You don't have to look if you don't want. >> Yeah. Damn. >> Officers are trained to handle extreme situations. But what happens when they encounter a crime scene so horrifying that it's hard to process what lies before them? >> She in there. >> I got it. I got it. I got it. Josh, stay in here. I got it. I got it. I got it. I got >> These were the moments when officers faced horrifying crime scenes. We begin with a case where a late night patrol led officers straight into a scene no one was prepared for. >> Massive injury inside of her left side of her head. They found a showcase. >> Oh my god. His baby mama had no clue that she was pregnant. I said, "Record it because I knew I knew something was off." >> On November 11th, 2022, officers from Stanford discovered an idling vehicle at Coastline Park with an unresponsive female inside. What started as a routine check quickly turned into something far more serious. >> Where's the physical injuries? >> Uh, yeah. She's bleeding from the head. >> You lock or is the window? >> All right. You got on. >> Oh, that's a lot of >> you calling. >> Yeah, I'm going to call this, >> but it's open on this side. And she's been for a while. >> She got a massive injury inside of her, left side of her head. They found a showcasing. >> Uh where? >> Um off the gas tank. >> Like a parking spot over. >> And no gun. >> No. >> Was the car unlocked when you guys got here? Different door. The door or the window is down. >> Her purse is there. Her wallet's there. Everything's there. So, >> but both the seats are laid back, >> right? >> That's what >> Which means they're probably sitting there chilling. Something might have happened. >> Yeah. >> You know what I mean? Something might happen. Person got out and left. >> What's on that monitor on the uh radio? >> What's on the radio? >> Brian. Brian, with the phone, you think we should get digital out here to see if they can um download the phone. >> Why don't you photograph it? I'd rather be safe, though. I maybe at least see if her picture or something's on the background. If not, we might be safer just to do a performance >> just to make sure that it's her phone. >> Yeah. >> After finding 18-year-old Kayn Fiano unresponsive in her vehicle, officers secured the crime scene and recovered an ultrasound photo inside her car. As investigator Sharon Nettles began piecing together the evidence, an anxious woman suddenly approached officers claiming to be Kayn's close friend with crucial information. >> Hello. Good afternoon. Um, can I talk to you when I step out of the box? Please talk. >> Um, >> I'm the investigator. >> Okay. I'm not sure it's about nothing that's going on. >> You came here. Are you trying to talk about your friend? >> Okay. So, so this has to do with her? >> Oh my god. >> Is he on the phone? >> I'm not on the phone. >> Okay. Okay. Do you have your ID on you? First off, cuz you like I thought everybody was talking. >> I don't have it on me cuz I just rushed out the house cuz I just felt something was off. >> Okay. Simone, I'm investigating letters. Um and um you know, uh we actually found her here. Uh I need to ask you some questions to report out or anything. It's important that you focus. When was the last time you spoke to her? Was it on the phone or text message? >> Okay, I'm going to tell you exactly. I'm going to show you. >> Um, the last time I spoke to her was 7:08 p.m. today. Yes, today. All right. And what was the conversation about? >> Um, can I see it? Okay. Um, she Okay. So, she has a son. Okay. So, she has a son. She she moved because there's a situation going on where she she got pregnant by somebody else, whatever. And he had he had a different baby mama. Um and then he was involved with somebody that had a child. Okay. Is she pregnant? >> She is. >> Okay. How many months? >> She's she's >> she doesn't look big. So she's >> 13 weeks. >> So she was going to meet up with that baby daddy. >> She was meeting up with second her second baby daddy. The >> one that she's pregnant with. >> Correct. Okay. which is Donovan. >> Devastated by the news of what had happened to Kalin, her friend Simone struggled to process the tragedy, she revealed that Kalin was 13 weeks pregnant and had gone to Coastline Park to meet the unborn child's father. But as Sharon pressed for details, Simone disclosed the father's identity and a troubling pattern of behavior. >> So, she was coming to meet Donovan for what reason? >> So, she wanted they wanted to talk. >> Okay. >> No, he wanted to talk to her about they were talking. Yeah. >> So, okay. Um, yeah. They were supposed to talk. >> Yes. So, so she told me that she was meeting him. >> She told me that she was meeting him. >> Is there are they in a relationship or they just He just They were pregnant. They were sneaking. She got pregnant. >> Okay. And is he like married? Is he in a current relationship? >> He's in a current relationship. He has a daughter. She She just was born. >> Okay. So, then they hooked up. She got pregnant. >> Yeah, but this was she didn't know about the other girl. >> Okay. She didn't know. She was hooking up with him. Okay. So, tell me what she said um with your conversation that she was going to meet up with him. >> It's really important that you tell me everything you know cuz you >> That's your friend, right? >> Can you please tell me she she's not here? Like what's Can you just tell me? >> Okay. So, yes, your friend, she's no longer with us. Okay. >> There's no way. No. No. And this is why it's so important for you to tell me all the details that you know so that we can figure out what happened tonight. Okay. Oh my god. Oh my god. >> Take a deep breath. Like I said, everything that you're going to tell me right now is going to help in the investigation. And if you're friend, I need you to tell me all the details. >> Okay. I know. I know she's come to meet Donovan. I don't know. I don't know if he could have set her up. I don't know. >> What do you mean set her up? I don't >> What would give you that? Um >> because Okay, he I'm not going to say he's crazy, but like he like Okay, the last time that they met up or whatever, he his baby mama had no clue that she was pregnant last time. >> So, she met up with him. They were just sitting in the car. They didn't do anything. He got her phone and deleted um he deleted their messages. So basically that she would have proof to show. >> Simone identified 20-year-old Donovan Faison as the father, revealing that he had been pressuring Calin to end her pregnancy to protect his current relationship. Days earlier, Calin had exposed the truth to Donovan's girlfriend, setting off a chilling chain of events. >> She texted his baby mama, okay, and told and told um told him told her told her that she was pregnant. Okay. But she told So she told her baby mama. He started blowing her phone. She told me last night that um he had texted her. He had texted her and said, "I want to talk." This is what he said yesterday, Thursday, November 10th. I don't know why you keep blocking me. I ain't going to argue with you. I just want to talk. It's cool though. I said, "Record it." Because she was like, "I'm scared. I'm parked at the damn park right by his house." And so he lives over here around >> his mom. >> His mom lives right here. >> Yeah. Okay. Do we know his mom's name? >> Mm-m. Okay. And I said record it because I knew I knew something was off. He doesn't go longer than an hour without texting or calling me. Like and I had been blowing up her phone for like 3 hours like Kaylin like what's going on? Like hello. Like I FaceTime her no nothing. Like there was nothing. Like absolutely nothing. On November 16th, 2022, 5 days after the tragic incident, Sanford police arrived outside Donovan Faison's apartment with a search warrant with serious evidence against him, officers prepared to bring Donovan in for questioning. >> Search warrant. >> Staff police department with the search warrant. He came out. >> I'm going to go talk to him up there and then see if his >> but uh Here you go. >> How you doing? >> Hold on. Can I talk to my pants right quick? >> All right. What we do is we're going to step out here real quick. >> Yeah. Get get you away from everything. No, you're good, baby. We're good. >> You want me to sit in the car? I ain't I ain't going to care. I just I ain't get to wipe my ass yet. I'm so serious. >> You're good. You're good, baby. Here. Okay. Come on. Come on. Here. You're good. You're good. You're good. Escorted to a patrol car, Donovan sat down with Sharon to address the rumors tying him to what had happened to Kayn Fienna. But his account was totally opposite of what Caen's friend told the officers. >> Heard everything that's been going on. >> Yeah, I heard. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, the best thing is for us to clear some things up with you, right? >> Okay. >> Okay. So, why do you think we're here? >> Because people been pitting in my name and of what happened? >> Okay. Well, you talking about the girl found in the park? >> Yeah. >> Okay. So tell me why are people putting your name out there like that? >> Because me and her we used to have some sort of relation. >> Okay. Like was it like a friendship like relationship? >> Relationship. >> Did you know that she was pregnant? >> Yeah, I did know she was pregnant. >> Uh how did you know? >> She told me. She told me she was pregnant through DM. >> Okay. And what if she just told you I'm pregnant or did she did she think it was your baby? She said it was mine and then she said it wasn't mine and then at the time I I was pretty sure it wasn't mine. >> Okay. >> So I was I was pretty sure it wasn't mine so I wasn't really too worried. >> When is the last time you saw her? >> So >> I'm not I'm not 100% sure. Maybe a couple weeks. >> A couple weeks. >> Maybe a month. >> Okay. >> I don't I don't remember. >> When was the last time you actually talked to her at all? like whether text message, phone or anything like that. >> I don't know. >> Well, if you had to guess >> maybe in early October. >> Okay. >> About early October. >> What What happened that ended you guys' I guess little relationship? >> Uh we stopped because >> Sorry. >> All right. We stopped because she cuz that's my girlfriend. So, >> okay. What's your name? >> Sierra. >> Okay. Mhm. >> And so, they Well, I just say I just stopped messing with her because, you know, she started texting my girl and then she was like, "Oh, you know, yeah, we was linking up, da da." So, me and my girl got into it. She ended up moving out and then that's really what stopped it. >> Who ended up moving out? Her? >> Yeah. She ended up >> So, she got mad at you. >> Mhm. Yeah. Someone. >> Why did she move out? because she found out that me and her had a relationship. >> Oh, so so she was mad. She's like, "I'm leaving." >> Yeah. But then she came She came back like the next day. She just wanted to clear her clear her head. >> Mhm. When did she find out? Was it like >> That was like in August. >> And then you said that Sierra found out um because she messaged her, right? And then >> Yeah. Kayen messaged her. >> Kaylin messaged her. And then what did uh did Kayn ask you for anything when she got pregnant? Did she say anything like, "Oh, um, you know, I need this, I need that." Was there anything like that? Like, did you guys ever argue? Did you guys ever argue about her being pregnant or anything like that? >> We had like disagreements, but it was nothing like major. Like, we stopped talking, then she ended up probably texting me maybe a couple days later or something, and we back right on terms. >> Donovan insisted he spent the entire night babysitting at home and had not seen Kayn in over a month. But as Sharon began challenging his timeline, Donovan's calm demeanor quickly started to crack. >> You know her friend Simone? Did you know about Simone? That's one of her friends. >> Yeah, I know Simone. >> Simone. That's I guess those are her close friends. Um, so I guess she had the like most of her friends were under the impression that you were supposed to be hanging out with her on Friday. >> No, I wasn't hanging out with her. I didn't even meet up with her. >> Oh, okay. Were you Were you supposed to meet up with her? >> No, I wasn't supposed to meet up her. I wasn't supposed to do nothing with her. I didn't even we didn't have no conversation of meeting up, nothing. >> Mhm. And is um where were you on Friday then? >> Here babysitting. >> Oh, okay. >> My girl went my girl, she went out to Orlando. >> Mhm. So you were here with the baby? >> Yeah, I was here with the baby >> on Friday. >> Friday night. >> Okay. Friday night, like all night. >> Yes. Went to my mom's house for like probably like an hour or two and came straight back in. >> Where does your mom live? um in that area over there like in Goldber community. >> Oh, okay. You don't know her address? >> I do. >> What's her address? >> Is that something that I have to give to you? >> No, I'm just asking. I just want to give your name. >> I don't want to give >> I'm not going to go talk to your mom. I just >> No, you if you That's That's I just want to make sure you know everything's lining up. So, that's >> I was at I was I was with my mom I was at my mom house and they they can clarify that. >> Have you been to Coastline Park? No, not recently. Probably last time I've been probably like a years ago. Oh, >> okay. Do you know where the park is at? >> Yeah, I'm I'm pretty sure I know where it's at. >> Okay. Is it close to any of your family members? Do they live around there? Any of them? >> Yeah, my mom. >> Okay. Oh, so your mom lives close to there? >> Somewhat close. Yeah, >> and um do you have uh any weapons at home? >> I don't have no weapons. >> Okay. Have you ever carried any weapon? Have a concealed weapons license or anything like that? >> No. No. Farthest was a BB gun. farthest was a BB gun. >> Oh, okay. A BB gun. Does Sierra have any weapons? >> She don't have no weapons. >> Okay. I'm just asking. Um, and then like I said, thank you again for talking. No problem. >> Is there anything else you think I should know? >> I don't really want to talk anymore. >> Okay, you're done talking. >> With Donovan's questioning coming to an unexpected halt, Sharon turned her attention to his girlfriend, Sierra. Wanting to verify Donovan's statements, the investigator prepared to see if Sierra's account would protect him or tear his alibi apart. >> You know, we're investigating. a homicide of a female and um that's why we're here today. So, I'm going to go ahead and extend the same offer to you. Do you want to speak to me and tell me anything that you have to say about this? >> So, your name is Sierra, right? >> Um tell me what you know like how did this Kayn person come into your life? >> Well, she cheated on me. >> Okay. She texted me last two weeks last last week or two weeks. My dad um she texted me saying that supposedly he had got her pregnant. This was all he said she said. >> She said two weeks each around two weeks ago. >> A week ago she had texted me very about it. >> How did she text you? Like did she have your number or was it through? >> She had text me on Instagram. >> On Instagram. Okay. And then when was the last time you actually >> huh? That was it. >> And um what has Donovan said about to you? Like when you confronted him about the cheat >> that he was sorry about that it had met through Instagram. >> Mhm. And did you confront him about the baby possibly being his? >> Oh yeah. >> And what did he >> He said that it wasn't his. >> Okay. He was very sure that he would get a paternity test and everything. And on Friday the 11th, um, where were you at? >> He was at his mom's [clears throat] house. >> Okay. Did he, um, what time did you? >> I'm not sure, but he was at home around like 8:30 cuz I was going up that night. >> Why do you think that people keep saying that Donna has some kind of involvement in this? >> Have you heard anything? cuz you hear people talking. >> Yeah, I heard. What does everybody say? >> Sierra attempted to account for Donovan's whereabouts during the key hours of the incident, but just as officers finished taking her statement, a sudden development at the scene threatened to completely upend their claims. >> This is just weren't clear, >> which you already searched. Um, yes. But because it's dark outside and all that, we're actually going to tow the car and [snorts] then search it and then return it. And then when we do an inventory on that, just like we'll leave you an inventory of the things we're taking from your residence, we'll give back to you as well. >> Are you telling me when you're taking from my residence today? >> Yes, there's an inventory sheet left on there for you. >> Yeah. But I will be able to get my phone back, right? >> Yeah, you're going to get your phone back um after we um down. What's your password? Uh, I prefer not to say it. >> Oh, yeah. >> In the end, cell phone data placed Donovan Faison directly at Coastline Park during the time of the incident while deleted text messages exposed his mother. In October 2025, a jury convicted Donovan Faison of first-degree [music] murder and the death of an unborn child. Two months later, a judge handed him a capital sentence. Moving on to the next case, a routine welfare check in Detroit led officers directly to an unthinkable discovery. I confess. Who go back to? What' you do? Can I talk to your private piece? I'm nervous. >> Where's the baby? >> Damn the You think you him in the chest that day? Did it to him? >> On June 24th, 2022, officers from Detroit responded to a home on Mon Vista Street for a welfare check on three-year-old Chase Allen, who had not been seen in months. What began as a routine call quickly spiraled into something far darker than anyone expected. >> So, it's not here, it's broken. Where is it broke or is it just not here? Or is it both? No, it's not here. >> How long has baby been gone? >> Uh, three months. >> Three months. >> Mhm. >> So, has the baby been the plan for 3 months? >> Yes. >> I mean, I don't see what's I asked fathers to get him because I just had a baby and he's blind and he needed special attention and she >> Okay. Where did she live at? >> Um, I'm not sure. So, you gave your baby to somebody that you don't you don't know her whereabouts. You don't know where she lives. owner. No, you don't know none of that. No. Okay. So, I'm going to need you get my officers permission to go in. Can they check this house? Make sure this baby is not in his house. >> He's not here. >> Okay. Can we come in and make sure he's not in this house? >> Do you have a search warrant? I'm asking permission. Can we come in and check this house for this child? violent not >> don't have any right this expedition >> what you come back to what you do can I talk to you private please no phone no that phone I will just give you my phone so they can handle >> how many kids in the house [crying] >> five [screaming] are they here you the only adult here >> the woman at the door was Chase's mother, 34year-old Azered France. At first, Azered claimed her son was with a friend, but then her story shifted and suddenly she announced a confession to make. >> I'm scared. >> Don't listen. >> It was a listen. >> He was and I was scared. >> Where is he? >> In the basement. >> I was scared. I was so Okay. Have a seat. Have a seat. Have a seat. Have a seat. Okay. You said he's Where? >> I'm nervous. >> Where's the baby? >> I'm nervous. >> You said he in the basement refrigerator. >> Yes. >> I'm nervous. >> When did When did he passed away? How long ago? >> In March. The end of March. He was And I didn't want to take you. >> Okay. Put your foot in the car. We'll get you some shoes. You need some We got to call Mana Vista. Uh my unit came over here for a wellbeing check for CPS. 3-year-old was missing for 3 months. The mother stories was inconsistent. She said that she gave the baby away to the hospital. Then she said she gave the baby away to a friend. I come over here. I ask her, you know, a few questions about, you know, the baby and the whereabouts. She confessed to me that this baby is deceased in the basement in her house and refrigerator. So, I have 32 units over here. They're checking inside the house to confirm that. >> France finally revealed where her son was pointing toward the basement. What officers were about to find inside would confirm their worst fears. >> She has some trust in the basement in the freezer. >> Detroit police or is it >> Detroit police? If you're down here, say something. Hey, Troy. Police are right. You guys don't want to see them though. Yes. >> Um I'm going to guess what's in the bag. I don't have gloves. >> I don't either. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Yeah, that's a dog. No. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Damn. So >> you want I got >> it's a >> confirmed. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> A skele skeleton maze. >> Taken in for questioning. France gave her version of events. A story that shifted again as detectives began pressing for details. >> How you doing, man? >> My name is Detective Ryzen. I'm going to be talking to you for a little bit. Okay. >> Mhm. >> So can you tell me how he >> Okay. He passed. >> He wasn't eaten. Okay. He he's blind and he suffers from like medical issues. So he was >> blind and what else? >> Um he like wouldn't eat or anything like he needed special attention like far as he was having >> he was so there was other medical. So do can do you know the other medical >> seizures? >> So he had epilepsy or [clears throat] >> Yes. And Okay. So the I woke I tried to wake him up that morning and he didn't wake up. He wasn't breathing or anything. So I laid I laid him on the hallway floor and I said I thought to myself I said what am I going to do? I picked up my phone and I was going to call but I I was scared. So I just took him and put him in the basement. >> So he when How long ago was that? >> The end of March. The end of March. >> The end of March. >> Yes. >> So you're saying you woke up one morning and he was already dead. >> Yes. >> Yes. He had to cuz he wasn't breathing. I was about to wake him up. Where did he sleep? >> In the room with the kids. >> In a bed. In a bed by himself or >> Yes. The kids was in my room and he was in there >> by himself. >> Yep. >> And he's how old? >> Three. >> And when you say he wasn't eating, were you trying to feed him? >> Yes, I was. I went and bought the um powder from GNC, the weight powder, >> protein powder. >> And I bought the insurance. I did everything I could. He wasn't eating. And I did. I was tried to take him to the doctor. >> I was scared. I was scared that they was going to take my other kids. I was so scared. >> So when he when how long had he not been eating? >> Um like couple weeks >> and you never and you never took him to the doctor or anything to try to figure out what was going on >> cuz you were afraid they were going to take your other kids. >> Yes. >> But if it's >> I knew cuz he was >> right. But if it's not if it's a medical condition, >> I should have took him did the right thing. >> But Okay. So at the end of March, you're saying you woke up one morning. >> Mhm. Cuz I made the kids breakfast and I went in there to get him up and I gave him some water and he fell back down. So I'm like, he's not breathing. >> What do you mean he fell back? So he was up? >> No, he wasn't up. Like I set him up but he wasn't responding. >> Was he cold? I mean, >> yeah, he was. >> Lance walked detectives through the moments after Chase's. But there were still some questions she wasn't answering. >> So explain to me at that point what like exactly what you did. >> Okay. I found one of the plast bags and I put them in >> like a laundry bag. >> Yep. And then I put them I walked him downstairs and put them in the basement. But I wouldn't >> So you put them in the bag first? >> Yes. >> Upstairs? >> Uhhuh. In the hallway. >> You put them in the bag. Then you carried the bag down into the basement. >> Yes. >> And you have a refrigerator in the basement. >> Uh-huh. A freezer. >> Is it like a like a >> It's It was there when I moved there. It's like >> Well, describe it to me. Is it Does it look like a refrigerator? Does it look like one of those like deep freezers that's kind of like this big? >> No, it's a old back in the day refrigerator. It don't It doesn't have a freezer. Just >> just one big refrigerator. >> Yeah. >> Like one big like a door. >> Yeah. >> Was is it plugged in? Was it working? >> It was working, but I don't know what happened. >> And I swear I was going to turn myself into everything. I was >> So So at the end of March, so you put him in there >> and then that was it? >> Yes. >> You never checked. You never tried to move the body. You never tried to [clears throat] do anything with it? >> No. I went down there like a couple of weeks ago and I just got on my knees and prayed and I cried. When did you discover that the refrigerator wasn't working? >> Um, last week. >> Last week. >> Yes. >> So, when you initially put him in there, the refrigerator was working. >> Yes, it was. >> While speaking with Francet, investigators shifted their focus toward the family dynamics and the child's father, wanting to check if anyone else was involved or aware of the situation. Officers pushed France to clarify who else lived inside the home. >> Who all was home when that happened? >> Just me and the kids. >> Nobody else lives there. No, none of your baby daddies. >> No boyfriend. They're not going to find cuz you know they're searching the house right now. >> So there's no male clothing or somebody's stuff there that lives there. >> He wasn't there at the time. >> Who's he? >> My baby daddy. >> What's it? >> Um I lied and told him he was with Cuz he did ask and I told him he was with a lady but he don't know he was in the basement. >> And what's his name? >> Lamar Taylor. >> So your other >> Mhm. >> What's his date of birth? >> Um who the dad? >> Yeah. Where is he right now? at work, I think. >> Where does he work at? >> Landscaping >> at night. They don't cut grass at night. >> Well, he was at work earlier. I'm sorry. I don't know where he is now. >> What kind of car does he drive? >> Um, a black Tahoe. >> I understand if you're trying to protect somebody. >> No, I'm >> Hold on. Hold on. Okay. Like I just want to make sure and I'm not accusing you of lying to me or trying to be an a-hole or anything like that. Okay? Just hear me out, okay? >> I understand this your baby daddy. It's the father of your some of your kids. >> Mhm. >> You know, if something happened and you're trying to cover up for him, you need to think about your other kids. >> No. >> And you need to be there for them. >> No. So if he did something to that child >> and you're trying to cover up for him, you should just you need to tell me. >> No, I swear. >> So for 4 months, he didn't ask. >> Yes, he asked. And not >> he never didn't I [clears throat] mean 4 months is a long time for a kid to be away. >> Yeah. He >> and for him not to wonder where this child is. He's not the father of that child. >> No, he was wondering where he was. He kept asking me and I kept lying and saying he was with someone >> and he kept saying that that didn't sound right to him. >> His dad >> incarcerated. >> He's in jail. >> Mhm. >> None of uh his family members ever came and visited a child or anything like that. Grandma or nothing? >> No. >> Okay. >> While France initially claimed her actions were driven by fear of losing her remaining children, further investigation painted a far more sinister picture. As detectives interviewed family members, troubling details started to emerge. So when what happened? >> I wasn't. >> Okay. >> I didn't use him. >> Okay. And when you said, you got to tell me what you >> whooped him with a belt. >> Whoop him with a belt. >> Mhm. >> What belt was you whooping him with? >> About under the belt. >> Okay. And when you was whooping. >> Come on. >> He was crying. And I did leave on. All right. And see, and this the point we got to get to where the cause of what happened to him. >> I was whooping him. >> Well, I I got the whooping part. What point did it come too much to whoopens and everything? >> I don't know. >> What happened? >> Okay. He went to eat and I just took it overboard. What you do? I >> start him and then I one time that was it. >> Where you at? >> I think his chest. >> Okay. What happened after him in his chest? >> He laid down and I went to go check on him and he was okay. But the next morning he didn't I tried to feed him and he didn't get up. >> Mhm. >> Was your shoes on when you >> No. >> Shoes off? >> Yes. >> Did he What else you do after? You say you just you just >> With the truth finally coming out, France admitted to acts that went far beyond what she had first described. What she described next revealed a pattern of behavior far more disturbing than she had first admitted. >> Let's get into February March this year when you said you me in the chest. >> Mhm. >> Was that the was the next day when he woke up? >> Uh-huh. >> He did I mean when he didn't wake up? >> No. >> Didn't wake. What time of the day did you him in the chest? >> That was that night. the night in the chest. >> And you said you you went overboard that day. >> Yeah. I just I was so frustrated that he wasn't doing what I told him to do and I just >> What was you telling me? >> I put it out on him eat >> and tell me when he got to go to the bathroom and stuff >> and he wouldn't tell you. >> No. And I shouldn't have did it, but >> I blame myself. Mhm. >> Do you think you hit him in the chest that day? Did it to him? >> I could have. >> I'm not sure. >> Not sure. But you know, he didn't wake up the next day. >> No. And I went in there to try to feed him and give him something to drink. Like I set him up and he fell back down. >> You set him up, he fell back down. At what time did you did you um you said all over you said on his body? >> Mhm. >> Where was the at? >> I think his back and his chest. >> His back and chest. >> Mhm. >> What type of were they? >> Like whips. >> Whips. And where they come from? >> And you said he had no clothes on, right? >> No. >> All right. Do you have any on his head anywhere? >> No. Anytime. Anytime. Let me ask you. Anytime that you tie Chase up? >> Yes. >> When did you tie him up? >> I can't remember. But I did tie him up a few times. >> Where at? >> Um like this and then I whoop him with a belt. >> So you tie him tie his arms up then whoop him with a belt. >> Mhm. >> In the end, Azerad France was charged with multiple serious felony offenses in connection with the case, including offenses involving a child and the concealment of evidence. In July 2024, she pleaded guilty to secondderee murder [music] and was sentenced to 35 to 60 years in prison. Next up, a family dispute that began with a mother and daughter fighting in a driveway ended in a way no one could have imagined. >> Got a lot of on the upper like main living area. >> They were fighting in here getting really physical up against her car. >> Sit down. Stay on your stomach. >> Someone who hears me, please call my mom. On April 14th, 2025, deputies from Dayne County were dispatched to a home in Blue Mountains, Wisconsin, after a neighbor reported two women fighting in a driveway. It was the second time in less than 24 hours that police had been called to this address. But this time, the outcome would be far more devastating. >> 4617, do we have any history here? There's one prior call where the mom was reporting that her daughter died some of this possibly excited delirium. What was the date on that? yesterday. >> We got a ton of just to note here in Blue Mountains call, we've got a lot of on the upper like main living area on the floor as well as a threshold of what I believe is the bathroom. Copy. Are you guys inside? >> Negative. I'm seeing this through the open sliding glass door in the back. AC and there's key. It looks like keys on the floor. I don't know what that thing is next to the vent. >> Speaking with the neighbor who called 911, it became clear that the situation was far more than a heated argument. After grasping the description of the altercation, officers started to understand what had happened moments before they arrived. >> The mom got out here. The mom left. Was the daughter with her? >> The daughter was not from what I saw in the car. >> Uh I believe the daughter's inside. They were fighting in here getting really physical up against her car. Um daughter was completely front yard. So I, you know, if that wasn't the case, I would probably try to separate them, but I just called straight away. No weapons that I could see. Yeah. >> So did you hear anything they were saying? >> No, just screams. Uh that's why >> who was screaming >> both screaming and she was kind of >> who was she? >> The daughter >> the daughter was the mom. >> That's what it looked like. >> And then uh it looked like she told her to go inside and >> mom told daughter. >> That's right. And then they both stood and then she uh when I came back and looked for you >> and then you saw the mom leave in the car. >> At this point with troubling evidence on the ground and no one answering the door, officers feared someone could still be inside. Believing the daughter Sierra was the one in danger. They decided what to do next. >> Police department. >> She's upstairs. I got I got tangered. >> Police department. >> She in there up. >> Now I got it. I got it. I got it. Josh, stay in here. I got it. I got it. I got it. I got it. >> How many Where are we at for the neck? >> In the neck. >> Yeah, >> we got one in the chest. All right. >> Something to put pressure on. >> Make sure 911 is called down. >> Begin by exposing patients chest. Remove or touch clothing if needed. Firmly place. >> Let me wait. >> Officers discovered an injured and unresponsive woman. They believed it was Sierra and immediately began first aid. But as they worked to save her, a radio call came in about a female who had crashed a car nearby. And that was when the pieces came together. >> Son, if you're going to stay here, I'm going to go with Stacy. road. Female standing outside 502. I'm in contact. Female is not covering. You guys got me. I got >> I got you. Somebody get off the radio. Got it. >> Stay low. >> Stay on Stay on the ground. >> Stay on the ground. >> Stay on the ground. >> Stay on the ground. >> I need somebody over here on this arm. I got her arm down. >> Sit down. >> Stay on your stomach. >> Bring it back. Give me your hand now. >> He's not resisting. >> Sierra. >> Yes, I'm here. >> Okay. Thank you. Sierra, we got an ambulance coming. Okay. >> Yep. >> Are you hurt anywhere? >> Tell us what you're feeling right now. Are you anywhere? >> I don't think so. >> Okay. >> Sarah, did you hurt your mom today or did your mom hurt you? >> She hurt me. >> How' she hurt you? >> She never left me. >> She never love it. >> No. >> Any injuries as a result of the crash? >> No. I My body is amazing. It's like the most powerful thing in the world. >> Okay. And I have a great heart and soul in mind. And other people don't appreciate it. I love myself. I've done everything I thought I would in a situation. And I learned I learned so much >> cuz I love myself because I love someone else, too. >> I did it for both of us. >> Back at the scene, paramedics arrived for Heather, but it was too late. Sierra, however, was being treated. And on the way to the hospital, the things she said gave officers a chilling look into her state of mind. >> Ready to go? >> Yeah. ready together. >> Shortly, I will be in the ambulance with new glaris heading to you. I'm going to have a partner meeting me there, but also if a detective could meet me there as well. >> Can you tell me how old you are? >> I am. >> I don't know anything. >> I I don't know anything. >> Okay. >> And crazy in room. >> Where do you think you are right now? >> I think that I don't know like it's a simulation or the matrix and that sounds crazy. >> Okay. >> But I also think it's sort of real. >> Okay. And so what >> and I don't know what's good and what's not and I'm okay with that. >> Do you know what happened to you? >> I think I I think I don't know what happened to me. I don't know. >> Okay. >> I always want to know and I don't know. >> You don't have to know. That's okay. Do you know if you have any medical problems? Do you have like anxiety, depression? Have you tried medication for those? >> I used to and then I stopped. >> After being taken into custody, Sierra was transported to the hospital. That's when she suddenly said something that changed everything. >> Who are you? >> I'm a detective with the sheriff's office. My name's Jason. >> What's your name? >> Jason Walters. >> Okay. Just can I >> I I'll let you go. >> Can I see your badge? >> It's right here. >> Can I I don't have my glasses. I can't see it. >> It's right here. No, >> I'm not going to let go of your hand until you just mine. >> Yep. >> Okay, Tim. >> Tim. >> Yep. >> Okay. We're here to make sure you're okay. >> Nothing bad's going to happen here soon. >> Yeah. >> Please. >> Can I call my mom at some point? >> Not right now. >> Can you tell me when? >> Tell you when? >> Like a time frame? I don't know right now, but as soon as I do know something, I will let you know. Okay. >> I don't know when I'm supposed to stay calm and when I'm not because sometimes I think you're hurting me. >> Am I hurting your hand right now? >> Well, no. You're hurting my heart because of my mom. I want my mom. Someone who hears me, please call my mom. >> Sier, >> you're a police officer. >> Aren't you concerned about like if other people might be hurt somewhere? Cuz I'm concerned my mom might be hurt. >> Okay. And so I think their ambulance should be sent for her. >> Okay. >> What do you think she needs? >> Yeah. >> My mom. >> Yeah. I mean, I got to tell them why they're gone. >> I think I might have hurt her. >> Okay. >> I might have gone crazy. >> Like for a bit. >> Okay. >> And she might be hurt. I her. >> Okay. >> I I I don't care if I get arrested cuz I did not want to do it. I I love my mom and I'm so scared and that's why I want someone to go check on her. Detectives brought in a crisis counselor to help Sierra. That's when she began to open up about what had happened inside the house. Are >> you going to tell me what happened today or I can tell you you know what I know about it so far? You want to let me know kind of what was going on or >> Yeah, I have been feeling like aren't real. I don't think you people are real or good people, real people. And I think I and you can burn that far like that's whatever. So kind of what happened from what I was reading is that you and your mother after you guys got into a fight when you were out in the drive that's kind of how I called the 911 to attend you. So what was what was going on? Why were you guys fighting? She wasn't really my mom. Okay. I had a and it happened really fast. So like the other day it was a slow thing where I started to feel more and then it was like super quick and I had no it was just I thought that that was what could happen. Okay. Is she okay? I don't think so. Um, still being investigated to find out. Is she alive? I I don't think so. >> I'm really sorry to bring that to you. >> That sounds like that's not something he likes to do then. As Sierra continued speaking, it was becoming clear that her state of mind was the reason behind all that happened so far. >> I felt like I had to get out of my house. So, I took the car keys and went to the car and my mom tried to stop me and I fought back against her cuz I thought that she was like not herself. >> I really felt like she was trying to keep me from faking myself. Like I thought was sick, man. I thought I had to get out of the house and she was dropping that felt dangerous. >> So, sounds like Fury was acting in suspects. Sounded like Bob wasn't behaving like a real person who was dangerous. I don't want to hurt my mom. >> In the end, Sierra Skuniver pleaded guilty, but not guilty by reason of insanity, to first-degree intentional [music] homicide, use of a dangerous weapon, and domestic abuse. The judge sentenced her to spend the rest of her life in inatient [music] institutional care. Moving on to a case where deputies arrived at an auto parts store expecting a disturbance, but the scene waiting for them was far more horrific. >> So, we have one looks like he's beyond help. >> He's moving. Is he still conscious? >> Yeah. >> Stop right there. Stop right there. One male, red and blue plat. I already told him, too, like if you put your hands on me, bro, I I will shoot you. >> On September 14th, 2025, dispatchers in Albuquerque were flooded with calls about gunfire outside an O'Reilly Auto Parts store. Witnesses reported a fight, then a body on the ground. As deputies raced to the scene, another call came in. This time from the shooter himself, claiming he was the victim. What officers found when they arrived would leave them questioning everything. >> It's a county 911. What is the address for an emergency? >> Uh, I'm over here on Kors. But the O'Reilly Kors and Blake, >> do you know the address there? >> No, I don't. But they're firing. They're shooting guns next at people across the street at O'Reilly. >> Okay. Who's doing this? >> I have no idea who they are. I'm not description of who we're looking for. >> Uh there's a white a white GNC truck, man and blue jeans and a black t-shirt, black hat. >> Uh we were driving by and there was a fight and then we heard three or four guns and a guy fell. He said it looked like a worker in a bright green shirt and then a guy in a black shirt with black hair had a gun. >> Okay, so at this time we've got help on the way. We've got the sheriff's department and the paramedics. >> Oh no, it's one of the workers. >> Okay, ma'am. At this time, do not get any closer. Do not touch anything. >> There's a guy the guy at the auto attack that attacked me, bro. I had a I had a I had a bro. I didn't know what to do. Sir, there was two of them attacking me, just beating me up, bro. >> So, >> I didn't know what to do, dude. >> Medic as soon as possible. >> Do you know the address? >> I don't. >> Uh, I'm really scared for my life, sir. I'm I'm scared for my life, sir. >> Okay. Are Where are you at? Are you in your vehicle? Are they still following you? >> No. Uh, I'm I'm at the store, but I'm scared they're going to get a gun, so >> What kind of vehicle are they in? >> I'm on the phone with the cops, buddy. Don't worry. I'm waiting for them. >> I'm scared for my life, bro. >> Deputies pulled into the parking lot to find chaos. One victim lay motionless on the pavement. Another was fading fast inside the store. Customers who were there at the time of incident were trying to help the victim. >> There's another one. >> Yeah, that guy. He just took off. >> Okay. Okay. Okay. He took off around and tried to get the plate. Why? >> He was a bro. I don't Lincoln. So, we have one. Looks like he's beyond help. And there's one also inside. Okay, hold on. Hold on. >> Right there. >> Where's he at? [laughter] >> Okay, let me go get >> Hey, don't record it, man. >> That's not Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Sorry. Oh, you're good. >> I just The guy was right there. I was trying to get in my car. >> Next year. Come with your trauma kit real quick for the the mail inside. >> He just pulled him out. He had minutes to pull him out. Okay. >> GMC he was working. >> Trauma kit. He's coming with a trauma kit on his back. >> Um, no. Let me see when he comes in. >> Excuse me. >> Red flannel over. >> Okay. Are you breathing, brother? Can you hear me? You can hear me? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Oh my god. Bro, >> give us a Can you guys hang out all over there? We'll talk to you in a minute, bro. >> They're fighting over a filter and yet something that the filter wasn't the right one. And they were saying that >> they were fighting each other. >> No, they were right here like they were talking, fighting. And then they're like, "Well, if you don't want to buy it, then don't buy it." And then the guy grabbed the gallons of oil. He walked out and then they started cursing each other out. And they went outside and they started fighting. the other worker, the one that's on the floor, he's the one that pushed the the the customer first, and then he started fighting and then I just heard out through the back. >> So, the younger and the older male were both customers. >> Yeah. >> And they were arguing with the worker. >> Was it this guy or with him? They two go outside. He follows >> Mhm. And then the other worker that's on the floor, he's followed them, too. [laughter] I don't know. And >> hey, can you try to keep talking? >> One employee, Richard Newman, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other, Jesus Valdez, was rushed to the hospital with a bullet near his lung, still conscious, but fading in and out. With the victims accounted for, deputies turned their attention to finding the man responsible. >> Inside, >> yeah, inside still talk, breathing. >> So, it's on his back near his lung. I did a chest up just in case. It's not actively bleeding, but he's going in and out. He is talking that you hear anything. We're going to grab him and go. >> He's moving. Is he still conscious? >> Do either of you guys know his information? Name >> Chris. My name is Jacob. We're going to be getting you going here shortly, man. We're just waiting for the bed. >> That one time. >> All right, man. >> Hold on. Hold on. You got enough? >> Yeah, I got it. >> We're just going to take off here. He looked like he spit up the hill. They're checking out >> right now. And >> did you see it happen? >> I didn't see I was putting my heard the I seen everybody reporting and I ran. >> You guys get a suspect vehicle. >> Yeah, we're we're going to get that now. >> Zoom in for the GMC. One of them got in this vehicle. >> Yeah, he's after he pulled him out of the truck. He's almost out. picked up. >> Did you get a good look at the driver >> or only the passenger was that >> the driver? You can catch a little glimpse of him in the video, but I wouldn't say enough. >> Hispanic 58. That's about it. 200 lb maybe. >> The other guy had a beard. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Heavier set. >> We really didn't see nothing. We were there getting killed and we seen them fighting. We turned around and that's when we heard the pop. >> A deputy searching the area spotted a man matching the description witnesses had given. Hispanic wearing a plaid shirt walking along the road with a woman. He was detained immediately but was released soon. >> Well, there'll be a fun subject. Back to that description. Sir, get your hands up. Stop right there. Stop right there. One male, red and blue plaid. We're going to be just south of Barcel or just north of Barcelona. Keep your hands up. Don't move. Turn around. >> Turn around. >> Why are you arresting him? Arrest >> being arrested. He has no warrants. >> He's being detained, man. >> Under arrest. >> He's not under arrest. >> Okay. >> Don't interfere, please. >> Okay. They don't live in here. >> They don't live in here. Okay. ID. >> No. No, >> no. Okay. Okay. ID. I mean, coming through here and they're like pulled out. >> After releasing the wrong man, deputies dug through store records and found a receipt that gave them a name and an address. They headed to the residence. And as they were pulling up, a man matching the suspect's description drove up to the same house right into their hands. >> Go back. >> This is your house. >> Okay. >> Put the car in park. >> 140's got contact. Put the car in park. Park the car. Step out for me. 140's got one detained in his unit. SMA approximately 50. He's wearing a plaid shirt. Pulled right up on me. >> Good. >> Yeah, I'm good. Is this him? >> Okay. He Yeah, he pulled right up to me. Said he lived here. I saw his plaid shirt. Detained him. >> Jesus Christ. >> Put him in the back seat. >> Yeah. Come with me. weapons. Guns, knives, black F-150. >> Do you speak English? Ramon's the sheriff's office. >> However, as they were on the way to the station with the first suspect, something unexpected caught the officer's attention. A vehicle that made them stop right there on the road. Inside was the second suspect, a man named Ismile, and the version of events he started telling nothing like what witnesses had described. >> Walk back to the sound of my voice now. Keep walking. Keep walking. Keep walking. Just keep walking, man. >> Okay, keep walking back. Stop. Take a couple steps to your right. >> 357. So, show me on the 278. >> I'm just You understand? >> Yes, ma'am. >> You're good. So, stay stay on. I got it. I won't so you don't have to grab me that hard. Go ahead and stand up. >> Walk back. >> Is anybody outside? >> No. >> I'll fix them here. >> Okay. You can't put them straight right away. >> I can't put them straight right now. Give me a second though. Okay. I'll fix them. Don't worry. So, what happened today? >> I just went into the O'Rey's, bro, because they gave my dad the wrong filter. >> Okay. and all the oil went everywhere and we tried to get a refund for the oil and the filter and they didn't want to give us the refund for the oil filter for the oil I mean. So I told him I'll just walk out with it and when I'm walking out with it they both came out with the oil. I mean they both came out they both came out and one of them started pushing me. Both of the workers >> both workers. >> Yes, sir. Both of the workers came out and they started pushing me and one of the and uh the other worker when he pushed me he kind of like me so hard in my chest that I kind of like lost my breath. kind of like sped up a little bit >> and >> I just tried pushing him away. He just came like running at me, punching me and me and he tried doing uh my dad tried to break him up and they both just came like they both were just constantly not like me not stopped, man. Both the workers there. >> Okay, that's it though that happened. >> Yeah, that that's that's all that happened, man. >> I know I I just didn't feel safe with them coming at me, bro. I tried to go to my truck and he came after me again. And like I said, I just had to get my gun to get him away from me, bro. And and you know, I'm not trying to kill him, but I was trying to get him away from me, man. I already told him too, like, if you put your hands on me, bro, I I will you. And they didn't listen, dude. Before anything, they they didn't listen. They They still >> Who's the passenger with you? [music] >> I don't have a passenger. >> You don't have a passenger? >> No, I I never had a passenger. >> You never had Oh, yeah. Yeah, my dad. So when my when me and my dad were there, he was my passenger at the moment. >> Yeah. So where's your dad at? >> My dad's at home. I took him home because at the moment he didn't know what to do when the guys were >> Where do you live at? >> I don't I don't live there. >> Well, where does your dad live then? >> I don't know where he's at. It's on Blake and Joe Street. >> I I I left and I picked my dad up down the street because he didn't he was scared. He didn't know what to do. So he ran away. >> Okay. >> He ran away from the He ran away from the situation. The two guys. >> What's your dad's name? >> Jesus Tenno. >> Do you know his birthday or no? >> I don't, man. >> Okay. You don't have your dad's birthday. That's wild. >> I'm not close to my dad. >> I'm sorry to hear that. Okay, >> you're good. Have a seat for me. Okay, let me turn the AC on. >> Richard Newman never made it off that parking lot. Jesus Valdez fought for his life at the hospital but didn't [music] survive. Ismael was charged with unlawful killing while his father, who had fled on foot after the shooting, was questioned and released without charges. Next up, officers arrived at a secluded home to check on a man no one had heard from in months, only to uncover something far darker than a simple disappearance. >> Chance, have you seen your neighbors over at 97, Heather? >> No, sir. I had I've been really worried about him. >> Seeing anything different? >> No, it looks exactly the same. Doesn't look like anyone's been here. >> She specifically told you that she shot him. >> Yeah, that's what SHE SAID. >> SHERIFF NATIONAL SEARCH. >> ON May 12th, 2025, deputies in Cloudcraftoft, New Mexico, were asked to check on 60-year-old Craig Thatford after his family and business partner hadn't heard from him in nearly 4 months. But what detectives were about to hear from the people closest to Craig would slowly paint a picture that no one wanted to believe. Communications on a recorded line. How can I help you? >> Who would I talk to to have a wellness check done on an individual? >> That would be me. What's going on? >> His name is Craig Setford. Everybody here in Texas has been trying to get a hold of Craig for nearly 2 months. We can't get a hold of his wife. We're really concerned about him because this is not like him. He always answers his phone or calls back. Nobody can get a hold of him. >> Sheriff's office. Sheriff's office. Doesn't look like there's anyone in there. Um, no lights on, nothing like that. Deputy Vince with the sheriff's office. By chance, have you seen your your neighbors over at 97, Heather? >> No, sir. I had. I I've been really worried about him. >> Okay. >> Since January. since January. >> Yeah. >> So, is it like do they h do they live here like part-time or is it like uh full-time kind of thing? Do do you know? >> Well, he moved up here full they moved up here full time. >> Okay. >> Oh, this was back about 2 years ago and we were real good friends and everything. >> Okay. >> And we were both on the James County Fire Department. >> Mhm. >> And then come January it was just no contact. >> We were looking for Craig Setford. Yeah, we haven't heard from Craig. >> Okay. How long has it been since you have spoken to him or seen him? >> It has been since January. >> Since about January. >> Yeah. >> And his wife, Dena, is my friend. Um, she's in and out from the house down there. >> Okay. >> She hasn't really talked to him either, which is weird. >> And when was the last time you saw Dena here in the in the area? >> Um, it's probably been about 3 weeks now. >> About 3 weeks? >> Yeah. >> Gotcha. Craig's grandson called the sheriff's office with the same fear. Craig's grandson didn't believe his grandfather would vanish without a word, and he pointed to the one person who claimed to still be in contact with him, his wife, Dena. When detectives finally reached her, her answers only raised more questions than they settled. >> Communications on a recorded line. How can I help you? >> Okay, this is going to seem really, really strange. About 4 months ago, my grandpa had went off the like face of the of the world, and he's a volunteer firefighter up there. He loved to do it. He talked to him about it all the time. And so I'd like to place a wellness check. But the only person that said she's talked to him in 4 months is his wife. And apparently now they're getting a divorce. He's doing a whole bunch of stuff, but I don't I don't believe it. It's not my [clears throat] grandpa. It's just really strange. >> What's his name? >> Greg Betford. >> Calling from the Otto County Sheriff's Office. Is this >> Yes, sir. It sure is. >> Yes, sir. So, I was calling in regards to I believe your your grandfather. >> Grandpa? Yes, sir. Efforts. Can you tell me what's going on? >> Okay, so I mean this he he went like completely ghost from the family for I mean this started January. I mean he last talked to my grandma when she was in the hospital and so I mean I I wasn't really worried about it cuz I mean if he went like a month or two months without texting us or contacting anybody then I mean it just that's that. But whenever Mother's Day came along, that's when we really started getting worried cuz he didn't call his mother. >> And so it's like, like I said, it's been about 4 months since like he hasn't texted nobody, but he just randomly went missing. And his wife is the only one that has had contact with him. >> Have you guys had any contact with his wife? Yes, she came over to my grandma's today saying he's apparently gone awall and is going talking to other girls and that he's working at another. But I don't I don't believe that he wouldn't ghost his family. >> I was calling in in reference to your husband Craig. >> Yes. >> So, we we got some calls. There were some concerns. Um it seems that uh he hasn't been in contact with a lot of his family and some of his friends, >> right? Yeah, we we're we we have been separated and I recently filed for divorce. Um he's kind of [snorts] went uh he's involved with someone else and so uh currently he's in Mexico. >> In Mexico. Okay. >> Yeah. El Salto. Um, would you happen to have an address for him or anything like that? >> Well, I don't. All I know is by credit card charges and um I don't I'm I came to Texas for Mother's Day and I haven't gotten back there yet. >> That's all right. When was the last time you saw him in person? >> Before he left. >> Okay. Would you have an estimate like, you know, was it like 1 week, 2 weeks? >> I wish I had a calendar. Um this is the 12th. Um the first of the first of the month. >> First of the month. >> And that that is definitely an estimate. >> Okay. And you saw him in person, correct? >> Yes. Yes. He was packing. Yes. >> Where was this at? Was this at your residence on Heatherwood? >> Yes. >> Yes, he Yes. He he uh has moved out essentially. >> The phone call with Dena dropped and she stopped answering. So detectives went to the Dena's house. Hi. Good morning, Dana. >> Yes. >> Hi. Good morning. Good morning. [clears throat] >> How can I help you? >> Hey, I'm doing some I'm Roger. I'm sorry. Roger. >> I think we met at a base uh football game. >> Probably did. I'm trying to do some followup on uh Craig and I thought maybe I can meet with you and maybe you could try to kind of help me and give me some information. >> Sure. >> Can we sit somewhere? >> Come over here. >> All right. Okay. Well, obviously we got some calls because people haven't been hearing from her or anything. So, you being the wife, you might be able to help me. >> Well, it's his mom. I talked to his mom. >> His mom. >> I had [clears throat] gone to visit her Monday, I guess. >> This last Monday? >> Yes. Okay. And then I guess she called y'all to see if y'all could catch him up here. He only usually shows up when I leave. >> Oh, really? So, you guys aren't? >> No, we have been having some issues. Um, >> okay. >> I guess you would say we're separated. >> How long's that been going on? >> Um, well, nothing's legal yet. Um, we haven't been really spending much time together since probably February. >> February. Early February, late February. >> February or midFebruary. since midFebruary. Okay. And then so things weren't working out. So you left. He left. How did that >> he left? He he told me Well, he first went to Texas cuz he was said he needed to go help his mom. >> So he left here to go help his mom. >> That's That was what he said. Yes. >> When was that? That was um like probably maybe the second week or of February that he [clears throat] left the first time. >> So, and that was like the second week of February. >> You you'll have to bear with me because I don't keep track of time at all. But yeah, it was February and supposedly he he would stay there a week and then come back on the weekend. And you thinking this is maybe the Sakuro Fire Academy or the Albuquerque Park? >> Um well, all he ever really told me was um Albuquerque. >> Okay. >> But then, you know, and and it just and I just, you know, whatever. And uh sometime in February, you know, I kind of started getting feeling resentful and I asked him to start spending more time with me. >> Mhm. and doing things and he just he just put this above everything and my this is now this is my side and that's how I feel. >> Mhm. >> That was in February too. >> Um February maybe March 1st of March or Yeah. No, it it was the end of February cuz it was my mom's birthday. Okay. >> My mom's birthday is the 27th. As the questioning began, Dena explained how Craig had been coming and going for months, leaving notes on a whiteboard instead of speaking to her directly. A detail that struck the detective as deeply strange. >> Was he calling you or y'all were texting each other? >> He stopped talking to me at at the fight when we had the fight. He stopped talking to me. >> So that was all back in late February, right? Mid late February in that time frame. So >> February, >> early March. >> Yeah. you know, did start staying away. >> Um, [clears throat] and uh, but when I would come home, I mean, he's been here. Um, uh, it got to the point where he would just leave me a note like that one over there. >> Can you grab it for me? >> Yeah. Excuse me. >> Waiting to get cataract surgery done on my eyes. They're not working too great. Don't >> I've gotten to where I have to wear my glasses all the time now. This [clears throat] there's been several. This is this is our communication right here for the last two months. >> Okay. >> And there's been several, but this is the now this one is from not like two weeks ago. >> Dena claimed everything was fine, but she was too calm for someone whose husband had vanished. Then without realizing it, Dena made a mistake that the detective caught immediately and the timeline she had built began to crack. >> All this time's gone by. I mean, he he he just he quit coming home. >> Mhm. >> Um he'll he would come in like at in the Well, I say the middle of the night. Um I I go to bed early, but he'd come in, he'd do laundry, and he'd be gone again. Um he's he's packed up. All his clothes I got back yesterday. >> Mhm. Now all his clothes are gone. His home computer's gone. >> So how are the bills getting paid if he's not here? >> U he they're all set up on credit cards. So he he >> Do you have access to his credit card accounts and all that? >> I had to uh I have I have two that he gave me and then um he showed me how to uh go up to the computer and make the payment cuz he does that manually each time. >> Mhm. But I mean, nothing's cut off. I have an important fact, but I I'm [snorts] hesitant to [clears throat] >> Can I say something off the record? >> Sure. >> Um Craig keeps all our money in cash. >> Okay. >> So, and it's I can't get in the safe, so I can't tell you if he took it or if it's there. >> All the money. >> Mhm. you. Why can't you get into the safe? >> I don't have the combinations. >> Could you show me where that safe is? >> Okay. >> This one and this one. >> Oh, there's two of them. >> Yeah. >> Well, obviously he was a firearm guy like me. Yes. But I don't have safes like this. [music] >> So, what what's that white stuff? >> Uh, it's I think it's from when he moved it. I think it's >> Oh, it just got scratched. Okay. >> So, you don't have the combination for either. Say >> no. >> No. I just [sighs] >> You didn't keep it written down anywhere and you don't know. >> Okay. Let me ask you again. I for I'm sorry I didn't write down. When did he leave that whiteboard message for you? >> Um it was on Well, I went to the I went to town on the 28th >> of this month >> of April. >> April first. Dena said Craig left that whiteboard message in March. Then she changed it to April. The timeline kept slipping. Meanwhile, detectives learned Dena had recently bought a brand new Mustang and a house in Texas. When they called the real estate agent to confirm, what they heard made those purchases look even more suspicious. >> I was wondering if maybe you could help me out with answering some questions on a property that you had sold in February, if you have a second. >> Yes. Um, which which house is it? >> Um, 500 North River Street in Seam. >> Yes. Yes. [snorts] >> You had sold it to um a single buyer. >> Yes. >> Can you verify the name for me? Dina. >> Yes. Okay. She didn't have another person in the transaction with her? >> No, ma'am. >> Okay. Do you remember when it was that she was inquiring to purchase the property? [laughter] >> Um, I know she closed the first week of February. I want to say she closed like the 4th. [laughter] And I think it all happened within like a week. >> [clears throat] >> Was there any talk about why it was so quick? >> Um, she was moving down here to be closer to her mom. That's all I knew. >> Was there a mortgage or was that a cash sale? >> Um, it was it was all I think it was just cash sale. I don't She didn't have a loan. >> All right. Um, is there anything else? Did she mention um husband or him moving with her or >> No, I thought that they had got divorced kind of just what I heard, but I don't know for sure. >> Uh but she just said that they weren't together anymore. I I just kind of figured that they split up. It happens that I didn't pry. >> Sure. >> As the investigation continued, Craig's neighbor said Craig once told him Dena had the safe combinations, the same safes she now claimed she couldn't open. 4 days later, detectives returned to the property and noticed something in the backyard that hadn't been there before. >> We was on our way back home and Craig said, "If anything ever happens to me, I don't want one of these calls. Dana has uh uh has a combination to the safe and I keep a I keep a an envelope full of money in it and that way she can take care of anything." >> She told me during that videotape interview that uh she didn't she's never had the combination to the safe. So, it's a it's a contradiction of what um Greg Thatford told and obviously what Diana Thatford told me yesterday on the 15th of May 202. Good morning. >> Come on in. >> How are you? >> Good. How are you? >> Good. Good. >> I was about to make some coffee. >> I'll take some coffee. What are you putting in the ground? >> I'm not putting in the ground. I was trying to flatten it. I'm going to roll those rocks back in there. >> Oh, I saw that metal thing. I thought maybe it was some kind of a holding thing. It's an above ground gardening. >> Oh, yeah. Yeah. Is there anywhere else you think he could have gone? I mean, I don't see where he's traveling out of the United States yet. I haven't seen anything. >> You haven't? >> No. >> Um, >> I was hoping the financial records would help us track him and see what what's going on in his head. That's I guess the reason why I keep bugging you about the credit card stuff is how is he financing anything unless he just took all the money, you know? I wish I knew how we could get into those two saves, but without destroying them. I don't know anything about those big saves, but I know it's an act of God to get one of those things cut open. >> I I I couldn't even begin to guess what a password would be or >> That's all right. >> Um I mean, can they be gotten into? I guess you can saw them. >> Yeah, I guess. >> Detectives tracked down Dena's ex-husband, and what he told them painted a terrifying picture. He described her as violent and said she had tried to end his life twice. The ex-husband revealed that years ago, Dena had looked him dead in the eye and said, "If I could kill Craig and get away with it, I'd do it." But detectives still needed hard proof. Then on June 17th, 2025, it came from the last source anyone expected. >> Hi, how are you this morning? >> Oh, you know. All right, I guess. >> Hanging in there. >> Yeah. >> Well, good. I got a couple questions for you this morning. And I have uh EJ in the office with me also that may have a couple questions for you also. Okay. >> Okay. >> Okay. [snorts] Did you ever uh remember the day that your mother come to see you? >> She called me and she was like, "I'm in town. I got this hotel. Do you want to come over and I'll I'll take you out to dinner?" So, we went to Joe's Crab Shack and then she told me at Joe's Crab Shack. >> She told you the Crab Shack what she what had happened? >> Yeah. Well, like briefly. And then she came over in my apartment later, like the next day or something, and like I asked her questions and then that's when she told me more. [clears throat] But she said that they were fighting and that Craig pushed her down the stairs and laughed about it or laughed at her or something. And then she just flew into a rage and was blinded by rage and just him like pow pow pow. She specifically told you that she him. >> Yeah, that's what she said. >> And she described it how? >> Like pow pow pow. That's what she literally said. And then I was trying to ask her like, "So you went to go grab the gun?" Like I I was going to ask her where the gun was, but then she started like her story wasn't really like all together. So then I was like, "Okay." Okay. So then I moved on to, well, were you looking at him? Like did you see him when when like were you facing him? Like did you see his eyes or whatever? And she she nodded her head yes like that she was facing him or looking at him or something like that or saw him. So then I was like, "Okay." And then I asked her [music] like why she the gun so many times cuz I was like, "Well, did he not go down after the first one or whatever?" And she was like, "I don't know. I just like really fast." And I was like, "Okay." And then she said he fell down into the pole room. >> Okay. >> Dena's daughter said her mother had confessed everything over dinner. She described in chilling detail what Dena had done. And suddenly the hole in the backyard and the new purchases all made terrible sense. >> So from the pool room, how would someone get his body outside? >> I think I asked her that and she said that she couldn't move him cuz he's so heavy. So she let left left him there. like he laid there for like a day and a half or two days and a half and then she wrapped him up in a rug. She said there was a rug there, which I don't remember there being a rug there, but maybe there was. I don't know. Um, she wrapped him in a rug. She wrapped him in like some plastic. She said she would do a little bit and then she would have to stop and like go back in the house and then she would do a little bit and then have to go back in the house. And she was like explaining that to me. And then she said that she tied something around the rug [snorts] and dragged it out with a tractor. Um, dragged him out and then she told me that his body's in the carport. Oh, she told me that I asked her how long that this happened. Like how long ago like how long has he been there basically? And she said that this happened in like January or February or something. So, it's been like a while. >> Did she say she dug a hole and put him in there? >> She did not say. And I didn't even think to [clears throat] to ask any more questions cuz I'm kind of like still can't believe like this has happened. >> Oh, I I get it. Yes, >> I understand. Okay. Did Did he keep money in the house, >> Craig? Yes. >> Yeah. Um I think the majority of his money was cash. So my mom said that he had like duffel bags full of cash at the house somewhere. >> Okay. And did did she tell you? >> She took it. >> With a search warrant in hand, officers returned to Craig's house on July 8th, 2025. [music] In the carport, beneath piles of cardboard, blankets, and mothballs, they made a discovery that confirmed every suspicion they had been building for months. Good job. >> Police department. >> SHERIFF SEARCH WARRANT. IS >> SHE inside the house? >> No. >> What? >> She's not here. She's in Witchaw Falls. >> What's she doing in Witchto Falls? Dena was arrested in Texas and charged with firstdegree unlawful killing and tampering with evidence. [music] She later appeared in court and entered guilty p and was immediately sentenced to 18 years in the New Mexico Department of Correction.
