the what the Saturday August 19th 2023 Okala Florida officers from the OPD responded to a shooting at the Carlton Arms Apartments upon arrival they had found a female victim who suffered a gunshot wound to her right leg the victim was taken to the hospital for treatment and from there authorities began the search for the suspect and plan their next steps but how easy would that be I'm Tyler and down and arrived at the suspect's location but no sooner had they arrived than they saw a man fleeing the scene the officers pursued him but it was not until the K9 unit intervened and assisted in the capture that the suspect was successfully apprehended was this the person they were looking for was he really the one responsible back up you can back up that's what you can do what's your name no sir searching for according to eyewitnesses the victim had been arguing with the man over the phone the day before and the tension escalated so quickly that Davis ran across the parking lot towards the victim fired several shots and then fled the scene no one knew what was coming next for the officers as something was about to make their job a whole lot more complicated can you my car is back there could be treated they noticed the suspect's mother had followed them in her vehicle seemingly to protect their son from being arrested when in reality her actions weren't helping at all I understand tried to keep the suspect's mother from interfering with the arrest but she kept threatening authorities and making things even more difficult it seemed that she had helped her son to escape trying to supposed to do after examining Dante's injuries and seeing how much pain that he was in the EMS Squad decided to take him to the hospital but something else happened at the scene the suspect wasn't only crying from pain he was also confused and seemed unaware of the crime that had occurred and little by little officers began to question whether this was truly the person they were [Music] after it's just procedure it's for everyone's it's for everyone's safety Dante was taken to the nearest hospital but officers had to inform him of the reasons for his arrest and the charges against him through tears the man denied being responsible for anything but for the police it was hard to ignore his actions as soon as they arrived at his home no one runs if they're allegedly innocent and [Music] not Dante Leonard Davis age 33 was arrested and taken to the Maran County Jail on felony charges including attempted murder fling or attempting to elude law enforcement and two charges of resisting an officer without violence he also had a criminal record for sexual assault and battery he's facing years in prison probation or restitution depending on the specifics of the crime and his criminal history
