That's my brother. Hey, how you doing? Hey, I'm off. You open your door while you're driving. What are you doing? Thursday, February 6th, 2025, Leburg, Florida. While on patrol, two officers observe a vehicle heading westbound on John Avenue approaching Tallaladega Street. The driver had apparently swung open the driver's side door and leaned out while the car was still moving and then made a turn without even using his turn signal. The officers needed to pull him over and issue a citation because his actions were reckless and dangerous. What they didn't expect was what would happen next. I'm Tyler and this is your daily dose of crime. Hey, how you doing? Hey, I'm off. You open your door while you're driving, huh? You open the door while you were driving. What are you reaching for? What are you doing? Put your hands on the steering wheel. Put your hands on the steering wheel. What are you doing? Put your hands on the steering wheel. Keep it there. Give me back 35. Give us traffic. We're fighting. Back 35. We're fighting. Give us traffic. As soon as one of the officers began questioning the driver, he avoided answering and started patting down his pockets, ignoring commands. The moment he seemed to realize something, he quickly pushed the door open and attempted to flee. He was clearly hiding something, but the question was, what exactly was it? I'm coming. Quit hitting her. I got the wall. Stop. Stop. Hey. get back. My dog's going to break you. Hey, stop. Hey, what you want to do, bro? Stop. Stop. What you want to do, bro? Stop. Quit. You ain't going nowhere. You ain't going nowhere. Quit. Hey, bro. Back the hell up. All right, flip him. I need him on the stomach. Quit reaching. No, I need him on the stomach. Flip his legs. I'm rolling him on the stomach. Hand behind your back now. Hand behind your back. Do it now. Hand on my back. Holy [ __ ] your hand loose. Should have reached or something. Let go. Good. Back up. Okay, I got it. I can't breathe. Yes, you can. Yes, you can. I can't breathe. Yes, you can. I can't. After several attempts and a serious struggle, officers were able to subdue the man and get him into handcuffs. He had tried to run twice and was using every ounce of strength to break free. Whatever he was hiding, it had to be serious. Now the authorities needed to find out exactly what it was. I promise. I promise. I can't breathe. [Music] One million. Yeah, I know. I don't got nothing. Oh, you're going to jail. So we don't find it, bro. All done. about what you say. I ain't got nothing. All done, bud. Hey, bro. Hey. Hey. Call Karine and tell him to come. Call Had brother Karine. Call my brother. Hey, call my brother to Somebody's going to jail. Yeah, we got it. Go ahead. Put him up. Alpha five. We have him. 10:15. Got a small crowd loading up. He was shoving 31 down his pants while he was fighting us. Bro, he's lucky I couldn't get to that door popper. here. Check it. Turn around. Turn around. Yeah, cuz he wasn't fighting me and all that, right? We weren't fighting with a girl. The man identified as Cornelius Darnell Salters began shouting that he didn't have anything on him. His behavior told a different story. A quick search turned up a small bag containing white powder and three pills. Police suspected that wasn't the only thing Salters was trying to hide. A canine unit was then brought in to make sure nothing else was missed. Salters was clearly concealing more than just a small bag of cocaine. I got you. Dylan, Dylan, taxi, we're good on scene. I need you just up near Harlem area. Just make sure we don't have much more walking up on us. Dylan back seat back. Let's go. I got him. I don't see anything. Uh do a do I want a thorough check of him cuz he had to shove. He was shoving it right in front of us and then tried running. Y'all aren't hurt or anything? No, just just just me. I just really It was mostly just maintain control. I was trying to wait till somebody else got here. She was trying to hit my door pop, but I don't think it reached and stay back on you all over again. Turn away from y'all. Hey, J. No, we're not talking. Pony, my bad man, my brother. Stop talking. Jesus. Inside the vehicle, stuffed in a black bag amongst clothing, officers discovered items that completely exposed Salters and his real intentions. 14 oxycodone pills, a digital scale with white residue, and a box filled with the same type of clear plastic baggies used to package drugs were found. Based on the variety and quantity of narcotics along with the packaging materials, it was clear that Salters intended to distribute the drugs. Now the question was, what would law enforcement do next? Calling my brother, the bond man. Call him now. You got a number? Stop shouting at people. You already run your driver. He's driving. I know. You already run him? No, not yet. We haven't got anything on him. What's your name? Lost manel. What? Cornelius. Carelius. Salters. Have a seat. Sit down. Sit down. Sir, you said you're the owner of the car. That's my brother. Your brother? Okay. Your brother needs to be here or it's getting towed. What you mean? Is you speak English, right? The car gets towed or your brother who owns the car comes. Why? Because it's not if it's not your car, I can't give it to you. So how can you car man? That's one of those things. She's the over sale and everything. Yeah, I understand. Yeah. So y'all got a car. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. That tends to be what happens when you get arrested. Oh yeah, he was running around with the open door. Come on, man. Uh, you get in the trunk. looking back at him. How where Well, it's probably gone now. It's probably gone now, man. So, the PC was he was driving around. He He started opening his door when we got behind him. Start thinking back he was probably dumping some of it on the ground back there. But we got a we got a large portion now. So you got dope on them. Yeah. And right where Nick alerted, we found some more in a box. Salters asked neighbors to call his brother to come retrieve the vehicle. And when the brother showed up, it turned out he wasn't the registered owner with no rightful claim the vehicle had to be towed once was transported to the county jail. Even so, officers had a lingering feeling that something was missing, and it felt like someone else was involved. They hoped that reviewing the details may lead to other suspects, but if Salters had been careful with his dealing, nothing would guarantee they'd get a break. And then, do you know where he was opening the door at? Uh, back here around the curve right from the L. I'm sure he was notifying somebody. Oh, yeah. That's why I said at this time frame, it's gone. Yeah, cuz we're towing it. The owner is incarcerated. So, I'll uh Oh, I thought he said he was the owner. No, his brother is the owner. Um, if you will get with him with where they thought he was dumping it out the door. Okay. If you'll check that spot, I'll Yeah. So, just let him know. So, let me grab your paper. Yeah, we'll get that rolling. Yeah, we're good to go. Uh, without. Yeah, without. No, I don't think you got that. I would have popped the door. That's what I was waiting on is an elbow to the face. I don't think we have that. I think it's resisting without. We can rewatch. I mean, am I cut? Yeah, you got you and watch video. I think it might be enough. There might be. It's hard for me to say. I was on top of him the whole time just trying to keep custody of his head and neck. Yeah, he was reaching around the minute he was going to touch one of our guns. my I was trying to get ready to pop my door. The issue is it was on that side and we were over there. For sure. Yeah. Yeah, for sure. Well, I'll read the statute. We might actually have resisting with I just don't think we have patent. Cornelius Darnell Salters, age 47, was arrested and charged with resisting arrest, possession or use of paraphernalia, possession of methine, cocaine, m oxy and with the intent to sell. He was transported to the Lake County Jail and later released after posting a $36,000 bond.
