According to body cam footage, a Best Buy employee told deputies that one of the suspects allegedly tried to pay with a Door Dash credit card. Delivery apps give drivers prepaid cards so they can buy items customers have ordered. Thieves have exploited these cars by using them to purchase expensive electronics or gift cards for themselves instead. The worker said people had been doing this across multiple stores and claimed the company was already owed around $2 million. This is the same kind of exploit that has been used in other cases across the country where organized groups have stolen millions using delivery app cards. The stolen [music] electronics can then be resold for cash while gift cards can be sold, used to buy other goods, or in some cases converted into cryptocurrency. When the suspect reversed the Nissan Sentra to escape, he struck the deputy. The deputy sustained minor injuries and was reported to be okay. The driver abandoned the original Nissan in North Naples, then carjacked a gray Mazda CX-5 after entering an open garage of a home. >> I immediately run after him, but he was already in the car. I opened the door, tried to pull him out. I was able to grab the keys from his hand, but the car was already running. So >> later, the driver identified as 40-year-old Fritzen Paul, was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries before being booked into the Collier County Jail.
