From Applebee's? Yeah, I had a drink. Okay. How old are you? 21. You're 21? My dad is a Listen, your bumper's in the road over there. I know. Okay, did you just hit that pole? No, I promise you I did not. No? Your bumper's in the middle of the road over there, and there's a pole down. This part was hanging off already. So, I already hit something. I I hit a deer in Pennsylvania. Do you smoke marijuana recreationally? No? smoke marijuana. I do not smoke marijuana universally. You see this? I hit a deer before this. You can ask my dad. This piece fell off at the traffic light that you hit, that you knocked over. Where were you coming from? I came from Applebee's. I had one drink. I promise. Okay. On December 28th, 2022, around 11:00 p.m. in Howell Township, New Jersey, police responded to a hit-and-run call on Lanes Mill Road after a traffic light was knocked down, blocking traffic. Witnesses reported seeing a white Toyota leaving the scene. Officers found a white Toyota with front-end damage at the Wawa gas station, driven by 21-year-old Teresa Lee. She admitted to having a drink at Applebee's, but denied hitting the pole. Even when police matched a piece of bumper from the scene to her car. Instead, she continues to blatantly lie and keeps claiming she hit a deer in Pennsylvania. Lee makes it a point to keep mentioning her father is a sheriff deputy and that she's a soccer captain at her college. This video begins as officers respond to the scene. Let's see how lying while intoxicated plays out and whether her father makes a difference. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. Just the caller? No. Oh. Do you want to uh just go check 9 South real quick? Yeah, we're going to go. White player with the white Yeah, there's a white bumper here. All right, base, be advised we have a white bumper. Yeah. Yep. Okay. What kind of car was it? It was a I think a white Toyota. A white Toyota? Do you have a license plate by chance? I tried to, but the car was moving. Okay, any distinguishing characteristics on it or just a white? I couldn't see if it was. Okay, was it a four-door or two-door? Uh 670, I'm going to check 9 South. It was a really small car like this. Okay. That works. Be advised. They stated it was a Toyota, four-door. Possibly a Camry or similar model. Possibly 9 South, possibly crossed over 9, and they continued all the way down towards Penn. All right, we'll get there. That works. No other description on the vehicle or driver. Uh I beg your pardon? What's up? You see those lights? I can park wherever I want. Plus, there's a road hazard in case you can't see. I see that. I know you got those big glasses there, but What's up? What's up, man? Yeah. Took it Took it out. Took it out? Peel out, took off. Yep. Yep. Yep. So, now I got to figure out who's responsible for this one. Yeah, thanks. Later. Base, do you know who we can charge with this traffic light here? That works. It's going to be on the north side of Lanes Mill, near the entrance for Lowe's. What is this? That one works. These ones work, so the light will still function. I know the owner of the property for BJ's had it installed there. So, we don't know if we took them over or if they're still handling the property. That one. That one. Yeah, we're going to try uh BJ's first for charge of their traffic light. 9 South, I think they took it. That works. Base, can you just advise Lakewood? Here's the damage is going to be the front passenger side. And they left a piece of the bumper off probably around the headlight area. Yep. Just like the information on the actual traffic light. I think I got it at Wawa. 9 4 at Wawa. 2090 Papa Alpha numeric, white Subaru. I'm going to try to push this side. You try to push that side. We'll just try and see if we can clear the roadway a little bit here. Okay. Uh don't touch any of those wires. You got it. If it doesn't go, if it doesn't doesn't go, don't force it. All right, on three. Ready? 1 2 3. See if we can both pick that up. Yeah, we should be able to. That looks like the 365 player. Yeah, there you go. What's that person saying? You good? Yep. All right. If anybody's in the area, he's bringing some cones out. We're able to move it off the side of the road a little bit more. Make it passable. All right, let's go over to uh go to Wawa. Uh drive through flares real quick. 665, we're just going to flare this alpha out. Uh we're going to head over to Wawa. Wawa. Thanks. What they're missing the cap? Uh here, hold this. Hold the watch. Is there a way to something? All right, so grab one with the cap. We'll light one. And then light the rest. Back. We'll use that back one since that's useless over there. Grab that one, too. And then uh put this water over here. That still got a little flames. So, keep lights on. Hold up. That's where the intersection 670, do you have another unit out with you? Negative. They just flared off the traffic light. We're heading over to Wal-Mart now. Town 4, can you bring her bumper here? Affirm, we have it. from um Hi, everyone. uh Applebee's. You come back from Applebee's? a drink. Okay. How old are you? 21. You're 21? My dad is a um Uh So, he told me he Who's that? Sean Lynn. Sean Lynn, okay. All right. I'm sorry. My um I think I left my wallet at Applebee's. All right, just keep your hands out of your pockets, please. Okay. It's okay. So, you you're coming from Applebee's right now? Yeah, I had a drink. Okay. Which way did you take to go from Applebee's to here? Um I went around um at the light and Route 9 and I came back from here and then around back and then here cuz I was So, you what you what So, you went over by like Lowe's? No, the light You came out of Applebee's? I came out of Applebee's to the light. To the light? Yeah, the light the Lowe's, I guess, right there, right? You cut through Applebee's, right? You went through the plaza, you came out by Lowe's, by Chick-fil-A, you made a right and hit the traffic light right there. Okay. Did you hit that pole that's over there? No. You didn't hit the utility pole? anything. Cuz your bumper's in the middle of the road. No, my um I hit the So, do you see on this side? Yeah. I hit this Okay. at my um How long ago? Uh like about a month ago my ex's. Okay. Because he broke up with me and I broke up with him and All right, go hang it out back over there. Keep your hands out of your pockets, please. It's okay. I'm sorry. Listen. Your bumper's in the road over there. Oh, yeah. Okay, did you just hit that pole? No, I promise you I did not. No? So, someone brings that bumper over here so I can match up perfectly. You're coming from Applebee's, you're telling me. You went out that way. Everything's matching up. The witnesses said they saw a white car cross over in this direction and I happen to find your car parked here The bumper was in with no with no bumper. The bumper was in the road. Okay. All right. 670, do you have another unit out with you? Um my dad, he's a sheriff's of All right. Hang out. I have those cards. What's up? So, he moved it off to the side of the road. He should be coming back. Negative. They just flared off the traffic light. We're heading over to Wal-Mart now. Town 4, can you bring her bumper here? Affirm, we have it. So, Teresa. Yes. Let me ask you again. Yeah. You left Applebee's. Yeah, I left Applebee's You cut through the plaza, you came out by Lowe's and Chick-fil-A. Did you hit the traffic pole that's right there? I didn't hit the traffic pole. Do you not remember hitting a traffic pole? I did not hit the traffic pole, I promise you. So, your bumper's in the middle of the road over there and there's a pole down. This part was hanging off already cuz I already hit something. Okay. When I I hit a deer in Pennsylvania cuz I go to school in and the the this part was hanging off already. Okay. Do you smoke marijuana recreationally? No? smoke marijuana. What are you prescribed that you put you had when I athlete. I understand. What's the prescription medicine that you had that I Can I call my dad who's a sheriff's officer? Let the one officer come here who's who's out with your other part of your bumper. He's going to talk to you and then we'll go from there, okay? What You go to college? Yes, I go to media. I am a soccer captain there. Okay. I do not smoke marijuana university. Do you do any recreational drugs? Are you prescribed anything else? That's it? Uh just hang out with this officer for a second, okay? I'm needing for a conference. Teresa's her name. Car comes back to her dad or somebody else. That's great. You you smashed you smashed the traffic light and it left here in an accident. Well, the scene's over there, you're over here. This piece fell off at the traffic light in Pennsylvania but now you hit something. Let's be honest. Let's be honest. How old are you? I'm 21. 21? I had a drink at Applebee's and like I'm scared out of my mind right now. But Teresa, I told you I explained to you this before. Lying isn't going to get you anywhere. We just need to know the truth. Just lie. Just lie. We just caught you in a We just found this piece over by the traffic light by Lowe's. You said you said that piece fell off in Pennsylvania. You told me you hit a deer, you told me you hit a whole bunch of stories. You just hit a telephone pole by the traffic light and that's where this piece was. This piece fell off at the traffic light that you hit. That you knocked over. Lying doesn't help anything. Where were you coming from? I came from Applebee's. I had one drink at Applebee's. Okay, after Applebee's, where'd you go? I I came from there at the the traffic light that's right there and then I came around and there because my house is I would have to go from my traffic light so there Okay, that doesn't really make too much sense, either, considering that the traffic light that you took out was on the corner. Which corner? Of the back entrance of Lowe's. The back entrance of Lowe's. Lowe's is right Town 4. I have to go around there so I have to go around there to the highway right there. Here's I'm just going to draw this out for you. So, here's the corner for the back entrance to Lowe's. Your vehicle came and impacted it on the passenger side hitting the traffic light. That means that you were coming from down in a different part of Lanesville Road. You see that highway Applebee's right there? Yeah. Okay, so I would go that way. I would go that way which Lowe's is right there. Then I would go to traffic lights to the LA Fitness which is right there which is my gym. Then I would go that way which is goes down to the Quick Check which is that way and then I would make the right that is that way and then the straight highway My dad Yeah, that does that doesn't make too much sense considering where the damage was where the utility took that was. So, here, ready? Lanesville Road. Yes. Lowe's is on the right. You hit the traffic You hit the traffic light on the right hand side of Lowe's with the passenger side of your vehicle which is where this piece was which matches identically which didn't fall off in Pennsylvania but fell off on Lanesville Road. I know it fell in Pennsylvania. I know that. I hit a deer in Pennsylvania. Well, you also hit a telephone pole today or traffic light today. it. And I'm I must hit something, sir. I'm sorry. So, you you don't know that you hit a a traffic light. I did not hit a traffic light, sir. So, you mean to tell me that's just coincidence that this was on not hit a traffic light today. So, again, do you mean to tell me that this is just a coincidence that this piece was found right next to a traffic light? I was coming home from my boyfriend's house the one day where I hit a uh crosswalk. If you would just call my dad, who's a sheriff's officer, he would tell you this. I hit um a traffic uh uh What's up? Yeah. She's got guacamole everywhere. She's got guac everywhere. I was trying to figure out what the green stuff was and I saw it. Chips and guac. Yeah, I know. Yeah, I don't know. What's this? in Pennsylvania, I'm saying that I hit a I said something in here and this damaged this here and then I must have hit something today and then this fell off. I'm not saying that I'm lying. I'm saying like And I'm and I'm I'm explaining to you that you hit a traffic light at the corner of Lanesville Road and Buckeye and Lowes. Okay. And then you left the scene. I did not leave. Did Did you call 911 to report it? No, I didn't I didn't know Did you drive over here? So, you want to see the scene? Did you report it? I was getting gas cuz I was at zero. What What Is that traffic light that is right in the middle by Lowes and LA Fitness right there? That one? So, it's the one on the corner on the corner. Yeah. Lanesville Road Yeah. on the corner. Yeah. If you were to go to the back entrance to Lowes Yeah. It's the one right before that entrance on the Lowes side. On the Lowes side? Yeah, this tire is all this rim's all messed up too on this side. So, I That's already messed up That's what it was? from the other accident. That was right next to Yeah, I know. I was at Dunkin Donuts and the guy backed into me and this this accident. Listen, are you just scared you're going to get tickets or something? Yes. Is that all it is? Yes. So, you want to just tell the truth? Yes, I'm telling you this So, after Applebee's, did you hit a traffic pole? I think I hit something. I remember hitting something. You can't miss it. It lights up. It's red, green, and yellow. I remember hitting something after Applebee's. I'm not saying like the And then did you drive away cuz you're scared cuz you had maybe had one drink and you think you're drunk and you might get arrested, but you don't seem like you're drunk. Yes. Is that what's going on? So, you drove away cuz you're scared so you might get some tickets and maybe you might get arrested. Is that why? Yes. Okay, so now we're starting to tell the truth, right? I remember hitting something, but I remember like like from like before this, I already hit something and he he was So, you're saying there was some damage, but obviously your bumper is over there like this officer was saying. Okay. Okay. Okay, but it fell off on Lanesville where the pole is in the middle of the road. Okay. Well, see here's the thing. Your dad the Your dad the sheriff's officer wasn't driving your vehicle tonight. Your dad the sheriff's officer Okay, you're 21, you're an adult. We're trying to figure out what happened with you and driving and leaving the scene of the crash. You hit a traffic signal. No, I hit a curb. Yeah, you went up the curb, you hit the traffic signal, the traffic signal fell down, and you left. That's why and I really had damage. I still I'm just trying to figure out how cuz if you went the back entrance to come out of the Lanesville Marketplace, that that still doesn't make sense. The damage should be on the driver's side. Because this is where you hit the the the traffic light. If I came out of Again, I'm I'm I'm telling you I'm I'm telling you that your story doesn't make sense. Wait, that is that way. So, what is it? It looks like she that it looks like she was going east on Lanesville, but she's saying she was going west. The damage is here. But and and that's I was going that way. All right. All right. I'm I'm talking right now. Okay? Talk to her. Talk to her. Talk to her. So Let Let me Let me talk. This is where [ __ ] gets messed up. The damage was minor. Okay? So I was at Applebee's, I went that way. I hit a curb that way. Which is that way. Which is that road that goes the back way is to the Jackson Quick Check that is like right there and like my house. Give your dad a call now that we figured out what's happening and you're telling somewhere of the truth. I still just don't understand how she comes out of that exit. I don't Is that bag with guac that's on your face and all over your car? Is that from Applebee's? That's from Applebee's? That's an Applebee's bag? Uh it's not an Applebee's bag. So, you coming from Applebee's or you coming from somewhere else? Is that from tonight? Agave's. Where? It's right there. It's right next to Applebee's. I don't know. She said it's that. IHOP? Teresa. I just need to talk to one of the officers. Yeah, I think I think she's scared she's hanging out with a boy or something and the dad is I don't know. This makes no sense at all. Yeah, she doesn't want Yeah, exactly. Something like that. She She spun around or something or she's going to a guy's house or something. Who knows? Yeah, Teresa. So, what's your guy's name? It's John, right? Hey John, how are you? How bad's that light? What's up? How bad's that light? It's down. It's like in the middle of the road. We were able to move it out of the road a little bit more. We're all nice. You You were texting, you hit a pole, it fell, you drove away. Just let this officer talk to your dad, okay? Okay. Okay, did she did she get to a crash that day? Okay. Okay. Okay, where What did she What was the deal with that crash? Where's the damage on the car? Okay, any damage on that car on that car there? I think if I'm trying to remember off the top of my head. It was like the front right bumper and down the side there was some denting and scratching going down the side. Okay, how bad was the front bumper? It was the front bumper, yes. How bad was the front bumper? Oh, how bad? It was Yeah, there was a little bit little bit of damage. I mean, like I said, it was a it was very drivable. I've had plenty of calls today to get an appointment for an estimate for it. But like so like the fog light area was kind of about the same kind of thing. Okay, that's the bottom section. Okay. All right. Cuz uh it looks like the fog the fog light thing that's I don't know if it's a fog light or if it's like a plastic piece. Like So, that's gone. The the bumper's cracked and then there was a another piece of the bumper right below the headlight that fell off by the traffic light that she took out. Okay. All right. Yeah, she took it down. And then she was trying to say that the the one piece that was newly missing from this incident was in Pennsylvania uh from the other crash. So, I just wanted to talk to you and get, you know, a better idea of what actually happened there. I I The only thing I know is that the there was the I don't know. It's like a like a rectangle black thing that was missing. The bumper was was that small little piece you're talking about. So Okay. So, where that like Yeah, so where that rectangle black thing is, there's a a white piece of plastic. So, that came off in this crash. The bumper's like kind of hanging, but it is drivable. Um So, that's that's kind of that's kind of where we're at right now with this. All right, no problem. Uh can I come out? Are you guys out there? Uh that's up to you. I'll I'll see if she wants you to come out if she wants, you know, you to drive her home. Yeah, she's at the uh the Wawa on uh by Kent Road. Oh, okay. Got you. So, yeah, uh I think it might be best if you come cuz like I said, she's she's upset and still very nervous. So, okay. Yeah, I I I appreciate it. I'll be Let me come out there and I'll and I'll I'll see you guys. Thank you. Thank you. Okay. All right, sounds good. All right, thanks. All right. I think she lost her license maybe when I first asked her, but she was still frantic before. Uh no, I think it's a fob. You left it at Applebee's? She said you had it. No, I didn't. Bang, the pole got knocked Probably. I asked her if when I first pulled here and she showed she opened her wallet and it was empty. You know? Okay. Is that I was going to call him next. He's coming out. I think it's right here. License it fell? Is it? What What does it look like? This is Celsius. Is it on a blue and white lanyard? What? Yes, yes. Blue and Is it What is it in between the door and the passenger? Okay. It's between the door there. Oh, okay. Yeah, that's what was going on. He said, "All right." Yeah. Yeah, you can grab it. Nice shine job, kid. Did I block in your car? Yeah. This is my main license. No, no, no. I don't I just need the registration and insurance. How far is your house from here? Almost like 5 minutes? Yeah. Yeah, you guys can come out. Just because you're still very upset, so. Yeah, take that one. Just the insurance card. Uh no, this is the roadside service. Got the roadside service? Yeah, you can Hey, uh come back. Who's the policy on? Uh 45. It's the same policy though, right? What? He told you it was the accident? Yeah. What's uh what's your phone number? Surprised there's so little damage. What's that? Surprised there's so little damage. Yeah. I was taking out the pole, talking. Unless this is what is throwing me off, unless that's old. Unless what she popped it she swerved back up to the curb. makes sense. Like coming out of that plaza She was like, "Well, where was she's There's no Mexican place." Right here that I can think of is like Chipotle. Or the place in Renton. Coming back. She went up whatever and came out came up Lanes Mill to go back across towards Jackson. So, where'd you get the walk in only? All right. So, she went that way. That also doesn't make sense in the fact Yeah, apparently so this piece is missing a piece. This is like the front. Yeah. Um she came out of that light. No, it doesn't Yeah, cuz she came out of the light, made a right doesn't make sense. Is there a way to go all the way out there? I don't even know if you can Can you get to that light from Arugula's or do you have to go out to come back around? It's Maybe it's possible she went through Arugula's, came out, went into LA Fitness came out, took the turn too wide. She was texting. She said she's pulling around, right? Do you think she tried to make like that U-turn there and just blasted the light? So, did you go to Arugula's before or after Applebee's? After Applebee's. I think that's it. It's really confusing like the direction of travel and how she should be on that side. Well, that's why it doesn't make sense. I don't get it. She also said it was Applebee's and then she said she went to Arugula's. Uh right up the curb that he went to Arugula's. Yeah, that's what I was just saying to him. Unless she came out of Arugula's, realized she was going the wrong way tried to whip it and as she whipped it blasted it on that side tried to adjust after hitting it popped the curb on this side. Hm, that makes sense. Yeah. If that's what she did. Yeah. Cuz coming this way makes sense if she's going back to Jackson. Then realize she's on East, so she pops in here tries to get gas. Either way, if she's leaving from Applebee's or Arugula's, you're not going that way. Still doesn't make up. What's that? She still doesn't make up. She said she was at Applebee's. Then she went to Arugula's to get the walk in only. I asked her how she got like back, which way she went. And she said she went She like took the jug handle to go across Lanes Mill, which that doesn't make any sense either. No. She's on the truth here. I I don't know. Still just like not making sense. Cuz what she did she hit the pole. She's going this way. This pole here pole falls over and that falls off. Yeah, cuz I I mean can you even get to that light from Arugula's? Doesn't Arugula's have its own So, Arugula's on the side you come out by like the crossover. No, but I'm saying like on the side on Lanes Mill, doesn't it have its own entrance? On Lanes Mill, yeah, if you come out by I don't know if it has its own exit by the back or before the back or if you have to go through like uh the AutoZone or whatever one's there. But either way though, there's that like curb separation between where makes sense. Cuz if she came out this way not paying attention, she clips it and then she adjusts and clips the curb on this side. left. That's what she did. She probably came out, realized she was going the wrong way. She's on her phone or doing whatever. She's like, "Oh, look, I can just do this. Nobody's coming." Kadoosh. Auto curb auto clips. Over adjusts. That's how she gets the damage on this side. She kept going, came back down over the curb. And then driven the whole pole off the road. Yeah, we just pushed it over to the side. For an LA, different story. Yeah. Okay. Give him a call after. Say where he's at. I assume he's leaving headquarters, but I don't know. He didn't want to call you cuz he figured you were doing whatever. Yeah. I don't know if I should be blood shot. I don't think Probably. Just what you're saying just doesn't make sense. Which I don't get why if like all she did was hit the pole instead. You know what I'm saying? If all she did was hit the thing, why just tell us what she did. Yeah. You know what I mean? What is she so scared of? That's what I don't get. What is she so freaked out about? I mean I guarantee she's like Yeah, the license and everything here. Okay. So, what's the This guy right here. What's What's up? So, what she's saying like and where the damage was everything just doesn't really make too much sense, so tried to get some more information out of her, but Figured I don't know if it was stolen after tonight. What's that? You know, somebody in Zarella now? No, not tonight. No, that's not it tonight. Tonight. Uh so, she This is at the Lanes Mill. Yeah, so you know where back entrance to Lowe's is? Yes. Where like LA Fitness is in that intersection? Yes. So, look at the telephone pole by the Lowe's side. So, it came down. Came down. And then that piece of bumper there is there. But what she described with the other damage the other black piece obviously Yeah, no, it was more than that. I mean that I mean that's more than it was. Okay. Yeah. So, with the other one was it just like the bumper wasn't hanging like that? Yeah, no. So, what it was is um basically this was intact. Okay. Um this piece was missing, but these scratches here Those were all from That's all from uh the gear that she Okay. Okay. Okay. Um So, that's the big Okay. Cuz once you described it to me, I was doesn't make any sense. You know, people will do power to pick up the traffic light. Surprised that's the amount of damage. Okay. So what who was the Who's officer? So right now this is going to be my call. Okay, got you. Okay, who's your Not that much. I'm just asking. Um so what is it looking like now That's pretty Um 15 All right. She was Something like that. Something like I I think they they didn't return that. Okay. Because she said she was at Applebee's. Then she went to a Ruby's. Then left Ruby's. So So So in Ruby's if she goes down Main Street Just to surprise you or something. I I got off work, left shift, I'm going to walk to Warren Square, right? So just I I want to just want to show you this so you can see it. Uh I don't know what time you you initiated the stop. Uh You home 10:39. So what time did you stop her at? Because she probably got nervous and I'm not saying that's but we know that's not an excuse. I get it. But what do you think time do you think that initial call came? It's because she probably hit it and was like, "Dad, what the [ __ ] do I do?" Probably I would say somewhere between 10:45 and 11:00. That's about right. Hey sergeant. How are you? 10:50 Uh right. So that would probably be about the time she hit it. About what time? She texted me originally at 10:00. I was trying to get some sleep. I just got off work. Um she said you home at 10:39. Yeah, that's about Yeah, that's about when I was walking out. Yeah, about that. Say somewhere we got it. Right. So she hit the thing, got nervous and Okay, did she tell you she was going to Applebee's or Ruby's? Yes. Um Yes. I'm not sure where which one she went to. Yeah. Um but I know that she was going out to either Applebee's or Ruby's. I I think she said she got something at a Ruby's or something. I'm not sure. Waffle Molly's. I I don't know. Yeah, we just weren't sure because like when we're talking to her she wasn't telling us the truth at all. She was what? Wasn't telling us the truth at all. Okay. And we didn't think that damage was old. We're trying to piece everything together. Okay. So you guys were like were you really going this way on the road? Yeah, well she has to well I I don't know who she was hanging out with. She does have an ex-boyfriend. She's off school for the for the the two weeks. So I mean I I mean lying to her because she knows that I'm a cop. She knows she knows not to do that. Teresa was placed under arrest for driving under the influence and transported to Howell Township Police Headquarters. At the station, she agreed to provide breath samples, which revealed a blood alcohol content of 0.172% more than double the legal limit. After processing, Teresa was taken to the hospital for further evaluation. In the end, she was charged with multiple offenses, including operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, reckless driving, failure to report an accident, and leaving the scene of an accident. Teresa was fined $1,500, her driver's license was suspended for 12 months, and her insurance covered the replacement of the traffic light pole she destroyed. Hopefully, she had insurance under her name and not her dad's because she's going to be paying some hefty insurance fees for the foreseeable future. Please leave your comments below and let us know your thoughts on this video. Teresa's dad did the right thing and didn't try to get her out of trouble. In fact, he was the one who told her to sit down in the police car saying, "You're now under arrest for DUI."
