Walmart you're in R back I'm assuming will you take ride a road I was I was going to like take a little drive like a 10minute drive and then go back to my house do you have anything to drink tonight no okay now you did tell me before as you're driving you your friend that you were you were on the phone with your friend and your friend said hey look at Instagram and when you looked at Instagram upon arriving at the scene the officer encountered a highly intoxicated female driver whose impaired state had caused the tragic crash the officer observed clear signs of intoxication such as slurred speech unsteady movements and the smell of alcohol after ensuring the safety of others involved the officer began an investigation which included conducting a sobriety test securing the driver and collecting evidence you took your eyes away I'm assuming and then is that when it happened is this is this like a I'm going to be clear I owner I don't I don't understand why I crash like I'm always with her friend and her friend said hey check check Instagram out so while she was driving she said that she looked looked at Instagram at which time now we're we're where we at is that she's not very Cooperative with us I don't know what her problem is I can maybe you can you know maybe if she sees you so you know calmed down a little bit com back to this house that yeah that car the the ram was you cuz it's possible be doing some substance to because Mom said she has an AC in right so just go over there yes so essentially she told me you told sge what she told me this right here looks like oh yeah the r already got all that I didn't do anything I got her out cuz she was I got here she couldn't open the door the door's kind of jammed I opened the door she was like I'm chhob I just need there um me and my friends but over spring break which was like two weeks ago and I just haven't got I haven't gotten rid of the boxing the officer sought to understand whether the intoxication played a role asking about her alcohol consumption driving decisions and awareness of her surroundings his investigation focused on Gathering details to determine the extent of her responsibility and Ensure rate legal actions were taken the officer asked the female if she had any other injuries to which she mentioned a minor head injury concerned for her well-being the officer then requested that she step out of the vehicle to assess her condition better and you said you're 18 oh my God my car I'm ask you real quick I'm ask you real quick you need to be honest with us right now okay did you have any alcoholic beverage today whatsoever no did you smoke any marijuana or any type of drugs or anything like that that would influence you in a strange way while you're driving no okay cuz you're and injuries she would not be immediately taken into custody I can't think straight I don't know what's going on right now I know I know bring her to the hospital okay yeah um do the down like back of this case what happens is it's essentially you get a ticket for DWI and you go to okay now sometimes they do an interlock device you know what an interlock device is you know so a lot of times what happens is they'll install a device in your car for a certain period of time and before so like you blow into it you drive correct I'm assuming you've never been arrested before and you've never had a DWI is I'm I'm only asking because if you had like prior DWIs there's more severe penalties but obviously you got to go to court everything you know innocent until proven guilty you know what I mean but yes you were placed under arrest due to the totality of circumstan es and the tests okay the tests indicate to me that you're under the influence I don't know of what most likely alcohol okay so you going to hospital because you appear to be hurt so before anything else is addressed we want to make sure you're okay all right cuz I'm definitely not a doctor Adam's excellent excellent EMT probably one of the best but still he can only do so much in the field okay so once once you said that you're hurt and obviously based on what I saw when I got there and the condition of your car it's probably best what you know that you said that we're taking to the hospital just so they can evaluate you okay cuz they're the experts is your nose hurt that's the airbag comes out and hit you in the nose that's why your nose is going to be a little not the good thing is that you had your seat on because if you didn't have your SE on it would have been a lot worse I saw the car has Pennsylvania admitted to being highly intoxicated and acknowledged her guilt regarding the level of her impairment this candid admission further contributed to the officer's positive assessment of her cooperation after collecting all necessary details and ensuring full cooperation another officer sat with her in the vehicle they discussed her movements asking where she was coming from and where she was headed nothing different than was has a changed since we got in the in the ambulance about the same [Applause] one check ah I don't I don't understand I'm under arrest being like influence of something I'm not going in jail how does that work DWI okay is in New Jersey other states are different but in New Jersey it's essentially you get a traffic ticket and a court date okay again if you hit someone walking their dog or someone riding their bicycle it's a little bit different but right now what we have right now ewi typically how it works if you weren't going to the hospital you come back to our Police Headquarters you blow into the machine we get a read it okay and then you someone comes signs for you and you're released and then you go home there from there like based on that if we had that situation you're talking about or right now right now well we're going to the hospital make sure you're okay okay at the hospital they're going to ask you if you consent to give blood okay if you don't consent to give blood so they can check cuz you're not doing the breathalyzer you're not coming to headquarters do the breathalyzer go to the hospital if you don't consent then we have to get a warrant to essentially get the blood and then from there on you are released so your mom is probably going to come to the hospital and that's pretty much it then you go to court don't the bre we don't have a portable breath elzer either if you weren't going to the hospital You' be coming with us to Police Headquarters you'd be doing the breath lizer at which time someone would come like your mom sign for you take responsibility for you for the next 12 hours that you're so wanted to do no no your mom showed up I have no idea I'm assuming something to do with your car cuz you didn't even call the the police from what I understand your car sent was too quick you're right no I no no I'm not saying why you didn't call I'm saying it happened and then your car sent the notification that you've been in an accident and that's what we got that your car was involved in an accident they gave us which area it was in at which time I found you and if you remember you were kind of freaking out in the car cuz you want to get out and the door was jammed so I got you out I don't know if you remember that and that's it shortly after your mom shut up we didn't call her cuz we you know what I mean probably something to do with the car do you remember getting in the acci you remember the accident happening clear I just remember talking to my friend Danny on the phone look at this Instagram story I pulled it up was looking at the road and looked at it wasn't looking around looking wasn't looking at the road and then bam everybody's were off and you remember that happening you remember the airbags and that happening so you don't think you lost Consciousness okay good how quick would you say from the accident that I got out there like a few minutes I'm just trying to see how how good the system is in your car a few minutes really quickly I know exactly how much but few minutes maybe at the most yeah three max what year is that what year is that car like 23 24 I think it's 202 that's pretty good system cuz think about yeah think about if you couldn't call you know your brother's at home I going be able to go tomorrow go to school I mean depending on what they tell you at the court she was found guilty of using a handheld wireless phone operating a vehicle while intoxicated and having an open container in addition to serving 20 days of community service and spending 12
