Keith stated that a woman had been driving at the time of the crash. She gave a description of the woman and claimed the driver had fled in a specific direction. However, there were no visible signs to support this. So officers began searching the area to try and locate the driver. What officers never expected was what they would uncover as they looked deeper into the incident. No, they said she's out. I don't really know. She she said there shouldn't be anybody else in here. We have two people that look like they're out and there's a one driver. They say she should be walking on Leo with a white and navy blue hoodie on. You sure that they went eastbound? While searching the area around the submerged vehicle, officers attempted to recover any documents or objects that might help identify the person responsible. Nothing was discovered aside from the tracks left by Keith and Malcolm as they exited the car. Both individuals had facial injuries, especially Malcolm, who was bleeding from a cut. While paramedics provided treatment, officers took their statements again, this time focusing more on the details. The suspect could not have disappeared without leaving any trace. Keith told officers she had found the driver on Facebook and referred to her as her hood Uber, but admitted she did not know the woman's name. It appeared that neither Keith nor Jones were in any condition to provide reliable information as both were still under the influence of alcohol. The statements and information provided were inconsistent and did not help to move the investigation forward. How would officers get to the bottom of this? I'm gonna go get the drone. Do you have an X10 with you? No history other than with this female driving. Copy. Um, how old's the owner of it? 20. Yeah. Once the vehicle was pulled from the pond and the license plate was run, officers proceeded to the home of the vehicle's registered owner. It would be there the truth finally came to light. The car belonged to Keith's cousin who confirmed that he had lented to her on the night of the incident. And based on that statement, police went to Keith's residence and spoke with neighbors who confirmed that she had been the one driving and not some woman from Facebook. According to one neighbor at the apartment complex, Keith and Jones left together that morning and she was seen behind the wheel. A neighbor also confirmed that Keith had dropped off her children at another neighbor's home before leaving. And after gathering all the information, Keith and Jones were taken into custody. Jones told officers they had both been drinking all morning before the crash, and that Keith had been driving toward a store to buy more alcohol. As she continued driving, she began speeding, reportedly reaching speeds of 100 mph before losing control, hitting several trees, and landing in the pond. Alexis Keith, age 27, was arrested and charged with OVI, reckless operation, and obstruction of official business. She was booked into the Lraine County Jail along with Malcolm Jones who had an active warrant for contempt of court unrelated to this
