property it could have been as simple as getting the man off of the property issuing a ticket and moving on with the day like any other but things wouldn't be that easy and one bad decision changed the officer that this time she wouldn't be issuing a ticket but instead had decided to take him to jail the man was visibly confused what were the charges against him if he hadn't committed a crime AR always for the same type of situation and she seemed frustrated that he didn't want to learn or follow the rules a transport van arrived on scene and AR Roberto was handcuffed and chained by another officer nothing about what was happening felt normal and the consequences of the informal arrest would soon unfold a year in jail would probably settle it what's that a year in jail might s yeah maybe would prove to be a life-changing factor for Sanchez due to the officer's reckless driving AR Roberto Alejandro Sanchez mayen was urgently taken to the hospital where doctors discovered cervical spine injuries that left him paralyzed due to the severity of the injuries he had both legs amputated above the knee but how did this happen happened the officer driving the vehicle had been speeding recklessly and when they made a sudden stop AR Roberto Fell From the Bench and struck his head against the metal partion in March of 2024 he filed a lawsuit against officer Sarah Gattis who had arrested him and Michael ther who had been driving the transport van according to the lawsuit Sanchez was illegally detained and taken into custody without a warrant the St Petersburg Police Department denies the allegations and the legal proceedings have begun however as of now the status of the trial remains unknown
