It's just before 11:00 a.m. at a collectible store in Lake Park, Florida when deputies respond to a reported Pokémon heist where one suspect's quest to catch them all is about to land him in serious trouble. >> All right, thanks so much. Bye-bye. >> It's not him, bro. It's not him. It's not How you doing? All right? >> I'm well. >> Damn it, you have to tell me this. 3:50 o'clock. >> Okay. >> He had like a chainsaw or jigsaw. Started going through it cuz it's impact glass. >> Yeah. >> Started working his way in there. And then went back. Look like he went around there. I don't have cameras on that side, so that's a blind spot. >> Okay. >> Came back with like a like a hammer, did the rest. Small hole. Got himself in like Spider-Man. >> Okay. >> sort of barrel roll and just starts doing doing some damage. Thank God we >> The business owner tells deputies that surveillance footage showed a man attempting to throw a rock at the store's window around [music] 1:30 a.m. before he says the same man returned a few hours later with a handheld electric saw and cut a hole through the impact-resisting glass before using a hammer or mallet to widen the opening and climb through. >> I was trying to like I mean, I don't think it's crazy. It's probably 10 to 15 grand worth of stuff. >> Really? Okay. >> You know, but and thank God like hey, we're going to >> Where did he exit? >> Same thing. Same window. >> Okay. >> Yeah. I mean, he tried to do his job, you know, tried to cover it up, but it's real small. Uh, there is some blood on the glass, which is a good >> Investigators later determined the suspect made off with around 12 grand worth of Pokémon cards and various merchandise from the store >> [music] >> and caused an estimated $1,500 in damage along the way all before leaving behind important DNA evidence after injuring himself in the process. Next, deputies get a good look at the suspect's alleged entry [music] point. >> Okay. So, he got through that little hole. >> I'm surprised he didn't take himself even more. >> Yeah. That's how I knew >> Here, we see the small triangular hole the suspect allegedly used to gain entry into the business. Now, the victim continues sharing more details. >> wasn't just a hammer. And then when I went back, I saw him literally with a jigsaw. >> Do you know what he was going for? Or was he you think he was just looking at the stickers? >> I know, he definitely didn't look at any stickers. He didn't have time. Came back here, uh grabbed a couple of things like he did look to see what he wanted. So, he knows Pokémon. And then he just came here and took these trays that were full with cards like that and just dumped them into like kind of like one of those Aldi type bags. >> He came back a second time, which you got to have that video, too. >> He made it a little bit bigger, I guess, with the mallet. And when he went in this way, I mean, I don't even know how >> Yeah, he had more. >> I was looking at the size of it. I'm like, there's no way he's like my size. Because >> Moments later, the store owner determines a possible [music] suspect saying a man had driven to the store 2 days prior in what appeared to be the same white Jeep the suspect had been driving [music] wearing the exact same black clothing. Furthermore, he told detectives the suspect had made a purchase of more than $400 linked to his customer [music] profile that included his name, phone number, and email address. >> He was there for about 30, 40 minutes asking a lot of questions, just looking at the Pokémon. So again, I'm just going to come up with as much evidence as possible to help you guys. You know what I mean? >> That guy? >> That guy was here for like 40 minutes yesterday just asking about the prices for everything. >> anything or just >> He did buy something. So that's what they said. Um >> Cash or credit? >> I don't know, but they can We can pull it up. Yeah, we can pull it up for sure. >> Armed with plenty of information, it doesn't take investigators long to trace their suspect's location to his parents' home about 17 miles away in West Palm Beach. >> How are you? >> Hi. >> We We're just making sure your dogs are not aggressive before we came and knocked on the door. >> One of them is. >> Oh, they are. Okay. >> Yeah. Well, the the big one. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Um >> But they're in the house. >> They are. Okay. >> Do you need to come in? >> Yeah, if we could. >> Sure. >> Can they come out the dog door? >> No. No. No. Yeah. You want to come on in? >> So I'm Detective Remore with Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. >> Yeah. >> And this is my partner, Detective Mace. >> Hello. >> Hi. >> You're >> Yes. >> You're Mr. >> Clayton. >> Clayton. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Let me see your Can you empty your pockets? >> And >> Is that a knife in his front right? Or a gun? >> Is it a gun or a knife? >> It's a knife. >> Okay. Okay. >> Okay. >> Come. You're being detained right now. >> Deputies identify the suspect seen here as 33-year-old Clayton Warren, who allegedly decided to level up his Pokémon collection the illegal way. >> Okay. Just relax. We have a search warrant for your house. >> Okay. We're going to explain everything after >> Yeah, we'll explain everything to you. >> and to get things situated, okay? >> Okay. >> Oh, nice knife. >> Is there anyone else home with you? >> Yeah, my husband. >> Your husband's inside? have two dogs. >> Anything else in your pocket? >> Are they friendly? >> No. >> My faith. Okay, I'm just going to take everything out just so that uh How much cash do you have on you? Okay. Do you have any cash? >> No, no cash. >> Okay, step over here. Okay. Just hang with him for a second. Okay. >> Yeah, what's what's going on with that? What's going on? >> I I have no idea. >> You feel okay? >> Yeah. >> Okay. You're just you're just kind of sweaty. I just want to make sure that you're not going to like pass out or something. You've been arrested before? >> Never. >> While Clayton is detained, another investigator speaks with his mother. >> Um like I said, I'm Detective Raymond with the Sheriff's Office. Okay? I'm investigating a burglary to a business. >> Okay. >> Um in which Clayton broke into a business this morning at 3:00 a.m. Okay. >> That that's my son. >> Um he used a chainsaw to cut through a hurricane-proof window using the Jeep that you own >> Oh. >> to get there and from. And he stole a bunch of Pokémon cards. >> Oh, [ __ ] >> So. >> Oh my god. >> Um we do have a search warrant for the house. He cut himself up badly going through the window. So, we have a search warrant for his DNA as well. >> Okay. >> But >> Back with the suspect, the deputy's approach turns out to be super effective as Clayton makes a stunning admission. >> Okay. Um If I >> Tell us. >> [snorts] >> Yeah, if I if I return everything and Um >> I don't know. >> Okay. >> I don't know. That's a question for the bald man. >> The bald man? >> Yeah. >> Can I >> He's in trouble. That's why I let him talk to Mom and then uh >> Can I talk to him? >> Yeah, give him a second. Let me Let him talk to Mom and explain what's going on. She's She's a little nervous, so. >> Yeah. I'm so stupid. >> Yeah, it was pretty dumb. So, you've never been in trouble for? >> Never. >> Okay. Uh I'm sure you've seen like a TV show or something so before we say anything, let's read you your rights. >> While Clayton is read his Miranda rights, one detective speaks with his parents further. >> He apparently at 3:00 this morning went and robbed and stole Pokémon cards. Oh my god. >> So, at 3:00 in the morning or I I mean at actually 1:30 he was there with a rock trying to throw it through the window. Didn't get through the store because it's a hurricane-proof window and then came back out here and grabbed a uh battery-operated saw and used that to cut through the window, climbed through the window, cut himself badly, um and stole a bunch of Pokémon cards in two paper bags. They were thrown into two paper bags. So. Um So, what we'll do, just to make everything easy, um if you guys want to go >> what? >> What's that? >> I went in his closet today and I saw the step ladder in his closet and I'll show you that. >> Yeah. >> And I noticed I'm like, where's that suitcase? So, then I had asked Clayton uh cuz I got up like at 4:30 in the morning. I couldn't sleep and Clayton came out and I was like, well uh you can't sleep and he goes, "No, I can't sleep." But he I asked him about the suitcase and he said, "Oh, yeah, I was trying to see if I was thinking about going up to wedding and I got it out here." And he had the suitcase here. And >> Did something with it? Sorry, what's your name again? >> Clayton. >> Clayton. You feel okay? >> Yeah, I'm okay. >> Okay. >> Never been in trouble. >> Okay. I understand. Let me know if you want to like sit down or something. >> Do what? >> I said, let me know if you want to like sit down or something. You can lean against the hood of the car. >> Um, yeah. >> I don't want you don't want you falling out on us. Yeah, just right here, this one. There. Let them Let them chitchat. >> Mom, let me explain it, please. >> Now, the detective turns his attention to Clayton. Mr. Clayton, how are you? >> I'm okay. >> So >> It's very stupid. >> Yeah. It was. >> I would like a lawyer, but I I would like to to explain and talk. >> Okay. Uh, it's >> Unless I mean >> It's up to you. We have a search warrant for the house. We have a search warrant to to literally go through every fine-tooth comb looking for the property from this morning. >> Right. >> Um, the saw that was used to cut open the door. >> Um >> Um and then uh, couple of items of your clothing and then to uh, take your DNA. Cuz you cut yourself on the door and we have blood left on scene. >> Okay. >> So we're uh Like I said, that's what we're trying to get is majority of the property back. >> Okay. Um, I can I can give you all the property back. >> Okay. >> And um I can tell you where the chainsaw is. I can give you my clothes, everything. I just want to you know, I don't know if I need a lawyer or if >> It's It's entirely your right. >> a deal. >> Unfortunately, we don't make deals. We can't make a deal right here right now. Um we have what we have. >> Mhm. >> And there's like I said, an abundance of evidence in regards to what we have and why we're here right now. >> Right. >> Um it is entirely your right to an attorney as he read you your rights. Um so that is entirely your choice. Whether you want to tell us more or not, it's up to you. Like I said, we're we got a search warrant and we're going to go looking for everything regardless. >> Right. >> So. Um >> I mean, do you do you think it would look better for me >> I can't give you that advice, boss. I'm sorry. I wish I could, but >> Only you know >> Yeah. >> what happened, where the stuff is. Um and the route that you should take through this. We can't give you any type of advice. Definitely no legal advice. Um So you don't want a lawyer right now? >> Do what? >> You do not want a lawyer right now? I mean, we can't get one here right now, but if if if uh if you want a lawyer, it would be later on like at you know, at the jail. We're not going to bring one out here to the scene for this situation at your house looking for everything. So I just want to be clear that as of right now you're okay talking to us and and telling us where the things are. I can't I can't answer that for you. You can talk to your mom if you want, if you trust >> Yeah. >> You can discuss discuss with them um what's going on. So, I'll just tell you from our side, we have a search warrant um for the house to look for the items and the things that the detective Remus just explained to you. Um and then we also have another search warrant for your DNA, which is just like a a cotton swab inside your mouth real fast. >> Right. >> Um that one obviously we know where to find that, but all that other stuff we have no idea where to look. So, we'll look anywhere on this property to try to find every single piece that we're looking for. Um >> After the 33-year-old's apparent indecisiveness, the deputies allowed Clayton to talk with his parents, who don't appear to be very happy with him. >> I'll speak with them as long as I >> We have to stay with you. Um Well, hold on. Let me Let me see what uh Um he wanted to discuss his uh lawyer status and uh I'm telling us where the things are to expedite the search warrant, but then he asked to talk to mom and dad whether or not that's the best course for him. And I said we have to stand here, but now he wants the privacy of that, so what is What are your thoughts on >> As long as you guys don't [music] have contact with him like physical contact with him, you can stand right where you're at and talk to him. >> Give them a little space? >> Yeah, I'm good with that. We'll step up to the garage. >> Deputies step away for a moment before Clayton chooses to come clean and reveal the whereabouts of the stolen merchandise. >> Yes, sir. >> He's the man in charge. I'll show you where everything is. >> Okay. Come on. >> Hopefully you take that into account, but >> Yeah. So Boss, if you want to give Mom and Dad the search warrant, there there's the two of them. >> [snorts] >> I'll go with you. >> Clayton leads the detective inside where officials redact the screen. But according to an incident report, 210 individual Pokémon cards, seven sealed box packages of Pokémon cards, and blood-stained clothing were recovered. Investigators also found an estimated 20 g of mushrooms, which were placed separately into evidence. Additionally, while in the home, Clayton allegedly revealed that he had dumped the saw used in the crime in a nearby trash can. >> Need someone to take him to he's going to show you he tossed the gar- the saw out in a garbage can around the block. >> Okay. >> So he knows which garbage can it was. >> We have a transport car right here. >> Okay. >> And uh >> If you guys want to go >> Yeah. Can you follow follow him, Marie? >> Yeah, that's fine. >> He'll give us directions. >> They're going to take you to to see where that is, okay? >> Okay. >> Thank you. >> I'm going to turn the AC on and you tell me where we're going, all right? >> Okay. >> So it's like it's a dumpster or is it like someone's house? >> It's someone's house. >> It's just a dump a garbage can that I saw out. >> Do you know the person or not? >> No. >> Okay. All right. We'll head on out. >> Seconds later, Clayton is transported to the area where he says he ditched the tool. >> It was one of these trash cans is where they were in? >> Uh yeah. >> come on out. Yeah. >> Just walk this way. Was it the one without a lid or you you don't remember? It was that one? >> Pretty sure it was this one. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> While the trio searches for the electric saw, investigators back at the home continue speaking with Clayton's parents. >> stuff. Yeah, crazy stuff. >> Can you guys shake him or knock some sense into him or >> This is going to knock some sense into him. Um He cooper- He showed us where everything is. He hid a lot of it in his fish room. All of the the Pokémon cards. Um and then he had a bag that was stuffed in his closet with all of the bloody clothes and the bags that he used to take everything today. So. >> Yeah, cuz he he was washing his hands and and he said, "I cut myself." And I didn't see his hands, but he was telling me that and and I'm like, "How'd you do that?" He said, "Oh, the fish aquarium, the glass on top of the fish aquarium broke. Um >> So, we'll be in and out of your hair real quick. >> Okay. >> Um I'm just waiting on my partner to going to go >> So, I don't want to miss work for this because I I think this is not my my problem. It is his problem. He's an adult and he needs to take responsibility, come clean. Why the hell would you do this? He needs to work at work on something. You know, cuz we're not going to tolerate this. You're not going to live here if this is if this is the future. It's you know, I just you you just have to do that. >> Right. Well, it's not something that requires you to manage on his behalf. >> Yeah. I'm sorry that it took this many people off Like I said, it's a precaution. This stuff. I don't know why he would do this. It's It's wrong. It's definitely wrong. It is a crime and he should should do whatever, you know, he has to do. I don't I don't want him hurt or anything. I just worry cuz jail is There's two things I fear and one is jail and the other is hell. And I was raised a good Catholic girl and your morals and your conscience and I think some people don't have a conscience. >> Deputy said due to the garbage collection happening earlier in the day, the saw could not be recovered. >> It's just the chainsaw that was it? >> Yeah, just the chainsaw. >> Okay. All right. We'll go back in and go back over. All right. >> Did one of you guys take my vape? >> Uh I think it was just still in the back of the car with like your knife and everything else. It should still be sitting there. >> Clayton was charged with burglary to an unoccupied structure and grand theft. Court records show the 33-year-old ultimately pleaded guilty to the charges, but a judge later withheld adjudication. The suspect was jailed for 2 days and given 2 years of probation. He was also ordered to pay restitution. As for those Pokémon cards, >> What's up, sir? >> Good. How are you? >> Tryna trade today? You tryna trade product? >> Yeah. >> We do all the time to trade. I got a lot of good stuff to trade. >> All right. >> How you want to do it? You want to like write this stuff down? >> I will. I'm just going to write what we have it on here. >> So, we got chaos fighters in there. >> 73? >> Yeah, it's more like I think they're like 250 now, so you could you could put 250. The freaking thing fluctuates like crazy. That was a pretty big one, though. Even that a pearl alligator, yeah. >> I know it's a Willy's coffer too. 170 >> How much is the charger? >> Thank you so much. >> Oh, this is all the stuff he stole? >> Yeah. >> All safely evolved from stolen property back into store inventory. >> We're literally taking everything in the back now.
