you're you're making out be. Okay? I know you're smarter than this. I know you know what I'm talking about. I know you know what's happened. And I know you probably don't want to talk about it, but this is the time. Did James attack you? [music] Go. 12. Can't sit there and act like you're seeing him. This isn't going to go away. >> As the investigation continued, Joel's uncooperative nature became more and more apparent with each passing minute as he even tried to mislead the investigators. But the detective was about to ask a question that seemed impossible for Joel to ignore. So, I'm just trying to find out more information about James. So, was he your boyfriend? Were you guys dating each other? >> Okay. Were you guys in some kind of lovers quarrel? >> Oh, yeah. >> Like because he's your boyfriend. You guys got in an argument? >> Just what I'm getting. >> You tell me, man. I've been [ __ ] gay. >> I'm not calling you gay. Yeah, I'm not judging you. I'm >> married. >> You're married? >> Yeah. >> Who you married to? >> You married to James? >> Are you gay? That's good. >> Are you married to James? >> Are you trying to insult? >> Huh? >> Are you insulting you? >> No, I'm not insulting you. We're not calling you gay. >> Or are you calling me gay? >> We're not calling you gay. We're just asking what it is. >> I didn't call you gay. >> I said, "Are you married to James?" >> No. Told you I'm married to James. Okay. Well, I'm trying to find out why James is in a park and you were have his blood all over your hands. >> I'm not gay. I bet you are. >> Okay. >> So, you didn't have any kind of lovers coral with James? >> No. >> No, I don't. >> Okay. politics. >> So, is that why you attacked James tonight? >> Because he called you gay? >> That's not my question. >> Is it because James is gay? >> Why are you calling me gay? >> I'm asking you. You are getting >> I'm not lying about anything. healthy. >> You're telling me I don't know their everything. >> You act like a child. >> I'm not acting like a child. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> So then tell me about James. >> Tell me about James. >> Is that why you're pissed off? Because James thought you were gay? No. >> Did James hit on you? No. >> Did he make some kind of advance toward you that you didn't like? Don't hold on game. >> No big click in here. >> Yeah, >> I'll call gay. >> Okay. Well, I mean, if that's what you feel like you want to do. >> I'm not calling you gay. I'm asking you. >> You literally just came here. >> I did not. >> I asked if James was your husband. >> I asked you if that was her. >> Yeah. I told you that's not >> Joel. seemed insulted by the investigator's question, appearing more unsettled by the insinuation than by what he had done the night before. Unknowingly, he was beginning to fall into the investigator's trap, slowly starting to speak. >> I'm trying to find out why your blood or why James's blood is all over you. >> So, if it's because you guys had a lover's quarrel or he made some kind of unwanted advance. >> I guess. >> You guess. >> No. >> So, he did. >> You figured it out. >> Do I? >> Yeah, you do. Well, then help me out. >> Want to fight me? >> I don't want to fight you. >> Well, it's my ghost. >> I don't want to fight you. >> Don't call me gay. >> Not call me gay. >> Okay. So, tell me what it was. >> No. Apologize. >> Okay. I apologize. That's all. >> So, well, >> you came in here lying, trying to save. >> I'm not lying. I'm trying to figure out your relationship. >> I know that white lady. She's >> Why can't she come in here? Why does she have to You guys are still out there. >> Help us out, James. >> Clarify it for us. >> I know. That's what I'm doing. I'm asking you questions. You suck. You're not. >> I'm not doing anything. >> You've me like four times. >> I'm not trying to act like I'm tough at all. >> You're right. >> Am I? >> Okay. >> So, tell me. >> You're going to show me the address. >> Okay. So, then what happened tonight? >> Okay. So, here's what I think happened. You and James are in a relationship. He said something to you and you him. Where did you get that? >> Baker. >> He's Baker. >> Why are they sister? >> Yeah. Is that what happened? >> I don't know. Exactly. >> Okay. I like your wife. >> All right. >> I have a wife. >> Okay. Does your wife know where you're at right now? >> No. I don't even tell you anything. >> Does she know that you're sleeping in the park with another guy? >> No. >> You told me earlier you're sleeping in the park. You and James are the only ones in the park. >> I didn't do that. That's exactly what he told me. >> It's on [music] the camera. >> Noticing that the question about a possible relationship with James seemed to both insult Joel and make him speak more. [music] The investigators continued to press this line of inquiry, aiming to uncover what had happened that night. >> That's all happened with you and James tonight. What happened? Like I said, you're sleeping the James. You don't know why you're right. >> No. >> Yeah. you cuz I never call you cuz I'm not helping. >> Yeah. >> Okay. I I wish she was. >> Okay. >> So then tell me why you So am I close to what happened? James made an advance on you and you didn't like it cuz you're not gay. The scarlet she became gay. [music] Scarlet. What was your wife's name? She caught you getting beat by her partner. >> Did you James because he was gay? You didn't like that? >> No, I don't know. >> You don't know why you don't. >> Okay. So So tell us tell us what happened. Well, you James because something he did to you. >> As the investigation continued, detectives found more questions that curiously made Joel speak, revealing that what had happened that night was not random, but the culmination of a troubled history. >> Joel, you still use it? >> You used to use So, do you still use it? >> Yeah. Yeah, we have we have records of you using it. You still using it? >> No. Good. How long you been clean for? >> Okay. How can we have records of you in general investigation? What's the name of the person? >> That's confidential information. Miami just asking for students. >> She I saw her video. >> Yeah, I know. You know, her you been here or some she's the one that gave me the information that you were using or some [ __ ] You still using them? I've never done >> Never done anything. >> Really? She's never done any drugs whatsoever. I don't know what your records are. >> Okay. >> You drink alcohol? >> I'll go off. >> Okay. What about prescription medication? >> No. Be diagnosed with any mental illness or anything like that? >> No. So, recently you were arrested for vandalism, right? >> Yeah. >> You know vandalism as you were charged with it. You know what? You were arrested more than half your arrest. You got arrested for it. You know what? You know what that was? You got arrested for, right? >> Uh, one of the coffee shops, right? That's what it was. >> Coffee shop downtown. >> Yeah, that's right. Never heard of that place. >> I'm sure you did because you got the license. I got >> You broke all the windows to it. What else did that happen? >> I don't know. You tell me. You're the one that did it, right? Did I do? >> Yeah. Maybe that's why you got charged with it. I think you were been charged with I don't know. What have you been charged with? I haven't been charged with anything. So, been charged with major. >> Oh, yeah. Been charged with before? Had a daughter named usually. You been charged with murder before? that her daughter needs her. >> Yeah. >> Joel was no stranger to the system, having had prior troubled encounters with the law. Noticing that certain questions made him start speaking, the investigators seized the [music] opportunity and began pressing him again about James, and the truth began to unfold. >> I don't know what happened to James. He knows [music] they have the mirror covered in blood. [music] You remember when we did those swabs of your hands? >> Okay. Percy. >> Yeah. Remember when we did swabs of your hands a little while ago? You ever played the last part, too? You remember when we took swabs in your hands? You rub those Q-tips on your hands. Remember that? We're going to send that off to We're going to send that off the lab and it's going to come back. James blood's blood. It's going to be on your hands. [music] James, >> but it's embarrassing. >> You never seen that guy? >> No. How is this blood on your hands? >> You don't know. >> Like there it's all said cuz you right. That's how it happened. Yep. Ain't that true? >> Look, Joel, you know what you did? We just want to know why you did it. >> Joel, >> it is Joel. >> What do you want to be called then? >> Alire. >> I'm sorry. >> I gave it to them. >> Alire. A L T A I R. >> Alter. >> That's my relationship. >> Okay. Alter. >> So why did you that guy? It's >> cuz he raped my wife. >> He raped your wife. >> When did this happen? >> 4 years ago. >> 4 years ago. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Was that reported? >> No, we were all homeless. >> What's that? >> We were all homeless. >> You guys are all homeless. >> Homeless. >> Homeless. I'm sorry. Where did it where did that happen at? >> The same spot you was at. >> The same spot you was at? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. So, you this guy cuz you raped your wife 4 years ago. >> Yes. >> Okay. How did you >> Those are those are our bags that he had. He was stealing from us. >> Okay. Which bags are yours? >> Three bags belong two friends. >> Okay. I wanted to get him back. I just tried to take him with the gun. So, so yeah, I had a knife myself. >> And what else did you do? >> Okay. Because you had your bags. What knife did you use? >> I don't know. >> He had it. >> Yeah, I pulled off. >> You pulled off of him? >> Yeah, cuz he tried a second. I just wanted my bags back. >> Okay. >> He had a gun. He had a knife. What kind of gun was it? >> Like a little 22. >> Did you see what color it was? >> It's like black with a brown handle. Take that from me. And he tried to pull it on me and I took it away and he pulled out a knife. I don't like guns. I don't carry gun. I can fight. I just wanted my voice back. >> Okay. >> At this point, Joel's version of the story began to emerge. According to him, James had assaulted his wife four years earlier, which had caused Joel to harbor aly rage toward the man. He further claimed that [music] James had stolen the couple's belongings and that he stabbed him when they encountered him, later decapitating him. But [music] the disturbing details of that night didn't end there. >> Kids soccer with his head. >> He played soccer with his head. >> Yeah. Passing cars. >> How many cars passed by you? >> About 14 different cars pass by. >> Really? speed. >> What time did this all happen at? >> 4:59. >> Was it dark outside or was light outside? >> Pitch black. >> Pitch black. Did you use the same knife that you him with to cut his head off? >> What? Did the knife that you him with? Is that the same knife you used to cut his head off? >> Yeah. Get like a switch blade or something. >> And that's what you used? >> Yeah. [music] >> Where's that gun at now? >> I don't know. >> You just left it there? >> Yeah. I don't know if you guys recover. >> Was anybody else around? >> No, it was just us. There was a struggle. Maybe not. Okay. Where at the park? Did you Did this all occur? I think you said park. You know, we're at center park towards the end of the road. >> Or did you know he was there? >> No, I knew he was there. He had stolen our stuff. He stole my stuff. He stole it back. When did he steal your guys stuff? >> Four nights ago. >> Four nights ago. >> Where was your stuff at? Where he sold it from? >> We were on the other side of near the Walmart. >> Yeah, we were hanging out there. We all fell asleep. No more stuff. So that's all I'm looking for. You got it with your stuff? >> Yeah, he was there. And I asked for it back. I woke him up politely. He starts her staff. He search I need to bring my girlfriend. >> Can you give us her name? So we she's she's >> I don't know where she's trying to find her. >> Disturbingly Joel allegedly claimed that he played soccer with James' head after taking his life. The investigator's strategy of asking questions that irritated him and forced him to speak worked. But by this point, the details of the crime had grown so extreme that just thinking about the scene would make anyone uneasy. Later in the investigation, the autopsy revealed that James had been stabbed approximately 84 times before having his head cut off and that one of his fingers had also been severed and left at the scene. Joel's state of mind was deeply questionable, as he not only took someone's life, but also treated the man's head like a toy after the gruesome act. Regardless of his reasons, the act was inexcusable and in the end, Joel was found guilty of James' and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Moving on to the next case, where a [music] search for an elderly man quickly turned into a disturbing discovery. >> Hey, stay in the car. Stay in the car. Stay in the car. Stay in the car. Stay in the car. Stay in the car. Are you sure you're not Glenn? >> Why? >> Just tell me if you're Glenn, dude. >> I am Glenn. Why? >> No. >> All right. Yep. Now it's Now it's >> all right. All right. Okay. On May 2nd, 2023, officers from Dearborn, Michigan, received a call reporting that 69-year-old Glenn Mlan had stopped answering his family's calls and his whereabouts were unknown. At his [music] house, officers discovered crimson stains and noticed that Glenn's car was missing. Later that same day, the police found the missing car located in a parking lot. But what they found there immediately raised red flags for the officers. >> Anyone will be out with it behind Tim Hortons. Edward Lincoln Town 3605. Looks like one in it. >> Hey, stay in the car. Stay in the car. Stay in the car. Stay in the car. >> Stay in the car. Stay in the car. Stay in the car. >> I understand. What's your name? >> Jeff. >> Jeff? >> Yeah. >> Why you back here, Jeff? >> I'm using the boat. >> Okay. >> Okay. You got any weapons or anything? >> Jeff. >> Okay. Come on out here. Let me talk to you real quick. Mind if I patch you on? Make sure you don't have any weapons or anything. >> Jeff, where do you live? >> I live in Westland. >> Westland. The first name is Glenn. >> Your name's Jeff? >> Yeah. >> Where's Glenn? >> Glenn's on a plane. >> Going where? >> Florida. He said, >> "Whose phone's that?" >> This is my phone. >> Okay. Do you have your ID with you? >> What do you have in your pockets besides? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Yeah. >> Are you sure you're not Glenn? >> Why? >> Just tell me if you're Glenn, dude. >> I am glad. Why? >> No. >> You think I'm You think I Nothing. We're looking out for you. They want to see if you're good. What's your deal? Where you been? >> I'm just out on the bench. That's all. >> I figured. >> Your family's looking for you. >> I know. I heard my son calling me. I text him back. >> Okay. >> Everything's cool. >> All right. You got any dope on you? >> No. >> You sure? >> I'm fine. I'm trying to find some. >> I know. I figured. You're driving around circles. I don't know. Well, >> what can we do to help you out with, man? >> I'm going home right now to call my son and tell him everything's cool. >> Well, how about you get on the phone with him right now on speaker phone so we can figure that out. >> You got your ID on you? >> No, I don't. >> I have a motel room. I got a motel. >> Where's that? I'm Marman in uh E course up there. >> Okay. >> Right away. >> All right. Get him on the phone. Get your son on the phone. >> In the parking lot, officers found Glenn's red vehicle, but it was not abandoned. Inside the car, a man later identified as Jeffrey Dwight Lockach was found. At first, when confronted by an officer, Jeff gave his [music] own identity. But moments later, he shifted his story and insisted that he was Glenn. Initially, it appeared that the missing man had been found, but as the investigation unfolded, more and more questions about the man's true identity began to emerge. There's nothing in the car that we need to know about. Do you mind if we take a look? >> Yeah, I do mind. Really? Okay. >> I'm not doing anything wrong. I'm just using the phone, that's all. >> Okay. Well, you just >> you have a and you just told us that you're looking for [music] So, that kind of gives us reason to look. So, >> whatever. >> You know what I'm saying? >> Yes. >> You sitting back that way for me. >> Oh, I'm sorry. >> In front of the right. >> I was just on the phone. You got any warrants or anything, man? >> No. >> Okay. >> We're not looking for you. >> No, what happened at the house, Glenn? >> Huh? What happened? The dog got hurt. >> The dog? >> Yeah. >> Where is the dog? >> The dog. It's not my dog. It's my buddy's dog. He got hurt >> underneath the car. >> He's a He's actually >> really All right. Well, tell tell that your family or whatever. >> I'm trying to >> can't get through. >> What was your first name again? >> Glenn. >> What's your last name? >> Mlean. >> What's your birthday? >> What's my birthday? >> Yeah. >> Your birthday? Like your entire year? >> I don't I don't have to answer any of these questions. >> Well, right now we're This is an investigation. >> I understand. I understand it. But I'm not doing anything wrong, bro. I'm out having enjoying myself. >> You know what I'm saying? I'm enjoying myself, bro. That's all there is to >> We can look it up. We just makes it easier if you tell us. That's all. Okay. >> I mean, I'm trying to get back to my spot. So, what's your spot? >> The motel. >> America's Best. >> America's Best in Where at? >> On Marman. >> I'm Marman. What you doing over here? >> I'm looking for the wrong part. >> I know. I know that. >> Why is your family looking for you? >> Because I haven't answered the phone for him for a couple days and then I didn't tell him about the dog. >> I didn't tell them about the dog. >> Okay. >> Jeffrey's behavior immediately raised multiple alarms for the officers. His defensive manner spoke louder than his words. Something was deeply wrong. >> The dog actually smacked his head on uh underneath the car that I'm working on in the garage. >> Clear, please. I'll show you. >> They're not answering. >> Well, I was just talking to my friend, but now my phone's dead. Now my phone's dead. So, >> oh well. >> We'll we'll charge it if we need. >> Everything Everything's cool. >> We just got to get a hold of them. For some reason, they want us to talk to you. We don't know why. So, we're figuring out >> Well, me and my son ain't all tight like that. >> You know what I mean? He wanted to come over and get some parts from me and I told him I wasn't going to be home because I didn't want to tell him what I was doing. >> Yeah, that's fine. I mean, you don't want to talk to your family. >> You don't got to talk to your family. I'm not here for >> Well, because my my son got me into a conflict with these guys that I sell parts to. So that's why I don't talk to him back. >> That's fine. >> He just wants to aggravate me for car parts and bike. >> They want to make sure you're okay. >> What is he doing? >> So I don't know. As far as I know, your family just wants to make sure you're okay. That's all that's all they want to know. >> I was going to call I texted him earlier and I told him I told him I'll call him back. I don't want to tell him what I'm doing. >> You don't have to tell them what you're doing. It's just they're worried about you. That's all. I know. >> But you got to understand if if they think something bad happened to you, they're going to, you know. >> Yeah, I know. I didn't clean it up because I scooped the dog up and took him to the vet real quick. You know what I'm saying? >> Probably why they think something bad happened. >> He actually fractured his skull underneath the back into the rear end of the car. >> What did he run over there while the car was driving or something? >> No, I was sitting up there and he got excited. >> Oh, okay. You know how dogs run back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. >> You ran under the car and busted his [ __ ] over. >> And now we're both out here standing in the rain. >> I know. >> I mean, I just didn't want to tell my son what I was doing. That's all. >> What? >> Who is I'm not wearing my shoes because of that. arrest him for that. The paraphrased. >> Although Jeffrey tried to defend himself from the officers, his story was betraying him in ways beyond his control. Jeff admitted he was looking for narcotics, giving officers a clear path to take action against him. Even as he continued to maintain his act, the cracks in both his story and his behavior were slowly exposing him to the officers. Do you rebuild cars for a living? >> Well, I used to work at General Motors. >> Oh, okay. >> I just do cars on the side. >> You mind do me a favor? Facing this officer for me. >> Put your hands behind your back together. Palms together and lock like that. All right. >> All right. What's the matter? >> Do you have anything else on you that we need to know about? >> No. Okay. >> What's the matter? >> Is your name really Glenn? >> Yeah. Why? What's the matter? What's your last name? >> What's my last name? >> McClean. Okay. >> What was that birthday again? >> My middle name is Gordon. >> What was that? What was that birthday again? Just >> Nope. >> Well, I'm going whichever way you guys want me to go, man. >> What? Am I under arrest or what? Right now, yes, you are. >> For what? >> Don't care for me. >> Oh, really? Come on. A little more virgin checking the side. It's about >> here. Come on. >> Sit down first and take your shoes off. Make sure you got nothing to shoot for. >> Oh, he's doing >> Yeah, just do the other side. >> Why you lying about your nick? What do you mean? Why? At one point told me he was saying whoever's car >> 3X traffic. >> So he told me I said what's going >> What happened to your head? >> Underneath the car. >> Underneath the car on his head. That's >> all. >> What's going on here? See, >> kick your boots off for me. >> Keep that foot inside the car. I'm just leaving it the way it was. He kind of jumped out on me, so I just left it that way. >> What do you use? >> No. >> No needles. We'll put it back on later. Other one. >> He has gloves in my chest pocket right there. >> I'm going to put my hand. >> Jeffrey didn't know it at the time, but officers had far more information than he imagined. They knew about Glenn's identity and the red marks found at his house. His fabricated story wouldn't save him. It only prolonged [music] the investigation unnecessarily, and he was about to realize that. Bro. >> Oh, the trunk, dude. >> Huh? How you right? Yeah. >> Secure it. He says the wait said secure it. So, I just left it the way exact. So, what is it? >> The deal is this is not Glenn. Glenn's missing. >> Who the hell is this then? >> This is his car. Glenn's car. >> He has Glenn. He has his phone in his car. There was some sort of incident where there's blood in the garage at the house and they can't find him and stuff. So they don't know what's going on and who this guy is >> on his way over here then. >> Yes, he's got >> that's what I thought. >> So my car is recording. Everybody's recording. Something happened. >> Everything's been on. >> So leave that there. >> Yes. Something something's wrong. And he also has a big cut on his head as well. Um he gave us some fake name. >> What? What? >> Hold on. >> Vehicle secure for now. >> Jeffrey University. >> What's your first name? >> Jeffrey. >> Jeffrey. What? >> Lock. L O C K E. >> What? >> L O C K E. >> L [music] C K E. >> Yeah. I got a one in West Land in C. I think where I where um I missed my court date last week. You >> missed your court date last week? >> Yeah. Spell your first for me. >> Jeffrey. >> Spell it. >> R E Y. >> 65. >> What? >> J E F R E Y. >> J E F R E Y. >> What's your last name? >> L C E. Just >> one E. What's your date of birth? Dwight. >> Spell it. D W I G H T. What's your last address? >> Westland. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> At this point, officers had an important confirmation needed for the case. The man found inside Glenn's car matched a report made earlier that day. Jeffree lived with Glenn and had been described as the last person to see him before he went missing. Not only that, but the investigation also revealed that the driver's license found on Jeffrey belonged to Glenn, not him. With Jeffrey secured in the patrol car and his identity confirmed, officers were able to search Glenn's vehicle. What they found inside, however, would haunt them throughout their careers. >> Go ahead. >> This is a problem after >> I was just thinking the exact same thing. looking at you. >> I'm curious. This guy did between now and then. >> I want to look in there. Yeah, I don't want to look in there. Um I want Ken to get here. >> His He don't look like some of the >> He's got rubber gloves back here, too. >> 2021. Nice new Mustang. >> He's got a He's got a jack here. We got rubber gloves. 228 >> food back there or something. >> How long you guys been looking for How long you looking for this car for? >> A couple hours. >> Any blood in the scene at the house? [music] >> Yeah. >> Plenty. >> That's why I want to go in there to make sure there's nobody in here. >> Okay. If you guys feel nec that's okay. I call it. He said that there's enough emergency situation. Make sure there's not someone up there. >> I'm not touching up. >> Yep. You got >> All right. Got our keys. >> All right. Throw it back here. Pop it. >> Everybody. >> Oh, yep. There's >> There's Glenn. >> No. >> All right. >> Yep. >> Now it's Now it's the party. >> All right. All right. >> Okay. >> Holy [ __ ] >> At this point, officers made the gruesome discovery they had been searching for. Inside the car, they found stains and a strong metallic odor, leading them to the only place where something far worse could be hidden, Glenn's body. Tragically, Glenn was found deceased inside the vehicle, and the case was now officially a homicide. >> Uh, pull that car. >> Can you pull that Can we pull that seat back, guys? My tire, man. >> All right, I'm going to close this. All right, you guys good? >> You want to get rescue for confirmation? >> Yeah, go ahead. >> Let me get the rescue out here. >> Deceased, right? >> Uh rescue Martins deceased male. Yeah, >> that just just got a little bit longer now, didn't it? >> Yeah. >> Yes, very much so. >> Yes. Be advised that uh Canton located the missing person in the rear of the Mustang. >> Yep. >> Back up, please. >> Five unresponsive. Do you um you make sure >> he's not >> I don't want to make like if he's breathing or something. I don't want to >> I'll double double check. >> Yeah, they popped it and then uh he's there. >> He's in there. >> I just want to just do a All right. >> He's >> He's >> okay. >> He's got ties the bottom. >> Yeah, he's bound to the feet and ankles. >> Yeah. Just let's make sure he's just not alive. >> He's bound at the wrists and ankles and around the >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Oh, yeah. You can see his face. Okay. >> My uh our ship lieutenant is going to come out. >> What's that? >> Our ship lieutenant's heading out here. >> Okay. >> What do you guys need from us? >> Just your boards, man. >> Yeah. >> Is your FD coming out? >> Yeah, I'll have them. >> I got them coming out. >> Okay. >> So, we'll wait here. Um >> we're right. >> Yeah. The autopsy later revealed that Glenn died inside his own home and had suffered at least 13 blunt force injuries to his body. As the investigation progressed, it was uncovered that Jeffree had been staying at Glenn's house after the two men met at Glenn's workshop. After learning that Jeffrey was homeless, Glenn opened his home to give him a place to stay. However, their relationship slowly deteriorated into constant arguments and an atmosphere of fear with Glenn reporting previous assaults by Jeffrey. Ultimately, what began as an act of kindness ended in one of the most disturbing discoveries the department had ever made. In the end, Jeffree pleaded guilty to secondderee murder and was [music] sentenced to 25 to 50 years in prison with the possibility of parole after serving the minimum term. Up next, we have a case where a routine welfare check on a vehicle escalated into [music] one of the most gruesome discoveries officers would ever make in their careers. >> Hey, stop reaching around. >> Hey, there's someone in the back seat. There's a body in the back. On January 27th, 2022, officers from Porterville, California, received a call about a suspicious person in a rural area, reporting that a man was roaming the area and causing a disturbance. Upon arriving at the scene, officers immediately spotted the suspect's parked vehicle and approached it. But what they found inside turned a routine call into something far more disturbing. >> Hey, stop reaching around. >> Stop. >> Hey, there's someone in the back seat. >> Yeah, there's like legs. >> You tried to get me through on the inside. >> Yeah. Hey, keep your hands up. I have no weapons on. >> There's a body in the back. >> Okay. >> I have no weapons. >> Hey, put your hands up. >> Put your hands up. >> Put your hands up. >> Open. Unlock the door for me. Unlock the door. Unlock the door for me, man. Hey, what's your name, man? Okay. My name is with the sheriff's office, man. Can you please unlock the door? I understand that. But can you please unlock the door? >> Look at my hand. >> Okay. I see your hands. Thank you. Okay. But can I >> can I have you unlock the door for me? >> Okay. >> Okay. Open it. Can you step out for me, please? >> Okay. Don't be reaching around anywhere. That's all I >> don't got nothing, bro. >> I got into cuz I need gas money. >> Okay. Turn around for me, man. >> Yeah. >> Should detain you in handcuffs. All right. >> What's going on today, man? >> I called the police department uh twice, letting them know my dad was trying to get me. He had these people come over to the house straight up. And uh these people were straight up >> secured. >> They were putting um uh they were putting >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> What's wrong with your dad? >> I was taking him to the hospital. >> Okay. What's wrong with him? >> Me and him were struggling over at night. >> Okay. Inside the vehicle, officers found the body of 75-year-old Julio Abuhil, the father of the man at the scene, later identified as 32-year-old Giovanni Abuhil. Giovanni insisted he had been trying to take his father to the hospital, but his [music] erratic behavior suggested that something was deeply wrong. He appeared more focused on defending himself than explaining what had [music] happened to Julio. And the location where he was found raised even more questions. At that moment, what had happened between Giovanni and his father remained unclear, but officers could sense that something was seriously off. >> Just have a seat for me. I'm going to search you for weapons real quick. Okay. Is there anything in that car that I'm going to find that's uh going to hurt my partner? Anything like that? >> Nothing. Nothing. All it is is little pocket knives. >> Any guns, firearms like that? >> It's bull cuz I know how it looks. It looks bad. >> Okay. Do me a favor. Just have a seat for me, man. Okay. Everything's going to be okay. >> Look, I panicked. I told him I was going to go to the other hospital and he says, "Why?" I go, "Dude, cuz if we go to that other hospital, they don't trust me, bro. I I got issues. I I went over there and I've argued with people." >> Julio, calm down for me, man. Okay. >> Oh, this is Oh, no. >> Did Did you hurt your dad? >> Why did that cop in the damn unit? >> Okay. >> Why? I called him twice. I told him to >> Okay. All right. We're going to We're going to help your dad. Okay. >> Please. >> Okay. Where do you live >> on a We both live right there. >> Adrian. >> Yes. >> Is that in Porterville? >> No, it's right here in Bakersfield. >> It's in Bakersfield. >> Yeah. Okay. >> Do you know where you're at right now? >> No. >> You don't know where you're at? >> He was telling me he was all dizzy and he was telling me like, "Look, man." He's like, "Just get me to the damn hospital. I'm sorry what I did. I'm sorry what I did. Get me to the hospital." I go, "Dude, you're to use a knife on me, bro. You got me up." He's like, "Well, you're going to use it on me first. You're crazy." And he goes, "No one's going to believe you because of the and the past and everything." I go, "So what? You're going to do me like that?" I go, "I'll take a damn polygraph if I have to. I don't care." You know? >> All right. Just sit. >> I called the deputies twice. >> Just sit tight for me, Hilly. Okay. >> He's got no pulse that I could feel. If you want to double check, but I I'm not. >> I don't have any rubbers. >> Grab some double check for me. He's a little stiff, too, but I want to >> Okay. So, this is now a crime scene. >> Yeah. >> Okay. because there is a body in that car. Okay. So, if you guys don't mind, um the less tracks and stuff we have throughout this driveway, it would be perfect for us. >> Right here. >> Okay. Perfect. So, what we're going to do is we're going to tape off the entrance over there. Okay. And I'm going to start talking to every one of you guys. Okay. >> Sir, can I go to the station and take the polygraph out? >> Yeah, man. We'll get to that in one second. Okay. >> Okay. Thank you. Because I know this is bad. Once >> I called the I called the police twice and I said, "I'm scared to go back over there, you know. I I walked up to five different neighbors houses." >> Okay? >> I went to five different neighbors houses, >> okay? >> Telling them, "Look, I don't want to walk back over there because he's got these two people over there and these dudes, he he told me to get up in the in the in the attic of the house, like the ventilation, >> and to throw some like acid type." So there's there's like it's like this white powder, you know, and it burns. >> All right. >> Well, so anyways, it's all over the house right now. When you go to our house, >> it's everywhere. And it >> You live in you live in Bakersfield, you said? >> Yeah. >> Okay. And you drove all the way. You know where you know where you're at right now? I don't know if I asked you. >> I got on the freeway and he was talking to me and I was telling him when I was on the freeway talking to him, "Dad, please don't don't get me. Don't say nothing. Don't say I go He goes I go, how the are you still fighting with me? How?" I go, "Just stop." He's like, "No, no, no, no, no." He's like He's like, "You me I'm like I don't I don't want to talk right now. I'm gonna get over." >> Okay, not a problem, man. Hey, so it's going to be a little bit, okay? So, just cooperate with us and we'll get you everything we need. Okay. >> Giovanni's story felt more like a random series of events being thrown together than a coherent account. To verify his version and better understand what had happened that day, officers went to speak with the callers, hoping to piece together the events. A step that would reveal just how distorted Giovani's account truly was. Hello. You're the second caller, correct? >> I'm the first one, I think. >> Okay. What time did you see him pull up? >> I didn't see him pull up. >> Wake me up. >> Oh, he he woke you up. So, do you know about what time that was? >> Yeah, I told my husband awake. It was like 7:48. >> So, he just came banging on the door. What happened? >> Uh, begging for money that he would give me his keys and uh >> Did you answer the door? >> Oh, no. Cuz it has a glass. >> Okay, perfect. cuz I can see where it is cuz nobody nobody uh comes in the knocks like that. >> Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. He said for money, gas, and he offered us keys. >> Yeah. And I said, "I don't have anything. Just go away." And then when I came, I don't know if he grabbed money for my daughter's car because he said, "Thank you." He pulled money from his bucket. He said, "Thank you, sir. Thank you so much." Cuz I know my daughter has money on the car and they were in lock. So, um he said he didn't have no money. He so he pul he was uh going that direction with the gas tank and everything. I go, "Put that away." And he said, "Oh, thank you." And then he pulled out the money from his bucket. >> Okay. So, he was he was reaching for Wait, I'm >> my daughter's car right there. >> Okay. Did Did you see him open the door at all or? >> No, cuz um he was here and then he run over there. >> So, I tried to see what he was doing and I couldn't see nothing. And I saw him walking out with the guest that my husband has for the pressure washer and all the stuff. >> Okay. >> He said, "Thank you. Thank you. Thank you." He pulled out the money, too. >> Okay. >> What happened after he flashed the money at you? >> Um, he started walking down putting the gas trying to put the gas and then I saw my neighbor came out and he went over there and I yell at him that he was already just stole my gas. >> Okay. >> And uh he was over there so he ran over to >> Where did he steal the gas out of? >> My husband has a jug. Oh, he did have >> that we have for >> the lawnmowers. >> The lawnmowers and all that. And he grabbed it from the propane tank where we have propane tank. >> Gotcha. Okay. >> Yeah. >> Cuz he was looking around to see where he could get stuff. >> Okay. >> And that's where he got the bottle. See the jug right there? That's the one. >> Yes. Yeah. That. Okay. >> And he told me he was screaming at my neighbor that I gave it to him as like good gesture. >> With the woman's account, Giovanni's story quickly fell apart. What he had initially claimed to be a call for help was now revealed to be an act of reckless theft. Not only that, but after investigating the vehicle, officers discovered that Julio was already deceased, bearing injuries to his body and surrounded by on the seat. Javanni now had nowhere left to run and no excuse convincing enough to get him out of the situation. >> Sir, how you doing, man? >> I need to tell you something. >> Yeah. What's up? >> So, here's the thing. um the people that um uh were that my dad hooked up with, you know, and did all that um uh straight up uh they were putting like it was like I don't know what it is. It's like this white powder that they got. It's like acid, you know what I mean? >> And uh anyways, they're throwing all over the house. It was burning me and all that. But um uh right now it's on me. You know what I mean? But because of the fact that I had and it's burning me real bad to the point where um it's look at my uh my mouth. >> Okay. We're going to switch cars for a minute. Okay. Is that all right? You want to go? Let's go have a seat in this car. >> Yeah, I can walk cuz of the blood. >> No. Uh, we're just >> I didn't want to even do that. >> I know you guys do want to that. >> I didn't mean to do it on purpose. >> Do me just step out for me, man. That's all. >> We're just going to walk back to that white car over there. Looks exactly like mine. >> I get it. >> I know rocks are hard in your feet. >> I'll hold them. I'm not sure. You should get check today. But I never on anybody s ever legitimately never. >> Okay. Have a seat for me. >> You guys can check the the reports, you know. >> Okay. >> Why don't you guys just check the reports? It'll stay right there on my whole record. You know what I mean? >> Yeah. We'll check the reports. Have a seat for me, man. >> You definitely will do that. >> I get it, you guys. You know, I don't She's just going to stab me. >> It's okay. Relax. >> I should have just let him me, dude. I got the whole police department against me. Everyone hates me, dude. What the was I thinking. Where could I have gone at in the world? Nowhere. There was nowhere I could have went to. Where could I have went to, man? Tell me. Huh? Nowhere. There was nowhere I could have went. That's what I get. Should just call me. Yeah, that's all right. All right. Don't worry about it. I'll be all right. It'll probably just be a couple like >> cold or warm. You okay? >> No, no, no. I know, sir. No, it's all good. >> Are you cold? >> Hey, look. I don't know if you guys are watching it. I don't know if you guys are watching that thing. I don't got cold or nothing. Um uh >> I know, but I got to put my mask on. It's part of the rules. Go ahead. Keep >> Yeah, but sir, I never was going to do nothing to turn in no cop ever. I was never going to write a report. I was doing that cuz I was just being a cat. They wanted me to act like a Jat. That way they could just be like, "Hey, he's a dummy. He's not no threat." They could get their laugh on. They could kick me out early because I was already like man walking with my situation, you know. So, dude, I went along with it. I'm not a real idiot like that. I've been in a J cab before and I was like a Jcat. I never would do that. I have a whole history in jail of being in jail uh uh 16 years. I've never done that ever. Ever. And I've seen some I've been through some and dude I never done that [music] to them ever. I was being a shake cat. I was acting like a [ __ ] cat in there. But dude, I didn't think it was going out of proportion like that. I didn't think they really thought they were going to, you know what I'm saying? Like, up. It was so stupid doing that. I feel so stupid doing that. >> Giovanni appeared to be in the midst of a narcotics induced outburst or a mental breakdown. Anxiety and desperation were clearly consuming him. And although he claimed he had never done anything this serious, records revealed that just one week [music] prior, he had been released from jail after being arrested for assaulting his father. This made it clear that the horrifying crime committed by Giovani was not random, but the result of a deep-seated rage [music] toward his father. a rage that had finally reached its breaking point. >> It so bad doing that. And that's the problem. Like [music] everything I wrote when I wrote those little stupid things down about the guys and like that uh uh uh yeah this guy's on this cell this this and that. It didn't matter. I wrote fantasy journal all that crap. I thought it was like a big old joke. Like I don't know, man. Like I'm by myself in there. Everybody's talking me in the tear. [music] And then I was telling my neighbor, "Look at what I did. I said this, this, and that." And he goes, "That's right, fool. take it all out on paper. The Uso guy was saying that to me next door and I don't know what you know how much you know about my situation but I know you guys know a little bit but dude he told me that like straight up I've never done that and I never will bro but I never going to be believe I understand that I got to deal with it and that's what it is. I'm a little [ __ ] for not being able to um speak right for advocate for myself, right? You know what I mean? And that's been my problem. I haven't had a respect for myself, you know what I mean? And it's what it is, you know what I mean? It's what it is. I up not respecting myself like that. And I beat myself up every day over it. [music] Like, dude, like I get it. Like, you know, it's like I get it. Like, these people so big with me with that rant thing. It's like I was literally willing to [music] end my life, dude, to have um >> it's like this when you are willing to literally you feel so guilty even it's like you know and your dad my dad is telling me like dude like he wants my dad just wanted me to to you know that's what he wanted you know but the thing is this that you know I um he's just he hated Man, heing hated me, dude. You know, you guys know what's going on. He hated me. And he hated me to a passion. Finally, at the end when the guys couldn't kill me inside the house, like the fools that he got to make it happen, fool. Like, I mean, and I understand like he wanted it to end right there, you know? He was expecting to come back into the house, bro. And I understand. And I'm done, you know? And he it's over. But, man, I ran out of the house all [ __ ] with the inhaling in my system, you know what I mean, that they gave me. Um, that's why all sliced up and and um I don't know, bro. Like I told him, let me use the phone. Let me call my uncle to give me a ride to drive me out to LA so I can stay with him because I ain't going to be out here, bro. At least in LA in my own room. Uh, I'm away from everything, you know, straight up right here. I know I'm not away from everything. I know everyone knows, but the thing is this that um I just wanted to leave that situation um uh when I was arguing with him with that. >> Although Giovani claimed that his father hated him, the records told a very different story. They revealed a long criminal history with multiple offenses, including two prior convictions for elder abuse. Unfortunately, those convictions were not enough to stop Giovani from committing the gruesome act he carried out that day. >> Of course, you can't. >> Listen to me. Um I I know you guys hate me, but um >> we don't we don't hate you. We don't even know you. >> I know. >> Okay. >> Um the thing is is that at the um >> I was going to take him to the hospital, right? Okay. >> I was going to take him to the hospital. He was talking to me still. All right. Now, we have to struggle in front of the house. All right. >> We had to struggle in front of the house. >> Okay. Calm down. >> Um uh >> I don't know if it's on film or not. I don't know cuz everything was being like everyone everything. >> Yeah. >> But um uh the thing is this that um >> just relax. You're okay, bud. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Tell you I just know this that um this is crazy. This is crazy. >> Okay. I mean, I there's nothing I can tell you. You know, um when you're so panicked and you're driving, and he was telling me to when I was driving, >> he goes I go, "Let's not put in the baker so well. It's going to be all bad." I go, "This is our >> fix your mask, bud." >> I know. >> Let's keep it on you. Okay. >> I go, "Listen, I go >> keep it on you." >> Yeah. Put that acid on it. >> It don't got acid on it. It's brand new and it's not all wadded up. So, go ahead. You I'm You were talking to us. You want still want to talk to us? Tell us what you're telling us. >> Yes. >> Okay. got um uh when they gave me um I'll meet you halfway. >> When they when they gave me a ride uh earlier uh well no no I'm I'm telling you the wrong situation. This is what happened to me. I was going to give him a ride to the hospital. Okay. >> We went in circles. Okay. Because I >> panicked on the freeway and I didn't exit the right spot. Okay. And then when he wasn't responding to me anymore, I kept driving. Okay. >> Okay. I kept driving because I panicked. Okay. Now, um uh straight up, whatever hospital I was going to end up at, I was going to go in there anyway because all I had was on the side of my chest. I had a sharp pain. >> Mhm. >> And I had a sharp pain in the side of my chest. >> Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. I know. I want to keep this on you, bud. >> Okay. >> Okay. We got to go do some stuff. We'll come back. You need to tell us the rest in a minute. Put no no put your foot inside. >> I've had a sharp pain, but inside of my chest. I need you to put your shirt your foot inside and I'll have an ambulance come and look at you, but you need to put your foot inside. Okay. >> At this point, Giovani once again tried to mislead the officers, but the inconsistencies in his story betrayed him more than he realized. There was nothing left he could say to repair his image in their eyes, and he was now heading toward a harsh fate once more. This time for an irreversible act. >> Hey, man. >> My name's I'm a firefighter. >> I'm here to take care of you. How you doing? All right. >> What's your name, bro? >> Just take the whole thing >> for what? Wait, what? >> Medicate. Can I back into that little driveway for a little bit where that tape is? Can we move your tape? >> Uh, prefer not. What are we backing into? >> That driveway. The end of that circle driveway kind of where my patrol is. I can't see that. >> Dude, you can't get I don't want you injection. You hear me? >> Can I help you feel better, >> bro? You can't give me an injection if I don't want it. You hear me? >> Dude, I'm up right. You know how bad up in the head right now? >> Hey, Jill. >> Dude. >> Hey, Jill. Listen to me, man. Just Just sit back for me, okay? >> Dude, come on. Go. >> I'm I'm We're not you, man. >> Stop here for a second, >> bro. I'm up in a Dude, I'm up in the head already, bro. Leave me alone. I'm already off. >> Yeah, we're going to help you though. You can't make me >> Hey, relax, man. >> Why are you making me get an injection? >> It's to help you, man. >> I don't need it, though. >> That's all. It's just >> Dude, I don't need it. They just >> It's just to help you. It's not going to hurt you at all. >> I don't even know what's going on myself anymore. Stop doing that. Come on. Leave me alone, bro. Please don't worry really bad. You don't know how bad it is. Just do it. >> Come on, dude. You don't know how bad it is already. >> Okay, lay flat on your back. Do you want >> I thought he was my family member. I don't even know him. I'm already losing my mind. Please stop, dude. It's not right. >> Come on, bro. Stop it already, bro. Why are you guys doing this to me, bro? Come on, bro. That's a full needle. It's >> tiny, >> dude. Stop it. Get off of me, bro. Stop. Stop. Giovanni and his father had lived together for several years, forming a deeply troubled relationship marked by anger on one side and fear on the other. The charges Giovanni had faced in the past did not change his behavior toward his father, and the time he spent in prison was not enough to save Julio. The autopsy later revealed that Julio had suffered four wounds to the neck and one to the eye, along with defensive wounds to his hands. In the end, Giovani pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and felony elder mistreatment and [music] was sentenced to a minimum of 56 years in prison before becoming eligible for parole. That case was deeply unsettling, [music] but the next one takes things even further as a welfare check on a family escalated into a twisted investigation that revealed how far rage can drive a person. >> Oh. Oh, God. Dogs. [music] Two dogs. >> I need more units here. >> I got do you have anything to do with this? >> Okay. On September 17th, 2023, officers received a call from a desperate mom worried about her missing daughter. According to the woman, her daughter Zorida Bartle and her husband weren't answering any of her messages. Concerned about the family's well-being, she asked the police to conduct a welfare check. >> Lairway Communications. How can I help you? >> Yes, please. I'm calling for my daughter, Sida Bdome. She lives at 512 Concord Avenue, Romeoville, Illinois. And we haven't heard from her or her husband or her children during the whole day. No answering the phone if somebody can go by the house and check them cuz the husband they call from his work that he didn't show up to work and he never, you know, he's always at work. >> Okay, give me one second. >> Thank you. >> Officers were dispatched to the house in Romeoville to check on the family. Upon arrival, they noticed the home was alarmingly quiet with no clear signs of anyone inside. While searching the house, they were met with a disturbing scene, one [music] that made it immediately clear this wouldn't be a routine welfare check. Thanks for coming. Hey, >> get on the phone with the 17 and call and figure out more information on this call. >> Hey, I got a TV knocked over and a coffee table knocked over. >> No, we're going to go on that side. There's a gate over there. >> He's going really far to get the number. >> All right. You see the TV in the uh >> Hey, hold on. You look on this window. Boy, I could see anything in there. >> Nothing. >> Yeah, we'll see. Oh, that's [ __ ] Let's go see this in the back. A window, right? >> Two windows. >> Yeah. I'll go this way. >> This one alone. No, it's not. >> Uh oh. Oh, god. Dogs are dead. Two dead dogs. >> I need more units here. >> More units here. >> Hold this. >> Officers found two deceased dogs inside the home, immediately raising red flags and deepening their concern about the family's fate. As the search went on, officers moved toward the back door. The moment they stepped inside, they were confronted with a scene more disturbing than anything they had ever witnessed. >> Hey, open the trunk. >> Units from 367. I'm waiting for at least one more to make entry. to the front of the back hole. >> We'll do back 50. Do you have a ram9? >> Hey, no, no, you're behind me. Okay. left. There's a second dead dog. >> You stay in the back of the stack. You watch our six as we move through the house. Okay. >> Cory, come up here. Cover this door. This window. >> Got it. >> This lights is dead. >> No, I got one. I got one. >> Check the door >> here. Cover the window. What do you see, Cory? >> Boom. Move up. Move up. Nothing. >> How many How many dead dogs you got? >> We got one dead dog right here. We got a second dead dog over to the left. >> All right. Watch out. Watch out. >> Hey, why don't you check the door handle first before we hold on? Hold on. This form 3503 traffic 1033 traffic me >> making entry 33 traffic only car around guard. >> Once inside officers were met with a harrowing scene. They found Alberto Roland Zorida's husband lying face up in a pool of [music] with gunshot wounds to the head. In another room lay Zorida Bartal brutally attacked. Nearby were the bodies of the couple's two children. The sheer horror of the scene pushed officers into a deeper investigation. As they looked into the case, evidence found on the couple's phone led investigators to the home of a couple identified as Melinda Palomo and Nathaniel Huey. Until then, the only known connection between the two households had been Zorida's affair with Huie. At their home, officers began questioning Melinda, hoping to uncover more about the tragic [music] events that had unfolded. >> Hello. >> Hello. >> Hi, Melinda. My name is Detective Garcia. >> Hello. >> From the Romeo Police Department. This is Detective Wagner. >> Hello. >> I know you know what's going on and why you were here. Okay. Um I know you were talking on the phone with your husband right now. >> Husband and boyfriend? >> Okay. Does he live here with you? >> How long you guys been together? >> 2015. >> Okay. We're investigating a murder. Okay. >> So, we have in our possession some phones, okay? And in those phones, we're doing what it's called the phone dump. So, what happens is if anybody's talking on a text app that you can download, for example, text now, we can retrieve those messages. >> Okay? >> We have retrieved those messages. All right? We've read them. We're pretty clear that somebody's pretty upset at at um at the victim. Okay. Is there any way that these [music] text messages are going to come back to you or your name or your phone or anything associated with that? Okay. We'd like to speak with you in present. Are you okay with that? >> Sure. Do you want me to walk away? >> Wherever you're comfortable. Wherever you're comfortable. Right. >> Oh, yeah. But we're out front or we're in the house in the backyard, right? I'm not saying go out. I'm not saying go in the house, but we can talk with you out over here. You okay with that? We can go over by my car if you'd like. >> Okay. >> Huie seemed particularly unsettled about Linda talking to the officers and insisted they continue the conversation out on the patio. Still, the officers wanted to speak with her in private. They walked Emmerinda to their car and began questioning her, pressing her for any detail that could give them a clue about what had happened that night. You guys can sit in my car. >> Are you comfortable talking here? >> Why don't we go in the car? >> We can go in the car. >> You're an adult. >> None of the neighbors are going to be in the car. [clears throat] You're safe with us. >> No, you can have a seat in the front passenger. It's all I want him to come out. Mmalina, do you mind if we walk if we drive down the street? If he comes out, he's probably going to tell you to go back inside. Are you going to do that or what do you want to do? >> Well, you guys obviously have me. You can't really say much, right? Well, it's it's what what we we want to talk to you alone, separate from him. That that's what we're trying >> to make sure that you're safe. >> Okay. Can you go by the park? >> Sure. >> Okay. Down that way. >> Okay. Um, do you want to What I'm going to do is I just got to document mileage and stuff. Okay. Everything's We got body cams on. Just tell me where we're going. Want to text you. Officers drove Emmer Linda to the park, asking her about her relationship with Huey and the family. >> Yeah. >> How long have you known Hueie? >> Since probably 2015. >> Okay. Why are you scared of him? >> Oh, I'm not scared. Well, >> okay. Why are you scared right now? >> Because when I called him because I was scared. I didn't know where he was. >> He said someone's following me. >> Okay. So I called and I called and then I heard him say, "Why are you following me? Do you want to search the car?" And then and then someone said to him, "There are messages from you and it's because her husband found out you were having an affair." And I didn't know that. >> You didn't know what? >> That he was having an affair. >> Okay. >> When did you find that out? Right now? >> Yes. Right now. >> Okay. When's the last time that he had an affair? >> Cuz I know this is not the first time. >> No, it's not. >> Okay. >> When's the last time you knew he had an affair? >> When we first started dating? >> 2015. >> 2015 to maybe 17. You know what? His son was born and he said, "I'm not having any more affairs. I'm not cheating on you." >> Okay. stupidly. Okay. >> Do I know if he stopped? >> No, I don't know. >> Okay. So, the last time you >> Well, hold on. >> So, then I had a party at my house. >> Mhm. >> And I fell asleep [music] and apparently he said someone kissed him and that was thought. So, I don't know, maybe it was 2019. >> Okay. >> And he said, "No, she kissed me." And that was it. Come on. We're all drunk. >> You know him better than we do. So >> anyways, >> Emerinda believed her poor me story would be enough to take her off the police's radar. But little did she know, investigators had already recovered messages from her texting apps and uncovered her entire plan. Driven by years of jealousy and resentment toward her boyfriend's affair, Emmerinda devised a plan to take Zorida's life. Romeoville investigators discovered that for years Palomo had manipulated her fiance into believing he worked for a drug cartel and that Zorida Baralame was a spy who needed to be eliminated along with her family. Through text messages, the fake cartel member and Huie then began planning the following the evidence, investigators met Huie at his workplace, hoping to access his phone to determine his innocence. But their encounter with him raised immediate concern as he showed a visibly anxious demeanor. >> We were talking with the the bosses and they said, "Well, we already went through phones. They already got one half of of of the conversation." Um, and you said you talked to her on your phone, right? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Um, so what we'd like or what we're asking for is consent to to get the text messages off your phone between you and her to Snapchat or whatever it is between her. So we have both sides of it. We're trying to eliminate you as a suspect, but >> still on the computer, right? >> H, >> you can get it out of the computer. >> No, we have to take the phone, we plug it in, we take it out, and we give your phone back. >> Oh, I mean, I have anything in there. >> That's even better. >> No, I I believe you, [music] but Well, yeah. I mean, just let me see. >> But I mean, I believe you. It's just the problem is is that that that is all I have right there from anything back. >> Oh, this from this morning? >> Yeah. Everything else or you have to grab it from the from the computer? >> Well, I mean, it'll be on there. be on your phone, you never deleted >> still in the in the in the thing >> in the >> in the catch. >> When you delete stuff, it's never actually. >> So, let's just say you have like a 64 gig phone, you use about 58 of it. The rest is the catch. It stays in the catch. And and why I asked is is the boss's call right away. They were like, "Well," they're like, "Um, we'd like to see if we can get the the stuff, you know, from your end back that way and see if maybe your, you know, maybe your husband got wind of it [music] and pulled it off or something." So, we just want to take a look. I mean it it on our on our side of it, we can get a search warrant, [music] you know, to go through the phone and take a little longer, but on on the fastest way would be consent. Pull it off and give your phone back than it would be to and again I explained to you earlier, I'm trying to eliminate you. >> Yeah. I mean, we have a a deceased girl and her last [music] fling or boyfriend or whatever is you and and I'm sure that that you know if if you're an outsider looking [music] in, who do you who's your suspect? I mean, and so I'd like to eliminate that. I'd like to say, well, no, we went we looked through stuff. He didn't have nothing to do with it. We're done with it. I'd rather you guys just go on the computer. >> I agree with you. But but again, there's um [music] it it takes it would take us, you know, a couple hours to pull information off the phone that could eliminate you as a suspect. Like right from the [music] start, it's up to you. >> Just just go on the computer, chief. I don't I'm going to give up my phone. You know what I'm saying? >> I understand. I'm just telling you it's >> like I I I completely understand what you're saying. And I'm not even trying to give you guys a hard time, but like taking my phone and all that. Like, how about this? How about I come see you guys later today after work or something like that? Cuz I I got in there that I don't necessarily want you to be like looking at. You know what I'm saying? >> But But again, we >> And I promise you, I don't care what you look at. >> No, no, no. That's not like not like like freak like that or anything like that. >> Well, I'm saying we we even if even if we Yeah. I mean, if you again, I'm asking for consent. The consent means that that that we plug it right in. We dump it because you've told us it's okay. Without that, then we have to get a search warrant. If we get a search warrant, then we have to type that up and it's going to take longer. >> I can bring it down to you guys. You can dump it all you want to. We're cool with that. Huie agreed to provide DNA samples through a cheek swab. Later, he went to the police station where officers seized his phone to search for more evidence. Although he had deleted all the incriminating messages, investigators were still able to recover the conversations detailing the orchestrated plan. While waiting to gather more information from Huie, investigators [music] pressed him for his side of the story, but his nonsense only made things worse for him. >> I got to ask, do you have anything to do with this? >> No. >> Okay. You know, I have to ask. and you know that your number is going to be in her phone and we're going to find your text messages and we're going to find that stuff and and I want to get a surprise later on [music] >> that you guys are fighting or that there was something going on between you two or just three of you that I don't know about you know >> nothing like that nobody was threatening anybody weren't fighting like really like an angel you know what I'm saying >> okay so We we you know we're this is so new to us uh investigation wise we have tons of videos to go through and license plates readers and like text messages Snapchat messages and all that stuff. So, we're so it's so in the beginning of this investigation that we're just kind of reaching out to talk to all her family, friends, and everybody like that. And that's that's why we're here talking to you. And um I just hope I mean, in your head, if you could think of something like, "Oh, you guys should know about this, it's the time to tell us now before we find it later on, you know, in a computer or we find it in a phone message or something." Really, guys? Um yeah, I mean, obviously, we're going to stay in touch with you. Um, I'd ask, you know, a couple more questions. Might be a little hard for you, but uh, are you willing to take a polygraph test if ever needed, >> I guess. >> And then DNA, you know, swab in your mouth if if needed. I'm asking this stuff now. I mean, we we again, these one of those things where if if in the future we needed it, I could go to a judge and say, you know, this is why I believe I need it and get a warrant for it. But I always ask people I ask people straight up, right? Because you know most people in kind of the high are like >> No. Yeah. I mean I never this is just some that I never >> never thought of. I'd be >> I doubt you'd be in the middle of that. Exactly. But you you can see how like you're not the only person we're talk to and we're talk to lots of people and we talk lots of family members. We're going to talk to neighbors. We talk to a ton of people. But we're starting off with the people closest to her and we're here that's why we're here talking to you, you know, her family and you. Um and and so I ask these questions because yeah later on if if uh we able to come up with like a DNA sample of something I am going to ask everybody who she knows if they were willing to give up a DNA swab so that I can eliminate them right away. If I eliminate you right away we don't have to keep coming down or bothering you. I don't have to bother you home. Why don't you know we're we're done with you. We don't have to call you anymore. Stuff like >> Yeah. like and I don't even think like her family knew anything about us. >> Well, I can tell you right now we're sitting here in this office talking to you. Somebody knew. >> Oh, okay. >> We We wouldn't be here talking to you. >> But >> I didn't I didn't think that she was talking like to any family like that at all. >> Well, um I think they're done. Uh, I'll give you my card. Give me my card. Um, if you think you get something, give me a call. If if like when you're back at work, you know, back there, you're working and an employee comes up to you and goes, "Hey, man. Uh, I heard this or I heard that, just give me a call and let me know what you heard." I mean, we're asking for your help and I'm asking I'm sure you would like to see this >> get solved just like us. You know what I mean? >> Yeah. is like I'm pretty angry. >> Yeah. >> This I I like I said, nothing against my wife, man, but like this, you know, different a different connection with someone. >> Yeah. >> You know, it I just felt like really strong. You know what I'm saying? >> Yeah. And you're right. you'd be better off here at work, you know, working and keeping your mind off it than sitting at home and dealing with, you know, just sitting there alone or with her thinking about this. So, >> yeah. >> All right. Well, thank you. >> After investigators examined the data on Huie's phone, a chilling picture emerged. 2 days before [music] the Huey and Emerinda's fictional persona had already mapped out the plan to kill the entire family. They scouted the neighborhood, monitored the house, and noted the empty house behind Zorida's home. Convinced he was following cartel orders, Huie carried out the while Palomo stayed in the car. Three days later, Emerinda's family reported her missing. Huie soon confessed to his mother his participation in order. On September 20th, surveillance footage captured them at Walmart, laughing and unaware that police were waiting. As officers approached, the SUV sped off, slammed into another vehicle, and crashed into a concrete median, erupting into flames. Car's on fire. Get out of the car. [screaming] What's your What's your background? >> Get out of the vehicle. Get out. There you go. >> Yeah. You want to go in? Let's go. >> Yes. On your right. To your right behind you. I got door. Do not see movement. No movement. Get out. Get out. Get out. >> Get out. Get out. >> Get out now. >> Come out now. >> I don't see anything. Got your cover. Cover. Got it. Got it. >> Nothing. Floorboard. Floorboard. Get her. Got cover. Got cover. Grab the belt. Grab the belt. Grab the belt. >> You got that door. >> Can't see. >> Can't see. >> Where's fire? >> Fire extinguisher at least. Fire. We need extinguisher >> behind you. >> I got driver door. moving to your left. Go ahead. According to police, two gunshots were heard. Nathaniel was found deceased inside the car [music] with fatal injuries to his head. Her Melinda, who had been struck by her boyfriend, was still alive when officers pulled her from the vehicle, but passed away on the way to the hospital. Up next, we have a case where what began as a routine welfare check on a mother and her baby spiraled into a gruesome discovery at a lake. >> I saw the bathroom door was closed, so I pushed the bathroom door open. That's when she's laying on the floor face down with her shorts down past her buttocks. >> I'm assuming it is. >> They say they saw something in the mouth of the gears. On March 29th, 2023, officers in Dell Holmes Park, Florida, were called to an apartment after relatives reported that 20-year-old Passion Jeffrey and her 2-year-old son Tailon [music] were missing. Nobody knew at the time, but what started as a routine welfare check quickly turned into something far from ordinary. >> She named God. >> Yesterday was our baby dad, Thomas. It was his birthday. >> Do you know if they were drinking or anything? >> I just know they were smoking. >> Smoking? Yeah, cuz I I I smoked with him yesterday and while he opened up his gifts and um they were sitting there on the count. >> It had all begun the night before a birthday party for 21-year-old Thomas Mosley, Pashon's partner. The family had gathered to celebrate and everything seemed normal. But within 24 hours, the family's mood shifted brutally [music] when no one had heard from Pashin or Tailon, something deeply unusual. Concerned, they asked a maintenance worker to check on the apartment. But what [music] he and the responding officer discovered would turn anyone's stomach. >> Just hang out for me. Right. You're going to have to stay around. I know it's unfortunate, but I need you to stay here. Just stay with this officer. >> Okay. No problem. >> All right. Thank you, >> officer. >> Yeah. >> There was supposed to be a baby there. We're working. We're tracking. We're working. >> Okay. Thank you. >> All right. >> What did you see when you went up there? >> Well, there's blood and bloody footprints all over the apartment. >> Yeah, I saw that. >> When I went to towards the bedroom cuz I was my concern was the kid and her safety. That's I saw the bathroom door was closed. So I pushed the bathroom door open. That's when she's laying on the floor face down where her shorts are down past her buttocks. Her blouse is up to her neck and she has a hold about the size of a of a silver doll on the left side of her skull between the ear and the skull. Right about here. >> Walked into the apartment. What did you see like when you were you walking through it? >> Yeah. um small splatters on different items on the wall coming closer to the bathroom coming out of the bathroom as well through the slider. >> Okay. The sliding door. >> Yeah. Slider. >> Yeah. >> And after that, I mean, I really couldn't believe that they went anywhere else. >> Um >> I didn't go into the bathroom. I went to the front of the bathroom and I could see the knife injuries. So, >> where were the injuries? >> Uh, I saw across the uh left eye >> and several cuts of stab wounds across the back. >> Did you see any of anything else like any children, any uh dogs? >> Okay. >> And I didn't look back out. >> Yeah, absolutely. Um, what was the position of the body when you saw it? >> Uh, face partially uh I can't tell you where down the back. >> Okay. >> Inside the apartment, officers found the lifeless body of Passion lying in a pool of The autopsy would later reveal that she had been attacked with a knife more than a hundred times. When police arrived, the apartment was steeped in chaos, smeared across surfaces and footprints trailing from the bathroom, but Talon was nowhere to be found. A chilling silence hung in the air. And with every step inside, it became clear this was no simple welfare check. >> And you related to to what address? What address you talking about? >> The woman in what apartment? >> I don't know. You did you called it in? Did you just >> How did you get the address? >> I didn't have the address. cuz I know she stayed there for her car. And that's her car right there. >> Yes, her car. Which car is that? That blue car right there is her car. And who is that? The owner of that car is who? >> Passion Jeffers. >> Okay. Who is she to you? >> That's my nephew's mom. >> Your nephew's mom. And who? And she's your Who is she? >> My grandfather. >> Yeah. You're the grandfather. >> The baby? Yeah. >> Okay. >> 60. Charlie. I'm 1012 with the grandfather. The the baby. And where's the baby at now? You know. >> Is he up there? I don't know >> what is it. >> Okay, they're in there now. So, don't let us know. >> That alarm head over there. >> Okay. >> I don't know. So, I can't tell you anything that I don't know. I got here just just before you. I was just putting up those signs. >> Okay. Her mom is on the way. >> Her mother. >> Does she have the baby with her or no? >> No. No, she doesn't. >> They came to our house looking for these two and I didn't know what was going on, so I was worried. Officers traced a vehicle back to the apartment, the home of Pashan Jeffrey. Outside, her family waited in growing panic, unsure if the child was even alive. Inside, what [music] the maintenance worker had already discovered was a scene straight out of a horror movie. They saying it's this house here. >> They saying that the grandfather's here with the with his son, and they said they came to do a welfare check >> and the baby should be with the mother. So, they don't know. Did we did we search for a baby? Do we hear a baby crying or anything? here, baby. >> Where's the maintenance man? >> The maintenance man's back here. I got his name. >> That's him. We need to make sure he doesn't leave. >> Yeah, we need to hold on to him. >> Okay. I got his ID. He apparently I think he lives in this gun complex. >> No footprints. So, I walked around them and I took my finger and when I pushed the bathroom window of the bathroom door open, >> that's when I saw her on the ground. >> Did you hear a child? Did you hear anything? >> I tried to look for the kid. I tried to do a quick look through the bedroom and and behind the sofas and I didn't see nothing. >> Was the front door open or did you open it? >> No, I opened it. >> You had to open it with the key? >> Uh, I put the key in and turned it. Now, if it was open, I don't know cuz I was so >> But I didn't realize that. I put my hand on the right and the door knob is full 12 complaint. >> I'm assuming the door was locked because the guarantor was on property. >> Yeah. And she was banging on the door and lady from underneath her >> fingerprints. Yeah. 1051. >> The neighbor downstairs, the neighbor downstairs said that she heard last night a bunch of screaming >> and door slamming and the baby >> crying. Weapons. >> Did you come in and do a wellness check with him? >> Oh, did you? >> I literally put my head in like this. >> Okay. I just need you got an identification on you. >> Thank you. >> Family members scrambled desperate for answers. The grandfather explained they had come searching for both Pashon and little Tyenne. But what officers had found inside was too horrific to tell the family right away as even they were still in shock. >> You didn't touch the body or anything? >> No, I didn't touch the body or anything. As soon as I looked at it, you can tell she's gone. She has a on the left hand side of her >> on the left hand side. >> She's face down. Her pants are down past her her buttocks >> and her blouse is up to her. >> Weird. You mean to go back or no? >> What did you see when you went up there? And you didn't see any signs of the child, right? >> No. I tried as I was backing out, I tried to look around the apartment. I looked I did walk into the room, looked around the side of the bed, and I backed out of the apartment. And as I was walking out, I tried to look behind the sofa, but I didn't want, you know, too much in there. >> Mhm. >> So, I walked right out the door, but I didn't see anything. I didn't hear any any any noise coming from the baby. They told me that the that the boyfriend is in the hospital. >> Yeah. Well, we're trying to make contact with them and see what's going on. >> And the neighbor downstairs stated that she heard them yelling and screaming last. >> Are you a Hispanic male? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> It just don't look right. >> It doesn't look right. Okay. But we're still gathering information. Okay. And we're still trying to figure out everything that's going on. So, I don't want to give you information that isn't correct. Okay. >> Y'all been in? >> They've been in, but they're still they're still trying to figure out everything that's going on. Okay. We want to make sure that all the people that are there are the people that they're supposed to be. Okay. Mhm.
