Really? >> Where you cut from? >> I don't know. >> Looks like it was just on his finger. >> On your hand there. Okay. You want an ambulance for anything? >> I'm very dehydrated. >> Do you want an ambulance for anything? >> Yeah, cuz I've been in the sun a call. I'll wait till I >> We'll get an ambulance in route. I don't have any water. >> Maybe they'll have some for you. Just give me a minute here, >> please. I'm so dehydrated. >> Is there a wallet on them? >> I think. Yeah. >> I didn't feel anything in his pockets. >> Turn. >> Spread your feet for me. >> Spread your feet for me. Do you have anything on me that's going to poke me, stick me? Anything at all? Anything illegal on you? No, I don't have no guards or anything on me. >> Hey, I'm assuming you just ran straight. Just look look if there's any like tossing. >> He's gave me a couple off the cuff statements here, but we should probably Miranda him and see if he's willing to give a statement regarding the vehicle. >> Okay. Yep. I just wanted to make sure. What's your name, sir? >> Uh, Leonard. Lenny. Leonard, I'm going to read you something. Can you hear me loud and clear? Hydrated. Huh? >> Can you hear me loud and clear? >> Yeah. You drinking while you're little stepped on glasses. >> Oh, okay. >> All right. You can hear me? >> Yeah. Can I get out of the light a little bit, please, man? Thank you, guys. >> Right here. Hit your head on a tree, too. >> Yeah. I >> Yeah, >> I was drinking Friday night and passed out. >> Okay. So, that didn't just happen tonight. >> All right. I'm going to read this to you. You have the right to remain silent. Any you say can and will be used against you in the court of law. Do you understand each of these rights? >> Yes, sir. >> Realizing that you have these rights, are you willing to talk to us? >> Sure. >> Okay. So, give me one second. I'm going to stay tight. Sit tight here. >> First responder. At least one first responder just showed up. >> Okay. >> All right. Leonard, what's going on? What happened today? I was I was scared. >> Why? What were you scared of? >> Going back to prison. >> Why would you go to prison? >> Cuz I'm on. >> Okay. >> On a ATR and I took off from the foster treatment. >> You took off from a >> a treatment center. >> Treatment center. Whose truck is that? >> Guy in Madison. How >> How do you know this guy? >> I don't know. I met him Friday night. They were drinking. >> So, you just met a guy Friday night? >> Yeah. And how did you get possession of this this vehicle? >> He told me to take it. >> He told you to a random guy just told you to take his truck full of tools and everything. >> We were drinking together. >> What time did you take it? >> Um, probably around midnight, 1:00 in the morning, Friday night. >> So, Friday night into Saturday morning. >> No, I'm sorry. Saturday night. >> So, it been Saturday night into f into this morning. Yeah. >> So, you took it last night. >> Last night. Well, see, I I took off from Foster like Saturday morning around 9:00. And Foster is what? >> It's a treatment center. >> Treatment center for >> drugs and alcohol. >> Drugs and alcohol. >> Okay. So, you took off from there. You went to the bar last night. You met a guy. >> 324. >> I drove up here. >> Hold on. You met the guy. So, you met the guy. You were drinking with a guy. How did he get home? >> He passed out. So, I don't know. >> How did he give you permission to take the truck? >> At the capital and he was passed out drunk. was alive. Just took the truck. >> So, he didn't he didn't give you permission. He was passed out drunk. >> Well, I he was passed out drunk, but he told me I could take the truck to see my PO on Monday morning. That was my plan. I was going to go and sleep, you know, the night off tonight. >> Okay. He never gave you permission to take the truck. >> He did it earlier. Yeah. But he was passed out when I took it. So, >> Okay. All right. >> You know what I'm saying? >> So, is that why you took off from me today? >> Well, that's one reason. >> Because you knew I'm going back to prison. >> No, I know. But you took Why? Why did you take off then today? >> Scared. >> Scared? >> I've never done that in my life. I swear to God. I've >> never ever ever >> taken off like that. >> Never. >> So, why did you think you were going to get in trouble though if you just had a headlight out? >> I don't know. >> Cuz you knew that. You knew you stole the truck. >> Well, no. I'm on probation. I'm on a probation hold. >> Okay. >> So, I knew I was going to go to jail. I know this. >> Now, it's just worse. Now I'm in a [ __ ] cargo for five five years. Okay, here you go. >> Hi. >> Um, how do you want to really do all the So, we blew through these stop signs here going I guess 60 on 13 into 80. >> Whatever you got, Chris. We can go back and review the video and if there's stuff in our jurisdiction, we'll definitely write the sites if that's what you want. >> No, I can do it. I'm just wondering how I haven't had to deal with this much. >> What do you want? Um Madison's already been contacted as far as uh uh with the stolen vehicle confirm everything from there. Probably to speed things along here. We're just going to have toll service come take the vehicle. Probably the closest easiest route is drop it off at Grand Rapids PD. >> Okay. >> They'll be responsible for the keys and then turning it over to whoever comes up here and picks it up unless you want to take it back to your jersey. >> I'm fine with that, honestly. >> Okay. So then I'll get that all set up. You got enough here to worry about. Yeah. I mean, all I have is the basically the felony fleeing and then the 99, right? >> And you got the stolen aspect. >> And the stolen aspect. >> So everything to match up with Madison and what you got going on down there. So >> Okay. >> But yeah, for sure. >> Am I Am I okay doing the felony flee? Even though I activated it in your uh jurisdiction, I'm still okay to do that, right? >> Jeez, that's a good question. >> Cuz I What ended up happening is I got a flock alert. >> Well, you have fresh pursuit. So your fresh pursuit would have started. You knew it was a violation already in your jurisdiction. And then >> and there was a headlight out too, which >> Yeah, you're good to go. >> Okay. So, I'm going to do that. I'll do the felony fleeing. >> Um, they got the stolen. That's kind of Sorry. My brain is like, >> "No, I got you. I got you. Let's slow it down." So, if there's anything I'm missing or you're missing, we'll figure it out in the end. >> All right. But he's going to go to jail for the felony fleeing and the 99. That's all I really have to worry about at this point. >> You're going to match up their charges down there. They'll also you'll also be held for the stolen vehicle as well. >> Okay. >> Okay. So, Okay. So, whatever they have down there for the stolen aspect of it, they're going to want him as well. So, that's got to be incorporated with whatever you're going to put on your your booking and all. >> That'll be on the booking. So, I got to get a hold of them and see what they all have. >> Yep. >> All right. >> Either way, >> like I went over with Martin, but just I think all I have is the felony fleeing >> and then he says he says you guys will handle this. We'll go through this. I can write him, but he says stop sign. They're speeding. I think two stop signs. Um, >> yeah. >> Equipment violations. There you go, buddy. [laughter] >> I'll tell you what. This is going This is going back to the pursuit. >> This is going to go back to the RO. I don't think he's going to be fixing any of that. >> Well, it's operating. >> True, true, true. >> All right. >> So, other than him being dizzy, there's not too much going on right now. Um, he's under >> I just wanted to make sure with you. >> Yeah. So whether you want him to go with us or >> No. Are you okay coming going with me? You don't need an ambulance, do you? >> Okay. >> Okay. So then we'll fill out that refusal form. >> And you need me to sign it? >> Yeah. I'll have you sign it since he's in your custody. >> Okay. >> Um I'll probably find a spot and just have him sign it as well, just to be on the safe side. >> So I'm going to go over a few things with you >> and you as well. So obviously I don't have X-ray vision. There could be something going on inside you that I can't see. Um, that being said, your vitals are stable from what I'm seeing so far. Everything looks okay. Those abrasions aren't anything bad. >> I think we're And if anything changes, obviously, don't hesitate to call us back if you need us or to me, get a med cleared. Either way, works real well. Um, >> I'll have you guys sign. >> Are you good with him? >> Okay, just call him. >> Yep. >> All right. Thanks, guys. >> I should go to the hospital. >> Excuse me? >> I should go to the hospital probably. >> You should go to the hospital. Why? >> I swallowed a bunch of [ __ ] >> You swallowed a bunch of stuff? >> Yeah. >> What' you swallow? >> I don't even know. Just a bunch of pills. >> When did you swallow them? >> Not very long ago. during the chase. >> Do you know what it was? >> My medication. >> Were they in a pill bottle? >> Where was the pill bottle? >> I threw it out. >> They're going to want med clearance anyway. So, >> okay. >> Threw it out somewhere. >> Um, >> while he's driving in the woods, if you want, you can threw it out. We can handle a lot of stuff while you were driving. >> While I was driving, >> I don't think I have anything, >> but >> it's just my normal. He's going to have to ride with him, I'm assuming. Or will they allow to follow? >> 15 of them. >> Where do you take them for? >> Ask Martin. >> If he says that ambulance should probably take them in case something happens. You don't want them in the back of the squad. So, >> all right. Um, that's what we should probably >> have to ride with. I don't know. Can >> ask them. They might just let you follow. >> Well, are they This is the ambulance. I thought it was first responders. He's gonna want to be transported at this point. You want us to follow or do we have to be in the inside with you? >> Are you gonna be cooperative with me, man? >> I promise. >> I'm not worried. >> [ __ ] up. That's a little different for me now. You know what I mean? >> If I help you cuz all the squads are here. I can't get my ambulance in. If I help you, you good to walk down there? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> All right. I'm just going to hold your arm cuz I don't want you to fall cuz then it's my fault. >> Leonard was charged with vehicle operator fleeing or eluding an officer. He was also given three citations for unreasonable and imprudent speed, two citations for failing to stop at a stop sign, two citations for operating left of center, and a citation for unsafe lane deviation. He was found guilty on all charges and sentenced to 18 months in prison, 3 years of probation, and he was required to pay $2,18 in fines.
