Damn. >> Everybody get hard cover. Hard cover. >> The Florida United Methodist Children's Home and Enterprise. Florida was supposed to be a place of safety, a place where kids with nowhere else to go could find some kind of stability. But on the evening of June 1st, 2021, it became the beginning of something no one could have imagined. At around 5:00 p.m., staff reported two residents missing. A 12-year-old boy named Travis O'Brien and a 14-year-old girl named Nicole Jackson. Travis was diabetic and didn't have his medication. Nicole had just assaulted a staff member with a stick before walking out the door. Nobody knew where they were going. Nobody knew what they were about to do. >> Just wait here for now. When get here, we might have you pull up towards the garage a little more. >> Where's his dang thing at? >> It's for sure these juveniles, right? >> No, but either way, I mean, I'm He said saw a couple kids doing it. I'm I'm not going to send a dog in to bite a 12. >> I know. That's I was like, we're going to bite these kids. >> No, no, no. I mean, we can park and maybe make some noise, but we're not going to send a dog in. Dude, I can't believe they made it that quick. All the way from there over here. >> Less than a mile down the road, they broke into a house. No one was home, no alarm, no witness, just an unlocked door and whatever was waiting inside. >> Someone I did a U-turn in this driveway like 15 minutes ago and there was a car leaving here. >> Do we have a time lapse? Cuz they might have taken that car. She said she couldn't understand somebody. >> Go ahead and hold what you got. Sign the fourth entry. Do >> 104. Fourth entry. >> Sheriff's office. >> Anybody in the house, come out now through the rear toward the pool. >> Hands up. Open the window. >> Make sure we got everything covered. >> Yeah. Move. Got ball. >> Sit tight right there. >> You stay here. >> What was waiting inside was an arsenal. A handgun, a shotgun, an AK-47, and enough ammunition to make every one of them count. Two children had just armed themselves to the teeth, and deputies were already on their way. Okay. You keep an eye on the front door. >> All right. Just remember it is >> two kids, 14 and 12. >> Yeah. If they come out, you're good to >> you're good to chase them. Just let someone know. Big guy out. >> All right. There's no rush on our side. >> 47. >> You said you have a PX number for inside the house. >> Yeah. No answer. >> All right. Just stand by on it. 42. You can come down here. >> Come down here. >> When you pull in, we got Donny's car all the way up here by the second fence. Um, we can set up here and then whenever you guys ready to move and I'll get from the garage in the dog in the coming >> Billy, you want to try those PA announcements? >> All right, stand by set up the radio. Stop chatter making contact. We're setting things up here. We're no run times on our site. >> Even the K9 unit was on scene that night. Dogs trained to take down grown men hardened to chaos. Nothing could have prepared them for this. >> This is the Valuchia Sheriff's Office. We know you're in there. We need you to come out with your hands up. Do it now. last window. Stand by. >> How many rounds is that? From inside the house, the children began firing at law enforcement, turning a runaway call into an active gun battle. >> Watch out, Donnie over there. >> If they come out the back, you're out of it. >> What? Stand up. Come back here. Coming up. Stand up. Thank you. >> Back in this front window. >> Back at the front window. >> No weapons on hand. I just busted out the window on the back. Stand by. Female has a shotgun in her hand. Stand by. >> No weapons in her hand. I just busted out the window in the back. Stand by. >> Female has a shotgun in her hand. Stand by. Hey guys, just holding me. Hold the air. >> I'm actually here now. I've got that. Thank you. WC ready for trans. Good. Donnie, >> both juveniles are hunkered down behind a bed at this point in time. Weapons are pointed at the front opening door to the resident. Stand by. >> Okay, again everybody just Donnie, when you just keep updating that way, keep an eye on them. high above Enterprise, Air1 was already in the sky. Its camera locked onto 150 Enterprise Austinine Road. And what it captured that night would shock everyone who saw it. Two small figures moving room to room, window to window, garage to backyard. methodical, calculated, like they'd done this before. On the ground, deputies were pinned, taking cover behind trees, behind cars, anywhere they could find protection from the gunfire tearing through the night air. >> Stay where you are. Stay safe behind our cover, and just keep us a good 45. >> Where is the AK in the res? Are you in a position where you can like bring that RP up here to the uh command post to the community center? >> Yeah, we can drive. >> Yeah, bring him up here. Stand by. She's got the AK and a shotgun. She's wrapping around the top of her neck. >> Hey Matt, just also we threw Jar's phone inside to try to make contact with him and they never picked up the phone. It's uh in the door that goes in from the garage. >> Okay. All right. Has one standby. Shots fired again. Female now has a pistol. Juvenile male has a long gun. So does the female. Stand by. >> No. Another shot fired. >> Hey Davis. 8. 8. What? 8 7 83. >> Shut my door. Thank you. >> If I haven't got you, I need you guys over here. >> 8470. >> This is for Carson, right? >> Yes. Oh, yeah. What is it? >> 8470. >> There's no light on this one, right? >> No. >> I don't want to be hit. >> If you do, bring your gun out. Don't hit your light unless we really have to. It'll give us away. there. >> Um, I'm good, but can you do me a favor? I I do need somebody to stay exactly right here >> and keep track of whoever goes out into into um until I can find Galarsa. Okay. >> Cuz Garza's got the crime log on, but I need somebody to man this part of the crime. >> Got it. >> After 35 minutes of gunfire, it was finally over. Nicole walked out of that garage with a shotgun pointed at deputies. They returned fire. She went down. Travis, still armed with the AK-47, heard the shots and put the weapon down. Just like that, it was done. Both were taken into custody. Travis was treated on scene for his diabetes. Nicole was rushed to Central Florida Regional Hospital with life-threatening injuries. She survived. Travis and Nicole were juveniles at the time of the incident, which means those records are sealed and redacted by law. What we can tell you is what the charges said. Attempted first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer. Armed burglary for a 12-year-old and a 14y old. >> Do I have any more? >> No. I'll get some. I'm going do two separate bags. You can do >> Yeah, that's we're leaving it all. There's blood and stuff. >> We do. Or if it's easier logistically though for us to go to Sanford with him cuz the other ones there, we can do that, too. Whatever you guys want. >> Okay. >> He's stable. He go to any hospital. >> You go to Delhi, whatever you want. This is his clothes, too. Okay. >> That 14-year-old that he runs away with, you may remember, uh, over the last year or so, stole a bunch of puppies, gets put into a halfway house in Flaggler County, burns the home down. >> In January 2023, Jackson pleaded no contest to attempted first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer, armed burglary, and criminal mischief. At just 15 years old, she was sentenced to 20 years in prison, followed by 40 years of probation. >> So, Miss Jackson, do you understand that? >> Yes, I do. >> The judge repeatedly asked the teen if she understood if convicted by a jury at trial, she could face life in prison, >> which would mean the rest of your natural life would be served in prison. Do you understand that? >> Yes, your honor. >> Because 12-year-old Travis O'Brien surrendered peacefully immediately after Jackson was wounded, his case took a different path. kept entirely within the juvenile court system, O'Brien reached a plea bargain in 2022 and was placed into a secure juvenile facility, facing a significantly shorter period of confinement.
