I need you to be calm for your kids. >> I used to smoke this. I don't want my kids to pass by the same me. Okay, >> take >> some parents think they can hide their awful acts behind closed doors. But what happens when DCF finally gets involved to expose their lies? >> She keep on messing with me every single time and she keep on being crazy. >> So you guys are >> completely okay. She's having a meltdown. 27. >> These were the moments when evil parents finally got exposed by the DCF. We begin with the case of a young individual whose own family turned a viral video into a weapon against them, unaware it would come back to haunt every one of them. >> I was in the car talking to him. I told him, "I'm a real bad bitch." And my brother pulled me out the car was like, "Oh, you real bad." And all this other. So he wrote Gay on the side of my head, push my back. >> Wait, Clippers. >> Yes. On June 18th, [music] 2021, officers from the Atlanta Police Department responded to a residence after a viral video involving a young individual sparked outrage, which led to a wave of calls to police. What officers found waiting for them at the door was only the beginning of what still needed to unfold that night. >> Hey guys. >> Hello. >> Which room is Tyler staying in? >> Huh? >> Which room is Tyler staying in? >> I'm Tyler's mom. >> Tyler's gone. Where's Tyler, man? >> Tyler's gone with my time. >> Okay. Okay. Tyler back. >> Okay. >> All right. What's going on? >> G is here to take him. Okay. >> Take who? >> They have they have a word from from a judge. Okay. >> Okay. It's only temporary. >> Am I going to jail? >> No. Okay. >> No. We're just We This is what This is the Okay. >> Yes, sir. Y'all got to bring Tyler back. Jordan, they want Tyler. >> Y'all got to bring him back. Okay. >> Everybody take a deep breath. Don't be Don't be in trouble. >> Okay. What we got to do tonight? >> Yes, sir. >> All right. Everything's all right. >> Okay. >> You're Britney? >> Yes, ma'am. >> I'm starting to fly. Okay. Okay. >> Okay. I know an officer came back for a period earlier tonight >> just cuz we were getting tons of calls about all this. You [snorts] know this made pretty good news. Okay. >> Yes. >> You have to we have to do a certain process. Okay. >> So that is that Tyler's going to go with defects tonight. He's going to have an interview in the morning. After that they'll make decision as far as returning. I'm sure he will be returned at some point. Okay. Yes sir. >> This is temporary. As far as know right now, >> you know, we're going to have to speak to you at some point but at this point right now we just need Tyler to go with them. That's the judge has already decided this. Okay. Yes, sir. >> And that's I appreciate your cooperation and like I said, you're not in trouble right now. >> Okay. >> I don't know who's out front. Give me a little bit of guff, but >> Okay. >> Okay. >> So, but like I said, you know, it is what it is. All right. So, okay. >> They they don't know where. >> If you want to come talk to Dex coming out. He's in the green shirt. >> Yes. >> Just talk to him real quick. >> I appreciate that. T's with Jordan, I believe. >> Yeah. He's with my oldest son. >> And Jordan is Jordan going to come on back? >> Yeah. Yeah. They're coming back. >> Thank you. At the scene, officers explained to the mother, later identified as Britney Mills, that a judge had ordered her son removed from her custody. But it was her own reaction to the news that told officers far more than the decision itself. >> Do you have my number? >> Yeah. Y'all going to take my baby and not take get my number? >> Pretty sure we got it. But yeah, sure. We got it. >> Oh, yeah. Yeah. I forgot the police facts. He hasn't been on his medication. I just got him back from my uncle's house in Carolina. That's what he was doing in a couture. And um he forgot the one that makes him sleep because he doesn't sleep. He's up and he's into things. >> Yes. Yes. And he's allergic to cashews. Yes. He knows the school name is in I think I want to say Redcliff. >> Mhm. >> Yeah. In Carolina, South Carolina Beach Island. >> Is that where he's going to be in? >> Well, he was supposed to be right with my uncle. So there was there was a an outrage essentially that that he's has some sort of sexual contact with minors that >> Oh yeah, my nephew that that stays with my No, that was in Carolina. Yeah, that's when I had him in Carolina. >> Beach Island. Beach Island, South Carolina. Yes. Yes his name. >> And that's when he was he told me that they did things with each other and the defense people know about that too because she contacted me while he was there and things were going on there. So that's when I went and got him and brought him back and he's still doing the same thing, you know, and that's the only reason why my son did it. We was just trying to show up to teach him a lesson. You know, you know how brothers chastise each other, but he told my son go home. My son is 18 years old. He just graduated high school last year. Okay? So you can't talk to your big brother like that. You can't say these type of things. So you can't do these type of things in front of your siblings. It's it's not appropriate. And that's why I told you if you want to be care what you want to be. My thing is as long as I'm taking care of you, you're not going to be tooting your blood out and groping yourself in front of your siblings. You got to show me respect and I only show self respect. You can be whatever you want to removing them from you. It's basically it's basically getting the help you need to get women. >> Right. Right. Get straight if you need medication and we can figure that out. >> Yes, sir. >> So, this is just unfortunately and I'm grateful and I'm thankful the way it came out and sometimes sometimes it's a blessing. >> Yeah, it is. Yes, it's a blessing. >> As Mills tried to justify the attack to investigators, she pointed to unrelated accusations involving another family member entirely. Deflecting from the video everyone had already seen. Officers weren't there for excuses as the 12-year-old son Tyler was about to get his own chance to speak. >> His dad is not in his life. his dad had nothing to do with him. So, you know, he's very emotional guy, you know. >> I have eight five boys, three girls. >> My other three are in Florida because of Tyler. What? I love you too, Tyler. And this is not my choice. Okay. They just they just doing this for right now to till things calm down. You know, all that's been going on, all these threats, all all this stuff. They just taking you They just taking you to talk to you to to know what happened and all of that. Okay, stop crying. Huh? They just going to help you. So you get back on your medicine and get right. Okay. All right. Stop crying. All right. I see you. My oldest son escaped. My mom ain't going to lock me up. Is it >> that you want to get outside in the house? You want any person that belongs? Anything? with everything in his bag. >> Mom got you everything. >> I love you, Tyler. >> You good? >> Yeah. >> Excellent. Thanks, guys. Appreciate you. >> Once safely removed from the home, Tyler sat down with the department's LGBT liaison to finally tell the full story behind the video everyone online had already seen. What came out in that conversation went far beyond what the footage alone had shown. >> Spo King, Atlanta Police Department. I'm the LGBT liaison and I'm here with the Tai aka Taiisha. So tell me tell me what happened. >> So basically what mother happened was okay so that day okay I told my brother I was like oh you need to go suck a dick on something or whatever. I was like eat your own auntie I climb mount on your stairs a whole lot. So he wrote Gay on the side of my head, please my back with >> clippers. >> Yes. >> Okay. So he cut the words on the side of your head and then >> Mhm. >> cut your hairline. Did your hairline grow back? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> That's embarrassing. But yeah, >> what's embarrassing? >> My hairline. I need some hair. >> It's back though. >> I know. >> During that, who your brother was? Which one? >> The one in the white tea. >> In the white t-shirt. He had dreads on. >> Yes, that's all. >> Okay. My mama was like, "Um, so you a bad No, cuz I when I was in the car talking to famous guy, I'm a big celebrity him." I was in the car talking to him with him and I told her, "I'm a real bad." And my brother pulled me out the car was like, "Oh, you real bad." And all this and all this other [ __ ] But before that, >> is that when they started recording? >> Yes. Well, they was recording when I was shaking my ass and stuff and doing what I want to do. But they were supporting me when I was doing all that. My own sister was like, "Shake that and all that." Y'all want to talk about some, "Oh, we don't support that." But like, what's the problem? >> What do you think happened? It made them like flip the switch. >> I don't know. Like, I felt like, >> was it you out your brother? >> Yes. >> And then it was him. Okay. >> So, that was also make him upset. And when he worked on the side of my head, he thought I was going to be [ __ ] I'm not going to be upset. I'm not even gay. I'm trans. >> You should be upset. your hairline is still a little >> but you know but the good thing at your age hair grows back at my age it it is what it is which is fine >> so your mom was talking in the video >> Mhm. And the girl that was holding the camera her name is Lilas and she lives in Douglasville put this all down here since this want to do this and that. >> You about to put eye shadow on your face. >> We going to get you um do me a favor when you so we can find you actually what color you need. >> Mhm. I'm brown skin by me. No, no. We going to have somebody match your match your complexion to give you what you need so that way when you put it on your face, it don't all go down on your shirt. >> Yes. >> Tyler explained that an argument had escalated into what happened. But as officers listened closely, it became clear that Tyler's account raised far more questions than it answered. >> So your mom was there, >> brother? >> Your brother. >> Okay. >> And then throwback jersey. >> Okay. You said who had a throwback jersey on? >> That man. >> Who is that man? Your mama got a boyfriend? >> Not anymore. >> Okay. [music] Does your brother got a girlfriend? >> Yes. The one that was recording. >> So your So your mom is friends with your brother's girlfriend. >> They're more like sister and brother. I don't know how the up, >> but they're close. Okay. >> Okay. How old is your brother? >> 18. >> Oh. >> So he's illegal to go to jail. >> Okay. >> But I don't think they going to press charges or whatever. >> So question. Who is Who is this? >> That's my mama. This one is your mom. >> And who is that one? >> Look, she's so cute. >> That is >> the one that was recording. >> One that recording is your brother's girlfriend. How long have you How long has she been around? >> For a long time. >> What's a long time? >> Wait a minute. That's the picture of um her when we was in Florida. >> How long ago was that? >> I took that picture. That was um a few before I came in care. That was like a few weeks ago. So, we was just in Florida and I was doing the same. So, I don't understand. >> But she's been around for how long have her and her your brother been dating? [music] >> Ever since they was born, I guess. So, >> for a long time. So, she been around. >> My mama knew her. My mama go out with her brother. Used to go out with her brother. >> E. Okay. Okay. >> That's the picture my mama got on her license. How the y'all get that? >> We the police. >> And how y'all get that picture of her? That picture was on Instagram. Y'all some mother. >> Yeah. You know, everything that gets posted online is public knowledge. >> So, we never delete. >> You know what I'm saying? So, anything you post online, it is is going to be online. So, like, think about that before. You know what I'm saying? You six year old, you you know, your videos of you being six and twerking. When you get 20, that stuff's still going to be online. >> And let me tell you, who stop posting my >> You don't have a choice when you post it. You don't have a choice. It ain't yours no more. It belongs to Instagram or wherever you post it. >> So they can like put down my >> Yeah. >> Tyler went on to identify everyone present during the incident, revealing a tangled web of family relationships that only deepened the officer's concerns. Despite everything, Tyler still hesitated to name what he was going through. A moment that said as much about the family as anything caught on camera. >> So what happened after they posted that video >> of him hitting them? Yeah, cuz then you cuz I I know I saw another video another video of you with some girls. >> Mhm. >> And then there was a video of you kind of I forgot you you were like saying like it was okay. You remember that video? >> Mhm. >> Tell me what happened with that cuz that's what that's what we were talking about. Um normalizing what happened, right? Cuz now we know that that's not normal. You know what happened to you is not normal. It's not normal or is it acceptable or right? >> Okay. I know it's not acceptable. I know >> cuz this is what we want right now. You smiling and feeling comfortable as you are. >> I know it was wrong what they did to me. I know that was but it was definitely not. But let me tell the thing >> you said it was definitely not what >> what's what's your definition of a >> is getting with a st like my mama did. My mama told us that is when somebody with a st and all. My mom don't even want her kids for real. >> Okay. You know that there there are like a few different types of Yeah. Yeah. It's not just one. >> But after the fact of the video of him, he apologized too. >> And the next day we went out to the ferris wheel and whatever. That's when I came cuz the fart he said he >> you said the next day y'all went where? >> To the ferris wheel. That's when I met. >> But yeah. >> And that's when you came in the care. >> Mhm. >> So the video got posted the following day. >> Mhm. Y'all went to the ferris wheel and then >> we took pictures. All of us took pictures. I took pictures and posted them on my Instagram >> and after that you came in the care. >> Yes. I came back home with defense and all them was at my house. >> Okay. And why did that happen? >> Cuz of this that they posted. >> But but but like but like what did I just say? Right. [music] If stuff get posted, it's going to constantly just keep, you know, >> recirculating. >> Just like I told her, just like I told y'all mad at me, but I didn't even do Who told you? Who told you to [ __ ] to put that on them? >> We could have went and did that. >> You said you said you didn't do anything, but that was simply somebody had a problem with you being who you are. >> Exactly. He don't understand. >> So, I just want you to understand. I want you also understand that there [music] is no problem with you being who you are. >> That feels really good. So, for somebody to say for the first time to say >> and I just want you to know that for real. [music] >> Mhm. >> Anything else you want to say to the people? >> To the people? What? >> No. Yeah. Okay. In the end, Gerard Richards Nankqua was arrested and charged with cruelty to children and battery, posting a $50,000 bond. Aha Spencer, the girlfriend who filmed the assault, and Britney [music] Mills, the mother who allowed it to happen, were both booked into the Fulton County Jail on charges of cruelty to next. A mother's quick trip to the store was about to unravel into far more than she ever expected. up here. >> On March 28th, 2023, officers from the Joliet Police Department responded to a welfare check at an apartment in Illinois after concerns were raised about an unattended young individual. What they found waiting inside would take only minutes to confirm [music] just how serious the situation really was. >> Hi, >> what's going on? Did you get a call? Okay, hold on a second. >> Figure it out, man. Hold on. >> My call. We'll be heading over to the show. He just needs help talking, I guess. >> Get out. What's up, buddy? >> I like your shirt. [clears throat] >> How old are you? Yeah, he's 40 years old, Filipino. All wearing a black. What's up, man? >> How are you? Where you going? >> Hey, where you going, bud? Come here. Come here. How are you? >> Is it your daddy? >> No. >> No. >> Whose dog is it then? >> What's your name? I don't know. >> I don't know. >> At the scene, officers found four children inside the apartment. And with that, it was time for them to be removed from the home for good, along with everything they would need for the road ahead. >> In the bag there, >> I've got some diapers in here. >> I got one right now. >> Perfecto. >> I mean, is it Wait, I have a >> Yeah, someone went on. >> Yeah, I'll take it. >> I'm going to go in here. >> What's that? >> Hey, >> no no no no. Hey, do you want to come in and watch your kids? Why don't you come in and watch your kids? Okay. >> Right. It makes sense to me, but she wasn't doing it before. >> It's never too >> [snorts] >> Roughly 20 minutes later, the mother finally returned, claiming she'd only stepped out to the store. But officers had already seen enough inside to know that story wasn't going to hold. And with the case building against her, she was about to learn just how little room she had left to talk her way out of it. Um, while you while they're doing background checks on that, does your office have >> Are you out of do you have an office where we can bring the gas to so we're not sitting at our house waiting for an hour or longer for >> North Hickory? Up here. So you go take a look there personal use. She said she's the only ma'am. What's your name? >> What is it? >> I'm sorry. >> Okay, listen. Here's what's going to happen today. Your kids are for right now. We're going over to the DCFS office in Jefferson Street. Uh you're going to come with us for a little bit. You're going to get charged with the misdemeanor right now. >> Yes. Abs 100%. You left the kids alone. You got over there on the on the thing so we can deal with that right now. We'll run the work with you, but you got to cooperate with us. You understand? Okay. Help get us the kids in the car seats and we're going to go get them some food and stuff like that and then we will bring you down to the jail. We'll take to you uh care of you, talk to you, and we'll have DCFS work with you to get your kids and the family members. Okay? For right now. It's not a long-term thing. It's just for right now. You got it. >> Hey, you understand? >> Released on your signature. Yes. >> Listen, it's a mistake, but you got to learn to fix it. Okay? So, come on. Grab >> Don't do this for the kids. Just do it real nice. Go for the I don't want my kids for the same mention right now. >> We're going to We're going to work with your family. >> Come on. We'll meet you right up there. All right. >> Hey, Evan, take his iPad. One sec. >> Is that Let them take the kids out first. >> I'm going to put the Yeah, I'll put this in the bag. I got a bag for them. >> You have here's the thing. We could easily come back in here. Those kids be upside down in bucket of water or get into your over there. >> Come on, dude. >> That's That's [laughter] >> whatever. It's still out in the open, so whether who it is. You got little kids walking around. They get into it. They're doing a >> despite being visibly devastated by what was unfolding before her. The mother was cooperating with officers every step of the way. However, her cooperation wouldn't be enough to keep her out of handcuffs for long. >> But you're not going to get me arrested, right? >> You are going to be arrested. Yes. You're going to I mean not I'm I'm not taking out handcuffs or anything like that. As long as you're cooperative. If you act like you're not going to be cooperative, I'm going to put you in hand. >> No, no, no. But I mean I'm I'm going out. >> Yes. Right now you're going to be released on signature. >> Yes, absolutely. I know what is going to happen. >> I know. But you can't you can't be leaving him like this, right? >> I understand that my mistake. >> Sure. Hey, listen. Mr. Everyone makes mistakes, right? >> But it's a mistake. We just got to 160 standby 15 traffic. >> I'm sorry. Your signals are unreadable. >> East got a crane. [snorts] >> Okay, good. One second. [laughter] >> Chicago. [laughter] [laughter] Hey, >> I got a hold of that training thing doing right now telling this way. I gave him your phone number. >> Be honest with me. Do you have anything else on you or anything? Do you have anything on you? You shouldn't have. >> What you mean? >> Anything drugs or anything like that? You should have >> no car keys with you. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Come on. Take a look. >> Listen, I need you to be calm for your kids. >> Only drugs I do. I just spoke 60. I don't do anything else. >> It's fine. We could say that's the truth. Right now, we're not dealing with that. We're going to But you still can't leave it out like that. You know what I mean? Hey, I need you to be strong for your kids. Okay. Just here. Come over here and have a seat. Are those yours? >> They need your car seat. >> Yep. Okay. I'm going to go out this officer. Remember, your level of cooperation is going to determine how you be treated. We're going to let you use your phone. >> As officers moved to take her into custody, her cooperation throughout the ordeal hadn't gone unnoticed. And before leading her away, they extended her one final courtesy. >> Right now, you made a mistake. Don't make it into another one. Okay? Be strong for your kids. >> And right now, you're released and just a signature. All right? All right. Mr. Gib, come on. >> Okay. Listen. >> Hey, all of us have kids, you know. Okay. It's just you got to you call here in one second. So, >> you have nothing on you shouldn't have, right? You down. >> And you got to go in handcuffs while you're in the car, but we're not doing it in front of your kids. >> Quick ride. Nothing. Just your phone right here. >> Pardon? >> No. >> Hands behind your back, please. >> And again, we'll explain everything down there just like uh They have. >> All right, I'm going to walk over. Uh, hold. >> Yep. >> Those good. I'm going to lock them twice so they don't close on you. Those are okay. >> Hey, I'm over. >> Yeah. You want to do that real quick? We're bringing her the station. The kids are going very under um >> her phone was still in her pocket. >> Yeah. Okay. >> I'll meet you down there. >> Yeah. Are you transporting or? >> No. >> All right. In the end, the mother was arrested on four counts related to endangering. Her bail was set at $5,000 and she was released the following morning with her children remaining in [music] protective custody. In this next case, after a school staff member noticed something strange about a student, what she'd been hiding at home came to the surface and DCF had to step up to expose the rest. >> She has a black eye and it shut cuz he did a drive by Lafayette Street >> with the kids in the car. Yes, she was traumatized by this. >> On March 13th, 2025, officers from the [music] Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Department responded to an elementary school in Louisiana after administrators raised concerns about a student, Kelly's well-being. What staff described when officers arrived was only the beginning of what this family had been hiding. >> Situation was her name is Kelly. These are the pictures. She says that Allan Sam her mom she calls him dad her mom's boyfriend here. >> Mhm. >> Here in this area she said that happened from the belt buckle. So this is the side of the face where she swore all in this area. That's why I did a a straight she's more swollen on that side. Alan um Sam she says is the one who did it. That's her mom's boyfriend. >> Can you send this these pictures to my phone >> first? This is Miss Dre. She's the principal. Y'all met her already. >> I met him. >> Miss Malo from the school district. >> So, Kelly complained that she wasn't feeling well. She disclosed this information to one of our staff members here. She stated that I don't know if it happened this weekend, but the incident occurred. >> Yes, it was this weekend. >> And Allan was upset because they spilled juice. He was just released Tuesday or Wednesday. Probation violation. Don't know what for. But that's mama's boyfriend. My biggest concern is she also disclosed this is their little sister Serena. >> She's at home >> from the primary >> from the primary. She's a first grader. Kelly stays behind is shut. She has a black eye and is shut cuz he beat them. Now the brother, he's going to deny if he's a student here as well. He protects her. Kelly said he was shoved against the door or the wall or something. So he might have on his back. At the scene, school staff showed officers some evidence about Kelly, explaining she disclosed her mother's boyfriend, later identified as Alan Sam, as the person responsible. What staff revealed next about the rest of the family's activities only deepened officer's concern. >> We had called home initially because she was in pain, but her face, I mean, it's swollen, but one side you can see, I don't know if that's where he he per se. Uh, it's like swollen look much larger, like it's not even, you know, the same size. And the child is very thin. Yeah, she's [clears throat] a petite little girl. So, do I send him home on the bus? I mean, do I release her? >> That'd be a DCFS call to make that decision. What does the mom say about all this? >> The mom has not even come to campus. Like, we had an incident and he came and checked on us cuz he is my boss [clears throat] last week where there was after school tutoring and nobody was home. So, we cannot drop off kids at [cough] our home where there's no one. So the bus brought the child back here and so when we started calling nobody would answer the phone. Eventually this gentleman picked up the phone and we told him you know she she's back at school. There's nobody home to receive her. She has to stay at school. He took probably like 40 something minutes. The only thing that or the thing that I think led to them coming get the child is because I called him and I'm like look it's almost 6:00. Nobody has picked up the child and the mom is refusing to answer and I left the message. I said, "Hello, this is Shelley Dubra from Tel the principal. I have your child here. She's been here for, you know, so much time. If someone does not come pick up this child, call me back in the next 30 minutes. I will have to get law enforcement involved." So, I want to say maybe 20 or so minutes after that >> 25 he came. I have never seen the mother. So, mom has rheumatoid arthritis, but she's a she's still able-bodied enough, but she does suffer. Sometimes she's very stiff. I've met mom multiple times since last year as well because of the little serenity, her behavior, mental health issues. >> As officers pieced together the timeline, staff described a pattern of unanswered calls and a mother who hadn't shown up to check on Kelly. What came up next tied this incident to something far bigger than anyone in the room had expected. mom. A week or so ago, she was detained by Lafayette Paris Sheriff's Department. She was the driver. The kids were in the car. The two older ones, not Serenity. >> Um Christopher and Kelly and Christopher, they were backseat passengers in the car. The cousin, they did a driveby in Lafayette Parish Law Street >> with the kids in the car. >> Yes. >> Yes. >> And she was detained. >> Yes. >> There's nothing cuz I checked with my people. She There's nothing to say she that mom was arrested. So that was a report that I recently just did to DCFS. They never called her back yet on that. So I did a formal report again and now this because this is all within a week or so that >> with the cousin that was during the migra break and this child reported to me because she was afraid. She been having dreams because they were in the back seat. Mom was temporarily detained. The kids were placed in one other unit. Mom was in another unit and Christopher was like, "I was just scared that my mom was going to be hurt because of course she was complaining, you can't put cuffs on me. I have arthritis." You know, that kind of thing. They were released to leave with grandmother. They left the police station. The children did, but the children also, she disclosed to me that they were told to sit on the when they got stopped. I put all that in my report. So, this happened over the grabber. Now, do I Allan was still incarcerated at that time, but I don't know who this cousin is because they use nicknames. I don't know who these people are, but mother was the driver of this car. >> Officers learned that just days earlier, the same mother had been detained by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Department in an unrelated incident with her children. That detail alone changed the scope of what officers were now dealing with. >> He got out a week later. He got out Tuesday. >> Where did we get the information that she was detained from >> the child? >> They might have just stopped him and questioned him. >> No, they were taken to the police station. Taken to the police station? >> No, they were taken to the police station. The children were driven in a different car. They were she was traumatized by this and then Christopher also confirmed the information. Part of it was the mom's car is quite recognizable was written. I forget the the cross >> and I saw it on the I said is that them? >> Cuz I saw them laugh at Parish. I said, "Is this No, that can't be them." And that's when this child >> came up and said >> came up and shared this information. >> I don't know what you could be walking into, but I need some guidance in relation to I mean either from y'all or them about these children. What DCFS said they're going to do? >> They said they're going to try to make this a priority one call because that might be them right there. >> Yes. Hello. There was supposed to be someone that went to that address as well. We have the DA that we report to as well in relation to different circumstances of children. So, she was supposed to be contacting >> Miss Natalie Spencer >> with office with the DA. I >> I think I still have >> Yeah, let me go get out of the car. Okay. So, do I call an ambulance? And know that she's a nurse practitioner. She wonder who she is. >> It's an at home perpetrator. >> The perpetrator is at home. >> Yeah. >> With the child. >> So, we're not going to send a perpetrator to the hospital. No. >> No. Okay. So, he's telling me I need to call the police and I have to I need a ride with her to >> We already called the police. >> No, I'm sorry. The ambulance. >> Oh, yeah. I already got >> You have to contact the parent >> that she's going to the hospital. >> Oh, so we have to let them know. >> That's what I'm The child that's already there with a black eye is closed. >> I know. You see, I have to call the ambulance because of the medical issues and the liability. >> Hold on a sec. So, what we're going to do is when DCFS gets over here, DCFS can take over with the child. You'll be there at the state. They can contact the judge. We can tell them the circumstances, the severity of circumstances, and they can be immediately awarded to the state by judge like an emergency. Yeah. And then we're going to handle the criminal aspect of >> we'll handle the criminal aspect. Hey, what happened? >> But I need to bring this child to the hospital right away from what the nurse practitioners tell. >> So I need to So if you have that, then I'll have the medical. So I'm going to call 911 to bring me an ambulance. >> Head trauma, you know, possible in the brain, she can no neck. So I have a cad coming over here. DCFS need to get here so they can possibly get a child ward or do emergency ward to the state. >> With a nurse practitioner recommending that Kelly be taken for immediate medical evaluation, officers moved quickly to coordinate with DCFS to secure custody of all three children. What happened next left no room for further delay. >> There's three kids involved, two girls, one boy. One of the ch one of the girls is that's injured is here at school at Tesh Elementary. >> The other one >> the other one is at home apparently with a black eye shut eye. Everybody that's coming is coming into play right now. >> Okay. >> Case workers on her way. >> Yes. >> Out of Texas is coming. She's going to assist us with the case. >> Okay. >> Not taking over it, but we're going to take the case. Yeah. >> We just want to make sure we get the kids out >> and DCFS is most likely going to go to the house, obtain the other child, and we're going to be there. >> Yeah. They don't come to the door though. I'm going to let you know. They don't answer phone calls. She doesn't come to the door. any of those kinds of things because it it it takes an act of Congress for her to even when that the little one the first grader um she's tried to run from campus multiple times, jump the fence, all kinds of things like that. And that child has sat there for half the day. We consider that grease, you know, when they try to flee from school. >> Okay. So, what do I need to do? Sir, I don't want everything in >> I understand. I understand. I I just Where did I get to the hospital? That's my only goal for being here was to evaluate. She asked me to come and evaluate what I thought needed to to happen. And I feel that a CT scan of the face for sure, the head and the neck is appropriate. >> With Kelly hospitalized, officers wasted no time in meeting Alan Sam at his location and detaining him. But one more parent remained for officers to deal with. >> Voicemail. We need to see what we dealing with. >> Yeah, we can't do nothing until we know. >> We're going to have to do a forensic. We need to see the extent of her injuries to know exactly what the The doctor said with that head, whatever going on with that child head, >> it's like you said, it'll definitely fit secondderee cruelty. Let's make sure it's not something worse. >> Hello. >> This is not the first time she ended up documentation. >> I have rheumatoid arthritis which is incurable. I go see the doctor and I go to aroma therapy, the one off of Gilbo. >> So, you have your medical ID cards. What you saying? >> As far as that, I'm getting my doctor to write a prescription. not a prescription being that I'm working. My doctor is patients uh patients jered. She pretty much what they want cuz she told me to just walk in there and they told me uh when I called to walk in there they told me it would have to be a uh I guess a referral. So all they told me I couldn't do was pretty much purchase. >> So that's not prescribed. >> No. Uh that right there is prescribed. All I did was pretty much put in the uh bag. >> Okay. >> So you understand the process when it's prescribed to you >> Uhhuh. >> you have to keep it in the original dispensary container. >> Uh-huh. So that's a violation. And you're running around with children. >> Oh, no. I just went She's homebound currently. This is something I literally just went pick up. She's homebound. >> So she's homebound. >> Then your medication should also be homebound. No, >> correct. No, I just put it. It's pretty much >> the back of the car. >> Okay. >> Thank you. >> Can you have your guys hook him up with the second degree cruelty for her and I'll handle the one in the hospital when we get the extent of injuries? >> So she's getting the >> she's she's leaving with Aadian. Can we hook him up with seconddegree cruelty for this kid and then I'll do the invest? >> Yes, that is Alan Sam. I'll do the investigation for the woman that's in the hospital once we get the extended. >> Let me get with corporal and >> Okay. Thank you. >> sort it all out. Your name, sir? >> Oh, Alan. I'm sorry. >> Alan who? >> Mr. Sam. >> Is who doing what now? >> I was just asking a question, sir. >> He was just asking if they were >> Yeah. Why they >> are they doing what with who? >> I was just asking if they were taking Sorry. Yeah. >> Okay. >> Right now, concerning the investigation, >> I'm going to ask you a question. >> Okay. >> And I'm going to need your full cooperation. Yes, sir. >> Okay. I hope you understand that. Mr. Sam, I need you to turn around and place your hand behind your back. Okay. You being detained in reference to the second degree cruelty to investigation. You do have the right to remain silent. You understand your rights, Mr. Sam? >> Step away from the car, please. I just gave Corporal the rundown basically. So the guy that I just detained, that same subject, he's going to jail in reference to the little run and that's all for now. >> Okay. >> So while y'all are booking him in jail, I'm going to book whatever evidence comes out of here. >> I need to get my other child diaper bag. >> You need a what? >> My child diaper bags are like this feast. >> Just a moment. Go step to the back of the car, please. This diaper bag. Yeah. >> This one right here. Okay. Is there a problem, ma'am? Excuse me. Is there a problem? >> Oh, no. He saw it. >> That's good to see him. That's why I'm asking. No, >> I'm asking you to wait right there and be patient. >> As officers searched the vehicle, the mother grew increasingly impatient over a diaper bag she insisted she urgently needed. That kind of urgency was enough to make officers take a much closer look inside it. >> This is yours. >> So, why are you not being detained right now? >> Cuz you got a diaper to change. I mean my you want to smell this before I ask you. >> I'm telling you that could wait. >> But he he smell >> I'm telling you that could wait. >> Why? >> For the third time. Cuz you're not comprehending. >> No. >> You're not comprehending. That's why I have to tell you about my >> diaper and some wipes. That's all you're asking for. Where >> Where are the diapers? >> Don't worry about it. You can just give me the wipes. Excuse me while I finish searching for your name again, ma'am. Delicious. >> You live here? >> Yes. No. Well, she's >> here. I'll >> let y'all know by the end of the week you're going to have a warrant for your arrest. >> Okay. >> Mine is my doctor's already as before we even spoke. She >> But I don't know if my corporal has anything else for you. So, >> okay. >> Just hang tight. >> Okay. >> He's doing the arrest but still forwarding it to you for the other one. for the child that's in the hospital and for mom. >> In the end, Alan Sam was arrested and charged with secondderee cruelty to a while, while the mother was charged with two counts of secondderee endangerment along with multiple other charges. Moving to the next case, a young individual exposed more than her mother expected, bringing DCF into the picture before the day was over. >> Did mom do anything other than yell at you? Did she hit you or anything? >> She always me. >> Did she hit you anywhere else? >> Yeah, she me in the mouth, the hand, everywhere. My mom scared me. >> Okay. >> On June 1st, 2023, officers from the Flaggler Beach Police Department responded after witnesses reported seeing a woman, [music] Amanda, going physical with her daughter. After officers arrived, what the daughter told officers would turn this into far more than a single roadside incident. >> I just I just can't watch it, man. >> No, I was with the Patriots. >> Where do you want to go? What seat do you want to sit in? Because you have whatever option you want. Ma'am. Ma'am, can I help you? >> What is >> I'm telling my mom the truth. >> You're telling her the truth? >> I'm telling the mom. >> What's going on, sweetie? >> So, um, we just got there and she just messed with me up and and she keep on messing with me every single time and she kept on being crazy. Yeah, >> try. >> I'm trying. Nikki, >> I know. >> She pulled my head back. >> What is that in your hand? >> I'm coming. >> That goes to this car that will start it. There's nothing else that will start it. >> She can't. >> So, you guys are just doing be okay. She's having a meltdown. She's seven. >> Okay. And everybody else are concerned, folks. Making sure that we're watching for 20 minutes. >> You're the one that called. So, >> she's been trying to go on the street with a bike >> and a busy street. We We're concerned with the child safety. That's why we're here. >> She by the hand. >> All right. So, I have another officer that's coming. Okay. So, we can start by separating people and getting everybody inside the head and knew what we saw you restaurant. >> That's insanity. then stuck in my way. >> It's not illegal. >> Because whenever you do that way, when you >> I raised two kids. >> Money. >> Yes. >> Amanda. >> Amanda, can you come talk to me over here? >> Yes, sir. Hang on just a second. Let me show you the bicycle in this truck. >> There's a bic. Okay. I I believe you. There's a bicycle. >> Yeah. >> I did notic. Come here. Come here. We're going to talk over here. Okay. >> Amanda, we're going to talk over here. Okay. >> Let me talk to her. Can I have a handshake for someone? >> At the scene, witnesses described a physical altercation between Amanda and her daughter. Officers knew separating the two was only the first step in figuring out what had actually happened. >> What happened with what happened with mom? >> Um, now she just started going crazy now. >> She just started going crazy. Has that happened before? >> Yeah. Why did she go crazy? because um she always going crazy because she don't like to see anymore because um her mom just been mean and made ugly face to my mom. >> Who made ugly faces to your mom? >> My mom's mom. >> Your mom's mom. Do you have two moms? >> No, like she has a mom. >> She has a mom to your grandom. >> Where is grandma at? >> Huh? >> Where is your Where is your grandma at? >> In Texas. >> In Texas. When did you guys come here? >> Um, we were then we were um um sleeping in um right beside Florida and we got in from Florida. >> In Florida. Have you been sleeping in your car? >> No. Yeah, >> we packed up already. and a friend. Um we had a friend um I don't know remember but um she was a girl and um um we was uh mom would be a mean and text because she I always but she always yell at me every single time because um I just want to get new toys and >> and my mom don't let me every single time. >> And I have a dad, but he's in Virginia and they fight every They fight. And um I just I saw I I was born and um um I was born and mad just fight. >> They just fight. So now you live just with mom. >> Okay. >> My dad is in Virginia already because um um he moved >> he moved to Virginia. >> Okay. >> He belongs to Texas only. >> He belongs to Texas. Okay. Did Did mom do anything other than yell at you? Did she hit you or anything? She always me. But um we fight every single time and >> I just >> Yeah. >> I stuck to mom on accident. But >> that's my baby. >> Um so I just don't want mom to go to jail, though. >> Speaking with the girl directly, officers learned this wasn't an isolated moment. What she said next made it clear this went far beyond what witnesses had just seen. Why would your mom go to jail? >> Um, she went to jail like crazy. >> Three times. >> Three times. What? >> Baby right there. >> Um, so mom and dad probably like my dad punched mom and my mom punched dad. >> My dad's name is Zach and he belongs to um >> um Virginia now. And um so this one's a kind of good story, but I don't know what but my cousin >> from a guy got in a car wreck. >> Oh, that's really sad. >> And his name is Jay. My cousin >> um we got we just a rock just got from our car. But um she um >> so I don't know what happened in the front of the car, but it was a big fat. >> Okay. >> Not a big giant one, but like two back. So >> So sometime sometimes mom dad and sometimes dad mom. Does mom ever hit you? >> Um every single time. We always fight every single time. >> You and mom fight. Where does she hit you? >> Everywhere. >> Everywhere. When did she hit you last time? >> Um, so she hit me on to All right. Because it hurts. >> It just hurt kids. Um, I have a babysitter. Her name is Jules, but she's he she's alive, but she belongs in Florida, too. >> She's in Florida, too. >> She's a babysitter. >> She's your babysitter. Do you like her? >> She's nice. >> She's just um maybe she she's 13 and she always um belongs. >> She's 13. Okay. >> Does mom hit you with her hands? Does she with anything else? >> She with a a big a um a a big fork for like stirring something. And she always me. >> She always you on your >> Yeah, it hurts. >> It hurts. Did she you anywhere else? >> Yeah, she me in the mouth, the hands, everywhere. >> It just hurts. >> With the daughter now safely separated and speaking openly, officers turned their attention back to Amanda, preparing to search her before placing her into custody. What officers found on her during that search added one more complication to an already serious case. >> Do you have any Huh? Do >> you have any? >> Yeah, but they're everywhere. >> They're everywhere. >> I don't know where they are, but Oh, >> I always I always pick this bolo because I um >> I draw myself sometimes. >> You draw Oh, did you draw a heart on there? >> And I draw a cube >> and a cube. A heart and a cube. >> Do you like riding your bike? >> Yeah. But um that's new. I got it for my bull pup school now. >> For what? >> Um I got it for my bull pup. My um my friend and she's Lisa and she's very nice. >> Did Lisa give you the bike? >> Oh, that was really nice. I like that. That's a pretty bike. >> I'm going to talk to my sergeant. Okay. >> You want to sit in the car, dear? Are you okay with that? >> My mom's scared me. >> Okay. You want to just stand right there? >> Just give us one quick second. What are you doing? >> I'm giving you my hands. >> Your hands are fine. Your hands are fine. >> Spread your feet apart for me, please. Spread your feet. >> Do you have anything on you that could poke me or stick me? >> Uh, there's a razor blade and the ID. >> Yes, sir. There's a razor blade. >> Yes, sir. >> There's >> Don't reach for this. >> Pain ladder. It's a >> Walmart pocket. >> Walmart pocket. >> Yeah, that Walmart stuff. >> Absolutely. Did we miss anything? Cuz I don't want you to get a charge for introduction of controvers. So tell me now if there's anything that we missed, anything in your undergarments, anything like that. >> Can I talk to my daughter first? >> No. In the end, Amanda was taken into custody and booked into the Flaggler County Jail on a felony charge related to children with a bond set at $10,000. [music] Court orders barred her from contacting her daughter, and the child was placed in the custody of another adult while the case proceeded. Next, we have a case of a father who kept stalling officers at his door about seeing where his daughter slept, unaware that his hesitation alone was about to bring DCF straight [music] into the picture. We just had a report guarding um that the child mates reported to school staff that their dad was angry a lot and needed him. He wanted to live with his mom. Reported that multiple incidents of death pushing him to the ground. Um reported that he got scared um that night and his dad ended up pushing him to the ground again. They have been I guess gave him groceries cuz the dad has been having a hard time and then dad got mad at him again. He didn't have any marks of bruisings according to the school, but um he reported that dad him in the face and he made a fist. He reported that dad has kicked him. He was asked about if he understood his private area and he said yes and that's where dad had kicked him. Um calls him names. Dad has him before. He said calls him stupid. Get out of my house. Calls me um bull. Calls me f word. gives me the middle finger >> and it was reported by a teacher. >> Yeah, but it's anonymous, but it's reported to school staff, it says. So, >> so the kid reported it to the school yesterday, but then they just sent you guys like a >> like an email of it or like >> It's a It's a They made a report. >> So, they didn't contact law enforcement? >> No. >> So, then they just let the kid go home with his dad? >> Yeah. >> After saying all that? >> Yeah. >> Um and there's no record of mom at all? No, it doesn't say anything. It just gives the dad's father. >> Okay. >> As a reference, but that's it. >> Hopefully, he's here with the kid. Um I did find a grandpa in um on the kid's power school so I can give you that information if you need it. >> With a clearer understanding of the report, officers headed towards the residence. However, when officers arrived at the residence, they heard a disturbing and aggressive scene even before making contact. It quickly became clear that something was seriously wrong inside the home. >> God [screaming] damn it. Why can't you ever just do what you're told, you stupid? >> Officer Fernandez with Farmington Police Department. >> Hi. >> Hello. How are you? Can we talk to you outside? >> Yeah, absolutely. >> Okay. So, we can hear that you're pretty upset. Okay. Um, so we're just going to talk to you about some stuff that's going on, okay, with your son? >> Yeah, absolutely. >> How do you say your name? Uh, I go by Athena. >> Athena. Okay. >> Okay. How do you say his name? >> Aragorn. >> Aragorn. Okay. Where is he at inside the house? Cuz I need >> this room. I just put him in this room for a timeout because I'm trying to walk away. >> Okay. Do I have your permission to go make sure that he's okay real quick? >> Absolutely. >> Okay. >> After receiving the father's authorization to enter, officers were met with a scene of chaos. Inside the child's bedroom, the fear was unmistakable. The child appeared tense and distrustful, as if bracing for what might come next. Hi. How are you? You okay? >> Mhm. >> Yeah. You need a hug? Okay. You upset? >> Cuz my dad hurt me. >> Okay. Where did Where did he put you? >> He pushed me in front and that's what he did >> just now. Okay. Can I see like your hands and stuff to make sure you don't have any boo boos or nothing? >> Okay. You want to pull up your sleeve for me so I can see your arms? You look a little bit red on your arms right here. What happened? See that right there? What happened? You know, >> dad just pushed me. >> He pushed me. What about these ones? Was that from the same thing? >> Okay. You got some red stuff. Did you Did Where did you Was it your back or was it up here? >> It was up here. >> It was up here. All right. And that's where you What did it hit your face at all? Okay. What side? This one >> that side. All right. How old are you? Airborne. You're six. Can I Hey, let me see the back of Can I see the back of your neck real quick? >> You can play with your toys. I just want to look at the back of your neck. Okay. >> My dad This is really easy. >> You got any boo you got any boo boos on your legs? >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Okay. That one? >> Yep. >> Okay. >> I was shooting the other one. >> What happened with those? Do you remember what happened to your knees? >> Yeah. >> What happened? >> Look at this. >> Oh my goodness. What happened? >> Michael pushed me. >> Who's Michael? >> Michael's just like my brother. >> Your brother? >> Yeah. >> Does anybody >> He really swatched me right there very hard. >> Okay. >> Yeah. That's why I start cry. >> Okay. Well, >> that was a very long time. >> How old is Michael? >> Uh, eight. >> He's eight. And he's your he's your brother? >> Yep. Who else lives here with you? >> Um, my dad. >> Just your dad. Nobody else? >> Yeah, but grandpa and Michael just Michael just come and grandpa. >> According to the responding officer, the situation immediately raised concerns. The child's account combined [music] with visible bruising pointed toward possible mistreatment. During a seemingly calm conversation with the father, investigators began to sense that the situation was far more complex than it first appeared. >> The only kind of that's happened before is been spanked. As far as any kicking and stuff like that, um I have some aggression at times where I'll break personal items, but um never anything that goes on to him. I do yell um you know, it's single parent. there's times where in the mornings um he just doesn't he doesn't want to listen to me and so he throws tantrums and I'm trying to get him ready for school and I can't get to work on time and I can't do the things I need to do to provide for him and so it perpetuates and that anger just builds up and I don't know what to do because I don't have a support system and I'm transitioning and I don't have a support system for that and I just I don't know what I'm supposed to do [snorts] when I get frustrated cuz it's like just now I was trying to walk away and he keeps grabbing me and pulling me away and trying to like me and stuff and so I keep trying to push him away and finally I just pushed him away a little harder and he fell and I don't you know I don't know what to do in those situations like I don't want to hurt him I don't want to touch him but if he's grabbing onto me when I'm trying to walk away and I'm frustrated what am I supposed to do and I've gotten him in counseling with I've got in family counseling we're going to Judy Beck and there's been times where we've talked about things and we've been trying to work through it. So, I'm trying to go through the motions to get to a point where it's not bad for him at home, but I, you know, I don't I'm just lost. I don't, you know, I don't know what resources there even is for single parents to, you know, >> as the discussion continued, officers began to realize that the father struggled to manage family conflict related to the separation. While Athena appeared unable to cope with the situation, together, their actions contributed to an environment of constant stress. >> Where's his mom? She's in South Carolina. >> Does he have any contact with her? >> She's supposed to video chat with them once a week, but it's more like once every two weeks if we're lucky. And I've talked to her about trying to be more involved and trying to contact him more often. And she says that she will be, but she doesn't. And she left suddenly. She just left during CO. She said that she was going to go live with her mom. We had 50/50 custody and he was doing great during that time. He was thriving. >> Um when she left, it was put all on me. So, what we're going to do is just kind of, you know, um I'm going to go and talk to him as well. And then we can also offer resources to you to kind of support. We have family support services that can also come in through the home and help you out. I know they do. It's through Desert View. Have you gone through them? >> I haven't gone through Desert View before. um when I first was 50/50 custody with um his mom, he was in it was a special um needs program and stuff and they came and visited with us before, you know, and he was thriving during that time. I was doing okay because I had someone else who could help, you know, help me on that and so I was doing a lot better. There wasn't any yelling ever or anything like that. >> As the conversation unfolded, small but troubling details emerged. statements the father had described as harmless habits took on a more serious meaning to counselors and officers. >> I forgot uh Round Tree, that's what they're called. Okay. >> Round tree. Yeah. So, I was with them for a long time. >> Okay. >> And then, um when he got older, they said that they could continue service with him, but they didn't see need to at that time. >> Okay. Does he have any developmental disabilities? >> No, I don't know. I mean, um, his, uh, school counselor has, um, said maybe to see if he's high functioning, autistic, but there's no huge signs of >> Okay. How do you discipline? >> Generally, I usually try to put him in a timeout. Lately, he's just been disobedient and stuff like that. So, I usually just get frustrated. I'll take away toys and TV and stuff, but again, he just tries to escalate the situation. He'll call me names, try to me. I'll tell him that's not appreciated. I'll put him in timeout and then eventually he just escalates to a point where I don't really do it too often, but sometimes I'll spank him and it's not harder than, you know, it's enough to maybe make him go like this, but it's about like that. >> Okay. >> And it's and he's usually I wouldn't say fine after that, but he's he's frustrated and then he tells me I'm mean and then usually I can walk away at that point, but otherwise he'll just scream and cry for hours. >> Oh, okay. How many times do you usually think? >> Maybe twice a week. It's not often. >> Like at the time? >> Oh, just once. >> Yeah, just once. >> And then with your hand or >> just hit my hand. >> Okay. You're on Medicaid? >> No, I Well, I was before. He should still be I I had insurance through, but now Okay. Any substance use? >> Um, I smoke. >> How frequently do you >> um once a day. When was your last use? >> Last night. >> Okay. Is that around your son or is it? >> No, it's usually after he goes to bed. Okay. >> Coming up, officers spoke privately with the young boy. What initially seemed like a simple conversation soon turned into detailed accounts, suggesting these incidents were frequent in his daily life and [music] revealing information that had not been mentioned before. >> So, we need to put him on a 48 hour hold. >> Oh, okay. >> Um, with everything he just told me. I don't know if he showed you his >> Okay. You want to Hey, remember what we were talking about earlier? >> Yeah. >> Like what happened right here and on the other side? Your boo boos. >> That's from my dad. >> They're from your dad. >> And that's the blood came out of my nose. >> What was that? >> That's the blood came out of my nose. >> Blood came out of your nose and there was a little bad. >> Okay. >> And there's some in my bathroom. >> I can hear. Let's just talk quiet. Okay. >> Where's my dad? He's downstairs talking to somebody else. Okay. Okay. >> So, we just got to make sure that you're okay. This is Eric Gorn and he's 6 years old. The bruises on his face, he's got one right here on his right side that kind of looks like a line. >> Okay. >> It's It kind of looks new to me. On the other side is a little bit bigger. It's like right next to his mouth. Kind of the size of the quarter. >> So, I don't know if there's any internal things going on. We are going to put him on a 48 hour hold and >> Okay. >> I'm going to try to transfer transport the dad to detective. So, >> okay. Where is parent? >> Dad is downstairs, but dad goes by Athena. >> Oh, that was in the purple. >> Yes. >> With each detail, officers began to understand that the injuries described by the child were likely genuine and that they may have been caused by Athena, the father. Athena remained largely unresponsive as his child spoke. His silence was telling and the weight of what could follow settled heavily in the room. >> So there is some bruising and stuff on Aragorn. Okay. >> Yeah. So there's there's a few and there's some scratches and some redness on him. So we are going to we have no choice but to put a 48 hour hold on him because he has bruising and stuff like that. >> So what does that mean? So, what that means is he's going to be transported by medics to the hospital and he's going to get evaluated for the injuries that he does have. He is making some statements about how he got those things. Okay? So, that's something law enforcement has to investigate. And with that being said, we can't have you in contact with him until everything's done being investigated. Okay. his counselor. Is she going to be allowed to be involved in in such >> his school counselor or >> his medical counselor? >> His medical counselor Judy Beck >> Judy Beck >> and she's my personal counselor as well. >> She's been working with us. >> Okay. So, my biggest question right now is are you willing to go with us to the detectives to talk about what's going on just because it's a more formal sit down place or are you >> am I going to be appointed an attorney? If if you want an attorney, that's 100% you're right and you can have one. >> I mean, and if I choose not to go down to I'm just trying to get >> talk here if you want. >> Yeah, we we we can talk here, but if you want an attorney, you always can have an attorney present. >> Um, yeah, I would like to talk here and I would potentially like some kind of attorney. That's an option. >> We're in America, right? We all have rights. So, you have the right to remain silent. Obviously, if you want an attorney, we can facilitate that if that's something that you would like. Um, if not, if you're open to answering questions here, I can sit down with you and we can have a chat. >> Yeah, I mean, >> okay, let let me sit down. Let me sit down. >> Officers began to realize that the injuries described by the child were likely genuine and that they may have been caused by Athena, the father. As this understanding set in, Athena showed little reaction to what his own child had just revealed. >> But what happened? This morning he had woken up and it was a pretty normal morning [snorts] and um I went to go get him dressed and I asked him to turn off the TV and it was time to get ready to go and he said no. I waited a few minutes. I asked him again. He said no and this time I turned off the TV and [snorts] I could tell he was frustrated. So I walked away. I let him be upset and then I came back. I was like, "All right, let's get dressed." He told me no. I said, "Okay, well then I'm going to be the one that gets you dressed then cuz I need you to go to school." >> Yeah. >> And he said no. And then he started fighting and all this. So I sat down on the chair and I was trying to take off his shirt and he was flinging himself around and he swung himself into the chair and he hit himself on the cheek and then he started crying and screaming. And then I didn't know what to do to get him to calm down cuz he didn't I tried to hug him. He didn't want that. I tried to say I'm sorry. He didn't want that. And then I tried to walk away and that was pretty much it. We just won't go to school today and I've been jobless. So, I've been trying to put job occupations out. So, I was frustrated because I can't go and do that cuz I'm worried about taking care of them. And so, we've just been hanging out all day. We played with Legos. We had a Nerf war. I took a break. I was just on the computer just doing some job stuff and came [snorts] in my room. And he had asked me for a snack and he said, "Sure, give me just a second." And then he started calling me names and stuff. I was like, "You're not going to have a snack if you're going to be mean to me. You know, you're just going to end up in timeout." He just kept being rude. And I said, "Please stop." And he said, "No." So I was like, "All right, fine. You're going to go to your room." And so I went to go pick him up and then he dropped his body to the floor and was dragging his body against the floor when I still had his arm in my hand. So I let go and then he got all upset. So I tried to pick him up by the body and then place him in his room and that's when he kept pulling on me and kept pulling on me and I was like I I even set him I was like, "Let me walk away." >> You know, >> the narrative shifted when Athena explained his version of events. His account appeared sincere and his tone suggested honesty. However, during what seemed like a simple emotional outburst, he unintentionally [music] revealed something crucial. He was no longer emotionally capable of caring for the child. >> He turns himself and he slams his head, but he himself right on here. >> Okay, that's pretty hard. And so I didn't know what he was upset about at first. I was like, "Why are you so upset?" And he's like, "You hurt me." I was like, "I didn't hurt you. You the pillow." And then he's like, "No, you hit me right here." >> Okay. Is that where these peas came from? Was that just like an ice pack or something? >> That was an ice pack. Yes. Afterwards, I said, "Oh, it was red." So, I asked him, I was like, "Do you want to put something on your face to make it feel better?" >> And he said yes. And I was like, "It should make it go away eventually." >> When we first walked up to the door, there's some pretty choice words that were used. And I mean, I get it. Um, I have kids. I get frustrated. I I say I say I say that kind of stuff. It It sounded pretty aggressive, though. Everything piling the way the way it sounds. >> Being able to go to counseling. I mean, And I don't want to cuz this sounds like bad, right? But my job [snorts] had asked me to violate the law. And so I told him I quit. And now I don't have any way to take care of myself or him. I can't go to counseling anymore. I can't like I have nothing that I can do to take care of myself. [snorts] And I don't know how I'm supposed to be able to help him. And I can't even help myself. >> And so I try really hard to just walk away from situations and stuff. >> We're wondering if we could um have grandpa. Yeah. >> Okay. Um, my dad's phone number. >> Hey, kiddo. >> Bye, kiddo. I love you. >> As the discussion continued, officers began to recognize that a lack of family stability may have played a significant role in the child's living conditions. What stood out, however, was the father's sudden emotional collapse when faced with the possibility of arrest. Moments earlier, there had been no visible restraint when it came to verbally and physically mistreating his own child. The contrast was striking. Emotions surfaced only when consequences became real. You guys were arguing a little bit this morning about him not wanting to go to school. You said you were walking towards the garage. The chair tripped you up and you just later broke it. >> I I broke it in the same I tripped on it and I was because I was so frustrated and then I tripped on it. I was mad cuz I it was in the way and I didn't see it. So then I got mad and I kicked it and it broke and then I just stomped on it afterwards to get it out of and break it the rest of the way. >> At this point, investigators understood that Athena's emotional struggles could no longer be dismissed. His instability had likely contributed to actions that put his child at risk, opening the door to serious legal consequences that were now unfolding. >> Do you feel sorry at all? Is that is that why >> like before you guys >> when when he hit the couch? Was that on purpose and then you felt sorry and grabbed the peas, put them on his face? >> I did feel sorry and I did go grab them and I put them on his face. I was like, "Okay, let's try to get that swelling down because I don't want you to be like having a hard time chewing >> or made fun of." So, in the past couple days, have there been times where you felt that you were so frustrated and that your spanking was overboard or your punishment was overboard? >> Today was the first time I've spanked him in in weeks. And I mean, usually my punishments are, you know, no TV or video games. And that's usually pretty soft cuz I feel bad like I don't know what good punishments there are. So, the worst that I do is is I get frustrated and yell and I always feel bad about that. But you don't feel like you've gone overboard recently or as of late. >> I've I've definitely like on the verbal side where I've been upset where I've just, you know, gone through and had kind of my own tantrum cuz I have CPTSD. >> Mhm. >> You know, so like it's just sometimes it's uncontrollable, you know, and I just get frustrated and I'll just walk back and forth down the halls and try to vent out. So I'll yell and he hears that, but it's never directly at him. I do yell though, so it's not like and he thinks it's about he thinks it's at him. It's like I'll say something like why can't you just listen to me or you know like I wish you would just do what I'm telling you to do. Um you're making these you know like things like that or like god I'm just so frustrated with you right now. I wish I could just take a break. >> So and then help me clarify something because this is a picture that I had painted in my mind. I was about to kick down the door, right? I hear some some words and then I hear you stupid. But in my in my head, I'm seeing you very frustrated and then him potentially being injured or hurt. He was upstairs in his room. He was upstairs in his room and that's when I had walked straight to the door. I had been sitting here for a second and I looked at the time and I real I was like, "Dude, uh it's 12:00 in the day, you know. I mean, now it is, you know, it's 11:00 in the morning. I haven't done anything with my day." >> Mhm. And so I was frustrated about that because I was reminded just how the whole day went. I was sitting right here the whole time when you guys knocked on the door. I mean, I was 5 seconds away, you know, like I answered immediately. So I was down here, he was upstairs in his room. >> Okay. Do you think he might explain something differently um as far as like the incidents today? >> I don't think so. I mean, it's hard to say what words he would use, but I'm pretty sure you would get almost the same general story. Okay. >> As the investigation continued, officers carefully examined the details provided by Athena's son. Their questioning wasn't meant to accuse, but to determine whether the child's account was consistent or if there were signs of fabrication. Yet, as the conversation unfolded, his trembling voice and visible nervousness told a different story. Then, one carefully chosen question shifted the tone of the room. >> So, Aragorn told me that you had thrown him up against the wall and that's how he got a scratch on his chest. I've never done that. Never done anything like that. >> So, is there [snorts] >> I'll walk through the whole story as many times as I have to, but I've never touched him in that aspect. >> Why would he feel the need to tell a police cuz usually police officers make kids feel safe, right? >> Right. No, I've picked him up like, you know, like how I usually pick him up is underneath by the arms and stuff like that. and I and he was facing me, but I've never pushed him against the like thrown him against the wall or anything like that. Like it's some kind of like movie investigation or anything like that. >> So he said that um in his room that [music] when I was up there earlier, um he said that you gave him a nose bleed the other day and that the blood that there is blood on his bed is from you is what he said. and he had a nose bleed in the middle of the night and it was on his bed and he woke me up and I didn't know what was going on at first cuz he said my nose hurts so I was like what's going on? He had already gotten up and wiped it but yeah I had a dry nose and it was in the middle of the night. >> Do you feel like um you don't want them in your life anymore? >> No. That it would help you through your transition that it'll help you through your frustrations get better without him and then once you're better you want them back? >> No. I want to have the the partnership that my ex-wife and I agreed on. I want to have like I want to be involved in every step of his life, but I can't do it on my own. I need somebody who's like a parental figure to be able to take on that that role. >> So, you don't feel like a parental figure. >> Well, I mean, I do feel like a parental figure, but I need somebody else, like a partnership in some some way. Like, I don't have to have like a significant other, but like I've talked to his mother. I've asked her, I've begged her to move back. I was like, "Please, like, I need your help to raise him. You know, he needs his mom." I've said that when we got divorced in court that I said that he needs both of his parents in his life. >> And when she left, she gave me the option to either not have him at all in my life or take him full-time. And it's like, what are you going to do in that situation? He's my son. Of course, I want to see him every day. Yeah. >> So, it's like I've I was pushed into either having him fulltime or not at all. >> Yeah. But as of late, do you feel like you don't want him right now? I >> like you want to not push him off to somebody, but you you need your own time, right? >> I just want somebody who's able to take him half the time. I want to be able to be a supportive parent and involved in his life, but I don't know if I have the ability to do that every day. You know, I'm I [music] mean, you know, I have like like I said, there's all this stuff going on. I just, you know, I don't know what that is. Like I don't have other friends really who have kids. you know, it's not like if that was the case, you know, it's like maybe, you know, they could go hang out together for the day and, you know, I can do the same for them or something, but I just don't really have that option. So, it's just I do need a break of some kind, but I don't want like a long extended break away from him. I love him. I love I mean, I love playing Nerf Wars with him. I love playing Legos with him. Like, I love all of that. >> Athena's emotional outburst caught the officer's attention. Gradually, it became clear that the lack of stability in Argo's life was influencing far more than anyone had expected, including the decisions made by the very person who was supposed to protect him. >> Like, you know, it's when I was working, it's like by the time I get off and go pick him up, it's like 5:15. I have to call him home and make dinner and all of that. And then by the time I'm done making dinner and we eat and I get him in in a bath and stuff like that, it's bedtime. And then [snorts] I have to go to bed an hour later. I'm living to just keep living, you know, and I'm trying to take care of him because he's everything to me, but I can't [snorts] even really take care of myself right now and I don't know what else to do. >> Mhm. >> In New Mexico, we're pretty proactive with keeping families together. Um, usually they want to see families stay together, but honesty goes a long way. Um, in order for us to help you, there's a bunch of services that we can provide you. If you work with CYFD, they can get you through parenting plans. They can get you services. Maybe put him in some clubs or some youth clubs to help him and aid him, right? But you're going through a lot and it sucks. You got this ball of vile up inside of you. But [snorts] I need honesty. >> I'm being as honest as I can. >> In the moments that followed, an officer carefully asked whether there had ever been a time where things had gone too far. When Athena spoke, his words blew the case wide open, showing that his earlier claims carried little, if any, credibility. if it went overboard [snorts] and when because if he's saying that it went overboard and he's telling us and he's going to tell multiple people. He's telling his school that it [snorts] went overboard. >> The only time I've been overboard is trying to get him dressed. I'm trying to pull his clothes off of him and it's yanking him. But I don't That's it. That's the only time today where it was really overboard. >> Did it frustrate you so much right here that you pushed him into this chair? >> No. I lifted up off of his shirt and he slammed forward. So if I did, it wasn't intentional, but I don't think I was going like >> Is this the shirt right here? Or was >> No. Um, but I was trying to put on his shirt. So I guess Yeah, you're right. No, I realize that now I'm putting on his shirt. It probably pushed him down like that. >> So now you rather than taking off your his shirt, you're putting it on. >> Yes. I'm sorry. >> And it's okay. It's okay. [snorts] We're We're going to willing to work with you. That's what we're here for. I'm sorry. I'm nervous and I'm trying to We're coming with you. I really am. >> Like what? Show me. >> Probably pushing pushing down on his shirt. >> Did you do that intentionally? >> No, I was just trying to get it on his arms fast because usually what he does when I'm trying to get him dressed in moments where he has been frustrated with that is he'll start like pulling off his sleeve on his own if I can't get over his head. So, I tried to pull it over his head and just pulled it down as fast as I could. >> Were you Were you pissed off at that time? >> Yeah, I was upset. a detective is on his way here right now to come and talk to you and he's going to kind of let you know what's going on a little bit more. So, if you could for me just grab your phone, maybe like a jacket, and we can go talk outside real quick. So, what's going to happen is we're going to do a search warrant on the house. >> As officers informed her that an investigation would move inside the home, the weight of the situation became clear. Athena appeared shocked by how far things had gone. >> Before I get searched, can I have an attorney? >> It's a It's a search warrant of your house. We have to apply for it through a judge. >> Okay. >> Yeah, you you can call you can call your attorney. Yeah, definitely. >> Well, I I need one appointed to me, but I would I would appreciate that before a search. Just I want to >> So, the the search we go through the judge that that'll be explained differently. >> Um that's granted to us and we have to determine if it's granted. But in the meantime, what we do is we hold the house, right? um for an whatever amount of time without anybody in it. We secure it and we stay here and nobody else can enter or remain. Um and if the judge grants us the search warrant, then we are lawfully allowed to search it. >> Um if we're not granted, then we just give you back the residence. That That's how that works. >> Okay. So, I can't talk to my attorney before >> you can you can >> before the search. >> Yeah. Yeah. That's all I'm asking. They can't stop it. It's up to a judge. asking them to stop it. I just want to be able to speak with an attorney beforehand. >> And if if you need one appointed you, you're going to potentially have to call the public defenders office right now. And you can type in San Juan County Public Defenders Office >> um and see what they need to do in order to appoint you one right now. I'm not sure. I think there's an application process. It since you're unemployed, I think you um will qualify for it cuz there's an application process for that. >> Where do I go when it's being searched? So, the thing is is I'm just going to have you stand up. Okay? Can you stand up for me? So, right now you're just being detained, right? Um, you're under arrest right now. Okay. So, for child for right now, okay, because we believe that there's probable cause to believe [music] that there is child going on. So, I'm going to be transporting you up to the jail. >> Athena seemed unable to grasp what was unfolding. Her shock made it clear that she hadn't fully understood the impact her actions had on her own child. I've never been in the situation before, which is why I was asking the questions that I was. Okay. I don't feel like that should mean that I get detained. >> Okay. So, we have enough probable cause to believe that child abuse is occurring and that has occurred over the past couple days, if not more than that. So, we have probable cause to believe that a crime has been committed. >> The option to go outside. >> Well, I was going to detain you in handcuffs anyway and arrest >> you. Yes. >> Got it. Okay. So, that's what I was asking with that. That's perfectly fine. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't being lied to. >> No, I'm not. I'm not. >> I was giving given the option of the situation. [music] >> So, um, when do I get my one phone call? >> At Yes, you'll get a lot at the jail. >> In the end, Athena had to give custody of his child to his grandfather due to allegations of abuse and maltreatment. Next, we have a case where a concerned citizens call led officers to find out about a young individual left unattended, and that [music] was enough to pull DCF into the investigation. that you see that you know what I do with this no Gabe. >> Oh, GOD DAMN IT. OF COURSE YOU DO. I HIT ONE RIGHT NOW. >> I JUST seen three years trying to survive. >> Watch your ch. On October 29th, 2024, officers responded to a welfare check after reports of children left alone in unfit living conditions. Upon arrival, [music] they tried to contact the mother, 40-year-old Selena Galos, and assess the children's safety. >> Hi. >> Hi, Chris. How are you? >> What's going on? >> We got a call to just come check up on you. Is your mom home? >> I call you. >> Just a concerned citizen. >> You watch the music. >> Hi. Is your mom home? >> Seriously. Not home. >> Okay. >> It's like no one knows what we have called her. >> I can call her. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Do you have a phone number for her? >> Yeah. >> Okay. What's her phone number? >> I just need to call her for anything. And listen, you're here cuz you're trying to keep my brother in here. >> No, no, no, no. We just came to do um just to check on you guys. >> Can I have her phone number? Is it okay if I call her? >> [laughter] >> Hi, this is Officer Bunny Farmington Police Department. I'm trying to get a hold of Selena. >> Oh, she's right here. >> Hello. >> Hi. Is this Selena? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Hey, we're actually here at your residence right now. We're planning on doing a welfare check right here. Are you anywhere near? >> Not at the moment. >> I'm at work. >> You're at work? Okay. Well, we do need you here. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay. We'll be waiting. Okay. >> Okay. >> Thank you. Bye-bye. >> How was school today? >> Hey, we're good. >> You got to FHS? >> Yeah. >> How about that? my mom a chance to like a spare work apron >> cuz guess what? Her mom's going be barbecue dad versus sports mom versus soccer mom. So >> either you can dress up like a soccer player or it can be like a barbecue. >> Yeah. >> You know how long it be before your mom gets home? >> Normally she hangs out with her boyfriend. >> But I don't know how long it takes. Maybe like I don't know, man. I don't know. Maybe like half an hour. Maybe like maybe [music] like 45 minutes. While they waited for the mom to arrive, officers noticed the children outside, dirty and unaccompanied. Their initial conversations with the kids revealed clear signs of fear and uncertainty. >> Oh, we're going to wait for your mom out here, guys. Okay, so just so you guys are aware. >> Yeah, I'm aware. >> You guys aren't in trouble. We're just making sure you guys are okay. >> Yeah, we all right. >> Where's your shoes at? Your feet's going to get cold, man. >> It's all right. I mean, not usually I find myself a hobby. Yeah. Don't tell yourself a hobby for this. You know what? You know that. >> You know what I do with this? No, >> Gabe. My fence. >> Let's not. >> Sometimes it lands. Sometimes it does. Let's not do that. Okay. Cuz I don't want you hurt. You What if you throw it and you hit you hit somebody over there? Probably not a good idea. Okay. >> Oh, don't worry, buddy. But don't worry. It's all right. >> I'm very I'm very careful with it. Just so you know. >> I know. I'm not saying you aren't. I'm just I just let you. You know what I mean? >> Yeah. But let me guess you have to like take that away. >> Well, it's not safe. You know what I mean? Here's my job. Probably got like >> I mean, look at this stab. >> I mean, look. I mean, you see this? This was me night stuff. This is just for me night stuff. All that. You see all those freaking necks? And heck, even this thing right here. I freaking >> Hi. manager. >> Oh, you're a property manager. >> Okay. >> We're just doing a welfare check. We're waiting on mom, >> so we'll be here for a little while. Hey. Hey, [music] Chris. Doing okay. >> Oh, GOD DAMN IT. OF COURSE YOU DO. I HEAR ONE NOW. >> He doesn't like this. >> Do you have any family? >> The upholds or >> not? My sister though. >> I mean, it's mainly just mom. >> Oh, okay. You don't have the upholds or aunties? >> Nah. Where's your socks? It's cold. >> At least you got a jacket. >> That's mother's. >> Let me see that. >> That's mother's. >> Thank you, ma'am. >> Okay. >> Hey, >> sorry about her. >> That's okay. Are you talking to me or her? Me or >> I I was I was talking about her and just I don't know. I just I just don't like doing all the [music] time. >> Oh, the reason why I got mad about you in here is because I don't want mom want me to get mad at you. Thank you. >> Well, Chris, we're just checking on you, okay? To make sure everything's all right. So, we're not here to make any trouble or get you in trouble, okay? >> The mother, Selena, arrived after some delay. Visibly panicked and concerned, the officers began questioning her about the situation. >> How's it going? >> Good. How are you? >> Good. Working? >> Yeah. I'm going have you keep your hands out of your pocket, sir. Thank you. >> I'm not being investigated, though. Why you passing me? >> I'm not I just asked you to keep your hands out of your pocket, sir. >> I don't want to get >> I already spreading all kinds of bad juju. right there. Not saying to this person. What she say? >> Whoever choose. >> She Well, she's kind of his sister. They grew up together when they were kids. >> Her her dad used to date his mom and to this person. I barely talked to him. He already told me that she was talking to him earlier about saying all seeing all kinds of things and I was at work at the mess. I mean, her and I don't get along, but I haven't done the same to her. >> And I think she's she's making it personal is what she's doing. is something that for a very long time and as far as living conditions as well >> meaning dogs passing away and dogs being disposed of what whatever I don't this is just what I'm getting exposed okay >> but don't you okay I mean I I do have I do have four dogs. >> Okay. >> And I do have four puppies, but >> so so in the city, >> you can only have four dogs. Okay. So, I'm just like, you know, that thing. >> So, I [music] have to get rid of two dogs or can I just get rid of the puppies? That's all I'm waiting for as soon as they're old, but that's still a couple weeks, >> right? No. And they're still babies. >> And that that's something I'd have to talk to about be honest with you. And I know I spoke to you before, but what what's your schedule like as far as today? like [music] walking through. >> I went to work at 7 a.m. >> I go in every morning, Tuesday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 2:30. I come home. I go get from the boys ride the bus. >> I go get them dinner. She asked if I would stop by or the lady I'm doing the house for. I [music] just wanted to check a few things. He's doing guitar while I'm doing like a side project for her and often not often. Maybe for a few minutes you're running Family Dollar cuz I don't have nipple at the moment. But um >> cuz we've gotten multiple reports that you're leaving here >> and this has been multiple witnesses that you don't come home until the mornings just to wake up from school and pick it to school. And I already know the history as far as um your oldest going down armies and and hanging up, right? >> And and we've had this discussion with that. As far as today goes, I've had to contact CYFD because we think that's part of our policy. So they are I don't know yet. I I got to speak with CFD. I got to figure out what's going on. >> Selena admitted she was struggling to manage the household's condition and was visibly upset and apologetic. >> Is there anybody? But it's concerning because we've had multiple calls. I've been here first. >> I'm sure you have. >> But when when random people are calling or neighbors or whoever, it's anonymous to us. We don't know who anonymous. >> So we don't know. But we're getting multiple reports from different people, which is concerned. >> Okay. I have been to this house multiple times for child for child. Okay. This Chris keeps running away. Right. And you leaving your children on preender and leaving your 11-year-old to watch >> going anywhere. >> It doesn't matter. You can't leave your kids alone for hours. >> Going anywhere though, >> right? It took you almost 45 minutes to get you. And how long were you? >> How long are we going to be gone? She go up there and come back cuz she's not she's not at the house right now. >> And how far out is that? >> Yeah. >> So, stuff and have a good so my concern. >> All right. I have never skin. >> No, but I asked you to be a responsible parent. >> Responsible ma'am. And that's whatever your opinion is as far as goes. Okay. I have to call ID. They will be here soon. Okay. We do need to do a walk through the house to make sure that there's adequate living spaces and living with kids. >> Okay. Um where do all the children stay? Where does um [music] Calvin's? >> Most Dutch falls asleep on the couch. >> Okay. And what about Gabriel? >> Gabriel has his room. Christopher has a room. >> What about the other? What's up with the >> uh fixing it up? It's not great right now. There's no power. >> Chris, stay in there. >> He was in there to be alone. He Okay. He and his brother don't get along very well sometimes. [music] Okay. He goes in there to be alone. >> Okay. And my next contention, you know, when we get here, [music] obviously Christopher's upset because we're here and that's fine because I'm not falling. But he had he has an array of knives that he somehow I I don't know. Okay. But he had So he had a knife with like a rope on it and he swinging it around and throwing it against the fence. So >> I told you to get >> So that's that's on you. understand. I caught him with that thing the other day. I threw it away and he went and found it. >> So, take it somehow out there. I don't know. But he's out here unattended spinning that around. There's other children here. Okay. On top of that, we pull a fix that's about this long from him. Okay. Like, do you understand my concern with that? >> On the trampoline, ma'am, where the kids play. >> Here. [music] Yeah. >> Fine. >> You're neglecting me. Nobody over here even knows me over. Nobody calls me. Nobody talks to me. No one says hi. But I leave my kids alone for more than 5 minutes. And I've got SWAT team all over the neighborhood. I am not anybody in here. I just a single mother for three kids trying to survive. >> As the questioning continued, Selena shifted into a victim stance, lashing out at the neighbors who had called the police rather than taking full responsibility for the situation. Do you have >> I don't have any money for services or anything. >> They offer all that. CYP already talked to me about that multiple 200 times. >> And have you tried to get any help? >> I know about the whole Medicaid transport and appointments and they want me to do classes and all this other stuff. And >> have you have you accepted all that or is there any type of fun? I gave to my new number, but it's out of service right now. So, the only way you could reach me is here at the house or maybe at work. >> Whose phone is your daughter? >> It's my phone. It like you can still call, but like I I don't have any data or anything like that. Sometimes she gets the calls, sometimes she doesn't. Okay. Cuz she calls you perfectly fine. >> She's probably using That's why my phone says it's over minutes cuz it only gets 5 gigs and I said I've got like Yeah, it's over my limit. Okay. >> So, [music] I mean, she's able to make phone calls, right? >> Yeah. It's It's a lot of excuses that I'm getting. Okay. And not a lot of accounting >> at this point. >> Okay. So, game plan for today. >> I can never leave my house again. >> No. We'll wait for CFD to show up. Okay. We're going to do visit inside. Okay. They're probably going to talk to you. They're probably going to talk to the kiddos as far as that goes and do their investigation. Okay. People don't even know what's going on. They just see cops or they don't see me here. They're just nosy. They have no idea what's going on with me right now. >> Mhm. >> And this is all just bunch of added drama. That's completely unnecessary. I didn't do anything to anybody. I have no parents, no family. I have nobody around here. >> Is my mom going to jail? >> Oh, she's fine. >> Did you take a shower, Chris? >> Yes, I >> You can go inside if you I don't want you to stand on here while your hair's wet, cold. >> Yeah, your mom's >> Your mom's fine. Okay. But what did mom talk tell you? >> That that's more of an adult conversation, Chris. So, we're going to wait till mom comes back out. Okay. Can you maybe get mom for us? Is >> she inside? >> Do you want mom out? >> Yeah. Can we talk to her again? >> Mom will get pissed off. >> No, we won't. Nobody's mad. Nobody's mad. Cuz >> you're fine. >> Say, I told you mom hates it when you're here. >> And plus, we don't want you to get sick. Here's the blood. >> I'm sorry. I can't. I just can't. >> As Selena faced the reality of the situation, officers began a thorough inspection of the home's hazardous conditions. >> Oh, don't let the dogs get out. >> Oh, sorry. >> Man, it's a workout. >> Can you go get your mom, please? >> She's literally freaking out right now. >> Okay, tell her we we need her at the door right now. >> And the thing is, she at me cuz of my freaking rope spear thing. >> You're not trouble. Did you get your mom? >> She's coming right now. you guys can come in. >> Okay, thank you. So, like I said, SA wanted to do their visit as well as we do have to do A WHOLE DRIVE THROUGH QUESTIONS TO TALK TO you about too. Um, so as far as you said, where where does everyone sleep? [snorts] >> Most well, they have their rooms, but mostly we sleep in here cuz we don't have the internet at the moment. So, we watch movies. >> Yeah. with the only with the only >> escape. >> Do I have to take you or can you guys >> you want I'll just let you guys watch your [snorts] [ __ ] pack. It's in the process of cleaning, but it's Yeah. Okay. Go do what you got to do. It's okay, man. >> Can I talk to each of your kids by themselves? Maybe we'll just go outside. >> Yep. That's Watch your crunches at the bottom. >> You usually sleep in here and hang out. >> Yeah, I do sleep. >> I sleep here. >> Sleep here. >> Do you watch TV in here sometimes? at 2241 oral. >> If if there's internet here, I could, but right now there's no internet. >> No. Okay. Can I look back there? Is that a bathroom? What is that? >> Yeah. Sorry, but that one's off limits. It's the bathroom, but you don't want to look in there. >> All right. I won't look in there. All right. Well, cool. Nice little hangout spot. I appreciate it. >> Okay. I'll I'll go get my stuff. >> I'll go over here, guys. I just need to get my stuff. Appreciate it, Chris. Thank you. >> Got my stuff packed in. >> Okay. >> Call Dave. >> Hey, >> are Gable and Kaylin in the call yet? Such a >> They're getting their stuff. Yeah, they're getting their stuff. >> Despite the terrible conditions, [music] officers stayed calm and focused on keeping the children safe and comfortable. For Selena, however, things quickly took a serious turn as the evidence of neglect left little doubt about her failure as a parent, prompting officers to take action. >> You going to stop? >> Oh, we're having So, we're just having to stay the night with you guys. >> Yep. if you're going to stay in like over here. So, let's grab your bag and you can put it. Your brother's in the car already. Okay. >> Yep. And the thing is we will be back home tomorrow. >> Um, just depends. Okay. >> Depends. That's possible. >> Yeah. >> Possible cuz I came out myself. >> That's okay. >> Just for the night. That's okay. >> It'll be okay. You guys, give me just a second. >> I just hope and come back because the thing is if we have to get a ticket to the first home, we need to get brought back so I can take the suitcase and everything else with me. >> That's okay. We're not worry about we'll worry about tonight. As long as you have stuff for the evening, we'll be good to go. Okay. >> Yeah. Yep. And >> they're taking off to Jubble. We gave them this flag >> and actually making a school. >> Oh yeah, you guys will go to school. So embarrassing. [music] >> And that's say and let's say it's actually a spirit week. So I hope you have an apron over at CFD cuz I do barbecue death. It's like on Wednesdays there's like a spirit week going on my school but Wednesday like barbecue dad like a soccer player or like a like like a dad cooking like barbecue. I don't want to do that. So yeah, I need on like an apron or something. >> An apron. Okay, let's see what we got. Yeah. Like I don't care if it's like a green apron, a blue apron, a black apron. >> Just an apron. Apron. >> It's just an just like any apron. Just like any apron. I just like I just hope we can get these dogs taken care of. >> Yeah. Yeah. We'll get him. >> Well, let's get you in the vehicle. She's looking for a jacket for him. >> Oh, perfect. >> All right. Have you put your hands on you're under arrest right now? It's going to be for child. Okay. >> Patrol for the dogs. >> It doesn't mean that they're going to just like you sent off.
