on June 27th 2023 a police officer noticed a vehicle being driven recklessly swerving out of its Lane on the road the erratic Behavior suggested the driver was not in control the situation escalated when the female driver collided with another vehicle resulting in an accident recognizing the severity of the incident the officer promptly initiated a traffic stop to investigate the circumstances leading to such dangerous driving hi thank I'm just going to have an ambulance come check the guys out make sure you're okay all right okay you're all right sweetie we're going to make sure you're okay all right um You have the the registration are you able to pull forward at or no yeah just just be careful cuz you got a lot of damage up there if if you can't just leave it where it's at there's damage up [Applause] there following the accident the officer brought a doctor to the scene to assess the driver's condition the doctor approached the female driver and inquired if she had sustained any injuries during the Collision the driver assured the doctor that she was uninjured and felt fine this step was crucial crucial to ensure the driver's well-being before any further actions were taken regarding the incident as the interaction continued the officer detected a strong smell of alcohol on the female driver's breath confirming suspicions that she was intoxicated it's all right her as part of the investigation however the driver quickly became uncooperative refusing to engage with the officer or address the situation calmly her resistance made it difficult for the officer to proceed with the investigation and assess the full extent of her intoxication based on the female driver's physical appearance and behavior it became evident to the officer that she was intoxicated to confirm this suspicion the officer directly asked the driver if she had been drinking the driver admitted that she was indeed drunk confirming the officer's observations is it in there yeah it's all right we we'll grab it just wait right here just wa right here I'm going to have you sign refusal for your daughter okay yeah I can leave with my brother can we just leave like that's up to the cops it's not up to me okay okay just give us one second right signing for your daughter saying that she don't want her to go to the hospital okay oh my God where's the guy's your name to drink T my show listen I can smell alcohol on you so you had had things had something to drink tonight what how much have you had to drink um a margarita a single drink yeah okay the officer aiming to assess the level of the female driver's intoxication decided to conduct several sobriety tests test the officer then instructed the female driver to perform some field sobriety tests such as the walk and turn test this test required her to walk in a straight line heel to toe and then turn around and return in the same manner however the driver struggled to maintain her balance stumbling and failing to follow the instructions accurately all right we're going to do uh a couple psychophysical tests just to prove that you can walk and that you were able to drive yeah all right I should have told you that I'm sorry I'm scared right now this is like scary I'm sorry I'm scared right now like my like this guy hit me in the car okay come over here all right don't you stand right here right here all right all right so we're going to do a test all right it's called the walk and turn all right so once you follow these instructions very closely all right don't do them until I tell you to all right when I tell you to you're going to first put your left foot on the line we're going to create an imaginary line all right or you you can even use this crack right here whatever you want to do whatever works for you all right all right you're going to put your left foot on the line all right you're going to place yeah go ahead put it over here yeah am all right you're going to put your left foot on the line yeah and then you're going to go with your heel of your right foot against the toe of your left foot so you're going to put your heel or your right not yet just follow me you're fine okay so just like I just did your left foot is on the line then you're going to place the heel right there okay on the toe okay do not start until I tell you to you understand this so far okay good when I tell you to begin I want you to take nine Heel To Toe steps all right on the line then take nine Heel To Toe steps back so you're going to do nine steps forward and then nine steps back all right um Ure that you look at all right Ure you look at your feet count each step out loud keep your arms at your side so you're going to keep them here right here see where see how I have them okay make sure you touch your heel to your toe and do not stop until you completed the test all right nine Heel To Toe steps begin okay turn around okay go ahead and begin again keep your hands to your side okay all right following the walk and turn test the police officer proceeded with another field sobriety test the one leg stand the female driver was instructed to stand on one leg while keeping the other foot raised off the ground a task that requires both balance and coordination unfortunately she was unable to maintain her balance and failed this test as well further demonstrating her impaired state after arresting the female driver the officers placed her inside their veh vehicle and transported her to the police headquarters called the one-legged stand test all right so go Ahad and stand right here right here yep that's fine okay all right I want you to stand with your feet together just like this yeah all right and your arms at your side all right you see it just like that I want you to maintain this position until told otherwise okay when I tell you I want you to raise your one of your legs either does not matter approximately 6 in off the ground foot pointed outward both legs all right we'll get you back there I know we'll get you back upon arrival they secured her in a holding area and initiated a formal investigation the officer began questioning her to gather more details about her actions leading up to the incident her level of intoxication and any other relevant information during the investigation the woman revealed that she was a teacher and attempted to fabricate a dramatic story in an effort to avoid facing charges her goal was to deflect attention and evade responsibility for her actions despite her efforts to manipulate the situation the focus remained on addressing her impaired driving and the potential consequences of her behavior the officer repeatedly urged the female driver to calm down and wait for her brother to arrive and pick up her child the officer made it clear that despite her distress she would still face charges for her actions the emphasis was on maintaining composure while acknowledging that legal consequences were unavoidable due to her impaired driving you know that right you you were turning though he was going straight yeah mhm the person driving straight has the right away um you want take that Locker keep you wouldn't have to I me really a lot of times listen a lot of times what they're doing now what they're doing now is everything is via Zoom okay now I would I suggest you do I can't come back here like I'm leaving in Tuesday I can't it's going to be really hard for me to come back here to New Jersey cuz I'm I live in and you're going to tell that to Kelly Blanchett she is the prosecutor name's Kelly Blanchett all right she's she's the prosecutor she handles all of the the traffic and DUI stuff for Atlantic City all right she's the prosecutor you'll explain this to her and she's probably going to allow you to do the hearing and everything via Zoom you can do it oh what do I have to just like what do I have to do like at me look at me like so you're a teacher so you're a teacher right so you're so what I'm saying is this you're probably not going to be able to afford a or they're probably not going to prove you for a public defender you're probably going to have to get if you if you want to in any way if how do I put this like you're going to talk to prosecutor if you don't like what she has to say or the deal maybe that she'll offer or whatever they do right then then I'm not going to teach anymore no then you're going to have to get an attorney and you have to get a d attorney I'm a union they don't do attorneys I'm Union like trust me I've said through it before like it's a different it's a collective bargaining agreement like they okay let me let me explain to this you with with New Jersey there is no automatic license revocation in New Jersey if that's what you're concerned about if you're concerned about getting your license taken away that doesn't happen I'm not concerned about I'm just concerned about having to appear here like I live in California and I'm trying to explain to you and I teach kids with disability like I'm not trying to justify anything but I'm saying this is a really like what am I and and you say she's a really nice lady but I can't tell her what to do I'm saying based off my experience she's probably going to allow you to do it via Zoom allow me to do what via Zoom the the first hearing and you know speak with the judge and everything they do it via Zoom now I can't tell you how many they allow what via Zoom like the actual court hearing like the judge the prosecutor you you're all on Zoom now the only time that I've really dealt with where you have to be in person now is like a uh is like a superior court which this is not this is Municipal Court you understand it's smaller so this is like the city court it's not a big deal if if you committed a crime you would have to go to like Superior Court where no yeah yeah you understand so but but I don't live here so so am I not making sense by Tuesday I'm you're you're saying it's via Zoom but so what is a jurist what am I going to have to do in California for this when you're when you Jersey hearing like what am I going to have to do so I cannot guarantee you that every single hearing can be Zoom if I had to think so listen let you're not letting me get this I understand what you're saying they can either the judge can either say but you don't see what I what I understand there's there's my perspective like listen I understand this is your job imagine your job is uh-huh mine uh-huh back home okay like okay so I I'll explain it to you I'll explain it what you did was you conducted a leftand turn you were the Turning vehicle you had a green light the other guy had a green light you conduct to the left hand turn to try and get on to 30 right turnning vehicle is responsible for that turn they own that list to me where is he where he's fine because at the end of the day the Turning vehicle when you turn you're owning that turn you're responsible for that turn it's the same way in California I'm sure you know that you were responsible for that turn what happened is a motor vehicle collision happened okay and at that point I showed up got EMS saying you're drunk I can see that you're drunk you have your daughter in the back seat do you think that I am what do you think I'm supposed to do at that point I'm not I'm not say what what am I do you know it's not going to be for me to go home what what am I going to do now that you charge me a drun do you know what that's like you know you know what that does to me do you know what that does to me I'm going to tell you this my friend you just said really but do you know what that does to me no we still have we still have police officers on this department that have gotten DUIs that have fought it and now and they're still cops I'm telling you that well they're cops no no they went they went to court and everything cops I mean no firefighters I've seen it too I've seen it with a few things all right this is not the end of the world I'm telling you it's not at least from my experience like you're but you are say you're your daughter was in the back of the car you're such a [ __ ] piece of [ __ ] just say it I don't think that what I'm saying is it was an irresponsible thing that occurred there are recourses for that there are consequences okay they're not severe consequences but they are they I wouldn't say they're they're they're definitely Stern and there's a process for that I'm going to lose my license no there's no there's no license revocation in New Jersey I just told you that first offense there's no license revocation I can't be here for a hearing like I live I I've explained this enough already I really went over it with you all right this is that is how they've been doing every single first appearance so what are they going to say to me I don't that's where I don't know I'm not an attorney I wish I was but I'm not so I should get an teacher and not have to worry about when he gets back we'll do that like seriously like I don't I don't like you're doing your job you you and I thank you for that you're keeping us safe I just I
