all right guys welcome back to another episode of the Alfred responder podcast I'm here with one of my most favorite people I've spent a lot of time in his vehicle with him fighting crime Deputy Cooper Stubblefield what's up bro how's it going thanks for having me dude thanks for being here I know you had to tr travel a good distance to be here yeah absolutely so I appreciate it worth the trip you know we're switching it up now I'm coming to you instead of you coming up the mountain to me but happy to be here thanks for having me of course dude well I know you were uh you're down here uh doing your photomy stuff yep um is that a remind me that is that an annual thing you've got to do that's every two years every two years two years yep and uh he he's got the uh he's got the marks to show it practicing on yourself or uh how what is that like you got to essentially prove that you're still uh you know what you're doing yeah just showing Proficiency in front of an instructor and they want to keep it as a as you know an accredited and standardized program that you know still Bears weight so just showing that you're still competent and know what you're doing so then we get to be the pin cushions while we're doing it so absolutely I don't know man I that that scares me I hate needles so much um but dude let's start with uh I know everyone knows you by now but uh who do you work for um and uh what is your primary uh job what is it your job in tell yeah absolutely uh I work for the Navajo County Sheriff's Office I work uh in the Pine Top Lake site area of Navajo County and the White Mountain area which is my favorite place in all of Arizona I found out um but yeah my primary duty is just to patrol Deputy um I love working Patrol I love being a street cop and I love you know being autonomous about working Patrol and you kind of dictate you know how your day goes or sometimes the radio dictates how your day goes but that's that's the fun of the job dude I think Patrol is one of my favorite things um being able to go out with you and uh you're actively looking for stuff um you're being proactive and you are one of the most proactive deputies I've ever met you are constantly looking you're not just sitting there chilling waiting waiting for things to happen you're out and you're searching for it yeah uh it's again that's that's the best part of the job right there is is going out and finding it right and everybody wants to be a cop for one reason or another but I want to be a cop cuz I want to chase bad guys drive cars fast and do cool stuff and yeah uh when you're proactive that that's what you get to do you get to you get to go get those bad guys and drive fast and and do just cool stuff so it's it's the highlight of the job and it's it's what I've wanted to do and want to do every day I don't have a bad day at work usually oh I love that I love that uh actually I want to talk about that so what got you into law I know as a at a young age you wanted to be a cop right right um typical you know four five-year-old kid I want to be a cop and everybody to a degree thought oh he's going to grow out of it cuz what four or five-year-old doesn't want to be a you know Soldier cop or firefighter but cop was always my thing uh never grew out of it just always always wanted to do it and that was a path I saw for myself and um I I don't see myself doing anything else more than happy doing what I'm doing and continuing what I'm doing that's cool man uh remind me how long have you been with uh Navajo County I'm coming up on two years with Navajo County and uh prior to that I worked for a city police agency that was a lot bigger than Navajo County but they're I'm very grateful for my experience there um a lot of exposure kind of you know jump in you know and you're either going to sink or swim but it I think it really help me um but I love where I work uh great leadership super PR active or super pro proactive I guess what what I should say is leadership and admin there and they're all about it you know getting the bad guys off the street and and having fun it's a family oriented environment and they're all about you know having fun and being proactive and great place to work for and great Sheriff to work for oh dude I can I can attest that man I've said before that Navajo County uh sheriff's office has always made us feel like family they have always believed in what we do um they've they opened us with open arms they opened us they welcomed us with open arms um just everything about in CSO is the best man we we truly feel like family there yeah I'm glad you guys feel that way I mean I consider you're a close friend like I said we've we've uh we've spent a lot of time together and a lot of lot of memories you know a lot of crazy stuff a lot of dumb stuff but yeah overall I mean with the agency it's very family oriented and it's a it's a great place to work for it's a great area to work for and uh again I'm more than satisfied with where I'm at right now and who I work for so that's awesome dude uh it's been tempting dude I uh your Pi Tori has hit me up several times saying hey Kent we're hiring oh yeah and I'm like oh it sounds so fun um yeah it's still it's still in the back of my head dude well I think you'd be a you'd be a great addition if you ever make the plunge but welcome you with open arms oh man I don't know at my age I I just feel too old to to learn new things I know camera is all too well you know you can teach an old dog new tricks I'll just say that you can teach an old dog new tricks even though you're not that old maybe one day we'll see um I actually wanted to to to ask you this um you worked for City PPD at one point now you're with the sheriff's office for people who don't know the difference are you able to explain the big difference is yeah absolutely I know it varies depending on the region of the country or where you live in cuz some places you might you know where depending where you live you might have never even seen a a sheriff's car whatever but Arizona um really any municipality or Incorporated Town typically has their own you know City Police Department their city employees their primary responsibility is is the city or town that they're employed by the sheriff um primarily the responsibility for the sheriff is to provide law enforcement services for the unincorporated areas of the county or the non City areas and that really can depend um what your job or what the sheriff's duties look like depending on the county they work in right sure um where we work in we have a lot of city-like areas um that just technically aren't you know annexed into a city so a lot of you know when you've been writing with me where I work it looks like a city there's businesses there's houses and then other parts of the county that that are in my area they they look truly like you know the wild west right there's a house and there's another house 15 miles apart from that and you got to drive down a driveway 10 miles to get to the house so it really varies um what I love about working for a sheriff's office versus a city is really you're you're autonomous for one and B you have a lot more area that you're able to cover and a lot more you know I guess water you can dabble in as far as where you're going to play or be proactive or go hunt so um I I I I definitely you know I'm a little biased now but I would have a hard time going back to a city just because I I've got to have a lot of fun with the sheriff's totally so far I I believe that man um the office of sheriff is is fascinating to me because there's a lot of history uh even with the word sheriff um I believe it originated in England right sh re that's right Shah or however you pronounce that and uh yeah it's fascinating man we've we've had uh a long history of sheriffs in in the world yeah um dating back to I mean I'm not going to make up the the dates but uh yeah it's pretty pretty fascinating seeing how law enforcement specifically Sheriff's offices have uh have um evolved over the uh hundreds of years right right is is pretty cool even I I would say even working in a western state where you know back in the old days you know Wy her and you know the gunslingers man those guys were the sheriffs and uh you know it's pretty cool you know even 100 years 150 years from when that was all going on um to know it's like I'm still part of this organization that was so crazy and cool you know back in the days absolutely lots of I'm a history buff I love history so I'm with you on that it's pretty a pretty pretty makes it like worth something too totally talk about a legacy totally man so much cool history there um so I know what you do for uh you know some of your hobbies but I know people want to know who Deputy Cooper Stubblefield is who is who is the man behind the badge what do you do for fun um I like spending time outside that's like I said that's why I moved up to the White Mountain Area my wife and I um essentially we were spending every weekend off going up there and we like to fly fish uh we like to hunt we like to Ski and Snowboard like to hike so really there's all that up there right it's it's 2 Dees in here in the valley today it's I think the high in Pine top where I live is 60° today so um uh yeah I love to fly fish Avid Avid fly fisherman I've uh traveled all across the west and fish whether it's Montana Utah um Idaho um we've actually gone to New Zealand and gone fly fishing and also love to hunt I know you know I'm I'm still on Smith's P punch line on the last show but not as cool of a hunter as him but I do like to hunt definitely gotten into that a lot lately and snowboarding too I think on one of the episodes I was like I like to snowboard I'm not very good at it that's true but um just spending time outside and you know not being in office and that's what I love to do is is just get out decompress that's where I chose to live and and work where I do yeah God man I I told Jordan last time I uh oh yeah we we put in to hunt this year my brother-in-law uh but we didn't get pulled oh y so now we're just he knows more about this than I do but um I guess now the next step is you wait to see if you can go get a deer now or something I don't know I don't know where it's at but Arizona is a finicky State a lot a lot of hunters in Arizona um you know there's a lot of there's a lot of hunting to do here but it makes it more competitive you know but yeah it's you know it makes it worth it though it makes the weight you know pay off when you want when the year finally comes where you draw that tag and get what you want so yeah now it's a waiting game for you now it's a waiting game but that also means it might uh it might be a good thing actually CU I know there's a lot of stuff I need to go buy because it is something I really want to get into um I haven't really hunted other than small like rabbits jack rabbits and stuff like that but I know it's expensive dude yeah adds up quick but the nice thing is you buy the good stuff and once you get it ideally unless you drop it or lose it or break it ideally you only buy it once but I I get where you're coming from yeah it's an investment um but dude tell me um uh so you're in Patrol now what is uh what would you like to be doing eventually you know say uh what's the next move for you in your in your career um like yeah I love Patrol you know through and through like I said you know you get to be autonomous and for the most part dictate what you do hos my thing is I like to be proactive and go go find it right go get into it and go find it but um I I I'm interested in a few things I I I would be interested in being a K9 Officer one day um just having that as a tool and that partner with hunting and with being proactive and that's something that I am that I'm definitely very interested in and then eventually too I I'd want to promote and get in a supervisory role and I think I think I could teach people a lot um and I really believe in leaders that lead from the front and in law enforcement especially today we need that right we need we need you know Frontline supervisors and above that are going to lead from the front and show their guys how to do it and encourage them to do it so uh I a few different directions but you know that's that's in the future I'm having a lot of fun now so it's like I don't even want to think about that yet but I dude I I totally get the future but the future is on the horizon you know so yeah and uh you are the best at what you do a lot of people I mean you've seen the comments but people love you um even want you to to become a sheriff and and start your own your own City with your own name it's wild man some of the comments I've seen But one uh some of the comments I see all the time um they're always positive I've never seen a negative comment about you it's always positive people are always like man this deput is if we could clone this deputy and have this deputy in you know other offices um it's a it's a reoccurring theme I see all the time why why do you think that is well I I know why but uh and for people who don't know Cooper is exactly who he is in the videos I mean he is one of the coolest guys you'll ever meet he's down to earth humble um just a lovable dude uh do you think that's because of your upbringing um why why are you like that way I it's it's a weird question but you're not like other deputies or some people perceive uh law enforcement as you know kind of sticklers or they're mean or whatever well yeah and I I I really do believe in the human side of the badge and it's a new thing right I mean it's just the way it was though you know 30 30 years ago 40 years ago law enforcement was a different environment it was a different culture it's the way it was right but times have changed a lot and you know I I really think this is like the new generation of policing right um but briging yeah I mean I I grew up and it's like you treat everybody nicely and treat everybody with respect and you're not going to be cocky and my personal pet peeve is you know cocky and arrogant people and it always has been yeah still as to this day so I I've always told myself you know holding a position of authority you know I I I will never be a cocky arrogant guy for one and to one that just you know talks down on people and it's condescending to people it's just not who I am you know morally and believe in being um but to go on that I it makes you know a quote that stuck with me at one point and of all people was with this fishing guy this hippie dude I was fishing with we were fishing with one day and uh you know he asked I was in college at the time going to NAU and he's like what do you want to do as a career and I told him uh kind of reluctantly honestly I kind of told him because that was you know a time in a point in time where law enforcement wasn't really the greatest you know in the media and stuff looked at um but I told him you know reluctantly I wanted I want to get into law enforcement but a quote that kind of stuck out to me something he said um because I think he kind of picked up on that reluctancy but he's like that's not a stupid profession because I think I might have said something like that I'm like I know it's crazy or I know it's dumb like I want to do law enforcement he's like it's not dumb he's like it's not stupid he's like it's a noble profession as long as you're not a jerk and that like stuck with me right some random guy that I barely met this hippie fishing guy this hippie fishing guide and he he tells me that and it's something that's stuck with me right like and I think that's where it comes from right is that the majority of the public supports us and supports what we do right but they're expecting that level of service they're expecting you not to be a jerk right and and that's something that's stuck with me um I believe in like representing the agency well I believe in you know you know just giving that level of service to everybody in the community whether even if it is your criminals right or even if it is a victim of crimes or somebody's speeding um you don't have to be a jerk to get the job done and get the job done effectively you're a perfect example of that I mean we even have a uh an episode where you went above and beyond right um I think the lady had a few warrants out for arrest but she had a uh a vehicle loaded full of um groceries and um instead of having her vehicle towed you ended up actually getting her permission to to park her vehicle cuz we were in her apartment complex anyways parked her vehicle and then you proceeded to unload her vehicle full of uh groceries and put them in the fridge for her and dude I'll never forget that as I'm behind the camera I'm like God man this guy is incredible um and of course people went crazy over that um in in a good way like man I love this guy um it was just fascinating for me to see because it's something I'm not used to seeing I try to put myself in shoes I don't know if I would have done that um I I like to think that I would um but it was just so so great to see that there that you're out there you know even though you had to arrest her on on the things that she uh uh her warns and stuff you're out there still helping her yeah you know that that's our job right we're we're public servants right and the Academy I went to that's what they you know that's what they refer to us as and I think some law enforcement can forget that sometimes but at the end of the day we're serving the public right we're serving the public sometimes the duties of our job has to make people's lives harder sometimes but there's a lot that we have the ability to do and there's nothing that's stopping us from being able to help people out right even if we're arresting them even whatever else there's nothing that's stopping us from from you know still serving them right one way or another right so yeah I appreciate the Kudos on that yeah man no I appreciate you uh being kind to people you know it's it's such a refreshing thing to see and uh and and show you know it's and and obviously people love that um dude so I've selected a few clips of some of our episodes um I'd love to share those with you and and maybe talk about those clips so uh uh Mr will if you could roll roll those clips the first one apparently you can oh there's another one and here's another one that's decent amount too those are some pretty big crystals too God there's like I'm just scared I'm going to get one cuz there's caps everywhere and I'm like another crazy [Music] weapon he was asking for a time frame on how long this is going to take because he he has to get back to work [Music] all right uh what amazed me as I'm filming this not not not amaze me well maybe amaze me but dude I was terrified of you sticking you know I I I don't think people understand how dangerous your job be not just pulling people over arresting people but you've also got to worry about needles in some cases like this where there were caps and needles all over the place like and you're just wearing these you know the the latex gloves yeah dude like if people only understood what all that you have to do what what your your job entails I think people would have a lot more respect but yeah tell me what's going on in your mind as you're searching this vehicle with all these needles and the the caps and everywhere yeah I mean it's always a hazard and I think even from the time I'd started in law enforcement to now I think we're seeing a comeback with IV drug use unfortunately but yeah just hoping like be vigilant don't be too fast right be be thorough but be systematic and that's how you get hurt and that's a lot of thing that's you know something I've learned at doing that job whether it's you know trying to get apprehend a bad guy or going through a car is when you when you lose that you know system you know systematic process of doing it and um is when you risk getting hurt so really yeah I'm just looking out making sure there's nothing sharp that's going to stick me but you're right I mean you know a lot of people think oh you know it's just chasing the bad guy down or trying to fight him or get him in cuffs but it's a lot you know it's a lot deeper than that too yeah now what happens in the case you do get uh poked by a needle um not good obviously but lots of uh lots of blood testing um I think you get put on some type of medication but um I think in the the very bad instance it happens you're going to the hospital for the next you know 3 four months constantly getting your blood drawn you know weekly or something along those lines getting tested and you know just hoping praying whatever else you do that you're not going to contract anything I think I think too that the person that it belonged to I think by law they also have to go get a some like an HIV test to make sure that yeah they can't to so that way you're informed also so I know there's something like like that but I'm very you know grateful and fortunate enough to not have to ever deal with that Firth handedly but dude it's getting scary man like I'm sure you hear this more than than others but uh the the whole fenol thing is getting crazy out of hand too you get even just the smallest amount of fentanyl on your on your whatever right on your hand or whatever could absolutely put you uh take you out and the next next thing you know you're getting Naran to wake up by your by your colleagues like yeah unfortunately you know fentol is making a comeback it's you know that's a news headliner nowadays but yeah there's you know with technology evolving and everything else I mean it's if it's not one thing it's another that's you know the next Hazard to us and everybody else right even just you know the kid at school right like you said the f and all so scary stuff so along the lines of this same episode uh I learned a new phrase from you uh incarceritis what's explain to me what incarceritis is yeah I think you'd ask any cop and they'll probably tell you what incarceritis is right it's that you're you know and I don't know I can't give you a Mariam Webster definition sure but it's it's really as soon as you're placed under arrest and somebody's going to jail they now have a you know an emergency medical condition that just spurred up so it's an attempt to get out of going to jail exact um you know does it happen often it happens often and unfortunately a lot of times it works for them whether it's you know because more calls pop off and you know somebody you know another officer or Deputy can't wait for them at the hospital like I said in that video I mean he has the right to receive medical service right medical attention but for me it's like I I don't want to make that I don't want to let that work for you right because if it's you know permitted and it's allowed it's going to you know he's going to do it the next time and the next time and the next time so yeah it's safe to say that most people who claim that they have a medical emergency when they know they're being arrested these are probably habitual unfortunately yeah unfortunately unfortunately this gentleman I was told afterwards he' done that probably three or four times withs other local agencies in the area and it's worked a few times for him so yeah incarceritis it's uh it's a beast it's a real thing but you know we we got to air on the side of caution right and we we're not on the business of denying people are rights right so unfortunately it's stressful stressful and frustrating for us sometimes but it's just the some of the joys of navigating in the the criminal the criminal realm right the world of of criminals sometimes yeah I mean you got to sit there and wait for uh fire uh or uh um not fire well I guess sometimes fire but you got to wait wait for medical to come and that just makes the the situation you know drawn out and you got H yeah it makes it it usually turns into being a much longer shift than you hope for it's usually usually what they get what it what it turns into but for me how strong will areio you going to let him win because you want to go home on time or are you going to win right that's what it comes down to that's right um all right will let's go ahead and uh play our second clip okay I guess we're going to pick her up one two three okay okay I got stop stop slamming your head stop me stop I just want to die stop stop me mommy me do me get it off CA do me dude I remember this night almost like it happened last night uh I believe it was a Monday night yeah it was either a Monday Sunday or Monday night and I remember thinking all right these nights are typically quiet uh we probably won't get anything I I say that anyways because I want the law of what's it called uh I want to attract uh you know some some crazy stuff to go down and sure enough that night some crazy stuff went down yeah yeah I remember being behind the camera I'm like oh my gosh this this is insane man um I had never experienced something like that uh more specifically someone uh physically harming themselves why she was doing that I have no idea probably a mixture of drugs and or drinking for sure we know about but uh yeah is that stuff like that is that a common occurrence for you you um unfortunately yes I mean it's I wouldn't say it's a weekly thing but it's not I mean I think you could tell both by my my me and my partner's reactions it wasn't you know our first radio dealing with something like that so we're familiar with it is it is it common for people to want to harm themselves like I'm curious to know what is going through through their mind uh you know they know they're going they're going to be arrested in her case I I think she just got out of prison or jail for some offenses and she knows she's going back right um yeah is there any any reasoning behind why she would want to harm herself or is it purely just a because she's she doesn't have control I think you said once yeah I I I really you know I think if we tried to reason with it a lot it we'd get nowhere but I think it's a control thing right is you know I think I even said it in that video you know she she was Dr out of the house forcefully removed from the house she was placed in handcuffs and forcefully you know essentially carried up the driveway so she has no control over what's going on now and a lot of people in that state that that's not okay with them right that's they want to be in charge that's not okay with them but they're not anymore um but you know that I think I I that clip it goes to show right you know we still have a duty to protect her from herself in this case right we have a duty to protect her she tried to start slamming her head in the truck and yeah ad damage a truck but hurt herself right and and that's what we did right we're we're protecting her from harming herself even though she's a suspect here right so that's how quick in my opinion that's how quick sometimes it can flip right first we're even though she's a suspect all of a sudden now we're we're protecting her it's just from herself you that's right and you guys did an excellent job thanks have doing that um uh the other Deputy that was there was uh well you both were calming her down but you guys did a great job there towards the end when you got her in the vehicle to to calm down and and uh yeah it was incredible to watch yeah um all right let's go ahead and roll our third wheel if you understand the directions go ahead and start just like I demonstrated [Music] okay you can come back over here do you know the alphabet I do okay awesome say the alphabet out loud starting now please a b c d e f g h i j t k o p yep Qs Ty right okay are you done yes okay come back to my car okay follow me dude that will forever be one of my favorite favorite Clips he ends at why um I don't know if you're allowed to get into to too much detail on this but what is again you've probably seen this over and over and over dealing with the drunk drivers but is there any kind of comedic like are you laughing in your head are you allowed to say sometimes yeah it's just like come on you know and I think I think it's you know it's scary one right it's scary that people in that state are going to operate a vehicle right 100% but but too I think the comedic aspect comes from when they claim that they're not intoxicated or they haven't been drinking and then they do that it's like come on man you know that's the comedic aspect or you know you'll get people that you know admit oh I had one beer right I had one beer and then they they're in that type of state and it's like come on you know that that's a comedic part of it I would say but yeah unfortunately i' I've seen similar things like this time and time again and it it's concerning you know more than anything it's concerning absolutely if I remember correctly you couldn't immediately tell he had been drinking cuz there was no no odor coming off of him was that the case I can't remember from what I remember I think I it was either very faint or none at all um but it was really his overall demeanor right his overall demeanor of acting just extremely confused dazed out of it on top of his driving behavior um and then once you know we started getting into the weeds with them and got them out it's like okay now we can start you know smelling it on him now we're just seeing more and observing more but that's somebody who I'd venture to say is probably a functioning alcoholic 100% And can somewhat hold it well together to a certain point and then the gigs up right the gigs up after a certain amount of time or point so when you're conducting these fsts are you uh I mean obviously you you know what you're looking for um but how evident is is it within would you say I guess it determines on the test but are you immediately able to pick up say even he gets out the car are you able to know immediately like okay this guy's gone or or even when you're doing the you know looking at his eyes you're looking for the uh uh uh NG what is it HG hgm stmas stmas uh are you immediately like oh yeah this this guy's after you've been doing the job a while you can get a gauge but I mean from from the time that we see the vehicle traveling in motion on the roadway that's what we're doing right we're observing you know an all of your observations whether it's the you know starting at the vehicle on the roadway to your contact with the driver to the fsts if you do them that all essentially you know comes into play with what's going to happen here tonight um but I would say after a while you kind of get a pretty good gauge after you know a few minutes of speaking with somebody where they could be but the the fsts is is what helps us verify that and what helps us either confirm or dispel that's right what we've observed up to that point that's right um all right I think we've got one more well if we could roll that what that piece of glass on your leg from on your pants oh yeah do you crush something up no okay I'm just going to be straight up with you V okay I saw that piece of glass on your leg okay I think it's from a pipe I don't know did you just look at me look at me did you try to crush something up no he never did no I'm asking you no I saw that piece of pipe had like black residue on it piece of glass on your thigh I don't think it just randomly got there well Bingo found it found the rest of it so there is the rest of it is under the seat in the seat holder dude I'm still Blown Away by your investigative skills uh you walking up to the to the door and immediately seeing that I'm assuming it was a tiny piece of glass yeah and uh I I'm just blown away by that you know you obviously you're you're uh you're talk you're having a conversation with with him with her but then you're looking around you see you see different Clues I mean dude that is great investigative work how do how do you uh how does one become so good at that well just being observant and getting your feet wet out there right getting to know what stuff looks like what the name for certain things are um really getting that immersion I guess you would call into the criminal world of what you're looking for sure um there was already some weird things up to that point which kind of had me more I'd say hypervigilant and observant of what was going on but you know it's I would say it's from being you know in a way staying relevant and knowing what you're looking for right and I've seen hundreds and hundreds of meth pipes before know what the glass looks like and know exactly what that is so when I see that piece of glass that's the size of a penny or you know whatever even smaller than that resting on somebody's thigh at 4 in the morning you're re you know you're relevant and you know what that is right I know what that is I know what that looks like and you can testify in court that piece of glass a how why is a piece of glass on her thigh in a vehicle at 400 a.m. but B I know EX exactly what that is consistent with and looks like based on my experience as a street cop right and having that cred really to back it up that makes sense that makes sense um but still that to to the uh the person who doesn't you know who isn't a law enforcement it's it's it's incredible to watch someone who is able to pick up on things that easily and and spot those things so kudos for you for for being able to spot that stuff cuz cuz then that just takes it to a whole different level right now you're investigating drugs uh you know and it goes from there so right absolutely incredible dude well thanks um okay I'm thinking I think we do have one more I'm sorry so will if we could roll that next one yeah yeah it's like a straight up prison shank wrapped an electrical tape so a lot of lot of stuff going on here so he's showing that he has five warrants um so immediately here's a meth pipe this uses to smoke methamphetamine you can see there's residue in there could you real quick could you just secure him in the back of my car okay thank you here's a firearm so I'm don't know but we'll have to see if he is a prohibited possessor it's a completely looks like the serial number has been scratched off of it I don't know what caliber it is but 24329 on a firearm please it is going to be unknown make 22 caliber looks like it was right there huh and filed over yeah and then there's some big yeah it down right there too yeah you could see they took like a something hard like a file in so more than probably 99% likely it's a stolen gun dude that's one of my favorite clips of all time um for several reasons but I remember when we rolled up we lit them up she pulled in that motel and I remember watching you you know I'm I'm filming whatever I'm looking at you or the the vehicle but the whole time my other eye is just watching you because I'm watching you typing on your computer or you know looking up uh you know running uh running the tags or whatever you're doing um but also I can tell that your senses are are heightened here right and I remember thinking oh man this his Spidey senses are uh are tingling right now I wonder what is going on in his mind um and it turns out I mean obviously by the clip uh there was a lot of stuff going on here right right um yeah take me take me what's going on your mind as you're finding you know weapons that are probably more than likely stolen uh the serial numbers are scratched off um we got we got drugs in the vehicle we've got a bunch of credit cards uh social security cards I mean it's like everything everything that could go wrong is in this vehicle right right I you said something about you know your spidey sons and I think if you ask a lot of cops or people in the that were in the military you know and they'll tell you you have that extra sense right of you know know us as humans and Primal animals and every we want to survive right and I I I truly believe um that's something we're given and that's something you should listen to and that that's one of those cases um I do I know I've talked to you a lot about it but I I like to do a lot of body language studying um I couldn't come on this podcast without mentioning Craig Meyer's name as far as reading body language um he's been a great great mentor to me and I've taken his class and for any law enforcement out there um I highly suggest looking into Craig Meyers um what course he has to offer regarding human body language in the criminal realm and criminal activity um but yeah essentially from the beginning um seeing his b you know that gentleman's body language and how he's reacting to my presence once we're stopped and how he's responding to me when I'm talking to him and how he's moving around in the vehicle um all those combined I know something's wrong here I know something's going on and I know something's going on quickly and like you said I I I unfortunately you know I I I try to be that nice cop and that that you know courteous cop and we you can do your job you know effectively and proficiently but there's sometimes you can't do that to stay safe out there and uh unfortunately in the back of my head I I I I could see some type of violence happening with that traic stop so I I I don't know if it showed it on the video but you know one thing after another that ball is rapidly that ball yarn is rapidly you know unraveling with him giving the fake name and him moving around and reaching around the car and driving you know and her you know being the way she is too on top of it but all those things something's going off here and the Bells Are Ringing like hey come on do something about it let's fix it let's get ourselves out of the situation so I was calling you know calling for backup I was calling for backup to step it up because I knew something was going on which is pretty rare I remember them saying Oh man we just heard Cooper over the radio conference backup what's going on right right and uh again it's like the Situation's not good I know something's wrong I know something's going on let's fix it so you know I'm grateful we're able to to to solve that without you know any type of real physical altercation or any violence and half of me kind of believes that it it went down that way essentially because of his kids were in the car and you know um but it makes you know at the end of the day right when you see these things and you're com you know you see these things and you're suspicious about and you're those bells are going off in your head and you know you know something's wrong right that extra sense is going off and then you bring it to a resolution and then now you discover all these things you're like wow I am glad I recognized and picked up on something that was going wrong something you know so it it's great to it's good to validate it right it's good to validate what you're seeing and why you think you're seeing it and obviously we're grateful to come to a resolution to it and and and and and do that safely without anybody getting hurt um but yeah this was a great stop this is for me this is like my bread and butter of why I like to do what I do in law enforcement right we're getting those wanted people off the street we're getting those people with the stolen guns off the street we're getting the drugs off the street we getting the people that shouldn't be shouldn't be possessing guns because of their criminal background off the street that that is that is why I like to do what I do and and that is what I think is making the difference right en and all while doing it as much as you can being kind to people and treating with respect and everything else but that's that's you know that incident kind of in a nutshell is is why I like to do what I like to do is to get those people off of our streets and out of our communities that should not be be out right be on the streets with those things and doing those things that's right and we know and we probably can't go into detail but we know that this guy was dangerous yeah I mean even after the filming of this episode he got into some pretty serious stuff um and it's crazy to think that you and I were there um at the beginning of you know with this traffic stop and knowing what he was capable after right um pretty wild dude pretty wild to to think that uh that this guy was was out there out there doing this stuff so pretty scary uh scary stuff yeah a lot of times you know especially like that unfortunately you know I think sometimes people don't people don't see it a lot and unfortunately it's just the way our justice system works sometimes but you know unfortunately people like that don't stay in gel forever they do get out and what you're going to brush up on I know we can't go into too much detail over it but I mean correct but to me stuff like that especially when you see it you know after the fact it makes you grateful right it's like I know this I knew this guy I know this guy was capable of shooting somebody and uh you know it makes you grateful right that every day counts every day matters makes something you know make it worth something and it makes you grateful to navigate your way through situations like that safely and being able to come home safely without getting hurt or getting killed and that's the reality of the job right and that that's the way I look at it right you know every you know we're all going to we're all going to our time on this Earth is going to be done one day it's going to be over and done with one day it might be tomorrow it might be 50 60 years from now whatever right but you know I tell myself I'm going to I'm going to go out there and be the best person I can be I'm going to be the best cop I can be um every day and and uh until until that day comes you know well Cooper you could have said any better I you are a shining example of what law law enforcement should be you are so good at your job um and I'm grateful that you allow me to come and document uh the the the crazy stuff you get into um I know nav County Sheriff's Office are super proud of you uh as public we're super proud of you too man you are killing it every day so appreciate it I want to thank you man for coming on I know it's not comfortable um especially with it's kind of a warm warm day in the valley today um but yeah man thank you so much for taking the time out to to come out and be on and uh also want to thank Navajo County Sheriff's Office uh for allowing this to to to happen today so uh yeah man thank you yeah thanks for having me I'm ready to get out of the heat yeah I bet 60 degree weather is call my name but yeah thanks for having me I I you know I'm grateful for you and everything you've done I appreciate you highlighting the work that not only I do but everybody else does because there's some really good people in law enforcement right unfortunately there's bad people but you know as a whole Arn I I believe in what you guys do it's been awesome to see you guys grow and I I hope to some degree I can feel like I've helped you guys grow maybe one way or another but absolutely um yeah thank you guys for what you do it's it's awesome to see and hope to still be a part of the ride one way or another for you will for the rest of it so I know I know we got plenty plenty more work to do much more work to do and a lot more memories to capture and make right that's right absolutely I appreciate that man thank you so much yes that makes me feel good um all right guys thank you again for for being here um if you haven't seen any of these episodes with uh Deputy Stubblefield make sure you go and watch them like like subscribe do all that all that stuff and until next time thanks
