That was real slick. >> You start eating the kid. >> I did not. your back. >> Where responsibility meets personal interest, [music] limits are challenged, making the children's quiet presence feel even more unsettling. >> Off. You know what I'm saying? So, every time you told me you >> This is how the mother defines the concept of discipline. On March 1st, 2023, police received a report concerning a 13-year-old boy who had left home with concerning signs. Officers quickly located the child and documented information related to a family related incident. >> Hey, Bo. We know each other. Hey, you remember me? Come have a talk with me. You're not in any trouble. Just sit down. Give you a place to sit besides on the ground. Tell me what happened. >> Look at me. I mean, yo, what happened to me time? >> Let me Where who you tonight? >> Both my parents. >> Your mom and your dad. Where did he at? >> My lip. I think I scraped my arm on that road and I got my leg, I think. >> Hey, can we use your ambulance real quick? >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Hey, let's let's get back to the ambulance real quick so I can look at you real good. I'm going to stay with you this entire time. Okay. But I I need to look at the marks and it's going to be much easier in the back of the ambulance than it is the car. >> No. >> No. What? >> They heal over time. >> Okay. It's not a question of whether they heal and it's not a question of whether you want to. Okay, bud. This is what's going to happen today. Okay. I'm going to be with you. We know each other. Right. Have I ever did anything mean to you? So, let's let's jump in back this amulet so I can look at you. Okay. If you drive down, you'll see everybody. Just have a seat real quick. >> Have a seat right there on that bench, baby. This is just for him. Okay. >> All right. This is just so I can see where did you today? >> Let me see. Open your mouth for me. Okay. >> My dad started me. >> Your dad started choking you. Look up for me. Then you said you think this happened >> on the road. >> On the road. >> I was trying to run away again. >> Is that why they started you? >> Mhm. >> How did you win the mouth? that it was a closed fist, an open fist. >> I think I think I >> You think he hit you? >> She >> Your mom kicked you in the face. >> Where'd they hit you on the leg? Can I see? >> The foot. >> Is that where that mark's from? >> Yeah. >> All right. You want to hang out right here for me for a few minutes? >> No. >> Where you want to hang out? You want to sit in the back of my patrol car? >> Outside. >> Okay. You can come out and have a seat right here. Um, you sure we can't check your vitals and all that stuff? Make sure you're >> I'm going to tell you right now, they're going to check you out whether you refuse or not. I'm here. This is my scene. Okay. You're a minor. They're going to check you out to make sure you're safe. Okay. All right. You know I'm here and we've talked many times. This is my partner, Deput Deputy Huitt. All right. Will you let them check you out real quick? >> I'm not asking. >> Like a question, though. >> But I'm not asking. >> All I want to do is check pressure and check your heart rate, kiddo. My mom's going to see all these lights and complain. >> I don't care about what she says. You know I don't care. Right. >> I don't care either. >> All right. Well, she's going to take your vitals. >> Okay. >> We good? I'm going to leave you, Deputy Hewitt. All right. What I want you to do is just hang out with her for a little bit and I'm going to go to your house. Okay. >> Okay. >> The child's statements and behavior led officers to visit the home. They were met by the father, not the mother. He appeared unaware of the full context and tried to reach his wife to better understand what had occurred. >> I didn't say it was you. Where's your mom and dad? >> My mom is almost getting something to eat and my daddy's in the house. >> Okay. >> Hold on. Let me go get my dad. >> How's it going? Deputy Har with the Bryant County Sheriff's Department. We've met. Come on out to my car real quick for me. Tell me what happened today. >> You want to tell him what happened? I I don't know. I I don't I wouldn't I was in the back and something started popping off out here. Tell >> Tell her I need her to come up here. I need to talk to her. She was here. I think she's in Pula. >> She needs to get here now. >> You hear that? >> What? >> You need to get here now. >> For what? >> Cuz um Officer Hart. >> Uh-huh. >> Uh he needs you here right now. >> I am in ranking. >> Well, you better be about an hour before I can be. >> Yeah, cuz really he's the one that started off. >> Well, that's and I get that. And I don't know what happened. I only have Ken's side right now. I need her side. >> I mean, I can be there in about an hour. >> I see. I'm going to ask you to get here as soon as you can. >> Okay. I'm not leaving until you get here. >> Okay. Now, >> all right. >> I love you, Mommy. >> I love you, baby. >> No, I don't know what happened. >> Neither do I. I was in I was in the back working working on [clears throat] something and then I heard my wife and Kenneth arguing back and forth. So, I walked around here to find out what was going on. And he's being totally disrespectful because we took his phone away. >> So, where's Kenneth at right now? >> He was walking down. >> Yeah, he is. >> So, nobody knows where Kenneth at right now. >> No. So, we have a child. Hey, do me a favor. Go in the house real quick for me. Hold on. I'm trying not to be disrespectful in front of your daughter. I >> I appreciate that. He ran away the other night. >> So, right now, how old is Kenneth? >> 13. >> How old is his mental capacity? Eight, nine, maybe 10, >> probably. >> 25. >> No, it's not. >> He He thinks that he's >> whether he thinks he's 25. I'm talking about his actual mental capacity is not 25. He's mentally he's not even 13. >> That's not true, sir. have autism. Not not >> and I understand that. But mentally, he might be there. He when I and I when I say mental capacity, I mean to him to interact with anybody, he's not 13. >> Absolutely not. >> So now he's 13 probably running around this town and nobody knows where he's at. >> And I'm I'm washing my hands with it. I don't know what else to do. I told him we'll help doctors what's going on. No one will help me. She wasing me in my neck. I didn't tell me if you were all right. >> He He He punched the front door about broke the glass. >> Okay. He's >> punching holes. >> So, why haven't we why haven't we called me today? >> Cuz I could have came and I would have dealt with it. I could have placed him. If it was that bad, I could have placed him. But now we have a 13-year-old with autism that's mentally handicapped run around Brian County and nobody knows where he's at. >> He's probably at my mom. >> No, he's not. >> Last I knew he was in there. He always >> He always stays in his room. >> Point of the story, sir. If you don't know where he is. >> I didn't say I didn't know where he was at. Obviously, I'm here because I know where he's at. >> At house involved in all their deals. >> He's not at any house. >> No, he's not over there. >> He's not over there either. >> And I will again like >> Well, again, all I need you to do is come here so I can get your side of the story. I'm not talking to you over the phone about this. >> Well, I'm on my way as quick as traffic right now. So, a bunch of big all of them. All the way across the board from Dallas in front of you all the way all the way down to to your That's why I left a couple of years ago. That's why I told you whenever you ask me why we run around with trash, not giving damn caring for a bunch of abusive pieces. I don't blame out. Nobody about that. He called it over and over and over and over and over and over again. And I'm the one that's in trouble for that. >> I never said you were in trouble. >> I But you know me. All I need is your side. And I'm not taking your side over a telephone. We're going to talk person to person. I've never been disrespectful to you and I'm not trying to be disrespectful. Now, >> I'm tired. >> Well, I'm going to make sure tonight that we all get some help. I will my fingers to the bone. >> I got you. Give me a couple minutes. We'll when we she gets here, we'll all talk and we'll figure this out. All right. Is there any weapons in the house? >> No. You mean like no fire? See, that's like kitchen knives and stuff like that. >> I don't mean that. >> I don't want to tell you no. >> Any in the house? >> No. We're We're not allowed to own any firearms anyway. >> Okay. Again, I'm just asking questions. >> That's fine. Shortly afterward, the mother returned and spoke about her child's challenging behavior [music] during adolescence. This stage of development often involves strong emotional reactions and calls for patience from parents. [music] When responses go beyond healthy limits, the gap between parents and children can grow wider. >> I was sitting in the car. I was on telephone talking to my friend and Kenneth was sitting on the porch and I told my buddy, I said, "Let me go. Let me uh I'm about to order some food from Taco Bell." I asked Kristen, "What do you want?" She told me. I said, "Okay." And I was just going to order it on the app and go pick it up. Kevin was sitting up on the porch. I said, "Baby, what do you want?" "My usual." I said, "You want a bean burrito?" "Yeah." "And I want my tablet." I said, "Well, I don't know why you're talking to me that way. And if you keep on, you going to eat cereal. You're not getting nothing from Taco Bell." He got up off the porch and he went to walk this way. I said, "Where you going?" "Wherever I want to." I said, "No, you're not. You about to take your back in there and clean your room." And he walked by. My door was open. And I was just sitting like in my seat smoking, popping on the phone. And he walked by and he slammed my door on my leg first. And I said, "Okay." And I told my friend, I said, "Landers, let me call you back in a minute. Let me handle this." So when I went to get out my car, he took off running that way. I said, "Well, I'm going to get him to the end of the road. Calm down. Come back." And I hollered up the road. You better not go no further than the end of run lane. Well, then I seen him go to turn left. Kirsten started walking behind them. I said, "Well, I'll wait to order food, whatever." I drove down there. Kirsten turned around and she was walking back this way. Well, as I was driving down there, he was walking up Arnold. I got right there, I don't know, p a little past that trailer right there. And I stopped my car right there in the middle of the street and I said, "Kenneth." He kept walking. So, I drove on behind him and then I parked like down toward the end of the road. I went to get out and he went to run this way and I said, "You better get you behind in my car now." And he was like, "Yo." Right in the middle of the street. And I said, "That's enough." And he he ran around my car and like back toward me. And I went to grab him like this. and he started running backwards and at that point he was like going backwards toward 204. So I started walking faster toward him and he fell and when he fell I don't know I I seen like a scrape on his arm and we were back there and I guess he his arm but he started going like bam bam bam on the ground and I reached down and I grabbed him by his shirt and yanked him up and then I grabbed him by his arm and I put it in the backseat of my car. drove down here. We got here and I said, "Now get your behind out and go in there. You're not getting no electronics back." And at this point, you're not getting them back at all. Never. You wait till you're 18 years old. Whoever you want to. And of course, I was and he hates me and all that. That's fine. Say whatever you need to say, but go your room. >> Well, instead of going to his room, he took off that way. >> I knew he was on the back porch. So, I yelled, "Kevin, he come down. He grabbed him." When he grabbed him, I was like, "Let me handle it." You know, and he he left. He went walking and Kenneth was steadily cussing me. Cussing me. Cussing me. But I know he'll get off. You know what I'm saying? So every time he told me to, I popped him in his mouth. That's why his lips busted. >> He said it probably three times and I backhanded him. Pie, stop calling me that and stop telling me I'm your mama. If you want to calm down and talk to me, that's fine, but you're not going to keep disrespecting me. He then started punching me in the side of my face and in my neck here and I grabbed him by his shirt and I put him on his behind on the ground right there. It was right at the steps. That's when Nikki come walking through the woods and when he got on the ground, he me in my leg a couple of times and I put my foot on him like this. I wasn't stomping him or nothing. I was holding him down like this and I told him, "You better calm down. I will just let me go." I told Kirsten he he went in my closet. We had his phone locked in my closet. He went in there and stole the phone the other morning when I took her to school and we ain't recovered it since. So I told Kirsten, "Get the phone." So she went and she found the phone and I busted the phone to nothing. Okay, it's my phone. I paid for it. Uh and I threw it in the backyard. It's still back there in the backyard to my knowledge. He then told me, "I'll calm down." I said, "Get your go to your room and go clean your room." And he said, "I will." I checked before I left. I went and placed the order for Taco Bell. Got clothes on cuz I only had on a night gown. And I checked before I left. He was in his room. I said, "You going to clean your room?" "Yeah." When I caught him, he as I was leaving, Kirsten was on her bike. She had done rode to him. And as I was leaving, I yelled out and told him, "Go to the house. Kiss us at the house." So, I don't know if he ended up sneaking out the back door or what before he made it back here, but I was on the phone with him whenever you pulled up here. To his knowledge, he was still in his room cleaning his room. I don't know what I was going down on down there. I just pulled up on it. He was sitting in the back of the ambulance. I didn't call because I don't ever know when y'all were on. Y'all are the only two that ever offered me any kind of assistance. Every other officer that's ever been here tells me there's nothing we can do. I don't know why you're wasting police resources. Find figure out something else. You two are the only two that would have ever offered any kind of any resolve. Even as far as sitting them down in your car and talking to them and he even I even called the police. He said, "I don't give a you." And just like I I had it up to here. >> We're going to preede from from this. >> Oh yeah. Considering the boy's emotional condition, it is understandable that his parents were under significant strain. Supporting a child with special needs requires not only responsibility, but also patience, understanding, and compassion. >> Well, I'm I'm not worried about what Monday happened. I I'm only worried about today. >> But it's all Yeah, it's evolved from Monday cuz I took his electronics on Monday being taken. It's bomb. I'm not listening to that stupid. is him showing up at my house with a total stranger at that dart. Thank the Lord Jesus that he got with a decent person who >> I was in the shower on Monday when he left >> and waited till he was in my house and made sure he was safe before they left getting ready to go to work. >> First thing I did was hug him and I said, "Kenneth, was that one of your neighbors? Do you know that person?" "No, but they were a good guy." And I was like, "Lucky for you." And I gave him a big hug and I said, "What's going on? Come on, let's go back here and talk. Just me and you." She called me and I didn't even know he had left on a Monday night. I was in the shower getting ready to go to work. Don't play with me. I'm getting ready to go to work. She said he is sitting on the foot of my bed. He just showed up here with a guy named Mickey. That's what he said his name was. His name >> she didn't meet the dude or nothing. >> That's what he said his name was. >> But that's what Kenneth told her his name was. And I didn't even know he had left Monday because I took his electronics at life. >> And I do know an older man that plays a guitar by the name of Mickey that used to live over off of Bluegill. I don't know where the man lives now. Blackfoot's a bus driver. He's an older gentleman and the man, whoever they were, they didn't give me time to thank him. Yeah. Chastise him for having the child in the car or nothing. I think they kind of felt like I don't want to get chewed out for being a good Samaritan here, you know. But thank God they were a decent person. But it was I'm I'm sticking away my mom with him since Monday. I'm >> I've given him the opportunity counseling is on medicine. Kenneth >> Oh, he's refusing to take it. I've watched him spit out in the trash and told him come back in here and take one. No. Kenneth is mildly autistic. >> He's in the same clothes that he was at her in at her house on Monday. He refuses to shower. He don't want to do nothing but eat. Throw his trash all over. It's all over my house. >> That's why he came home Monday night. I gave him the option to take a shower and stay at my house. Y'all know I mean I know you do that. I've got Tommy which is thank the Lord on medication now and being treated for mental illness and everything's good there. >> I heard he was doing good. >> He is doing pretty decent >> working. Not you know what I'm saying? Not No, he's doing He even told Kenneth, "You don't want to be homeless." You know, my little brother was strung out real bad and he lost his mind. And Kenneth said, "I'd rather be homeless than deal with my mom." But my little brother told him, "Go stay outside on the porch on the coldest night. And if you make it all night long, then I want you to wait until it's cold and raining and then you tell me if that's the life you'd rather live. Your mom is not bad to you." How many 13 year olds do you know that have they're on television, they're on tablet, they're on what? And I don't I don't have rules about how long he can be on it or none of that. Just do your He's He hasn't, to my knowledge, he hasn't logged into school in the last three days. He's absolutely refused. And he sat on YouTube on his Chromebook from the school all day long. But what am I supposed to do? Wait on an officer to show up to try to get me for truency? No. Places? He's got a mental health appointment tomorrow. And I will be requesting that he be put an impatient. She wanted to impatient him around Christmas, and I refused to let her do it because it was Christmas time. But I've had enough. He He keeps a knife in his bedroom. He's threatened to come and st me in the middle of the night. He's out of control. And I I know things are different than when we were kids. My mama could literally >> and bring me back to life and what should be done about it. >> The only other it ain't going to be that I can tell you all of you with that I don't even know if I mentioned to you the other day. He's got some girlfriend on this roadblocks. I think it's called >> is what it's called. I'm not sure, but it's some video chat >> and I deleted that off the tablet >> and she's in another state and he loves her and they're going to be together and they don't care what their parents say and if they have to. And that's why we don't know what's going on down here. But right, >> did he try to hop a train? Cuz that's what he threatened to do. He's going to get on a train. He's going to go and find her and they're going to live happily ever after as hobos. Too much >> game time. >> So you said you backhanded him. How did you backhand them? I just the ends of my fingers like that. >> So what you're telling me is the tip of your fingers >> busted his lip cuz tooth did >> it's busted pretty bad now. I've seen it. >> What he's done since he's left here. >> All right. I I don't look self-inflicted. >> But I popped him like that with the back of my tips of my fingers right there. Just like that in his mouth. >> It looked like something more than a with the tip of your fingers. >> I did popped him with the tip. >> They got fat lips anyway. They mama. >> No. No. There's a difference between full lips. There's there's difference between having a full lip and the side of your your lip being swoll from being >> that's my biggest issue right now. He admitted to falling and he said that's how he scraped his um his arm. He admitted to that. My biggest problem is his fat lip and he said he was my big problems right now. >> Yeah. >> Hoging him. >> He was holding him >> before he left. But you both told me just a few minutes ago you had You said you had no involvement when I first got here and that you were in the backyard. >> I didn't know how it started. >> No, it Yeah, it did. It started out here. He had no >> You told me you had no involvement that you were in the backyard. You didn't know what happened. >> I just told you when he first went back there, he grabbed him like this >> so that I could get to him and I told him, "Let him go. I'll handle it." And he left. >> Okay. >> He did not He was not >> I'm just asking question. I should have said that because whenever I was holding my foot on him, but I literally >> Where were you holding your foot on him? >> On the back porch. >> But what part of his >> Despite extensive explanations, adults remain accountable for their decisions under the law. And the mother was required to address the legal outcome of the situation. >> Okay. What I need you to do now, turn around, place your hands behind your back. You're under arrest for battery DVA or family events and children in the first degree. >> How am I under Sir, listen. >> Turn around. Don't nope. Turn around and place your hands behind your back. >> Please for two seconds. That's >> I'm going to ask you again, Miss Quarter. Place your hands behind you. >> Please, please, just hear me here. >> And again, >> I have gallbladder disease. Will you handcuff me in the front, please? That's all I'm asking. >> Okay, we can do that. You're still under arrest for family. >> He can me. He's 13 years old. >> And he's 108. Almost 18. >> And you just told me that you hit him so hard in his mouth. >> No, I did not. >> It busted his lip in his mouth. I told you. >> And then you told me he is to be placed. He's going to I'm calling Department of Children of Family and going to probably hopefully have him picked up and cursed and picked up tonight. >> I hope so. I hope so, sir. Because this is a never- ending battle. >> And I get that. But you can't your kids. You can't step on You can't call me. You cannot them so hard that they're bleeding from the mouth. You cannot step on your children. That is hurting him. I was trying. >> You cannot do those things. Let's have a seat. I TOLD YOU I PLACED THEM ON HIS BODY. Let's have a seat. >> And he laid down >> again. You You can't do that. >> Please hear me. >> All right. You know me, Miss Porter. Miss Porter. >> All right. >> And I do. >> Please don't. >> And you and you've called me several times. And I've came out here and helped you every time. Have I not? >> But tonight you went too far. >> I didn't know. >> You did me. I don't know. >> You cannot. And I agree. But that's where you call me. You cannot your children like that. He is 13. No, you didn't. >> I did. >> I seen his mouth. His whole swollen is busted. We're gonna have a seat. >> Please don't arrest me. >> You're going to jail tonight. >> All right. Move over. >> I I need you to hear me. >> And I understand. I have Miss Quarter. I >> need help. I need >> All right. You do need help. >> All right. And I've tried to give you a seat for me. >> I can't have a seat. >> I don't have a seat. Can [clears throat] get my secret. I don't have to hand on me. You got anything else on you? Yes, sir. >> You want You want to bring your phone with you? Hand me that. So, you have phone numbers? >> Yes. >> You got anything else in your bra? >> I don't. >> No ladders, nothing out, Miss Quarter. I don't listen to me, Miss Quarter. >> He shouldn't be allowed to. >> And I didn't say he can. I need your phone, please. >> That's right. I can't get to it. It's right there. You said you're going to or something. >> No, I No, I didn't tell her. No, I said I don't want you here. Don't >> I can I can I can handle that, but you can ask me to get rid of her instead of trying to start some little crap. >> You know what I mean? Your daughter don't need that, right? >> Yeah. >> So, let's not have this tonight. Correct. >> Correct. >> We're going to play nice. All right. Until your daughter's good, I'mma tell her to leave. >> She admits to backhanding him in the mouth multiple times. >> I don't have nothing on him. >> I just wanted you to be aware that he's not going to threaten. >> And I dealt with that. >> I haven't done anything to him. I'm here for my grandchildren. >> The mother was charged with pendant and battery first offense. Under Georgia law, she could face a combined sentence ranging from 2 to 11 years in prison. If you were in this situation, how would you respond to a child's disrespect [music] in a way that encourages healthy behavior while still ensuring the child grows up with understanding, stability, and proper support? There are moments when a single small decision or a brief lapse in judgment can trigger a series of outcomes no one ever expects. >> I am trying to figure out what to do with your kids and your friends don't want your kids. On August 27th, 2023, police received a call from restaurant staff regarding concerning behavior involving a woman accompanied by her two young children. There was no pursuit and no confrontation, only a routine welfare check. Upon arrival, officers identified an item of concern concealed on the mother. Later, the situation shifted from uncertainty to a matter requiring immediate attention. >> Hey, you all together? >> No. Do you know them? Does she know you? >> What's going on? No, we got a call. Someone said they saw something. >> Saw what? >> Do you have any on you? >> No. >> What's that right there in your bra? >> What? >> What is that right there in your bra? >> What do you mean? >> Don't grab it. >> What was that right there? I just saw. >> What are you talking about? >> Hands on your back. >> Don't persist. >> Okay. Listen to me. Okay. >> What's the other one? I I need to talk to them. >> Here's the problem. >> Let me talk to them, please. >> My other son. >> Let me just talk to them. >> Opportunity to talk to him. >> Okay. >> All right. So he's already trying to get >> Okay. >> Hey, you don't happen to have any restaurant video on how she supposed to show you guys without going to Richard. What are you trying to get footage of? any type of actions that you might have seen anything that would be visible on there that would look kind of weird just to see if there's anything weird looking on it or not. He wanted me to go in and look for video and they had video. It's just unfortunately the table this lady was sitting at is like right out of camera view. The only thing that really shows is her getting up and walking out with the kids and walking back in to go to the bathroom. Yo. So, you hope it's worth it. >> She has a son named Benjamin. >> Yeah. It's my dad's sister. >> Why do you keep calling me that? >> Because you are one instead of just telling me the truth and asking me for forgiveness. >> I'm not asking you for forgiveness. I don't like when people put their kids in here. >> I don't either. And neither does my dad or my auntie. Especially my kids or my homeboys. And you know when people innocent people they can never live with themselves. >> They really like they can't be at peace. You see it's raining cuz God always will show confirmation. God does not play about me, man. Do you hear me? God never plays about me. Do you even know what's going on with your family right now? Or do you just put all your energy into the police station? Could let me get a goddamn cigarette, bro. [ __ ] Mommy misses you. CO's waiting on me, man. Everybody waiting on me. My whole mother waiting on me. You better mother rethink whatever your [ __ ] plot was [music] cuz your whole life will be ruined even more. Whatever that's going through your mind make you even want to do it. You better rethink that. Make sure it's worth it. Money is a little place where we can you know I've been 16 car accidents and not a on me total cars. The love shack is a love place where we can get together. Love shack, baby. >> All right, let's go. [music] >> The mother was charged with possession of child and an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. Given these signs of instability, what do you believe is truly fair and appropriate? A strictly punitive response or a supportive approach focused on mental well-being and education. I'm on police department being on. >> Yes. Uh we have three different pass or three different types of passengers report a another passenger for child abuse. They came to us through and said that they wanted to report this passenger for suspected child. Physical abuse >> with a black eye. >> Okay. um as well as verbal abuse and exploited throughout the flight. None of the flight crew has been any of the physical abuse, but we have three different types of passengers who've given us their names and phone numbers who are willing to go on the record for what they pass. >> Got it. Okay. So, we'll talk to them. I'll talk to mom and figure out what's going on. verified. >> Yeah. They want to talk to you >> and we'll kind of go from there. >> And then how about the how about the >> outs? No, they started boarding as if you guys came up. So the uh flight attendants told them I was going to tell them to talk to us and we can do savings for you guys. >> Yeah, I know. But you have those boarding passes on you? >> Yeah. >> Hey, uh I'll send you a picture of them. My birthday's almost perfect. Thanks. >> You're good. >> Oh, trust we are we are these birthdays match. >> The babies is this one. The name. >> Is this the babies? >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, >> was there witnesses that were pointed out or >> supposed to come back? >> Okay. Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Come here, baby. >> I wish they would have flagged the witnesses. >> They got they got the witness. They they'll probably just call them. Yeah. So, we will not take I mean, I don't even know if we all need to be here then. >> No, you guys >> cuz they're all here, right? >> Yeah. Yeah. >> That way we can free up. I'll take >> So, she told me that she struck me on the back side. Nothing ever in the front. >> Casually brought up the black eye and she said that it was from a dog probably a week ago, but she found it. And then we put The witnesses should be coming back here too. So he can go ahead and get >> Yeah, we'll do that. >> And then that's it. We'll get them confirmed. Our portion will be pretty much done. We'll just do a report in our area as well. >> Yeah. >> I'm sure they're both USCs. I haven't seen them do picture. Some passenger typed up stuff. Make sure there's one of the uh CBP attachment reports seeing child abuse hitting, kicking, slapping, kicking the child. Please verify a child does have a seat right here and we're going to call you in a moment. >> Several witnesses took turns describing what they observed. While individual details varied, their accounts aligned on key points, allowing a consistent [music] and troubling picture of the situation to emerge. >> I'll take him. >> I'll take him and I'll take that. >> You want to come with me? Come with me. Uh, you just flew in on a flight coming in from where? >> From Porto Viarta. >> Okay. On the way here, how far into the flight did you notice what you saw? >> Um, I want to say like an hour into the flight. I'm really not too sure. I'm just estimating the time right there. Pretty soon into the flight. >> Okay. And so, this is in regards to a mother and her child that you observed. Perfect. Can you tell me what you observed? >> So, she was just dropping the fb bomb constantly. She was she laid down. Yeah. >> And when she was laying down, the kid wanted to get up and she would start >> with the feet. She started hitting the and then she got up. She started hitting the kids, dropping the [ __ ] constantly and then me, my parents and the people in front of us, we got tired of it and then the people in front of us actually said something and then that's when >> everything everything started. >> So did she have the whole aisle the row to herself? That's how she was laying down. >> Okay. So was the child like on the aisle side or the window side? >> That's how the child was on the window side. >> Okay. So she was lay Sounds like she was laying down trying to trying to sleep and then probably got frustrated cuz the child wouldn't sleep. >> Yeah. I started kicking the >> and so when you saw her child where where did she kick him? >> Um I want to say did not help her torso. >> Okay. And then how many since she's really little then it's like her face too. So >> So did the child start crying? >> She was crying a lot during the flight. A lot like mostly >> the whole flight. >> How many times do you think she >> approximately? Approximately maybe like five times. >> Okay. So that was the first time that she hit the child was when she kicked him >> I believe. So yeah. >> Okay. So after she kicked him, the child started crying. Okay. But you said she the child to you. So that was after the >> That was after and before. Yeah. After >> after and before. So explain to me how she child with >> just like a little slap >> was slaps. Anything with like a closed fist like slapping? >> I really don't know. >> All you know is she she the child with like her hands. >> I'm I'm guessing it's a slap. >> Okay. >> Because I don't imagine like a mother or someone cutting a close fist with a child. >> Absolutely. Yeah. So, and you couldn't tell where she the child? Okay. All All you can see is that she was striking the child. >> My My dad did say she had a black eye, too. >> The baby. >> Um I just turned around because over my music I was like able to hear a woman's voice saying, "Shut the up." So, like I turned my music off and turned around and she was yelling at her daughter to shut the up and she quiet the down. and she was like shoving her into her seat and I looked at the girl and noticed that like underneath her left eye was starting to swell up and like moving forcefully like with her leg toward the girl. Um, [clears throat] and I only saw that happen a couple of times and then the woman and the man that were sitting behind me who are the ones that were initially reported it, they started yelling at her and kind of telling her off and telling her that she should be ashamed of herself and things like that that they were going to report her. So when you said initially turned around, you saw >> Yeah. Like she was like shoving her daughter into the chair and I looked at the little girl and then when I saw her face there was kind of like some swelling and like some red in the corner of her left eye that was starting to pop up. >> Um did anytime you see her besides shouting? What do you mean by shoving the gun? >> Like kind of like grabbing her by the like throwing her into her seat like forcefully. >> From the second witness, >> uh we were uh in the midst of the flight and uh We've seen u this the same lady with the with the child there kind of throwing her around like a rag doll first and then uh she was crying a little bit upset. >> Seen her her a couple of times. >> Was that with a closed fist or an open? >> Uh it was actually looked like she kind of went like this open fist like a backhand. >> My uh wife works with uh children. She was very startled. There was a group in front of uh front of them Spanish speaking. They don't speak English. She tried to ask me what happened in the Spanish and they were very horrified as well too. Grew up right beside beside them. Uh they were looking at her the whole flight as well too. Uh she told the young child to shut up, sit down using all this vulgar language, very aggressive and uh one time she there was nobody who was sitting in between them. So she tried to lay down on the seat by putting her legs on top of uh the child and then she the child. >> She kicked the child. I would say in the body. It was in the body. >> Yeah. And uh just again just being very very aggressive. Child's screaming, crying and whatnot. And then uh what we noticed after is that she's got a bruise on her eye and uh looked like she got a couple bruises. >> Okay. >> On her face, too. And then throughout the duration of the flight, her eye actually started getting more and more, you know, you get you get punched or strike >> starts to swell up a little bit. >> Swell up. >> Would you mind pointing on your own face as to where you kind of approximately saw the strike? Uh well it was a rock >> right here. >> Yeah exactly where she's got a black eye and then uh >> you know at that point my wife actually started crying and uh you know she was really upset. Of course she works with children. Uh you know we we were all you know pretty uh disappointed and uh this is what we saw actually and she tried she pinned her down a couple of times as well too. She's crying. You shut the up and she's holding her down and like just the blatant disregard of having any eyes on which was the most troubling thing. I mean, if she's doing this in a in an airplane, I don't even want to know what she does. Uh >> um you know, >> given the sensitive nature of a case involving a child, the matter was referred to Child Protective Services, CPS, for appropriate review and followup. >> We're going to interview her. Uh Stephanie is the victim witness uh specialist for the FBI. I will call CPS if you guys could just do reports and download the body camera footage. You know, if she's traveling with anybody or Now they Delta showed up. They only gave us two boarding passes for the res. >> Yeah. >> You can leave it down. I'll let you know how to go. >> The woman became the focus of public attention. Her initial calm demeanor drew further notice as she spoke mainly about concerns related to potential restrictions on future air travel. >> So, real quick, our interview had nothing to do with jail processing with CBP, right? That's a separate matter. >> Okay. >> We're not here to talk about where you go, where you know what, where you go now. You know, coming back in none of that. >> We just focus on the incident that happened on the plane. >> We are we are um >> we just want to just chat. So that's that's really it. I want to this is an awkward room cuz like the seats are all bolted down over >> it's a weird thing that you know happens on plan. So, I just let you know that the reason that that we're here is um things that happen on airplanes are FBI jurisdiction. It's just our thing. So, it falls to us. So, we always come out and investigate and see what's going on. Um so, what we want to do is just talk about that. That being said, um you have rights. So, if So, I'm going to read you your rights here and your business like >> arrested. You are not arrested. You are not being arrested. Right. Right now, we would like to talk to you about what happened. But before we do that, we want to protect your right as an individual. We don't want to violate that. So we want to make sure you understand. >> So if I don't want to talk, does that >> Well, you don't have to. That door is unlocked. >> You still have to talk to CP after that. But right, >> does that make everything more complicated or anything? Like >> do I get to be put on a nofly list or something? >> I have no idea that. >> Okay. for you my right to the death. >> All right. >> So before we ask any questions, you must understand your rights. You have the right to remain silent. >> Anything you say can be used against you in court. And with that, if there's a question that we ask that you don't want to answer, you can just say, "No, I don't I don't want to answer them." That's totally fine. Okay? Does that make sense? So you don't you're not compelled to say anything, right? Um, so if if you're willing to talk with us, um, I'm going to read I'm going to have you read this statement out loud and then >> I don't want to read it out loud. >> Can I read it to you then? >> I don't want to talk. >> Okay. So, if you don't want to talk, then that's that's your right. So, that's totally fine. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Okay. I want to not talk. >> That's totally fine. So, next up, we're going to go kind of confer and then I think let's touch base with you in a minute and we'll kind of let you know what's going on on our end and we'll touch base with you again in a few minutes. Okay, >> let me I want to be clear on this. Are you invoke your rights and do not want to talk with us without attorney present? That's correct. I want to be clear, right? >> Yes, that's correct. Because it says that anything I say can be used. >> Sure. So you clearly understood understood that and then good to go. >> You exercise your right. We don't hold us against you. >> Sounds good. >> All right then. Then we >> we'll go chat and we'll be in touch in just a few minutes. Okay. >> Wait. Stay in here. >> Yeah. No follow. >> Only after recognizing the seriousness of the legal implications did the mother begin to express concern for her child. >> Your heads up. You are being audio recorded. You are being taken for for a federal charge. So if you care to stand up or hand back >> stand up. Thank you. All right. >> Sorry. >> Oh, that's unfortunate. >> Okay. >> Okay. So, you are under arrest, right? We are not asking any question. Okay. >> I am not asking question. None of these guys here can ask any question. We here to answer any question you might have. >> I want I mean a question I have. I can I make a phone call? >> Why don't you get booked at the jail and you'll get that phone call? >> Where is my daughter going? >> Your daughter is not going home with you. Will you not be with you tonight? CPS have been contacted. Will you contact CPS? CPF will take custody of your child for in the time being. >> Can I give anybody a phone number to >> Absolutely. Yes. >> Take custody of my child. >> Yes. Yeah. >> His name's Eric Shen. Can you take my jacket off? I'm like, please. I'm going to like hyperventilate right now. >> You need water? >> And what's his relationship to the job? >> He's my partner. So, >> I just look I'm just trying to help you out. >> Okay. What is his relationship to your kid? >> Is he father, uncle? Any any relation at all? Uncle. >> Yes. >> Okay. family relationship. >> Um, no. >> Look, we we're not going to call somebody >> with my dad will be >> Yeah. >> What about the kid that >> I'm the only parent of the child >> right now? Right now, your priority and our priority is the safety and the wellbeing of your kid. Okay? So, I am trying to help you out and try to help the kid out here. I understand I'm the only person on her person. >> Okay. Who would be messing the CPS need to turn over to a family member? Who would be the best person for that? >> My mom. >> Okay. What's your number? >> The mother was charged with child. Under Washington law, she could face up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine. When one person says, "This is my child." Another responds, "No, [music] it isn't." And the child remains silent. Who truly has the authority to decide? When he saw who I was, he stopped. Y'all know this is my baby. >> On September 8th, 2024, a boy was scheduled to be picked up from a park by a neighbor of his father. As the neighbor was preparing to help the boy into the car, a woman suddenly appeared, claimed the child was hers, and took him away. From that point forward, the situation quickly became escalated. This girl that took my grand and they called his mama. He had came and got him. >> No, you not. >> That's why he didn't say nothing. >> His mama's on the phone. >> All right. So, what happened is they were trying to >> They were trying to kidnap. THEY LEFT HIM AT THE PARK. >> SO, we were at the park. These two were at the park. >> All right. >> So, I went to go pick up a park. >> My kids, which is the kid in the car, >> was down there. I was going to bring him to dad's house because he's the neighbor cuz I'm not about me to leave him at the park by himself. >> Then this gave him >> stand over there. >> I gave him >> stand over there while we figure this out. Stop getting involved. Stop yelling at her. Let me do it. Go ahead. >> I was about to leave him at the park by himself. >> Right. >> Then this comes along and says that Shut up. I'm talking to the cops. MY FAMILY. THEY KNOW EVERYTHING. >> STOP talking for two seconds. >> This says that's my kid. And I'm like, "All right, I'm not about to be charged with the kidnapping. I don't know if it's theing mom or not." >> She takes off with him. Comes to find out that's not the mom. Uh her daughter is the mom. >> My daughter's a mom. >> That is >> Okay. So, you have your child. >> No, this is grandma. I'm his grandmother. >> And I know who she the >> the actual mom. >> Epilepsy. So, I give my my kids to my family. >> This is his mom right here on the phone. >> Okay. Right. >> Can she Can she come over here? She ain't got no car. Okay. It began in New Mexico where a 14-month-old child suddenly faced difficult circumstances at home as the mother's decisions brought significant consequences for the entire family. >> So, Angel lives with the grandma. >> Oh, no. >> And she failed to tell us that. >> Oh no. Angel suffering from schizophrenia. Oops. >> On April 28th, 2024, Santa Fe police got a call from a hospital about concerning behavior by a mother and her boyfriend involving a 14-month-old child. Officers quickly arrived to gather information from staff. Hello. >> Oh. >> So, what's what's the deal with 3314? >> Um, so >> where's the room first of all? >> Okay. They can't hear you. >> Okay. So, what's going on? So, we have baby. Baby's medically clear, but we're holding COPD because got to get them involved because mom came in. I had the patient like three nights ago was like very impaired. He's nodding off falling asleep. Um, so I put a tally set in there. So, there's a camera in there. Tonight, I guess she brought this guy. I don't know if this is dad or not. According to the notes, dad is incarcerated for his baby. So, I'm not sure if that was dad. Um, when we got here, they were both here. Um, but then she left at some point. Cali center called police arching and like looked at things to be in their position. But they have a bunch of like stuff like bags on the bed so he could clean that off so they could have a good visual. So while he was cleaning off the bags and she was asking like just keep it clean. I was like getting the baby and putting her to lay down and she had um foil under him and then like a little cap on the other. So I just like grabbed it with some in case she knew when I could get with me and then I showed her and then she called them. But they're very like they're just a lot. Not a lot. That's why I have to put the helic in there because baby's like they refuse to crib walk them in the crib so they can sleep on the bed and they refuse it and it's just not safe. >> So, do you think there's in there? >> Yeah. >> Did Did the baby have like any contact with him? >> Um, she was holding the foil. I don't know. >> Did the foil What did the foil look like? >> Which hand was the baby holding it in? >> On her left or >> I don't know. We just went in there. I don't know how long she had. Like I said, they had a bunch of bags on there and stuff. I don't know how long. >> Yep. There's a blue in there. Okay. Do you guys know what mom's name is? >> Huh? >> Bell. >> Marty Bell. >> Somebody >> Gonzalez. So, the baby's medically cleared. It's just the >> the um workers here in the pediatric unit. They're holding the baby just because of the fat that was found inside the room that the baby was holding. And the mom is I haven't talked to her yet, but she's impaired. So, and then the gentleman that she was with, she just left. He's impaired as well. The baby's old >> 14 months. >> 14 months. Okay. And what was the reason why the baby came in? >> Respiratory infection. >> Yes. >> Bronculitis. >> The investigation continued [music] as police entered the hospital and informed the mother about securing a small item of concern that had been discovered. >> Hello. [clears throat] >> How you doing? Also, Travis PD. Can you guys turn the lights on for us? How you doing, ma'am? What's your name? And do you have your driver's license with you? >> No, I do not. Why not? >> Oh, you remember me? >> I know you. How are you? >> Good. How are you? Remind me where I know you from. >> Walmart. >> It was >> Was it Walmart? >> Yes. You had remember? >> No. >> No. >> You You swallowed your on me. Remember? >> Mhm. >> I need your name and your date of birth. Okay. >> Don't conceal on me cuz I can find that case number from the >> Yeah, I know. >> Okay. Um, so they were that I called the courts today cuz you know I was surrendering >> and I let them know I was here with the baby. >> Okay. >> So, um, they told me to take in, um, like doctor's note or that I was here with the baby. >> Okay. >> So, what's your name? >> Who was the male that was in here with you? >> His name is Juan. >> Juan what? >> So, do you know the reason why I'm here? >> No. >> Do you want to guess why I'm here? >> Okay. I'm going to read your rights before I make this make a before I do something. Okay. Do you understand each of these rights I have explained to you? >> Having these rights in mind, do you wish to speak to law enforcement? >> Okay. We got a call. Okay. That your little one here >> Mhm. >> had on her left hand. That's >> what >> she had. >> When this >> today >> where >> here >> was that here? >> No. The male that you were with that's been here with her. Okay. >> That's her dad. >> That's her dad. He was here the whole time and there was in here. >> What the I'll tell you where he's at right now. You guys can go and [ __ ] arrest him. He's not supposed to have it and we're supposed to be getting clean and >> so that's why we're that's why I'm here. Okay. She She had it. >> Did they take it away? >> Yeah, I have it. >> Okay. How like how much was it or what? >> It's burnt. There was a pill in it. Huh? >> There was a pill in it. It's burnt. >> Wait, what do you mean like a pill in it? >> It's the aluminum foil was in a square. Okay. and it was burnt and there was a 30 stamped inside the aluminum foil like somebody >> and she had it >> she had it in her hand. >> So I'm that's why I'm here. >> She spoke about her personal struggles and the strain relationship with the child's father. >> We test her make sure it's not in her system. >> I mean that's going to be between the staff here. They're the ones that are that are the ones that are making sure that she's safe. And right now >> Oh my god. >> Okay. Do you mind if I see her real quick? Yeah, please. >> How are you, sweetie? >> You doing okay? >> I don't see. >> He's okay. Who's up? Say hi. >> I know your mama. >> Happy hun. [laughter] If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands. >> No. Clap your hand, mommy. >> Okay. So, that is that is her dad. >> Mhm. >> So, >> he he me and him had got into an argument when I got back. What? >> Huh? cuz I had to um while we're staying and like me and him had already been arguing, right? And like I actually just text him down. I told him we're done. Like we were leaving like this. Like he doesn't help me with the baby, nothing like that. Like I do everything by myself with the baby and he doesn't help me at all and it's kind of up. This is like the first night. Well, the second night he came and stayed, but like I had to force him to do it and he left just now. So I was like, "No, we're done. Like I can't do this with you going in and out of her life, dude. Like I don't want this." And I thought he was getting high. I knew he was getting high still. So I was like, I can't have this like CR is going over my house on Monday, dude. Like I I I can't lose my kids. I'm not going to lose my kids. Like I love them so much with all my heart. And heing got up and he left and he told me that Taz and Clarissa were outside. They have warrants too. And Taz and Cla were outside. And I was like, "Okay, well bye. Like go with him then. Go with them then. Like I'm sitting here with the baby." He's like, "Oh, well just tell them that you need to go take me to work." And then I was like, "No, I'm not going to tell them that, dude. Like I'm not going to go with you. I'm like not going to leave her here with like no dude like no. >> The conversation also revealed tensions between hospital staff and the mother over the baby's care and safety. >> When was the last time her diaper was changed? >> I just change her. There was a dirty diaper right there. Yeah, I just changed it. >> So, is there a reason why you didn't let the hospital staff attend her? >> When? >> Just whenever. Cuz they can take care of her. Like they can change her diaper. >> Oh, there's no reason they didn't let them change her. When was this? Like when were you guys talking about? So, we offered to put a sitter in here. like the sit on the blue scrubs and he didn't want her in here. >> Yeah. When I didn't want the sit in yours because that's the first time when he was going to stay in here and we were fighting. I just thought it was like kind of weird. Like not weird but like we were fighting. You know what I mean? I didn't I didn't want someone that I don't you know just sitting right here and everything like I was fine with them coming in and out and stuff and like >> but the thing is is you got to understand it's not for you guys. It's for your daughter. That's what the sitter was for >> at that time. I didn't think that he I really thought he was trying to work things out with me. Okay. That's why and we were talking and that night we were talking everything. >> Look, you got to understand this is a very big thing right here right now. >> No, I know it is. That's why >> this is involving your little one. >> Does she have it in her mouth? >> I don't know. We can pull the camera that's in here. >> I want to know. >> Let me see if it was in her mouth at any point in time. >> I want to know >> why was it on him? >> Well, like I said, I didn't think he had it. We're supposed to be getting I took methodone this morning and does that save money on it. >> Mhm. He might be actually coming back up if they let him. >> They're not going to let him. I didn't allow him to come. >> He tried. >> I mean, they're not going to let him up here. >> I'm so mad. I'm so sad. I'm so I'm so hurt. But he's saying I'm sorry. My my facing right now. Why? Because I forgot him. Yeah. >> Well, all I could think of was Well, I know. It's like I just >> You know, there's a camera in here, right? The entire time >> and that camera could show you guys and everything. I had nothing to do with this. I wasn't near it. I didn't know anything about it. If you guys watch that camera, you guys will see that. So, what about what about what what about that? I hear that the baby almost falling off of the bed. >> When was this? >> How many times has this have the staff told you guys that she's about to fall off the bed? >> They haven't told me. You guys haven't told me. >> We offered you the crib maybe to sleep on cuz you were passed out and you didn't want her to go in the crib. >> No, I said it was No, it's okay. She was fine with me. >> But you were passed out half of the time. >> What do you mean half of the time? It's night time. Of course, you mean my daughter was sleeping. >> She was sleeping with me. You >> She was awake >> in the morning. She was awake right here and you were asleep right here in the morning. >> Would have asked for the crib. She would have stayed in a crib, right? >> She would have cried the whole time. No, she wanted to be with me. But she hasn't almost fallen off and stuff. And I was tired the other night and I did sleep at night time, not during the day or anything. Not not enough or anything. There's like you said, there's a camera. Let's watch it. The child was admitted with pneumonia, but the process uncovered issues involving the mother, grandmother relationship, and the impact of substance used during and after pregnancy. >> And also, why why was she brought in today? I mean, on the 24th. >> Oh, on the on the what? >> 24th. >> She came in because um they told me it was bronchilitis. >> Why? How did she get bronchilitis? How did she get it? >> My son goes to daycare. Well, this is what I how she got it. My son goes to daycare and he's like a cough for like a whole month or two straight. I don't know how she got it. They didn't tell me how she got it, but that's my theory of it. But m and then also because um my what they were telling me that I had to send over my daughter to my grandma um power of attorney for like the first 6 months or the year or whatever. So I did that whenever she was born. My grandma was supposed I don't know what they say. My grandma saying something else. I asked my grandma about it. The first 6 months I guess after 4 months that she didn't go to get vaccinated or something like that they said. And I asked my grandma about it. My grandma said [ __ ] And she call mad. So [ __ ] and she's like, "Oh, they didn't get the the documents from Laafa Media and they need to get them from her and and this and that." But I the last time I remember my grandma taking her was probably when she was like 6 months old even. >> Do you want to know probably know why? >> Why? >> Well, your daughter was born with in her system. >> Mhm. >> Okay. >> I know >> you ODed in January 2024 with and you were brought here. >> Me? >> You remember that? >> No. >> Mhm. In >> 2024. beginning of the year in January 2024, you ODed on and >> when I arrested you for shoplifting that one day, >> remember you swallowed how many pills that night? >> Yeah, I know. But January 2024, I That wasn't me. >> That was the night. Remember that was the night I brought you in. That was I brought you in. >> Is that whenever you saying I overdosed? >> You were about to overdose. >> Okay. I thought you said I overdosed. >> Remember? >> Wait, what? Yeah, I remember. >> There's a pattern here. >> What do you mean? You're using narcotics and you're taking care of your daughter. There was found in here with your daughter. >> Not with me though on him and I'm trying to get clean. >> But the thing is is the time I saw you. Okay. >> Look, listen. >> There was stuff laid out on the bed. Makeup and everything. Right. >> I don't that's that's what was on the bed though. >> I wasn't in here. >> Okay. >> So, I don't know. >> The investigation grew tense as the mother's statements and actions appeared inconsistent. >> I'm trying to tell you is she was on the bed. Whoever her dad is was on the floor. >> She was on the bed with all that stuff. So, whose bag was that >> that had the makeup in it? Huh? >> Was that your bag or was that his bag? Cuz it had >> both of our stuff is in it. >> Not just my stuff. Both our stuff was both. >> And he was sitting both. So, both, right? >> Huh? >> So, both. >> Well, I don't want to get blamed for him, though. Like, that's >> He's going to have his time, too, though. It's not just you. It's I'm interviewing you, not him at the moment. That's why I'm asking about about the >> cuz the camera will show who left it or who had it. Like you guys should really look at it. >> So that's the thing is we're trying to figure out who brought the inside the hospital. >> Him. I'm telling you right now. Him. >> So if it's both your bag. >> No, he brought it in. It was probably in his pocket. Just because my bag was up here. He was sitting up here with the baby and he put it down. Just cuz my bag is up here with my stuff. When he put it down next to my stuff doesn't mean that it came out of my bag. There's a camera right there. Like please let's review it. Please, I know for a fact that there wasn't anything in that bag. You want to know how I know? Because at the bottom, they checked your bag before you come up. The security guard, we could go talk to them. He checked my bag so many times. My bags so many times and there was nothing in it. >> And you don't have nothing in here right now. No. >> The nurses couldn't do their job with your daughter for the last 3 4 days cuz you didn't allow them to change her diaper or have somebody sit in here with her. And you didn't let her have a crib. >> And they didn't ask if they could change it. I said I would do it. I'm her mom. Of course, I would do her change her own diaper. So, I didn't know it was against the law. I didn't know. >> It's not against the law. It's just they want to make sure your daughter's doing okay. >> Uh-huh. And they took off oxygen and she's fine now. We're just waiting for C. Yeah. Monday. Hi, Mommy. >> So, just give me a second and I'm going to go outside over here. Okay. >> You want to know where he's at? I could tell you guys where he's going right now. >> Okay. I'll get in here in a second. >> She also shared the efforts and challenges she faced in raising her child. >> Can you hand me a bottle so I can give her a new >> Which one? This one. >> Um, is that Yeah, those two ones right there. Right there. I'm sorry. And then the nipple. >> She hungry? >> Yeah. >> So, how long have you been clean? >> Clean like fully clean 3 days if I'm being honest. Two two three days. >> Your eyes are a little glossy. Is that from the the pink stuff? What is it called? >> Methodone. >> Yeah. >> Why is methadone? I don't know what the side effects are or whatever. >> Usually drowsiness. >> Damn. At a low dose right now. So, >> do you take suboxin? >> Huh? >> Do you take suboxin? >> I'm on a subex program. the subtoex. How long how often do you take those? >> Um I take them whenever um like now I'm clean. I took one yesterday and it made me feel so awful. So [ __ ] awful. >> Is there a reason why CFD is coming on Monday? >> Um because of Well, what they told me is because supposedly because of the whole the baby not going to her appointments thing. That's what they said. But say honest to God, I don't they don't tell me. >> So you're supposed to take your baby to appointments? You know, my grandma was supposed to cuz I signed over my um or when I had the my baby, you know how they make you sign like the I don't know if you know, but they make me sign up however turning for six to 6 months to a year and she's only a year and she's only 14 months. So that year, wasn't isn't she responsible to hear? >> So why do you have her now? How come you have her now? >> Why? Because my grandma's with my son right now. I don't have her. I'm I'm staying here with them. >> How come your How come your grandma's not here? because she's with my son and my grandma's really my grandma's old she has a cane she has she has cancer and stuff like that like I don't think like she's sick you she's a little bit overweight like >> and naturally the grandmother was also drawn into the investigation >> so how was just real quick cuz the CFD is going to want the grandma to come but I don't want the grandma to come and get her so >> the baby >> yeah so what what what was up with the grandma on Wednesday >> she just doesn't like intend to hurt her either either. >> I don't know if just cuz she's a lot older or >> How old is she? >> She's the break room. >> Yeah. So maybe like >> 70 80. Yeah. >> 70s. >> Yeah. >> So when I get CFD here, I'm going to have her come talk to you guys. >> Okay. >> Cuz you guys are the ones that saw her. >> The grandma. >> Yeah. And how she was. And then I'll be here watching. >> Okay. Go put you her in there and then we'll put the full socks on her just so she's not >> She doesn't want to go in the crib. took the hell. Oh, she really pull back the good. She'll go in. >> She's almost an inspir. >> So, I called told her that I didn't think grandma's a good fit. >> Yeah. >> So, she's going to call you going to come. >> Grandma is I guess here, but she's not coming up. So, yeah. >> She chooses not to. She's not allowed. >> I told her not to have her come up. >> Okay. >> So, I just want to tell him. >> Okay. >> Just so nobody comes up here. So when I do my thing with her, they don't interfere or something. >> So just so you guys know, >> at the same time, police reviewed the hospital's camera system to verify the mother's statements. >> When you find it, do you grab it or >> Yeah. >> Did you find it right there? >> Yeah. >> And where is it at? >> It's now in the trash can. >> Okay. >> She can come back. >> So where's it at? Like right there? >> Well, now they're both in the trash. She's already >> Oh, okay. security through it. >> Okay. >> You can like >> and see to see you heard you take the pipe out. So, did you have anything right there? >> She whatever it was was in the bag. >> Was in the bag. >> Oh, okay. It's right there. I saw it. Yeah. >> So you couldn't see the the circle. >> It wasn't the the second one was a circle. The first one like had like looked like a spoken up. Is that one right there? Is that the one where she had >> the second one? Yeah. That one was like >> Yeah, cuz I can see it right there on the edge of the purse. Yep. She grabs it. And what does she say when she grabbed it? >> The first one she saw lots of bangers from that. >> Okay. cycle. Oh, okay. I'll turn that way too. >> That That is her bag. >> Yep. >> Later, both the mother and grandmother were found to have withheld important information about the child's health and legal history. >> CFD is here. >> She's going to be coming up um >> looking for. >> Okay. She's going to come talk to you guys real quick. Okay. >> She's the one that found. Okay. >> What's going on now? >> Check this out. Angel has schizophrenia. She had the child abuse charges. There was a lot of history with CFB. >> Oh no. >> Yeah. It's >> like the grandma. >> So Angel the grandma. >> Oh no. >> And she failed to tell us that. >> Oh no. >> Angel suffering from schizophrenia. She refuses to take care. >> Oh my god. >> Um. >> Oh my god. >> Grandma lied and said that. >> It seems like a little bit of a lift. >> Yes. >> Oh my god. >> There's a lot. >> I mean it's what I've been dealing with, dude. They said that her older boy came in. I got vinators when they were switching off. So she brought older boy and she when grandma came um older boy had like a gall like a safe bump coming out of his head and then the nurse asked like well what happened to my left hand. >> So she she didn't go through the process and she tried to tell me that she didn't know the process but she only has guardianship over the other one. Oh nice. >> That's what was in her left hand. She never let the baby go on the crib. The crib's been in there the whole time. >> Okay. She would let the baby fall in her arms. I told her that she needed to put the baby in the crib. I was going to 15 her so she can come outside and talk to you. >> The legal process continued with a high chance the mother would be temporarily separated from her child. Miss CFD's here. They want to talk to you. Okay. You said your baby doesn't sleep in a crate. Look. And then the nurses are now that we're outside the nurses are going to come. They're going to come do like the routine checks on her. Okay. Make sure that her oxygen is pretty good that she's breathing above 90. Do you have any other relatives besides Rita and besides me with his angel? >> Your aunt or your sister? >> Yeah. >> Okay. And then Rita's what too? >> So what's going to happen is we're going to take custody then. Okay. >> My grandma. >> Um they did not pass. Okay. Is there anybody else? >> Um like >> I asked her and she doesn't. What does she have her own place? Does she >> Yeah, I hear her and boyfriend have their own place. >> I think they're going to try to keep her hair till one day. baby girl. >> Perfect. >> So, let me see if I can >> Yeah, cuz her vitals are they're not they're not too good. So, the thing is is with her, she didn't allow a sitter to help her change the >> Yeah. So, she And then this I told her she needs to go in the crib. And that's when she put in the crib. See, Miss Gonzalez, she still needs to be here till Monday. She's not ready to go home. Like I told you, I wasn't lying to you and I told you she needs to be she needs to stay here cuz what if she would have died at your at your grandma's house because of her breathing? I mean, she needs to stay here so they can monitor her. >> During the investigation, the mother's statements kept conflicting with the evidence. >> So, I got a quick question since I already read your mander rights. If I would to if they would give you a test right now, what is going to show on your test? >> Like I told you, um, 3 days ago, I don't know how long the penalty, what is it going to be? >> He said I 3 days ago is when I stopped. So, I don't know how long the system for. I don't really >> What else? If there was a test >> and what else? I saw the video where he took out two pipes from your purse. So, what else? >> Don't play me as a fool cuz I already saw the video. Yeah, >> I saw you throw it in the trash. >> The bangers? Yeah. Um, what else? Clear. >> Clear, right? Right. >> No. Um, the oil burners is for oil. >> You said clear. I know what clear is. >> Yeah. I don't do it. >> I've been on Ma'am, I've been on the street. I've been on the street long enough to know what clear is. Mhm. >> Okay. What is clear? Because I know what it is. And you just said it. >> You need to stop lying. >> I'm not trying to lie to you >> because there's a different issue that's going on right with your child. Your child should not be in here for more than 2 days at least. She's going to be in here for like 5 or 6 days. >> For what? >> She's not breathing well. So >> why? >> I don't know. This is your child. You should be taking care of her. >> Mhm. >> She shouldn't be this sick. >> She's fine. >> She's not fine. >> Why were they going to let her go? She wasn't fine. She's not fine. Why did they need you to >> Because Chile found in her left hand in your room that you and your and that other guy were in here with. >> I'm not saying that. I'm saying I'm saying why did they need you to tell them? You know what I mean? Why >> we This is our job, too. >> I'm glad you did tell them. I'm not saying anything like that. I'm saying why like >> we have to do what we have to do. >> The police took the mother into custody after noticing several concerning behaviors. >> Just come over here. Okay. >> Just I need you to turn around. You're going to be detained right now. Okay. Where are your scabs from? >> Burning. >> Why are you burning? >> Huh? >> Burns from what? >> Is there a charge to sit on? >> Actually, we're going to go to my unit. Yeah, we're we're done up here now. I have charges that are going to be going to you. Okay. >> What? >> I'll let you know once I get to my car cuz I haven't been in my car yet. >> You have anything that I need to know about? I'm going to do a good search. So, you want to tell me now? >> You don't have nothing? Why? I'll pick my >> Cuz I know where people hide things. >> Why were you lying? >> Huh? >> Why were you lying? >> Don't pick up my boob for them to see. >> You can see in the mirror, dude. That's what the It's not right. >> You know what else is not right? Having paraphernalia in the hospital while your daughter's sick. Also not right. >> Unbuckle me. No. >> I'm going to unbuckle your your me somewhere else. You're in a hospital. Nobody's right here. >> Stop moving. You're looking at me >> now. You need to stop moving. I'm going to put you on theinging floor. Stop making a scene and get up against the freaking wall. >> You're hurting me. >> We're not doing nothing. >> You need to relax. We're trying to search you because if there's anything else at the jail, I don't want to put it in the CC. Do you understand? >> Yeah. >> Let her do her job. >> Cuz you're hiding. You're hiding stuff. >> The arrest process was difficult as the mother kept avoiding the search, forcing officers to be more cautious in collecting evidence. >> She's hiding. It's all the way in there. >> Where is it? >> Know if she is. >> Okay. >> Stop. >> What are you trying to do, dude? >> She has something. >> You're going to get charged with possession if you don't give it to me right now. >> Where is it? Come here. >> Where is it? Where is it? >> Jill's going to find it. I'll tell him to do a strip search on you. >> Stop. Don't even [ __ ] >> I'm not showing you anything. >> Where is it? >> Stop. Don't do that. >> I just want to hold my flashlight, dude. >> No. Stop trying to look at my >> I'm looking at your I'm trying to get whatever you're hiding. I'm not looking there. Stop. You >> must be falling down her pants. Stop. You got to take off my pants. Stop. Stop moving. >> Stop. Let me go. You got to take off my pants. >> What do you want me to do? You want to just wait to do a strip search at the >> All I'm in the CC. >> Going to try and get rid of it somewhere. >> Okay. >> Stop. >> Stop moving before I keep on pull. I've already told you enough. >> Stop. You're trying to put your hand on my tongue. No, we're not. We're trying to find what's in your pants. >> No, >> cuz you have something. >> There's nothing. There's a thing in my pants. Stop it. It's [snorts] up to you. You want me to get it? We'll get it. >> No. >> What's in your pants?
