Hey, Edward. Step out for me. Hey. >> Hey. Can I have you stand back here for me? >> Sure. >> You got anything on you that I need to know about? Any weapons? >> Okay. Can I have you face your vehicle? >> What did I >> No, I get it. I'll explain to you what's going on. So, you got nothing on you? >> Nope. >> Okay. >> Well, a little Don't reach for it. >> Little pocket knife. >> Okay. No. No. >> And And a fingernail toenail clipper. >> Okay. No firearms on you? >> N. >> Is there one in the vehicle? >> Yes. >> Okay. Where's that at? >> Um uh I think it's behind my seat. >> Okay. >> I've got a concealed carry. >> I got you. Where's the knife at? >> Uh it's in this pocket. >> The this one? >> This one? Yeah. Front one. >> Okay. Do you mind if I just pull that out? Just go ahead. >> Okay. No other firearms on you. No. >> Okay. >> So, I got an officer coming. They're going to come talk to you. Ben. >> All right. You can face me. >> All right. Do you know why we would be stopping you for any reason? >> Anything going on today? >> Anything this morning specifically? >> From work. >> Where do you work at? >> Uh, I work for semi. >> Semi. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Did you have an altercation this morning? >> Not really an altercation. Um, uh, guy came when we got to the BP. He came and uh just kind of scared me cuz I ended up, you know, when I looked, I kind of steered his direction, but he was in a no passing, you know, with all the lines and [ __ ] He was passing me on that. And so I got over and then he kept on uh flipping me off and everything else. And >> where was I'm sorry, where was this >> by the BP? >> The the one on 16 by the 151 there. Okay. So he passed you >> in >> in the no passing. >> Yes. Where all the lines are before it comes to >> um you know the two lanes, you know, uh >> it's one lane and then pretty soon it two lanes and then another lane to turn. But you got all the yellow lines. That's basically there's two lines two lanes but you can't pass there. >> Okay. So like I said, I got an officer coming. She's the one that took the complaint. She's going to want to talk to you about it. I know very limited information. I don't think he knows anything about what's going on. He just kind of happened to be here. >> Right. >> Um Eddie, I was down. >> So, >> where you living now? >> In Randolph. >> Oh, okay. >> Do you got your ID on you? I'll just confirm that >> who I'm talking with and I'll just have you hang out right here. Okay. I appreciate it. >> Y >> we're going to need that warrant. You think? >> Uh he admitted the gun's in there. I haven't talked to him. I said I don't know what's going on. I said I got an officer coming. flyer. >> He uh said he talked about the incident this morning. >> He he had >> Yeah. I asked I was like, "Do you know why we're stopping you?" He goes, "No." I said, "Well, there's an incident that took place this morning. Can you tell me about that?" And then he went on to say that there was a road rage incident. He didn't say those words, but he said there was an incident over by the West Travel Center. >> Okay. >> Uh with another vehicle passing in, no passing or something like that. And I said, "Well, I don't really know what's going on, but you're coming. You're going to talk to him about it." But I did pat him down. Got a knife out his one pocket. He said that the gun is behind the scene. >> So we can try for consent. >> Yeah, I'll try first. >> Consent first. >> Let me grab it first. >> Hello. I'm officer Canal with Columbus police as well. >> Yes. >> Reason we're out here making contact with you is because of an incident that occurred this morning in Columbus. >> Can I get a little closer and harder? >> Sure. I'm just going to stand up here. >> Okay. >> Um what do you know about that? Uh I they asked me if they there was an incident and I said yes. Um a little one. It wasn't much of anything from what I was concerned with, but I was coming, you know, from Cambria where I live up on Wers's Road and uh came past Fall River and then when it came to, you know, single lane and then there's two lanes, but it's all marked, no passing, and then finally you get the two lanes and then the third lane for turning into the BP. So, I'm driving and all of a sudden this guy comes flying and I kind of got startled and I must have steered into him a little bit and then, you know, so then I kept on going and he kept on flipping the finger at me and everything else and he at one point he slowed down and pointed pull over and I just kept on going. >> Okay. You didn't pull over with him? No. >> Did you give the middle finger to him at all? No. >> You didn't have any negative? pointed at him with my finger. >> Okay? >> You know, hey, you know, it's your your your fault, you know. So, that's all I did. >> Okay. >> I didn't flip no fingers or anything. >> Okay. >> I didn't slow down. I didn't stop. >> Okay. So, I'm getting two different stories here from him and from you. So, that means Right. That means one, you lying, right? >> Right. Would it surprise you to know that he accused you of doing a lot more than that? Would it surprise you to know that? >> Cuz you mean like what? Well, like when you you know, you're talking to a police officer, right? And when you give your side of the story, you're going to give yourself a little, you know, grace. You're going to not say everything you did. So, are you sure? Is that the story that you're sticking with today? >> That's the story I'm That's what happened. So, why wouldn't I why would I change it? >> Okay. It's It's just crazy to me that you said you pointed a gun at him and there's a gun in your car >> there. Yeah, I do have a gun in there. >> Okay. So, why'd you point it at him? >> I didn't. I pointed I pointed my finger and it was It wasn't real light out. Maybe thought it was a gun. Okay. He was able to describe it perfectly. Let me guess. It's a black handgun. You have some kind of optic on it. >> No. >> Okay. Anything on the top? Any flashlight? Any type of holster on it? >> No. >> Well, it's in it's I keep it in a holster. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> He was he was able to describe that pretty well. So, what what you just described that's that's what he saw. >> So, if it wasn't out at all, how would he know that? >> Uh I have no idea. >> Okay. So, here's what I got. I got a fella telling me that this happened, right? Mhm. >> And and yes, he said you did almost run him off the roadway. Okay. >> Like I said, he startled me when he came up so fast. >> Okay. Um it's just unusual to me that your instinct is to turn towards him. >> Mhm. >> So So here's this just hear me out. Here's what I've got. I've got a young kid saying, you know, that you were driving aggressively towards him and then ultimately when you came parallel to him, you were pointing a firearm at him. A firearm which you have in your car which matches the description he gave. So, so it's it's kind of like, nah, something's not adding up here. I'm getting evidence that this did occur and you're saying that it didn't. So, I'm not really finding that credible. Is there anybody who could vouch for you who could say that you would never do something like this? >> Well, I used I used to be a corrections officer. I don't know if that makes any difference, but um I don't know. I I drive truck every day. I see all kinds of stuff every day. >> Okay. >> You know, it's it's crazy. I guess if someone did this to you, what would you want to see happen to them? >> If somebody did what? >> If someone pointed a gun at you in a road rage type deal, what would you want to see done to them? It's actually happened to me down in Milwaukee many years ago, you know, but um there's really um I guess I haven't had that happen to me, so I I don't know. I don't know. >> I thought it did happen to you in Milwaukee, though. >> It did many years. >> Well, what would you want to happen to that person if they pointed a gun at you and you guys got into a little tiff while driving? Someone points a gun at you. Now, what do you want to see done? Should they get a second chance? Should they should law enforcement arrest them? What do you think would be the right outcome? >> I don't know. >> Okay. >> I don't know. >> You don't think they should go to jail? >> Why? For one thing, I I did not point a gun. >> Okay. I don't believe you. You're showing a lot of signs of deception. So, I'm just looking for honesty because I can't make this better for you, but I can make it worse. And I want to help you out. I don't like helping people who are dishonest. I'm not going to. >> Mhm. >> So, I I want you to be super real with me. Own up to what you did cuz everything is telling me right now that that is what happened and that you are lying to me. >> Um, that's >> Did you feel threat? Did you feel threatened by him? Is that why? Cuz then that's a different thing entirely. Like if he's making you feel unsafe and you feel like you got to defend yourself because that's what that gun's there for. Like I said, he he just startled me. So, and then next thing he was over, you know, towards me and it's like, what the what's wrong with this guy, you know? So, >> okay. So, you felt like you had to defend yourself. There is really nothing to to defend. >> Okay. So, you pointed it at him for nothing. >> I didn't point it at him. >> Okay. Every time you say it, you look away from me. >> I like your eyes, but uh No. >> Okay. What I'd like to do is search your truck. Recover that gun. >> You or show you? >> No. No. No. No. You're not going to go in your truck and get a gun. Um I'd like to search it. May I have your your permission to search your truck? >> Yep. >> Okay. All right. I'm going to do that then. >> It's probably easier to get to from the driver's side. >> Okay. Can I search >> whatever you want to do? >> Can I search the whole truck? >> What's that? >> Can I search the whole truck? Okay, I'm going to do that then. I didn't know who you were. >> He's totally lying. >> Oh, absolutely. There's no way that the kid would be able to describe the detail and it might have been in the holster cuz he said that specifically, right? >> Yeah. that it looked like some fabric or it was in a holster or a snap top holster or something. Oh yeah, him saying, "I did not do that." And that he pointed his finger. What a little [ __ ] >> And then when you find the gun, >> tell them where you found it. So you found the gun under the seat or is that where you normally keep it? Cuz then it would show that it was within reach. >> Oh, I love that. Great. Great idea. I mean, do you think you could get it out of him? Cuz like I I think he was almost going to say it when I said, "Were you defending yourself? What kind of gun you got? >> It's a 9 mm um >> Celtech. Kel-Tech. >> Caltech. >> Yeah. >> Optic or flashlight? Anything like that? >> No. >> Semi-auto. >> Semi-auto. Yeah. It's old. Some guy owed me some money and got a gun that might even be hot gun. [laughter] >> Don't say that. >> I I don't I have no idea. I have no idea. >> I got you. >> Like you said, he owed me money and he gave me a gun. I'm cool with that. >> And I wasn't asking any questions. >> Yeah, I get it. >> What? You got no paying for it or what was the the >> He owed me like 150 bucks, I think. >> That's pretty good deal. >> Yeah. I thought, well, it didn't look like this guy was going to come through with me. So, one of these loser types, you know, >> I would get to the gun and not worry about the wrestling stuff. >> No drugs. Okay. >> That's >> still having difficulty. I don't know. I don't see it obviously back there. I have to look real close, but nice. >> Okay. Oh, I see it. >> Okay. 100% you could grab it from picture. >> Oh, yeah. Great idea. >> Oh, so it's right like here. >> Yeah. You see that? >> That's an easy green. >> Oh, 100%. >> 4229. >> 4229. >> Negative on the >> Okay. >> He said he did. >> 104. >> No, it doesn't. Okay. >> So, remember that's something if it's an issue, we may want to double or triple check. We got a lot of new dispatchers. I'm I'm not jabbing them. And this thing if we're going to make any kind of issue with that, we may want to >> This is This is it. Like he described it had something on top like maybe an optic and a snap top holster. >> I'm going to make it safe before before anything else. >> Yeah, it's a Celtic. I don't know about Celtic. >> This is a wacky wacky gun. >> One in the chamber. No, >> not that it matters, but >> No, I'm just saying. >> But still. Yeah. >> I don't know if those lock back like a traditional >> They do either. There is a slide lock, but it's 100% empty. >> Okay. >> Where were you? Uh, corrections. >> Uh, RCI. >> RCI. Uh, Rine. Okay. >> Um, and I lived here in town. No. Yes. Down on Waterloo Street. Thinking back where was I? [laughter] But uh yeah, I wanted to go to Fox Lake or Leon or uh Columbia. >> Yep. >> I was at Columbia >> with training and they says uh you'll be going to RCI and it's like >> that's a drive. >> I was born and raised in Rine and I don't like I like it better out in the country and stuff. >> Yep. I was at CCI for a little bit prior to law enforcement. >> CC Columbia. >> Columbia. Yep. Yep. Yep. >> Where's the pistol? >> He's got it. >> Okay. >> Um, so where do you usually keep this in the car? >> Right where it is. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> So, again, >> here. Here's what I got. >> You know, I I got >> I think it might be loading. Oh, there we go. >> I I got a kid telling me he said something on top like this, right? He he described seeing the barrel. He described seeing some kind of fabric around it. All black handgun style gun. So, I got a kid telling me that. a kid describing your car, your plates, you white beard, bald man, sunglasses with a hoodie. >> Mhm. >> Okay. Some's not I mean, this happened. You're You're just not admitting it to me. So So how do you explain that out of all the cars in the whole city and you happen to have a gun and he says that you pointed a gun at him from a place you could easily reach it, >> right? >> So >> Mhm. >> Mhm. >> Yep. >> Yep. So you did it. >> Yeah, I did it. Why? >> Because he was driving radically and I thought, is he going to push me off the road? And he rolled down his window. I didn't know if he had a gun or he was going to point it at me. And >> Okay. Why didn't you call us then? >> There's so much stuff. You guys are busy. And there's >> no guess what I was doing when this happened. Nothing. I was parked stationary. That's what I'm here to do is to help you. Now, I've got two sides of the story. And his side tells me that you endangered his safety today. >> That what? >> That you endangered his safety. >> He endangered my safety. That's >> okay. We'll agree to disagree on that one. Right now, you are going to be placed under arrest. So, I need you to face away from me. Face away from me and separate your feet. >> Charge lady. >> Uh the char the charges are intentionally pointing a firearm at a person, recklessly endangering safety second degree disorderly conduct with use of a dangerous weapon and carrying a concealed weapon. Do you have a second pair of cuffs? >> I have concealed carry. >> Uh we did a records check. It says you do not. We will double track. >> Do you have your card with you? >> Yep. >> Okay. That'll answer that question if you do. Is it in your wallet with you or is it in your truck? >> It's in my wallet. >> While it's on you or in the truck? >> It's in my pocket. >> Do you want your phone to come with you? >> Yes, please. >> Okay. >> Where's your wallet? Right here. >> Yes. >> Okay. I see you got your window down. It looks like you're legally parked. >> You call 95. >> Not bad idea. >> Where's your Where would your card be? >> Right there. See that Wisconsin on the front? right there. >> You're four or five year three years expired. >> Really? >> Yeah. You got to update it every 5 years. >> I didn't know that. >> That's why I was still holding it, you know. So, >> Yep. No, I get it. Cuz they don't send reminders out. >> Mhm. This is a handlebar to a motorcycle. >> Yep. >> You want it in the car? >> What's that? >> You want it in the car? Okay. >> And then I'm I'm sorry. I think I overspoke on you. Your windows down. Do you want me to roll that up? Lock it everything up. Okay. Everything works on this. So, if I hit the lock button, like I'm not going to mess anything up. It'll lock everything and unlock when you get your keys. Okay. >> Anything in your shoes? >> No. >> Okay. All right. We're going to go to the squad car right here to the passenger side. All right. Watch your head. Watch your shoulder. I found another fob. Does this go to the truck, too? Um, >> I don't want to leave it in there if it can unlock it. >> Yes. Um, >> yeah, might as well bring it along. And >> so, I have I'm going to show you what I got. The one fob, wallet, >> uh, cash, and then two sets of keys. >> Yep. Okay. >> You may want to kind of Yeah. twist lean kind of like that. >> Or you want to just He's bent, too. You want just put a transport belt on? Yeah. Here. Unbound. >> We're going to have you get out. We're going to put a belter on you. We'll put your handcuffs in front, which will be 100 times more comfort. >> Okay. >> Where's the mag by chance? Oh, I'll take it, too. I'll secure that first. >> Yep. >> Have you step out? We'll put this on. It's going to be a little bit easier for you. >> Be a lot more comfortable. Come out. >> Yeah. Yep. Yep. You're good. All right. So, I'm going to take this one out. Can I just have you just put this one straight down to your side? >> Same with this one. Straight down your side. You >> can raise up your arms there. Okay. >> It's going to be a lot more comfortable. Is that okay? Say, >> is that too tight? >> Uh, the tighter the better cuz otherwise it's going to slide down. >> Yeah. >> Perfect. All right. A little better. >> Yeah. >> Okay. I'll have you take a seat back in there. I'm going to go under your arms because it's going to be a little bit easier for you. Just like that. Good luck. Sorry I had to see you this way. All right, take care. I told Dave yesterday's oil change. I called and I said, "Think it needs a new tire?" He called me and said, "Dave, look. They're good for another couple of oil changes. Oh god, I don't think so. >> That's tire guy. >> Thanks for your help. My report's almost done. >> It's kind of nice how everything really came together, especially with the details of the kid and you know he him thinking it was an optic and it was probably that fabric top. >> You got a PC form and all that stuff up there. >> I'll send it to you to the jail. >> Okay. >> Chat chat the jailer and get the email or fax it to the jail. That's just the easiest way. >> It's going to be done very soon. >> Okay. >> Um carrying a piece of weapon. >> Oh, yeah. He's It's concealed. It was concealed. >> Yeah. He's expired. His card was 2022. So, good for what? Five. >> Five. So, yeah. 2017 to 2022. All right. I will be on my way. Yep. All right. Just want to show wallets, one fob, and then two sets of keys. >> Mhm. I'm just going to reach across from you up. All right. Appreciate that. And I'll have you step out. We're just going to walk up that ramp right into that room over there. I'm just going to hold on to you. Okay. >> Mhm. >> I feel a little dizzy. >> All right. Like you're going to fall? >> No, I'm I'm all right. >> Okay. There's a bench in there. Let's just go right and then uh I'll just have you take a seat on that. Okay. >> He said he's dizzy. I'm just going to put him on the >> Should we send him off for my clearance? >> I He just told me. It's up to you guys. >> What's going on? What's wrong? >> Pardon me. >> What's wrong or what's going on? >> Well, I just got out of the car. I'm I just had all my teeth pulled two weeks ago and I still get headaches. Is that it? Just headaches. >> You're good right now. >> I think so. >> I'm going to take the sunglasses off top of your head. >> That's funny. >> That wasn't that funny. >> I know. >> Can I just stand in real fast? Place the wall. Take the waist belt off after I patch you down. Do you get anything in your pockets? >> I don't know. >> Nothing that's going to stab you, though? >> No. >> Edward was found guilty of carrying a concealed weapon, and he was required to pay a $579 fine.
