Today on Alpha Responder Network. Did you hear? Okay. All right. We're not going to do this. How much weed have you smoked tonight? We're coming pretty fast. That's why I got on it the way I did. You have no guns or anything in here, right? All right. Cool. Hang tight. Join us as we ride along with the nation's bravest alpha responders. This is Alpha Responder Network. [Music] This was St. Patrick's Day weekend. Obviously, you're going to assume that people are probably indulging in some alcoholic beverages. Anytime that you have an accident, sure, weather can be a contributing factor to it. Uh but sometimes, uh impairment is also, you know, what what plays a big portion of it. Arizona Adam Young Baker Charlie King checked him for impairment. This one they're saying he's coming this way fish tail and [ __ ] basically actually comes around. Okay. And this gentleman here. Yeah. 29. When you get on scene obviously your first obligation is to to check all passengers, make sure that nobody's injured. uh anybody needs medical attention, immediate medical attention that we can start providing uh on scene. Once you've realized or established that people don't need any medical emergency or a medical services, uh then you start trying to figure out exactly what happened. All right, walk over here. Talk to me. It's cool. What's going on? Um nothing. I just driving and lost. Okay. I turned out of this this street right here and then somebody was coming on me a little bit. So, I got on it. I lost control and I drifted and [ __ ] hit him. So, okay. All righty. Uh, where which uh street did you pull out of? This the the closest street right here on the right hand side. Yep. Okay. So, you pulled out of there. Pulled out left. Somebody was coming. So, gave a little bit of gas. Yep. I gave you were coming pretty fast. That's why I got on it the way I did. And when I crashed, they kept going, too. Okay. So, I was kind of hoping that they would stay, but they didn't stay. Okay. Oh, you mean the car that was kind of going kind of fast? Yeah. Okay. Cuz I was hoping like they would have tested they were coming pretty quick, but I highly doubted that. Okay. So, they took off and All right. You had anything to drink tonight? Uh, yeah. I just left a bachelor party. I had like three beers. The only reason I'm asking is cuz your eyes are super glossy. So, I'm just Did your airbags go off or anything? No. Okay. I wasn't going that fast, dude. I was going like 20 miles. It only takes 5 lbs of pressure for your actual airbags to go. Yeah. I didn't hit that part. Okay. I mean, it looks crazy, but I you might say, "I feel so dumb, dude." Honestly, that's all it is. And was it just you? Was she with you? Yeah, she was. She was with you. Okay. Just the two of you? No kids or anything in the car? No, it's a two-door, so nobody fits with us. It's just us two. Okay. Um I lost control. I slid and hit him. And that's all there is to it, All right. Did you already give them your license and all that good stuff? No, they started crying and kind of started to kind of get the the other deputy. Did you give him his license your license or anything yet? No. No. Let me see your license. Okay. And then the registration insurance is that all in your truck or on your phone? It's all in the truck. All in the truck. Okay. Uh is there any guns or anything in your truck? Not at all. Nothing. All right. Just saying that right here for a second. Hey, no, man. So, the only gentleman are these two are from this car. They good? Yeah, we're good. Okay, cool. And then if they were good. All right. So, because you have been drinking Yep. And I obviously seen your eyes. I just got to make sure that you're not like over the legal limit. Okay. So, I got to put you through field sobriety test just like I would anybody else. Okay. They're both You want to go stand over there for me? Appreciate it. Uh I guess prior to our arrival, they had a little bit of a uh confrontation right after the accident, which tends to happen. Uh and then through the course of that, that's when they let the first traffic deputy that show up know that they believe that that subject may uh be impaired. Just three. Were they mixed drinks, beers? Uh they were mixed drinks. Okay. But I've been here since 4:30. Okay. And just the three over that that time. Yeah, I've had three over that time. They're mixed drinks. So, um, what were they? Literally right down the street. So, I figured it there to there. Three minute drive home. Gotcha. All righty. Do me a favor. Stand on that white line and then face No, face me. You're going to face me. Perfect. Just going to put your feet together like that. Perfect. All right. Are you wearing contacts right now? Yep. Okay. So, for this test, it's just looking at your eyes. You can blink as much as you need to. It doesn't affect the test. Okay. Just let you know, man. I'm pretty nervous right now. I wrecked my truck. I understand. I completely understand. So, it wouldn't matter how super nervous you are. It's just your eyeballs. I'm literally just looking at your eyeballs right now. Okay? So, uh there's basically five tests that I'm going to put you through. Uh make sure if you have any questions, you stop me and ask me anytime. That way, I know you know exactly what you're supposed to be doing. Okay? Some of these I'm just going to give you verbal instructions. Some of them I'll give you verbal and actually demonstrate it for you. But again, please make sure you ask if you have any questions. Okay. Other than this one, have you had any car crashes or head injuries in the last 48 hours? No. This is my first accident like this at all. Okay. All right. And how fast do you think you were going when you actually wrecked? 20. 20. Uh, like I said, I pulled out and then somebody was behind me and I got on it and I spun this way, this way, tried to catch this way and then boom. And were they coming just down the road or were they turning out? No. Oh, dude. Not even sure. They were coming down. Okay. Okay. Perfect. Yeah. Okay. All right. So, just put your hands down at your side just like you are right there. So, this little green light, we're going to go back and forth in front of your face like this. Just like you were doing right there. You're going to follow that green light with your eyes, but you're going to keep your head straight. Okay? It's like this. Just back and forth. Sometimes it's going to stay out here. Just look at it as as long as you can. And if you like, again, if you need to blink, you can blink. It doesn't affect the test. Okay? Dude, I'm sorry. There's rain landing in my eye. All right. Blink your eyes a couple times. Just get some fluid back in there. So, the position that you're in right there, what you're going to do is when I tell you to, you're going to close your eyes. You're going to tilt your head backwards. You're going to think of 30 seconds. Once you think 30 seconds has passed, you bring your head back forward, open your eyes, and say stop. Okay? Can I use my fingers or for what to uh No, you got to do it in your head. Snatch. All right. Go ahead. Close your eyes. Tilt your head back and begin. All right. How much time is that? 30 seconds. Perfect. And how'd you get there? Just counting one, two, three, Mississippi, sheeps. One Mississippi, two Mississippi. All righty. All right. So, go ahead and come stand right here for me. So, when I tell you to, what you're going to do is you're going to take nine heel totoe steps touching heel to toe on each step. Once you get to number nine, whatever lead foot you have planted, you'll take a series of short choppy steps, get back on the line, and then take nine heel totoe steps back down this line. You understand those instructions? Anything you need me to repeat for you? All right. On you. All right, hang tight just a second. All right, man. Last thing. We're just going to take a real deep breath and just blow air through the straw that direction. Okay, deep breath and blow. Keep going. Keep going. Keep going. Keep going. Keep going. Keep going. Keep going. Keep going. All right. So, do you know what the legal limit is in the state? 08. 08. You're just over. Oh, man. So, go ahead and put your hands on your back for me. All right. Anything on you that you want to give to her? Uh, wallet or anything? Yeah, my wallet. So, we don't have to hold on to it right now. Can you tell? So, that's I'm I got it. I'll come get you. Well, you've been drinking, too. You're not going to I haven't drank as much. You're not going to come. I'm telling you right now. From standing right here, you're not in any better shape. So, have just somebody that has not been drinking at all like with the road conditions and everything. Huh? No, babe. Just stop. You're not helping this. All right. You're going to go with this gentleman right here behind me. Okay. And like I said, I'm going to find out where to pick me up. Absolutely. Absolutely. So, what's going on? So, I'm going to try to find out if we can Is this who you wanted to release the truck to? Yes. Okay. So, I'm going to find out if we can just release the truck to you instead of having it towed since it's somewhat drivable still. Uh, and then if it is, we'll just release it to you. He's going to be arrested for DUI. We're going to process him down at our command post. So, cuz we're actually doing a DUI detail this weekend, okay, in the Walmart parking lot. So, once we're all done with everything, he doesn't have to spend the night in jail. You guys, somebody that's sobered that hasn't been drinking at all can come down and pick him up. They just have to sign a a release form saying that you're going to take responsibility for him and not let him operate a vehicle until he's sober. Yes, sir. Okay. So, let me go find out about the truck and then we'll we'll get things going. Okay. Appreciate it. Yep. Oh, no. They're laughing. They're laughing. You sure? They're not They're not laughing. Okay. All the things. Yeah. Did you hear? If you're a business owner, listen up. The sponsor of this video, Crimshield, helps protect your business by letting you know exactly who is working for you. Their thorough background checks on your applicants keep criminals out of your business and you out of the courtroom. Go to crimshell.com and protect your company today. Did you hear he was clean? Okay. All right. We're not going to do this. So now you guys are going to go back over there away from the scene. I know. So after the driver uh had been placed under arrest for DUI. Uh he was secured in one of the patrol vehicles. So I was speaking with the deputy that was going to be assigned to investigate the actual traffic collision itself uh and find out if he needed any additional assistance before I left to process the DUI. Uh while talking to him, uh I began to hear a commotion behind me. So we turned around and now the people that were in the second vehicle were now involved in a verbal confrontation with the female passenger um of basically the the vehicle that caused the car accident. So I'm assuming she was probably upset that her husband boyfriend was now under arrest for DUI. Um but somehow the two of them ended up getting into a uh a verbal confrontation. I went over there just to try to keep the peace between everybody. Uh the occupants of the the black vehicle, I had them go stand across the street on the sidewalk. And then ultimately the female passenger from the other truck was uh escorted away with a gentleman that was going to take custody of that vehicle. We're not doing this. This is not what we're doing. Things happen. All right. Accidents happen. We're taking care of it. We don't need things to get worse. Absolutely. All right. Do you guys want to stand on the sidewalk or over there in the grass? Whatever's easier. Now, I got them out of here. So, Thought I had to give him. So, if you guys want to go sit in your car, um, as soon as Nardelli is done right here, he'll get you all the information for the accident stuff, and I'm going to go back and deal with Mr. DUI guy. Okay. He's he's uh he's 100% right. Uh, just barely. So, he's according to this, he's an 084, which these are not 100% accurate, which So, he's just It depends. I'm going go back and do some more things back there. So, okay. All right. Yep. All right. Thanks. 123. Move to cancel real quick. Hello. Hi. Any reason we're going 70? So I was tired in the Dodge. You're tired? Yeah. And we live right here. So I was just trying to get here. When we conducted this traffic stop, uh this vehicle was uh doing about 70 mph uh in a posted 50 and then it drops down to 45 mph speed limit zone. So I'd actually got the both vehicles on there was two vehicles at the time. Um, both of them were on radar at 70. So, I flipped around, got behind both of them when the speed reduced to 45. One of the vehicles actually did slow a little bit. Um, but this vehicle continued uh at 70 mph. How much weed have you smoked tonight? This car reeks of weed standing right here. When I spent my time at K9, uh, they always talk about how the wind the wind is your best friend when it comes to odors. So I always try to pay attention to which way the wind is blowing and if it's so in that like in that situation if the wind had been blowing the opposite direction I probably would have tried to go approach on the passenger side just so that I can get that wind to blow through the through the cab of the vehicle. So that way you can see if uh you know if get any of the odors that way. So but the way the wind was blowing that night especially with the rain soon as you walked up and the windows were down it just right out right out through that driver side window. I haven't smoked tonight. I was just getting home from Have you been drinking too? No, I haven't. No. Do you normally talk that slow or is that cuz of how much weed you've smoked? No. Low cuz you pulled me over, sir. I've never been pulled over. Okay. Well, I'm telling you right now, this car absolutely reeks of marijuana. Burnt marijuana. I know. Today it wasn't smoked, but it was No, you were smoking in here tonight. I'm telling you. I can smell it right here. Like, don't lie to me. Like you can literally there's a difference between raw marijuana and burnt marijuana and smoke coming out of your car. Right. Those are all We weren't smoking right now. Huh? We weren't smoking. I didn't say I'm said you have been smoking recently because of how strong the odor is coming out of your car. That's what I'm saying. Okay. That's probably why you were doing 70 in a 50 and 45 mph speed zone back there, too. 2006. You're not even old enough to smoke weed. This your Whose car is it? Your dad's car. Arizona. That's your car. Okay. You have no guns or anything in here, right? All right. Cool. Hang tight. So, some of the questions that we ask uh before we walk away from the vehicle the first time is, hey, is there any guns, knives, weapons, anything in this car that could hurt us? Obviously, we don't want to be back at our vehicle, you know, conducting driver's license checks and warrant checks while they have the the chance to be loading a firearm there and and, you know, use harm against us while we're sitting in our vehicle. So I asked both female driver and male passenger uh which actually this car belonged to the male passenger. Uh so I asked both of them, hey any guns, knives in the car? Uh and both of them told me no. Do you hear how slow she was talking? Oh yeah. All right. So how do you say your name? Is it all right? Hop on now for me. We're going to have some We're going to chitchat back here. Now is the time to be honest with me. All right. When was the last time you smoked marijuana? I want to say I'll talk for last month. Back here with me. like a little over last month. Last month. Yes. And I'm not going to lie cuz we were just talking. He has smoked today and he has smoked in the car. He's over 21. I have not smoked as tonight. Okay. And I'm being honest. Yes, I have smoked marijuana in the past. I'm not lying about that. Okay. I So, do you honestly think like I would believe that you have not smoked weed in the car if he's going to be smoking weed with you in the car that you're not going to smoke it? No. He was smoking it earlier when I got with So what I am telling you right now is you have been you guys have been smoking weed in this car within at least the last 2 hours because of how strong that odor is coming out of there. Okay. Okay. So that's what I'm telling you. So and I want to explain something to you. Okay. I have specialized training what's called drug recognition expert. Okay. Which means I can tell when somebody's under the influence of drugs a lot easier than some other police or deputies. Okay. Well, I'm not going to lie to you. I'm pretty scared too. Okay. So, I'll ask you one more time. When was the last time you smoked marijuana? I saw in 2016. Within a week. Like this with like within this week. How Okay. So, let's say how about when's the last time you smoked weed today? How many hours has it been? Uh I hit a pin like a while ago, but I did not I haven't smoked about two hours ago. Less than two hours ago, I would say. Just by looking at you, that's what I would assume. Am I right? No. Is it can may I ask why? So when you are under the influence of drugs any person they exhibit uh certain indicators right clinical symptoms uh signs and symptoms those are things that we look for okay when I'm talking to you right now your eyes are red okay they're they're glossy can but can I ask can I tell may I ask why about that because I want I knew I immediately knew when you had those moment if I was high I knew you were going to indicate my eyes but I just got my lashes done and my I mean I have messages too of the girl asking if my eyes are burning cuz I mean the last was burning me. So So what I'm telling you is there's indicators, right? I'm not saying that every single time that your eyes are red that means you smoked weed or you've drank alcohol. What I'm saying is that is a common indicator of somebody that's smoked drugs or drank alcohol. Okay, in this situation because the car smells like extremely burnt weed. A reasonable person would believe that you are probably smoking marijuana based off of what I'm seeing in your face. Okay. Again, that's why I also asked about your speech if you normally talk this slow because that is also a sign and symptoms of impairment is slow speech and slow reaction to certain questions. That's why I'm asking you. Like most of the questions I'm going to ask you, I kind of know the answer to. I'm just wanting to see if we're going to be on the same page with this situation. Honestly, I do want to be totally honest. I have nothing to hide. I'm just I'm just being honest with you. This is my first time being put over and I am scared. Like on 24 hours. Do you know how much weed you're allowed to have in your body when you're driving? Uh, no. Not on the top of my head. You zero. Well, yeah. Me, too. Cuz you're not even 21. Even him. 21. Zero. You cannot have any marijuana in your body while you operate a motor vehicle. Active ingredients. Marijuana. Okay. So, are you that cold? What's What's going on? Freezing, sir. I have a crock top underneath here. Yeah. We got a sweater on. At least sweater and pants. So, all right. So, this is what we're going to do. I'm going to put you through field sobriety testing just like I would do anybody else that was drinking alcohol or smoking marijuana. Okay? There's five tests. They're divided detention tests. Okay? I'm going to put you through these. If I see signs and symptoms of impairment, well, obviously we'll deal with that at the end. If not, we'll figure out how to get you guys home safely. But you got to try to calm down a little bit because you're you're going to totally screw yourself up just because of how bad you're shaking. Okay? So, just breathe, chill out. All right? Some of this is nerves because you're you're nervous about what's going on right now. Uh, some of these are these are actually called body trimmers, which can happen too when you when you have an adrenaline dump because of what's going on. This is this is kind of also what happens as well. If you were just standing here right now bullshitting with your with your boyfriend over here, you probably wouldn't be shaking like this. But this is this is kind of something that happens. All right, so let's get started. Okay, hold on. Let me kill these lights. I'm going just zip on my pants cuz you do what you got to do, girl. You were eating. Why were Why were your pants unbuttoned if you were eating? I'm full. Oh, okay. I got you. Got you. Okay. I just want to make sure we were all on the same page with that as well. Okay. We weren't even doing any weird stuff. So, let's get started. Go ahead and look at the green light for me. Okay. You were like, you see how bad you're swaying right now? Yeah. We can't we just take a breath. The last girl that I did this to that had fake lashes, they hung so far down. Have a brush that I usually that when she when she was standing like this, you couldn't even see her eyeballs. That's how far they I was like that's like looking through a bunch of like because you have to wash them and you gota like you have have to have a brush handy cuz that's also I'm not going to hers also like hers are also probably like this long too. So yep and we are going to go left. All right. So here's what's going to happen. You are being placed under arrest for DUI. Okay. Because you have obviously smoked marijuana tonight. All right. Super. you have a ton of signs and symptoms of impairment. Um, you absolutely should not be driving a motor vehicle. Okay? Probably why you were doing 70 and a 45 and 70 and a 50 back there where the speed limit is because that's one of the first things that happens. People speed. Okay? So, what's going to happen is we have a command post that's set up over by the Walmart parking lot. We're going to take you over there. We'll process you. Once we're all done, somebody that's sober that has no impairment can come and get you or if you have money, you can take an Uber. But we can't obviously he's not going to come and get you. He's also not going to be able to take this car. Somebody's going to have to come and get this car or something's going to happen with it. Okay. Um I've never been like this, but could you like uh just explain like what I need to do? Yeah. So, what's going to happen is we're going to take your cell phone with you. That way, if you need to call an attorney, you can call an attorney. So, we're going to go back to our command post. Once I get there, I'm going to read you a bunch of paperwork. Once we're all done, I'll explain everything else to you. And like I said, somebody that's sober, that has no impairment, has not been smoking weed, can come and pick you up. Can they pick me up tonight or have Tonight? Yep. No, you do not have to spend the night in jail. Okay. All right. So, turn around, put your hands on your back for me. Can you record me? Yeah, go ahead. You have family over here. Okay, perfect. Yes, it's uh on my driver's seat. Okay. Good. You're the innocent one, huh? Aren't you? You're the little innocent one back here. a secondary deputy showed up to assist us and he approached the passenger uh and started just a general conversation with him. Uh and then he decided to let that deputy know that he did in fact have a gun in the vehicle and that it was underneath the passenger seat. Never been to prison, right? Not a convicted felon or anything. Perfect. Hey, so I'm going to put this in the trunk. Yeah. Once we're all gone, whoever comes and gets your car and stuff, then you can do what you want. Just nothing until we get out of here. Okay. Yeah. You going to transport her? Yeah. Will you hang out here until that somebody gets here to take this car? Someone's coming for Yeah. From just right here in Johnson Ranch. Yeah. And then as soon as Bella Vista. Yeah. Walmart. Oh, it's at Walmart now. It's at the Walmart. Drove by earlier. I didn't see it. Yeah. Um It's a big white It's a big white and gray bus. Well, I'm sorry. I was out there doing actual comp. [Music] [Music]
