What's wrong with you? Please help. Don't hurt me, please. Oh my god, I'm sorry. Please pull over here. We'll stay on the ground. That's cool. >> That's cool. That's cool. That's cool. I'm cool. I don't know. You said it doesn't mean anything. He's authority. In March 2022, [music] Kaishon Hooton decided that a red light was the perfect time to catch up on her phone notifications. When Deputy Govar pulled up with flashing blue lights, she acted like he was just a friendly neighbor trying to pass her. Apparently, schools are really failing the public these days because [music] she didn't seem to understand that blue lights mean pull over, not have a blessed day. It was a masterclass in how to turn a ticket into a trip to [music] the station. Oh, Jesus. You lost? 54027 Okay. You want me to put you out or what are you doing? What is What do you think the flashing blue lights mean? I thought you were just trying to get over. Right. That's why I sit behind you, right? Let me see your hand. Okay. Uh so, three different things I'm pulling you over for. I already followed you driving. I want you to pull over. >> We were at a red light. You can't use your phone. It's got to be hands-free. So, the first thing. Secondly, you have no insurance on the vehicle. Yes, I do. I do have insurance on my vehicle. Yes, sir, I Pull it up for me on your phone. I I definitely will. Can I take my seat belt off? Yep. I'm going to take it off. Our registration is out of date. Our registration is canceled. Valid insurance. Make sure to go to an app, something that's live. A picture or an email won't work. Why won't a picture work? What I just I just used the picture when I paid for my insurance. They haven't sent the physical copy. All I have is the Declaration of Independence. I paid for my insurance >> of Independence? So, the reason an insurance card is garbage is because you can cancel your insurance after you receive that. So, that's not an up-to-date policy. Do you want to call them, sir? I'm not going to call them. Seriously? I don't understand how this is possible. We at a red light. We looked each other directly in our eye. You asked her >> Oh, no. looked at you and I held my phone my camera over to you so I could record you playing on it. Okay, do what you got to do. I don't know. Can Can you tell my work job first so I don't lose my job at least? And I do have insurance. Matter of fact, let me call my mom. This is Can I have your first and last name? Mhm. Deputy Guevara. You can provide me with proof of insurance. If you can't provide me with proof of insurance >> you with proof of insurance. You just said you can't have the physical you I don't have the physical copy so I don't know what you want me to do. Get an up-to-date copy of the insurance. So call your insurance company. >> to do that? I'm in the car. What they going to do? What they going to do? What do you mean? What can they do if you just said something on the phone isn't valuable? You have to have a piece of paper so what can my insurance do? >> That's not what >> From the very beginning, the situation was serious. [music] The woman broke traffic laws and then chose to start an argument instead of cooperating with officers. That choice showed a complete lack of common sense and responsibility. This was the kind of behavior where ego replaces logic and a simple stop slowly turns into unnecessary drama created by stubborn decisions. >> I said I said something live. So if you call your insurance if you tell Listen. Call your insurance. Have them Have >> me out. You have no customer service. You respect me. I'm respecting you. You going to listen? Cuz you're not listening. You're over here talking about the Declaration of Independence and everything else. You going to listen? You ready? Are you ready? You are wild. You are wild. All right. Go ahead and get somebody Get somebody to come and pick you up, okay? I'm going to take your car. For no insurance. Get on the phone now. Get on the phone. What's wrong with you? Call me a ambulance. Oh my god. I GOT YOUR CAR. I GOT THE PHONE. YOU'RE GOING TO GET TASED. ROLL OVER. ROLL OVER. ROLL. ROLL. YOU ARE [ __ ] I literally was going to give YOU A WARNING. NO, YOU'RE GOING TO JAIL NOW. Be quiet. Yep, it's going to go with the tow service. What are you doing? Well, you're trying to run. against the vehicle. Relax. Stop. This is why we're here. We'll stay on the ground. That's cool. That's cool. That's cool. I'm cool like that. What made this more shocking was how the situation kept getting worse with every passing moment. Instead of facing the issue, the woman tried to run away, proving that the law meant nothing to her. Running from responsibility never fixes anything. It only confirms that the person already knows they are wrong. It's all good. I'll clear it. Can you get my phone off the floor? Stay down. I wasn't going nowhere. No, you're not getting your phone right now. Why? I can't get up. I was going to go to work. Well, not anymore. I don't care. I don't care. I don't care. Yeah, we're clear. Can you get next to Ew. Yep. I don't I don't know Just saying it doesn't mean you're not doing There's authority. Hey, can you check the >> So, I got a question. It's not in there. It's on my phone. What was I trying to show you? He just said I couldn't show him He just said I couldn't show him my um insurance on my phone. He said I had to get a physical copy. But, the police just told me that I could. So, what what So, where where did the rule switch? This was just last week. And I showed the officer my insurance on my phone. Cuz I didn't even know I didn't have insurance no more. And she told me to get insurance. >> going to call my supervisor so you can save your breath cuz he doesn't care. >> I don't care. I'm not trying to plead my case. I'm just telling him what happened. >> stop talking? Like, what you are rude. What what what What race are you? I'm Mexican. I see why. No, I like Mexicans. But, you just You are rude. All right. That's why you took off. I wasn't. No, I wasn't. Okay. I did That's why I'm saying just stop talking, dude. >> I did I absolutely took on the side of my car. >> up. What the heck? My phone is on the floor. >> Will you lock her in cuz I'm a police officer? Can you grab my phone, too? >> Will you stop talking about the phone? No. You going to jail. Okay, how many times do you got to tell me you got to The woman had clearly decided that she would never admit her mistake. She kept offending herself at all costs and continued telling different false stories. This only made the situation worse for her. >> [music] >> There was no sign of embarrassment or concern that things could turn further out of control. What's wrong with you? Can you get her up? Let's get her in the car. Sit down. >> Hey, can you get my other shoe? I'll get it for you. >> Thank you. Okay, I'm Sergeant Day, okay? I'm going to roll the window down just a little bit more. I don't care to explain my story. Can you make sure all my stuff is there? I don't All y'all do is believe everybody else. I don't care to tell a story. I don't want to explain nothing. Can you get my stuff? Can you make sure my phone is in my car? I have a right to make sure all my belongings is in my car. So, can you do that? I don't have nothing else to say to you. Okay, that's fine. >> Have a great day. Have a blessed day. Okay, thank you. Please don't say nothing to me. Just make sure my stuff is in my car. My phone >> I don't have to talk to you. I mean, you're welcome to explain to to you what's going to happen from here on. >> care. If I If I can't If I can't say what I got to say, then there's no need for me to talk. Okay. If you don't want to hear that, that's fine. So, can y'all take me to jail? We're waiting on this person right here. We're going to do a search, make sure you don't have any weapons on you or anything you can't have in the jail. Can you get my stuff? Can you get my stuff that's on the floor? I have the right to have all my How am I going to know if it's not there? All All your All your stuff will be accounted for. >> How? If it's on the floor. Well, >> It's outside of my vehicle. >> When we tow your car, we have to do an inventory of it. So, all that stuff is documented. How? How you going to know what's mine and what's not mine if my stuff is outside of my vehicle, sir? So, that could be a random phone. So, how I'm going to know if How I'm going to know if my phone going to be in my Where would it be? It's outside of the car right now. All I'm saying is put it in the car so I don't forget it. >> Okay, we can take care of that. No problem. Can you have her hurry up so I can go? We can, but we're still having a conversation there. We done. Have a good day, sir. Do you know where your wallet's at? You got to ask him. Okay. >> There was not a single moment when the woman paused or calmed down. Her mouth kept moving faster than scissors, [music] blaming everyone else while desperately trying to save herself. The constant excuses only made things worse, and [music] sitting inside a police car while exposing herself further was far from a smart move. I'm cool. I'm calm. I'm collected. You can pull me out. Go ahead. Do what you got to do. Go ahead and step out the car. All right. I'm Deputy Castle. I'm going to search you, okay? Thank you. >> Who's this? Um my girlfriend. That's the person that I called when I was trying to get their insurance pulled up. >> tell her real quick? Yeah. I'mma call you when I'm able to make my first phone call. Where you at? I'm I'm locked up. I know. They already took my stuff. >> Forsyth County jail. Forsyth County jail. Print off my proof of insurance, please, so I can have that. Yes. Thank you. She's saying like Hello. Yes, I love you. I love you, too. Um are you going to be able to post bail? I'm not sure until I'll have a bond. I don't know how much it is until after they process me. What began as a minor traffic stop related to registration and insurance could have been resolved easily with cooperation and a ticket. Instead, the woman had other plans. It almost seemed like she wanted a trip to jail. Repeated refusal to cooperate and attempts to flee directly landed her behind bars. She was charged with obstruction of a law enforcement officer through threats or violence. Her car was towed, [music] her job was likely lost, and her dignity was left on the asphalt. Do you think the officer was too harsh, or did she bring this on herself with her declaration of independence? Let us know in the comments if you've ever seen someone fail a traffic stop this [music] spectacularly. Subscribe for more lessons on how to stay out of handcuffs.
