24-year-old Luis Fernando cavalos and his passenger 27-year-old Alexis Rodriguez were identified during the stop Alexis mentioned they were on their first date and blamed herself for the reckless driving saying she was in a rush to get home officer Nunes reassured her that it was not her fault and issued Louis three citations for reckless driving Failure to observe res erve a flashing traffic signal in violation of restrictions on a provisional license before allowing him to leave the officer warned Luise to drive responsibly to prevent a fatal accident the stop concluded at 2:2 a.m. just 11 minutes later at 213 a.m. officer Jessica Toro reported a motor vehicle accident involving a tractor trailer on Route 1 19 in 36th Street officer Nunes responded to the scene and immediately recognized the vehicle from the earlier stop tragically Lis and Alexis did not heed the warning and both were pronounced dead at the scene this video begins with the initial traffic stop and follows other one fa and this it literally just when I was in Florida the Troopers had everything shut down and every Florida is crazy the way they drive over there you would think every car is stolen the minimum like the Flor speed is 100 mph it's crazy but they had it shut down and there was like a car rolled over over in the ditch you could tell like it rolled probably like a good 10 times a pickup truck demolished bad it was like I originally pulled up I was a good way back do you have an insurance card on this guy or anything for the tractor no that's all he gave me he said it's a rental that it should be self-insured so yeah I'm going to have to look at this thing and then the the trailer paper I show you where it's at if you want to yeah let's see if we can't get it out that's really [ he's like a really close family friend cousin not Cousin but like family friend since my cousin is like family friend and they notified him so he was D he's driving over to North Arlington I don't know where he was coming from but wherever it was he knew was here so we stopped by to see if you get more information Alexis Britney Rodriguez 27 was the unfortunate but willing passenger in a 2022 Kia Stinger recklessly driven by Luis Fernando cvos when when he collided with a semi-truck trailer at an extremely high rate of speed the crash occurred on tonnell Avenue at the Patterson Plank Road overpass around 2:15 a.m. on Wednesday August 4th 2021 surveillance footage confirmed the excessive speed which was cited as the primary factor in the crash according to the police report the impact shared the roof off the Kia and the vehicle continued another 40 to 50 ft before finally coming to a stop against the overpass wall just 11 minutes earlier savalos had been stopped by North Bergen police for reckless driving speeding over 100 miles hour running a red light and violating the restrictions of his provisional license by driving after hours during the stop Alexis had told the officer we're on a first date me and him to which the officer responded almost getting killed is not the way to have a first date calos was issued three citations and instructed to go directly home tragically within 15 minutes both he and Alexis were pronounced dead at the scene of the devastating crash Alexis Rodriguez an Edgewater native and Bergenfield Resident was a graduate of Fairley Dickinson University with a bachelor's degree in sports management she was known for her loving Spirit enthusiasm and ability to enjoy every moment if there was one thing she loved it was to laugh passionate about life she enjoyed hiking working out and most of all traveling a radiant presence in any room she was always at the Forefront of beauty and fashion trends however her greatest treasures were her family friends and beloved cat Onyx she was the cherished daughter of Alfonso Rodriguez in Barbara nay in clod and a loving sister to Gabriella and AJ Rodriguez Emily and Amanda RH and Samantha Rodriguez she was also a beloved granddaughter niece and friend to many this tragedy serves as a sobering reminder of the deadly consequences of reckless driving two young lives were lost
