Do you think children are always protected by their parents? The upcoming real stories from Florida will reveal challenges children face. >> So I have to right here. >> Is this appropriate behavior for a mother? >> You two children unattended in a car, >> right? You're in your driveway. You got some vomit around you and you're passing out behind the wheel. >> So you're being trespassed from the property. >> No. No, sir. >> Looks like she has a pretty diaper. I have three children. It's hard to deal with. From scenes of death to strict legal actions, every moment underscores one truth. The safety of children can never be compromised. The shocking series of events in Florida begins with an SUV parked off the road inside a mother unresponsive her children to manage on their own. >> He was hiding behind a chair in that room alone naked next to this knife. >> On the morning of November 10th, 2021, a quiet day in Florida was suddenly disrupted by an unusual call. A black Mercedes SUV was parked oddly, blocking the driveway. But what truly alarmed the police was the woman behind the wheel, clearly not fully conscious. >> Hi. >> Hello. >> What's going on? >> You okay? >> You don't seem okay. >> Well, I'm in my driveway. >> Right. You're in your driveway. You got some vomit around you and you're passed out behind the wheel. >> Let me gather myself. >> Okay, you go ahead and gather yourself. >> You want to come outside? Let's step out. Let's get you out of the car. Okay. >> Absolutely. Yeah. But >> do you live here? >> Of course I live here. I own I own this house. >> You know where you are? What house is it? What's the number? >> 57. >> Okay. Here. Come out here. >> Who call the police over now? >> Somebody was concerned. I mean, you're unconscious in your car. That's kind of concerning. Back up. Are you okay? >> I'm sorry. I'm >> What narcotics do you use? I'm waking up. >> What narcotics do you use? >> Don't use any narcotics. I'm waking up. I'm not sure exactly what's going on. >> What's going on? >> I don't know. >> You don't know? They said they found you slumped over in your car. >> I was tired. I was up all night delivering papers. >> The story grows even more tense as her children have to fend for themselves while the adults are absent. >> Apparently, there's a toddler in the house. I'm going to check. >> Oh, great. >> You don't want to go down to the hospital? >> No. Where's your kid at? >> Over working. >> Where's your child at? >> My kids are inside. >> Who's been watching them? >> Their sisters have >> So, is there an adult inside? >> There is a 14year-old, a 13year-old. >> I'm trying to knock on the door. No one's answering >> because y'all the cops. >> Can we go in? Do we have permission to go into your house? >> We do not. >> Okay. Well, let me explain to you what's going on. Okay. >> Please. Please do. >> You are obviously unconscious at your wheel. Sheriff's are they open now? Come sit over here. >> Come over here. >> I've been working my >> sit down on the bucket. Sit down on the bucket. >> Sit down. >> Police knocked on the door and were met with a surprising scene made even more concerning by the mother's calm, seemingly unaware reaction. >> You're slumped over the wheel. You have three kids in the house. The toddler's in a back bedroom by himself crying. And you're out here passed out. >> He's in the back bedroom. He was. Is this appropriate behavior for a mother? >> Absolutely not. And this has never happened. Not even once, sir. >> Okay. So, the people who have told us that this is a reoccurring thing, they're lying to us. >> No, I don't know who is telling you that. >> I'm not sure. But we're going to we're going to figure this out. >> Yeah. Because I am a good mother. >> Did you use any last night? >> No, I haven't. >> Cuz you are not acting normal right now. >> Okay. And I can explain it to you. Go ahead. Just listen to me. I understand because of my record. It doesn't look good. I didn't even look. Yeah. >> Just saying. Okay. Doesn't look good. I'm so stressed out. I don't know if I'm in a separation. I don't know which way my life is going. I am on the edge of a breakdown. >> Okay. So, I know you were a little confused when I asked you where your kid was a little bit ago. Do you want to know where he was exactly? >> I told you where he was. >> Where was he in the house? >> I wasn't in the house. >> Right. That's what I'm getting at. So, I'm just going to tell you where he was in the house. He was hiding behind a chair in that room alone naked next to this knife. Is that normal or does that concern you whatsoever? >> Absolutely not. Because I left him in the hands of my teenage girls. >> Okay. >> Which I thought was legal. I thought I was able to do >> Listen, if your girls are capable of looking after him, that's fine. But you were unconscious with vomit all over you in the driver's seat of a car. So, I'm just trying to figure out how long has it been since you checked on your kids? >> How an hour or so? What happened between when you checked on them and you ended up in the car passed out like that? >> An hour. >> But what happened? What took place between you checking on them and you ending up in the car in that condition? What were you doing? What what happened? >> Okay, so I had left >> and what was I doing? >> Something I was still trying to gather my thoughts because I don't want DCF. I don't want anybody else. I don't want >> Do your best to gather your thoughts. Just to be clear, these thoughts are in the last 2 hours, so it shouldn't be too hard to gather them. >> No, no, sir. >> Another secret about one of the children is revealed, further complicating the situation. >> Out of all respect, guys, you know what happened across the street? >> I don't know. >> My son right across the street. >> You're what? >> My son. >> Okay. He what? >> Logan Goodman died. >> Okay. >> Right across the street. >> I'm sorry to hear that. >> A year ago. >> Okay. I'm sorry to hear that. It's been very hard coping with that. >> Do you recall what happened between you checking on your kids and how you ended up behind the wheel in the condition? >> I am getting there, sir. >> Okay. >> Okay. I can understand how it looks. >> I'm sorry that you had to go through the things you had to go through in the past year or so. And I'm sorry for the loss of your son right now. My main concern, my priority is that while you were passed out in your vehicle with vomit on you in the driver's seat, your infant child was in the back bedroom alone, naked next to this knife, hiding behind a chair. >> Where's the vomit? It's It's >> in the car. There's a little bit on your shirt. There's some on your mouth, your nose. Your girls are with him now. They just got a diaper on them. >> I am not under the influence. >> Recovery. I have been cleaned. >> What are you in recovery from? >> January 20th. Okay. I have been >> What are you recovering from? >> A little bit of this, a little bit of that. Nothing hardcore. >> Does that have anything to do with how you ended up here this morning like that? >> No. >> The father is also drawn into the case. >> I work with Robert. He was needed a job. >> Who's Robert? her boyfriend, husband, >> the guy that lives here. We hadn't been able to get a hold of him, call him or nothing. So, they sent me up here to see if I could wake him up or see if he was home. He's just >> He's not home. >> My son has been teething. >> Okay. >> Okay. And every time that the police come around, okay, something happens to one of my children. >> Where's the guy that lives here? >> My husband? >> Yeah. >> He's at work. >> No, he's not cuz his work just showed up and they said they haven't heard from him. >> Are you serious? Is he passed out in here somewhere? >> Am I allowed to? >> We're going to go check. >> You're going to stay here for a second. >> This is my house. >> Just hold on a second. >> Yes, right now you are. Yes. We're trying to figure out a lot of stuff here. So, just hang out for a minute. >> Hesitate for >> Sit down, please. >> Can I please go to the bathroom? >> Sit down. We will figure that out after. Sit down. >> What's up? >> Why were you asleep on the bathroom for when there's a bed right there? >> That's no reason. What's going on? >> He's working his off. That's why. >> What is going on, man? I'll come over here. Hurry, I'll explain all of it to you. >> The confrontation reaches its peak when the mother behaves inappropriately in front of the police. >> What's the real question here, officer? >> We didn't just mosey on in the street and mos on into your house and just kind of start walking around. There are things that led to this. Can you describe what some of those problems were? >> Yeah, a caring called because I fell asleep. Can I please? >> Not yet. >> We just got here. We're still figuring things out. >> There's nothing in my urine. If that's what >> I'm not I'm not interested in your urine. >> Well, sorry, but I got to go. >> Listen, I can't stop you. You're not going in the bathroom. >> I know. I'm going right here, sir. >> If that's what you want to do, I'm not going to >> I have to, sir. >> Okay. >> Is this going to Is this going to give me a charge? >> It's your home. Um, if you cover yourself with that towel and whatever you're doing, >> I own this home. >> I can't stop you from doing that. At least I'm not going to as long as you're not displaying it to the public. Girls, girls, come here, please. These officers are having a hard time letting me go to the bathroom, so I have right here. If >> you could help her cover herself. I can't let her go in the bathroom by herself, and she's saying that she has to do that right now. So, >> this is how, baby. This is how I have to potty. >> I'm telling her to hold it, but she's >> This is how I have to >> Why? What is the problem? >> Can't let her go into the bathroom by herself right now. She's detained. I'm not going to let her go into a room separate by herself. Why she hates? >> I'm not telling her she has to do that, but she's saying that she has to go to the bathroom, so I'm not going to stop her. >> He's telling me I can't go inside to use the bathroom. >> Can we get this over with? If that's what you're going to do right now, you're covered. Do whatever you have to do. >> Can we please get this over with? >> What? >> No, I'm trying, but I can't with officers in front of you. >> I'm looking at the house across the street. >> I can't see. >> Listen, if you went out to dinner to get a bite to eat, sometimes have people have their teenagers watch their kids. That's one thing. But when you're both at home unconscious in the way that you guys were and the babies run around naked or hiding behind a chair naked with a knife next to them, we're p we're past we're past having our teenagers, you know, look after our kids cuz it's talking about hours. She can't tell me what happened the last couple hours. Tell me been asleep since one. So I don't know who's been watching these kids. >> She continues to lead the officers on with other unusual demands. >> I can tell you everything. Okay. >> Oh, we want to try this again. We can go for round four. What happened the last couple hours? >> Yes, >> it is now. What time is it? >> You're welcome to sit again if you want. >> Thank you. Can I have a cigarette? >> If there's one here. Is that good? >> Yes. >> He's finally got some good news. Got a cigarette. >> You got a cigarette for him? >> Absolutely. We're great parents. Okay. We've been under a lot of stress. >> That might be the case, but obviously, right, it doesn't look like you guys are. >> I know. >> She became emotional, attempting to explain her perspective to the police. >> We lost our son right there. >> I understand that. >> Have you been in that position? >> No, I haven't. But regardless of the situation, still need to care for your children. I mean, I can't >> care for my children. >> Can't explain that enough. It's our responsibility at this point to make sure for one that the children are okay and two that you guys are fit enough at the moment to care for them. >> Of course, we are. >> Right now, you don't you don't appear to be at all. >> I don't appear to be. >> I'm tired. >> Let me see something real quick. You mind if I shine this light here? >> No, go ahead. What you got to do? >> You can see this as well, correct? What? >> Her pupils don't react to light. >> No, I don't know what you want me to do. >> Typically, I mean, if somebody somebody's under the influence of narcotics, >> I had a brain injury three four years ago. >> So, has that caused your pupils to not react to light? >> I have hypothyroidism, too. Can I hug myself? >> Can you just wait a few minutes until we figure all of this out? >> Fell asleep in the trunk and not fell asleep in the on the toilet >> cuz we've been pushing ourselves, baby. We are living across from where our son died. We need to get out of here. It's not fair that we can't get out of here. No matter how hard we try, every day I wake up and I see my son on the pavement reliving it. The blood on his face reliving the broken teeth. No, but this is what I go through every day. Even after crossing all boundaries, neither the father nor the mother shows any sign of remorse. >> Well, you put it there to make me look like an even more of a dumb ass. >> You want to sit down as well? >> Yeah, baby. We're detained. Honey, we got to sit down and abide by the room. Nobody should be in our room, >> man. Just sit down. Okay. >> Okay. Nobody should be in our room, sir. There's no search for it. Nobody's in your room. Nobody's searching your home. There's a lot of >> Where's the rest of the officers sit? >> They're both standing right there. I can explain this to you. Can you sit down? >> Yes, I sit down. >> My hands are right here. >> It doesn't matter. Come sit down. >> Sit down, please. Just sit down. >> But they're in our bedroom. >> They're not in your bedroom. >> We have a lot of money back there. >> All of our cameras are on. Nobody's doing anything to you. >> Yeah. And how easy is it to push them off, sir? Come on, >> sir. You said you have one in your car. >> Yeah, he has one. says everything. >> You come over here and help me out with your car. >> In the end, all their unreasonable demands were denied and both faced legal consequences. Even in handcuffs, they looked at the officers in confusion, asking, "What did I do wrong? >> You are arresting me. >> Put your hands on your back. >> Why are you arresting me, sir?" >> For everything that we discussed. Okay. We covered everything several times, and if you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them, but I don't know what questions you would have. >> Yeah. Why am I being arrested? Well, that's definitely something we already answered. >> Okay. >> It's going to be Do you want me to be specific? It's going to be for >> the >> Yes. Put this in your mouth if you want to keep smoking it. >> Yes. Robert, >> we're going to go We'll talk to him. We're going to go over here to the >> car. Please give it one more big drag. Come on. We This is your second. We've been here for way too long. Let's just get this over with. >> Give it a good drag. Come on. >> All right. Drop it. >> There you go. Drop it. >> So, am I going to be able to say anything to my children or my husband? >> We'll let you talk to Robert in a second. >> Not my children. >> Not right now. No. >> He was supposed to be watching the kids. >> At this point, >> I was sleeping. >> I get it. But >> which alcohol and Michael will do that to you. You'll definitely pass out. >> Yeah, I was sleeping. I was that's what I was doing. >> At the end of the day, >> she was watching the kids. And >> that might be the case, but at the end of the day, it's both your responsibility. >> Nobody woke me up and said, "Hey, I'm leaving. I need you to watch the kids." Nobody did that. >> Took us a lot to wake you up, by the way. I was asleep. >> With all due respect, at the end of the day, we get a call. She slumped over the steering wheel and you're passed out on the bathroom floor with a toddler running around here in an active construction site inside your house. Broken glass, the doors unlocked, not latched. Both of you guys screwed up. And I think both of you need to just own up to it. Where's my kids going to go? We have to call DCF. They're going to have to put in some kind of parenting plan for now. >> Mother Chelsea was arrested for secondderee child negle while her husband Robert faced culpable neligence of a child. Chelsea received 36 months probation with conditions mandatory tests, counseling, and parenting classes and posted $2,500 bail after 6 days. Robert got the same sentence and bail after one day. Every adult must understand that children need not only care but constant safe supervision. Fatigue, stress, or personal loss can never justify neglecting them. Also in Florida, a 16-month-old girl was left briefly unattended in a car while her father shopped with her older brother. Can >> I ask why I'm under arrest for what? >> Cuz you left your child in an unattended car for 40 minutes. On May 3rd, 2025, Marian County police received a report from Walmart staff about a 16-month-old girl left alone in an unlocked car for 35 to 40 minutes while her father shopped with her older brother. Medical personnel and police quickly rushed to the scene to rescue the child. >> We got informed by another uh customer that there's a baby. The door is unlocked on the back side. I'm attending. Nobody there. >> Said they uh were informed by a customer that they saw a kid in the car without anyone else. Yeah, the kids awake or she's sleeping, but I uh rubbed her chest. She started moving. Who was the manager? >> We all are. >> All of us. Okay. >> Yeah, let me call you back. I got EMT here. I got to call you back. Bye. So basically I got a call from my front end associate saying that there was a customer claimed that there was a baby in a car unattended. The customer was here but and decided to leave. Then when we came out to address the situation that I couldn't tell if there was a baby in there or not. I opened the door and saw that the baby was in there but the baby's been in one piece. Basically as you found her is pretty much what we've been doing. Just standing making sure nobody comes and adjusts anything for the baby. But the baby's just been like that literally smooth. Have y'all seen anyone come by the car? Nothing like that. >> No, we came directly in the front. >> There's a Huh? >> We can pull the video. >> Yeah, we can pull it and make sure whatever we need. >> Hey, what's up guys? >> What's going on? >> What you got? >> Store said that they had a customer come inside. Tell them that they u said that they saw a kid unattended in the car. This front end and all the store managers end up coming out here. They walk up to the car, see if the car is unattended. No customer, nothing like that around. 744 is in the car seat sitting there. Uh, they said that the car was unlocked. They didn't open it or anything like that. When I got here, >> signal 44 weapon. >> Oh, sorry. It's a juvenile for us. >> Okay. Okay. >> When I got here, she was in the car seat. Didn't appear like she was moving or anything. So, I opened the door, rubbed her chest, and she started to move around. Medics got here, they pulled her out, and she's in there checking vitals now. >> Yeah, I'm talking to my guys now. He said they're a little she's a little lethargic, but she could also be a little sleepy girl. So, we're trying to figure that out. >> She also she's got like a scrape on her knee. >> Did uh anybody come out and play vehicle or kid? >> Not yet. I'm sure they're inside right now making a request for the the PA. >> The baby's critical condition forced police to take her to the hospital for a medical check, revealing the seriousness of the case. >> So, I have um their loss prevention is looking at the camera to see if they can see anyone exit the car. >> Was that mom? >> No. >> Anybody come up yet? >> So, assessing this kid, yeah, she's she's very young, one years old. Um he's saying that for his assessment, looks like she has a pretty nasty diaper that has not been changed. She's got dirt and scrapes all over her. She also seems like she's sick. He wants to take her to the hospital to get evaluated. Um, and given the state that she's in and the fact that she below, he's he's willing to just take off. But as far as the legality of it, having a conversation with you guys right now. Yeah. Give me one second. >> Greg Blo, how you doing? >> Doing good, sir. >> So, where we stand right now is obviously no one's came out to claim this young lady. My medic is assessing the she's like old. Don't have an exact age on her, but she's really young. for the assessment and she looks like she has a pretty stale old dirty diaper on. Pretty dirty herself from head to toe. Got a few scrapes and on her. He wants to transport her to the hospital to get evaluated by a physician. And given the state that she was left in, he's ready to take off right now. But as far as the legality of it, again, you >> Okay, so let me sort of legality. Aside from all those things, which I'm not saying they're right, but they're not immediate or help. Is there anything he's seeing fever? Anything like that? >> As of right now, we're not seeing any immediate life. The father and older brother appeared with a dubious excuse. She was sleeping, so I didn't want to wake her. You have your >> ID. Okay. What's your name? Is >> she in there? >> She's in the ambulance. What was the issue? Cuz she just came in for the She was sleeping. He came in to get me. She was still sleeping, but he was in the car with her and then he left and I'm in the middle of checking out. >> What time did you get here? >> 30 minutes ago. >> Okay. You were in the car with your sister. >> Okay. And you got out of the car. >> Well, she knows he shouldn't have done that. But >> there's the video and you watched it. >> I did. They both exited. >> And that's what I just confirmed with him cuz I didn't want to tip this guy off. Yeah. They both exit at the same time. So, >> but if he did leave him and the other kid in the car at the same time, he's still >> he's got no way to communicate. >> That's why he ran into >> Yeah. >> a family member. >> That's dad. Why is my baby sister? >> Because we was concerned about her. >> We want to make one 20 minutes been in the car the whole time. >> Mhm. >> You know, she not supposed to in there even with him cuz he underage also. >> So you have to be 18. >> No, but you got to be like a reasonable age. >> He's very smart. You just answer. I just get the groceries. I got three of her. >> Yes, sir. >> Are you the father? >> Yes, sir. >> So, this is where we stand right now. here. Okay. Is she also here? >> Yes. >> So, just so you're aware for our assessment, while we're not identifying any, she doesn't look like she was sick. It looks like something might be going on. Again, all we're concerned about is her wellbeing. Now, obviously, we're very limited on what we can't see, but we strongly suggest that she go to the doctor, get evaluated, go to the hospital, be evaluated by life physician, and if we don't find anything, then from there, she'll be mentally cleared. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. That's your sisters. We're getting the life vest. We were on the paddle board swimming all day cuz she's got sick. Uh the medic right here, if you can hear you, I just put those speed on it. >> You got to stay with me. >> All right, man. Why do I have to stay with you? >> Because we doing an investigation right now. So, you just have to stay with me. >> What are they saying? >> I don't know. >> I don't know. That's what the paramedics told you. People called in because they was concerned because they seen your daughter in the vehicle by that's all. And we got here, they got her, of course, evaluated her. Then that's here where we are now. >> Shortly after, the children's aunt arrived to carry out custody transfer procedures, marking a new turn in the case. >> You want to take custody of the kids? >> I will. >> Okay. Firey says the little one needs to go to the hospital and get checked out. >> Okay. >> Are you okay with that? >> Um, yeah, that's fine. >> Or put me on the phone with mom and I'll explain it to her and >> she knows. She knows and she said that she would take them, >> but I want to make sure they get there. So, I'd rather they do it and they'd be more comfortable doing it with some of the fire. No, fire rescue with some of the findings they've got. >> Let me call her. >> All right. >> Young man, go over here and talk to your aunt. Okay. >> You stay here with her. All right. >> Faced with Miranda rights, the father gave conflicting information about the situation, causing the police to gradually lose patience. >> Have you Miranda him? >> I haven't. >> All right. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can will be used against you in a court of law. Do you understand each of these rights I've explained to you? >> Yes, sir. >> Having these in mind, do you wish to speak to me? Yes, sir. >> Okay. Thank you. Why are we all out here in the parking lot of Walmart tonight? >> I left my son and my daughter in the car before I went in there to do some shopping and my son came in there. Did >> he get me? >> How long were you in there before your son came and got you? >> 5 10 years. >> What time did he finally find you in the store? about >> the time we get here at 9:20 maybe 9 >> 9:20 you said >> yeah so you probably 9:30 9:35 >> okay how about if we back up to when this all started and you start being honest with me >> no you're not >> cuz I've got you on video I know what the time frame is and it is not your time frame so why don't you start by telling me the truth and read through it again >> I'm don't know the exact time what time was it >> I I don't have to tell you what time it was you two children unattended in a car. I would know exactly what time I did it, how quick, how long it took me to get back out here. And you're telling me it took you at least 20 minutes after your son found you? >> I was in the store 30 35 minutes total. >> Let's go with 40 minutes. >> Okay. >> And your son was not in the car. Your son went in the car with you or went into the store with you. I know this for a fact. >> Yeah. My son came into the store with >> with you when you went in. >> Correct. >> In fact, when you came back out to the car, you bailed on your son, left him in the store. He didn't know where you were for a couple of minutes. I said told him to come on and he was in this toy aisle real >> and he was wandering around cuz you'd already made your way out here. Did he Was he on your heels? >> No. >> You him in a Walmart unattended even for 2 minutes. That's all it takes for somebody to snatch him. >> I'm scared to death. >> Yeah, you should be. I ran and he's over here doing push-ups and jumping on this car. I have three children and it's hard to deal with. As the lesson on the risks of child concluded, handcuffs were applied, emphasizing that hardships in parenting no longer offer protection. >> Let me tell you something. Okay. You went in the store at about 9:53. Yes. >> 953. >> 8:53. I'm sorry. >> Okay. >> All right. That about right. >> I'm listening. >> Your son went in the store with you, right? >> Yes. >> You were in there for 35 to 40 minutes before you heard a page to come back out to your car, right? >> And I came right out this room. >> The whole time you were in the store with your son? >> Yes. The whole time your daughter's out here in the car unattended. Correct. >> Correct. The >> car is not locked. Correct. The >> car was not locked. >> Did you know it was not unlocked? >> No. >> You thought you locked it? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Cuz we had a we had a light issue in the back. >> Okay. So, you're telling me that you were in the store for 35 to 40 minutes with your son with your daughter out here in the car? >> She was asleep in the car. >> Was and nobody was watching her >> on the water all day. Nobody was watching her >> except for >> except for the managers and when they became aware of this stood around this car for 30 minutes watching her to make sure nothing happened because you were in the store. Do we see a problem here? >> I can't lose custody. >> Do you do I custody is not your problem right now? Do you see where this is going? Set your cup on the truck. You're under arrest. Ask why I'm under arrest for what? >> Cuz you left your child in an unattended car for 40 minutes. >> The fact that you still don't know why you're going to jail is crazy. >> What is the charge? Child, >> my bad. You ever been arrested before? >> Yeah. >> In Florida? >> Yes, once. >> Okay. For what? >> Uh, it was a misdemeanor possession charge. >> Okay. What about in South Carolina? >> For what? >> A violation >> of just a matter. >> Just want to make sure you're understanding why this is happening, right? >> Yeah. We never um I do understand, but I just thought Toiletto sleeps, so he's exhausted. >> You understand the problem with that, right? >> Yes, but I just never think something would happen. >> But that's that's the problem is I've seen a ton of people think nothing's going to happen. Next thing you know, they're calling us because they can't find their child for stupid little reasons like this. >> He got the keys on him. >> Do you have the keys to the car?
