Under Florida law, she could face up to 2 years in prison, one year of probation, a $2,500 fine with bail estimated at around $3,000. Fortunately, the child only suffered a minor eye injury. But if such recklessness continues, the risk of death is inevitable. Hopefully, the mother will know when to stop to protect herself and guide her child safely through life. But Florida didn't stop there. Just a few months back in Marion, we saw another drama again involving a steering wheel and a child. >> I told you I was already fine and you want to be a stupid. >> Okay. When it ended, the handcuffs were secured. >> Deputy Osborne, he's going to read the instructions. >> Going to read the instructions for the next exercise. All right. Listen. Please stand with your feet together with your arms by your side just like this. Okay? If you need to, you can look at me for the reference. >> What? >> Feet together, hands at your side. Do not start the exercise until I tell you to do so. Do you understand so far? >> Yes. >> Okay. When I tell you to do so, I want you to raise one leg off the ground. Either leg, it's up to you which one you want to do. You to raise it 6 in off the ground. About the height of the soda. No. In front of you like this with your toes pointed forward. You see, >> it doesn't matter what you want. What do you want? >> Do you want to do these exercises or not? No, I'm not. Yes, I am. Okay, fine. Yes, I am. Yes, I am. Yes, I am. Yes, I am. I don't have a person. Yes, I am. You're lucky that the officer is very patient, too, cuz I told you from the beginning. Listen, if you don't tell me what your kids' names are, I'm going to have to make an announcement and the children are going to have to come up in front of other children because you can't give me their name. >> We're standing up. We're standing up. Let's go. Please look at me. Can I do the test? Can I do the test again? >> We already did. Please. We already did the test. >> No, no, no, no, no, no, no. >> Listen, I didn't want to listen, but I will listen now. >> The mother was arrested for DUI with a passenger under 18 in the vehicle. Under Florida law, she could face up to 9 months in prison, a license suspension of 180 days to one year, and a fine of up to $1,000. Bail typically ranges from $500 to $2,000. According to court records, she was held overnight and released on bond the following morning. This video not only warns of the dangers of drinking and driving, but also serves as a stern reminder of parental responsibility. No matter how painful it is, don't let your pain become a danger to your children and others. But Florida isn't the last chapter, and danger isn't only from the weed. Sometimes it comes from leaving a child in the cold rain on an Ohio highway. >> Yeah, I just saw my mom. She just hit pass by. On February 8th, 2025, Beaver Creek police received an emergency call about a 13-year-old boy walking alone on the highway in freezing rain. When they arrived, they found him shivering in the cold, still refusing to explain, saying, "I don't want my mom to get in trouble." How old are you? You're not in trouble. >> How old are you? >> Do your parents know you're out here? >> Yeah, I'm really close to home. >> That's the only reason we were called is cuz it's real dangerous. It's rainy and there's cars driving fast. Where's Where's home? Get my mom in trouble. >> What's that? >> You want to get my mom in trouble? >> I'm going to get your mom in trouble. I just want you to get home safely. Give me one second. I'm going to turn my rear lights off. Yeah, you're not in trouble. I just don't want you hit by a car. It's raining and my mom in trouble. >> Is there a reason your mom in trouble? She doing okay? You're in trouble. Your life. >> Okay. Now, >> okay. So, did you run away today or how'd you end up out here in the rain? It's cold. >> Yeah. I was uh meeting the second and she got close and so I asked okay and she really didn't want to. >> Okay. >> But I figured and she's been following me. She knows where I am. >> Is she out here looking for you? >> She knows the path I was taking but she like >> Okay. Um here. Let me get you out of the cold. I'll get you home. Okay. That's all I'm worried about. I want to get you home. Okay. It's almost below freezing. You're soaking wet. Are you cold? >> Not really. >> Not really. After a moment of silence, the boy spoke, beginning to tell the whole story. >> What's your mom's name? >> I don't remember Jim. >> I think I've met her. I think I've met her before. Do you stay with your grandparents sometimes? >> Yeah. >> I was actually out there with you that day. Do you Do you remember me talking to you? >> Okay. Yeah, I remember. I was out with you guys. You doing okay? >> We're doing okay. >> You live with your mom full time now or you still >> Yeah, we live with my mom full time now. We got it cleaned up and we were doing pretty good. >> Okay, that's good. You feeling all right? You're >> Yeah. >> So, again, so tell me again how you ended up here. So, I just wanted a break because I was yelling at her and saying, I didn't want to get her angry. Okay. And then I just asked if I could walk and then she didn't want me to, but um so then she's been like following me like she's parked there. She's asking make sure I'm okay and all that stuff. >> So, what where did you get out of the car? Do you remember like what business you were by or what street you were by? >> I don't know where it was. You go there, you turn left and there's a bypass. It was almost around there. >> Did she pass you or did she did she turn a different direction? She's been like going and stopping around me like she's making sure. Yeah. Like she's always like >> Do you know where she's at now? >> I don't I'm assuming she's like parked up right on this first road or at home. Normally she like does it and she like stops like at like a good spot that's like public and she stopped to make sure I'm okay. I'm pretty sure she felt like she really wanted me to get in and probably by um there she makes sure I >> Okay. So you guys got in a little argument or you were mad about what happened then you got out. >> I didn't want to cuz I was >> Did you ask to be get out of the car or >> Yeah. I said hurtful things and I didn't want to say more. I asked to step out and she was reluctant and didn't really want me to but she made sure I put on everything and then I had a and then she's been watching me stopping me making sure I'm okay and stuff like that. >> Shockingly this wasn't the first time police had encountered him. They had previously found him in a messy unsanitary home. Were you out with me on that call where we almost busted through the door because the flies were in the windows and turned out she actually lived there. Were you out with me on that? It was Sean. So, we opened a CPS case on this mom because for the horrible conditions cuz the house was there was like dead animals lying around and we thought she somebody was dead in there. It was so bad. So, this is her kid. So, I recognized him. They got in some argument. She dumped him out of the car at the bike path on Graange Hall and drove home. Let him to walk. He's soaking wet. This is the second time we've been called for. No parent in their right mind would. He realized he forgot his cell phone in the car and she drove by and held it up to show him that she had it and kept driving left. He might be on the spectrum or have some autism I think is is in the history. He seems okay. He doesn't seem injured in any way, but he's walking along 835, you know, a high-speed road with no sidewalk in this weather and he's soaking wet. I don't think any parent in their right mind would dump their kid on a busy road like this and have have them walk miles home in the rain and the cold. >> At the same time, the mother quietly went to find her child. still doing okay. >> Yeah, I just saw my mom. She just hit pass by. >> Did she just pass by? >> Yeah, I was going to get out, but I didn't. >> Okay. She went that way. >> She was coming this way, coming back to us. >> She was looking for you. >> Yeah, I think she looked at us and I think she might know it's me, but I'm not sure. >> She might be turning back around. >> Yeah, she might be. I don't know. >> And explained, but the truth emerged. This wasn't the first time she had left her child alone on the highway. >> Yep. Yep, we do. I don't know if you remember. I was I was out with you guys before at your house on straight arrow. Yeah, >> we found him running running around the world, right? Yeah. >> Okay. Um, go ahead. I got all his flag. Go ahead and explain to me why >> he was in a really angry mood about the competition that he had been at. He was cursing at me. He was trying to jump out of the car. >> I was getting concerned about him and so he pulled over. He got out of the car and he's been walking home and I've come up on him multiple times. He's like, "Come on, get in the car." He won't. >> Has this happened before? >> Yes. >> So, I've been out here with him for probably 20 minutes. Where? Or where have you been during that time? >> I was trying to find him. I didn't know. >> So, how did he end up out of your sight? >> Because he was walking this way and turn around and come on back. I wasn't sure. >> You could have followed him slowly. Okay. And why not? >> I was trying to give him some space to cool down. >> Okay. So, I know last time I was out with you guys, he was staying with my grandparents part time. Has he been with you full time for a while? >> Yes. And he's really been doing well. This is the first recent up in the country where he claims he's been googling things like that. So, uh that's what >> today is googling ways to commit suicide. >> Well, today he didn't talk about that. >> Okay. So, he's he's 13. He says he's better off. You know how it sounds. You're leaving him in 30° weather in the rain to walk miles home. He's out of your sight for 20 plus minutes. Yes, sir. >> He's a the juvenile on the on the younger side on a busy highway with no sidewalk. >> Yes, sir. I thought he had you let him out of your sight. >> He said that while he's been walking this, he's seen you pass by a few times and not stopped. >> I have stopped every single >> But before you said you didn't know he was here, you thought he was on grand. >> I haven't stopped him on this road. >> I'm going to make a call to our supervisor. Okay. I'm not I'm not going to release them to you yet. What I'm going to have you do is go sit in your car. We're going to pull over there and get off the road. Just kind of decide how we want to handle it, right? Because it's it's kind of an unusual situation. I know there's there's history you have with CPS, right? Is there still an open case? Enclosed. This road has no sidewalk. What's the reason you let him out of your vehicle? Why did you drive away, to be honest, to make a little bit of an impact on him that >> make him feel like you might leave him? Not that I would I would never leave him, but he's telling me like better off without me. And so I was like, "Well, let me let him out of his sight for a little bit." And just let that kind of reality hit. >> Okay. >> If that makes sense. Not that I was never going to come back for just to kind of make a little bit nothing. >> Okay. >> So the police immediately made her understand the serious consequences of her actions. So maybe a bit of poor judgment because you know we got the the no sidewalks and the weather, right? It's inherently dangerous walking along this road. I'm not even sure if it's legal for an adult to run along this road. It's considered a highway. >> Yeah, it was considered a highway. And also the um he could be picked up by a stranger. He was out of your sight for an extended period of time. >> He could have been gone and you never would have known. He's a nice kid, right? I've talked to him. He's always smiling. He's always friendly. Did you consider the possibility of a stranger rolling up? Hey, let me get you help. And then you never see him again. But I didn't know that you caught him at first and so I was still looking for him. I definitely thought about that. I was scared looking for him, but I thought he was okay. And then when I couldn't find him, it started to get really really >> Okay, go ahead. Have a seat in your car. We're going to get off the road. We'll pull into the entrance over there. >> Just stay there. We'll pull over there and get off the road just we're not walking traffic yet. Although it was a minor incident, the mother was arrested and held on a childment charge misdemeanor. Under Ohio law, she could face up to 6 months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000. Bail ranges from $1,000 to $10,000. According to court records, she was held for two nights. CPS reopened the investigation and the case is still ongoing. I'm going to release him back to you in a second. Okay. I'm going to talk to him. I want him to hear anything I'm saying. Okay. I called a supervisor and discussed the situation. Okay. What we're going to do is issue a criminal summon for tried to with the mandatory court did. Okay? You're not going to jail. It's a misdemeanor, but based on so kind of what I've discussed with you a little bit, the facts of the situation, his his age, the location, and the roadways involved, the temperature, the weather, um the fact that he was out of view for an extended period of time, that we had to be called out by a stranger, right, to find him. All of those things are taken into account, right? Um so the citation be issued. It's essentially it's called trans for a lapse of due care that you're responsible for because he's in your custody. Okay. Any questions about that? Again, it's Yeah. Yeah. I'm going send him over to you a second. I just wanted to again I told him, you know, he's he's worried about about you, right? You're his mom. So, um tell him you're not going to jail. Nobody's in trouble. So, I told him cuz this is between you and us and the court. He doesn't have to know. There's no reason for that. Okay. It is going to open up another another CPS case. Okay. So, is that is the the previous one is that the first one? >> Yes, sir. Okay. So, this would be the second one. Yes. >> So, here's what I just called Brad cuz all this stuff's new to me. All right. He said if we can find someone to watch watch the kid um that we need to actually lock her up. So, we actually need to just write her a ticket, lock her up. It'll be next day, next available court date, 11:00 a.m. What we can do is we could follow her back to the house. That way, we can drop her car away. We don't have to tow it. Release the child back to the grandpa and then and then put her. Okay. >> You can probably go sit in grandpa's car now if you want. >> Grandpa know he's going to take. While tension between parents and children can happen, leaving a child alone in a dangerous situation is neither a proper solution nor a correct way to teach as it can cause both physical and emotional harm. These stories may be over, but the pain and consequences remain. We've seen how just one moment of irresponsibility, one wrong choice by an adult can put a child in. Parenting is not only about love, but also about the alertness and courage to protect and guide a child through life. Don't let indifference become a tragedy for the innocent.
