[music] [music] >> Our operation Badger is based around our shoplifting of highly prolific offenders within the local area. They include London Bridge, Elephant and Castle, our Borough and Bankside teams as well, Borough Market, all the way through to Tower Bridge. As the our cycle units had managed to detain three known nominals in the area for their rate antisocial behavior. Um three stops were conducted under section 23. As we come around as the cycle units are coming around the area, they've obviously seen these three individuals openly smoking drugs in the area. Section 23 was conducted and a name search was done on the male who was in possession of the drugs at the time. He'd been name searched by the use of our ink devices, which is identity not known. At that point, it's been found out that he is wanted um for up north for some shoplifting offenses, which obviously ties in to our operation today. Uh the male has been substantially arrested. He'll be taken to our custody suite where he'll be dealt with our CPU unit. These bikes are important purely for the fact that they are able to get the one to places obviously that a vehicle, so a car is unable to get to quickly. Uh they're able to, you know, remove around in the area silently. While obviously they're in a high-vis jacket, they are obviously seen by members of the public. It brings up trust within the local area. And uh for obvious reasons, they're very effective tool in able to stop and detain people cuz they're able to dismount from that bike quickly in case obviously the said person who detained may try to escape from police or try to run from police at that time. As part of our patrols around our local area, we've come across two males at the time. Uh one of them, I believe was someone else. And uh as we stopped him, recognized one of the males to be a gentleman who was on a sexual prevention harm order. Um he's been stopped. Frequently he has been breaching it. So, he's obviously been arrested for that offense as well. Although today while we were engaging in the ASB and the shoplifting persona, uh we're also looking at doing obviously other arrests and other you know, other offenses which have taken place in the area. Um it's a good result. He's not while a violent offender, the fact that he obviously poses a risk to um vulnerable women, potentially vulnerable young girls as well, it's obviously great that we've uh been able to remove him off the street as a the operation today as well. So, the operation is important for the local community today to again tackle those repeat offenders. Obviously, shoplifting itself is an a victimless crime. So, this store in front of us is Sainsbury's on Long Lane. It's one of our shops which is constantly hit by prolific shoplifters. We've had a person in there who has been charged with over 70 accounts of shoplifting and breaches of his community protection notice. Uh we will be going into that store just [music] to touch base with the store and the manager itself. Just show that they are obviously aware that we're out and about and obviously to report anything that does go on in that store. We are just on our way now to the Kipling Estate. Um one of our prolific shoplifters who's currently on bail not to be within the area. Uh not only obviously to protect the shops, but to protect the local residents as well cuz he's quite a violent offender. At the present moment in time he's been spotted. He's run away from officers, but we've essentially we've got him cornered now. So, we're just I've currently got I think it's about six or seven officers on their way now just to ensure that one he doesn't run away and obviously secondly we can detain him safely. Um at that point he'll then be arrested for breaching his bail and I think he You have like one or two outstanding shoplifting from the within the last week. So, be excited to see what we will see what we get. Uh so, during the section 32 search, uh Officer Tim found a small bit of cannabis inside the suspect's sock, hidden quite close down towards the foot. Um quite a good search, to be fair. Uh managed to locate it. He's also got paperwork that was stuck down there as well with solicitor's details and an address as well, which we're going to check on our system and make sure it's not known for any drugs or anything like that, cuz it could be linked towards the cannabis. So, a good bit of intel, a good bit of work. >> Yeah. >> So, the relationship between Southwark Council and the police is incredibly important. It's a priority for the new administration to make Southwark safer, and we can't do that at all without working in partnership with the police. So, I'm really pleased to be here today to to hear about all of the good work that's going on in Southwark police station and across the north of the borough to help tackle issues like shoplifting and anti-social behavior, which comes up repeatedly on the doorsteps by our residents as one of their top concerns. >> Today's result we're doing some really great results, obviously not only affecting the local community, but also those which are traveling into London as well and seeing the massive amount of deterrent and obviously our group partnership working that we do on a daily basis. >> Your reporting to police also ensures us that we were able to get to these calls quickly and able to deal with them efficiently.
