Vernon Township police respond to a disturbance on Steamboat Drive and find 20-year-old Gabriella Coen locked inside a BMW, refusing to cooperate. >> Last morning, Gabby, OPEN THE DOOR. >> BREAKING, GAB. GABBY, THEY'RE GOING TO BREAK the window. >> Open the door. >> Last warning. >> Her boyfriend tells officers she's been drinking. >> Notice you were drinking for one >> that was called a joke to leave me alone. >> No, it doesn't seem like a joke. >> No, it's a joke. >> No, open up. >> I'm good. But Gabriella defies commands and threatens to drive off anyway. >> [ __ ] OFF, >> YOU CANNOT. >> I'M LITERALLY ABOUT TO DRIVE AWAY. >> Police warned they'll break the window if she won't exit. She finally does, but the real chaos starts at headquarters. >> I can [ __ ] sit myself. >> Then sit down. Sit down. >> Make me, [ __ ] >> Sit down. Sit down. >> A tough. A tough. She's belligerent, has to be restrained, and when it's time for the breath test, you won't believe what she does. Keep watching because it's not the breath test that traps her. It's the way she tries to beat the test on camera. >> You will be subject to various penalty. On November 5th, 2021, at approximately 1:40 a.m. in Vernon Township, New Jersey, police respond to Steamboat Drive for a disturbance and find 20-year-old Gabriella Coen locked inside her BMW, refusing to get out. She admitted she's been drinking and threatening to drive away, but police can't let that happen. You won't believe how much this 20-year-old girl escalates this situation. What starts as a simple step out of the car turns into a confrontation that escalates by the minute. >> Get out of the car, >> Gabby. Just please be calm, >> babe. Please stop. >> Are you going to leave me alone or keep that? >> No, you need to open the window. >> For what? You told us you were drinking for one >> that was called a joke to leave me alone. >> No, it doesn't seem like a joke. >> No, it's a joke. >> No, open up. >> I'm good. >> No, it doesn't matter if you're good. >> Leave me alone. >> There's no opening up and this is not your choice. >> It is my choice. >> No, it is not. Open the door. >> You have been pulled over. Now open up. >> No. What are you going to do? Smash my window? >> Yeah. If it needs to do that, >> then do it. Then do it. >> Is that what you really want? Why would you want that when you could just open up? >> I'd rather not have you shining a light in my [ __ ] car. >> Well, we're going to be shining the lights no matter what. So, why don't you open the door? [screaming] >> Bro, >> open up. >> Yo, EMTT, tell them to leave me alone. >> Gabby, they will leave you alone if you open the door. Just relax. >> Okay, the door is open. No, this is enough. >> Tell them to stop. >> There is no stopping. This is not up to you. >> I love you with all my I need you to stop. Yeah. Like, no. >> You love me. >> Who are they? Nothing. I'm not doing anything wrong. I'm parked in a spot. >> I UNDERSTAND. >> LIKE, [ __ ] OFF, BRO. >> GABBY, YOU CANNOT SEE. >> I'M LITERALLY ABOUT TO DRIVE AWAY. >> BUT THERE'S these [ __ ] [ __ ] >> I'm not going anywhere. >> If you love me, then I'm sleeping here. >> Please, if you love me, >> GET IN MY CAR THEN. >> I'm not. Just please anywhere. No. No. >> Nobody is the enemy. Just relax. >> No. Like, no. Who are they? Nothing. You're nothing. You're either going to come with me and they're going to leave or I'm going to be >> You want to go home? You want to go to sleep? Come on. Open up. Let's just get over with. Please >> open up. >> Just unlock the door. >> Like, this is enough. Like, what do you want from me? >> We want you to get out of the car. >> That sucks. >> Please. >> Come on. Let's go. >> Going anywhere. >> This doesn't need to be this hard. >> EMTT, you tell him to leave and that's it. Like, I'm not going anywhere. >> Listen to him. Step out of the car. Make sure he's >> I'm literally getting arrested for nothing. >> You're not getting arrested. >> Yes, I am. >> No, you're not. Yes, I am because they're [ __ ] pigs. >> You're not getting arrested. >> If you don't listen, you're going to get arrested. >> Like, YOU GUYS ARE [ __ ] >> GABBY. YOU'RE NOT GETTING ARRESTED. >> Why do people make a bad situation even worse? By acting out and defying basic commands. That's the fastest way to turn a simple DUI into a trip to jail, plus extra charges you never had to catch. >> No. No. >> Once the window gets broken, >> then you're in trouble. >> Well, one, because you've been drunk. You've been drinking. You have been drinking? >> No, I actually haven't. >> Yeah, even he said it and you said it before. Okay, so we need you to get out of the car, take a test or two. If you're sober, we'll let you go. >> Okay, great. Then show us that. However, if you don't get out, we're going to break the window and drag you out. >> Just step out of the car. >> I'd rather them break the window and drag you out. >> Gabby, this is a nice freaking car. They don't WANT TO BREAK YOUR [ __ ] WINDOW. STEP out of the car for what? You realize what they're doing, EMTT? Yeah, you're an idiot to get you in trouble. >> You're an idiot. >> If you are fine, you will be left alone. >> You're dumb. >> But if you don't, we're going to have to drag you out. >> Just step out. >> You're an idiot, bro. >> Nobody is trying to put you in trouble. >> You're an idiot, bro. >> I'm not an idiot. >> You're an idiot. >> How am I an idiot? >> Just do it, >> babe. Please stop, babe. Babe, >> do it then. >> Last morning, Gabby, OPEN THE DOOR. GAB, GABBY, THEY'RE GOING TO BREAK THE WINDOW. Just open the door. >> Last warning. >> JUST OPEN THE DOOR. >> I'M NOT DEALING WITH GETTING YOUR WINDOW FIXED. JUST OPEN THE DOOR. >> Pay attention because Gabby exits from the passenger side, but I haven't seen clear evidence showing she was actually in the driver's seat, which is what would typically help establish actual physical control of the vehicle. What are your thoughts on this? >> [ __ ] >> There you go. Come on. Come with us. >> Place your hands behind your back. See, >> this doesn't NEED TO BE HAPPENING IF YOU JUST STEPPED OUT THE DOOR. >> THEY WOULD HAVE DONE THIS ANYWAY. >> NO, they wouldn't have. >> Yes, they would. Are you coming with me? >> Yes, I'm coming with you wherever you're going. >> They're not going to let you. EMTT. >> This didn't mean to happen. >> They would have done that anyways, EMTT, cuz they're cops. >> I don't know how it works. Okay, that's not the point. >> Emit, I've been through this. >> Okay, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Let go of the phone, Gabby. >> Relax. I love you. Relax. >> Let go of the phone, Gabby. We don't want you to break the phone. Let go of your phone. There you go. >> Come with me. >> Relax. If you love me, just relax. I didn't know. >> No, you're coming right next to me. >> For what? For what? Like, you see what they [ __ ] did for no reason? >> Why didn't you just get out THE FIRST TIME? >> BECAUSE THEY'RE COPS. THEY'RE BEE. They do nothing. >> I'm coming with you. >> No. Come right next to me. >> He's coming right next to me. >> Babe, nobody. >> NO. YES, HE IS. YES, HE IS. >> YES, he is. >> You don't seem to understand. This is not your choice. >> In your pocket anymore. Sticker stab. >> Like, you realize like I need you with me. I need you with me. Look, she's she she drank a little bit. I don't know why she's acting out so much. She to be home and relaxing. I don't know why this is happening. I know. She should have just got out of the vehicle right away. and this whole thing could have been over with, but I I just really >> I don't want to see this happen to her. Like, >> is there a way you guys could arrest me and bring me with her? Like, I'm not >> like, as crazy as that sounds, I just don't want her being in there alone because >> the way she gets all >> You'd be separated in the rooms anyway. >> Well, but like in the car, like I just can't like >> one just male and female can't go in the same car. >> I mean, I understand when no one underest. It's just that just can't happen. Yeah. >> I mean, be welcome to sit down at the station if you want, but you wouldn't be able to back where she's getting processed. You wouldn't be with her. >> Okay. >> Well, we can get you there. >> Okay. >> All right. >> So, I mean, it's up to you to if you wanted to her place or you wanted to come. >> I really just want to be with her. I don't This is I >> like she's she's not trying. She didn't mean to do any of this. I'm sorry that she was saying what she was saying and same to you and you >> she just drank a little bit and she gets in a mood and I'm sure you guys deal with things like that but >> like I really hate seeing her like this. Um, >> so EMTT, do you want to go back to her place or are you just going to go from the station? >> No, I'll come. Yeah. >> Okay. I can give you a ride in my car down the stage. I said you can't be with her in the process. You just you'd have to wait in the lobby. >> Yeah, I'll see her eventually. Right. >> Eventually. But >> either EMTT needs to walk away and find a new girlfriend or at the very least never let her drink again. But now that she's in the patrol car and headed to processing, you'd think things would calm down. Instead, Gabby turns it up a few more notches once they arrive. >> We have a phone at station. You can use phone. >> Okay. So, >> yeah. >> All right. So, it's >> going. >> The officer even goes out of his way to give EMTT a ride to the station so he can be there when Gabby is released. >> So, you said there's a buzzer right over there to the right of the door. >> No problem. >> Once they arrive at the station, getting Gabby out of the patrol car is the easy part. It's what happens during processing that turns into a whole different battle. Get these [ __ ] things off of me. >> All right. Well, first we have to get you out of the car. Come on. >> Get these [ __ ] things OFF OF ME RIGHT THE [ __ ] NOW. >> GET THEM OFF right now. >> Well, TAKE THEM OFF BECAUSE IT'S BETTER THAN [ __ ] HURTING SOMEBODY. A tough. >> You don't seem to realize you're making it worse for yourself. How many charges do you want tonight? This could have been over in 2 seconds. You didn't even have to be arrested. >> I didn't even have to be hurt. >> You didn't have to be anything. >> I didn't have to be cooperated. I'm [ __ ] taking >> And you made it worse. So now you're going to get all kinds of charges. >> You guys made it worse. >> You made it worse. >> I'm going to read you a statement. You have to listen to this, okay? PLEASE. PLEASE. I didn't mean to. Like, I have The department redacted Gabby's final statement from the footage, possibly because it touches on something sensitive that could help explain her behavior. And if alcohol is in the mix, it only pours gasoline on the fire. So, here's the question. Do you think Gabby is finally about to calm down or is she just getting started? >> Calm down. >> I have a couple questions. >> Calm down. answer some of his questions and if we could see that you could become I will take those off. Even if we take the cuffs off, you still can't see him. >> He told you you can't see him. We're going to be real with you. You can't see him until we're done here. I don't work like right now. We have somewhere to be. It's called work. >> Gabby's been calm for a moment, and it looks like the officers are about to remove the cuffs, which could turn out to be a serious mistake. >> It's been a minute. >> Gabby, how old are you? >> Uh, don't know. Been a minute. >> Okay. Are you going to be calm or you going to be combative? >> We'll see. >> Well, so far you're not even answering our questions. >> Oh, I meant calm for sure. >> Mhm. And I said, "Become and answer our questions." And you said you wouldn't answer the age. >> Okay. I will. I will. I will. If these come off. >> Hold it. >> If these come off. >> That wasn't part of the deal. You said >> you'd become and answer questions. >> If these come off, then I'll answer questions. Come on. >> Gabby, where were you born? >> Oh, I think there's cops out of these though. >> Oh, they're going to sit on you for right now cuz obviously you're still going to be combative. >> I'm not combative. You You take them off. They then I answer questions. Easy. It's called Learn How to Be a Cop, bro. What the [ __ ] It's called I was born in Sleepy Hollow, New York. >> Okay, >> here we go. >> Take these. [music] >> This is not being combative. [music] Who I am. >> It's not helping your case to get the cuffs off either. >> How? Wait, what are you saying? >> It's not helping your case to get the cuffs off either. >> It's not really doing anything wrong. I'm just making music. >> All right. Well, you stick to that story. What's wrong with that story? It's called the truth. >> Like what? >> You're not doing anything to help yourself, Abby. [music] >> Whatever. >> What tattoos do you have? I got tattoos on your What are your tattoos? >> Awesome. Good job. >> All right. So, tattoos on your right, left arm. >> [music] >> Butterfly in a left hand. >> Butterfly left hand. >> Butterfly. >> I'm getting cozy. Sorry. Right or left handed. >> Um, ambidextrous. >> That means both if you didn't know. >> Are you currently employed? Um, sometimes. >> Okay. Who do you work for? What's your employer? >> Whoever I want it to be. >> What's the phone number for you, Gary? >> 973 69 69 69 69. Okay. You want to keep playing games? You want to keep playing jokes and the cuffs are staying on? >> Really? >> Um, you're not getting used to this for the shift problems, right? >> Uh, yeah. >> So, we'll probably have to be staying Well, at least he'll definitely be have to be staying some overtime to get that done cuz >> cuz she's not going to be cooperative. >> Is she refused? >> Uh, no. She screamed a thousand times that she was going to do it. >> Okay. >> But she got obstruction. >> Oh, she's going to get obstruction aggravated assault. >> Yeah. >> Disorderly conduct. >> Yeah. >> After officers compare notes on the charges Gabby's facing, they move to the next step. The breath test to measure her blood alcohol level. But the way she behaves during the test leaves even the officers surprised. If you thought she was done being defiant, think again. Keep watching because she pulls one more move that turns this whole process into a circus. >> Should we start it over? >> Yep. >> What if I test 20-minut? >> Should I pee in my shoe? >> Just have to wait till after the test. >> What if I really have to pee? >> Just have to wait till after the test. >> What if I can't hold it till then? Pee in my shoe. I suggest you hold it. >> What if I can't? Like it's like you know how like people need a [ __ ] and like they're like oh the turtle head is coming. It's like that but with my pee. >> Oh maybe I could pee in my sweatshirt. I have a shirt on this. [snorts] I'm about to just pee in my sweatshirt, bro. Like this actually is about to come out. Should I do it? Like, I don't know. >> You're going to be very uncomfortable if you do. >> Just hold it. >> I mean, if I pee in my sweatshirt, >> I can't hold it any longer, guys. It's about to come out, >> guys. What do I do? >> Oh my god, I'm about to pee. >> Hey, we're starting the clock over anyway. >> Even if I pee, >> we're starting the clock over again now. Anyway, >> again, >> no, you we just started it 2 minutes ago, right? >> Yeah. 4:23. >> All right. You really have to pee? I really have to. >> I got to go cuz we got to start the clock over again anyway. >> Let me go, please. It's gonna smell so bad in here. >> Okay, let me take the cup off you. >> Sorry. Do this down here. I need a manicure. Do these have to go back on? >> Not if you're nice and calm. >> Okay, I'll be calm. I'll be calm. >> Stay calm. >> I'll be calm. I'll be calm. >> We do need to take this question, though. Okay. >> You have to take it. >> Yeah. >> You got to put it back on, though. >> You can't have it on you right now. >> Oh, okay. Take it to the female. >> So, follow me. Okay. Right here. Just trying to basically keep her calm cuz the more she freaks out, the longer it's going to be here. We got to do use of force report before we leave. >> Yeah. >> So, I'm assuming we're going to be here overtime anyway cuz >> she's finally cooperative. We got to start the clock over again anyway. >> Keep it. >> Yeah, >> cuz I wanted to start it when when I asked you the first time. >> There's a button up top to plug it >> because uh she was spitting on her cuffs. So that's why when I asked you the time, that's when I started it then. All right. Come on. Police are preparing to administer Gabby's breath test and she does everything she can to sabotage the results. Just have a seat right over here. Put the car down. >> Okay. I'm going to hold it to you while you do it, but I want you to take a deep breath and blow into the mouthpiece with one long continuous breath. Continue to blow until I tell you to stop. Do you understand the instructions? You take as deep a breath as you can and keep blowing. Ready? Deep breath in. In as deep as you can. Blow. Hard. Hard. Blow. Blow. Blow. Keep going. Keep going. Keep going. Keep going. Okay. You should be good. >> All right. >> Just going to have a seat back in there. We just have to do it one more time. Then you'll be done. >> What is it right now? >> It doesn't tell you until we're done. >> Y. >> What is the other? >> No. Until you get two good breath samples. It doesn't tell you. >> Two good tests. >> Okay. So, I just have to read it to you again. I want you to take a deep breath and blow into the mouthpiece with one long continuous breath. Continue to blow until I tell you to stop. Do you understand the instructions? >> Oh, that didn't count. >> I understand. I understand. I understand. I understand. >> Matter of No, I didn't. No, I didn't. No, I didn't. No, I didn't. That was not That was literally fake. I went like this. Uh, like that was fake. >> Yeah, we can't. >> So, I have to start all over again. >> All over again. >> NO, NO, NO. I DIDN'T. I DIDN'T. I DIDN'T. >> You did. And it's on camera. >> On camera. Everything's on camera. Gabby, come on. >> Come on. >> Gabby burps and insists it was an accident. But in a DUI breath test, that matters. When someone burps or vomits, alcohol from the stomach can come back up into the throat and mouth. That mouth alcohol can artificially spike a breathalyzer reading, even if the person's true blood alcohol level is lower. That's why most DUI breath test procedures require an observation period, often 15 to 20 minutes, where officers make sure you don't burp, vomit, eat, drink, smoke, or put anything in your mouth. If you burp during that window, they typically restart the timer to protect the accuracy of the test, which is exactly why they just reset Gabby's clock. So, was it really an accident, or is she trying to game the test? And will she do it again? [ __ ] >> I mean that was an intentional burp, too. >> You said you restarted it a couple times, right? >> We Yeah, cuz she >> kept burping. >> She burped and she spit and things like that. >> Yeah, I think I might >> cuz we have So I We have to like >> She did it intentionally. Yeah, >> she's intentionally she's intentionally defined the test. >> No, I didn't. No, I didn't. I didn't say that. >> By now, these officers sound exhausted and probably frustrated. Earlier, they mentioned paperwork and overtime, which usually means this call is chewing up the end of their shift, and Gabby doesn't seem interested in making it easier. If anything, it feels like she's determined to make the rest of their night as miserable as she thinks they made hers, ignoring the fact that she created this situation in the first place. And because she burped during the observation period, they're now treating it as a refusal, which can trigger an automatic 12-month driver's license suspension. I never had >> Yeah, I never had this either. >> Never had one. >> What am I doing? Oh my god. Yo. Oh my god. >> Adam, what's printer? >> What's printer? >> Printer. >> There you have it. Gabby's breath test is marked as a refusal and officers move forward with processing. She was arrested for DUI and taken to the Vernon Township Police Headquarters where the attitude didn't stop. She stayed belligerent, uncooperative, and had to be physically restrained while officers try to complete the basics. Even the breathalyzer turns into a battle with Gabby repeatedly trying to disrupt the process. Once she's processed and fingerprinted, she's released to her boyfriend after he signs a potential liability warning form on her behalf. Gabby leaves that night with a stack of summones, including operating under the influence, reckless driving, refusal to submit to a chemical test, battery on a law enforcement officer, and obstructing the administration of law.
