Or but if you then then then then step out of the car. For what? So you can tow my car? If you don't get out of the car, I will pull you out of the car. And you will go to jail for obstruction. >> If you decide to commit a crime, I've already told you detour around Arkansas. If you decide to keep going after the officer turns on their lights, you're going to have some challenges. And if you decide to make up a story that doesn't really make sense, you're going to get caught and your vehicle's going to get towed. And if you're going to do something like that, definitely don't do it with Trooper Bird cuz Trooper Bird don't play that. This is one of those. Before I begin today's video, I'd like to address something. You've noticed, and so have I, that I have referred to Arkansas as Arizona in several of my videos. And what we do here is we don't make excuses on the Sergeant Curtis channel, we make it right. So right now, for this video, we're going to make it right with Arkansas. Driving a vehicle with no plates on it is almost always going to get an officer's attention, on duty and off duty. Even to this day, if I see a vehicle with no plate on it, it draws my attention. So I just want you to notice that on the bottom here, the mic and the lights are illuminated in green. If you look in the back of the vehicle, you see the reflection, his lights are on. So let's see how long it takes the person to stop. This person has guaranteed themselves at least a ticket. By keep going like that, you're making the officer think that you're doing something really seriously wrong. We're up in the four. Put the car in park. Put your car in park. This is really interesting. It's a police thing. He sees the brake lights are on. So the car is not in park. People will do that so when we get out, then they take off. He's very, very sharp. And he did this from the PA system, so it was clear and other people in the parking lot can hear that he's giving this command. Really good stuff. And operating the PA system, it takes some dexterity to make sure that you don't key the radio mic as opposed to the PA. Sometimes it's usually that you use the same mic, but sometimes officers unintentionally talk over the radio what they want to say on the PA. Hi, good morning. Like you literally just pulled me over when I came into the hospital. >> If you will stop being so >> all the way here. >> Okay, ma'am. I'm Trooper Byrd, State Police. Reason I stopped you is cuz you're driving around with no license plate on the vehicle, okay? I give full number >> I walked up here and you got Snapchat open and you video taking while you were driving. >> following me all the way here. >> Okay, but you're not supposed to be on your phone while you're driving. I got on my phone so I can record you cuz you when I pulled in the Baptist parking lot, you really pulled me over. You could have pulled me over all the way back there like >> I did pull you over where it was safe, ma'am. There was guardrails and stuff where we were in those curves. Those weren't safe. Do you have your driver's license on you? No, I have an ID. Okay, let me see your ID, please. 846 on the Where are you running on 28 by VIN, please. Hi, hello. >> have any paperwork in the vehicle, ma'am, showing the I got a copy. Okay, I understand that. Do you have any paperwork in the vehicle showing the the VIN? It's five X-ray X-ray George Tom four Lincoln 31. The car doesn't have a 28, so I'm not sure if it's going to be out of Arkansas, but I would assume so. How do you say your name, ma'am? Natasha. Natasha? Okay, thank you. Where's your appointment at? Is it right here this building? No, it's on 412 Highway. It's on 412 Highway. Why don't you come over here and just look? Um I took it to get it to avoid highways cuz I'm going to get my gas ticket. To avoid highways? There's service road all the way here. There's no service road. Along here is State 430. So that doesn't make sense. Okay. So there's a couple of things and I know the wind is it difficult to hear, but I can kind of hear what he's saying and maybe if you have good volume on yours you can hear as well. She said that she was going to one location and that she used a service road for a certain [music] reason. He said there's no service road because he knows his area. This is really good stuff. And you notice that she's on the phone, she has an attitude right from the beginning and he's shutting her down with the professionalism and kindness. I like everything I'm seeing. One thing that I will mention is that when you do the VIN check, because she has no plate on the car, he's got to look at the VIN and the VIN is right there, right where the driver is on the at the bottom part of the windshield. see where her hands are, but the best practice is to have them put their hands on the steering wheel. I'm sure he can see her hands, but I'm just sharing that because you can't see and I know a lot of you like to understand what is normally done during a VIN check. And the VIN is the vehicle identification number. They're unique to each vehicle. The last six digits, I believe, are the ones that are specifically unique to that vehicle and the first digits will be Chevy or Ford or GM, whatever, but the last six are usually what tell exactly that vehicle. How long ago did you buy the car, ma'am? Do what? In May? Okay. Is there a reason you haven't gotten it registered yet since we when we bought it? Back in May? Do what? You got 1K? 1K? What's 1K? What do you mean? The tag Are you talking about a thousand dollars? Well, here's this back. Why do you not have a valid driver's license? Okay, so why are we driving So at that point, why are we driving then? You have court dates that are coming up? Let me see that yellow piece of paper. Okay. What? Okay, that's not what I thought it was. Okay. Here's this back. So why are we still driving then if we don't have a valid driver's license? Okay. Okay. I understand that. Okay. Okay. Hang tight for me. So if you notice, she's like that now. She's answering all his questions. He didn't take it personal. He did not let emotion get involved in this. This is true professional policing. Love it. Hey, 46 on North. Will you put the VIN number I ran in the cabinet, please? So, I can copy and paste it. And we started 10-11 for suspended. They can get to me from Canas and Wild Drive. Hey, ma'am. Oh, [ __ ] Sorry. Uh do you have valid insurance you can show me cuz the car is showing to have any confirmed insurance? Oh, no. I don't. My mom took me off. So, I don't Your mom took you off of her insurance? Okay. Do you have somebody that you can call that would be able to come pick you up? That has a That has a valid driver's I understand that, ma'am, but you don't have a valid driver's license and I can't let you drive away from here. So, I need somebody to come pick you up that has a valid driver's license. You guys can pull me over for my tags. I'm going Ma'am, you're not going home. You just told me you're going to an appointment. >> just saying that I'm going home. I'm going home. home, ma'am, whether you're going home or going to an appointment, you have a suspended your your driver's license suspended and I can't let you drive off from here. No, ma'am, I'm not done with this traffic stop here. I still have it back there with me. This is the same thing I get pulled over for the same What is that one from? Can I Can I see that one? Do you still have court on all of these? No? That was just like I keep all of my traffic tickets Oh, these are the ones that you've had in the past. Yeah, I did. So, these aren't active anymore. These are ones that have already been taken care of. Okay. So, that's St. Francis County. That's a Benton one. So, you got a ticket in Benton for the tags back in November. Uh another one in December. Uh those are both 2023. You had another one for the tags out of is from state police December of 2023. That one's another ticket. February for driving without tags, expired tags, and driving on suspended from another trooper. Here, take these back and have Do me a favor and call somebody with a valid license to come pick you up, okay? All right, I >> anybody. I'm sorry. Okay, well Well, here in just a bit then, once we once we get once I get done with this and everything, if I need to Do what? I don't have anybody. I don't have anybody. Okay, I can take you somewhere and drop you off here in just a bit, but I can't let you drive off from here, okay? All right. So, I can't go home with my car then? Do what? I can take you home if that's what you where you would like to go. If that's If that's where you'd like to go, I I I'll I'll be more than willing I will be more than willing to take you home, but but I cannot let you drive off from here. Your car's going to be towed because you're driving on a suspended license. Okay? >> my car still won't get towed? Yes, ma'am. Oh, I'm not leaving my car with you. Yes, ma'am. It won't be left here. It'll It'll be with the tow truck. She has a whole lot of citations that the trooper just read off that she's gotten for several different things. She's a suspended license, according to what the trooper said. The car is not registered. She does not have proof of insurance. That is the trifecta, the worst possible thing you could be doing when you're on a roadway. And she's gotten multiple citations before. Doesn't seem like she's learned her lesson. Here's the challenge. This is called the citation hole. This is really challenging, especially if a person has a job. They have to get to work. However, they have a citation because they didn't pay their insurance, and they have to pay the citation or they have to pay their insurance. If they don't pay their insurance, the insurance lapses, they can't drive. Then it turns into their license getting suspended, and then they can't pay their registration, and then their registration gets expired, and it's this vicious, horrific cycle. That's why you don't get caught in it. You do it right from the beginning. Don't skip any steps, cuz the time that you think you're not going to get pulled over, you're going to get pulled over. I've seen this happen so many times. Do not fall into the traffic citation hole. This lady's in it and it's hard to get out. >> Well, I can take you over there here in just a bit. I can take you there if they're willing to let you be there like 9:30. I'm going to No, ma'am. So, they're going to tow your car, but I'm going to I can drop you off at your interview so you so you don't miss that. That's important. I'd rather I drop you off at your interview rather than take you home. >> He's offering to give her a ride, shuttle her to her interview because she has a job interview. Definitely above and beyond, especially since she has all of these house violations and the current violations that we see. Super professional. >> Okay, so I want to drop you off at your interview and then after your interview you can call a friend or call somebody to come pick you up after the interview, okay? Does that make sense? Yeah, but I don't I don't I'm not I don't want to get my car towed. You have to go back there. Okay, I understand that, but either way either way it's being towed cuz you're not supposed to be driving with a suspended license, okay? >> to have somebody come get me. It's okay. Okay, well have somebody come pick you up, but the car's not going with it. It's going to be towed, okay? >> Why is it? The car's going to be towed because you're driving on a suspended license. >> Wait, when the when the trooper pulled me over he said that I can have somebody come pick me up and drive my car. That's what they do. Okay, oh And then he was like if >> That that's an That's an That's an option, but you just told me multiple times that you don't have somebody that can come pick you up. So, I've got a tow truck coming to pick you up. >> you just said you said if I leave my car it's going to get towed. So, it's going >> you're not leaving it here. I'm going to tow your car. >> have somebody come pick this car up then. No, you can have someone come pick you up, but the car's going to the car's going to go on a tow truck. I'm not going to argue with you. >> my car going on a tow truck? This is the law. >> Because you're driving on a suspended license, ma'am. If I'm not the one going to be driving it then it's not going to be towed. I understand it, but you're driving at the moment of of me pulling you over, okay? So, here's the challenge. It's called giving the break challenge cuz she's dealt with multiple troopers and officers and we have discretion. And sometimes they'll say we won't tow your car, we'll issue a cite. Some will say I'll give you a warning. But, what happens is people lean into the nicest, most lenient thing they receive and they expect to get that from everyone and it creates a challenge for the [music] next officer. As an officer you want to give grace to people and be lenient occasionally, but then the next trooper or officer has to put up with this. So, the giving the break challenge is something that every officer has to deal with. That's why you'll get some officers that are just straight by the book. You're going to get, you know, lit up for everything that I can light you up for because don't expect me to expect you to have the next officer do that. And this is what we're dealing with right now. This girl apparently feels like she's special. >> I'm not driving. I'm going to have like I'm going to have my car. Okay. I don't like Hey, can you step back here and talk to me real quick if you don't mind this? I'd like you to take note of this vehicle that's pulling in this pickup truck that's pulling into a parking place right here. Uh is that somebody on the phone that Yes, they're on their way. We're talking. We're We're literally talking. Now, that person that pulled in likely sees that the officer is dealing with the female. Many times people are just pulling in and they'll start recording. It's interesting to see the different perspectives that people will have of an exchange. I always look at that kind of stuff, especially because some of these end up on social media or in the news. >> So, where Hey, can I talk May I talk to her? She's on hold, but that's my sister. Okay, so who's Who's coming to pick you >> friend. She live around the corner, but that's my sister. Your best friend and your sister are both going to come over? No, I'm on the phone with my sister so I can just in case like I'm just I'm a little anxious or whatever with my anxiety or whatever. So, I'm just talking to her about what I was going to do. Okay. My best friend, she going to be coming with me. Yeah, they coming over right now. So, like 5 minutes. Okay, they're going to be able to pick you up. They going to drive my car and take what My best Yeah, she going to drive her car and we're just going to go to her My best friend house to smoke, so You're going to go where? To my best friend house to smoke. You're not going to They just rescheduled They just rescheduled my interview. They called me on the phone to talk to me too. Okay. Okay. just going to grab the keys to the car. For what? Because I told you that the car is going to be towed. My car is not going to get towed. They're literally going to come No, you're not. Sorry. I'm sorry. >> Ma'am, stop. Don't do this. Don't do this. >> No, why the [ __ ] are you trying to tow No, you're not towing my car. Really want to take a quick note before this progresses is if you notice the trooper had to take his cover off in his gun hand in order to get the keys and do other things. This is I think the cover looks great. I love the campaign cover. As I said many times, I'm a Marine, but from a tactical perspective, it can create some challenges. I just like to take note as this progresses. >> No, you're not. I just literally said that my cousin my boyfriend is coming to get me. I have told you that the car is going to be >> literally took in my key. Ma'am. Bro, I told you that the car 46 with a rock. Can I get another unit? The driver has locked herself in the vehicle. No, you're really playing me. No. Ma'am, we're not >> I'm literally having somebody pick me up. That's all I have. Listen. This is all I have. No, this is all I have to get to my destination. Listen to me. >> Bro, why are they literally trying to tow my car? Sorry. Do not tow my car. No. Ma'am. What? Stop Do not talk to me like that. Do not I don't care. Walk over here. No, what is back here and talk No, what is this all I have? No, what? Listen to me. >> No, what? Y'all trying to play me. No. >> Okay, listen to me. >> I got pulled over for this before. Okay, listen to me. No, give me You literally got in my car. You played me. >> explain I talked to you, please? Bro, he played me. I did He [ __ ] played me. He is No, I did not play you. I told you He told me to get out of the car. He told me >> so I could get the keys. You're right. >> No, you could have told me you had your keys. >> Ma'am, I need you Listen. >> trying to tow my car and you know somebody is coming to >> I just didn't know if somebody was close. She's got the door open again now though. So, he had other units rolling. He slowed them down cuz they were likely rolling code cuz he said that she was locked herself inside the car and they're going to roll code. It's good that he slowed them down. But, I also find it really interesting that this woman is saying that she was going to a job, but then she wasn't going to a job. She hasn't paid in her tickets. It looks like her hair was recently done. No tickets paid, story changes, and now she's blaming the trooper for her own doing. >> Listen to me. You've got to get out of the car or I'm going to pull you out of the car. >> No! I'm really happy. >> Ma'am, all right, listen. I don't want to do it. Listen to me. No, this is all I have. Yeah, 10-4. She's got the door open now. I'm talking with her. He's trying to play me. No, he's trying to play me. Like all that [ __ ] hell. Ma'am, you need to step out of the car and talk with me back here. >> pick my car. Sir, what are you saying? And drive my car. >> Come out here and talk to me. I don't want to pull you out. >> No, you want to talk to me so he can hook my car. You already played me the first time. >> playing you. Sir, you played me. You did. You told me to get out of the car. Give me my driver ID. I need that. >> I'll get it to you when you step back here, too. Please, I'm going to wait till my best friend get here. I got to clean my whole car out. No, y'all trying to play me. And how much is it to get back from the pound? >> They'll They'll talk to you in just a second. How long How much is it to get from the pound? >> They'll talk to you in just a second. No, y'all trying to play me. What? He really He really just played me. Like you told me to get out of the car and you stepped in my car to grab my keys. Grab the stuff that you need to get out of the car. Like I'm taking everything. I don't even know why I got it. I should have waited till my best friend had got here. Like that's some BS. Like he really played me, cuz like dead ass. Like he really played me. Like hood, I can have somebody and he cannot. Like that's the option. They give you options. If you don't have a valid driver's license, if you they give you options. They say you have somebody come pick you up. Ma'am, go ahead and grab your belongings out of the car. Grab your belongings out of the car. >> So you see that that's when the guy just got out of his truck. And how long was he in there? And the only portion of the exchange that he has, if he recorded it, would be the trooper's back and the female from that perspective. So when you watch those kind of videos, make sure that you're cautious about making a snap judgment about who was right or who was wrong. Even in a body cam or dash cam, you're just getting a snapshot. And it's good to take all the information in to make a fair assessment of a situation. >> Whatever you want to get Ma'am, whatever you want to get out of the car, go ahead and get it out. He right here. I can't hear her. This what I'm saying. Hurry, like I'm not going to keep carrying my belongings around and stuff. I'm going to wait till my best friend get here. My best friend said >> have to carry them. You got a suitcase in the back that you can put stuff in. That way you or I'll help you put it back here in my car. >> to say since I got a suitcase I can put everything in here. He must not know what I have all in my car. All that Okay, well I don't know what all you have in your car, but if you'll get out we can address the issue. >> Sorry, so you Listen to me. Listen to me. Let me talk. Let me talk, okay? Please. Listen to me. I don't want to have to pull you out of your car, but if you then then then step out of the car. >> For what? So you can tow my car? You Ma'am, Sir, I have to get my >> out of the car, I will pull you out of the car and you will go to jail for obstruction. Step out of Step out of the vehicle. I'm not trying to do this right now. I'm trying to be calm with you, but you keep raising Ma'am, I'm not talking to her. I'm talking to you, okay? Ma'am, will you talk to me, please? Look at me. >> Okay, I'm not talking to her. She's not on my traffic stop. I'm talking with you. This is what I'm >> Listen. I'm not going to I don't want to pull you out of the car, >> to. You literally >> literally trying to tow my Step out of the car for me now. Grab your purse and step out of the car and we'll get your belongings when your friend >> This what I'm saying. Mama, he trying to play me. Hurry, like what? Step out of the car. >> And he literally and I literally get options to have somebody to come pick me to tow my car. This happened before. I get pulled over back to back for this [ __ ] And I get the same option for this. They don't never in their life tow my car. They asked me that. They was like, "If you don't have nobody to come pick your car up, then you cannot leave." I get a option for this. I'm trying to give you a little compassion by not putting hands on you and pulling you out of the car and taking you to jail right now. Step out of the car and that's the last warning I'm giving you. Step out of the car or you're going to jail for obstruction if I have to pull you out of it. >> He literally pulled me over because of my tags. And when I when I pulled when I pulled up in this parking lot to park, he literally pulled me over. And then he gave me He was like, "Do you have somebody to come pick you up or whatever?" What to do? I said, "Hmm, I don't have nobody that's close by, but I can have my best friend online cuz she she halfway here to drive my car so we can go home. And he going to say something He told me to get out the car. And I was like, "Okay." So, he said He said, "Get out the car and step to the back to talk to him." And I said, "Okay." And then he was like, Oh, [ __ ] He's talking to her at the front of my car. >> Oh, so stop pushing me. I didn't push you, ma'am. >> didn't you put your hands on me. Like, no. Like, hood. Like, you trying to tow my car. It's like, that's a Go ahead and load it up. Ma'am, you can grab the stuff once your sister gets here. That's not my sister. That's my best friend. Or your best friend. You can grab it once your best friend gets here. >> Well, he don't need to put it on the thing cuz I'm Okay, we're not getting into the car right now. Okay? >> Man, he said I can grab my stuff. I told you you can grab it once your best friend gets here. Stay out of the car so he can load it up. >> Like, this is some [ __ ] She hood, like Like, what? Like, this is a obstacle. They be playing me, bro. Like, he literally played me. Mama, he dead ass played me. Like, hood. Like, bro. Like, what? Like, give my ID. That's all I have. You just said you was going to give it to me. You lied about that. >> No, I will give it to you. >> Okay. If you don't mind. Okay, I will give it to you when you when we can have a cordial a cordial conversation. >> Wait, you lied the first time. Like, what? >> over here. Come talk to me over here. Ma'am, let him let him do his job and step back over here. He can't grab my baby. Like, you Step over here. He You going to take care of my baby? Just listen to him. Stop talking to me. All I asked was you a question. Go back here. I'll give you your stuff. You see where the other jurisdictions have arrived on the scene to assist. >> Come here. I got your stuff right here, ma'am. Okay, listen to him. Come over here. No. Like, I have a question. Here. Okay. So, like >> know anything. He He doesn't trust us. >> he want to know something? Like y'all here like y'all want to be nosey. So, Thank you. No, they they came over here because when I asked you to get out of the car, you locked yourself inside of it, okay? Here. >> Here you go. Well, lock it. He said I locked myself in the car. Y'all locked myself in the car. >> I heard it lock. Exactly. Thank you, Steve. >> Okay. Here. All right. This is the citations, okay? Court information, date, time, location, and phone number. If you have any questions, you can call. Here's a web- Hold on. There's a website right here that you can go to if you have any questions, okay? What all do you have What all do you have in your car? Everything. This is my belongings. Like you're literally playing me. Will you Will you contact your best friend and figure out where she's at? Y'all can leave. Where's your best friend at? That's the key to the car. She does need to get some belongings out of it, but I was just trying to let you get it up on the bed. Can we lower it back down once she gets Once you secure it, yeah, that's fine, but I just wanted you to be able to get it on the bed without her hopping in it and leave. All right. Let me hook this thing and lower it back down. That's fine. Go ahead and secure it as you need to, and then we can lower it. We'll lower it down once her best friend gets here, and then let her get her belongings out of it, and then we'll go from there. What's going on? Uh she's driving on a suspended So, I uh asked her to have somebody come pick her up, and I'll just I'll tow the car, and then she was under the impression that someone was going to be able to come pick the car up, so I had her step out of the car, and then I got her away from the car. I got into the car and got the keys so she couldn't hop back in it. She got in the car, and then I heard the doors lock, and then that's when I was like, "Hey, give me your keys." That way if I Cuz I I don't want to take her to jail on a suspended license. I really don't want to do that. And so, I was trying to be nice and let her get out of the car, and eventually she came out of the car, but well, I gave her one more warning, and then eventually she came out. Her looks like it is not that at all either. Well, that's she her tags are going to expire. She said she bought the car like back in May or something like that. Now, can we go ahead and can we go ahead and get go ahead and start getting stuff out of the car so when your best friend gets here we can just put it in the her vehicle and he can go ahead and leave. I need my keys. Well, yeah, I can't give you the actual key. I can't give you the key. You can't get the key. I need my keys. You can't have the actual key. You won't be able to have He can't give you the actual key back. >> So, it's interesting that in this jurisdiction that there's no tow slip that needs to be done in an inventory of everything inside the car. It seems like the trooper is trying to be cool with her and give her things out of the car. And a lot of times we will. I'm not sure if he did a tow slip or not. And the purpose of the tow inventory is to make sure that nothing gets taken out of the vehicle when it's out of the custody of either the person or the officer. I can open my door. Okay. I'm just going to try to help you get stuff out. I'm not going to grab my stuff out till my best friend get here. I just said that. Like I'm not going to I'm not going to carry nothing around. Go ahead and take it. I'm going to tell you to get your stuff out of the car. I'm going Now, what what valuable stuff is in there? Like I know you got shoes and clothing. But, what's all in the suitcase? What's in the black purse? And I like is there any like any phones, any laptops, any money, any debit cards, credit cards? >> is in the car. Yeah, well, I know everything. You're saying everything, but is there any debit cards or credit cards? Okay, where are where are those located? >> glove compartment. In your glove compartment or the center console? The console right here. The center console? Okay. Other than the debit cards and credit cards, is there any phones, laptops, anything of that nature that you that that you want out right now this very second? No. I'm going to just follow up behind him. Okay, that's fine. You said you're going to follow behind him? Yes. With my best friend. >> Okay. Then y'all can just grab everything at the tow yard. Go ahead and load it up and be fine. Y'all can just follow him to the tow yard and go from there, then. Or honestly, if you want to ride with him to the tow yard, she can meet you there. What Hold on. Why you trying to Why you put this on here? The wireless uh phone without hands-free device. Because when I walked up to the window, you had your You had your Snapchat open where you had video taping while we were driving. And so there therefore, you're using your phone while driving. You were video taping while I was already in the parking lot. What are you talking about? >> was moving. I I was already in the parking lot. What are you talking about? >> You're moving. I saw you with your phone out. Cuz you literally was calling on me, sir. It's like, what Can she ride with you to the tow yard? Okay. All right, I'm not going to argue anymore. You can ride with him to the tow yard and have your vehicle Okay, then you can stay here. But we're done. Okay, thank you. You can go to the tow yard or she can ride with you. It's up to you. She doesn't appear to be getting her car registered or having insurance on [music] her vehicle. And you get to see in this kind of situation, what we see frequently is that you'll get to see an interaction between an officer from one race and a person from another race, and people claim it to be a racially based incident. So we see this young lady receive more citations and had her vehicle towed. Justifiably, she's not supposed to be on the road. We see that the trooper gave her a ton of breaks and a ton of grace, but her car definitely didn't need to be on the road, and she's got to learn her lesson that you're not [music] going to just get citations and be able to continue to drive. And her story changed multiple times. Arkansas, I'm hoping that you forgive me. I showcased one of your native sons. You guys did a really good job.
