We got to GET PEOPLE INVOLVED. >> [screaming] >> CALL THE POLICE. AND I'M AN OFFICER. IN POLICING, you'd be surprised how many time officers pull over off-duty officers. And normally it ends really, really easy with either a warning or sometimes even a citation, depending on the behavior. But rarely ever does it escalate to a point where the officer who gets pulled over takes off from the traffic stop, has to be taken into custody, and ends up sitting in jail with felony charges. This is one of those. How are you doing? Do you have your license and insurance, please? When the driver rolls down their back window like that, it's very interesting cuz it makes me wonder how they are that aware to know that we want to see that. It's interesting. >> What about being pulled over? Well, a couple of things. Number one, you're speeding. Number two, you have a license plate cover. Okay, it's going to stay there. I'm sorry, I can't understand you. What? It's going to stay there, so you going to >> going to stay there? That. The license plate cover. Okay. Do you have insurance for the vehicle? No, go ahead and take it. I'm not looking. You don't have insurance for the car? >> insurance, but I ain't got it with me. It's at home. Okay. Is this your current address? No. No? Positioning of the officer, why are we here with our torso and our head right here? Get back behind that doorjamb, give ourselves an opportunity to be safe in case we have to engage this driver in some type of gunfire. >> Hold on. Hold on. I'm an officer and I'm armed. My gun is right here, so you don't go crazy. Here we go. Cuz it's right here. I just remembered. Okay. Here you go. I got to take you to the station. Okay. All right, come on. Get the ticket on or let me go home. I got [ __ ] to >> understand why you're acting like this. >> So this is his work ID that shows that he's a corrections officer with Cook County. But again, we're just now hearing that he's an officer, he has a firearm, and we're still standing right in this line of fire. If he's really even an officer, we haven't confirmed that yet. >> know cuz I'm I'm irritated today. Okay. I mean >> I'm right I'm right here at the crib. I got another crib right here. I'm just ready to go home. I'm tired. Okay, so what is your actual address then? The What The address that this car comes back to is what you just wrote down. Yeah. Okay. That's the only one you need. >> Okay, is that What town is that in? That's Naperville. Cuz I stay over here I got apartment over here. >> in there. >> And down You know that that's downtown Naperville. That's when you take a look at the positioning of the officer's vehicle. And while I am constructively criticizing her positioning here, she did a really good job positioning her vehicle with the tire turned out like that. When you drive by police cars now, you'll see and you can tell if the officer's positioned properly in case the vehicle gets hit, and it also provides cover for the officer. >> There's no other Main Streets? Hold on. Why did you jump out the car so quick? Stay in the car for me. Why did you run my license plate? Rule of a car stop. If it's two officers, the uniform officer on duty runs the show. Full stop. That's it. What do you need? Well, I'm trying to do something. No. Why are you You can't leave. Follow me. WHAT DO YOU NEED TO TALK ABOUT? FOLLOW ME. NO, I'M NOT FOLLOWING YOU. From 22, he decided to pull off from my traffic stop. Felony. He claims he lives over here somewhere and he wants me to follow him home. And 22, send me another car. What do you need to I I wanted to talk to you. Yeah, and I was told you I'm TRYING TO RUN ALL THE WAY UNPROFESSIONAL. You You doing things wrong. >> Unprofessional. >> Now, do you want me to talk on your taser and tell me every tell you everything you did wrong? >> Why don't you stand Go back in your car. >> in the house. You got my ID. You The plates come back to with the ad the address. Do your job. Or go get a supervisor. Write the ticket. But number one, number two, I want your taser. I asked you, "What are you pulling me over for?" You said a number of things. What What was the number of things? You only said my plate. I said >> I said speeding. Oh, I'm speeding. How fast was I going? No. You don't know. You see what I mean? Come around, knock on the door, I'll give you the ticket. Cuz I don't even trust nothing. person. Cuz she got it on her taser cam. I believe the reason why he's saying taser is because the company taser is really Axon. And they not only when you look at your body cam videos, you'll see that they have the archive of most body cams. And maybe he sees that and that's why he's saying taser. I was confused as to why he was saying taser, but that's my guess. >> I showed them my taser cam. And both of them look like they're scared. I'm not scared of you, sir. Okay, I got pulled over for possibly speeding. I don't know. And the plate cover. Okay. The only reason she seen the plate cover cuz I was speeding. Correct? When you pull me over when she come to the car you can see You can read my plate. I know I ain't I ain't on patrol. I know she's supposed to run my plate and and send it in. She come to my car, I give her my license. She asking me, "Is this the correct address?" I said, "No. This car comes back to another address." She would have known cuz I kept on telling her the same [ __ ] She would have known that should she had a read the plate. She might not have read it yet. I don't know. I haven't I know, but she coming to the car now. I got my gun on me and [ __ ] underneath the seat cuz I had just went in the grocery store or whatever, right? So now I'm like, "Oh shit." She's standing here, she see my gun. Let me show her my officer. And she still ain't giving me the [ __ ] ticket, you know what I'm saying? Or whatever she going to do. That's what I'm tripping on. We still here talking. She called her her back up. What we talking about? I got [ __ ] to do. Okay. A traffic infraction. And I told her I'm an officer. I said, "Can Hey, can I talk to you?" cuz I wanted to ask her something. I forgot what it was. over there. I can't walk back to her because she's scared of me. Where are you an officer at? Cook County Sheriff's Department. I drive the buses. I drive the big bus. I drive the inmates to court to other counties. I'm in the process of retiring. 17 years. I'm currently on the job. So you last ran, is that right? Yeah, I pulled over. I pulled over over here because she won't come to the car and talk to me. I can't come to the car and talk to her. So what the [ __ ] we standing here for? And she know I'm an officer. So what What is we we talking about? >> though, if you're an officer, you should know that you need to stay there, right? What did I do? You left the scene. Oh, that sound like a [ __ ] report. You left the traffic stop. >> I Did I try to get your attention to come to Yes, and I was in the middle of doing something. >> Okay. At this [laughter] point, my advice to officer, why even respond to this guy? What I'd say to him is, "You wanted a sergeant, you got a sergeant. Talk to the sergeant." Because he's trying to run the show. He's directing these questions to her because he wants to boss her around and intimidate her. >> Okay, who do you work for? Cuz in this capacity, you work for me. And so I'm You told me not to get out the car. That means come here. You asked me what. I said I needed to talk to you. We have kind of a way we do things, right? We get the information, whatever, we go back and make sure everything's going right. And I got the protocol. Well, I know what I'm operating. Great. But what she doing, she she operating in in the red. She [ __ ] up. And I'm trying to give her a big up. you call her up doesn't mean she can drive everything come right back, right? >> I can't come to her. That's true. And but at a traffic stop, you got to kind of wait, right? >> the rules. I followed the rules. Well, you might have. I don't know. No, hold on. Wait a minute. You know I followed the rules. I asked her to come here and she said she was too busy to do it. But she wasn't doing nothing when she stepped out the car halfway and said, "What do you want?" Right. So you can't tell me you can't [ __ ] me. [ __ ] somebody else. >> anybody. Listen. This is how it works. Like she stepped out, she She acknowledged I know. I know. I respect She acknowledged that you waved at her, right? But she's in the middle of something. She can't just stop and come back and forth through You That's not how it works. And I mean you kind of know that, right? >> an [ __ ] because she was being who she is. Okay, and that's I'm And all I did All I did was work within the rules. I didn't break no rules. I asked her to come here. You broke a serious rule. You drove off from a traffic stop, which in most jurisdictions is a felony. >> I pulled off. She got my license. What the [ __ ] I'm going to do? I I Here go my other address. This plate That plate come back to the same [ __ ] address. And I left it open so they can run the plates and all that. What address is that? Who's it belong to? Me. My company. Okay. town Naperville. Being that you're an officer and you know how things work, why would you leave? Because she wouldn't come, so I had to But that makes no sense to me. That makes no sense. >> I had to make her come to me. I can't Look, I was doing what I needed to do to control the situation. But that's the thing though, you don't And you know as you know >> I made her do what I wanted her to do. Hey, I do this. You don't I know. So you should know at that point, you don't control the situation. >> I never did control the situation. But I brought it to where I wanted it to be. Y'all don't realize that. Cuz I work in the jail. I play with criminals. This is a learning lesson. You know that. You know this a learning lesson. Cuz she shouldn't have even followed me. See, come on, man. She did wrong, I did wrong. We both [ __ ] up. You know that. >> First of all, tell me how she did wrong and then tell me how you did wrong. If she seen I'm going through a mental health crisis cuz you don't know me, so you got to assume it is a mental health crisis. You And I showed you my ID. At that point, it should have been de-escalated. You should have took your hand off your waist, all that [ __ ] We should have had a conversation amongst peers. If you going to write the ticket, you going to write the ticket. I didn't care. I never did care. So why is she writing the ticket when you waved at her and left? >> she was doing. She was taking all goddamn day. So then how did you and then you report We're We're all reporting wrong. Um So you said she messed up and then you messed up. So now How did No, I didn't mess up. All I did was I got what I wanted. >> wrong or she did wrong and you did wrong, I guess you said. What she did You just told me what she did wrong. What did you do wrong? >> when I come out here, I left the garage door open. I left the gun and I showed her that I left the gun in the car. So it ain't no thing. Then she pull up, I'm trying to talk. I'm trying to close the distance so I ain't got to yell and all these cuz she know this And and But it is what it is, man. And you know this [ __ ] Yeah, I'm telling the truth. And you can't even Hey, man. Hey. I'm just trying to figure out what would possess you Cuz I got a mental >> to leave other than other than mental health crisis cuz she Okay, she's going through a mental health crisis. Okay. >> I'm bipolar and she initiated that me up. >> do you need I don't need no I need to relax. I'm running my bath water. >> Okay. I cut it off since I came out here. >> Right. Do you need an ambulance right now? No. >> Self-reported mental health crisis in possession of a firearm arguing with the police. This is a serious situation, especially if this guy legitimately works as a law enforcement officer at a correctional facility. >> I'm just telling you who I Okay, so what so what We all got something wrong with us. What the hell? >> Well, you said you had a mental health crisis. I'm just making sure >> Yeah, she she triggered it with this [ __ ] >> Okay. Look, man. I'm trying to bridge this gap between the divider between this [ __ ] We shouldn't even be having this conversation. All right? Mhm. >> What I'm trying to do in Naperville, I'm trying to bridge the gap. >> Okay, one way one way to bridge the gap would be when you get pulled over, pull over like you did. And you did great. You did great. >> all the windows down. All the windows down. >> You did great. You did great on that. But then don't just leave. Man, I told you why I left. And I was a slow speed leave. >> A slow speed leave is something I have never heard of. A slow speed leave is just as felony as a high-speed leave. They're both straight to jail. >> But you understand how it works, right? >> I understand. I got you. I got you. >> And you can't just you can't just say, "You know what? Screw this. I'm leaving." You can't just do that. You can't do that. >> We're going to place you under arrest for leaving the scene of a car accident. Yeah, for leaving. All right. So, you don't mind just turn around for me? Uh this time >> Hey, can I make a call though? Hold on. Hold on. Can you lock up my house cuz I got [ __ ] >> Yeah, we will. Yeah, here you go. >> Okay. Come on. First of all, um I was waiting on you to say that. >> is this locked? Do do I swear Do everything right. Thank you. We will we will definitely do >> you. >> I need my phone though. >> Okay, where's that at? You got me handcuffs. Can I walk with you inside my house? I'm handcuffed. I can't do [ __ ] Just so it doesn't tighten up on you. Just so it doesn't tighten up on you, okay? In custody-ish, the sergeant says, "I'm going to take you to jail." We're letting him know we're going to take him to jail. I don't know that he conferred with the officers. This is a big guy and that's part of the reason why this has dragged on as long as it has. Is this the best practice to let him know exactly what we're going to do, when we're going to do it, and are we ready to do that? >> is the first time I got handcuffs on me. Yeah. Let me make a scene. >> No, no. >> Hey, hey. Let's not make a scene. Hey, what you call cuffs on a officer? Let's I'm a Cook County Sheriff. >> Okay, let's see. You want to get your phone? Let's get >> No, no. No, we going to make this No, we going to make A SCENE. Y'ALL WANT TO PUT US UP? HEY! ALL RIGHT, WELL WE'RE NOT GIVING YOU YOUR PHONE NOW. We're not giving you your phone. >> Okay, if I don't get my phone, I'm not going in that place. >> Well, yes, you are. You going to give me my phone. >> Okay. Y'all going to pick me up. >> to leave us Are you going to stop making a scene? I want my phone. Are you going to stop making a scene? >> Yeah, if I get my phone. your phone. Only one person going in my house. >> No, we're all going in. No, it ain't Okay, well then we're not giving you your phone. Let's go. Well, then I'm not going. Hold on. Y'all put cuffs on me and I came back out here. I ain't going nowhere. Y'all going to All right. Do your job. I'm a inmate now. I'm a inmate now. Yep. That's what you like. You got it. Are you going to make your heart call someone? Come on. Come on. Come on. No, you're not going to not going to leave my house unsecured. My weapon right there. >> We will get it. We will get it for you. We will get it. We got to get PEOPLE INVOLVED. HEY! HEY! SAM 33 >> HEY! HEY, CALL THE POLICE! Sam 33 My gun in my car! And I'm a officer! The sergeant got on the radio and asked for another unit to assist him. >> Come on, Chris. They know I'm a officer! Oh, man. Y'all want to play Theo Tillery with me? All right. No, ain't no ain't no Chris. >> Let's go. No. Let's go. Chris, come on, buddy. >> Y'all want to play inmate? >> Oh, I saw that. You're a officer. I saw that. Hey, what you see? Come on. I'm a handcuffed. No, we can get some people out here. You want to get some people out here? Yeah. >> All right, we'll wait right here then. Okay. Turn your head back for me. No. Yep. Come on. All right, you're good. You're good right there. You're good right there. You're good. You're good right there. All right, y'all got me over the thing. Y'all don't have to keep on going. No, we didn't. >> putting my head on the the car. I'm not putting my head down. >> head down now. Put it down for me. No, I'm not going to do Okay, I'm not putting it down. You got all this pressure on me. That [ __ ] don't work. Yeah, come on. I'll push you with you. That [ __ ] don't work. >> I tried to be nice to you. I tried to be nice to you. No, you ain't being nice to yourself. That makes no sense, [clears throat] dude. Dude, all you doing is you making a you making a news report. All you doing is making a news report. >> No, you're making a news report. Okay. We going to see how this go. Thank you. Thank you. I'm not putting my head down. I You don't have to. >> Why you keep on moving my hands? You're hurting me. You're hurting me. Now, I'm cool. You don't have to You don't have to click me. What I do? No, she Look at what you doing to my hand. Hold it. I'm going to control your hand. You're not controlling my hand. That [ __ ] hurt. You're hurting me. You're hurting me. Ma'am, you were hurting me. You don't need to do this, ma'am. Okay. >> Nope. Nope. I told you you hurting me. You don't have to do it because you hurting me. Relax. Relax. >> All right, tell her to stop. >> Okay, okay. If you got me, you're the man. Take care of this, sergeant. Get her off of me. >> You can hear the units rolling code in the background. >> need her to hold me. >> She's not holding on you. She's got her arm up here. I don't need that. All right. Nope. Stay down. No. Nope. Okay, you want to get You want to get down here? No. OH, [ __ ] YOU BROKE MY LEG. Now You want to do that? >> This is where we're going to stay and we're going to wait. >> Okay. This is on you, buddy. >> Why did you do that? You could have broke my leg. >> We didn't though. You know why? Cuz you did it on your own. >> I hope y'all don't tase me cuz I'm sweating. >> you. We're going to just going to get you in the car now. Okay. Hold on. Hold on. I get up. All right. I get up cuz I'm not sure my leg going to go. My leg broke. My leg is broke. All right. I can't move my leg. My leg is broke. The right This is right when I can't move it. >> Feel them all you want, man. I can't We're going to sit you up on your body. Is that okay? >> Okay, I can't no. I need to keep it like this. LOOK. LOOK. LOOK AT THE KNEE. LOOK AT THE KNEECAP. WE'RE STAYING RIGHT THERE. Look at the kneecap. >> I got you. Stay right there. >> move it. >> Okay, okay, we got you an ambulance coming. We're going to keep you right here. You want to put your head down? That's fine. >> Hey, make sure you film me. She is. Don't worry. So, where are we? Broke my [ __ ] leg. You good if I let go of you? What the [ __ ] I'm going to do? I'm just making sure What the [ __ ] I'm going to do? You going to fall I don't want you to fall back. >> cuz you like this [ __ ] No, yep. I'm going to fall back with my hand. >> No, I want your hand. I want it there now. You want it there? >> Yeah. All right, I'll put Come on. Come on. Do what you was doing all that [ __ ] with three [ __ ] and I'm handcuffed. Do all that [ __ ] NOW CUZ THEY MUST be Who are you? You must be a lieutenant or something. No, another sergeant. Okay, another sergeant. He must have more sense than you cuz you acting right now. >> Dude, I was acting right before you were the one that was on that funny [ __ ] You You was on that funny [ __ ] I ain't doing [ __ ] >> and started trying to fight us. >> Yeah, I can do that. I fight you. Fight you. >> You can still hear another code run in the background and I'm guessing it's another officer coming to this. At first you sat down and tried to sit down on the ground. >> I was handling y'all with the goddamn cuffs on. >> tried to get up and play with us. How? My hands behind my back. >> Or it could be medical. >> We had you nice right there just waiting for us. >> Okay, I was standing up. I cuz she was just leaning on me. Yeah. And then you decided to act the fool. No, it's an officer. >> [ __ ] I got a taser. What the [ __ ] you got? Uh it's fine. Glad. Glad you do. Stop talking to you. Oh, you didn't like the word [ __ ] huh? I didn't hear you say that. Is anybody >> Hey, we Hey. I like I'm a [ __ ] I'm a [ __ ] Stop talking. Hey, your leg seems fine now. >> Hold on. Hold on. You act like I was about to punch You scary than a [ __ ] You shouldn't even be in this job. Dude. You you've been elevated the whole time. The whole reason why cuz IT'S YOUR EGO. YOUR EGO GOT ME ON THE GROUND. You [ __ ] up. >> So, this is the thing that I'd like to address, sergeant to sergeant. Would it be a better practice to maybe have other officers there if we're going to decide to take this person into custody and have a plan because he let them take him into custody. If this guy really wanted to start fighting, it would have been a really bad scene and they would have had to escalate the level of force very high to take him into custody. He let them put him in handcuffs and then he started acting super froggy in my opinion. Look at who you have on your team. You have the two female officers and they look like they were decent in what they were doing, but are they the most capable of taking this big 6'2" 250 lb guy into custody? Is there someone else on the squad that could potentially be better at that function in my opinion? If time is on your side, look for the best practice and tools to accomplish the function because the code runs are what we want to avoid. We had at least three or four officers that have to run code to that scene and I speak from personal experience having lost friends and colleagues rolling code. Have a more concise plan so you don't have to have the code runs. >> You shouldn't even be in this job. You [ __ ] up. You going TO KILL SOMEBODY. NAPERVILLE GOT ENOUGH GOING on with the race rate relations and you up here exciting it. You knew I was the officer. YOU KNEW I WAS THE OFFICER. YOU KNEW I WAS OFFICER. THIS IS A EGO TRIP FOR YOU. How did you be an officer? >> BECAUSE I TOLD HER. I asked her to to come talk to me. When I told her I was the officer, she should have de-escalated the whole situation. Because why would you be an officer cuz something to be need to be de-escalated? >> Because she don't need to worry about me shooting her. Okay. Cuz I'm a officer. I'm on her side. Now, you stupid, too. Get out of here. >> No, I'm just asking questions cuz you seem like you're just hunting packing for anything, buddy. Oh, man. I might as well get it all out of my chest. I'm arrested. All right. Can I ask you a question Stupid. Ain't no questions. You got me under arrest in my neighborhood. I was asking a question about your house. How would you want me to secure it? [ __ ] [ __ ] you. >> I I I don't appreciate that. >> No, I can't go in there. If you take the cuffs off and put them in front of me one of you come in there with me, I get my phone How do you want me to secure your house? my gun Not having it. If you take me to jail and you figure it out. >> Okay. Okay. Now, let me tell you something. I'm going to give you four warning on camera. I have a lawyer, okay? He has sued this city before, okay? Okay, fine. I'm I'm trying to help y'all out. Go ahead and take me to jail. Do whatever the [ __ ] you going to do. Stand up and get in the back of the car then. [ __ ] I can't stand up. YOU STUPID [ __ ] Get the [ __ ] away from me. Cuz you put me on THE GROUND, YOU DUMB [ __ ] WE'RE GOING to get up, all right? I CAN'T MOVE MY GODDAMN LEG, YOU STUPID [ __ ] AND IF SHE CAN'T TAKE THIS WHILE I'M ON THE GROUND, WHAT THE [ __ ] SHE A OFFICER FOR? WHAT THE [ __ ] IS SHE A OFFICER for if she can't take me calling her name? I worked in THE JAIL WITH NO GUN. YOU DO THAT. CUZ YOU CAN'T EVEN HANDLE YOURSELF ON THE [ __ ] STREET WITH A GUN. ALL THESE [ __ ] would have been inmates AND I COULD HAVE CONTROLLED THEM. BUT YOU GOT ALL THESE [ __ ] ON ONE ONE PERSON. The one that's bent. I can't unbend it. But I can't unbend it. It popped or something. And the [ __ ] did that [ __ ] wrong. Have you ever had any INJURIES PRIOR TO NO. ALL I WAS DOING IS STANDING UP. HOW THE [ __ ] YOU GOING TO FIGHT WHEN YOU STANDING UP WITH YOUR ARMS BEHIND YOUR BACK? I WASN'T I WAS NOT HERE. I'm here now, obviously. They want me to [ __ ] surrender on the car and [ __ ] I AIN'T DOING THAT [ __ ] NEVER. MY RIGHT KNEE, I can't unlock it. Yeah, hell yeah. Don't touch me, man. I don't trust you. Yeah, you cool. I can't move this [ __ ] leg. Okay. Man, I ain't been this mad in a long time. I need to go back to work. You just don't know, man. You don't know. Let them help. Let them help you and then you can talk to me, okay? And later, all right? I did a little research on the follow-up in this case and the charges that I saw that he was arrested for were aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated battery to a police officer, fleeing and eluding, resisting, and some traffic charges that were from the initial stop. I looked to see if he was actually employed with the Cook County Department of Corrections. There was someone who had that name, Christopher D. Cribbs, who was employed up until 2023. I couldn't see anything after that. But horrific behavior by someone who is alleged to be a corrections officer who's supposed to act in a professional manner. Now, granted, I know people deal with mental health crisis. If that's the case, you got to get help because acting in this behavior is only going to tarnish your badge, yourself, your name, and end up in jail.
