Go lick your dog's [ __ ] On October 12th, 2022 in Bristol, Connecticut, police were called to Bleacher Bar at 300 Middle Street around 8:30 p.m. for a reported fight. Brothers Nicholas and Nathan Brutcher had gone to the bar where Nicholas planned to perform at open mic night, but Nicholas got into a fight that spilled out into the parking lot. At 8:52 p.m., Officer Harrison Pollock located the brothers driving away in a white truck. Nathan, who was behind the wheel, had a suspended license. The truck was towed, and both men, appearing drunk and agitated, were ticketed for creating a public disturbance. Their mother was called to pick them up, but Nicholas initially refused and insisted on walking home. After arguing with officers, he eventually left with his mother. Just 2 hours later, at 10:42 p.m., Nicholas called 911, claiming Nathan was pushing him and asking for police assistance. Officers Sergeant Dustin Damonte, Alex Hamsy, and Alec Urado responded to the Brer home on Redstone Hill Road. As they approached the side door and ordered Nathan to come out with his hands up, what followed was every officer's worst nightmare. This video begins with security footage from the bar and transitions to police dash cam and body cam. Viewer discretion is advised. Heat. Heat. Hey, have fun explaining to your boss where his truck is tomorrow. Skyop Motors towing service arrived at the scene to remove Nicholas Butcher's work truck from the traffic stop. During the process, the tow truck's onboard video captured a brief exchange between Brcher and the driver. Unfortunately, it only captured the audio since out of view. Speaking from the passenger side of the vehicle, Butcher asked about retrieving the truck in the morning. The driver informed him there would be a mandatory 48 hour hold. In response, butcher firmly stated, "No, there isn't. You'll be seeing me in the morning. I got to come pick this car up for me. Yeah, there's a 48 hour hold on it." 48? Yeah. Yep. No, there isn't. I'll be I'll see you in the morning. Okay. Thank you. No, no. I'm going to the shop. He's going inside. Tell him. After being picked up by his mother and returning home from the traffic stop, Nicholas Brusher immediately began preparing for what can only be described as war. He changed into camouflage, readied his weapons, and within 30 minutes at 10:32 p.m., he made a calculated 911 call to lure officers to his home. It raises the question, with everything that had already occurred earlier that evening, should he have been arrested on the spot? Could that decision have changed the outcome of what happened next, or would it have only delayed the inevitable? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. Bristol 911. He opened fire from behind, striking all three officers. Sergeant Dustin Deonte and Officer Alex Hamsy collapsed in the driveway. Officer Alec Urado, despite being shot in the leg, managed to retreat around the house to cover. Brutcher then attempted to continue firing the AR-15 at the downed officers, but the rifle jammed due to an improperly inserted magazine. Switching to a handgun, he continued his assault from behind a police cruiser. Officer Urato, injured and under fire, returned a single shot with his service pistol, striking and killing Nicholas Butcher. Officer Hamsey died at the scene. Sergeant Damonte was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. In total, approximately 80 rounds were fired during the exchange. In the days that followed, the community rallied in support. Within just 11 days, more than $1 million was raised for the families of the fallen officers. Damonte and Hamy became the 149th and 150th officers honored on the memorial wall at the Connecticut Police Academy in Meridan. Tributes poured in. The Miami Dolphins, Damonte's favorite team, honored him during a home game. The New England Patriots also paid tribute to both fallen officers. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, please rise and remove your hats. Tonight we honor Sergeant Alex Hamzia, lifelong Patriots fan, and Lieutenant Dustin Damonte, two veteran Bristol, Connecticut police officers whose lives were tragically taken after they heroically answered a domestic violence call on October 12th. Reports of their deaths were chilling and serve as a reminder of the inherent risks these brave men and women accept to serve and protect us. Tonight, the New England Patriots welcome the Hamsy and Damonte families, their friends, and more than 50 members of the Bristol Police Department as we honor these heroes for their service. Please join us now as we remember their sacrifices with a moment of silence. Thank you. On October 21st, 2022 in East Hartford, nearly 10,000 law enforcement officers and supporters from across the country and even Canada gathered for the funeral service. During the ceremony, Sergeant Damonte and Officer Hamsey were postumously promoted. Damonte to lieutenant and Hamsy to sergeant. Damonte had served the Bristol Police Department for 10 years and Hamsey for eight. Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont attended and spoke at the service stating, "Let Damonte and Sergeant Hamsey are heroes who served with integrity and courage. We will forever keep them and their families in our hearts. But after everything we've seen, the bar fight, the alcohol, the traffic stop, the tow truck incident, and Nicholas Butcher's escalating behavior, it leaves us wondering why weren't they arrested earlier that night? Whether for DUI, public intoxication, or disorderly conduct, taking them into custody might have given time for emotions to settle and tragedy to be avoided. Was that a missed opportunity to prevent what came next? What do you think? Was this a preventable tragedy? How do you feel about the way this incident was handled?
