and this is your daily dose of crime [Music] [Music] [Music] around 10 p.m 24-year-old Alandra Daniela Castro Rios was behind the wheel of her red 2016 Dodge Journey and her 5-year-old daughter seated beside her Witnesses later recounted a chilling scene the SUV traveling at an alarming spot speed had veered off the road and plunged into a water-filled ditch along Oslo Road just east of I 95 hey how is the child man how's the baby hi hi my husband got her out of the car she staying her leg Hearts I was trying to lay her down in the back seat how old are you that's fine we're coming yeah she's stuck in the M 226 we're going to have a 5-year-old Child complaining of leg pain she's on oza road itself she said her hip's really bad we got a female driver complaining of hip pain she's out of the vehicle we're going to try to get out the dit standby I'm stuck in a damn car you want me to do ma'am relax yeah we have help coming okay oh no my hi my hi my hi next unit pulling up I'm need some light we're trying to get out of the mud yeah light we can't see it's dark we're trying to get out of the mud she's uh halfway in the mud right now the all right here I'll pull you over ready we ready stay still if you broke something it's going to be worse stay right here for me your babies it's okay it's with my partner all right did we dispatch a second rescue to this all right oh my God oh my gosh you give me a SE caller yeah give me a SE caller so she stops moving please oh my God it's okay hey look at me I know look at me I need you I know stop stay right there it's going to be a trauma alert as well down here a SE collar you're good stay right here mama look at me I know it hurts I need a c collar in backward SL that there straps on that there's no way we can use that without straps all right see CER and I need the foam padding for that you're doing good I know I know I know okay I know lower back and hit pain she can feel her toes but it's out of she seat beled in but right now but she's also having pain down in this pelvic region and it's a little pain to P right now how do you feel any in I don't feel I don't feel breath guys be more light all right look at me it's okay I'm G to slide this behind your head okay yes ma'am you're okay stay still for me no put your head down be a little uncomfortable but it's right stay nice and still for me how long b hey b where's where's myter Florida tag Quebec Tango Romeo it is a red Dodge [Applause] Journey if you can get me a rotation I cannot get you the VIN it is in a ditch about 10t down from the roadway there's about probably at least a foot [Music] and give me a few minutes so bad so bad oh my God God it hurts so bad we're trying to get see if you can no no no hey are you able to just peek in the back door spee or all the kids it was just that one kid oh my God Good Samaritans at the scene would spring into action one individual rescued the young girl from the vehicle while another assisted Castro Ros and escaping the submerged SUV when deputies arrived they noted the suspect exhibited signs of intoxication bloodshot eyes and the unmistakable scent of alcohol further investigation would reveal that she had been driving 95 m per hour in a 45 mph Zone and neither the mother or her child were restrained in a seat belt it would also be revealed that the vehicle lacked a proper car seat for the child yeah she's over there with the SUV hey she's out we got to move quickly she's went out on us got that top probably not no anything about her phone keeps ringing it's says baby daddy let me ask Hey sir hang on can you hear me sir this is this is Deputy from the Sheriff's Office can you hear me who who is the girl to you that's on that you're calling is this your girlfriend baby mama okay is the 5-year-old your daughter you guys are still you every it's clear they check are you so you're still you're still together correct all right she was in a crash she drove in a ditch she's injured they're going to airlift her to Lawnwood the 5-year-old child is conscious alert she's out of the vehicle um if you can give me a few minutes I can give you an update on her and if she's going to go to the hospital or not in which hospital so that you can if you're able to if you can meet us at the hospital the only vle I have it's total it's in a ditch it's literally physically in a ditch in water on alha Oso Road it is not drivable okay can I here the vehicle's in the water and she's literally being airlifted so I don't think I'm going be able to get that for you right now but do me a favor I'm going to give you my cell phone number can you text me so I can call you in a few minutes from my cell phone were you able to get a hold of them yeah this is BBE daddy we have their daughter here is is is she going to the hospital she probably should she's got a hurt leg are you able to take her to Lawnwood too or where where is this is their only car where do you live sir you live on OBO in Old Dixie where are you going to take the little girl and I can have somebody transport him hang on what SEC sir right now it's kind of up in the air um it might be oh the Children's Hospital she really doesn't have any any pain per se but the mechanism of injury I didn't see where she was she was already out so the male pulled her out of the vehicle the guy that's over there I haven't been able to talk to him if you want to ask him the male pulled her the kid out first and then the mother I'll come over there in a second so sir can you text my cell phone so I can call you in a few minutes yes sir the little girl they're going to assess her to be sure there's no inter internal injury she literally drove like literally into a ditch there's significant damage hang on one sec okay yeah the baby [Applause] seat Well Sheely on the floor the pass I got down just got yes that is correct thank you are you going to work this yeah yeah okay I got it I was yeah I figured but I should call FHP as soon as I um she's wreaking of alcohol very overwhelming odor the fact the child got injured uh I'm I want to be sure it's done yeah he said the child was on the floor in the passenger seat when he got there yes they're asking us to you good yeah oh I didn't even freaking see that I just that giant um they're asking us to try to get a hold of Dad yeah I just talk to Dad this is Dad's car the only car okay he lefts up Oslo the tee that he's trying to figure out where they're going to take the child first before we figure out if we're going to transport D or not okay so already working on that on that yeah well he said he's trying to figure out whether he's the kids going to go to Children Hospital or a local hospital so could be Orlando it could be Lawnwood so uh she is definitely wreaking of alcohol the driver yeah she was overwhelming odor she was so she was uh punching at the Medics yeah so as soon as I'm done with the crash investigation where's she going the drivers they're going to airlift her I believe to Lawnwood okay um but I'm going to pursue a potential du investigation after I finish the crash what do you need for me I got all their info I just you their info then and then they're good to go got it all right man thank you once we get her out of uh yeah your guys car you guys are good to go I appreciate it if you get a phone call from a random number it's probably us just answer it for us sure just maybe some followup questions as to what you saw yeah there waai everybody leav we once they're out of the way yeah if you just give me a minute I'll get this one out and then you guys can bug out thank you so they will take a pediatric traa okay pediatric traa well they're going to evaluate or now to find out um I'm not sure about that all and since they don't have another vehicle I don't want to separate mom and kid yes per se but if we need to go get Dad maybe one of you guys can facilitate that I don't know if that's a you want us to bring him to the scene not not here but whatever hospital we end up taking yeah the local hospital guess if it's a local hospital or even Lawnwood or wherever it's local OB be your dad get there absolutely all right but just let me know let me know about the airlift for the child or not so they're assessing right now to see if she be pediatric airlifted okay um if they do she's probably going to go to Orlando or West Palm uh he'd probably be able to give you all me okay we responded here reference a crash in the ditch uh we get here there was a 5-year-old involved in the crash uh upon speaking to some witnesses we find out that ultimately the driver was driving too fast didn't have enough time to stop at the stop sign and ended up in the ditch uh Deputy Ru is was first Deputy on scene uh was able to get the 5-year-old out of the car and uh while speaking to the driver could smell an overwhelming odor of alcohol coming off her breath so both the driver and her daughter are going to uh hospitals right now they're being assessed by medical staff to see what hospital that's going to be and uh and then Deputy Ru is going to follow up with the DUI investigation on the driver so thankfully the 5-year-old's okay Mom appears to be okay and uh they're on their way to the hospital and then uh like I said Deputy Ru be following up up with the DUI investigation how was the 5-year-old talking the 5-year-old is obviously a little bit upset uh her only concern was the fact that she didn't want to get a shot so we're trying to make sure that happens and uh get her leg looked at she's complaining of leg pain be the right guy at the right time right spot at the right time but at this point I believe he has all your information you folks are good to go okay appreciate how do I how do I get say again how do I get to see your it's live right now it's yeah it's live if it airs it's live right now so you can see rewatch on all right yeah thanks all right man have a good night interview you uh the 5-year-old's blown out to Orlando and uh the mom's blown out to lawn so I gota gol and so uh what do you want to do about that um I'll make that I mean with the Orlando thing I'm assuming he's going to want to go to the kid not to the mom yeah uh let me make some calls up yeah yep let the dad know it's going to be Auto Palmer Auto Palmer right is where the kids going okay um now this's a precautionary trauma she's got a broken fever okay but it doesn't appear to be like critical it's not critical okay thank you sir uh broken femur that's why they're flly out to arold Palmer the 5-year-old it's a broken femur they said it it's not life-threatening but it's a significant injury for a 5-year-old okay so and then Mom still Flo along with okay so as you heard of Deputy Ru is uh the 5-year-old is being flown out to Arnold Palmer in Orlando here in Florida for a broken femur which is a pretty bad injury for a 5-year-old so we're going to be following up and Deputy ruse is going to be doing his investigation from here so so it's still an active scene they will be going to Arnold Palmer okay so and you're going to go see the dad right uh yeah well I'm going to go to both hospitals and I'll talk to Dad to you I'll take care let D that both were transported to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce a young girl required surgery for a fractured left femur necessitating the insertion of nails bolts and a steel plate to mend the injury upon her release from the hospital the suspect was arrested and charged with DUI causing serious bodily injury and DUI with a person under 18 in the vehicle she was released from the Indian River County Jail on a $55,000 Bond and ordered to appear later in court for arraignment this incident is a dark reminder of The Perils of impaired driving especially when young lives are at stake authorities continue to stress the importance of sober driving and proper child safety restraints in order to prevent such a tragedy
