I don't >> Okay, well, you do have to leave. They want you to leave. >> HAVE TO LEAVE. >> SHOW ME THEN. SHOW ME THEN. >> SHOW ME THEN. >> ALL RIGHT. >> NOT WORSHIPPING YOU MOTHER LISTEN. >> On June 21st, police were called to a gym after a woman brought a sleeping bag inside and refused to leave. When officers tried to get her out, she became hostile and combative, turning a simple trespassing situation into a physical confrontation. The officers had to take her into custody and she ended up facing several serious charges. Well, let's take a look. >> No. >> Yeah, so she slept outside the building [clears throat] from 10:30 to when I opened the doors up this morning at 7:00. She scared the crap out of me. So, she was in the bathroom, she showered, she was in there for 3 hours, then she's been wandering the building, she's not on any equipment. I went in the locker room to ask her to leave. She's laying on the bench with her sleeping bag sleeping. >> She's still here? >> Yeah. So, I want her trespassed. She does have a locker here. >> Okay. >> She needs to clear out her locker, too, and be gone. >> um >> Hey. Reagan Rider? >> That's her name. >> That's her name. I have to see your ID. >> I know what my name >> But when we confronted her, she got pretty agitated. >> Yeah, that's okay. We'll get her out of here one way or another. Come on, Danielle. Danielle, you want >> know what my name is? >> Do you know >> How do you know >> a locker? >> is? >> Do you got a locker? >> How did you know what my name was? >> Do you got a locker? >> How did you know what my name was? THEY DON'T CLOSE UNTIL 5:00. >> THEY WANT YOU TRESPASSED. IT DOESN'T MATTER. DOESN'T MATTER. They refused you service. >> No, they didn't. >> Okay, well, you're going to leave. You got to leave. OKAY? >> I DON'T >> WHERE'S your locker? WHERE'S YOUR LOCKER? >> I DON'T >> OKAY, WELL, you do have to leave. They want you to leave. >> to leave. >> Okay, well, yes, you do. >> No, I don't. >> sit here and argue about it all day, but at the end of the day, you're leaving. >> I'M GOING TO DO THEN. SHOW ME >> DO NOT. >> SHOW ME THEN. >> ALL RIGHT. LISTEN. KNOCK IT OFF. Why are you doing this? >> Show me. >> Why are you doing this? Knock it off. Why are you doing this? >> YOU CAN'T YELL IN MY FACE. >> WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS? STOP. HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK. STOP. >> STOP. >> What are you doing? Knock it off. >> Y'all will not take my strength from me. >> Stop. >> You know what this means. >> All right. You're good. Just We're good now. We're good. We're not trying to do all this to you. But you're not You're not helping us here. >> Get off of me. Get off of me. >> A business or a property manager can generally ask someone to leave private property depending on local law and the person's right to be there. If someone refuses after clearly being told to leave, police may investigate whether trespassing occurred. And under statutory property and public order [snorts] laws, once a business revokes license to enter, refusing to leave instantly transforms a civil disagreement into a criminal trespass. Under statutory property laws and established criminal trespass standards, >> [music] >> um commercial establishments retain full legal authority to revoke permission for anyone to remain on private premises at any time. The state courts consistently reject arguments that open to the public businesses cannot deny entry or request police enforcement. When an individual refuses explicit instructions to vacate after notice and subsequently [music] becomes combative or physically resists responding officers, state law provides police complete legal authorization to execute an immediate custodial arrest for criminal trespass, resisting an officer, and battery on law enforcement. >> Don't let this go on. >> Double locking. >> Okay. >> All right. relax. Relax. >> Let me go. >> No, not now. >> I don't need my script. >> Does she squirt or what? >> I don't need my script. >> She can't squirt out with you. She's going to get you. >> Yeah, yeah. >> That's all right. >> That's actually >> Get off of me. >> Okay. We're going to Knock it off. >> No. No. No. >> Completely unnecessary. >> No, it's not. >> Yes, it was. >> No, it's not. Get off of me. >> She had that rock in her hand and everything, didn't she? Knock it off. Knock it off. >> Get off of me. Get off of me. >> If you act right, maybe we will. But you're not acting right. >> Get off of me. >> Now we're going to have a seat in the squad. Cuz you're not acting right. Come on, Danielle. >> No. >> There's no reason for it. Stop. Stop kicking. I think I Yeah, that's everything. You know, all they know is how to react and act out. She doesn't seem to know how to deal with what she's feeling. So, she yells, she makes threats, and she's just blaming everyone else. Honestly, it's sad to watch. >> STOP FOLLOWING ME. >> Knock it the [ __ ] off. Go back to the car. >> All right, you're fine. We got it. Just relax. We got it. Breathe. Take a breath. It's going to be okay. >> What are you going to do 15-3 with her? >> For a minute. Did it stop? Go ahead and turn. Make sure the things are tight. >> She got a cuff slip. I DAMN SURE AIN'T GOING TO CALM DOWN UP IN HERE. I WANT TO FIGHT THEM. I WANT TO CUZ I AM. THE MINUTE THEY TAKE THESE [ __ ] cuffs off me. >> What's wrong with this woman? She's honestly scary. You know, in prison you get meals, a place to shower, and a place to sleep. You even meet other inmates. This isn't about mental health, you know, it looks more like entitlement. Offended by everything, ashamed of nothing, entitled to everything, and contributing nothing. >> So this what is fixing to end. So I want y'all to shoot me [ __ ] down. Shoot me down. SHOOT ME DOWN. CUZ I KNOW EXACTLY WHO DID IT. SHOOT ME DOWN. RIGHT HERE. SHOOT ME [ __ ] DOWN. STOP FOLLOWING ME. DOING NOTHING FOR THEM [ __ ] I'M GOING TO FIGHT THEM. THAT'S THE FIRST THING I'M GOING TO DO. TRYING TO BUST THAT [ __ ] FACE OPEN. WON'T YOU? IT'S THE MAIN [ __ ] one. Try to use my strength. See, this is what's fixing to happen. I don't give a [ __ ] ABOUT NO TASING. I DON'T GIVE A [ __ ] ABOUT NO TASING. TURN IT ON SO YOU CAN YOUR ASS. TURN THEM ON. TURN THEM ON. TURN THEM ON. TURN THEM ON. DON'T GET IN MY FACE FOR MY [ __ ] DON'T TOUCH ME, [ __ ] DON'T TOUCH ME. DO NOT TOUCH ME. DON'T TOUCH ME. DON'T TOUCH ME. DON'T YOU TOUCH ME. DON'T TOUCH ME. DON'T TOUCH ME. DON'T TOUCH ME. CUZ IT'S YOU. DON'T TOUCH ME. DON'T TOUCH ME. >> She seems genuinely dangerous, and needs to be kept away from other people for a long time. And the way she was acting looked almost possessed. You know, the cops were actually very calm, and didn't seem like they were trying to hurt her. She clearly had a lot of anger though, and everyone needed to stop adding fuel to the fire. Well, the suspect faces charges for criminal trespassing, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and battery on an officer. This situation just shows how a small problem can become much bigger when emotions take over. Being told to leave a business may be frustrating, but yelling, fighting, or resisting officers can lead to additional charges, and make the situation much worse. Strong anger can make people react before they think. When someone feels embarrassed, angry, or challenged, they may start blaming others instead of calming down and dealing with the situation. Now, that does not excuse aggressive behavior, but it can explain, or it can help explain why some encounters kept getting worse. Well, the officers also appear to stay fairly calm while dealing with her. You know, when someone becomes physical, officers have to focus on safety and getting the person under control. The biggest lesson is simple. Know when to walk away. Refusing to leave private property is one problem. Turning it into a physical fight can create several more. Well, what do you think? Did she make the situation just much worse by resisting? [music] Or could the officers have handled it differently? Well, drop your opinion in the comments.
