A boy was so hungry that he had to eat trash. >> I think a lot of him eating out of the trash is due to the trauma. >> My kids are not a It was not intentionally, I promise. >> A girl living among trash and dead cockroaches >> because I know you guys for him and I was scared and I'm trying to fix this terrible ammonia. You're covered in bug bites. >> Two tragedies, two mothers, but one shared outcome. >> Are you going to jail? >> I am. What's happening? When will children finally grow up in safe homes instead of suffering in silence? The answer lies in this video. A boy survives by eating trash. A mother about to give birth, but who doesn't know how to be a mother. And all of it was revealed thanks to a security camera. >> Yeah, I've I've had videos of him like when he take cuz she makes him take the trash out to do it. >> A child was chased out onto a cold porch in the middle of the night. So hungry he had to rumage through garbage to survive. living with a mother who was pregnant again while her first child was still. Sounds like a tragic novel, but it's real. Happening on September 9th, 2024 in Georgia. Everything was exposed when a man who had previously let the mother and her child stay with him accidentally checked the security footage and witnessed her her own child. >> Hello. >> Hey, Matt. >> Yeah. >> Deputy French with the sheriff's office. How are you? >> I'm all right. >> You shared some videos with Britney that occurred at your house off of your security camera this evening. Correct. >> Yes, sir. >> You ever seen her act like this before towards that child? >> I can't say that I've seen it with my own eyes. I've seen her get loud and rude with him, saying things. A lot of people have tried to go after her with defects and before and I've watched her get away with it so many times because nobody had any hard evidence. Nobody had proof that she was doing things. The little boy, he he won't tell on her for some reason. And so I put those cameras up for security reasons, but also on the slight chance that I would catch something like that. >> You just rent a room out to her or what? What's that situation? >> She had asked me if she could stay with me last year. She asked me around October and she asked if she could stay with me like a month or two. And I was like, "Yeah, that's fine." She said, "I'll be out by December." She didn't leave. She was dealing with defects at the time for something that another girl that I had staying with me had called defects on her about. It's like I told the other girl, you don't have proof that she did it and she's going to lie. You know, that's what people do. They lie about it. >> What is this Britney's telling me that you possibly seen this child eating from the trash can? >> Yeah, I've I've had videos of him like when he take cuz she makes him take the trash out to I've seen him on video stop on the porch and start digging through the trash and eating out of the trash. He's in therapy. She's got videos of him eating out of it. I think a lot of him eating out of the trash is due to the trauma. He doesn't know what to do anymore. >> Where's this child's father? >> His daddy is Keith Green. He lives in >> Is he a good guy or No, >> not particularly. I don't think he would be throwing him out on the porch in the middle of the night or nothing like that. >> Yeah. So, she what I'm seeing in that video is her putting that child out in the yard as some kind of punishment. >> Yeah, that's what I took it as too. I didn't really I don't really have much context on why she did it. >> Does she have any decent family that can take custody of this child? >> Her mom and her daddy live all the way Missouri somewhere or something. Her brother lives in Warner Robbins. I wouldn't send him over there either. She's right at 9 months pregnant, I think. >> Oh goodness. >> Yeah, she's about to pop. Like she told my buddy the other day she was 19 days away from having the baby. >> Who's the father of that one? Any clue? Unfortunately, I believe you're talking to him, but >> really, >> I don't know that for a fact. Also, me and her signed adoption paperwork for this child that she's currently pregnant with. >> This child that she's pregnant with, you're you're putting that child up for adoption. >> That was what me and her had agreed to. >> Okay. >> I definitely, you know, with the track record want the baby to stay with her. >> I understand that you're making a very smart, responsible decision. If >> I was making a smart, responsible decision, I wouldn't have done what I did with it. Well, we all have stories similar to that one, >> right? >> I'm going to be at your house momentarily to do a welfare check and we'll see where it progresses from there. >> Anyway possible. I would like to stay as anonymous as possible cuz she's a very vindictive individual and I don't want her going back to my house and tearing my up while I'm not there. >> The only problem I got with that, Matt, is the only evidence I got came off a video camera. is >> it's going to narrow it down pretty easily as to >> right >> where I got it to how I got it. >> How does that go after tonight? >> You will have to evict her, but I mean it depends on whether or not she has a bond or not, but I would go ahead and go through the eviction process. I might would even apply see if you can apply for a CTO order, a protective order. >> The police knocked on the door late at night. Just seconds later, the Miranda rightites were read aloud as they confronted the mother, Destiny. Sheriff's office. Sheriff's office. >> Sheriff's Office. How you doing? You Britney? >> Am I Britney? >> Yes. >> No, I'm Destiny. >> Oh, Destiny. That's what Destiny, right? >> Yes. >> All right. You just got a few questions. >> Sleeper. >> Um, actually, yeah. I was in bed. >> I've been knocking and knocking and knocking and knocking. Yes. You here tonight? >> Uh, me and my child. >> Uh, no. Three. >> You got three? >> Yes. >> Really? >> Yeah. All three of them here asleep? >> Yes, they're all asleep. Can I ask what this is about? >> Yeah, I'm here to do a welfare check. I'm beginning an investigation into some misconduct and I need to speak with you about it. For me to speak with you about it, I do need to read you your right, okay? To make sure that you understand those. Am I under arrest? >> No, ma'am. If you were under arrest, we'd be handcuffed and you'd be out of here. But the right way, okay? If you cannot afford to hire an attorney, won't be appointed to represent you. >> Want to speak into me now? >> Yeah, I got him. What I said in a nutshell is there is that you don't have to talk to me. You don't have to answer any questions or make any statements without an attorney. So, um that can't afford to hire attorney won't be appointed to represent you for any questioning if you wish. Okay. Having these rights in mind, do you understand the rights of explain to you that you don't have to talk to me if you don't want to? Yes. >> Okay. Having those rights in mind, do you wish to talk to me now? >> Um I would like to know what's going on. >> Okay. Well, I got to get past that first though and then I'm going to lay it all out there for you. Having those rights in mind, do you wish to talk to? >> I'm not sure what the best option is. >> That's one that I can't make for you. >> If I choose to talk to you, am I at will? >> Yes, you can stop talking to me anytime you want. >> I mean, would I be arrested for anything? >> No. For not talking to me? No, ma'am. No. No. That's >> If I choose to talk to you. >> If you choose to talk to me, then you can stop talking to me at any time you'd like. You can refuse to answer any question that I may have or anything whatsoever. And at any time, you can stop the conversation. Okay. With speaking with me? >> Yes. The police had clear evidence. She shoved her seven-year-old child to the ground. Yet, she calmly responded, not intentionally, as if child use is now called an accident. >> The three children that you have here, how old are they? >> 7, five, and two. >> 75 and two. >> Yes. >> Can they live here with you full time? >> Yes. >> Who else lives here? >> Uh, Matthew Lusk, the guy that I was just on the phone with. >> Okay. He's not here right now. >> No, he's at work. >> The seven-year-old. >> Uh-huh. >> What time did he go to bed? That's a male or a female seven-year-old. >> Male. >> Male. Seven-year-olds. >> They go to bed. Well, we got home late, so he went to bed a little later. >> What's the seven-year-old's name? >> Ace. >> Ace. >> Yes. >> AC E. >> Yeah. If this is about him being outside earlier to go to the bathroom. His sister was the the other bathroom earlier and so he had to pee. So, he went outside and when his sister came outside, she shut the door not knowing that he was outside. He wanted to go outside to pee. That's the only thing that I can think of. >> Okay. >> So, what was he doing out in the yard? >> He was outside peeing >> peeing. >> Peing by a tree. >> Was he in good spirits? >> He was crying, but that was about >> that. I have probably cuz it was dark. I turned the light off. >> Why'd you do that? >> I don't have a reason. He's My kids are not a If that's what this is about. >> What it is about is when you open that door to let that young out. >> Do what? >> When you open that door to let that seven-year-old out on the porch. >> Mhm. You knocked him off his feet. >> No, I did not intentionally. >> Yes, ma'am. You did knock him off his feet. I have a video of you knocking him off his feet. >> It was not intentionally. I promise. >> How do you accidentally knock a seven-year-old off his feet? >> I didn't push him. I want to stop talking now. >> All right. >> But I didn't push him. I didn't do any of that. But I understand why you guys are here. Is there anything else I need to do? >> You said you wanted to stop talking to me right now, but I have to stop with that. You have open defects case. has got nothing to do with tonight's situation. You have open defects cases in the past. >> I had a one with my ex-husband. >> Is there something that needs to happen? You going need to call someone to come get my kid >> right now. You just call now. >> What's going on? Can you please tell me what's going on? >> You said you wanted to stop talking to me. Okay. >> I don't need defects. Please. >> I came over here telling you that I have an that I'm involved in investigation. Part of that process is that I uh speak with you. There you go. >> All right. Where's ASAP? >> He's in his bed. >> Okay. He's in good spirits and in good condition. >> Yes, he usually is. >> Will you wake him up and let me take blend my eyes on him? >> I will. >> The victim, who was also the key witness, suddenly turned the tables by denying all accusations. From there, the investigation hit a suspicious dead end. >> Hey, how you doing, man? >> Huh? Sleepy. Sleepy. My name's Reggie. Your name is Ace, right? You mind walking out on the front porch and talking to me for a minute? Is that okay? It's okay. You can come here. We've been through this before already include defects. >> And he was taken and so was his sister, but it was due to my ex-husband and I'd really rather not go through this again. >> I understand that. But you also understand that I have a responsibility to make sure that the safety and well-being of all children. >> I understand. >> Okay. And from what I've seen, that ain't the case. >> I understand. >> Ace. Did you go earlier to go pee and got upset? Did you fall coming out the front door onto the porch? No, >> you didn't fall. You don't remember walking out the front door here and somebody taking their hand on the back of your head, forcing you out and you landed on your face? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Why was that? >> Uh-oh. >> Was somebody upset at you or aggravated with you? >> Yeah. >> It's okay. You can talk to them. So, can you tell me what's going on now? >> Yeah. You were I mean, you're being investigated. >> Well, what does that mean tonight? >> That means we're looking into the events that transpired over the city. very concerning. >> Okay. >> And clearly illegal. >> What I'm going to do right now, which is traditionally what we do, I'm contacting one of our juvenile investigators. You reach out to somebody's family or friends. >> Working on it. >> You have family. >> 26. >> Just my brother, which I haven't called yet. So, can I ask what the next steps are? What? >> Waiting on the detective. We'll hand it over to him and he'll take it from there. You got to keep in mind that when I read you Miranda and asked if you wanted to talk to me and you said you were done talking at that point in time I kind of got to be done talking. How old were you? >> 27 and expecting. So this is stressful. >> You and Matt just roommates? >> Yes. >> Just roommates. We've been friends for a really long time. For years actually. >> You have any criminal charges in the past? >> No criminal charges. Just driving without a license. >> Just criminal. >> Oh. >> You've been guilt >> when I was 18. >> Driving without a license. No, the charges since then. >> Um, >> yes, >> I think. Yeah, against my son's dad. >> A mother should be the safest place, but when the mother herself drives away, pushes down, and abandons the child in the cold, the child will lose trust in adults, gradually withdraw, and live in a state of caution, distancing from the whole world. >> The cop said he has a video of Ace being shoved out of the front door. So, that's what the call is about, the wellness check. But I needed you awake just in case something happened. >> You get taken by my dad. >> I know. I'm scared to but they're here because of where we are. You know that when he asked you what happened on the porch play baseball? >> No. Do you play whipple? >> I never played those sports. >> No sports. You don't like them? >> I do like sports, but I just never played one. Can you run like the wind? We can. >> Yes, my sister can run, >> too. Should we be expecting somebody? >> Yes, my ex-husband. Okay. >> He has kids here. >> No, we were together for 6 years, so he helped me raise all of them. Gota street sweeper in the corner. >> You notice that? >> Mhm. >> I'd say that's a lot less than >> I'm going to the restroom. You want to sit out with him? Copy. >> Hey, how's it going? >> And it shows you either smack him on the stack or on the back of the head and him place first on the porch and then out crying. >> Crying cuz it was dark. >> Well, and then you turned the light out on him. >> The light was never on. >> Well, supposedly in video I'm just going by what he told me. I said, "So, is she going to jail?" And he said, "If it works up to me, yes, on what I've got right now, she going to jail. But it's going to go to juvenile officer who's locking up an 11y old right now. >> She said you're getting old. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Let me get five. Let me get Let me get some. >> What you doing? >> Talking about >> he's talking to Gage though. >> I got woke up at almost midnight. >> Hey brother, real quick. She got some breakfast she can. >> Man, I don't live here. >> You don't live here? >> I live here. I got my own place. I visit her place. >> Fair enough. Fair enough. >> Are you going to jail? >> I am. Amy, >> can you come get the kids? Okay. Well, they've got everybody here. So, >> is he once? >> He's waking up and said he'll try. He lives over by the old sheriff. Well, not I guess. >> I guess the question is, is he willing? >> Are you willing to come? If not, they're going to put him in foster care. >> I give you a hug. >> Yeah, you can give him you can give her a hug in just a second. Okay. >> I mean, can you take the cuffs off so she can at least get dressed? She ain't going nowhere. >> Is he coming or not? >> Are you coming? See me. >> Are y'all tuning in? >> What? >> No. >> Do they have like car seats? They're in my car. >> In my purse. >> You want me to take a car for the house? >> Please don't leave it here. >> Must be your car. >> I need to take your purse. >> No, I gave you my card. Talk to her and ask her to sign a while back then. And if she said don't go for it. >> Ace recounted everything having to use the outdoor bathroom in the cold just because mom said so. Every detail filled with fear and pressure. Yet in the end he still whispered, "I'm not happy about taking my mom to jail. >> Something happened and she won't be in there forever. >> Yeah. Okay, I just need to talk to Ace for a quick second and then >> and do you have Yi just to document who the two children? >> She told me to go all the way over there past that tree and do it. You don't fall into it. Then she asked her right as her right here. She said 1400 mileage >> while you were out here. >> Yes. Let's go use it. It was working that >> clear the charging will be released soon. >> So it was unlock that thing was on that red light on the camera was on. >> And so when after you use the bathroom and open the door, what happened after that? >> I cancel. So I I went back to standing at the corner. Then she came out told me to go to bed. >> Did anything else happen like while you were outside? >> No. >> No. Did you follow her anything? >> No. >> So why did she tell us to come outside? >> Now that she put it up that other one down there on the game room porch. >> So why did you come to use the bathroom? Do you mean a lot? Like why didn't you use the bathroom in the house? >> I don't know. >> I don't know. You use the bathroom after all the time? >> No. >> All last night she was me. So she woke me up to this making my mom to jail which I I am not happy about. >> Okay. Me either. I'm not about that either. I just wanted >> Did y'all take her to jail because of that or did she just do something else wrong? >> Well, that's why I was trying to figure out what happened when you were outside when you came outside the bathroom. Well, I guess see the one over there watching me. The camera can be I think it I guess he was watching that camera cuz he had a camera another camera. Oh, I like >> Okay. >> Ace's testimony might have been unclear because it was given right in front of his mother. But then the 2-year-old child appeared. Skin and bones. Clear signs of starvation so obvious you could see the ribs leaving no room for denial. >> I don't know what happened but >> Alison Alison I need to stop the quarter. >> Go get it running for no reason. He was in the corner because he ignored my mom because he wouldn't take his shoes off. >> What's his name? >> Frankly Shabbo >> last night. I don't know what she did. >> Spell shel c h a w o. >> Have you seen your mom? Uh uh >> yeah. >> Yeah. Put her hands on you. >> April 15th. >> Only when she me >> 2022. >> Has she smacked Brantley in the face? >> All right. Just give me a second. Get my phone away. >> Hey, you still in jail? Oh, yeah. Probably need to hit her with another char. A little kid, Brantley. They brought him out. He got bruises all over him. Looks looks mouth. Look like she hasn't been feeding him. You can see his ribs and everything. >> And them ain't falling bruises. Thank you. Can you open his diaper to see if there's any dusions on his diaper? >> Hey, so this is um Deputy Harden here. We just met at um house. Probably need to put another charge on her cuz um she's getting charged with that. >> Okay. I know. That's your car all day. >> Yeah. Oh, absolutely. She get in charge of that. >> But she's going to blame it on on Ace and Ace only the way he is because I >> She ain't going to blame it so far. They both stood right here and heard her say it. These freaking boots say it. >> These freaking bruises don't come from a child. They come from a person's pain. >> So if they leave with y'all if I sit in the sit >> unless they can unless they can find somebody. >> Well, they're not they're I'm not going to sit there and deal with >> But you're not going to take to ask if there's any way I could use visitation to see them. He left perfectly normal, healthy, developed that fine baby, happy, you know, went into >> back from foster care. He he shows very strongest. >> The mother named Destiny has been charged with child. Under current Georgia state law, she could face a prison sentence of 10 to 15 years. The court made an eye bail or only granted under especially strict conditions. A society has failed when children suffer to the point that only a security camera can open a way out without shifting from punishment to prevention, education, and sustainable support. This tragedy will happen again, just at a different address. Just when the Ace case seemed the ultimate heartbreak a few months later, for 100 miles away in Florida, a 5-year-old girl was abandoned in a garbage pile because I'm on my period. >> And my mom's a little on her period, so I haven't mopped the floors yet. Palm Coast, Florida. May 20th, 2025. A 5-year-old girl was taken to the emergency room suspected of abuse. This triggered a welfare check at her home carried out by Flaggler County Police Department together with the Department of Children and Families. At the scene, strong urine smell, animal feces scattered, dead cockroaches everywhere, mold covering the sink. The whole house looked deserted. So, what will Autumn with, the woman behind it all, say to justify this terrible scene? So, is it just you tonight? Okay. Um, I can't remember Miss Witch, right? >> So, do you have a spot where we can go where it's like a little bit less cold and hot? Can you play? >> Yeah. [Music] >> And then girl on her period, so I haven't mopped the floors yet. >> Anytime. >> I don't want to stay in my room. >> Stay on the porch. things to change and I because I know you guys were involved and I'm scared and I'm trying to fix try to fix it with so much breach and everything but it keeps happening and I don't know what to do and I'm so sorry. >> You're getting yourself all worked up. Okay. There's also some concerns that are related to your new partner. Tell me what your relationship with him is like. >> It's perfectly fine. Has he put hands on you? >> No. Never. Never. >> Is there anybody else in the house putting hands on you? another male. >> No, I just have to touch base with you cuz last time I was here, the other mom was dealing with it. I mean, you girls have, you know, about your understand I've known this man for over 10 years. We're like high school sweethearts now. >> How long has been staying? >> He's only been staying here since the end of February. Okay. >> And small. >> He's small. >> No, his mom. >> His mom. >> His mom. She We go over there a lot, too. That's also live. Not really here. Is this the home that your family owns? >> No, this is the home that Lex family owns. >> Does she still own it though? Cuz when I was >> Her brother does, John, >> he works a lot. He doesn't get off until like 5 >> cuz I know that there had been some flooding too. Has the health department been out to inspect it for anything? >> No. >> No, not right now. >> We'll we'll drug screen. I mean, I know, baby. So if he has follow cuz I know this case a little differently. So if you have additional things you like me to ask of her. >> Okay. Is there is there anybody else doing drugs in the house? >> No, we just do the medical marijuana. That's >> But you do that in the house? >> No, we do it outside. Was Lexi smoked inside though? >> Yeah. She doesn't live here anymore. We don't ever. It doesn't smell like marijuana, but it smells like urine. They smell like you have like 20 cats in there. >> I explained what it is. But no, I'm telling you there's a difference between medication and uses his medication, his urine terrible >> and exploring his substance use, right? Are the children being exposed to it? >> He keeps everything in his >> his alcohol and everything he keeps in his drunk. So where's he getting drunk? [Music] another like we've had instances where he was trying to come out and get out of here. >> Yes. The excuse for this filthy and lazy lifestyle is being poor. >> I was warned by my landlord and I called the cops. I get kicked out and I have two children away. We're desperately like I'm going on social security so I can have income coming in. He's got a really nice job and he's really thinking we're trying to get out here. >> We're desperately trying to get out of here. We're looking at a couple months and by the end of the year we're not going to be here. I was trying to get out of here with my taxes, but they made me pay house taxes because no one else have taxes coming in. So, I either paid house taxes or I got out as soon as possible >> cuz I had like And then what's up with the garbage service? When did that start? Who's responsible for that? John because they told us we could pay $60 to add on to a can. So you guys just need to like collectively do >> Megan. Megan >> we've done a couple dumb get >> from being on my period best friend passed away to afraid of being evicted. Now it's haven't arranged a schedule for the child to go to school. All the excuses have been laid out. But in this crying and blaming, the one thing missing is the responsibility of being a mother. >> We've done a couple dump runs. Our friend, our late friend Dakota, he just passed away 3 weeks ago. He was helping us take stuff to the dump back and forth a couple times in the he >> child's father. >> No. Oh, he's not. >> Where is their dad? >> Um Corey, I have not heard of our child support case. >> Abuse divorce. Yes, he's the one that had the misdemeanor on it. He has not been anywhere close to us since over a year. Our case closes on June 4th for his um >> Not you. Go inside. R inside. Hi, baby. You're outside playing in the dirt again. >> No. >> Uh-huh. Couple Oreos on. >> Oh, that's okay. Watch out, baby. trying to break her with the potty train. Have breakfast this eggs. >> Well, I know. A little messy. But >> you're going to go to school next year though, right? She's going to school in the fall. >> In the fall. >> In the she going? >> I got an appointment to take her down to school for next month. >> Okay. You don't know yet? Um, no. We're going to try and get her tonight. I've gotten told by like my heart specialist knows why I don't feel like angry or get upset. She knows everything. Like I was like that as a child and they didn't do anything about it. So I was just bored and I was acting out in class because I was bored. I knew everything. I aced every task. So I just want to make sure that I'm not going to do that. >> You're covered in bug bites. Are those what kind of bugs are mosquitoes? scratch them, huh? You need bite and then make >> No, I don't think boooos go away. >> That's right. That's pretty smart. >> You want to step in and I'm going to out here with me? Okay, I'm going to close the door to have privacy. >> You trust that I'm going to take your >> The mothered the child. The father disappeared from the child's life. They created a serious gap in the child's development. Yet, the authorities could not make a final decision and had to leave to wait for the full presence of the family and the detective. >> Okay, you're going to just talk to me for a minute. Okay, kiddo. >> Okay, >> so look at me. You remember me? >> Mhm. >> Mhm. >> What's your name? >> My name is Shauna. What's your name? We may leave. Sometimes we in the book depending on how bad it is. >> And if it keeps happening, you know, one two on the butt. >> Never use any Anything else besides your hand? >> No. >> And it's just you and Veto that's doing the discipline that nobody else >> doesn't know. How long have you guys been together? Since January. January this year. 10 weeks pregnant. Because >> in the time that you guys were together in the past, have you ever did control your finances? >> You know the difference. >> Can I have help, please? >> I want help. I want help, please. >> Is there anybody locking you guys in? >> I want help to get the >> Sometimes I lock myself in the room, but that's when we're taking a nap, and that's cuz I don't want anybody, you know, walking in on doesn't feel good. Luka takes a nap. I'll take a nap. Um, my friend's ex [Applause] is he back in the kitchen. No, but he's mad at me because I am currently the mediator between his baby mama. >> Does he have access to the house? Is he inside your home? >> Never. He hasn't been in this since December still with that one chick. >> No, they just broke up. In fact, >> when they literally just >> What's wrong? >> I'm trying to get this. >> Is she mad at you by any chance? >> No, she's not mad at me. I talk to her every day. She comes over. She helps him with the kids. I seat belt hers. >> No, she's not mad at me, but he could be mad at me because I see his hand, please. He has his son and he keeps his pack and play when his son can walk. My son when he's over a year or something get out of the car. >> No, I think he's [Music] information. [Music] Okay. I'm going to need to speak to household members. I need to be like John protecting David to have knowledge of what could be going on in my home. Then I'm going to try to speak with Mavis. And this gentleman said he's just been living here since January. >> I'll try to speak with him then as well. >> Why are you crying? >> Calm down. have the seat belt on. >> 8 days later, they returned, this time bringing an arrest warrant. Poverty may be understandable, but washing dishes in the bathtub piled up garbage, mosquitoes, and mold. That's not due to lack of money, but the lack of awareness from adults. [Music] Hello Hello. Hello, ma'am. I'm looking for Miss Autumn Wit. That's you. Okay. I just had a couple of questions about Hello, sweetie. We just had a few questions about DCF followup. Um, yeah.
