on May 6th 2022 law enforcement responded to a fraud report from a woman who noticed unauthorized transactions on her credit card it was her second report of such an issue previously there had been a large charge at a store in late April this time the card was used at a hotel in Florida for hundreds of dollars upon investigation the case revealed a surprising connection should the hotel staff have verified the identity of the card holder more thoroughly so I've got a a make a phone call he's got a out paperwork for now I am going to put you in cuffs it doesn't mean you're going to jail I want to make a phone call my supervisor talk to about this but for now I need to set these things down real quick okay you have anything sharp on you going to quot me or stick me upon arrival a hotel employee informed the officers that the woman's daughter booked the room when officers knocked on the room door the daughter came out she claimed to have been on the phone with her mother and insisted the charges were unintentional she explained that the hotel app showed no prepayment required so she was surprised her mother's card had been charged officers clarified that they needed to ask her questions and read her rights though they clarified this didn't mean she was being arrested at that moment hey can Allison come on out hey um yeah I was just on the phone with my mom they weren't supposed to charge the um I don't want the door shut um they weren't supposed to charge the room it was supposed to hold the room it says on the app like I just talked to my mom about that what for her visa yeah like I didn't even know her visa was on there so I wanted to talk to you last week before all this about what about or actually I'll tell you what because I want to talk to you about it I'm going to read you your rights because the nature of what I'm asking you about it doesn't mean I'm placing you under arrest right now but because I'm asking you about it I got to read your rights is there anybody else inside right now by the way no no I just I didn't have my keys so I didn't want the door to shut the officers mentioned the first reported fraud involving charges at a store and explained that surveillance footage described someone matching her appearance they asked if she knew anything about the charges she denied involvement stating she didn't have her mother's card and hadn't used it she claimed her mother possessed the card and denied appearing on any surveillance footage uh the writer May sign anything you say may be is evidence against you you have the right to talk to an attorney have him or her with you hour anytime during questioning if you cannot afford an attorney w't be appointed to represent you if anytime you wish to stop talking to me or have an attorney president all questioning will be stopped at your request do you understand these rights yes these rights in mind are you willing to talk to me the reason I wanted to talk to you last week was about the charges on her Target card from the weekend from what from last weekend so I was called she had charges on her card didn't know who it was um but they were over the weekend they were over the weekend and they were at Target with a Target card so that was the initial reason that I was called do you have any clue about the charges on her card W she she she said something about her um I got to look at my text messages but uh no I don't have her Target card she has it it's in her possession yeah okay I'm asking if you know about the charges no all right so they did get footage of someone using it now our process takes a little longer to have access to the footage but they described a younger female that matches your description So eventually we're going to look at that footage is it going to be you on the camera using our credit card because I I I don't have her card I I'm telling you I know that she has it I understand that but there's only so many people in her life who could have gotten into her home picked up the card went to the store within the time frame that you borrowed her car and then return the car to her purse there's not a whole lot of people who would have access like that I wasn't even home in the times that she said that the charges were happening no it sounds like you borrowed a car on like a Thursday and you brought it back on was it Sunday uh Monday morning Monday morning so that same time that you picked up our car and brought the car back is the same time that the credit card was same window that the credit card was used within so I could totally see a scenario where when you go to pick up the car yeah grab a card use it for the weekend bring it back all right cuz there's going to be footage of whoever used the card at the store okay I understand and we just so happen to have you using her car here no I used the Choice Hotel account to hold the room because they were going to book up they're not supposed to charge anything it it says on it no repayment or anything like that so you don't have her visa card with you no would you be willing to show that like your wallet or your purse doesn't have any of her credit cards in there yeah absolutely when asked about borrowing her mother's car the timeline matched the period when the charges occurred officers suggested a scenario where the card could have been taken during the borrowing period but the daughter denied it she reiterated that she didn't have her mother's card officers then asked if they could check her wallet to which she agreed although the officers didn't find her mother's credit card in her wallet they discovered her mother's expired driver's license they questioned why she had the ID and she explained that she used to handle all her mother's payments and still had it from when she worked for her however her mother later informed officers that the daughter was not authorized to have the ID the officers returned to the front desk to verify how the hotel room charges had been made the hotel confirmed that the room had been paid for using a a card ending in the same digits as the mother's current credit card makes this easier I can show you um why is it that you had Mom's ID with your stuff oh that was um it's an expired one but when I had to do her I used to basically system so I do all of her payments everything for her and I just this is expire two years ago though yeah that's what I used to work for I still have M all right and why not just have your own choice account why not like why still use it with herbs I trying to get free nights thank you hey so they want to verify when I gave you my ID I gave you my ID my card correct do you guys have it saved like on file what ID and what card was given initially yeah the first time you pay on we credit card ended in 4262 master car that was on April 27 that's myard and is there still money owed right now or is she all paid well with this credit card is uh brother in charge they for tonight tomorrow okay last night it's all covered last night is covered 11 to leave and what card was last night I paid cash right I paid cash year no oh no no I did that on last night that was on no that was hotel.com I did that yeah it was cheaper I don't know what was but it's not when they paid to the third party we had no information the only that wasn't her card it was yeah it was paid with a speedia V car spe does it show how much it is yeah she p oh according to this this she PID $80 I don't know because speed charge extra was there any like $200 charges on there 240 is uh for tonight for this morning yeah okay all right and that oh that's my C is that through the app through like a website or through an application or on choice yes you make a reservation with Choice Central reservation choice and she paid with the c belong to Pal Coast Sport Medicine my mom's car and this is the lady who call me and say this that somebody stole her from her do you have the receipts for any of the ones you paid for on your like from the website email or anything like that um yeah yeah I was trying to find out cuz my da card's not in there the Master Card he was talking about it's not there the first one yeah you said the last four of the Master Card was yeah I'm going to print the information right now the credit card is use now 236 belongs to right that's the one that on my the officers contacted the woman again and she confirmed that she had never authorized using her card on the hotel app and had no shared account with her daughter she also stated that her new card had been manually entered into the app without her permission as she had replaced it just a month and a half ago the daughter maintained that the charges were unintentional and claimed she had used a hotel app to book the room room she suggested the card was saved in the app but her mother clarified that she had never used the app nor would her card have been saved there the officers informed the daughter that her explanation contradicted the evidence during further questioning officers brought up the previous fraud case involving the store charges they mentioned that surveillance footage described a younger female resembling the daughter they asked if she would appear in the footage and she denied it maintaining that she never used the card at the store however the mother later revealed that she had faced similar issues with her daughter including incidents where the daughter had written unauthorized checks the mother expressed frustration with the ongoing misuse of her credit card and ID stating she never permitted for her daughter to have her expired driver's license give me one second hi there um I was just wondering so one second the uh the charges today it seemed like they were done through a choice app is there an app that you all have shared together in the P so you've never had the choice app for hotels and you never put your card on any kind of choice app and this one is a new card the last one you canceled okay no they would have to you would have to input the number again like if if you get your card replaced and you have a membership that would ask you to put in the new numbers so how recent is the card that was charged today yeah how new is that c okay and not only in a month and a half but you've never used the choice app and you've never put your card on there [Applause] okay I don't use any of the apps first of all because I'm not really T I'll be honest with you but because um I just had so many fraudulent charges over the time have you ever given her permission to have your ID my ID no you're Florida driver's license even an old expired one that expired in 2020 uh no okay she said that she she had one and she said it was cuz she used to help you take care of certain like bills or something like that she she worked in my office but I had to stop that because she was writing checks and stuff but you never part of that process of working for you she was never supposed to have your ID no okay all right I have a feeling she's going to be coming with us in a little bit oh we're at the front is my granddaughter there there's no other people here in the room she was in a room 102 and there's no one else in there right now okay I have no idea where my 14-year-old granddaughter is okay let me ask her about that for all of this I have I don't to my daughter be a responsible person of course yeah all right let me talk to her really quick I'll I'll have some more for you a little bit I might have my partner call me I have the envelope here for you you if you don't come by I can bring it home with me or something and try to drop it off I can have my partner swing by after this if needed okay all right all right all right byebye [Applause] thank the officers explained that this pattern of behavior was concerning and informed the daughter she would need to leave the hotel the hotel management requested a trespass warning against her and officers began the necessary paperwork the daughter was informed that she would be placed in handcuffs while officers consulted their supervisor after reviewing the situation the supervisor approved her arrest she was charged with unlawful use of a credit card and possessing another person's ID without consent the officers explained the charges to her placed her in the vehicle and assured her that her belongings left at the hotel would be held for her to retrieve later was there supposed to be somebody else staying in the room with you my daughter is she okay now where is she at now um my brother-in-law passed away on Friday um she's at my sister-in-law house okay um she went there last night the choice app that you said you all shared mhm okay your mom said she's never been part of a choice app or never Ed a choice app she is she uses the window and the choice and the h okay she said that she's had to cancel her card because her card kept ending up on those accounts and the card that's on there now um she just replaced as recent as a month and a half ago which means in the last month and a half her card would have had to have been manually entered back in there to be used which she did not do I mean I don't tell you I just booked it on there and I was trying to get it paid like I wasn't trying to have them do it they it's just it's a it would have made sense if she did you both had shared access with the app she says she's never needed that app never used that app and her card would have never been put on there with her permission because she doesn't use it so we're at a point where I get what you're saying it was on the app but it's not an app she's a part of in any way except for the fact that her credit card ended up on there yeah for real between you and I are you going to be on the target footage using the card no oh I I we were just talking about that before you walked in I'm like it's going to be clear for I understand that I know that I know how Target works I mean they've got like a screen in front of you when you're doing it you know I mean I'm trying to be as forthcoming as possible with you guys like I appr every single night here the info is not checking out she also said that you weren't supposed to have her ID and that there was no reason in the past for you to have it that is a lie what was it what was the reason again that you had it because I've done everything for her what does that mean I don't understand I paid all of her bills I've been her basic personal assistant up until last year yeah she said that it was when you worked at Sports Medicine yes she said that she had to let you go because you were writing checks from the company checks yes I did write checks we have a pattern here you know what I'm saying this is understand that an ongo pattern of using other people's stuff without their permission and I don't see why you would if you guys work together in sports medicine I just don't see why you would need her ID in your possession nonetheless two years later I I just I mean I kind of keep every single card um we should do 27 with the business um so they are going to have you do you still want to go with the trespass yes all right I haven't done the paperwork yet they are going to have you trespassed here uh I just got to F the paperwork it's not a criminal charge it's it's a warning saying you can't come back here um all right my boss just texted to make sense so I've got to a make a phone call he's got to fill out paperwork for now I am going to put you in cuffs it doesn't mean you're going to jail I want to make a phone call my supervisor talk to about this but for now I need to set these things down real quick okay do you have anything sharp on you it's going to quote me or stick me anybody anybody else under your room now no the day before notest before they there was a lot of there it was my daughter I know I was at work I came I came back day last Tuesday or Monday we had a lady call in couple charges at Target on her card unapproved her daughter has a history of taking her card so she kind of had a feeling been her uh but Target couldn't provide the footage yet the time frame that she let her daugh daughter come by her house and borrow her car match the exact time frame that the card was used it was like 3-day period She came by the house borrowed the car um her purse and charge her purse and credit cards were not in the car but she would have had access to the house um would have had access access to the cards so that was last weekend I just did a initial report on it forwarded it then today she calls back in says that um target described the female in the footage to her match the description of her daughter of course they're not going to show up it us until we get us subpena but um she also has new Chargers on her card for a con Lodge so we come over here and it's the daughter of course she's at the hotel just tried to use her mom's credit card without her permission uh adult by the way um she gave excuses none of them checked out she said she had her mom's permission she also had her mom's ID in her purse uh asked her mom if she knew about that her her mother said no she should not have my ID uh no I've never put my credit card on any hotels and it's just obvious that she's using her mom's credit cards at least at the hotel we haven't proven Target yet of course she did not admit to using them that Target um her only excuse for the hotel was it was an accident so you said who the daughter said it was an accident that the card wasn't supposed to be used it was an automatic thing through the app I knew the mom said she's never part of the app she's never used the app she shouldn't be on the app and her card her credit card which she just replaced a month and a half ago for the same issues with her daughter uh is also on the app which should not be the daughter made it seem like they shared this app the mom's like I've never used that I don't use hotels I don't have any kind of apps or a car not be on any hotel apps so she's kind of like caught red-handed here at the hotel uh plus with the ID the possession of the ID that alone would be its own charge so Mom reported what uh I don't think so it's two years expired now I I didn't ask her that but I doubt it is yeah she said this has been going on for years and she's just it's about time she draws the line so she doesn't want to press charges oh yeah she's at work I did just talk to her a little bit ago she's over on Old cams yeah yep yeah I'm with it sounds good that's I was hoping to do I just wanted to run up by you and uh I'll let jackovich run by the mom's place to get that statement okay all right Hotel wants her trespass we're doing that now and then I'll get out of here all right I'll see you all right I just talked to my supervisor and you are going to be going today okay I'm going to be straightforward about that it's that's what we got to do later officers discovered that the store's surveillance system had been temporarily down preventing further Evidence collection to pursue charges related to that incident
